It's a strange sensation, dreaming while passed out. It's more like a hallucination than anything else, your mind drifting uncontrollably, and it's rather jarring having Angie there, keeping part of you conscious to converse with you. It's hard to tell what shapes or images are around you, but Angie moves through the jumbled imaginings like a fish through water.

“Looks like you got pretty messed up in the head. You're out cold. Nearly dead, actually, but you're recovering. Someone is taking very good care of you.”

You don't have to look to know the shadowy manifestation of your sense of fear is forming behind you. Well, it's proof that you're still human at least, that you still have a primal fear of death. Angie either doesn't see it or doesn't care, moving closer and examining you. You hold still, trying to adjust to the sensations around you, but the more you try to adapt the less control you seem to have, so you relax and hold still for Angie.

“Yep, that'd do it. You didn't get a channel cut for your power to flow through. That devil carved a valley. They didn't leave much of a signature, I don't recognize the name, but I think they're expecting a call back later for being so... helpful. You're gonna have some fun...”

Angie shrugs a bit and yawns softly. You try to form a response, but your head is fuzzy and the words just won't come. You can only manage a nod and a muttered agreement.

“It's probably a test, which is weird. I think your little speech about ambition made them want to see what your limit was. And since you're going to live, you passed. Normal devils of that rank don't do stuff like that, they take a shotgun approach. I guess this Tellarie is a bit more choosy. I'll see if I can get some information on them for next time.”

She pats you on the head with a smile when you nod again.
>>
“Aww, you can't even speak. Has my beauty stolen all your words away? Or are you just concussed from passing out and hitting your head on a rock? Probably the second one. Well, I'll leave you to it. Have fun with your nightmare monster thing.”

Angie vanishes and the world around you loses all cohesion. You fall into darkness, your fear creeping at your back, and drift.

-

New stat acquired: Spirit. Spirit is your magic stat. When activating or controlling spells, this is the stat you'll be using. Due to a mix of a sheer dumb luck and your choice in how to speak with Tellarie, your starting Spirit is 2.

-

You awaken slowly. You're warm, which is nice. Warm is better than cold. The smells are familiar, but you can't quite place them. You can see a purple blur, a curtain perhaps, and sunlight beyond it. Someone is touching your hair, stroking idly, and you lean into the touch slightly. It feels nice, and the sensation helps you to focus your mind on something as you claw your way through the haze and into wakefulness.

“Good morning.”

You yawn softly and pause, opening your eyes fully. Jennifer is sitting on a chair next to you, reading a book and petting your hair softly. She glances at you, her expression neutral, and goes back to her reading. You look around for a moment to take stock of the situation. You're in Sammy's bed, there's a bandage around your head and another around your hand, and you're naked under the sheets. Jennifer, on the other hand, is wearing a black silk robe of some sort, tied at the waist, but with her body turned slightly away from you you can't tell what else she's got on. Your eyes fall on the book she's flipping through. It's your hemomancy tome.

Fuck.

>Rules
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

You sit up slightly, keeping one hand on the sheet to keep it from slipping too low, and do a quick check of yourself. Ten fingers, ten toes, your head isn't killing you and you don't feel like you're going to be sick. In fact, you feel really good, better than you've ever felt before. You'd be tempted to try and test out your new magic right away, but you've got company. Speaking of which...

“Good morning, Jennifer. I hope this isn't a rude question, but where are my clothes?”

She slowly turns one of the pages before responding.

“In the wash. They were covered in blood and dirt. We didn't have anything in your size, and didn't expect we'd need to order new medical gowns so soon. You have your dignity intact though. Stephen patched you up.”

You nod slightly and pause, unraveling the bandage around your head and hand. You lightly feel around for where you struck your head, but there's no trace of any bruising, and when you look at your palm it's the same way. Jennifer looks over at you and points to the book.

“It says that within the first few hours of receiving your first taste of power, your body undergoes a kind of metamorphosis. It's not a physical change so much as a spiritual one, but it does cause you to heal very quickly for a short span. I presume that you're hungry.”

She grabs a glass from the bedside table full of clear liquid and takes a sip. It smells like aniseed. She looks at you expectantly, waiting for you to confirm or deny your hunger. Now that she mentioned it, you realize you're starving.

You nod.

"Famished, actually. The ritual went better than expected, instead of a trickle of power I got a river. Where's the pantry? And is there anything I shouldn't eat?"

You move to wrap the blanket around yourself and get up and find Jennifer's hand on your chest. She gives you a firm, assertive look that melts into one that's almost affectionate.

"You're awake now. That means the rush will be ending soon. You feel fine, but in a few minutes you'll be dizzy again. I'm not trusting you in the kitchen on your own. This isn't an order or a demand, but a request. Let me take care of you."

You nod slightly when you feel a gentle throb pass through your head.

"Fine. I'll... I'll let you."

She nods and sets the book down on her chair.

"Here."

She slips her robe off, revealing her silky black underthings, and passes it to you. She's doing it on purpose, you know she is, but you can't help stealing a glance here and there.

"You can wear this until your clothes are dry."

She turns and walks toward the door, and you look at the robe for a moment before watching her saunter off. You slip the robe on and tie it securely, walking slowly to make sure nothing peeks out through the robe, following her downstairs. She heads into the kitchen and gets to work, slipping on an apron as you find a seat.

"So, you can read Latin?"

Jennifer nods.

