A dragon, and a phalanx of skeleton soldiers round the corner ahead of you.

"Saif, we should ru-"

You charge. Blood and mana coursing through your veins and pathways. Your body feels light as a feather, yet your mind weighs heavy.

The skeletons form a line, and attempt to bar your way with their shields as the dragon breathes in. You swipe your hand across the Archive and grab a grenade, then you chuck it into the dragon's gaping maw. In the same movement, you put all of your weight into your shoulder and slam through the skeletal barricade.

There are more skeletons around you, so you enter fast-time and pick your targets. The skeletons each seem to have a core, so you aim for that. Within seconds, you've taken apart several.

A blast of lightning from Safi cuts a swath in their ranks, and a burst of wind from Abigail (probably) knocks them away.

"Damn it Saif! We need to g-"

The sound of Safi's voice is drowned out by further bellows.

The fight continues as more creatures file in. You feel more than see the invisible strings pulling them to you.

Through the hole, there are more monsters. Desperate, Safi blasts another hole. More monsters.

You close in until your backs are to each other.

"Well, whatever barrier you have, put it up within the next five seconds" You say, swiping your hand across the Archive and grabbing the biggest, baddest bomb in there.

It's an actual oversized bomb, as in the kind that is normally dropped from a plane. It's big, it's heavy as all fucking hell, and it's on a five second timer.

You strengthen your arms and heave, throwing it up into the air as far as you can. Then Safi grabs both you and Abigail and pulls you under her. You feel yourself entering slow-time involuntarily.

You didn't know that you could pull another person into altered-time. You're going to have to try that.

Outside your little bubble of slow-time, the bomb goes off. Even in your slowed state, you feel the shockwave. As soon as it's done, Safi lets go of the two of you. You stand and admire the wreckage.

The walls of the labyrinth are completely destroyed in a decent radius around you, and there's no sign of the monsters.

"I don't even want to know where you got that" Abigail says.
"Neither do I" You reply. "Now let's go, we still need to find-

"The Traveller has been slain" The female voice calls once more.

The three of you exchange looks.
"Mila... no..." Abigail says.
"Shit..." Safi says. "We still need to move! There's no telling when those monsters are coming back, and I doubt you have another one of those!"
"Yeah, let's get going" You say, grabbing Abigail's hand as you make a break for it.

You check your watch, and there's only 10 minutes left in this arena. So if they're going to do that, then it'll be soon.

Your ear is drawn to the sound of giggling coming from further up the corridor.

"Ah! You brought the vermin to me to save me the trouble of having to hunt for her!" Stonehand says. "How considerate is he?"
"I don't think he meant to bring her to us, but in the end she is here" The Butcher replies.

You set Abigail down on the ground.

"So, did you bring her to me?" Stonehand asks.

Stonehand whips the golem at Abigail, but it meets your strengthened fist along the way.

"Don't tell me you intend to protect that vermin" Stonehand says.
"Okay, I won't" You say, taking up your stance.

She breaks into a sprint and pulls her stone hand back. You strengthen an arm to guard, and deflect the punch. It still hurts, even when you've pumped your arm full of mana.

While she's regaining control of her momentum, you strike her the side of her rib cage under her stone arm. It's hard as fucking rock, but your arm is still strengthened. Stonehand seems to feel it this time, and she takes a step away from you.

"My, my. You've made some gains..." She says.

You keep your stance, staying ready for her as you keep another eye on the Butcher.

Stonehand rushes you again, and you enter slow-time for the initial guard this time. Back to real-time, you strengthen to counter.

You go back and forth with Stonehand like this for several exchanges, until the Butcher sees an opening to strike.

And she's blown away by Safi.

"Forgetting someone?" Safi asks. You can feel her powering up again.

You keep Stonehand locked down, while Safi and Abigail keep the Butcher off your back.

The Butcher is slippery, and neither can seem to get a bead on her. Meanwhile, Stonehand's defense has become rock solid. Maybe she's being more careful now that you've managed to actually hurt her...

