Even after learning how to balance Nature chakra with your normal chakra, you still have a long way to go. Your transformation lasts only a few minutes once you start moving, and using chakra depletes it even faster. Konohamaru meanwhile, can't even hold Sage Mode for a minute while moving yet.

"You two will be able to extend the time you can spend transformed with training as you improve your use of Nature chakra." Enma explains. "But it will eventually run out, and you will have to take the time to gather the Nature chakra again. Though there is a way to keep the transformation indefinitely. By temporarily fusing with one of us, you can move and fight while the monkey stays still and gathers the Nature chakra. We haven't had anyone able to use Nature chakra before so no one has practiced, but I'm sure you can find one of us that is willing to help. For you anyway, Kon. You Konohamaru, have far more training before we will even bother."

From then on, you continue your training under Enma, but while utilizing Sage Mode as much as possible. The results are immediately evident, as you can keep up with Enma and all the maneuvers that were so hard before are now effortless. Two more weeks pass, and you are able to further hone your skill in your transformed state. Enma confirms however, that it will be far more difficult to utilize Nature chakra once you stop eating the fruit. You will have to keep up your training once you return.

Nearing the end of your time at Kakazan, you think on what Enma said about Fusion.

I've been thinking on why Kon didn't get perfect transformation while Konohamaru did and I came up with the following

Maybe it's because of Kon's incredible chakra control which that only works on chakra that was from his own body to begin with, which is why something alien to him like nature chakra is hard to get grasp on, while on Konohamaru(a more relaxed and not nearly as good with chakra control as Kon is) can use it more efficiently and achieve perfect transformation

While you could try and train up enough to do without it, for now working with a monkey to maintain the transformation is a good idea. You can always keep training on your own.

On the day before your last of training, you head over to Enma as soon as he finishes his time with Konohamaru. As Konohamaru heads off to sleep, you inquire to the monkey king.

"King Enma, can you tell me more about fusion?" you ask. "As I am now, I can't maintain Sage Mode for long, and until I train more I'm going to need the help."

"Ah yes, that you will." Enma replies, stroking his chin. "Well if you were to summon me, I could gather Nature chakra for you as long as I remained in staff form, and you kept hold of me. Likely the same could be said of any monkey skilled enough to gather Nature chakra that could transform into something you could wield or wear. Though they would all have the same drawbacks. The Fusion technique melds two bodies, and you would not have to worry about being separated. Though like I said, none of us here have had any opportunity to practice it. It may take some time to get it right. You have options though, consider them all carefully."

Enma sends you off, and you find Sarujizo lounging on a branch. He creaks an eye open as you approach.

"What's up, boss?" Sarujizo asks, remaining stationary. "You've been keeping to yourself this whole time, must be doing some intense training."

You sit down and meditate to gather Nature chakra, then take on your Sage Mode. Sarujizo transforms into a mask in the shape of a monkey's face, which you then place on your own.

You run around and expend chakra for a several minutes, far longer than you usually can, but you stay transformed.

"How is it, boss?" you hear Sarujizo ask, still on your face. "I need a bit more practice to keep it up forever, but I can last at least twice as long as this. So long as I don't get hit too hard."

This is actually a pretty good idea - we just need unobscured hearing and progressively larger eyeholes by mask layer. It's less perfect as a defense, but it's still a benefit while not causing us problems.

If we make a second mask out of Chakra-conductive metal, we can make a barrier to protect our face.

Even this is pretty good as far as it goes. Most fights you'd hope you could finish this quickly. Any more time you need, you'll have to train for.

"This will work." you tell Sarujizo. "The strain from using jutsu is already a whole lot less in Sage Mode. We'll just have to not get hit in the face."

After a bit more practice, you head off to sleep yourself for your last night on Kakazan. As soon as the sun rises, Enma greets you.

"This is it, Kon!" he calls. "Let's have one last spar to see how far you've come!"

