You sigh and look up to the sky. The air feels more fresh up on the rooftops.

Especially now that you have your mask on...

You turn your gaze towards the cityscape, and readjust your strap.

You also stopped by your place quickly to pick out your favorite knife. Turning it idly in your hand; you contemplate where to begin your hunt. You hope your sanity holds out; the whole point of using the knife was to make it look like a regular stabbing, not a ghoul hunt.

Speaking of which, what Ward was this again?

Yeah, the 14th Ward; born and raised in the 14th Ward. You were familiar with the Rumors surrounding your home, that recently ghouls have started eating each other in an attempt to gain a new type of power. You, of course; think its stupid. You tried eating a ghoul once and it tasted terrible.

You start hopping across buildings; your black outfit blending into the night sky. Humans seldom look up anyways.
The city looks so big and bustling as you run, but you hardly pay it attention.
So many people moving around, trying to get along their daily lives.
You might even find some ghouls around here.

You land in the nearby alley; and begin to plan.

The big city won't miss one more person...

You pound the ground and grab his hand to help yourself up.

"Thanks." You manage to grunt, wobbling slightly.

"I know it's a party night, but try to keep yourself safe, yeah?" He laughs, before patting you once on the shoulder.

"See you around." He walks off, leaving you behind

You bore holes into the back of his head. You're pretty sure he knows you're a ghoul too. Why did he take pity on you? Maybe he's trying to blend in with humans too?

You shrug your shoulders, the voices have quieted down for now.

But you need to find food, fast; You know you won't stay sane for long.

You move quickly, trying to spot a rich person. And you stumble across the cityscape; you find one.

Kind of snobby looking; perfect target. Normally you'd sit and watch him belittle those around him, but you don't really have time for that.

You just have to move with instinct.

You dart forward, arms grabbing whatever they can from his person and dash away as you hear the yelling from behind you.

You don't look back, but you can hear the footsteps of at least two people.

Good, more food.

You know this place like the back of your hand, and weave in and out of the crowds as they struggle to catch up.

You pretend to trip up; as you've done many times before, and hobble to a deserted alleyway.

"Stop!" A voice, it's shrill and grating on your ears. Ugh.

You grind to a halt, appearing to be at the end of your rope as you turn around.

A bodyguard and the rich man arrive; the latter panting and huffing.

"Now, hand it over here, and maybe my friend here won't have to blow your brains out." He laughs evilly as his employee cocks his gun.

Well, this will be fun.

"Come and get it." You growl, pulling out the knife.

You glance briefly at the walls before nodding quietly to yourself.

Yeah, this will work.

"What are you doing you idiot? I pay you to shoot on command!" The rich man barks, and the gunner pauses for a brief moment.

Ahh, now I can let loose.

You feel your eyes change, and with it; it's almost as if your world becomes blood-red.

"Here I COOME" You scream, as you flip your knife over your hand and become a blur of motion, rocketing upwards before slamming your foot into a wall and bouncing left, right, forward at such speed and intervals that the gunner can't even keep track of you.

"What the FUCK." The rich man squeals before you blast forward, slicing the gunman's shooting arm off in a clean fashion.

The gunner roars in pain, and swings his foot out at you in a panic. You silence him with two knife strikes. One at his throat and the other at his ribcage. He gurgles on his blood before collapsing.

You corner the man, as he backs away deeper down the alleyway; then he notices your eyes.

"Y-You're a-!" Is all he manages to get out before your hand lashes out and grabs his throat.

"Yeah, and you're my meal. So please shut up and die?" You snarl, a gruesome smile on your face as you tighten your grip until you hear a snap.

Ahh, peace at last.

You always try to target these rich bastards; it feels good somehow. The beggars don't really put up much of a fight and you somehow sympathize with them.

They know how it feels to be an outcast and not belong, no matter what.

Pulling your knife from the corpse that was the gunner, you don't bother cleaning the scene. The costume that makes up your hunting outfit is stained with blood, so you quickly make your way up to the rooftops.

