You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After doing some investigation, you discovered that the demon who killed Lord Kraemer took and attempted to destroy a letter sent from the king to Lord Kraemer prior to his death. In said letter, the king attempted to sway Lord Kraemer’s vote on the crusade, but Lord Kraemer turned him down. Concerned that the king may be the demon, or at least manipulated by it, you and the Captain decided to remain silent until you could find more evidence to support your claim. As you entered the next council meeting, however, you found that the king, who until now had not attended the meetings, was waiting for you.

"Welcome, Champion. And welcome to you as well, Captain. If you'll just have a seat, we can begin this High Council Meeting immediately."

The king welcomes you as you enter the council meeting room. You can’t help but be surprised, up until now the king has chosen not to attend these meetings under the false guise of being sick, so why is he here now? You ponder this, as you and Laurentius take a seat at the table, while your honor guard takes position behind you as normal. As you look around the table, you notice you’re not the only one with guards here anymore. Every councilman has two castle guards with them as well, save for Moeller who has four. The king, of course, has his own pair of bodyguards as well, standing quietly at attention behind him.

”Your majesty, I was under the impression you were sick. What brings you to the meeting now?” Laurentius asks.

“Yes, well it seems I’m feeling well enough to attend today.” The king explains.

“Then, my lord, shall we continue the previous debate concerning our kingdom’s participation in the crusade?” Lord Bernadotte suggests.

The king nods. “Yes, indeed, that is clearly the most important topic for us to discuss here. However, if there truly is a demon amongst us somewhere as my guards have informed me, then I believe we do not have the luxury of spending a few sessions discussing the matter.”

One of the councilmen raises an eyebrow. “What are you proposing then, your highness?”

“I believe that, for the safety of the entire council, we should dedicate this entire session to the debate and then proceed to vote on the matter immediately. After that, the council should adjourn and return home.”
>>
>>45586680
“You highness, isn’t that rather little time to decide something so important?” Laurentius asks.

“Indeed, it is a rather hurried decision, but the longer we wait to decide, the more likely it is that another councilman will be attacked. And besides, was it not your own Champion who informed us how rash the Lord of Wrath is? I say we should take a stance on the matter before he loses his patience, then send the council away to the safety of their own estates.”

>Accept. You may not have as much time to argue in favor of the crusade, but the king does have a point.
>Argue for more time, something’s not right here. (Make your case).
>>

I'm tempted to pick the second one,but I'm not good with words and it'll be metagame-y

>Trying to figure out why councilman was killed and who demon is.
>Some suspicions around the King
>Meeting to talk about the demon and the country's stance on the Crusade.
>King showed up, probably to counteract all our points and get his country fucked due to making a deal with the devil.
>>
>>45586701
You voice no objections, and neither do the other councilmen. When no one tries to argue for time, the king continues.

"Now then, if we're all in agreement, then let's not waste any time. As you all know, I've made my stance on the matter very clear. I, for one, am against involving ourselves in another crusade, because I see no gain in doing so. We've gone to crusade so many times before in the past, and not once have we so much as slain a single demon lord. Perhaps in the old days, when the demonic hordes were still trying to overrun us, there was reason to struggle on despite that. Nowadays, however, things are different. The demons do not attack us anymore. They may raid some of our border settlements, which is most certainly unfortunate, but then rather than going to war we should simply put more effort into defending our borders."

"What about the attack on Morsland? They attacked us then, what's stopping them from attacking us again?" Laurentius points out.

"Morsland was attacked because it was the Champion's home city." The king states. "They did not attack us for the purpose of invading, they attacked us because of the Champion, whom they perceive as a threat. In two-hundred years, they have not attacked us, and now they only do because a new Champion has been selected. We have had two-hundred years of peace in which the demons have left us alone. Who is to say that joining another crusade won't provoke their ire again, and cause them to attack us as they did in the old days?"

>"Alastor won't leave Iseria alone just because we choose not to get involved."
>"What happens if the other kingdoms are overrun then? What stops them from destroying Iseria as well, when it has no allies?"
>"What about the demon in the palace right now? They might not have attacked us directly for two-hundred years, but they haven't left us alone."

Mainly these two
>>
>>45587204
>>"What about the demon in the palace right now? They might not have attacked us directly for two-hundred years, but they haven't left us alone."

The fact that they're willing to infiltrate and murder people says little for there willingness to not interfere in life. They killed someone because something wasn't going to plan, imagine all the times they didn't need to kill someone, a little blackmail here, a little bribe there, and suddenly you've got a whole fucking terrifying amount of manipulation

Now, as for my theory, I think leviathan is behind the whole new coalition, and shes using her living fragment as a pawn because leviathan can trust leviathan to represent leviathans interests

Once again, its not that complicated, Leviathan decided this war wasn't worth her time, was conspiring with demons only at the time to defeat her masters, and got betrayed and murdered.