"I had a religious upbringing. Catholic school. I learned Latin so i could help conduct services. I wanted to be a nun, until I learnedI couldn't marry. Then I became involved with a local church, helping out with fundraisers and charity work. I was actually engaged to the Sunday school teacher before I met Patrick and... was selected by him."

She says it with no small amount of bitterness, and you can almost picture it. Jennifer, sharing a happy and content life with a cheerful and quiet man, only to be taken away by a boisterous werewolf to be his pack mate. She falls silent, working on an omelette for you.

"So what do you plan to do about it? Because unless you say something, nothing is going to change. And based on last night, I'm pretty sure you want out."

Jennifer laughs softly, a quiet, mocking chuckle.

"There is no plan. Short of Patrick dying or losing his position to another werewolf, I'm trapped. There is no divorce among werewolves. Either one of us dies or someone else claims me as theirs and they're strong enough for their claim to stick."

She glances at you for a brief moment.

"As for last night... I said a lot of foolish things. I was drunk, and not myself. Kindly disregard what occurred between us. I'll make sure that it doesn't happen again. It means nothing."

She's easier to read than Angie is, that's for sure. You can tell it meant something to her, particularly once you had her walls down. Here she is, making breakfast for you in her underwear and saying her advances last night didn't mean a thing. Who is she trying to fool?

And then it clicks. She didn't order you to not cook, she asked permission to cook for you. It's her home, where she's the queen, and she's taking care of you personally. She's treating you like she's your superior in word alone, and even then she's making concessions so she can tend to you. And that bit about someone claiming her, followed by her looking right at you... You steer the conversation in a more neutral direction while you try to figure out your approach.

"Noted. So what happened last night? I did the ritual and then passed out."

Jennifer plates the omelette with a nod.
>>
You glance around the house.

"And the others?"

Jennifer sets the plate in front of you along with a knife and fork before heading to the fridge.

"Work, errands or both. We're alone until sunset. I've already called ahead to let them know you had a medical emergency, and the nurse said it was fine for you to take today off. Do you want a drink?"

Way to go, Angie. Watching out for you as always.

You take a bite of the omelet. It's pretty good, actually. You didn't really expect her to be any good at cooking considering her status, but then again, before marrying Patrick (or however it works for werewolves, you're still not sure, especially with this whole “claiming” thing) she was expecting to be a simple housewife somewhere.

“Something non-alcoholic. I did lose a lot of blood last night, and regenerated or not I don't want to chance it.”

Jennifer bends over to get something from the bottom shelf and you fight not to just stare openly at her. You know you'd just be giving her the satisfaction. Then again, considering last night, maybe being the one person who can hold back from her charms is what would give her satisfaction? She straightens back up and pours you a glass of orange juice, evaluating your reaction passively as she sets the glass beside your plate. You swallow another mouthful before speaking.

“I have video of Mark. Proof that he tried to attack me on campus, and how he views Sammy. I didn't want to spread it around last night, for obvious reasons, but after what we talked about I figure this sort of evidence is exactly what you've been waiting for. Wanna look over the footage with me?”

Jennifer raises an eyebrow and gives a slight nod.

“Of course. The sooner I have that proof, the sooner I can end my facade. After last night... I'd prefer not to go back to having to act so coldly towards her in public.”

You pause for a moment. You don't know where your phone is.

“What did you do with the rest of my stuff?”

Jennifer gestures with her thumb down a nearby hall.

“Your bag and the contents of your pockets are in the wash room, along with your clothes. They should be about done, if you want to get changed. It took three cycles to get out all the stains.”

“I should probably get changed, yeah. I mean, I've kept you disrobed for too long. It's impolite to keep imposing on you.”

Jennifer looks at you for a moment, before giving you a small smile.

“I'll be back in a moment then.”

She turns and walks off, sauntering once more for your benefit. It's slowly turning into a game, with her doing these little flirtatious acts while you try to keep your sensibilities intact. She's waiting for you to crumble and go to her, or take control of the situation and show she's playing on your terms. You have no idea how to do that, though, at least, not without potentially crossing lines you aren't sure exist. You aren't even sure if she'd listen if you gave her an order, or if that would constitute a loss as well.

You turn your attention back to your meal, eating it quickly to fill the empty space in your stomach and washing it down with juice. Jennifer returns with your clothes, folded neatly, with your wallet and phone on top. She sets them on the counter and glances at you, taking the empty plate and glass and walking with them to the sink.

You grab your phone and open your messages while looking over at Jennifer.

“Mind if I get some privacy while I get changed?”

Jennifer deposits the dishes in the sink and nods, turning and heading for the stairs.

“I'm going to run and fetch something. I'll be back in just a moment.”

You wait until she's out of sight before you start to get changed, your phone scrolling slowly through your new messages for you. The first one is from Meliora, and it simply reads “IHATEYOUIHATEYOU” over and over until the character limit, which is quite considerable on this phone. The next seven are all random characters, but when you resize the font they form pictures. Some are flowers, and some are cute pictures of kittens. The last one from her read:

“I'm sorry for my outbursts. I do hate you though. I ran the subroutines, like you advised me to. I designated you as the target of my affections, since I didn't really have anyone else I trusted not to hold it over my head if I acted strangely. I had to delete my protocols for wireless communication and hide out in the woods to avoid saying something stupid based on those idiotic emotions. If that's truly what love is, and the effect is has on me is such a drastic reduction in my intelligence, then I want no part in it. Anyway, I thought that you should know. PS, I hate you so, so much for this. I'm not saying it's your fault. I'm saying I'm blaming you.”

