I hear commotion outside the hardware store. Doors closing, another set of red and blue lights pulling up.

"O-Okay." I say, unease in my voice. "I-believe-you-let's-go."

"Right." Ken kicks the chair away and glares at Cirrus. "Hey, little girl. Gonna need you to either go back home or-"

"I'm trying to go home." Cirrus unhelpfully replies. "Masami has it!"

Ken'ichi pushes his glasses up his nose. "-Or stay near us. That works too. Come on."

He leads our group out yet another seemingly hidden side exit. We're back on the streets, now.
"If I'm correct, Marie will figure out where you are in a few minutes. We can use that time to get Aiko back."

"Aiko!? You know where she is?"
"Marie locked her nearby in a building. It's charmed so Kaori can't find her."

"W-why would she do that to Aiko!? To her own daughter!?"
"Because Aiko was going to tell you about Marie. She texted me earlier about it."

That witch! I hate Marie so much!
She's almost as bad as Asai!

"Is she safe!?"
"She's safe, but I think we can find what Marie was after faster from her than from Marie herself."

Ken has a point there, which is a surprisingly sharp observation from him.

He points to a building nested between two larger buildings which are under construction.
"There."
"Okay! Let's-"

"Don't." Ken holds my shoulder. "I don't know what kind of tricks Marie has done to this building. Remember Aiko's clothes? Remember the numbness?"

Oh right, charms are bad. Very bad.

"Y-you go on ahead." I say, waving off Ken'ichi in a totally calm and brave manner. "?I'll stay here and watch for anyone."

"Psh." He shrugs. "You're the boss."

He puts his hands in his pocket and walks toward the warehouse. I can't help but get a bad feeling from letting him go in there alone.

..Just in case, though; I'm gonna text Aiko.

My hands race across the tiles on the tiny, glowing screen.
"Aiko, Don't be alarmed, Ken is coming in to get you."

I put the phone back in my pocket and turn to Cirrus.

"No, seriously, how did you follow me?"
"You have home, it's in your pocket." Cirrus says, without a hint of sarcasm.

"Did you see anything on the way here, at least?"
"Lots of blue and red lights." She puts her finger on her mouth. "Oh, and yellow lights."

"No, I mean like- people. Did you see any people coming over?"

She seems confused once more.
"..I saw some green lights, too."

I rub my forehead and turn to the friendly monster.
"Did you see anyone on the way over? How are Kaori and my friends doing?"

"I did not see them, but I do know they texted Izumi."
"Oh thank god." I sigh, I was worried about leaving them alone in a big city swarming with people trying to find me.

Suddenly, my phone buzzes in my pocket.
It's Aiko.

"wher r u?" Are the words on-screen.

..Huh. That's-
"What do you mean? 'Where am I'?" I text back to her.

...Buzz.. buzz.

"wher r u?"

This will be the shortest CPM thread in a long time because I am getting constant and sudden power outages. It's part of why that last post took almost an hour to make.

Next post will have to be the last of the night, sadly. Hopefully power stays on long enough for me to type it.

Finally! A sign of life!

"Aiko! No kidding around! Where's Marie?! This is important!"

You're starting to worry.

You dismiss the text window and instead tap the tile for Mom's phone.
Ring..
Ring.
"Sweetie!?"
"Mom! I need help! Marie is looking for me and-"

"I know she is! What are you doing?!"

Uh, what?
"Mom! I'm trying to get Aiko back, what can I do?"
"Let me worry about Marie, but you need to get off the phone right now! Take out the battery and throw it in the gutter!"

"What?! Why-"
Click.

Mom! What was that supposed to be about?! Throw away the battery to my phone?
"Hey." I ask the big friendly monster. "Mom just told me to throw the battery of my phone away. Do you know why?"
"I'm afraid I don't." He shakes his head. "The.. workings of those little buzzing things are a mystery to me."

Huh, why would Mom of all people tell me to dismantle my phone?!

I-
Buzz... Buzz..
"wher r u?"

I need to go tell Ken right now what is going on. I don't like this one bit!

I take off toward the warehouse, just as a hand grabs my shoulder.

"You're not going in there, are you?" Cirrus asks, curiously.
"Of course I am!"
"Pries- Masami." The monster chimes up. "It's clear that entire building is trapped and Ken is the most apt to deal with it."
"But-! Something is really weird! I'm almost certain Marie planned for this, too!"

"I know she did. Which is why I was thinking."

The monster points toward a nearby fork-lift, left abandoned by the workers when the panic started.
"Plow that through the sheet-metal wall." The monster says without a hint of sarcasm. "If you encounter a charm, the machine should roll over it."

"I don't know how to drive! I still think cars run on magic!"
"Then it's time to start learning."

Cars do run on magic, right?

Yeah, it's time to wrap it up. Thankfully I did it before I lost power.

Thanks for the really short thread today. I'm going to try and start early Saturday like I did last week to make the most of the day. Look for it about the same time as last Saturday.