While stuck outside the world, Leviathan reached out and began plotting again, to take out all the other lords and assume control, when one of her cultists revived a fragment of her, she was now able to use that fragment in her plot, as a calculated variable that would enable her to predict events better.

Shes working with many of the angels in heaven to accomplish this, as they're fed up with shit too and are trying to break the rules.

That is a very good question. I don't think that Leviathan will change on a fundamental level, but if Leviathan were to become aware of the overarching plot and realize that she was a pawn in a greater game then bad things would happen, most notably Leviathan conspiring against herself and then you've just got a gigantic cluster fuck. Probably part of why we're leaving her in the dark.

"Alastor won't leave Iseria alone just because we choose not to get involve." You state.

The king leans forward in his seat. "What exactly makes you say that? Yes, Alastor has been known for his bloodthirsty nature since he first set foot on earth, but until now he hasn't attacked Iseria until the new Champion was selected. From my perspective, it seems more like the Lord of Wrath is interested in the Champion, not Iseria. Given his relative passiveness in the past two-hundred years, we have no reason to believe that-"

"It's not all about me, your highness." You suddenly say, standing up from your seat. "These last two-hundred years haven't been as peaceful as you say. Remember, Andras still attacked Morsland during the Festival of Creation to steal Galadriel. I was just a town guard then. Had I not intervened you would have lost the ONLY defense against the demons. You think Andras would have stolen Galadriel and then stopped there? That day was the start of demon aggression, with or without me, things were and are going to escalate."

It isn't until you finish speaking that you notice everyone is looking at you in mild shock, the king included. Now that you think about it, you may have just come off as a bit rude there, cutting the king off and speaking so aggressively. Truth be told though, you couldn't help it. Since the first council meeting, Moeller and a few others have been suggesting that the whole reason for the recent attacks was because of you, like everything happening was your fault. You managed to stay relatively calm this whole time, but now you couldn't help but speak up. This wasn't your fault, after all, it was Andras who came for Galadriel and started everything. The demons started this, not you, and you were getting tired of hearing the council talk like everything was your fault.
>>
>>45587984
Lord Moeller stands up angrily. "You mind your manners in the presence of-"

"It is alright, Lord Moeller." The king says, putting a hand up towards Moeller. "The Champion has a point, and I apologize if I have managed to offend you in some way. Is there anything else you would like to say then, before we hear what the other councilmen wish to say?"

>"Yes, your majesty." (Write-in)
>"No your majesty, thank you." Sit down, allow the others to talk.
>>
>>45588011
Ask for a map, and demands each councilmen where they are from.
Each time you ask one you wipe out their town saying "oh it's just ONE place, no need to go to war". Then finish with the king.

Okay I get your point, but that might come off not so good.

>>"Yes, your majesty."
Pretty much what >>45588177 said, but with a dramatic music score, to show how serious the situation is.
>>
>>45588011
>>"Yes, your majesty."
This is a moment, the first in 200 years, where we have the oppurtunity to retaliate for the horrors committed against our people. For the land stolen from our ancestors. For the victims of the night raids, the prisoners of the farms, for the attack on Morsland and on other cities. This is our first chance in centuries to save our brothers and sisters trapped deep within demon held lands.

I have been to the farms. I have seen their experiments, the suffering that language would fail to describe, the malice of the demons. If you, my King, do not take advantage of this opportunity to make right the wrongs of the world and end the unanswered assaults on your people, the Crusade will continue, and whether we find victory or failure, you will be remembered as a coward amongst your neighbors and amongst your own people.

You have a duty to march. As the rulers of this land you cannot claim legitimacy if you shy away from the responsibility you have to your people, to our neighbors, to humanity, and to Holy Galadriel. I implore you, King Harald, both as Champion and as your subject, join me, fight with me, do not fall victim to the demonic agents in your court whispering for you to stay behind and doom our war effort. March with me, march with your fellow Kings, and do that which you know is right.

"Just this, your majesty. Lord Kraemer was killed by a demonic infiltrator that's been here for who knows how long. Even if you ignore the loss of your border towns and two attacks on Morsland, demons are not leaving Iseria alone, like it or not."

With that said, you take a seat, and the councilment take their turns to speak and make their own counter-points. You speak again a few more times, but for the most part Laurentius and Bernadotte do most of the talking. Times passes, and the setting sun disappears beyond the horizon outside. By the time everyone has finished debating, it is already night time.

"Now, I believe the time has come for us all to cast our votes." The king declares. "Everyone, take your parchment and vote Yea or Nay, then submit your vote inside the chest."