The only other message is from Sammy, a good morning text making sure that you're alright. There's a particular section that catches your eye though.

“My mom wanted me to let you know that we talked last night. She said that she wanted you to know you can trust her, but that you wouldn't believe it if she said it. She also said something about a promise, I think. I don't really remember, I was tired. It was something about keeping her word to someone from here on though, and she said you'd understand. Anyway, I hope this message finds you well, and I'll see you around.”
>>
You debate appropriate responses to both of them while you adjust your clothes and slip your wallet into your pocket, the robe folded on the table, when Jennifer walks back downstairs with your tome.

“I have an idea. I did some light reading earlier in this book, and since I'm sure you're dying to try out your new powers, I've selected a simple spell that will both let you experiment a bit and help us get to know each other. It's a spell that compels the target to speak the truth. Eight questions, eight answers. You can tell when I lie, and force me to speak the truth. I won't be able to reciprocate, of course, but I thought it might be fun.”

She sets the tome on the table and grabs the robe, slipping it back on.

“What do you think?”

>Sure thing, let me just message someone back first and we'll get started. How do I perform the spell?
>How about we pick something else? That seems a tad invasive.
>Maybe some other time, I'm kinda tired. I'll just take a nap or something.

You slip your phone into your pocket and grab the tome and open it. You mentally try to steer it towards the right page, with all the information you need, and the book responds. It looks pretty basic. Two rings of blood, one inner and one outer, with some symbols between them, eight in total. Then there's a brief chant and that's it.

“Seems simple enough. What's the price I have to pay though?”

Jennifer moves to your side, pointing out a section you can only barely comprehend.

“This version requires a target to willingly submit to the spell from the beginning. Any future resistance on my part won't break the spell. I have to trust you, completely, that you won't use the spell to draw out information I don't want to give you. And I do. So this spell has no cost except the blood used to form the circles and symbols. You're not doing anything drastic with it except detecting lies, and compelling truths I should be willing to give anyway.”

She takes your hand, shifting just enough for her claws to appear, and gently cuts the tip of your finger. You look at the bead of red that forms from the cut, then at her. She holds up the book for you.

“Focus on the shape. Imagine that it's already printed on the ground. Then just press your finger to the ground and concentrate. At least, that's what the book says to do.”

You shrug a bit and crouch, kneeling down and closing your eyes. The circles and symbols seem so clear in your mind, and you picture the power you feel in your blood spreading across the floor to form the spell. When you open your eyes you see the outline on the floor, exactly as you pictured it. It doesn't look like you had to use much blood, either, it's pretty small. Jennifer immediately steps onto the drying spell pattern, holding still.

“Now just chant the words, focus, and we're all set.”
>>
You grab the tome and look at her. There's a hint of nervousness on her face, second thoughts. Well, she wants to play games, you play to win. You begin chanting the spell and the symbols glow. You watch them lift off the floor, each one rising and circling her before forming a ring around her neck and vanishing. The circles on the floor fade away, and you feel slightly drained, like you just worked out for the first time in weeks. You can't tell if you're more excited that it worked, or what it means for your future endeavors. Probably both. You set the tome down and look at Jennifer. Question time.

You nod to yourself. Something to test the water before you move on to anything too earthshaking. If nothing else it'll let her know you're not going to hold back.

“What do you have on Marie that makes her do what you tell her?”

Jennifer hesitates for a moment, her neutral expression cracking a little bit more.

“...I know that she slept with someone. As far as anyone else knows, she's a virgin, and her father is setting her up with someone who presumes as much. We have an arrangement. I keep her secret, and will help her to fake an incident that will cover up that fact, and in return she serves me loyally. Once she's married and settled down, she'll no longer be bound to that debt. And for clarity, she was the one who came to me begging for my help. She swore her service to me, and I accepted. I will trust that you won't go spreading that around to anyone so you don't ruin her life.”

You don't feel anything to indicate a lie, but you're pretty sure that Marie wasn't expecting quite that much control over her life. Another part of her guise as the cold-hearted bitch, you suppose. Either that or Marie pissed her off or something. Either way there's more to the story, but you don't know if you want to spend your questions digging through it right now.

You grab a chair and sit down, keeping your eyes on Jennifer's.

“Why did you try so hard to mess things up between me and Sammy?”

Jennifer hangs her head slightly and closes her eyes.

“I already told you that one. I've only ever wanted to make her strong enough to stand on her own two feet, to provide the adversity she needs to grow. That and a mother needs to know if a boy is right for her daughter. That fact that I also find you appealing didn't become apparent to me until you left with her, defying my gaze and refusing to back down. If you're referring to last night, my intention wasn't to come between you. That incident was entirely removed from Sammy, I didn't even consider her.”

You can tell that's a lie, and nudge with the spell almost on reflex. Something inside her gives way, and she tenses.

“I thought about her and how much I would regret trying to make a pass on you, it wasn't about making things difficult for you, I was scared of hurting my daughter but I couldn't help myself.”

Jennifer's eyes open wide and she glares at you.

“Not a word.”

You nod slightly and make a mental note to be more careful with how you push for information. It's so easy to squeeze the truth out of her over any little lie, but half of the game is in the subtext.