You lean against the rooftop railing, and admire the view.

Somehow, it hasn't changed a single bit.

At least, for now.

The hunt left you pretty exhausted, although you stop to strip off your cloak and stuff it away into your bag.

Your mask stares back at you, making you well aware of your sanity and how close you came to losing it.

It fills you with comfort, somehow.

What an interesting mask you chose for yourself.

You hunt mostly at night, so you hardly see why you need to change into it. But it's definitely better that nothing.

You decide to sleep for the night, but not before regaining your bike and pedaling home.

Today wasn't the worst day.

It was about to get a whole lot worse.

The next few days go without much incident. Aya texts you and visits once or twice; but she hasn't asked you to dinner again.

Midoru comes in late, and sometimes also doesn't catch you on your way down.

The boss every now and then asks you to his office; but nothing out of the ordinary.

You and Kuro get along; mostly because you make cracks at Midoru for being such a slob.

Life was pretty good.

It was almost too good.

"Hey, we have a customer, go greet them already!" Kuro says, snapping you out of your reverie. You jump to attention and hurry to the front.

"How can I help you today?"

"Do you remember my order, Mister?" Magna asks, looking pointedly at you, Neiso is fidgeting in the background.

You smile in spite of yourself. This Magna guy is pretty cute in a dorky way, even though he could probably pin three knives in places that would make you probably regret telling him that before you could say "I'm sorry."

"Quintuple sugar right? Right this way." You walk them down to their table.

"You've got a good memory there. Do you have any candies by chance?" He says, poking around your apron.

"Not today, but I was thinking of buying some later." How odd, for you to be conversing so casually with a CCG senior member.

"Magna, sir. We really should be going... I mean we've got that meeting an-."

"Brother?!" You both turn to look at Kuro, her hand to her mouth.

"Siisss! I've missed you!" Magna darts forward and jumps into her arms, Kuro swinging him around in excitement. You've never seen Kuro this happy before.

Well, this is a weird turn of events.

Without even questioning it, you turn to Neiso.

"And for you, Sir?"

"Uhh... Coffee, black."

"Very good, sir."

"SIBLINGS?" Neiso and Midoru finally explode at the same time, rushing over as you carry on with your work.

Kuro and Magna explain the situation. They were orphans from the same orphanage; but actually not related by blood. They bonded during their time there and while Magna joined CCG; Kuro landed the cafe job.

"But wait, that means Magna's the same age as Kuro?" Midoru wonders aloud, "So how old are you Magna?"

"I'm 20 this year."

"Sonny and I are older than you then!" He trumpets aloud and dances around Kuro before getting hand chopped on the head.

"Don't be an idiot in front of customers."

"It's really good to see you again Kuro. I'm afraid I didn't come to just see you. Is the old man around?" Magna asks, sipping his coffee.

"Yeah, he's up in the study like always." Kuro gestures upwards.

"Alrighty." He drains his cup suddenly and stands up, before making his way to the upstairs.

"Old Man! I'm coming in!" He barks at the door before throwing it open.

"Jeez, he's going to be killed!" Midoru gasps.

No one's opened his door like that.

"I wonder what he wants..." You say.

"How did you know what Magna's order was? Have you met him before?" Kuro asks.

"Yeah, when I was taking out garbage a few days back, a ghoul came. Your brother came to save me."

"A ghoul?!" Kuro yelps, "Jeez, you musta been terrified!"

"Your brother's really strong." You laugh.

"Is that your choice to make?" He shoots at you, walking up to retrieve his daggers.

"Is it anyone's? Would you prefer I hunted woman and children so you had an excuse to hate me?" You snarl, anger building up as he pulls the knives out of the floor.

"I have to eat, same as you. I go as long as I can without."

He sighs, stepping back. "You're right." He sits down heavily on a chair; and the Boss looks out a window.

"I got it out of you eventually; and now I can at least get to why I was doing such a slapdash interrogation." He scoffs in spite himself before collecting himself.

"This is sort of cloak and dagger too. This isn't something that others can know."

"I need your help."
