The pleasant smile becomes a more menacing grin. "Well, if you believe he's happy with this result... ah well, it's about time, Goku." As he walks towards the ring, he glances back at you one more time, telepathically telling you, 'You could also make this match trivial for Goku, couldn't you? Ah, but you know he wouldn't like that...'

You cross your arms and give a mildly disappointed grunt. "You're supposed to be the smarter one, brobro. You know what? We're setting aside some time after this. Rematch, not for the tournament. You and me."

Your brother looks back with a bit of a more sincere smile. "...going to go help Tien. Good luck with the final round, sis."

As he flies off, Chi-chi walks with you over to the ring, giving a short laugh. "That dork... 'trying not to hold back.' Oh, what am I going to do with him, Maple?"

"Does he still refuse to eat broccoli?" you ask with a teasing tone.

Chi-chi's attempt at a respond is cut short as you see Aza and Goku charging at each other. Monkey boy's tired, more than you've ever seen him in this form... but Aza's much worse for wear. Their fists collide on each other's jaws, sending them flying backwards. Aza pants heavily. "I... I must admit... I wasn't expecting you to last this long... it seems you've learned how to control that form better than we anticipated... ha... haa... T-Towa will be most pleased..."

Goku laughs a little. "Eheh! Well, we all have a goal to reach, and only so much time to get there." He pulls his fist back. "Myself, Maple, Raditz, Acer and Chi-chi, Krillin and Lapis and Lazuli, Tien and Chiaotzu, Yamcha... everyone!" His aura flares around himself, Ki building up in his fist. You start hearing people cheer for him, louder and louder.

Aza pulls his own fist back, his aura surging as well, with those three shadowy dragons emerging from his aura. "Well said, Son Goku! So show me the full power of your training!" The two of them back up slightly, and bolt at each other. "KAGE-"

"DRAGON-!"

"RYU-"

"FIIIIIIIIST!"

"KEN!"

It's almost like Goku becomes engulfed in the giant, golden dragon of Ki that emerges from his clenched fist. The three around Aza surrounding him, spiraling with him towards Goku. The two contact...

...and Goku's plows right through the other technique. His Ki seems to keep rising, higher and higher as he finally hits Aza dead-on, knocking the Artificial Demon far out of bounds, past the Tournament grounds, and right into a mountain nearly a kilometer outside the city limits, leaving a noticeable crash.

The crowds go wild. You yourself can't help but cheer with them, excitedly shouting praise for your husband's victory. The Announcer Guy waits a bit before making the call, trying to regain composure from his own delighted cheering. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, OUR LAST TOURNAMENT'S CHAMPION HAS DEFINITELY WON THIS ROUND! SON GOKU ADVANCES TO THE FINAL ROUND!"

Now that he's lost, he might not have that much incentive to stay and observe the match. He may try to get his other plans into motion now, especially since he's a fair distance away from the tournament.

Use the Power Ball/False Moon technique.

Now Goku is form-locked to Oozaru form, and cannot transform to SSJ. While 10x powerboost and the innate physical power of the Oozaru isn't anything to sneeze at, it's probably easier to deal with than 50x Goku's normal power.

Plus, it might be harder for him to maneuver in the ring without getting a ring-out with his massive size.

Hey, Kato, I've got a question regarding everyone's strengths. While I'm not trying to accentuate negatives or anything, I have to admit that the point someone brought up earlier about how everyone except Goku seems to be progressing in roughly the same direction did ring somewhat true for me. Everyone being extremely close in power level is, I think, a very good thing. Having them all have some combination of Kaio-ken, Raio-ken, or both, with little else to distinguish them, is maybe not.

As someone who has followed this quest since almost the beginning, I can honestly say that my interest has waned considerably since near the end of Dragonball, for exactly this reason, and the transition to DBZ hasn't really helped things for me.

That said, what if we were to suggest, propose, or otherwise vote on potential "paths to power" for each of the major characters, at least for the time being? Each one of them is a unique character, so I think it would make the most sense for their eventual upgrades, powerups, and what have you be unique as well.

Obviously this is a discussion best left for the end of a thread, but would you be open to this sort of thing, if we were to open up some brainstorming at the end of the thread? I think it could be a fun exercise for everyone, and it could lead to developing the characters' individual fighting styles in some cool ways.

Piccolo nods. "Your 'potential' is higher than they seem to have expected at this point. What's more..." He glances at the kids. "...they're very curious about those two, based on what Goku's done."

That sends a shiver down your spine, and you can see Raditz momentarily gain a glare in his face. You take your kids into your arms, Peppa and Gohan smiling a- ...your daughter's clinging to a large stick quite tightly, smiling at you and Goku. Gohan tries to scoot away from her a little, somewhat worried. As Raditz approaches her, she tries to smack him on the head. He blocks it with his finger, giving her an annoyed look. You frown at your daughter. "Peppa no. Not nice." She tries to protest, but Goku giving her a frown too gets her to back down.

