>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

Your resolve strengthened, you run back to the central room, Fairy Rod in hand. Making a detour to check out the unlocked room you ignored previously to complete the trials. Retrieving another fairy, you go over what you've been through since you entered the Great Fairy Temple.

Learning of the previous Heroes, glancing at the history of Hyrule, and discovering the terrible mistake your father made. Still, you came this far. You refuse to back down now. For starters, you decide to practice a bit with the Fairy Rod before moving on. You try focusing again towards the scouting function, seeing its limits. You can move virtually freely throughout the room, but influence seems to fade when you attempt to leave it. The missile function is next, with you testing a few shots of it and learning some interesting things. The range is long, going from almost one end of the room to the other, and the empowered fairies do not seem to lose any of the accumulated destructive potential, though there's a cutoff point where the fairy seems to "detonate" like a bomb. Still surprising that it doesn't seem to hurt them in the slightest, but you're not going to turn down such a useful feature.

With that all done, now you have a choice. There's a further room to explore to the west, or you could continue north to where you suspect the source of the Great Fairy's troubles resides. What should you do?

Well, seems there might be something interesting on your map to the west, so that's where you'll be headed next! Unlocking the door with one of the keys, you're startled when you enter by the sounds of two Deku Babas on either side of the entrance. You immediately roll out of the way and prepare for a fight, but you then realize that they aren't really moving. They're all withered and old, not really a threat to you right now. You stand and look around the area, two more fairies present.

Upon retrieving them, though, you're reminded that the Fairy Rod can only contain ten at a time, the last new fairy sulkingly floating into your lantern. Lastly there seem to be three blocks in a diagonal line in the way of another section of the room, and while you can't really climb over them all that well, jumping up reveals there's a chest behind them. You might be able to move the blocks out of the way if you pull hard enough on one of them...

Just to make sure they won't be any trouble, you quickly bolt over to the Deku Babas at the entrance and, with a quick spin, easily slice through them both. You sheath your sword stylishly as the creatures leave behind... eh, that was to be expected. Pair of green Rupees.

Next up, the puzzle is simple enough. With a forceful tug you pull away the middle block and get to the treasure at the back. You open it up, and...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VRr9NG7RE0

You got the [Keaton Mask]!

...wait, a Keaton mask? Huh? The fairies themselves are surprised by this, one mentioning that they swear the treasure in it is supposed to be different. A sudden ruffling can be heard in the distance, then a soft chuckle. It seems to be above you, somewhere, but not exactly sure how, where, or why it's there.

Okay, whatever it is, it's not outsmarting you. You quickly take up the Fairy Rod, following the sounds carefully, silently. Heading through a crack in the ceiling with your mind linked to the Fairy, you see something move through the top of the temple almost as swiftly as it does silently, a yellow blur. Rustling leaves try to distract you as you get close, but you do notice it seems to have... hey, wait a second! That's a Piece of Heart!

It eventually vanishes completely, but seems to have noticed you, a voice echoing out, "Hee-hee-ho! Hello, child. Quite the wits you have. Do not fret, I am merely... moving it, to a more fitting location. It's no fun if she makes it too easy now, is it?"

You finally let the connection go, scratching your head. Well, that was something. Seems whatever it was headed to a second story area, and there is one on your map, but there's also a basement one... hmm...

As you head into the next room, you're confronted by a rather large door, blocked off with two larger-than-normal key locks. Interesting, guess that's your eventual goal, but you'll need the keys for it first. You head down to the lower level, taking careful steps as you realize you aren't alone down there. The large area is blander and darker than the temple grounds above, but there's enough light down there for you to see well enough.

And you're immediately greeted by two plant-like creatures, hopping around the area in a pattern. They haven't noticed you yet, but they don't seem friendly.

Timing your actions carefully, you dash past the hopping Snap Dragons, your footsteps alerting them that something's there, but your careful maneuvering keeping you out of harm's way. They don't know you've made it past them, and scramble around to try and find you, only to be left far behind as you head to the door at the end of the room.

Opening the door, you spot one more fairy, explaining you know the situation before she can even comment on your arrival. She too heads into your lantern. You open the chest in the room, and... oh score! A Red Rupee!

[141 Rupees]

You turn back. Those monsters are still in the next room, and the map says there's something else here, but you didn't quite see the entrance where you thought it might be, perhaps...

You move like lightning as you dash out of the room. Carefully observing your foes' movements, you line things up with the Fairy Rod, and blast out a pair at the two Snap Dragons. It seems to be a bit overkill, as the bolting fairies impact the monsters with such force that the two of them are caught up in the initial explosion, the second one being more than enough to finish them off.

