You take the time to try and make yourself seem as alive as possible. You make sure to brush your hair away from your face so that it doesn't hang down in those loose tendrils that it tends to when you forget. You brush your teeth extra vigorously and remember to use the mouthwash this time. You even remember to use the clear anti-perspirant rather than the white cake stuff. That stuff tends to get all matted with armpit hair and....honestly, you don't even like to think about it.

The main point is that by the time you step out of the washroom, feeling and, honestly, looking better than when you entered you find Anita is waiting outside the washroom, patiently tapping at her phone.

“Morning” She mutters, lifting the cloud of curls away from her face as she slips her phone into her pajama bottoms.

“Morning” you reply before she unceremoniously pushes past you and into the bathroom.

The door closes with a sharp finality and you decide to walk back downstairs. As you do, you recall what Bart said about the television...maybe you can do something about it?

You have about 40 minutes remaining until Class. Though it does take you fifteen to walk to Class.

You spend almost the rest of the time you have remaining, assuming you do not want to be late, working on the television. However, by the time you're done, lo and behold, it's actually fixed. You smile as you flip through channels, just to make sure that you didn't manage to do something horrible. Just as you are about to turn off the television, however, you stumble across a news station which appears to be interviewing 'Billionaire Maxwell Lord' and you stop, seemingly frozen in place at the mention of your father.

You feel yourself gulp involuntarily as the camera switches to show Maxwell Lord sitting in an armchair, opposite the anchor.

"ridiculous! I mean, the Justice League has volunteered themselves as our saviors for YEARS with seemingly no interest in world politics or even compensation. I think, if anything, our government should be REWARDING them, for the service they render"

"Right, but Mister Lord, don't you think the government should have a say in who represents them?"

You click the power button just as you hear Anita's footfalls reach the last step on the staircase. She rounds the corner and makes a beeline for the fridge.

The walk to class is, thankfully, uneventful and you actually manage to arrive with a bit of time before class is supposed to start. You find yourself a seat you feel comfortable sitting in and manage to settle into it just in time for the Professor, a raven-haired woman who looks much younger than you'd expect, to walk over to the door and shut it. She presses the lock on the door and then walks back to her podium before beginning to shuffle about some papers.

“I apologize for my absence yesterday; I had some matters that needed attending to.” The professor finall seems to settle on how she wants her papers arranged and gives all of you an icy glare. She does not look particularly pleased to be here.

“By the end of this year, many of you will have either dropped out, been the victim of a crime or failed to maintain the Grade Point Average necessary to stay in this program” She says it plainly, no venom or passion. She's just saying things she believes to be true, and that's troubling because she could be referring to anyone in the room.

“However. None of that is my concern. My only concern is to give assignments, collect assignments, grade them and then give you tests based on the material those assignments were designed to help you learn. That having been said, my point is that I do not accept late assignments, I rarely give retests and extra-credit is a crutch I plan to kick out from under you.

In short, my preferred archetype as an instructor is 'ice cold bitch' and I do not intend to change it”

You tentatively raise your hand, taking note that you are one of the few students who seem to be doing so. That Duke fellow seems to have raised his hand as well and Daniel Bullock has somehow managed to work looking smug into raising his hand. That guy is a true artist with douchebaggery. You find your own musings interrupted as the Professor points directly at you and says "You with the long hair and sleep deprivation. Go"

You blink for a second, mouth open, about to ask what the question was when you recall.

"You're Kassidy Sa" You stop yourself before you say Savage. You know her real name, it was something that Constantne taught you after you brought the news story regarding Vandal Savage to him. About that mass murderer who somehow managed to kill a bunch of swat guys using just his bare hands. John had informed you that not everything supernatural was magical...some of it simply existed.

"ge. Kassidy Sage" You note your professor's slight smile at your hesitance, but choose to pretend as if you didn't. "You helped catch a bunch of Metahuman and other noteworthy killers. You're some sort of profiling genius and, assuming the rumors are true, something of an expert marksman"

Professor Sage nods her head, obviously pleased with your answer.

"What's your name, keener?"

"Hmm. Class, I suggest you keep an eye out for Mr. Dennet. Something tells me he might be worth paying some attention to"

She then turns back to the white board and begins to write something. You take out your binder of lined paper, but before you can write anything, someone pokes you in the back and you glance over your shoulder to find Duela sitting there, smiling nervously at you.

She mouths 'Good job' and then sets to work writing notes.

You smile slightly.

The walk over to the Tomaz's home is uneventful, however, when you do reach the front door to their building you find that it has been taped off with police tape. That, and most of the glass for the entrance is completely shattered. For a moment you consider just stepping past the tape and going to the elevators, but you decide to honor the sign someone put up and make your way over to the side doors where a man in a security guard outfit nods at you politely and opens the door.

You soon find yourself just outside of the Tomaz's apartment. The door opens soon after you knock and Adrianna greets you with her typical monotone.

"Hello Charlie"
"Hi Adrianna"
"Have you captured the man with the tattoos?"
"Huh?"
"The man who sent the demon-dog after my brother."
"Oh. No, not yet....Could I have the dog?"
"No. I believe you slayed the demon-dog, so I cannot give it to you"

You roll your eyes and Adrianna snaps her fingers and soon the dog rushes into view to stand beside her.

As you step past Duela's home, you find your way forward cut off as someone consistently steps in front of you. Deep in thought, you fail to recognize Stephanie Brown at first. She smiles as realization dawns on your face and scratches Quintus behind the ear as he circles around you to stand beside her.

