It's the day of the Chunin Exam's final round. You're excited to be able to watch it this time instead of having to compete. You wake up and head downstairs, eating breakfast with your uncle.

"Thanks again for all the help yesterday, Kon." he tells you. "Today'll be a lot slower what with most people at the match, so I can handle everything here. You just go and cheer on your friends."

After eating, you leave the restaurant and your uncle to his work.

You've got a bit over an hour before the matches actually get started, so you don't have to head to the stadium right away. You could meet up with somebody first and head to the match together. Or there might be enough time to get filled in on what happened last night.

You decide not to waste any time, and head straight to the stadium. If you go now, you'll beat the rush.

You make your way to the nostalgic location, and take it all in. Last time you were here, it was down in the center fighting. Now you're up in the stands looking down, and it's quite a different view.

You look around. Konohamaru and Ebisu are already here, and you see Kiba and his girlfriend as well. You see Jiraiya and Tsunade sitting up at the top of the stands. Nobody else from the Leaf you recognize is here yet.

Looking to the Kage box, you see all five of the Kage in their seats, surrounded by their attendants. You could probably talk your way into watching from up there.

Before you find a spot, you make your way up to the Kage box to say hello. There you see most everyone that attended the Kage summit. You notice that B isn't here, even though he was said to be. The Raikage and Kazekage are waiting in silence, while the Tsuchikage is chatting with Akatsuchi. The Mizukage seems to be staring in the direction of one of the Raikage's aides, ignoring Ao's attempt to talk to her.

You manage to get let into the box and make your way over to Neji and Itachi. The Hokage looks extremely tired for some reason.

"Just wanted to see how you were doing, Lord Itachi." you greet. "I hope you enjoy the matches."

"Yes, thank you." the Sixth responds. "Kon, I want to fill you in later. See me after the exams are over."

With a nod, you head back down near Konohamaru and Ebisu. You wave to Kiba, and he and his girlfriend move over to where you are.

"What's up, Kon?" Kiba asks. "Excited to see Sasuke stomp everyone?"

"I wouldn't be so sure." Ebisu remarks, adjusting his glasses. "If he decides to under estimate either of my students, he'll be in for a rude awakening."

"How is Udon and Moegi's progress?" you ask. "Are they ready to become Chunin?"

"Definitely!" Konohamaru pumps his fist. "They've been training super hard, so I know they can do it!"

"Neither of them showed a particular talent for a field." Ebisu begins. "While you might consider that a weakness, it can be an advantage. Versatility. Adaptability. By focusing on attaining competence in a wide range of disciplines, they have become ninja that can easily adjust themselves to suit any opponent. They have a high level of proficiency with the basic foundations. They're not flashy, but they have what it takes to become Chunin. I guarantee it."

"Well we'll see." Kiba responds. "That's all well and good, but they need a chance to show their skills. They can't do that if they get defeated by an opponent's overwhelming power. Though I don't think Sasuke would do that to them anyway."

It's getting closer to the match time. More people are filing in. You recognize most of your class is here to watch the exams.

From there, you decide to just wait until the exam begins. In a few minutes, the competitors are all out on the field. The proctor introduces himself as Aoba, and does the usual introduction. Then the competitors go back to the holding area, while the matchups get shown for the crowd.

Sasuke and Udon are in the same half of the bracket. If they both win, they'll have to face each other. More concerningly, Moegi is up against Gaara in her first match. Tough luck.

Aoba calls down the first two competitors.

Udon is participating in the first match. His opponent is a Genin from the Sand, a puppeteer. Though he doesn't look like he has anything on Kankuro.

You haven't actually seen Udon do much of anything before outside of getting bossed around by Konohamaru. You have to admit that he doesn't look very impressive. But who knows, he may surprise you. Ebisu and Konohamaru had quite the praise.

"Begin!" the proctor shouts, jumping back from the two competitors.

The Sand ninja moves his fingers about, directing his puppet forward. It's a fairly simple humanoid one similar to Kankuro's Crow, but you expect it has some hidden weapons on it at least.