As the king says this, one of his guards produces a large wooden chest from under the table and sets it on the table alongside a couple sheets of parchment. The parchment is dispensed among all those sitting at the table, save for you and Laurentius, who are not councilmen, and everyone begins writing their votes. One by one, each of them submits their votes into the wooden chest, and once all votes are collected and counted aloud by the king. The final result...

"That is...6 in favor of a crusade, and 5 against."

You sigh in relief as the announcement, as does most of your honor guard. There's no cheering or booing at the table, of course, but you can definitely see that some of the council's members are taking the news much better than others. Lord Moeller in particular seems rather unhappy at the announcement.

The king sighs, and rises to his feet. "Well then, I feel I need some fresh air. Excuse my while I step out for a moment."
>>
>>45589017
The king exits the room, bringing his bodyguards with him. As soon as he leaves, Lord Bernadotte walks around to your side of the table.

"Well, that went better than expected." He says with a smile.

"Indeed, it did." Captain Laurentius agrees.

"I will admit though I did not expect that little outburst of yours, Champion. I feel it helped drive your point home, however, so I would say that was a job well done."

"You think so, sir? I thought I stepped out of my bounds, to be honest." You admit. Indeed, almost immediately after you spoke earlier you felt as though you did something very wrong. You just blurted it out, and thankfully it drove your point home, but if Captain Gregory had been around to hear you, you suspect he would have thrown you down a flight of stairs or something.

"Perhaps a tad, but not so much as to be completely negative. For future reference, however, I believe you should-"

Lord Bernadotte's words are cut short by the sudden scream of one of the councilmembers. Jumping to your feet on instinct, you turn to face the source of the scream and are shocked to find that Lord Moeller, who was making his way towards the door, has been stabbed in the back by one of his own guards. The guard draws his sword out of the old councilman's back, and he collapses to the ground.

"By The Void, what have you done?!" One of the councilmen demands. Before he can say any more, his own guards draw their swords and stab him in the back as well. It takes only a split second for you to realize all the other guards are drawing their weapons as well.

"Betrayal!" Lord Bernadotte shouts, drawing the rapier on his belt but moving behind you and Laurentius. You and the others draw your weapons as well, as some of the guards begin to move advance towards you, weapons drawn.

"Councilmen, get behind me!" You shout. "And all loyal guardsmen here, lay down your arms now!"

The councilmen do as you say, turning tail and running to get behind you and the others as quickly as possible. Most make it, though one recieves a nasty slash across his back before he makes it. He falls to the floor, but Reinhardt moves quickly and drags him to safety. None of the guards lower their weapons, however. In fact, they all spread out so that you and the other are trapped in the corner.

Lifting you hand into the air, you mutter a quick incantation for Flash. There is a sudden burst of blinding light, but most of the guards manage to avert their eyes in time, only two failing to do so in time.

Taking advantage of the situation, you advance towards one of the blinded guards, shifting galadriel into a halberd as you do. While he's blinded, you swing the flat of your halberd at the side of the man's head, delivering a hard swing that, by all rights, should have knocked any man unconscious. However, something is not right.

As soon as the halberd touches the guard's face, you see his skin begins to burn. He falls to the floor, letting out an inhuman screech of pain, and you manage to dart back before the guards beside him can hit you.

"Demons? Why didn't you sense them?" You shout back to Ganelon.

"I could sense nothing from them until Galadriel burned him, something is not right here!" Ganelon responds.

'He's right, I couldn't sense anything either.' Galadriel agrees.

'Neither could I. Damn Lilith and her spies.' Leviathan grumbles.

You cast Force Sphere around everyone, to protect the surviving councilmen from the demonic guards. Then you cast Duplicate, and begin charging a fireball.

"Councilmen, stay inside the sphere. Everyone else, let's move!"

On your order, everyone steps out of the sphere and begins fighting the demonic guards. You strike first, throwing a fireball into a crowd of them. The guards, however, are faster than you would expect, and leap out of the way in time. The table everyone was sitting at moments ago catches fire, along with a few of the chairs.

Failing to hit them with a fireball, you engage one of the guards, armed with a sword and shield. You attempt to poke at his defenses, but find that the guard simply bats your halberd away, slashing at you with his sword.

>55/60 HP remaining

The cut isn't fatal, but it hurts. From the corner of your eye, you can see the others engaging the rest of the demonic guards. Their weapons burn the guards' flesh, reminding you that you placed a Holy enchantment on everyone's weapons back in Galloway. You knew those enchantments would come in handy.

It's good to finally have you back Sparks. Thanks for running.
>>
Apologies everyone, just ran into some technical difficulties. There was a quick brown-out and my computer turned off. Seems like my word client didn't save my update though, so it'll take me a bit to type it up again. Just letting you know so no one thinks I'm dead.

