After everything you accomplished, in the end it somehow still came to this.

The cold metal of the prisoner transport's walls greet you with a pristine and sterile silence. Clean isn't the right word for this place though, it would leave a bad taste in your mouth to call this vehicle 'clean'. You look down at your hands and legs, heavy metal rings tightly bound to your wrists and ankles stand as areminder of your status as a prisoner. Emotion seizes you, anger, sadness, despair, all of it comes rushing in and yet you find yourself unable to do anything but sit numbly in one corner of the containment unit. You see your own warped reflection in the polished metal of the cell, you once proud and renown features turned wild and haggard your hair and beard now well grown from months of processing and trials and rights and procedures. You were one of the greatest. Now you've been reduced to this. Yet despite it all you still feel it deep inside of you, a heart burning for freedom. Through the door near the front of your containment unit you hear muted chatter of the two guards who are escorting you to your final destination.

"So, who is this guy anyway? They've all but rolled out the red carpet for this guy from what I've heard. Didn't look like much to me."

One of the guardsman says. His accent when he speak tells you he's human like yourself; your species never took well the Standard tongue.

"No idea. Let's take a look at his file."

The other says. You can't quite tell his species but he's clearly not human, way too fluent for that.

"Holy shit... that's Liam King."

The second voice says.

A violent fit of coughing erupts from the guards counter part as he breaths in surprise.

"W-wait. THE Liam King? 'King' Liam? The fucking pirate?"

He responds.

>What do you do?

>Stay silent
>Slam your fist against the door, give them a good scare.

"It's 'Captain' Liam King, thanks."

You say, with heavy emphasis on the Captain. Based on the sudden intakes of breath you hear it's safe to assume them didn't think you were listening to them.

"S-Silence prisoner! We're leaving you unrestrained for now but we won't hesitate to keep you bound if you don't stay nice and quiet."

The human guard says, scrambling for his words. Your mind turns to the back wall of the transport. The wall is heavily magnetized and with the flip of a switch the guards can activate it, pulling at the rings on your wrists and feet effectively restraining you and leaving you pinned against the wall for the remainder of your stay. Nasty but effective.

You think for a moment, the two seem to be whispering to themselves to avoid you picking up on their discussion.

>What do you do?

>Remain silent
>Focus and try to pick up on what they are saying.
>"What am I going to do? Talk you into setting me free? Promise you gold, jewels, women, power, your name known by everyone in the sector? Is that what you think I'll do?"

You say, a shadow of a smirk gracing your lips. You hear a bit of an argument between the two of them before one of them speaks.

"Like... what?"

He asks.

"Well, there was a time I had... 'relations' with a beautiful PGF Officer after we'd just finished having a fire fight. Our relationship was... complicated to say the least. Oh, or the time my crewmate Yark won fifteen million creds then ended up blowing it all in one night in what was possibly the stupidest bet in the recorded history of the galaxy. There was also the time I stole the Elder Mind of Kungvar's ship and took it for a joy ride."

You say recalling some of your many adventures in your life.

"How about the story of how you got caught?"

The non human guard asks, a gurgling laugh ringing out from within the cockpit.

>What do you say?

>Mutiny - My right hand thought he'd make a better Captain. Apparently enough of the crew agreed with him, I was betrayed and abandoned by my crew.

>Rival Pirate - A rival Pirate Lord who I've been at war with for years finally decided that it was time to end it. Unfortunately he won.

> Lost Love - I made the mistake of falling in love. The how's and why's aren't important, but they cost me everything, and I payed the price like a fool.

>I Fought the Law and the Law Won - The PGF set the bait. Some part of me knew it was too good to be true but I'm nothing if not a dare-devil. Got into a dog fight with a PGF Emperor-class ship. Needless to say I lost.

"I fought the law, and the law won. The PGF set the bait. Some part of me knew it was too good to be true but I'm nothing if not a dare-devil. Got into a dog fight with a PGF Emperor-class ship. Needless to say I lost."

You say, your voice a bit hollow as you remember that day. You watched most of your crew die that day... Yark, Melanie, Jormir, Nissa... most of them gone. The rest are likely being crated and shipped off like you, though knowing the PGF as well as you do they'll be nowhere near you, probably if different sectors all together.