You wave your finger back and forth like a metronome while making soft ticking noises, and instead of using the spell to force her to speak, you try to use it as a threat, nudging her with it gently, letting her know this is something you want answered. Jennifer draws a slow breath and takes some time to consider her words, finally speaking after close to a minute.

“I want you to want me. It's as simple as that. I'm working towards trying to make myself appealing to you. I'm not trying to break you up with Sammy. What you do with her is your own business.”

You give her another nudge and she stiffens.

“You only answered half the question. What about the rest?”

Jennifer glares at you for a moment.

“...Fine. I... want to be taken. Not by brute force, but by someone who has a will I can't crack. Who does what he likes because he feels like it. Who I have no control over, but who can control me.”

You keep up the gentle prodding, and she clenches her fists.

“Like I said, I don't care what happens with Sammy. I want you to do as you please, because that's what you've done so far, and every time you overstep a boundary, or defy my will, it sets me off a little bit. It's like nothing I've ever felt before. All my life, even as a child, I got what I wanted, when I wanted it. Now I'm face to face with someone who intrigues me, and who wants me to earn whatever affection he chooses to show me. It's maddening.

Every little game I play with you, every inch of revealed skin, it's to try to make you want me. And even now you're just toying with me, turning a game of introductions into an interrogation and exposing my every thought. You make me feel vulnerable without touching me. You make me feel like I'm powerless before you, and all you've used are your words and a spell I walked right into. This was supposed to be a test for you, not... not something that would leave me in this state...”

"At this point it's basically my job to make people underestimate me. You chose to give me a loaded gun with eight shots. I'm going to use them carefully. Now... Tell me about Sammy. You spoke with her, you patched things up, or started to. And now, here we are, with you confessing you want me. I have to wonder where that leaves her. How do you really feel about her?"

Jennifer seems to relax a little bit with that question. Maybe she just feels more confident answering this one, or maybe she knows what the truth is without needing to dig deep. She doesn't break into a smile though.

"She's my daughter and I love her. She's also my rival for you, but I don't begrudge her for that. It's not about her in my eyes, as I said. That's between you and her depending on what you want to do. With regards to Sammy herself, I feel as any mother would."

There's no lie there that you can detect, and Jennifer relaxes a bit further when there's no immediate prodding, letting out a sigh. Well, no reason to let her rest on her laurels just yet. You did just warn her against underestimating you.

>>44067615
She's not worth the risk, to be honest.
>>
>>44067645
thank you. which is why I don't understand why everyone is so scared disappointing Sammy, she already pretty much said she's do most if not all things to help us for our ritual. I feel like if the time need be we're not going to be able take full advantage of what we have.
>>
>>44067690
it's not about having Jennifer but the overall state of us not trying to screw things over with Sammy,

Yeah, we're early in a Campaign and we need to be careful because everything has their consequence but christ.
>>
>>44067719
Having a girlfriend who's totally willing to donate blood to our rituals is a definite plus.
If we were bigger assholes, I bet we could have convinced Jennifer to act as a sacrifice when she was insanely desperate.
>>
What is going to happen is simple, Jennifer is going to enter incest with her daughter to make her totally okay with the idea of a threesome just to get at Oliver. Then she'll keep going until her fucking Oliver is as common as Sammy doing it.

Easy.
>>
>>44067690
... You know, we could just ask her if she can think of a way it would work. She knows the ins & outs of werewolf society better than we do.

And from her statement >>44062704 it reads like Patrick basically kidnapped her.

We should ask her if that's what she meant, too. If she never had any choice in mate, we have no moral obligation to support their "marriage"
>>
>>44067615
Have we actually seen any evidence of them hating vampires because of racism instead of just the local clans because their members are douchebags and not liking trespassers on their territory in general?
>>
>>44067757
Everybody Wins!
>>
>>44067757
Well then I'd probably vote to kill her with blood magic in an excruciating and messy fashion.
>>
You decide to pitch her another slow ball and surprise her with the next big question.

" What's the current situation with the clan? I'm being general here, inside and out. I want the specifics. I'm gonna be part of it soon after all."

Jennifer nods slightly, relaxing further.

"Internally we're stable. Patrick and Stephen form a strong spine for the clan, with Patrick serving as the leader and champion, and Stephen forming the brains of the operation and doing the tasks that Patrick doesn't want to or can't. I keep the ladies in line and play politics to keep up-and-comers from rising too quickly. As for externally..."

Jennifer pauses and looks off to the side.

"Externally we're a mess. Our territory is shrinking. Patrick is strong, but Stephen can't coach him every single second. Our deal with the Collins is meant as a series of concessions. The evidence you have on Mark is our last shot at turning the tide. Without it, they'll drive us all the way back to the mountain. Sammy won't be safe at school and we'll have to send her away like her siblings."

She looks back at you, her expression once again neutral.

"Another reason to be thankful for you."

Jennifer smiles wryly for a moment.

"Barring special circumstances, werewolves can't use magic. But we're resistant to certain kinds. Our curse interferes with many forms of magic related to manipulating our bodies, though apparently, not our minds. So there's no reason for us to study it. But I did."

She folds her arms.

"I studied magic looking for a way to use it, and then for a way to fix Sammy's condition. I know seven different systems of magic thoroughly enough to teach them, and I'm versed in several others to the point that I can recognize them on sight. >>
>>44068431
Now that I think about it. is this basically a Road on to Becoming the big bad under the guise of becoming the vampire?
>>
>>44068462
When was this? I don't recall her saying that. Not saying you're wrong, I just have shit-tier memory.