You and the returning two fairies do a little victory cheer as a path is opened in the middle of the room, a wall sliding down to reveal another door. Inside, yet one more fairy, and a chest. You open it up to find...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VRr9NG7RE0

...a [Boss Key]! One of the pair!

You take a deep breath. Almost through with all this. Some of the fairies circle around you. "You've done great, Princess. Thank you again for all the extra effort you've put into this."

You dust off your poncho a bit and nod. "Thank you as well, for all the help in spite of your... situation. And, er, being ammo for this thing." You take a look at the Fairy Rod again. "Still a bit strange that you can do something like this."

"Ah, it's no problem, Princess. Though... uh... hrm." The fairy turns away, contemplating something. "Ah, there was something else about it that we had in store for you, but we can't quite recall what it was..."

Curious, but you can't stop now. You're on a roll! You dash back up the room, and on into the second story room. Inside it's far more... open, oddly enough. You step forward, only for bars to jet out from the floor, sealing your exit. You then hear a rumbling sound above you, something big is moving up there. You look up... uh-oh.

"Princess, here it comes!"

You bring up your wooden shield, this is gonna be close! Carefully bracing yourself for the incoming hit, you let your shield take what punishment it can, then quickly roll out of the way, dodging the spinning, razor-sharp leaves of the Peahat, letting it crash into the wall.

As it does so, you take aim with the fairy road and let out a yell as you blast the monster with it, scoring a critical injury to the creature as the fairy blasts at the creature's roots. It's clearly wounded, but not out just yet. Still, you've put some good distance between it and yourself, and have avoided any major injury so far. Better get ready to finish it, though, it's still ready for a fight.

You store the Fairy Rod and pull out your crossbow, taking steady aim. The Peahat comes dangerously close to you, but with your sights lined up, finally you manage to strike the monster and take it down for good. The creature veers away from you and spins towards the center of the room, finally vanishing in a burst of blackened smoke. As it clears... oh wow!

You got a [Piece of Heart]! So that's where it ended up.

You feel strengthened slightly as you take it, and then check out the back of the room, a section near the staircase you came in through, spotting one more fairy. That's 14 in total, almost there. And finally, at the opposite side of the room, there's a chest. Inside, you find... the second [Boss Key]!

"...hold that thought." you request, thinking about the situation. You quickly slip on the Keaton Mask you got and look around. You seem to see... a circle of grass that definitely wasn't there before. As you approach it the grass suddenly... moves! On its own! Instinct seems to take over as you spin a slash around the grass as quickly as you can take the sword out of its sheath, backing away as the grass blades merge together, and then in a puff of smoke...

"Hee-hee-ho! Hello, child. Most impressive. You defeated that without a scratch on you, and even managed to figure out how to get me to greet you properly. Such a clever girl, but I suspect it should be expected of any Princess Zelda." the yellow, three-tailed Keaton fox says in an almost chuckling voice.

"W-what..." You back up slightly. You... you've seen one of them before, when you were very young, but to think they're still around. The fairies look at the creature curiously, floating around you. "So, you're the one who moved that treasure. But why? Was this some kind of test as well?"

It laughs softly at your question. "But of course. You're quite good at figuring these things out, Princess. We Keaton have been... observing your people for quite some time now. Ever since that young boy, many ages ago, journeyed on to become a hero who crossed time itself. But now, it seems more than ever whatever heroes show up here will need our help. Just like in our old home. Someone to give a gentle push in the right direction, perhaps more, when needed." Its three tails alternate a wave between them, up and down as it approaches you, the fox seeming far bigger than it was a moment before. "I shall give you a couple things before I depart, Princess. Words of advice."

You respectfully nod towards it. "And I shall listen."

Another soft little laugh. "First, what you suspect is true, the final fairy is in the room ahead. The creature who caused this... issue is there as well. The heads are a danger to you, but also itself; you can strike best when they are at their limits. Second, as you suspect, the dream you had yesterday is indeed prophetic. But do you think you really have to go along on this journey alone?" The Keaton darts away, vanishing slowly. "I hope you consider that, for when we meet again. Keep that mask handy."

The Keaton finally gone, the fairies look to you and give a combined shrug. Well... helpful. Strange, but helpful.

"Was what the Keaton said true, did you notice if the creature had that kind of weakness?" you ask the fairies.

"Well... we recall something similar, but it seems the one with the best memories of the monster is... in that room. Oh no." the other fairies seem to almost panic.