Or maybe you were taken out by demons pretending to be your groundskeeper and hes impersonating you now!

You aren't fooling anyone you foul demon!

Quickly recovering from the attack, you cast Haste on yourself and the others. Then, when the guard comes in for another slash, you cast Blink to teleport behind him and stab him through the heart with the point of your halberd. This causes the guard to raise his head up and screech before collapsing to the floor. As he does, you notice something strange. A small black wisp seems to float out of his mouth, which then flies up towards the ceiling and passes through it. Once the black wisp leaves him, the guard's body quickly dissolves into ash.

'What in the Void are these things?' You ask.

'I don't know, I've never seen demons like this before.' Galadriel admits.

'Neither have I. Whatever those black wisps are though, they smell like demons. The mortals smell different though, they smell like they've been dead for a while now.'

Another guard charges at you from the side with a spear. This time, you blink to his side and shift Galadriel into a warhammer, then smash his face in as he charges, his moment and your swing causing the front of his skull to cave in. Once again, another wisp of black mist rises from his ruined face, up towards the ceiling and through it, leaving the body to collapse into ash moments later.

'What are you saying, Leviathan?'

'I'm saying these mortals are already dead. Whatever that mist was, it looks like it was using their bodies like puppets, to try and mask their presence.'

To your right, you see Reinhardt trip one of the demonic guards before another comes to attack him, forcing him away from the collapsed guard. Moving in quickly, you bash the collapsed guard's face in before he can get up, then raise your hand and fire an Ice Bolt at the guard attacking Reinhardt. The sharp icicle stabs through the side of it's skull, causing it to fall to the ground as well. Once again, some strange black mist escapes their mouths and floats up through the ceiling.

'Siegfried, I believe that whatever's controlling these guards must be upstairs. If we fly through the window, we may be able to follow them back to their source, possibly stopping them all.' Galadriel suggests.

Before you can respond, another group of guards open the door to the council room. With expressionless faces, the guards draw their weapons and advance towards the group.

>Go out the window, find the source and let the others handle the situation here.
>Stay here, help the others fight their way out.

You summon up more Aether to reapply another Force Sphere around the councilmen, just to be safe, and cast Curse of Ice on everyone's weapons, including your own. You feel light-headed after casting that many strong spells so quickly, but you feel you still have more spells left in you before you need to worry.

"Galadriel says she can sense the source of those black wisps controlling the guards upstairs. I'm going to go deal with the source, keep the councilmen safe and find a safer place to defend yourselves if you can force your way out.

Laurentius decapitates another guard in one fluid motion, proving once again that he's still incredibly spry for his age. "Understood. We will keep the council safe, you go deal with the source as quickly as possible. Go!"

On command, you make a run for the nearest window and jump, smashing through the window and into the cool night air outside. Before you start to fall, Galadriel begins to glow with golden light, which then travels up your arm and to your back, materializing into six golden wings of light, which begin to flap and take you higher into the air.

'Which side are the wisps flying to?' You ask.

'Over there, on the opposite side.' Galadriel says.

You fly around the palace, following Galadriel's directions and soaring into another window on the opposite side of the castle on the third floor. You crash through the glass, sending shards of it flying all around, and land on your feet inside the room. when you look up, you see the king of Iseria himself, King Harald V of Iseria, staring at you in shock. At his side is a large, shadowy creature, with two white eyes and a large set of white teeth. It seems to grin when it see you, a chilling sight to behold.

"You highness, what's the meaning of this?!" You demand.

"Champion, what are you doing here?" You should-"

"Be downstairs, getting attacked by possessed guards? What's going on here?"

The demon floats forward, a low chuckle escaping it's toothy mouth. "You king is doing exactly what We tell him." The demon says. When it speaks, you think you can hear multiple smaller voices speak with it in unison. Behind it, you see the black wisps of smoke from earlier, flying to him and seemingly fusing back into his form.

The king looks as though he wishes to say more, but stops. He looks away from you in shame, but does not deny what the demon says.

>"There are councilmen dead, your highness. Why would you do this?"
>"I knew something was wrong. Once we found that letter you sent to Lord Kraemer, I knew you were up to something."
>"Why would you do this, your highness? What would the prince say if he knew you were collaborating with demons?"

Siegfried must look intimidating as fuck right now.

Crashing through a window, glowing with 6 golden wings, and wielding a big golden warhammer.
>>
>>45590788
>>No more words, attack the demon
>>
>>45590788
You instantly leap forward, your wings allowing you to glide over to the demon in a single bound. You can't afford to waste time here, you must defeat this demon before your friends are overwhelmed. As you reach the demon, you swing your warhammer overhead at it in a massive swing. Unfortunately, the demon sees your attack coming, and with a grin sinks through the floor, it's large white teeth grinning at you as it phases through the floor, your swing hitting nothing but air.