I don't think we'll ever be prepared to face the divine host, anon.
>>
>>44068462
Also, mom & dad were both low level vamps when we staked them.
>>
>>44068438
>you just want to hate her so bad you aren't willing to look at it. Probably because of problems with your own family.
I dont think you know which anon you're talking with dude. I love my mom and I like Jennifer as a character... So i don't know where all that assumption is coming from.

>>44068488
During the first card game. I'm not at home so I can't link the pastebin rn.
>>
>>44068503
Most likely, he's projecting.
>>
>>44068482
Ends justify the means. We just need to become a powerful vampire and then bringing our family back will make everything worth it.
>>
>>44068495
Dad was a low level feral, Mom implied she was high enough to resurrect him.

>>44068488
When we were talking to her after Staking Vanessa and she told us she was an gel of death. We asked if we'd have to worry about Vannessa coming back and she said the kid was not important enough to be raised then turned again.

>>44068521
Honestly? Dad is a lock. Mom? Not sure on her at all.
>>
>>44068521
I'm still convinced that's a Geas we should get rid of so we can get a motivation that actually seems like it matters to the character instead.
>>
>>44068503
>So i don't know where all that assumption is coming from.
Your constant demands that we kill her, perhaps? Unless you're not the anon that has been saying that, in which case sorry.
>>
>>44068554
You mean the guy whose base posts are

>get Power, kill her because useless.

No. im not that him.
>>
>>44068554
It's at least three anons.
>>
>>44068539
First thread, Oliver doesn’t care if it's a geas or not. He wants his family. If you aren't willing to play along with the core premise of this quest, why even join it?
>>
>>44068537
But that doesn't state we explicitly need to be a vampire to bring someone back, and it brings the dead vamp back as normal, as implied by "turned again"

Implications.
>>
>>44068575
No, it's one or two anon who don't understand the story at all.

We know she was a vampire and maybe Palpatine.

>>
>>44068577
Because everything else is good and the core premise languishes in irrelevance 98% of the time?
>>
>>44068598
True but she was bragging how we ahd to be her son "to cause that man more pain" and was laughing about his demise. Then the possible geass'ing makes me leery as fuck unless Dad says she's cool.
>>
>>44068593
Again, it's the only method we know for sure will work. Keep up here, anon. Just cause there's wolfgirl dickings and blood manipulation powers along the way doesn’t mean our core goal has changed at all. This is literally Day 3 of being at our school.

Nah, you're just getting distracted.

Insisting that everyone who disagrees with you is a samefag over and over again isn't healthy.
>>
You shift a little in your seat to get comfortable and look at Jennifer for a moment. One last question to tease her, something she won't expect, and then the last one will be the big one to break her down. You smile coyly and watch her squirm.

“Tell me about vampires. What do you know about them? Skills, abilities, organizations and methods. I want all of it. By the time you're done I want to know everything I'd care to know about vampires.”

Jennifer looks disappointed by the question, sighing and shifting from one foot to the other.

“I'll begin with their creation myth then. You've heard of Dracula, correct? Vlad the Impaler, among other names. Vampires maintain that he existed, that the first vampire was a powerful blood mage and necromancer who consorted with devils in a quest to obtain eternal life. With a mix of alchemy, infernal pacts and the sacrifice of his own people, he obtained it. He became the first vampire. But it didn't satisfy him. He had life, but nothing to do with that life.

And so he bound seven devils, one for each sin, and forced them to bear a child for him. And so he was blessed with eight daughters. The daughter of pride shared his pure white hair and declared that she was the true heir because she was closest to her father in appearance. The daughter of green shared his keen mind and perceptiveness and declared that she was the true heir because...

Well, the important thing is that for each sin, that daughter thought she was closest to their father and the true heir to his domain and power. Except for the twins of envy. Both thought the other was closer to their father, until at last one was so overcome by her jealousy that she murdered her sister. That act made him scatter them, banishing them to distant places, ashamed of what he had brought into the world. The vampires we see today descend from those seven daughters.
>>
>>44068654
Nah no mindrape, Max at least has some standards.
>>
No one has seen Dracula since that day, and he may very well still be walking the earth somewhere, biding his time for some unknown purpose. Maybe he's looking for an heir worthy of his name. Or maybe he died long ago, and took his secrets with him. His estate burned to the ground the night he sent his daughters away.

There are seven vampire families around the town, each claiming a territory of their own, and each practicing their own unique style of hunting and disguising themselves. It's impossible to tell which clan is which sin, otherwise we'd be able to exterminate them fairly quickly. Rumors persist that there are only six sins represented in their number, and that the seventh sin is currently a lesser house, waiting for the pretenders to be removed so that they can rise again.

The seven families are Kenney, Porter, Strewth, Clark, Landing, Black and Meyers. There are a number of lesser houses, but they tend to get shuffled around and their allegiances change regularly based on blood pacts and negotiations. Vanessa, the vampire you staked, was part of the Black family.

With regards to the method of execution, a stake will kill any vampire, it's the other weaknesses that vary between bloodlines. Sunlight, holy water, holy symbols, garlic, prayers, moving water, fire. I can get into what goes with what sin, but generally speaking it makes sense. Garlic for gluttony, for instance, and sunlight for sloth.
>>
>>44068654
Agreed. We have to be top vamp.