"All the more reason to take it out, then!" You head down to the main floor one last time, fairies gathered around you as you take both of the keys and unlock the door ahead. As the lock is pulled away, they slide open with a loud "THUNK," and you dash right on in. At first the room is quiet, dark, eerie, a soft mist on the floor. The closer you move into the room, the more and more clear it becomes that there's something in there with you.

Something big.

You move around one of a set of walls you recognize from the map... and almost right into the jaws of the beast. It snaps at you just a moment too slowly, letting you backflip away from it. The creature makes its presence known, loud and clear. You gulp slightly as you see the titanic form of the monstrous plant. Four heads connected to a central body, like an overgrown, mutated Deku Baba...

Okay, you got all you needed to handle this, let's put it into action. You have the heads of the monster follow you around, coming close to cornering you one time, but you manage to dodge out of it and cause two of them to smash into each other as they come for you. As you force each of the heads to be stretched to their limits around the inner walls, you carefully take aim with the Fairy Rod, aaaaand...

BAM! One slams at a head of the plant, severing it from the main body, the other heads shrieking in pain as you quickly make sure to finish off the first detached one. The monster roars in anger and tries for another round, though with only three heads, this might be even easier now...

>A. Same strategy as before! See if you can blast two of the heads when they're stretched to their limits!

All right Zelda, keep this up, you can do it! With the three heads now having a harder time reaching you, you almost taunt the monster by moving towards it in the direction of the missing head after tricking one on each side to try and follow you around the inner walls. Keeping at just the right distance, you bring the Fairy Rod out and blast the two heads at the stem, disconnecting them as well.

As the monster shrieks in agony, the final head sinks back into the body, turtling away from you. You move around and try to see if you can force it out, but the thing doesn't budge. However, moving away from it lets it loosen its guard slightly, and it seems to try to follow the fairies with you as well.

Wait a second...

>A. Try to use the Fairy Rod to trick it into following a fairy, then get rid of the final head!

Okay Zelda, plan this out. You move behind one of the inner walls, out of the creature's view. Then, using the Fairy Rod, you gaze into the wings of it and link with one of the fairies, flying out at the creature. It follows the fairy curiously at first, but that curiosity soon shows its true intentions as it tries to snap at it. As best as you can, you and the fairy move away from it, the monster's jaws growing ever closer, zig-zagging to make sure it doesn't chomp down on her.

The very moment it's stretched its neck stem to its limit, you release the connection between yourself and the fairy and bolt at the creature as fast as you can. "HrrraaaaaaAAAAAHHH!" with blade out, you quickly jump at the creature and slash down right at the stem with all your might.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HD87Ixy9p8

The head falls to the ground, the body... it seems like it collapses in on itself, finally vanishing in a blast of darkened smoke. As the smoke fades, the final fairy is revealed, and with it...

You got a [Heart Container]! You heart count increased by one!

You take a deep breath, feeling invigorated. The final fairy floats towards you. "Thank you, Princess, you have done even more than was asked of you, completing our trials and pushing on in spite of learning of your father's terrible fate." Slowly it starts to move away. "Please, to the Temple Fountain so we... I... can properly thank you for your efforts."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJAIh_gB2hs

As you walk back with the Fairies, you approach a fountain area. All 15 of them leave you and gather around the fountain, swirling together and reforming in a flash of light into an exceptionally tall, slender, beautiful woman dressed in light green robes. She smiles at you as she opens her eyes. "Princess Zelda Hyrule. Thank you again. To receive the proper reward, please, hold out the Fairy Rod."

You do as she asks, and in a brilliant green flash she changes the item... into a Deku Stick. "...uh." you verbalize, but before you can say anything else, you feel power surge into your body, tremendous power, lifting you up off the ground for a moment. You feel that same warm sensation on your left hand again as you float back down. Your mind is filled with arcane... it's hard to describe it, really, almost like equations, almost like music, harmonizing into one coherent whole. You've gained [Magic].

(cont.)
>>
>>45570816
But that's not all. You've gained something else... a Spell, of some sort. The Great Fairy approaches you. "By completing your trials, you have been blessed with my gift of Magic, as well as the [Fairy] spell. It behaves similar to that little trick you were using throughout the Temple, though its effect can extend beyond the bounds of my Temple. Furthermore, you can use it to call other fairies towards you. However, it can only allow you five, instead of the ten you were able to contain within the Fairy Rod." As she moves closer, it's clear she's maybe two, two and a half times taller than you are, an ethereal, but calming presence about her. She kneels down to speak to you face to face. "I know you have many more questions. Ask, and I shall answer."