"Hey Charlie! Are you not paying D a visit tonight? Hmm? One night stands your preferred modus operandi?"

Your frown deepens and you begin to question her intentions a fair bit. Stephanie smiles reassuringly at you and extracts her cellphone which she uses to call someone. Turning the call to speakerphone. In a moment, you hear the familiar voice of Walters and Stephanie and he begin a conversation.

"What do you want, Brown?"
"Great hear from you too! Yeah, no, I'm doing okay. Thanks for asking. You're so considerate"
"I don't have time for your idiocy; what do you want?"
"I have Quintus"

Waving at Steph, you walk over to the front door of Duela's residence and knock. This time, the wait for someone to answer the door is actually long enough that you feel compelled to, politely, knock again. After a few moments, the door opens to reveal it is none other than Duela herself. She is wearing a Elliot University sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants, again. She yelps once she sees that it is you and closes the door before you can finish greeting her.
"Eep!"

You stand there, glancing one way up the street then the other. You prepare to knock again but the door opens to reveal Duela now wearing a winter coat over her clothes and looking less than pleased.
"What are you doing here?"
"I ran into Stephanie on the street and then a thing with a dog happened and now she's gone off somewhere with the dog"
"What sort of thing with a dog?"
"I found a dog and i- Actually, were you going somewhere?"
"Huh? Oh, um, Yes. Kind of. Steph and I we...we work out together" she gets steadily quieter as she explains and you feel as if she might not be entirely comfortable revealing that to you.

She rolls her eyes and then points down the street
"Come back in the next fifteen minutes or I'm leaving without you, but grab a change of clothes. Don't be the guy who works out in jeans...please. And bring a water bottle"
You nod and then begin walking to your home, smiling to yourself. It seems you've actually managed to find someone you don't mind working out with and she knows what she's doing. Which is nice, because, honestly, you've never REALLY worked out before.

You walk into the apartment to find Anita once more furiously tapping away at a laptop as Cissie and Bart cook and Lil Lobo seems to be playing Halo. From the sheer quantity of 'Bastitches' he's managing to work into his insults, you're pretty sure he's playing online. Cissie and Bart are having far too much fun...actually, are they flirting? They'd make a cute pair, those two, but you really aren't interested in having a pair of teenagers hooking up at your house. You'll have to be the lame friend later this week, if it becomes an issue.

You make it to your room and back without incident and soon you are wearing sweats of your own and a t-shirt and you ahve a change of clothes in your backpack. Just like high school gym.

The walk back to Duela's is without incident and soon enough the two of you are walking into the Campus Gym after having discussed some basic ideas Duela has about the gym. She has warned you about the 'New Years' Crowd that will ahve flooded hte gym and she was not mistaken. Seemingly every machine is taken by someone, though the bench is open and Duela makes a beeline for it.

Working out is not fun when you aren't in shape.

Despite Duela spotting you and giving you what seems to be quality advice, you struggle throughout the workout she seems to have prepared for you, despite it seeming quite barebones. She takes you from the Bench Press to the Squat Rack and then to Sit Ups and Deadlifts and so on. You kind of got the impression she wasn't as much trying to get you to complete a workout as much as figuring out just how strong you were. Whenever you were done with an exercise she would jump right onto the station and crank out her own sets.

And she held nothing back, so, despite her demeanor as a meek girl, you're fairly certain that Duela is actually stronger than you...or most people. It was all very telling, but of what, you still aren't sure.

On the walk back home, Duela reveals that she and Stephanie actually work out almost every single day. Which is why she brought the protein powder and the granola bar to the gym with her, to help her cope with tomorrow's workout. You only brought water, so you feel rather shaky.

"I suggest you buy some protein powder yourself, Charlie. Good effort tonight; hopefully, you'll be ready for tomorrow too" And with that, she leaves you to walk yourself home.

As soon as you enter, you feel the atmosphere and frown as it seems everyone is watching the news.

You make sure to hit the restroom really quick and grab a drink of water from your bottle before jumping into bed. You say Shazam at the same moment that you slip free from your physical body and in a flash, both literally and figuratively, you understand. You have BECOME the lightning. You become speed and energy and light and you rocket past any boundaries that the universe might impose upon you. In fact, you break free of the universe. You rocket through and over and around and past and you are in the Rock of Eternity once more.

Climbing to your feet, you always seem to either be flat on your face or on your hands and knees when you arrive in here. You begin walking towards the Council Room, from which you can hear several people speaking all at once.

As you enter the room, you note that all the usual suspects are there, as well as a young bi-racial girl who seems kind of shell-shocked and dirty. She looks oddly familiar, but you push the thought to the back of your mind as she bursts into a huge smile at your arrival.

“Are YOU Charlie!?” She asks, jumping off the odd stone throne in the center of the semi-circle. Billy smiles at you and steps away from the girl freeing her path as she steps to you.

“Uh, yeah. Who's asking?”
“Wow. You're really big”
You resist the urge to say 'That's what she said' to what appears to be a nine year old and instead
“Well, yeah. I'm a bit older than you”
“I guess....Um, so, when are you going to save me?”

You frown and look about the room. Thaddeus looks sickly and angry, as per the last time you saw him. Black Adam is sitting in one of the thrones, casually observing while Billy looks just as surprised as you.
He leans in to whisper in your ear
“Are you a hero?”

I'd suggest that when these plotlines start to come to a close, change it so that there's one constant, super important, overarching plotline, one that's more relevant to personal relationships, and one temporary, less important plotline.