You keep her engaged at as close a distance as you can manage. No matter how good of a fighter she might be, her stone arm becomes a liability when the fight becomes less about strength and more about maneuvering.

So you quickly gain the upper hand, and start working towards creating a second opening...

Eventually, you knock her stone hand to the floor, and slam your fist into her face. You can feel her nose crack and buckle against your knuckles, and she stumbles back.

"Brilliant!" Stonehand declares, as blood quickly starts dripping off of her chin underneath her mask, and onto the floor and her chest. "Do you have any idea how long it's been since I've bled like this?"

"Uhhh..." You say.
"It was Sunday, when I first met you!" She says. "Which is why no one else can have you! I'm going to beat you into the ground and make you mine!"

Stonehand talks with a shaky voice, and hunches over. Seeing your chance to possibly finish her, you move in.

But she snatches you up, wrapping you in a painfully tight embrace so she can kiss you. She jams her tongue into your mouth, and you can taste both her blood and her saliva. After a moment, she breaks the kiss and breathes a long, shaky moan into your ear...

And then you're back in the warehouse.

Kyla and Jessica are both asleep at the table, an empty bottle of whiskey and two glasses sitting between them.

Your hands start shaking again. You pull out your phone and try to navigate to Yui's number.

You drop the phone, and pick it back up. The screen is cracked, but it still works. You have some trouble finding Yui's number with your fingers shaking, but you get it.

It rings.

"Please pick up please pick up please pick up please pick up" You say. "Guys! I need you awake!"

Jessica and Kyla stir at your shouting. "Saif, what's wrong?" Kyla asks.

A voice comes over your phone. "Moshi moshi! Yui desu~"

"Yui! Thank god, I-"
"I didn't recognize this number, so i didn't answer. Have a nice day~" *beeeeep*

No... no! Nonononononononononononono

You hit redial, and it rings again.

"Saif, you look pale as hell! What's going on?" Jessica asks.
You hold up a hand to tell her to give you a second.

"Pleeease pick up" you say. "Please..."

"Moshi moshi! Yui desu~ I didn't recognize this number, so I didn't answer. Have a nice day~" *beeeep*

"Son of a BITCH" You shout, stopping just short of whipping your phone at the ground.

Your eyes tear up, and Kyla hugs you.

Smiley, don't cave into the people that say your quests are two dark or depressing. It actually makes your quests stand out from the rest of the sugary fluff quests you find on the board. It is quite refreshing and interesting, regardless of how many times it punches me in the stomach.

You take a deep breath, and push Kyla away to give you some space. Then you call Boss.

He answers almost immediately.

"You have 5 seconds to give me a DAMN GOOD reason why Yui was involved in this lunar bullshit!" You shout.
"Was her choice, not mine" Boss says. "When Guardian came to her, she was-"

"The Guardian?" You ask. "Hang on."

You hang up the phone, and turn to Kyla.

"Alright. Now you have 5 seconds to give me a DAMN GOOD reason as to why you involved Yui in this Lunar bullshit!" You say.
"She was qualified. Her fire magic was second to none, and she was a part of my church" Kyla says. "And I only offered, it was her choice to accept"

"Yeah, because so many people are just linin' up to refuse an offer to serve their god!" You yell. "This is such BULLSHIT"

"Saif, it'll be okay" Jessica says.
"I'm sure it will" You say, laughing as you catch your breath. "That isn't my problem"
"So what is?" Jessica asks.

"My problem is that now... Yui won't be with me to see it..."

You fall to your knees.

Jess was just the closest and most obvious, and I'll admit to pushing that option a bit. But just about all of the mages, with the exclusion of the ones who already had apprentices, could have been your teacher

There was actually an untravelled, and very different path where you abandon Kyla and the Traitor teaches you magic and other stuff. It would have required you to make some very specific choices that I only would have given you if your attitude towards Kyla/the Blood Moon was different