Suddenly the cabin shakes with turbulence as you pass over a rough patch of air and you're jostled. The two guards quickly start cursing and muttering to one another before correcting the flight of the ship. You try to collect yourself and see that a corner of a nearby panel in the ship's walls has come a bit loose. Not much, but it's something you might be able to use. As you begin to cross over to it the non-human voice pipes up.

"So how does a guy become a Pirate Lord anyway? You look like just a man to me, but the stories I've heard about you? They make you look like something else."

You figure you should keep them talking so they stay distracted.

>What do you say?

>Might Makes Right - You can really get shit done when you can kill your average sapient creature in a single blow. Makes sure people listen to what you have to say, and once you've established you're the hardest hitting thing this side of the planet nobody questions you.

>Eyes Everywhere - You have to have good senses. It's a lot harder for the dealer across the table to ambush you if you know where his gun is, which of his men is armed, and what they're armed with.

>Tough as Nails - Simple, make it so nobody can fucking kill you. I've been in more fights, escapes, suicide missions, and hopeless ventures then the average man sees on the news before he dies in the course of a few years, and I'm still kicking.

>Silver Tongue - It's all about getting people to like you, to want to listen to you. That joke about making you want to let me free by offering you riches and all that? Might not have been a joke son.

>Brains of the Outfit - Brains is all you need. I know more languages then you've ever heard of and the cultures behind them, intricacies of the political landscape of this entire sector, and how this ship runs. Everything else is cake.

>Quick Hands - I've got the fastest hands in the galaxy, that's how. I could steal your watch, grope your woman, and kill your best friend with a single shot all in the time it takes you to scratch your ass.

>Devil's Luck - I'm just too fucking lucky for everyone else's own good.

"I'm just too fucking lucky for everyone else's own good."

You say with a laugh as you approach the ever so slightly ajar panel.

"Well you can't be too lucky considering you're back there now can you?"

The human guard replies with a laugh oh his own.

The delicious irony of the situation as he says that is not lost upon you as you approach the now slightly loosened panel. Now the question is how to get it open. You realize that trying to get it open one way or another and failing will likely result in a lot of noise that will alert the guards to what you're doing. You take a moment to consider your options.

>What do you do?

that's the thing, it's a rehash of a previously made quest. Either you use the title but take it on a completely different spin that makes it stand out from it's predecessor (i.e. Hollow Quest and Hollow Quest:Redux) or make something completely original with a good enticing style.

Now I am kinda looking forward to a scene where Xanth gets captured by Jedi and they transport him somewhere to be interrogated. During the travels they attempt to convert him and he is like, nah, I like fun. Then when they get to the interrogation site he breaks free since the plan all along was to assassinate the interrogation Jedi.

You pull ever so gently at the latch and it swings open silently. You're tempted to laugh but considering it could make this good fortune go to waste you manage to contain yourself. Some of the circuitry of the ship is laid bare before you, but it will take some time for you to get your bearings with all these damned wires.

"So we know the how's, but not the why's. What made you become a pirate? Where did the mighty Liam King start out?"

One of the guards asks you. You decide that you use the time you take answering his question to inspect the innards of the panel.

You say with a chuckle, though a pang of sadness fills you upon remembering those days.

The human guard asks.

"The one and the same. I was one of three survivors in my squad. You could say that was the day I found out I was blessed. I don't think I could properly articulate the amount of times dumb luck has saved my hide on that hellscape."

While this model of ship is certainly newer then what you're familiar with, it follows the same basic design principles of the old PGF troop transports that you serviced once upon a time in your days as a soldier. You find a few wires which give you a few different ways to handle your current situation. You know currently from the turbulence that you're in the atmosphere of a planet, though which one is beyond you.

You could cut a few of the power supply lines to the engine, which wouldn't be enough to drop you out of the sky, but would force the guards to stop and make an emergency landing, however that begs the question of what you plan to do once they land.

You could cut ALL of the power supply lines to the engine, which would send you hurtling to the ground in a giant metal death trap, however the guards would likely die or be rendered unconscious on the trip down. Unfortunately so could you.