Udon tosses some kunai past the puppet at the puppeteer, but he dodges deftly to the side all while bringing the puppet right up close to Udon. The puppet pops some hidden blades out of its wrists, forcing Udon to draw kunai to parry.

Udon clashes with the puppet for a while, trying to close the distance with the puppeteer, but to no avail. The puppet has more mobility, and keeps being used to block him off. Udon occasionally tries throwing another kunai in his direction, but none of them hit.

After a while, it looks like Udon has no options. He backs off from another clash, panting.

"Stop delaying the inevitable!" the Sand Genin calls. "Just let me finish you with this last attack! My poison dart!"

He makes his puppet lunge forward, jaw unhinging to reveal his secret weapon. The puppet draws close to Udon, but stops just short.

You see it. The puppet is tangled in a cross-hatching of wires from all the kunai Udon has thrown, pulled taught by its lunge. The puppeteer tries to free his puppet, but it's useless. Suddenly, the puppet jerks and turns toward its owner. It begins lumbering in his direction.

"What is this?" the frightened Genin asks. "That's my puppet, you can't do that!"

"I spent part of our free month studying to fight a puppet user." Udon explains. "That's not enough time to learn to manipulate things with chakra threads, but normal ones work just as well. In fact, since it's tangled up in them, these wires are the only way to move this puppet right now. Your chakra threads can't do anything."

Udon makes the puppet lunge towards its owner. He's no puppeteer, so the movements aren't complex, but they don't need to be. The Sand Genin's movement is hindered by the threaded kunai still about his side of the field. He can't dodge easily without getting tangled. Soon enough he's against the wall, his puppet's poison dart inches from his face.

"That's it, I give!" the Genin calls. "He wins, I'm out!"

The crowd cheers. Udon releases the wires and gathers his kunai before heading up to the box, his face red with embarrassment the whole time.

"Yeah, go Udon!" Konohamaru calls.

"That was pretty smart." you admit. "Though there were entirely too few explosions."

"It was pretty good." Kiba adds. "But Sasuke and Gaara are on a whole other level. I hope you trained 'em real good, Ebisu."

"I'm not going to lie." Ebisu replies. "I don't know if they can do it. But I prepared them to the best of my ability. It's all up too them now."

The next two matches go by fairly quickly. Sasuke is up next, and his opponent is a Stone Genin that uses Earth jutsu. He didn't stand a chance. A few lightning jutsu, Sasuke closes the gap, catches the guy in a genjutsu with his sharingan, and it's over. Sasuke didn't even get touched. The crowd goes wild, but you can't bring yourself to be too excited.

The next match is between a Mist and Cloud Genin. They both focus on swordsmanship, but after a fairly even battle, the Mist Genin wins out with a well timed Water jutsu on his opponent.

From there, it moves to the final match of the first round. Moegi vs. Gaara. The competitors make their way out to the field. Konohamaru and Ebisu both look extremely nervous.

You try to calm Konohamaru and his teacher down.

"Gaara won't do anything too bad." you insist. "He doesn't have the one tails in him anymore, so he won't be like last time. It still won't be easy for Moegi, though."

"I can only hope I can trust you at your word, Kon." Ebisu replies. "It would be all to easy for that Gaara to do something deplorable."

"I know exactly what you mean, but Kon's right." Kiba adds. "Gaara's not the same. At the very least, Moegi will get a safe chance to show her stuff."

You look back to the arena.

"First Round, Final Match!" Aoba calls. "Gaara vs. Moegi! Begin!"

The proctor jumps back away from the competitors. Some of Gaara's sand immediately reaches out for Moegi, who draws a kunai and slashes it away while retreating. As with most every other time you saw Gaara fight, he remains almost completely stationary.

You're not sure how Moegi plans on dealing with Gaara. You can't really do anything to him unless you manage to get him off guard with a big attack. But you keep watching anyway.

As the sand pushes Moegi closer to the edge of the arena, she pulls out a couple of smoke bombs and throws them at the ground. By the time the smoke clears, she's nowhere to be seen.