"Nice try, but it's a little cramped here. Why don't we try fighting somewhere a little more spacious?"

Suddenly, you feel one of the demon's claws grab your leg, and forcibly pull you down through the floor, breaking through into what appears to be the palace ballroom. You kick at the demon's hand and break free, your wings allowing you to land gracefully on the ballroom floor, wood and stone debris falling to the floor a few feet in front of you, a hole to the king's chambers in the roof above you.

"There, much better." The demon says. "Now, let's get this fight started."

The shadowy demon raises it's arms, and you see several of those same black wisps from before begin to fly away from it's body. The wisps begin to take their own shape, forming into six smaller copies of the original demon. The demons cackle in unison, a sound that echoes through the empty ballroom.

We found out that the Kings son basically has two souls in his little body making him OP HAX levels of wizards magic at the expense of those two soul eating their way out of his body over time. Now if you were a powerful fleshcrafter (a skill only three being in existence have) you could save the boy. One of those beings in an angel locked away behind the heaven blockade. The other two are demons, one of whom is Malphas himself. Do the math as to what happened when the king found this out.
>>
>>45591190
Well, shit. I was just basing assumptions on the king's mannerisms.
>>
>>45591212
Yeah man King LITERALLY made a deal with the devil to save his little boy. Shit is fucked.
>>
Alright, back and writing now.

>>45591190
This is the gist of it, except it's not two souls, it's just one really powerful one. Also, they're not so much fleshcrafters as they are soulcrafters. Manipulating flesh is easy, manipulating a soul is hard. Also, for the record, the two demons that can help the prince are Malaphas himself, and Alastor. Remember those bull demons he turned humans into? That was an example of his work.

You draw on Galadriel's wells of strength, causing your sword to glow once more, though this time Galadriel's light envelops your entire being before fading away, leaving you with a significantly increased sense of strength. After that you leap backwards, your wings carrying you through the air as you shift your warhammer into a heavy bow. With your Haste spell still boosting your reflexes, you pull the string of your bow all the way back to your ear and fire multiple times in a matter of seconds. Galadriel's arrows of golden light fly towards the smaller copies, piercing them all through the heart. The copies scream, then dematerialize into small clouds of smoke, which float back and fuse back into the demon's body.

"Your efforts are futile. We are many, and We are strong."

You shift your bow back into a halberd and charge forward, soaring through the air on your six wings. The demon lifts it's clawed hand into the air to swing at you, and that's when you cast Blink. The demon's claws hit thin air, as you teleport in behind him. Your momentum does not slow down with the teleport, allowing you to skewer the demon through what you would have assumed was it's heart.

The demon shrieks in pain, the dematerializes into a cloud of black smoke. It floats away from you, splitting into two equally sized pieces, their toothy mouths curved into a scowl.

"It hurts!" The two declare in unison, their echoing voices sounding a little smaller than before. "It DARES to hurt US! We will make it pay! We will make it bleed!"

Once again, small black wisps of smoke begin to float away from both forms. Just like before, the wisps materialize into even smaller versions of their copies, except now there are twice as many. The first demon made six copies, and then the second made six more, creating twelve more shadow demons.

As a member of BRAVE Newbies I am personally a professional in the art of coups.

There are a few good ways to do them, the biggest is to remove the supporters of the establishment and/or flood the place with your own supporters. Or to have proxies for yourself.

He's a traitor falling for a deal where he isn't even sure they would help him with.
He'll be judged by the council and white tower.
They may leave him alive untill the prince is of age.
Regency should go to a loyal council member and a representative of the Kraemer family.
We should also invite members from ganleons order to serve as guards to the chief nobles(which will influence them and their families to be more zealous and cautious about demons).

This, the most Seigfried can do is report to the council that the king did "so and so because xyz reason".
What happens afterward can only be decided by the council, if they pardon the king he can voice his displeasure but he has no choice but to deal with it. Same if they punish him, he can only voice out his concern if the sentence is too light/harsh.

This is the kind of thought that leads down a dark path. We're supposed to be protecting these people. If we're going to go around brutalizing those who are preyed upon by demons in their times of weakness and letting those weaker than us pass when they're in need, why are we fighting?

I get that it's for the best of the money, but it's these small battles that define us. I'll advocate speaking to the king, if at least for the tactical advantage it may offer us. I don't defend his actions, but remember that mind affecting magic may be in play, as Leviathan has told us about this bitch.

There was never anything anybody could have done without ending the Angels current isolationism. The only way he could be healed otherwise is to have a demon lord rewrite his very soul.