You all get some food together, Yamcha and his family hanging with Mark's, Videl and Pantea playing with some of their new toys together after getting some of the leftover birthday treats. Goku and Raditz discuss some things, mostly on what the long-haired Saiyan is planning on doing for the next round of training before his comrades arrive. And your kids... well, they and Izumi somehow have started making a little "fort" out of some of the dirt and mud and grass nearby. Gohan and Peppa playing "knights" while Izumi is the "princess" of their little castle, Icarus playing with the three as well. Somehow the whole thing ends up covered in glitter, of all things, too, much to Chi-chi's annoyance.

"We're STILL finding bits and pieces in her room since her birthday." she comments to you. "I'm worried she might be hiding some in places around the castle."

You laugh softly, eventually cleaning up the kids. "We're not sure what we'll be doing this year. Kids seem to already be taking up their 'weapons.'" you comment, seeing your daughter twirl a stick in the air in an attempt to mimic her father.

"Think I should train Peppa with the Power Pole, when she gets old enough?" Goku asks. "I betcha Gohan would love to learn how to use a sword from you, Maple." Seeing your kids expressions light up... well, definitely something to think on for another time.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the final round of the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament will start shortly, will our fighters please step into the ring?"

My goal in suggesting this is to break the characters out of the "everyone has Raio-Ken, Kaio-Ken, or both" situation that's been happening since near the end of the Dragonball threads. My intention is to make all the major players in the Earth Defense Force (that's what we ended up calling it, right?) much more distinct in their respective fighting styles, while still keeping everyone relevant. Kato keeping most everyone relevant is a good thing. We just
need to move away from everyone developing a largely-identical set of powerups. I'm not going to be suggesting ways for Goku to develop, since I think Goku is pretty much exactly where he needs to be in this regard.

So, let's look at Launch. She's trickier than some of the others, because she doesn't have a canon fighting style, and "machine gun" isn't a tournament-sanctioned martial art. She's taken a page out of Tien's book, in a lot of ways, but I think it's important to remember that she's as formidable as she is because of her raw power. She doesn't have a martial arts background to the extent that the rest of the cast does. Compared to everyone except maybe Yamcha, Launch hasn't been practicing martial arts for very long; certainly not for most of her life. In addition, I tend to dislike ideas that involve "weaponizing" or otherwise harnessing the power of her alternate personality. I've always interpreted blonde Launch as not actually being any more powerful than blue Launch; just more willing to become violent. To that end, I think a previous Anon actually had a good idea when he (jokingly) compared her to Ayla. While she's gone through plenty of training over
the years, she's still getting used to maintaining a tranquil mind, so rather than force it, it would make more sense for her to play to her own strengths, at least for now. A fighting style that takes advantage of ki-enhanced physical strength and defense would be her best bet. Rather than utilizing long-range techniques or the like, a focus on quickly overpowering her opponent would be perfect for her. A good comparison, in canon, would be Nappa. He's big, he's tough, he hits like a truck, and he causes a lot of collateral damage. Even being near him puts you in danger, even if he's not directly going after you. Launch can be our Nappa.

Next, let's look at Tien. Tien is, in a lot of ways, the opposite of Launch. He has a canon fighting style, he's generally one of the calmer characters, and he's been perfecting
his martial arts skills for a relatively long time, compared to her. He's a much more technical fighting than she is, although his physical strength is obviously still impressive.
The two techniques of his that have always stood out to me as his iconic, defining moves - aside from Kikoho - are the Four Witches technique, and the Multiform. Other characters
have used the latter, but no one has ever used the former aside from him. This shows that he favors moves which allow him to outnumber an opponent in some way, or at least
require them to turn their focus away from their intended target. Obviously, he also has the Solar Flare, but these two moves feel like they are uniquely Tien's, so I think
a fighting style which focuses on diversion or disorientation, coupled with moves designed to subdue an opponent as quickly as possible (the Crane school does train assassins,
after all) makes the most sense for him.

Yamcha's up next. He's already progressing in a fairly unique direction, compared to some of the others, so I won't spend as much time on him. What I will say, however, is that
I think the comparison between him and Amuro is one that has clearly resonated with him. in-character. Maybe having him train with someone who could help him progress with
his "newtype" powers would be a good idea. Either way, Yamcha is actually completely fine in this regard, for the time being.

Krillin is next. He's another technical fighter, though I'd say not to the extent that Tien is. Krillin has a lot of overlap with the other Turtle school students, even in canon DBZ, and aside from his Kienzan, he doesn't actually have anything that's uniquely his. Fortunately, what he does have is his new lack of baggage compared to canon. In addition, Krillin is just about the most tenacious person in canon Dragonball, aside from Goku. When he puts his mind to something, he sees it through. Even after Goku becomes as powerful as a god, and Krillin wants to just out and out retire because of how redundant he feels he's become, he ultimately doesn't, because it's his job to MAKE himself relevant. We can use that tenacity. I see him as someone who, no longer having to worry about being left behind by everyone, is able to develop some of his own techniques, based on a mix between the Turtle and Orin schools, instead of having to copy everyone else's techniques. That's ultimately what Krillin was: A marriage between two schools of fighting - the more selfish, "try-hard" Orin school, and the more relaxed, "zen" Turtle school. He's a character with a lot of internal conflict and contradiction, by design, and in a quest where he's matured past a lot of that,
I think having him harness some of that and turn it into something that can actually benefit him is the right direction to go in.

