Much later that evening you and Kaelyn slowly walk down a sandy hill onto a wide stretch of beach, the sea is blue and clean and the air clear and crisp, so very different to the processed air in the hive, or the dust-choked atmosphere you got used to.

“The trick you see” says Kaelyn “is to blend in, to appear to be just a part of the dream. Now, we can do what we want, as long as we stay in-character, just two girls at the beach” overhead there are three hot suns. You are not in a dream about Apollyon.

All along the beach are families enjoying the sun, some playing in the water, and in a private enclave, with shade and people bringing them cold drinks...are the Crimsonthorne family.

“So what, Jades dreaming about a day at the beach?” You say, you're wearing a rather revealing two-piece bikini, whilst Kaelyn wears a matching one.

“Hmmm” Kaelyn looks around “this....this feels more like a memory to me.”

You both wander slowly towards the Crimsonthornes, trying not to stare too much. They look...normal. A half-dozen adults, some children, all in the shade of a huge canvas shade.

If a fae invaded Jades deam then there is nothing we can do about it. And chances are pretty good Shee can easily take him too unless its on the level of the Desert, in which case finding out about it is valuable on its own and Kae would never ever be able to detect it anyway.

You motion Kaelyn to follow you, and the two of you head down the rocky hill towards the water. There's nothing in there that can threaten you, and once in the water, you have a lot of nasty things you can do. The children ignore you and the swimmer reaches the boat and climbs in.

Just as you're at the waters edge you hear a scream, quickly cut off. You and Kaelyn both duck behind a handy rock and watch as the five children in the boat, including what is definitely a young Jade, hold the sixth child down and start feeding from her, biting and tearing in a frenzy.

You watch in disgust as the sea washes around your ankles.

“What the...?” says Kaelyn. This is like no vampire feeding you've seen, they are tearing bloody mouthfuls out of the girls flesh, savaging her like crazed animals. One keeps his grip on her throat, preventing her from crying out.

In minutes it is done, the sixth child is dead, and with gore-drenched mouth the other five are laughing and mocking their victim, parodying her struggles, to much amusement.

You hear the sound of a throat being cleared and an old vampire with white hair and heavily wrinkled skin comes wandering around the shore. He's wearing loose baggy clothing of a material unfamiliar to you.

“Well done” he congratulates the five young vampire “now, throw it in the water, wash yourselves clean and I'll have some sea predator dispose of the remains.”

“Yes uncle Tasich” says Jade, and directs the others, who cast the still body of the girl into the water.

“Wait a while before returning” says the old vampire “and never forget how weak your cousin was, she deserved to die.”

After spending some time with child-Jade, tormenting various small life forms, scaring her siblings and cousins, and tricking various strangers for her amusement, you learn some curious things.

He's also told them to keep it a secret from the rest of the family, which according to Jade, they have.

“Your defences have got her occupied for now” says Kaelyn, looking impressed “but it won't be long before she thinks to call her family for help, whatever you want to do, do it fast.”

You ponder that, As Jade struggles in the ocean. You could just kill her, preferably painfully.

You could also turn her into a slave of sorts, she is a vampire and could be useful to you. Leaving her with her family could be quite a risk, but you could also just keep her close to you, to use as needed.

You could read her family secrets from her mind and let her live, show her that you don't consider her enough of a threat to be worth killing. Your hands clench into fists, no, Ash deserves vengeance.

You float there, contemplating the possibilities, eventually Kaelyn snaps you out of it “Shee, what are you going to do with her?”

You rise up until you are standing on the surface of the water next to Kaelyn “she likes messing with peoples minds” you say “lets see how she likes being on the receiving end of her own methods.”

As Jade battles the beasts of your dream realm, you reach out with your telepathic powers, infused with your ability to corrupt and warp those around you into what you need them to be. By the time she realises what you're doing, its too late. Oh she fights back, she fights back with all her own considerable mental powers, trying to crush your own thoughts, terrify you, distract you, showing you horrifying imagery of those you care about suffering and dying.

But its all for naught. Eventually Jade stops fighting back, and bobbing to the surface at your feet she clutches at your ankles “forgive me!” she begs “I don't know what came over me, I never meant to cause offence, please, don't be angry!” She gazes up at you fearfully, worshipfully.

Kaelyn gives you a rather disapproving glare and shakes her head sadly.

With Jade pacified, you feel the power of Baalzamon surging within you, you shape this into the ability to hide others motives and thoughts, a useful quality for any spy. You do feel no small amount of regret that you couldn't have some sort of draconic form though, that would have been fun.

As Jade begs to be allowed to make it up to you somehow, you consider your options. You could just leave her where she is, a spy in the Crimsonthorne house, protected by your new power. You could order her to actively seek out someone else to watch, or order her to your side to keep an eye on her, and to learn all of her secrets.