>A. Ganon, what do you know about him? What should we be doing?

You calmly think over how you want to ask all of the questions you have. Well... might as well start with the obvious one. "Great Fairy of Magic, can you tell me more about this gift you have granted me with? I feel like I can almost do more with it, but... nothing quite yet."

"There are others out there who can teach you great skills with Magic. My sisters, servants of some of Din, Nayru, and Farore's gifts, have powerful spells that will be of great assistance to you on your journey, located near the homes of the Gorons, Zora, and Hylians of Faron. A fellow sister of mine also resides close to Castle Town, with a different gift you may be able to learn. Furthermore, certain sword fighters have been able to tap into the potential of Magic to enhance their blades, while certain blacksmiths have put magical skill into armors." she responds in a sweet, calming voice. "You have potential few could even dream of, I have merely unlocked part of it for you, Princess."

"And I am grateful for that, Great Fairy of Magic." you reply with a humble bow. "Now... Ganon. What do you know of him, what should we do to prepare?"

She looks down sadly, shaking her head. "Ganon's presence can be felt throughout Hyrule, a phantom looming over the entire area, and perhaps beyond. His return is certain, and the monsters can feel it. They're drawn to it, empowered by it. Who is doing so is unknown; there is someone certainly here, but such a presence... it hasn't been felt in Hyrule for a long time. You must gather your strength, and perhaps like the Keaton said, the strength of others, to stop any further chaos."

You nod in affirmation with her. "Then I shall do what I can to prepare. Now... Great Fairy, what can you tell me of my father? And of the... previous Hero in Green?"

(cont.)
>>
>>45571633
She sighs out softly. "...he made a mistake that cost him his sanity. His Kingdom. His life. He wanted to do good, but those intentions to spare his Kingdom from a potential threat threw him into a black abyss where there is no escape. One of us tried to warn him, but he refused to listen."

She then smiles gently. "The hero... he was different, though. He was born the same day that the Gerudo boy was, to a family in the Hylian Knights. He was a courageous soul, determined to help those in need. He gained fame not in Hyrule originally, but in a land to the east, stopping the wizard Gwonam from bringing a powerful demon to the surface, reforming him of his former ways. He... returned to Hyrule the day of the coup. Knowing nothing of the King's corruption. All he knew, all he could know, is that you, Princess, must be protected at any cost."

You feel a tinge of guilt as the Great Fairy tells you this. But you won't let that sacrifice be in vain. Still... "Great Fairy... will... will there be another Hero?"

She stands slowly. "Only time will tell, Princess. If there is one, he... or she, has not made their presence known. But you should not dwell on if there will be one to return. Instead, make sure that if there is another Hero, they will have people ready and willing to help save Hyrule along with them when the call comes."

You can't help but smile. "I will do everything I can to make that a reality."

As you say your farewells to the Great Fairy, you walk out of the Temple, back to see Impa and Madas waiting for you. The moment you lock eyes with your attendant, she seems to pick up on what happened. There's an awkward silence between you two preventing Madas from giving you the congratulatory high-five he very clearly wants to give you. You wait for Impa to say it first. "...I was ashamed I couldn't have stopped him. It's... my greatest failure, as a member of the Sheikah, that I couldn't protect those I was sworn to protect. Even from themselves. When we finally knew of his true intentions, it was too late."

You look to her calmly. "So that's why you avoided bringing it up to me for so long." Glancing at the slightly confused Madas, you can't leave the man hanging, and high-five him.

"Well, Princess! You've made it through these trials and already seem like you've matured quite a bit in just a short time." He pats you on the shoulder. "And she was worried you weren't ready..."

"I shall admit it was not the easiest thing I've done, but... I'm glad I underwent it." you respond in a humbled voice.

Madas crosses his arms and nods. "Good, good. Well ladies, I know when there's a 'family only' conversation coming, so you'll know where to find me if you need me!"

Once he's out of earshot, you and Impa look at each other quietly again, deciding to walk along slowly out of the forest. You start by telling her of everything you learned, of Ganon's imminent return, and your resolve to save Hyrule from the menace. Impa... to say she's uncomfortable with the idea would be the understatement of the year. But she accepts your choice. "I... I too have a task I must complete. Princess, starting tomorrow, our paths will split. I must go to the Shadow Temple to prepare something, but you... you may choose to go where you wish. I put my trust in you, to become the Zelda that Hyrule needs."

"I will not betray that trust, Impa." You look in the direction of the Castle, barely visible in the distance. You unsheathe your blade and raise it to the sky, proclaiming in a determined voice, "I WILL save Hyrule!"