...maybe there's a blood magic ritual that will do something similar? Like, they sacrifice their freedom to us willingly, and both sides get stronger as a result?
We could powerboost Sammy and Jennifer, if that's a thing...
>>
That about sums up my knowledge of them. I know that the Black family lost an important piece on the board with Vanessa gone, and I know that the other families are turning up the pressure. I know that in doing so they're easing up on us, which gives us more room to fight back against the Collins family. And I know that you've upset things enough that Gerald Strewth emerged from his coffin to personally confront Stacy Clark over a very old debt.”

Jennifer looks at you as though daring you to throw another weak question at her, to waste your shot on something she'd tell you anyway. She acts as though you spent all your good questions at the start and have just been filling space. Well, you've got one more question in you, and you kinda wanna see her snap. Or maybe just beg again.

You meet her gaze and give her a smile of your own.

“Did you think I was out of good questions? I was saving the best for last.”

Jennifer looks at you for a moment before paling slightly. She's been caught, and she knows that what you're about to ask will be something you can hold over her head, possibly forever. You debate asking her about her deepest fear, but you don't need to scare her into doing what you want her to do. You don't even need that as punishment. But what to ask? What could you pry out of her while she's forced to tell the truth that would be juicy enough? Then you hit upon it.

Jennifer watches you nervously as you start to circle her, and you smile mischievously as you draw the moment out. She's your prey right now, and she seems to realize it. You move behind her, and as she turns to follow you, you slip in right behind her and lean in, whispering.

“What is your deepest, darkest and most twisted fantasy? The one you imagine late at night when no one is around, the one that stirs deep inside your being that made you look at me and want me. Tell me that one, the one you could never tell a soul.”

Jennifer stands there, completely rigid, her breath catching. You take a single step away from her and give her a suitably firm prod with the spell. Her words are breathless and trembling, and she shivers with every word.

“That... I... Oliver, please...”

You give her another prod, and Jennifer sinks to her knees, hanging her head. You slowly move in front of her and look at her face. Her eyes are wide, and every fiber of her being is fighting what she's about to say.

“I... My fantasy is... I-I can't say it... Please, it... Especially not to you...”

You turn the pressure up slowly, little by little, watching the expression on her face change as she realizes you're not holding back. A change comes over her expression, and her eyes begin to get shiny, a smile forming on her lips as she blushes. She stares at the floor, refusing to meet your gaze, and finally she cracks all at once.

“This is my fantasy. To be controlled, manipulated and overwhelmed. To have my own will stripped from me piece by piece by a man I desire. To have no control, not because of brute force but because my mind is incapable of rebelling. To be cornered and know it, not for fear of being struck or injured, but because someone else holds the reins. That's why I couldn't tell you. Because knowing I want to be controlled means that you're not doing it against my will. And there's no way to make either of us forget, at least, not at the level of magic that you're at... Or if there is, I don't know of it...”

Jennifer simply sits there, staring at the floor, unmoving. All her dignity and pride is gone now. She's not the haughty queen of the werewolves who's beyond control, too wild and willful to be tamed. She just wants to be tamed in a way that no werewolf could ever accomplish since they lack magic.

You smile a bit and head back over to your chair, sitting down.

“Thank you for sharing, Jennifer. I appreciate your... honesty. Anything you want to ask me about?”

Jennifer shakes her head slowly, sighing and rubbing her eyes.

“No. Not at present. I've been enlightened enough for one morning.”

She gets to her feet and takes a few moments to breathe, trying to calm herself down. Her ears are shifting, and her tail is visible behind her, so it's clearly not working. She turns and heads for the stairs.

“I'll be in my room. I need some time to myself.”

You watch her head for the stairs and uncross your legs, using your magic to reduce the fairly painful erection you've got. Skater jeans are not conducive to lording your magical power over a helpless victim, and seeing her all hot and bothered like that got you pretty steamed up yourself. It's only been about twenty-four hours since you last had release, but the Wolfe girls just keep making life hard on you. Heh. Hard-on. God you hate your dad for instilling in you a knack for stupid puns.

You glance at the stairs, then at your book. You've still got your translator on your phone, you could probably keep practicing on your own, or try to find a ride back to school. That said, you haven't delivered the evidence yet. Jennifer is probably either meditating or preparing for some much-needed relief of her own. Decisions, decisions...

You grab your book and look at the stairs one last time. Curiosity grips you, and you search for a spell to make her forget what she told you. If a spell to ensure the truth only cost blood, maybe willingly forgetting a memory costs the same too. A quick search with the relevant questions on your mind leads you to two discoveries. One, you can cast a spell and hold it as a charge for use later, meaning that you don't need to cast on the spot, just plan ahead. Two, the spell exists. It uses more blood than the other one, but you haven't had any I'll effects so far and even if you do there are probably blood bags in the medical supply room.

You examine the spell circle and translate portions of the effects to get the relevant information. The spell will eradicate, not suppress, a single memory that the target wishes to forget and that the caster wishes them not to remember. Consent isn't required, only the genuine will to forget. It's listed as something meant for helping people with traumatic memories, so it's relevant, but if Jennifer doesn't want to remember, you could make her forget.

What would be the purpose of doing that when it's one of our main goals. and we aren''t Willing to forget them anyway. so it wont work.