You could cut the lines to the door at the back of the transport, which would cause the door to open as an emergency precaution so as not to seal anybody in the transport without being able to escape, however depending on your altitude it could be suicide to jump out of a moving prisoner transport like that. The guards would also immediately be aware of your escape and likely radio in your approximate location.

"Hey you two remember when I told you how lucky I was?"

You ask with a smirk.

"Yea, sure. Why you gotta story about it?"

The non-human asks you.

"I guess you could say I'm about to. Godspeed mate."

You reach your hand in, grab all the wires which direct power to the engine as well as those directed toward the rear loading door and rip them out. The effects are immediate as alarms ring through the cockpit and the transport begins to feel the effects of gravity upon it. Cruel mistress she is. Loud cries and shouts can be heard from the cockpit as the rear loading door opens to reveal the world around you. Desert. Of course it's a fucking desert. You brace for impact.

The transport careens planet ward with a steadily increasing slope, in an attempt to duck and roll out of the cabin if necessary you make a dash up to where the open hatch is and hang into the interior of the cabin as best you can. The speed with which you are descending to the ground becomes even more apparent as you grip onto the frame of the opening and gaze out to get a better look into the world below. You catch a glimpse of civilization speeding past you as you approach the ground. You wait as long as you dare, trying to get as close as possible to the ground then you hurl yourself from the open exit and curl into a ball, relaxing your body as much as you are able and praying to any deity, philosophy or cosmic horror that will listen to your pleas.

You hit the dune. Hard. Your back arches in pain as you collide and the world explodes into bright white as the sense is momentarily knocked out of you. But no matter how hard you may have hit the ground the transport definitely hit harder. The sound of metal ripping apart and crashing into the ground sounds out with a cacophonous ringing. You stand slowly and take a good look at your handiwork, wincing heavily. The ship crashed around half a mile from you and while you never got a proper glimpse at it before you can tell it's seen better days, however it's not in as bad of shape as it could be.

You look to the sky it greets you with a drab ruddy orange hue. You aren't sure how long days are on this planet, it seems this one has just begun. You take a moment to determine your next course of action.

>What do you do?

It takes some time but you manage to make your way over dunes and through sand to the wreckage of the transport. You look down on the ship, sweating and breathing a bit heavily before walking toward it with as much swagger as a tired and beaten prisoner can. It doesn't take much inspection to determine that the cockpit received the brunt of the damage, with one door violently ripped from the frame and the majority of the cabin having been caved in. Upon closer inspection the entire left hand interior of the cockpit is completely crushed, the non human guard having been entirely mangled by the crash and likely killed on impact. From what you can tell of the bits of him that are whole he was likely a Qun'kai, large reptilian aliens which hold a small Empire near human space, which means you're at least still in the Taxrian Sector, the sector that was your dominion as Pirate Lord.

You pull the human guard from the wreckage and throw him to the ground with a dull thunk. After a bit of rummaging through his belongings you discover he has: the key to unlock your bindings, a standard issue PGF X547 Laser Pistol, the clothes off his back, and a candy bar. You quickly undo your bindings and take the pistol and the candy bar. However you are presented with a dilemma as you steal all his stuff. He's still breathing.

Note: This post introduces two new mechanics. Reputation and Infamy. Reputation is a representation of how the galaxy at large views you, as either a rogue freedom fighter or a tyrannical crime lord. It is not necessarily a representation of your intention so much as your actions will be interpreted. Positive Reputation regards you in a kinder light, while negative paints you as a villain. Both have their pros and cons. Positive might make potential enemies sympathize with you and your goals, while negative may make dangerous criminals want to make lucrative deals with you. Infamy represents how aware the galaxy if of your existence. Since as far as the galaxy is concerned you are locked up, you will start at 0, however particularly audacious or visible acts of yours will bring you further into the lime light of the galaxy, which can make life harder or easier for you depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Keep these in mind as you make your decisions. Also note that sometime your actions may affect these stats in ways that are not immediately apparent and as such will not be revealed to you.

An infamous Pirate Lord escaped his transport and left a guard alive, but the extra +5 comes from the fact that you also left him naked. Which 1. Is hilarious, and will easily spread more. 2. Means they will be on the look out for individuals dressed in strange PGF Uniforms.