Always boss, will we ever get to use/see Impa's giant sword?
>>
>>45572200
I do have a question, actually: Back during the Peahat fight, I suggested this.

>>45566647

Is this sort of thing alright within the confines of the current system? This sort of "if-then" thing where our choices of our latter actions can hinge on the success or failure of our former ones? It didn't win, so it doesn't matter in this case, but if we're allowed to do that, it could be really interesting for later. Then again, it could also make for some additional work for you, so it's understandable if you'd rather not do it that way. I'd just like to know for sure.
>>
>>45572220
Tuffle Quest just needs some reformation or something. It'll get better.
>>
>>45572200
I'm having a great time so far! Not sure if we're supposed to be taking the place of the Hero, or if the game isn't that meta focused or what. But its certainly fun and well run
>>
>>45572220
>>45572297
>>45572325
Well, thanks! I will say that as I've been working out the details for this, I've also still kinda been fleshing out the notes on Tuffle Quest when I can. I still plan on continuing it next month, but hopefully I'll have time for both of these Quests. Really glad people are enjoying it.

And as for your question, I can probably have you start off on that next thread. Current plan may involve a potential Gerudo ally, actually...

>>45572313
Potentially, sure, depending on the path you take.

>>45572324
I might be able to work with something like that. Though how things are set up now, I can still have you go through with the other steps if they succeed, though you being damaged if you can't get to cover or fail a dodge.

>>45572329
I'll say this, my intention is not to have Zelda "become Link." You may end up taking on some of the traits of a Hero in Green, but you'll have opportunities unique to yourself, different objectives, and other things. At least four other major allies have been planned. I may have hinted at one already in-thread.

And some questions for you anons as well: what did you think of the Fairy Wand actually becoming a Spell that you can use on your own?

Also, how do you feel about Iron Knuckles?
>>
>>45572325
Oh, I agree. I do like Tuffle Quest. I just think this is a much more interesting setting with a far better system for rolling and combat, in general.

Tuffle Quest has also sort of fallen into the trap that I think a lot of "retelling of the original, with a twist" stories or fanfictions tend to, which is that the people making the decisions for the main character are "smarter" than the original cast, since they already know what's going to happen and which characters are going to be good or bad. It's why the Z-Fighters have literally the entire world - minus Gero - on their side, and why they were so over-prepared for any challenge that didn't essentially "cheat" their power levels high enough to compete with a Goku who went super saiyan during Dragonball. And it's not as though getting to that point was nonsensical. In context, the progression to the point it's at made sense. It's just that this is what inevitably happens in any story of this type. It's subtle metagaming that really can't be avoided unless either the players know next to nothing about the series going in, or the QM basically just changes everything up.

That's why I'm more a fan of the setup we've got with Zelda: The setting itself is familiar, but nothing is exactly as it was in any of the games themselves, which means the latter has already happened, so we're not likely to run into the same problem.

Iron Knuckles are rad. Also, the Fairy Wand was a surprisingly cool and versatile item; exactly the sort of thing Zelda would have as a spell. It fits really well.

I'm also very glad to hear that we're going on a different path than "becoming Link". Getting a chance to carve out a more unique name for Zelda is much more interesting.

>I might be able to work with something like that. Though how things are set up now, I can still have you go through with the other steps if they succeed, though you being damaged if you can't get to cover or fail a dodge.

Sounds fair to me. Thanks.

I do hope that Turles and Slug manage to change things up just a bit for y'all when we get back to it. Both are far, far stronger than Vegeta, and have some things to themselves to make this "invasion" shake things up a bit better. I'm still working on fleshing some things out for later, and I must say that the break has helped quite a bit in getting that done, at least (coupled with work not being as exhausting).

Glad to hear that y'all are up for that. It's not that I won't let you be a courageous Zelda, or even a strong one in some regard, but I'd like the opportunity to explore different things than Link does, face different situations.

I'll note that not all Spells you can learn will be acquired the same way you got [Fairy], so as to not make things repeat ad nauseum.

We're going to have allies, and we can communicate with other people in a language that isn't comprised entirely of grunts and yells. I'd say this is already plenty different than Link's typical adventure.

That's Romani's mount, Anon.

...ignore the QM writing things down. These are... most certainly not me plotting out things related to this idea. Probably. Possibly.

Keaton would be a pretty good mount idea. It's already been established that one in particular is helping us. Doubly cool if it also serves as our Navi and takes on it's small fox form to dungeon crawl with us, which would result in any advice being just cryptic enough to not be easy mode for puzzle solving and finding enemy weaknesses.