Think about that for a moment, this is the person who would one day sit on the throne and rule one of four great kingdoms. And you want to get a demon to reconfigure his very heart and soul. How do you think that would work out in the end?
>>
>>45591639
It seems like it's such a ridiculous and strange situation that we really should have Drawanon here for it.

You raise your hand and cast Flash. Originally, you just intended to stun the demons before moving in to attack, but something else happens when the spell goes off. As soon as your hand flashes with bright light, there is a collective glass-shattering screech that almost forces you to reach up and cover your ears. The demons then begin to fight amongst themselves, biting and slashing the clones next to them in a ferocious display. You're almost too stunned to act, but eventually gather your wits again and begin casting a fireball spell. You throw it where the shadow demons are most concentrated, causing a fiery explosion which swallows up most of the demons. You notice, however, that when they die they do not turn into smoke and fuse back into their original.

Muttering an incantation for Duplicate, you and your clone then charge in to destroy one of the remaining demons. Shifting Galadriel into a greatsword, you fly forward and slice the demon in half. Like before, however, he turns into a cloud of black smoke and floats back to his original host. The host, however, is the last remaining demon left.

'The fire, keep using it!' Galadriel suggests.

'Do it quickly, before he can split into more!' Leviathan adds.

I'm not telling you he must be brought to trial out of anger or trying to spite him you twit. He has subverted his responsibilities to his people, the people we are fighting to protect, on the most fundamental level. He cannot be allowed to remain on the throne, not after he literally sold it to the demons.

My heart goes out to the prince, but you're essentially suggesting we prioritize his emotional wellbeing over the very survival of the entire kingdom.

>>45591682
Who said anything about the prince?
>>
>>45591685
Well for one depending upon what the council does with the whole the king is a traitor thing the child may very well be homeless. AND he IS an OP HAX level wizard to be, and dying. Really there are few things he can do with what life he has left, especially now that he probably wont have the money for healers and the like to extend his life for very long.
Either
A) Sit about and cry until he explodes.
or
B) Try to make his way in the world and DO something with his life.
And i hate to sound like a fucking psychopath, but what better way to clear the family name than to go on crusade to fight the very things your father sought to sell his people out to?

I'll say go ahead and roll me three rolls of 3d10.

Also, not to get to involved in the current discussion on what to do with the king, but I would like to clarify something. The prince won't be homeless if his father's dead, odds are a regent will be appointed until the prince is old enough to inherit. Of course, since he's likely to die before he's old enough to inherit, and is the only child of the king, that makes Iseria's future complicated.

just remember, caesar forgave brutus of one betrayal only to have him pull off a second one
>>
>>45591752
Then why did you bring him up to muddle the issue? Again, the young prince has my sympathies, and I fully support doing everything in our power to protect and treat him. We can make sure no vindictive nobles try to assassinate him, and possibly find a way of healing him that doesn't involve open brain surgery from a demon lord. But his father must answer for what he's done, the scale of this betrayal is too great to trust him with a kingdom. Are you trying to argue that we should let him go to protect the prince?
>>
>>45591784
Yes i understand that. However look at it like this for just a moment. There have been what 25 OTHER Crusades before our that have all ended in pain failure and terror for the world in general. We have to look for advantages wherever we can find them. A Wizard that has the potential to drop a meteor or ten on an advancing Demon army is a HUGE bonus to our fighting strength.
>>
>>45591814
>Are you trying to argue that we should let him go to protect the prince?
Goddamn where do you even get that? I literally said 'Hey I'm all for bringing the king to trial,'

I don't care about the king. Someone suggested that his entire family be imprisoned. I wasn't about it. THATS IT.

Lets drop this.
>>
>>45591810
Brutus killed Caesar because he was to reign Dictator for perpetuity. That'd be like us beating the demons and claiming the title King of Humanity before Galadriel stabbed us in the back.
>>
>>45591777
We've already confirmed that the only two entities capable of curing his ailments (via modification of his soul) are Malphas and Alastor. Try reading the thread before you post nonsense.
>>

>How long does the prince have Sparks, more or less?
Galadriel guessed that he probably only has a few years left.
>>
>>45591849
Depending on how long he has we can cure him via the angel method when we win the crusade.
>>
>>45591858
We have to win the crusade first AND break the Heaven blockade to do that.
>>
>>45591854
Well lets hope we can win the crusade before that happens.
>>
>>45591854
Sparks, I know we've spoken that his body can't hold the soul it contains, but I'm the anon who hasn't been around for a while. Since the issue is binary (soul =/= body) would body modification of some degree aid in this issue? Not sure on the level of biomancy available, but it's worth asking.
>>
>>45591869
The Heaven Blockade goes down the when Mal goes down. I'm pretty sure that was the rule.