Gaara sends out his sand as a fine dust, searching for a sign of his opponent. He finds a spot on the ground that the sand can't reach. Something is in the way, camouflaged. He reaches a tendril of sand out and strikes at the object, which disperses in a puff of smoke. It was a clone, transformed to lie flat along the ground with the same appearance. When the sand hit you thought you saw a splash. There seems to have been something under the clone. A bag filled with some kind of liquid.

Gaara goes back to searching for Moegi. He eventually finds issue with the tree in the arena and lashes out at it. One of the branches disappears in a puff of smoke, and Moegi retreats before she's hit.

Now she's in the open.

Moegi starts running around, throwing shuriken in Gaara's direction while avoiding attacks from his sand. None of them come close to hurting him, as he just blocks them as usual with his sand shield.

Eventually Moegi seems to be getting tired, but suddenly her eyes perk up. She draws a handful of shuriken and throws it, prompting Gaara to block. Then immidiately after, she throws a kunai. this one with an explosive tag on the end.

As Gaara waits behind his sand, he sniffs.

"This smell, in the sand..." his eyes go wide as the tagged kunai hits his shield. "Oil?"

There's a huge explosion. Moegi dashes forward, kunai outstretched, and stabs toward Gaara.

Her attack is stopped. Gaara has her entire arm enveloped in sand. When the smoke from the explosion clears, you can see Gaara's sand armor reforming itself, having been destroyed in the explosion.

"That was pretty good." Gaara tells her. "Not quite a big enough explosion, but more oil and that could have done me in. You had to keep careful watch of my sand to pull that off. I'm impressed."

Gaara has Moegi pinned to the ground with his sand, and Aoba calls it.

"The winner is Gaara!"

The crowd cheers, and Gaara lets Moegi go. The two of them head back up to the box, Moegi looking disappointed. Her teammate and teacher beside you share the sentiment.

Next up is Sasuke vs. Udon. Both of them walk out into the arena and face each other.

"Man, this is something." Kiba groans. "I mean, I want Sasuke to win of course, but this is just mean. Udon doesn't deserve this."

"Don't count him out just yet, Kiba." Konohamaru speaks up. "Udon is crazy smart. He always knows the best thing to do. He can come up with a way to fight Sasuke, I know it. What do you think, bro?"

Konohamaru looks at you expectantly.

You can't in good conscience really tell Konohamaru that Udon could win. Sasuke easily far outstrips any Genin even without Sage Mode or his Mangekyo abilities. You can only expect Udon to put up the best fight he can.

"I think they'll both make a good showing." you tell him. "Sasuke is easily Jonin level, but most of his most powerful moves can't be used in matches like this. If Udon can exploit that, he might pull something off. Even if he loses, if Udon can put up a good fight against Sasuke, he should get nominated for promotion."

"I know Sasuke is crazy strong, but Udon is good too." Konohamaru goes on. "Just watch. You'll see what Ebisu Sensei and I mean."

Down in the arena, the match is set to start.

"Second Round, First match!" Aoba calls. "Sasuke vs. Udon, begin!"

The proctor jumps back, as Sasuke and Udon take fighting stances. Looking closely, you feel like there's something weird about Udon's glasses.

Sasuke launches a Fireball Jutsu, forcing Udon to dodge. As he jumps away, Udon tosses a volley of shuriken, which are easily deflected by Sasuke.

Sasuke tries to draw closer, but Udon throws another volley, this time preparing some hand seals.

"Konohamaru taught me this one. And he learned it from his grandpa, the Third Hokage!" Udon shouts. "Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

Udon's handful of shuriken multiplies to dozens, forcing Sasuke to take evasive maneuvers. Even with the sharingan active, he still gets clipped by quite a few of them.

"No way!" you hear Ebisu yell. "It's not a perfect replication like Konohamaru's, but that jutsu should be far above his level!"

"Yeah, go Udon!" Konohamaru cheers. "You can do it!"

After the shower of shuriken, Sasuke looks like he wants to keep this from dragging any longer. He rushes towards Udon and the two lock kunai. Sasuke is trying to catch Udon's eyes, while Udon is trying to hold his own keeping his gaze away.