Next is Acer, and I think we all know where he should go: Masamune, possibly with a shield if that works well. Basically, the framework for what he should be doing is already
laid out. He's the swordsman, we're the punch-mage, and I think that's the right direction for things to go in.

Chi-Chi is a character I'm honestly not sure of. She's so different than she is in canon that it's difficult for me to pinpoint what she could focus on in order to become more
unique. So much of who she was has to be discarded because, after being introduced to Roshi and his training at such an early age, she's simply not the same character she is
in canon DBZ. She might need some more time before something pops out, but I'm absolutely open to suggestions for her, because right now, I'm stumped.

Finally, for now, there's Maple. Maple needs to break away from following in Goku's footsteps the most, I think. Instead of trying to pile on more and more "forms" to match Goku's raw power, she should focus on things he simply can't do. He can't use magic. She can. He doesn't have the same sort of spiritual affinity she does. For that matter, bring Trip into this for further spiritual training. Trip has some AWESOME things to teach us, and refining a fighting style that combines ki-based martial arts, Buddhist spiritual powers, and elemental magic is exactly what we should be doing. To be more specific, we need to specialize. We haven't yet, and that's why we've had to rely on
chasing after each new form that's dangled in front of our noses; the same goes for everyone, but Maple's hit the hardest by this, I think. We need to make ourselves a completely unique character in terms of fighting style, not just personality, and I think this is the way to do it.

So yeah. Those are my suggestions for now. I'm happy to hear any feedback you guys have, or ideas you might have, even if they totally contradict mine. By working all this out now, I think it'll open the door for more interesting fights, the potential for a wider variety of opponents and challenges, more sidequest opportunities, and just an overall more interesting quest.

Beautifully written. As for Chi-chi, since she's a demon hunter, she could be using a lot of anti-demon weaponry and gadgets such as her fan in a fight. In canon, we even see her equipping herself with an entire armory when she sets off to save her son from the Saiyans, so she could be the type to use lots of weapons in her fighting. Maybe she could replicate her helmet's ability to shoot lasers.

I'm of an opposite approach to this. Most of her skills seem to be more Ki-focused rather than melee. Sure melee is the bread and butter of combat, but I think she'd do better developing her Ki skills. Instead of her being more like a big, angry beatstick like Nappa, I'd liken her more towards being a "more competent" Saiyan/Namek saga Vegeta, better able to pound something into oblivion with Ki. Pretty sure she has the Tribeam too, which I bet you Namek saga Vegeta might have loved to pull out against Frieza. I say let her go all-out with the Ki blasts.

Shit, her or Krillin would be some of the best characters to learn the Spirit Bomb for, if that ever happens. Calm Launch could probably gather the energy, angry Launch could be the one to throw it and then give it whatever boost it needs (think the Super Spirit Bomb in Budokai 2/3/IW).

I like the sound of Chi-chi being the group's anti-demon specialist. Having her fight with a lot of weapons at once, or even having the ability to create spirit-weaponry using her ki would be awesome. She also seems to have the next-best spiritual potential, behind Trip and Maple, so that sort of role would make a lot of sense for her.

Launch going all-out with ki attacks could work, yeah. Honestly, the most important part of my idea was the focus on raw offense over complex technique, so whichever "side" of things she focuses on would fit that just fine.

As for the Spirit Bomb, it's worth noting that there's apparently a "what-if" scenario in one of the games where, after Goku dies from the heart virus, the dragon balls are used to wish him back for a day, and one of the things he does with his day is pass the Kaio-Ken and Spirit Bomb down to Krillin.

Well, we were suggesting working on some moves involving mixing knowledge with some of the others. Krillin seems like the sort who would find the most methods to try and hit above his weight class, seeing as how his best friend is a super powerful alien who keeps getting stronger and stronger. So perhaps his path is, as previously suggested, based on traits the destructo disc has. Namely, how it can be near impervious, the only time it ever showed damage being...what, Cell? But to bring up an idea from last thread (I think) imagine a defensive measure designed with similar traits. Or hell, maybe Krillin could become master of many arts, starting with Orin and Turtle, blending them into a cohesive entity before working to blend other styles into it as well. Also, what would happen if you tossed the destructo disc through an Amplify Gate?

We already use analogs to most of the electric attacks, though Electro Web tends to be a fun toy for group fighting. Maybe we could expand our nonelemental spells though, since there are a few useful things we have there. Like imagine if Maple began making illusions all over the place.