And we only win the crusade when Mal dies.
>>
>>45591858
I hope so too, but that plan is a massive longshot. There would need to be a coup amongst the angels, a race predisposed to following orders to the absolute letter. Hopefully Galadriel's old commander might be plotting something along those lines...
>>
>>45591874
The soul was not meant for the mortal real, adding more flesh wont help in any appreciable way.

You use haste to your advantage, and begin chucking fireballs as quickly as you can. The first strikes the demon dead center. The second lands at his feet and explodes with him in it. By the time you throw the third fireball you feel yourself getting tired, and end up missing your third throw as a result. Thankfully, however, it's enough. The fires begin to settle, and the shadow demon is nowhere to be found.

'Can you sense him anymore?' You ask.

'No, I cannot sense him anymore. I believe he is dead.' Galadriel states.

You hunch over, hand on your knees for support, and take a deep breath 'Haah, good. I think I might have gotten a little excessive there at the end, but at least the job's done. Can either of you sense the guards back in the council room anymore?'

'Nope, nothing. It looks like killing the host killed it's spawn.' Leviathan says.

'Good, then lets get going. We still need to-'

At that moment, the king opens the large double oak doors into the ballroom. He stands in the doorway, looking at you hunched over the low flames, and looks down.

"So Legion is dead then." He says, his tone sad. "I would say that's a relief, but at the same time it isn't."

>"Who was Legion? Why did you help him? Why is it a relief that he's dead? For the love of Aureus, what's going on here?"
>"People are dead, your highness. They're dead because of you. What in the Void possessed you to help one of Lilith's spies?"

"I'm guessing you did this for your son, then."

(wait for answer)

Your Majesty, you are an idiot. A flat out complete fool. Do think that if Malphas had the power to alter your son's soul, he wouldn't take the opportunity to warp it enough to change the child you know into his own slave?
>>
>>45591874
Just adding flesh or fortifying it won't do, it's a little more complicated than that. Mortals have a much smaller capacity for aether than angels or demons. The reason for this is because angels and demons are directly descended from the essence of Aureus and Malal, who were the children of the Void. The prince's problem is on more than just a physical level.
>>
>>45592056
Too much meta knowledge, friendo.

>>
>>45592064
Ah. So to fix the issue you have to either

A) Increase his aether capacity, which would likely involve changing him from a human to something else

or

B) Change his soul in some manner that would change him fundamentally.

Sounds like a bitch.
>>
>>45592120
Yes and both of these techniques require a soulcrafter, of which there are only three in existence, two of which are demons and the last is unavailable due to reasons.

You turn around and walk towards the king, blade at the ready. You don't intend to attack the king, not unless he forces your hand at least, but at this point you don't trust him one bit.

"People are dead, your highness. They're dead because of you. What in the Void possessed you to help one of Lilith's spies?"

The king continues to avert his gaze, unable to look you in the eye. Finally, he utters a single word of explanation.

"Family."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"You've met my son. I heard from him about how you came to visit him. He was...happy, to have been visited by the Champion himself. If you've seen him, then you've also seen his condition. Who knows, maybe the Sword Maiden has even told you what's wrong with him."

You pause. "His spiritual imbalance?"

"Precisely." The king says. "I spent years wondering what was wrong with my son, years and countless gold looking for a way to make him better. You've seen him lying in bed, so weak he can barely sit up. But you haven't seen his episodes. You haven't seen his eyes roll into the back of his head, seen him scream in pain, sweat pouring down his face, blood flowing down his nose. You haven't seen him wake up the next morning, barely remembering anything that happened but scared that it would happen again. I have, and I was willingly to do anything to cure him. I spent years wondering what was wrong with him...and then, one day, someone told me."

The king raises his head. "It came to me at night, passing through my window as though it weren't nothing. I was terrified, but it told me not to be afraid. It told me it knew what was wrong with my son, not only that but that he knew people who could save his life. It told me that if I would listen to it, that if I did as it told me to, it would save my son's life."
>>
>>45592287
Angels and demons are basicly the same.
Sieg made a deal with both Galadriel and Leviathan.
>>
>>45592313
"So you were willing to sacrifice the whole council?"

"It wasn't supposed to be like that!" The king shouts. "Legion told me that all I needed to do was stop Iseria from going to crusade. So when Laurentius started pushing for my support, I avoided the issue. I was told that others would handle the Champion, that I would only need to stall for time. Then they failed, and suddenly I had councilmen and a Watchtower Captain breathing down my back to go to crusade. So I called a vote, I thought I could avoid bloodshed by using politics as a shield. Then that damned Bernadotte started pulling strings, and my hands were tied."

You pause. "Wait, you were trying to avoid murder?"