Fighting like this is wearing Udon out, and he breaks away to catch his breath. Sasuke dives in to attack again, but Udon throws something down between them. When it hits the ground, it explodes and releases a cloud of gas. It envelops both of the competitors before they jump back out of it. Udon looks fine, but Sasuke seems to be in pain.

"Agh! What is this?" Sasuke asks, struggling to keep his eyes open. "What did you do to my eyes?"

"Sorry, Sasuke." Udon apologizes. "I can't beat the sharingan, so I prepared this gas in advance. I knew it would be my only chance."

Udon throws more shuriken, and performs another Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu. This time, Sasuke's eyes have a hard time catching them, and he's hit all over.

"Gah!" Sasuke cries out in pain again. "I didn't think you'd push me this far, Udon. But I guess I don't have a choice."

You see Sasuke disappear and appear behind Udon, his eyes ringed by the orange tone of Sage Mode. With that, he doesn't have to see where his enemy is, he can sense them. You get the feeling Sasuke himself is going to consider this a loss, though.

Sasuke hits Udon on the back of his head, knocking him to the ground. While he's there, Sasuke pins him.

"The winner is Sasuke!" Aoba calls.

Sasuke lets Udon up. "I don't like that trick you pulled. But I have to admit, it was smart."

The two of them return to the box.

"Man, he totally would have had him too!" Konohamaru whines. "But he had to go and use Sage Mode."

"Indeed." Ebisu adds. "He goes above and beyond expectations, and it still isn't enough."

You understand Konohamaru's disappointment. Both of his teammates are out of the competition now, after all. You try and cheer him up.

"The fact that he had to use Sage Mode makes Udon pretty impressive." you tell Konohamaru. "That's the kind of thing you reserve for S class threats. Udon is definitely going to get that promotion.

"Yeah, I guess he did pretty good." Konohamaru replies. "I wanted him to win, though. But I guess Sasuke will have to pull through for the Leaf."

"Now that's what I like to hear!" Kiba adds. "The rematch all of us have been waiting for is coming up!"

The next fight goes by fairly quickly as well. The Mist Genin tries to use water jutsu to slow down Gaara's sand, but Gaara starts to use some tricky maneuvers, moving his sand stealthily across the ground unnoticed, while distracting the genin with regular attacks. Soon enough, the Mist Genin is caught and immobilized, and Gaara moves on to the finals.

As Sasuke and Gaara face each other in the arena, you can barely hear Aoba over the roar of the crowd. This is the match they all came here to see. The continuation of their fight from four years ago. Though very few people here know that Gaara was dead for over three of them. You can't imagine Sasuke losing after as strong as he's gotten.

"What do you think, Kon?" Kiba turns up to you. "How fast are we looking at Sasuke winning? Five minutes? Three?"

You know firsthand how strong Sasuke is, but you still don't think it's good to underestimate Gaara.

"I don't think Gaara will go down quite that easily." you tell Kiba. "This may take longer than you expect."

"Well, he'll just be wasting his time." Kiba replies. "no matter what he does, there's no way he can match Sasuke. Dude is scary strong."

Down in the arena, the match has begun. Sasuke instantly tries for a chidori, coating his hand in lightning, the familiar sound filling the stadium, barely discernible over the crowd's screams.

As Sasuke rushes forward, Gaara's sand forms to protect him, but it's different than usual. Instead of forming a dome or wall like before, it takes the the shape of a woman, her hands blocking the attack. Where Sasuke's chidori pierced before, this time he is stopped in his tracks.

"My mother's will is in this sand." Gaara explains. "It was her protecting me this whole time. I only learned this after I came back to life."

Sasuke stops his attack and jumps back.

"To make up for last time, and all the things I did before, I'll make sure to give you a real fight, Sasuke Uchiha." Gaara tells him, lifting himself into the air on a platform of his sand. "I'd hate to disappoint."

Gaara sends wave after wave of sand in Sasuke's direction, Sasuke dodging and returning fire when he can. You feel like he could end it with Sage Mode or Mangekyo, but is too stubborn. Like this, things could drag on.