You disrobe the man, and put on his guard uniform, and leave him your prisoner's jumper, and holster your newly acquired laser pistol. You give him one more good once over before to make sure you didn't miss any goodies before you realize you ought to take his communication bracer just so he can't report you the moment he waked up. You remove it from him and place it one your wrist, which it molds nicely to. An array of buttons display across it, with it's many features. It's been a while since you've seen one of these intact. You'll fiddle with it later and see what it can do. Before you leave you lean in close to the living guardsman's face.

"Just remember mate, today is the day... 'was' the day you almost caught 'Captain' Liam King."

After saying that you give him a ginger pat on the cheek before turning toward the nearest and tallest dune. Upon reaching it's peak you see two hubs of civilization. One is the one you saw on the transport, a large city with what seems to be a large space port. Such a city would be good for finding a quick way off this rock, however it would also be more likely you'd run into a sticky situation if you run into any PGF there who ask the wrong questions.

In the opposite direction you see what can only be described as a shanty town, much smaller and much more run down but likely a good place to lay low and get your bearings straight, maybe find some clothes that won't get you shot by the wrong people. Unfortunately this place likely has it's own fare share of outlaws which brings it's own dangers. Not to mention you're currently wearing 'The Man's' uniform and certain individuals might not take kindly to your presence while you're dressed as you are.

It takes several hours by foot to make your way to the small little hole in the dirt and as you travel the sandy dunes slowly transform into solid dirt predominantly inhabited by shrubs and cacti. The town itself tightly hugs a lone mountain, and even partially exists under a large ridge that juts out from the mountain face providing a natural protection from this world's harsh rays. The town seems to only just be coming to life as you approach it, with several shops freshly opening and townsfolk heading about to their day jobs and living their lives. An air of ambivalence seems to follow you as locals see you approach. Some shy away, while others look relieved to see a figure of authority, but the majority seem to regard you with the cautious curiosity most small communities treat to a stranger.

You decide it would be best to get an idea of what you plan to accomplish before you go chatting up the locals, as a misstep could cause you a lot of trouble.

You imagine it wouldn't be too hard to find a clothing shop around here so you could look like a proper criminal, and if you fiddle with this communicator enough you might even manage to access the kind guards credits account and purchase them like a productive member of society. That being said it might draw the wrong attention if you stride into the shop to buy new clothes, especially if you're 'on duty' as your uniform implies.

Alternatively you could search out the nearest watering hole and try to get an idea of where you are and what kind of people you're dealing with. Maybe you could find a way to make yourself some money and work toward getting off planet and somewhere more familiar.

You decide to make your way toward the nearest place where you could expect to find some clothes that aren't government issued. Your search brings you to a decent looking proprietor of men's clothing. You enter and the door chimes softly.

"I'll be out in a minute, feel free to look around. But if I find anything missing I'll skin ya!"

A gruff masculine voice says from the back of the shop.

You peruse the wares provided and a few outfits catch your eye, three to be particular. The first look like basic civilian clothes, they'll make you just another face in the crowd but they're the most basic and wouldn't have any particular utilitarian uses, just a basic shirt, pants, and boots. Next you find yourself drawn to the gear of a man on the move, traveling gear and the kind most typically worn by your kind of people. Lots of pockets, a heavy coat, and a belt covered in holsters for every such kind of equipment. The clothes of a drifter. It'll serve you well in all different conditions, but these are the clothes of a stranger no mater where you go, and it'll make you easier to spot in a crowd. The third set are of fine clothes, nice fabrics, comfy cushy boots. These clothes make a statement and you'll be easy to pick out in a crowd but being finely dressed can make a man that much more convincing.

You pick out the drifter clothes, they're appropriate if nothing else and it'll make you able to hide your weapon if need be. A large portly man waddles out from behind a door in the back and his eyes widen a bit as he sees you dressed as you are.

"O-oh sir, I'm sorry I didn't mean to... t-that whole skin ya thing that was a joke I didn't mean nothin' by-"

You hold up your hand to cut him off.

"No harm sir, I'm not offended and I'm off duty so you don't have to worry about me. I'm just looking for somethin' a bit more... causal. How much for these?"