It's not rape if she wants us to do it to her. Though she doesn't want to know that she wants us to do it to her....is confusing, but justified. Plus, seems like a very useful spell in general. We should get good at it.

If that's how it works, then I'm not sure it would work on anyone with a psychology close to a normal human. I'd imagine some part of the mind would always be nervous about or resistant to change through unnatural magical influence.

>>44069678
Wrong anon, I just don't think the spell's mechanics function like that.
>>
>>44069678
Or it's the fact not everyone agrees with you.

Unfortunately, people will disagree, and on this matter it is very likely.

I would say Oliver wants to remember, because without that drive he probably would be doing fuckall or being dead right now. Having a goal like that forces him into some crazy shit, for instance had he not had this goal, he would likely have never learned blood magic in the first place to cast this spell.

Not everyone is a samefag, and not everyone is a troll or an asshole. Acting like they are is both pretentious and shits up the thread with accusations. There will be some, yes, but don't give them the time of day.
>>44069713
>I'd imagine some part of the mind would always be nervous about or resistant to change through unnatural magical influence.

Certainly, but they don't actually have to be aware magic is being cast on them. They don't have to be willing to be magicked, they just have to be willing to forget in the first place.

Gentlemen, you were wasted.
>>
You get to work on the spell right away, following the same directions as before. Form the pattern with your blood, chant, and watch it do its thing. You make the necessary alterations to the spell to turn it into a charge, though by the time you get everything set up just right you're feeling a little dizzy. Not a lot, you're still functional, but you can definitely feel the loss of blood now. You need to get some fluids in your system. You head for the fridge, get some juice and down it, taking a few moments to regard your work. You make a few little corrections here and there, and sit down to go over the chant before you actually cast anything.

You're on your second cup of juice and third cookie before you feel up to casting the spell, and you turn on some lights to make sure that you can see everything clearly in case anything goes wrong. With the afternoon sun on the opposite side of the house, it's starting to get a little bit dark. You weren't exactly keeping track of time or anything, and heck, you don't know precisely when you woke up. The important thing is that it's Cast O'clock. You focus, chant, and cast the spell. The symbols roll up into a red glowing point, which enters your palm. You can feel the spell just waiting to be released once you touch your target.

“Oh, hello Oliver. How are you?”

You look up and spot Patrick and wave.

“Oh, hey there. I'm fine. Feeling pretty good. Helped myself to some cookies, home you don't mind.”

He laughs a bit and heads for the stairs.

“Not at all. Enjoy yourself.”
>>
You nod and close your book. Jennifer is going to be in for a surprise when you... when... You look at the stairs, your mind struggling to put the pieces together. You hadn't been paying attention at all. It takes you a moment to realize you never heard his car pull up, or heard him walk inside. You only noticed him at all because he said hello. Jennifer went upstairs hornier than she's been in her life, unless you completely misread the whole situation. Patrick is home, and just went up there, and Jennifer's door is broken.

Oh no.

Maybe, but the encounter itself is settled. There's no more conflict now. We won. We aren't going into the next thread wondering if we can make it, we did. No fight, just victory. We rolled once and something that should have been a big fucking deal was done by that one set of rolls.

The fights aren't the point of this quest. This is very much a social thing. I'm sorry it doesn't fit what you want, but the short dice rolls are why he has time to construct such a good story.
>>
>>44070324
Usually the crits are more "you do a thing very well and get a moderate bonus" and less "you instantly defeat the boss monster gg no re."

It reminds me of a story I saw recently in a bad DMing thread where a DM instakilled a red dragon that an adventure had been building up to a fight against because it rolled a botch and two more botches when determining the results of the first botch, if I'm being perfectly honest. Technically the correct result, but frustrating and dull.

It was? My mistake. I thought it was winnable, or at least you have a chance with that suit. The one designed to help fight monsters. The suit whose primary purpose is for fighting monsters. The monster-fighting suit. But I guess I was wrong about my own lore and you have no chance at all.

>>44070423
If this counts as a boss fight then I need to seriously reconsider half my content.

>>44070466
This I can agree with. And I have no intention of trivializing it. The crit-win rule exists to streamline combat if you get lucky, not to make fights "easy". It'll be treated with the gravity it deserves.

>>44070515
Man am I tired. I only get this snippy when I'm exhausted. I apologize. That was harsher than it needed to be.
>>
>>44070538
No problem boss, you put the pissy anons in their place.

Honestly hoping we can get them to sit down and talk after this. Also if he wants to hand Alpha status to us I hope anons have the good graces to say no. because it wasn't a challenge, we cheated with the armor, and we caught him with his pants down literally. I mean we'd be happy to help out but Alpha would take up waaaaaaaaay too much time and we're not a real werewolf, which would lose the clan a lot of respect.

:) I'm really looking forward to the next quest. Do you have a twitter or something, for when I get around to editing this down?

Well, we should take Jennifer from him anyway. Abusive kidnapping dick.
Charismatic, but he's still an abusive kidnapping dick.

We made a snap judgement about him and Jennifer, but all the evidence since then has shown those judgements to be wrong.
>>
>>44070608
Well, he hasn't been a dick, he's abusive out of ignorance more than anything else, and we have no evidence on kidnapping, but I'm willing to bet it was her own family pressing her into it.
>>
>>44070299
With a 3-4 hour warning before the thread starts, preferably.
>>
>>44070608
>Evidence

only thing he's guilty off of is ignorance.
That can be fixed. We have no proof he's intentionally abusive or a kidnapper. Remember political marriages happen in magic land and unlike Marc he's not been a dick.