The two of them exchange attacks for quite a while, neither of them hitting home. Eventually Sasuke starts showing signs of fatigue. Gaara is tiring as well. He comes down to the ground, presumably to conserve chakra.

Both of them are tired. The longer they drag this out, the more their attacks will peter out. Sasuke begins charging a chidori. It seems like he wants to end this in one more attack. Gaara seems to oblige. He gathers all his sand in front of him.

"Sand Tsunami!"

A huge wave of sand rushes forward toward Sasuke. He doesn't flinch. In his hand, in the midst of his Chidori, you see a swirling. You check to make sure, and sure enough, Sasuke isn't in Sage Mode right now. Yet he's forming a Rasengan in the same hand as his Chidori.

Sasuke dashes forward, the swirling torrent of lightning in his hand.

"Lightning Release: Rasenkiri! Spiral Cutter!"

The attack hits the wave of sand head on, blasting it apart. Sasuke goes right through it. His hand stops just short of Gaara's face, the lightning almost touching him.

Gaara kneels down and exhales heavily.

"You win, Sasuke."

The crowd goes wild.

"Yeah, that's my student right there!" you hear Jiraiya from up above. "Look at that move! Now that's a jutsu!"

Everyone is ecstatic.

"Well, that was a better fight than I thought." Kiba remarks. "In fact, it was probably cooler than any of our Chunin Exam fights. But that's not the important thing. The question is who will be promoted. Sasuke just muscled his way through all his fights. They might actually keep him a Genin. Can you imagine?"

Now, if I were in that arena with him, forcing him to think and come up with new avenues of attack, we might see him doing things completely differently.

"I hope you all enjoyed the show." you look to the far wall. On top of it is a familiar masked man. The man claiming to be Madara. "But now, I'm going to be needing your attention. I will now tell you all about Akatsuki's ultimate goal. About how we will bring about world peace."

Everyone is listening intently. Even the Five Kage aren't making a move.

"I am Madara Uchiha." the masked man says. "And I am the leader of Akatsuki. We are gathering the tailed beasts in order to combine them all into one. The Ten Tailed Beast. By becoming the Jinchuuriki of the Ten Tails, I will be able to achieve my Moon's Eye Plan. I will cast a genjutsu off the moon, effecting every being on Earth. Putting them into the Eternal Dream World. The Infinite Tsukuyomi. A world where all your desires can come true."

There's a lot of muttering in the crowd.

"In this world, there will always be suffering." Madara goes on. "People's happiness will come at the expense of others. In the end, the weak will never fulfill their desires. They will be trampled by the will of the strong. And further still, in this world you can lose things that are precious to you. Opportunities will pass you by, never to return. Loved ones will be lost, never to be seen again. There are even those that never get to meet loved ones at all. What hope is there for them in this world? In the Infinite Tsukuyomi, the impossible can be achieved."

With that, the man disappears in the same manner as before. Everyone in the stadium is still stunned. You go into Sage Mode to check, but the man is gone.

From what Lord Jiraiya said, they were zealous in their support for Pain. Madara is probably building off of that. Any attempt to reason with them would likely be met with resistance far too great. We may have no choice in regards to them."

You look around the box. All Five Kage are here. This could be the only chance you get.

"All the Kage need to ally now!" you shout. "At the very least, until Akatsuki is dealt with. We can't allow Madara to do as he pleases!"

"Heh. I don't like Madara acting so high and mighty, myself." the Tsuchikage chuckles. "Strange as it may seem, I would support such an alliance."

"Even the fence sitter, huh?" the Raikage scoffs. "Madara plans to march on the Cloud. I will gladly ally with anyone willing to help."

"Excellent." Itachi speaks up. "I will of course support an alliance of shinobi. Kazekage?"

"The Sand will also ally." Rasa replies. "We have no choice but to stand together at this time."

Everyone looks to the Mizukage.

"I guess I can't say no. For a number of reasons." Mei sighs. "We can just get everything else resolved after Madara is dealt with, I suppose."

"Then it is done." the Tsuchikage stands up. "We have officially formed: The Allied Shinobi Forces!"