You ask as your pile your collection of clothes on the counter before the shopkeep.

"C-certainly sir, just a moment.... that'll all run you around one-hundred and forty three credits sir."

You fiddle a bit with the communicator on your wrist and manage to find the information for the officer's credits account without looking too much like you had no idea what you're doing.

"Oh! I nearly forgot, you wouldn't happen to have any proper hats would you?"

You say, a sly smile gracing your lips.

"I suppose that depends on what you were looking for sir."

tfw your MC was either going to be Space Jack Sparrow or Nico Okarr

"A tricorn my good man, I'm a fan of the classics."

You reply.

"Interesting choice sir, surprisingly I think I have something you might fancy. Just a moment."

The portly shop keep goes into the back and you hear some rustling and grunting which gives way to an exclamation of victory. Once more he waddles from the back of the shop with a decadent tricorn hat in hand, laden with a magnificent collection of feathers.

"She's a beaut ain't she?"

He asks and you smile and nod.

"I'll take it, and it on and charge me, it'll be worth every penny. Oh by the way do you have a changing room?"

The transaction proceeds smoothly, which you thank your stars for because in a more reputable establishment they might have cross referenced your dna or something that could have seen you thrown right back into one of those transports. You exit the establishment feeling like a new man, the guard's uniform carefully tucked away in one of the pouches provided with your new outfit. You run a hand over your ragged facial hair and grimace. You'll deal with that in due time, but for now you're finally back in a good place.

Now that you're free to wander and blend in a little more with the locals it's time to determine a course of action.

With your luck to be truthful you'd have to be stupid not to go to the gambling hall, though if you remember correctly last time you won a man's life savings at one it ended in a fire fight. You consider this for only a moment before shrugging and heading that direction anyway. Some men say you stole the Devil's Dice and that's where you get your luck from, you never denied the story to them, if for no other reason then to watch them squirm.

Whispers follow you as you travel down the main road of the town and for a fraction of a moment you feel a pair of eyes on your back. You turn to look at where the feeling originated but find nothing to greet your gaze. After a moment you shrug and continue on your way unfazed. You can't help but smile, it's been months, maybe even a year since you were captured on that fateful day against the PGF. But none of that matters anymore. The sun hangs high in the sky, the first proper ray of sunshine to hit your face in a long time and you can't help but bask in it.

The King has returned to reclaim his crown.

Thanks for joining me guys! I'll be closing up the thread but I'll be hanging around for a bit if you have any questions. I hope you enjoyed the first part of Steal Back the Stars Quest.

See I didn't think that was a joke because I thought it was pretty obvious I did that intentionally.

>>
>>43667624
Thanks for running, this was fun. Have you run other quests before this one, I get the impression you've already acquired a fairly substantial playerbase.
>>
>>43667645
Nope. His first quest.

Ever,

In history.

Not once has he ever ran, or participated in a quest before.
>>
is it a possibility to have a high infamy and Rep

HUSH YEE ANON! We do not speak of the times before
>>
>>43667636
I'm debating between running both of my quests again next Sunday, but if I don't think I'll have the time for both or if I think this quest will run super late again like it did tonight I might alternate from week to week between this quest and SAQ.

>>43667643
I'll see if I can think up a few of my own and throw them around with you all

>>43667644
Your old spaceship? It was totaled in the fire fight with the PGF Emperor-class Destroyer to your knowledge, however it's possible it's wreckage is still out there and salvageable.

Or it's been taken over by someone else?[/spoiler]

>>43667645
I currently also run SAQ or Sith Apprentice Quest, a fairly popular quest which has earned me a bit of a following as well as a reputation of sorts. If you're interested feel free to check it out the archives here.

The first few threads are a bit of a cluster fuck, be warned.

>>43667660

Yes, though there is a soft Rep cap, you're still a pirate and so you will generally always have a certain level of unpredictability. However depending on the decisions you all make it may be possible to break that cap with a sufficiently good deed.

Brine, baby! Don't delude yourself! That quest will always be a clusterfuck, it's part of its style, its -pizzazz-.

You could just highlight a line of text and hit CTRL+s and it'll spoiler only that line of text.

Kind of useful I guess.
