Your hands move on your own. They reach for her waist and her smooth legs. Celeste yelps as she is forcefully hoisted into the air. You stand amidst a field of lush grass and falling petals, holding your not-bride in the traditional princess carry position. A soft gasp escapes from her throat. She stares deep into your eyes for a moment, as if mesmerized. You return the favor. Then reality kicks in and she starts flailing around.

“Takashi-kun, what are you doing?” she shrieks, her blush reaching tomato-red levels.

“I think this might be a trick of the dungeon or something.”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is all a trick. I might be dreaming right now. There’s no way this would happen otherwise.”

“It feels real to me! Now, put me down!” she cries, her voice taking on a pleading tone. “Please, Takashi-kun. This is really embarrassing!”

“I don’t know!” Celeste shouts. Then her voice softens. “Well…if I have to be honest, as a kid I always wondered why the adults wore white dresses at their weddings. Why doesn’t anyone wear a red dress? I think it would look better. I guess that's why the painting has me in one. It was beautiful, too...”

You fall silent, taking this bit of information in. It’s a new side of Celeste you haven’t experienced before. She cares about fashion more than she lets on, huh?

“Hang on, why am I telling you this? Put me down already! If you don’t, I’ll reduce you to ashes! I mean it!”

Celeste’s protesting eventually convinces you to put her down…

She stumbles on the spot, trying to give you a hateful glare. She fails, sighing instead. “I…just…never mind. Please don’t do that again, Takashi-kun.”

“Sorry, Celeste.”

“I’m too tired to feel angry at you.” She mumbles. “Let’s hurry up and get this over with…”

Since this is a dream, you feel inclined to push your luck as far as it go. “You looked like you enjoyed that.”

“No I didn’t!” Celeste snaps, rearing up. “Actually, I did a little bit…I’ve never been held like that before. It reminded me of a fairy tale I read as a little girl...Aah! I’m telling you too much again!”

You didn’t think it was possible, but Celeste’s blush is even more intense. Any further and her facial features would be buried beneath a sea of crimson.

"This is so stupid..." she moans.

Things are a little awkward now…no, hang on, no they aren’t. The atmosphere is, in fact, so utterly uncomfortable that the most charismatic man on the planet would break under the pressure. You help Celeste trudge down the path, beneath the arches and the novelty-sized rainbows. Another obstacles soon comes into a view. It is a large cathedral, constructed out of limestone and adorned with all manner of gothic spires, glass windows and domes. You and Celeste walk up to the massive, wooden double doors. They are decorated with silver inscriptions and patterns.

“I have a bad feeling about this…”

The announcer speaks again, his voice as welcome to Celeste as salt towards heavily-wounded soldiers on the battlefield.

“The long-awaited moment has come. The pair of lovers are finally about to enter. The last moment of hesitation has arrived before you experience the ultimate conclusion of love…Through your own free will, you decide to open the door, together!”

“This is going to be a trap behind this, I just know it.” You mutter. “We don’t have a choice, though.”

Gripping the brass handles, you fling the door open. The interior of the cathedral is revealed.

“W-wait!” Celeste cries. “It’s too early for this. I’m not ready yet! There’s supposed to be a proper procedure for these things.”

Her pleads fall on deaf ears. Before either of you know it, you are marching across a red carpet through the cathedral’s interior. The wooden pews are empty. Confetti descends from the ceilings, scattering across the floor. An invisible orchestra plays the famed wedding march. A brilliant light is shining through the glass windows. In the distance, a bell tolls, signalling the genesis.

“Let the ceremony begin!”

Suddenly, you’re standing at the altar. Not only that, you’re wearing the suit pictured in the painting from earlier. Celeste is in the same boat. Her regular vest, shirt and dress have been swapped out for the magnificent red dress. If Japanese dictionaries had pictures, Celeste’s current expression would be a perfect match for the word ‘shock’.

A voice beams down from the heavens.

Two small bands of gold float down from the sky. Your hands move out to touch one of them.

Maybe it’s the atmosphere or the way she’s shyly glancing at you, biting her lip and trying with all her spirit not to faint. It could be another twisted machination of whatever fiendish entity causing this dream. You can’t help yourself thinking like this, though. How did you not notice this earlier?

“Hereby, you are now husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride.”

The doors to the cathedral are flung wide open. You and Celeste freeze, your lips mere millimetres from grazing against each other. Everyone from the group before rushes in, like a stampede of rampaging buffalo. Shizuka is leading the pack, utter desperation present on her features. Kanami, Kanade and Takauji are in a group, the two girls’ grievances against each other replaced with concern. Kozue is riding atop Eriko Ozaki’s shoulders. Akikazu follows both, grumbling something about student councils and idiotic team members. Aria is just confused by it all, which perfectly mirrors you and Celeste’s moods. Kaz is smiling while Yoshino is doing her best not to be seen. Lastly, Fumika is at the rear end, striding towards the two of you while simultaneously tapping on her phone.

“See?” She says, her voice conveying her boredom. “I told you they’d be there.”

“Takashi!” Shizuka runs up to you and grabs you by the shoulders. “Are you alright.”

“Oh my.” Eriko comments, smiling at the view. “I think we are interrupting something.”

“Perhaps we should double back and pretend this never happened?” Kanami offers.

“It’s a little too late for that, president.” Kanade says. “Though, we should apologize to them afterwards.”

“Mister Akikazu, what is Mister Takashi and that woman doing?” Kozue asks.

“Don’t ask me!” Akikazu growls.

“Wow, Takashi!” Takauji grins, clapping. “Nice score, man!”

“I…I really think we shouldn’t be here.” Yoshino presses her fingers together.

“Nonsense!” Kaz laughs, holding up his phone. “This is prime drama material. Takashi, may I get a picture of the two of you?”

“Pretty…” Aria mumbles, gazing at Celeste. “Takashi, you look good too…”