You get down and start meditating, as Konohamaru wakes up and takes a seat to watch the spar. Once you've drawn in enough Nature chakra, you summon Sarujizo and have him transform. You place him on your face, and take a battle stance. Across from you, Enma does the same.

"So you managed something, eh?" Enma muses. "Good. Show me the results of your training!"

You've sparred with Enma for weeks, and you've usually kept it slow, responding to his attacks. Which is why you know this will work.

You lunge forward and unleash a volley of attacks at Enma before he can dodge. Enma gets his arms up to parry, but in Sage Mode your attacks are far too strong. After several hits, Enma ducks and jumps back to safety.

"You're getting trickier." Enma says. "I'd never have expected that attack out of you."

Enma dashes for you and tries an attack of his own, but you are able to dodge them all. You're kept on the move and can't retaliate, but this is leagues above when you first arrived. You can follow all of Enma's attacks when before, they'd seem to come out of nowhere.

You pull a tricky move of your own and jump over his attack, kicking him in the face, a move you've never used before. You then land and start another flurry of blows. This time Enma responds in kind, and you both get pummeled.

After a few minutes, Enma takes a knee and calls the spar. Just in time too, as Sarujizo is spent by this point, and you're short of breath yourself.

"Well done, Kon." Enma congratulates you. "I haven't had a spar get me this tired since Sarutobi in his younger days. Your training under me is as good as complete. Don't let that discourage you, though. I'll train more with you whenever you desire."

As you're at the end of your training, you and Enma sit down for a real breakfast. Several monkeys have gathered a huge assortment of fruits for you, which you gladly sample. All of them taste magnificent, though it may just be in contrast with the fruit you've had to eat this last month.

"Before you leave Kon, I have someone I'd like you to meet." Enma tells you. He leads you and Konohamaru to a temple on the opposite side of the mountain. Next to the temple you see an impressive waterfall. The three of you enter the temple to find a monkey dressed in robes and holding a staff.

"Son Goku? Yes, I know him. He lived in the Water Screen Cave behind the waterfall you saw just outside." Sarutahiko answers. "He mostly kept to himself, though we would occasionally chat. He had quite the high opinion of himself, but in the end he was still captured by those shinobi all those years ago. But enough of that, you didn't answer my question."

Konohamaru apologizes, and tells the old monkey about his aspiration to become Hokage like his grandfather and continue his will, which Sarutahiko praises him for. Once they finish, there is a lull that you may be able to pose further questions in.

You know, it occurs to me that we need to get Sasuke a bird contract like he has in canon. If we can't do the Toad/Snake/Slug trinity of Japanese folklore, our team should do the Dog/Monkey/Bird trinity instead. It's going to be rather gauche to say this, but the fact is that we're not likely to be able to defeat Akatsuki if they come for Taiyaki in full force. We should instead focus on evacuation procedures, getting him away from them as quickly as possible. I can't remember, does Kon know that Minato's former guard learned the Hirashin from him? Because if so, they'd be perfect to watch him. If shit goes down they could have him and his parents on the other side of the continent in moments.

She hands you a package, which you open to find your bracers. You immediately try them on to find that they're a perfect fit. You can know use your release in your entire forearm with little risk to yourself. They look pretty sleek, too.

"They're pretty good, right?" Tenten asks. "Just wait until you use them in battle, I'm sure you'll be stunned. In fact, you may just be inspired to come back and buy some more!"

Tenten laughs as you pack up your purchase.

You help her out with the measurements, then pay and leave. It's still afternoon, but you're a bit tired and you'll need to be as rested as possible for tomorrow. When you arrive, you find your uncle lounging, and only a couple of people in the restaurant.

"Hey Kon, you're back!" he calls. "Come on and relax, it's a slow day for some reason."

You take a seat by your uncle and spend the rest of the afternoon telling him about your training, taking a small break whenever you get another customer. He's as excited as ever to hear about your exploits. Later in the evening, you savor a nice dinner, your first real meal in a month, then get to bed early. You leave for the Land of Iron in the morning.