"Of course I was! But then things went downhill, and Legion took things into his own hands. He killed Lord Kraemer, then he gave me an ultimatum. If the council voted in favor of the crusade, then Legion would step in and have the entire council killed along with the Champion. I was to tell everyone that the council voted against going to crusade, and that the Watchtower representatives raised arms as a result, killing the councilmen and forcing me to send my guards in to kill them. No one would be able to prove otherwise, life would go on as normal, and my son would never have to fear his episodes ever again. But now Legion is dead, and my son will surely die as well."

You've endangered your people and the entirety humanity for a glimmer of hope. I sympathize with your son and you, but I cannot condone the action regardless. >>45592393
As it turns out, the child's illness was due to a rare phenomenon in which his soul was too large for his body to handle. According to Galadriel, this imbalance will kill the prince if not treated, but the only people Galadriel knows could help him are Malaphas, Alastor, and an angel in the Void named Suriel. After promising to visit the prince again some time, you returned to your room for the night.
From the opening post of thread 49
>>
>>45592418
I was referring to the personal guarantee to the king that winning the crusade and driving Malphas back to the void will bring the angels back to Mundus. That is still a fairly big 'if' given the Angel's current leadership.
>>
>>45592447
I might need Sparks word on this but I am pretty sure the main rule was: As long as demons are on the mortal plane, the angels will stay in the Void.

Or something along those lines.

And like I said, I wasn't making guarantees.
>>
>>45592322
"You actually believed a demon? What makes you think they would have actually saved your son even after you did as they said?"

"What choice did I have?!" The king shouts. "My son is dying, and there are only three people in the entire world that can save his life, two of which are demons and one is an angel. At least if I did as I was told, there was a chance they would save my son. What else could I do, pray to the angels and hope for a miracle? Ha! The angels abandoned us millennia ago, and no amount of pleading has made them come back yet."

You feel a pang of guilt coming from Galadriel at the mention of her kind. You have to admit, the king has a point. All the angels save Galadriel abandoned humanity millennia ago, so as far as the king was concerned, his options were to abandon his kingdom or abandon his son. You sympathize, you honestly do, but you still couldn't condone what the king had done.

"I sympathize with you, but that doesn't excuse betraying your kingdom, betraying humanity as a whole. You will have to answer for what you've done."

The king hangs his head and nods. "You're absolutely right. I don't claim that what I've done is right, but I would do it again if it would save my son. I've already lost my wife, I wouldn't be able to stand it if I lost my son as well. And you're right, I will have to answer to my crimes. But it will not be to the council."
>>
>>45592591
"What are you trying to say?" You ask, worried by the tone his voice has taken.

"I've lost too much, Champion. I've lost my wife, I've lost the trust of my people, and soon I will lose my son as well. The council will surely see my head roll, so if I am to return to the Void then at the very least I will return to it on my own terms."

At this, the king reaches for the dagger sheathed on his belt and place it's blade towards his heart.

"Your highness, what are you doing?!"

"Champion, I am in no place to make requests, but please grant me this one. Please, save my people, and if you can, I beg of you...save my boy."

The king raises his dagger into the air, intending to plunge it into his own heart. You dash forward on impulse, reaching for the king's hand...

>>
>>45592601
You dash forward on impulse, reaching out and staying the king's hand before he can plunge the dagger into his heart.

"Let me go!" The king shouts, tears streaming from his eyes.

You get a hold of the king's dagger and wrench it out of his hands, tossing all the way across the ballroom floor.

"Dammit, what's the point in stopping me?! Do you honestly believe the council will allow me to live after what I've done? I wouldn't accept a pardon even if they did offer me one."

"Either way, it would be cowardly of you to do this rather than accept responsibility for your actions. You've already betrayed your son, at the very least you should own up to what you've done."

The king falls silent. Holding onto his arm, you begin guiding the king down the hallway, back towards the council room.

'What do you suppose the council will do with him?' Galadriel asks.

'I don't know. Most likely they'll have him beheaded I suppose.'

'Do you think that's for the best?'

You sigh. 'Frankly, I don't know what's for the best. I sympathize with him, but I can't condone anything he's done either. He definitely needs to be punished, but I'm not sure there's any happy ending here.'

'...Perhaps you are right. I suppose it will be up to the council to decide what will happen to him.'
>>
Think I'm going to call it a night here folks. Was expecting to get further than this, but the thread took longer than I originally expected. So, this thread isn't the end of the arc, but it's damn near. Next thread will probably just be wrapping up loose ends, then the crusades will have officially begun.

Thanks for playing everyone, I'll probably run the next thread sometime next week, though I don't know if I'll be able to run on a weekly basis again like I used to yet. Rest assured though, I'm not going anywhere. So long as people are still interested in reading HSQ, I'll keep writing it.