>I was actually engaged to the Sunday school teacher before I met Patrick and... was selected by him."
You may have a point, but it amounts to the same thing. She's been in it against her will. She wants our help, and in exchange we'll get her help with the whole magic thing. Between that and Angie teaching us how to dick with demons, we ought to be able to succeed in our goals.

And right now it seems like we should try to replicate Dracula's rite.
I also still think we should research some sort of master - servant pact, so we could know where Sammy is, if she's in danger, and power her up.

Patrick saw her, decided he wanted her, and that was that, from how it reads. That's not a political marriage, that's kidnapping.

This is why I wanted to ask more details about her marriage while she was under the spell.
>>
>>44070730
Or it's a political marriage, because Patrick had to marry a girl of their clan to cement an alliance or other sort of agreement, and they let him pick which girl of their clan he wanted to marry. He chose Jennifer.

We do not have enough information to make any solid guess at this.
>>
>>44070778
Jennifer told us arctic wolves like she is only organize in small family groups of 3 or 4.
I know you like how bro Patrick is, but just because he's charismatic and nice to his kids doesn't mean he's not an abusive douchebag to his taken bride.

All of the information we currently have points towards him being rather shitty, overall.
>>
>>44070778
We have plenty of information, Patrick is an asshole.
>>
>>44070911
>Jennifer told us arctic wolves like she is only organize in small family groups of 3 or 4.
Okay, and that means what I said isn't possible because...? if anything, I feel like that might make it more likely to be how they handle marriage arrangements.

>All of the information we currently have points towards him being rather shitty, overall.
All of the information we currently have points to him being abusive out of ignorance with none of it pointing towards deliberate shitty behavior unless you deliberately try and interpret it in that manner, and evidence that's open to interpretation is not evidence.

>>44070931
We really don't.
>>
>>44070983
Sorry, but it doesn’t read like that to me. She was engaged, and then was forced to marry Patrick against her wishes. It doesn’t matter if her parents said yes, it's pretty clear Patrick wouldn’t have taken no for an answer, just like he doesn’t now. She didn't choose to marry him. That's kidnapping, by any ethical definition.
>>
>>44071040
>Sorry, but it doesn’t read like that to me.
At least you're admitting that your evidence is just how you chose to interpret one line from a single source that may or may not be suffering from reverse-nostalgia.

>She was engaged, and then was forced to marry Patrick against her wishes.
What a surprise, a political marriage that isn't what the girl wants. We also don't know if she was actually forced at the time. It's possible she was just unhappy with it at that point, but acquiesced to her parents' wishes without having to be forced. We don't know, because we didn't ask.

>It doesn’t matter if her parents said yes
It might, depending on age, culture, region, laws, etc, etc.

>it's pretty clear Patrick wouldn’t have taken no for an answer
Alternatively, he would've. We have no idea, as we are neither time travelers nor psychics.

>just like he doesn’t now.
You do realize she has said that he backs off if she manages to knock his senses back into him? He's a werewolf, evidently violence and resistance is normal bedroom behavior for them, and he keeps failing the perception checks to notice subtext and whether she actually wants him and is just playing that game or is genuinely not into it.

>She didn't choose to marry him. That's kidnapping, by any ethical definition.
Pretty sure ethics is just a term for a defined system of right and wrong, and those have varied wildly across cultures and time, so no.
>>
>>44071132
>It might, depending on age, culture, region, laws, etc,
Here is where we are not going to agree. What's wrong is wrong and I will not accept cultural apologism.
The same exact argument can, and has, been used to excuse human sacrifice, cannibalism, and genocide.

It's clear you don't want Patrick to be a bad guy, and so you're doing your best to view him in the best light. Ignoring all the "What ifs" we know
A) he forces himself on his wife, violently
B) she did not want to marry him, he did not give her a choice

That is all we factually know.
>>
>>44071173
I can understand being opposed to genocide IRL, because it's awful, as is involuntary human sacrifice, but voluntary human sacrifice is in a weird place to me, and cannibalism can be perfectly acceptable. I mean, if they're already dead and the alternative is starving to death, I know that I'd chow down, and I wouldn't think less of someone else for preferring it to death.

I feel we can define A as a result of ignorance and werewolf sexual norms rather than malicious intent, based off what both of them have said, at least. Doesn't mean it's okay and should be ignored, just that it's not reflective on his character as being anything but oblivious. At least to me.

As for B, we do know she didn't want to marry him, but I don't think we know if Patrick is the one that didn't give her a choice by his own will, just that she was in some way coerced into it once Patrick decided he wanted her as his bride. That could be interpreted as Patrick himself doing the forcing...or it could've been her own family pressuring her into it, threatening the life of the teacher or whatever. Jennifer did say they were cold at one point, IIRC. It's possible Patrick didn't even know she was being coerced if her family didn't tell him, since I don't think he was less oblivious back then.

So, yes, we know she didn't want to marry him, but we don't know if he's the one that forced her into it, since there are other possibilities without contradictory evidence.

To be clear, I'm not saying we shouldn't help Jennifer or get her out of it, she's not here by her own will and shouldn't be made to stay, but assuming Patrick is the bad guy, or that there even *is* a bad guy, seems foolish to me.
