He seems to have curly, silver hair. Walking among a field of bodies and blades, his blue and white kimono seems to mostly be intact, aside from a few blood splatters. You presume that they're not his own, and your group all tightens up as he starts to approach you. The man calls out from across the desert.

"An impressive force of Shinobi. The Leaf and the Sand, working in unison. A wonderful sight to see, truly."

Katsuro steps forward. "Hotaka! You're outnumbered! You saw what we did to your band, so just give up! Wherever the rest of your insurgents are hiding, we'll snuff them out too!"

In the distance, a light twinkles briefly. Mari shouts. "Get down!"

You all do as you're told, and cover your head with a dive. A crescent blade of wind flies just overhead.

You all stand, and grit your teeth. Ollie chuckles. "What a response.."

Hotaka holds a single handsign, and a card of paper in the other. The paper has a glowing kanji on it, and it begins to float in front of him.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

The kanji burns into ash, and a second later there's an explosion of dust. In front of Hotaka is a gigantic Hercules Beetle, with tribal white designs painted onto it's black carapace. Hotaka leaps on top of it, and laughs.

The beetle inhales deeply, before spraying some sort of liquid in the direction of your group!

In a rush, you preform the handsigns for a new False Sound Jutsu, this one connected to everyone on the team. "Everyone, dodge! Those who can, counter attack! The slower ones will watch your backs!"

At once, the team leaps in various directions. You in particular go to the left, along with Katsurom and Mari. To the right goes Kasagi and Mataro.

The two fastest members of your team, Ollie and Saitama, attack as they leap forward and directly over the gigantic beetle, easily a story high. Hotaka watches them go, a grin on his face that worries you. Looking to the left, you try to study the liquid substance that's spreading along the ground currently. From what you can tell, it isn't oil or acid, but possibly poison. Slowly, it begins to harden and form a thick, concrete like substance.

So, it's made to trap. Of course, that would be pretty terrible if you got some in your mouth or throat, as well. You mentally warn everyone of the substance that the beetle can spit, and turn just in time to look at Ollie and Saitama attack.

Saitama holds up a single of his explosive shuriken. "This is the last one of these I have..after this, I'm resorting to close range attacks."

Ollie grins. "That is perfect, then. Perhaps I should give it everything I have, in that case!"

Ollie stands straight, and the chakra around him rapidly flares as he opens the first gate with a brief struggle. The muscles on his body bulge, and he takes a combat stance. "Ready!"

Saitama grins. "Go!"

He throws his explosive shuriken at the beetle, but the iron hard carapace mostly absorbs it, save for a single crack.

Ollie grins. "That's all I need!"

He bursts forward at a speed greater than Saitama's own, and extends his leg. "Dynamic Entry!!!"

Hotaka throws down a paper with a kanji attached, and forms a handsign. "Barrier Seal!"

At once, another invisible barrier protects the beetle from Lee's attack, as the kanji floats in the air. It shudders as his kick strikes it, and he spins around and kicks it a second time, before continuing with a flurry of punches.

"Ha! ORRRA!!"

He lands, and though the barrier is still in tact and his fists are bloody, he isn't done.

Hotaka is drawing another seal on a piece of paper, and he grins. "You're a disciple of the legendary Might Guy, or perhaps a student of his student then?! The 8 Gates are a powerful technique indeed, but it will take more than a Genin's Taijutsu to beat a Jounin, no matter how good it is!"

Ollie tucks in his fists at his side, and yells. "The Second Gate! Gate of Healing, Open!"

This rejuvenates his body after the damage caused by the first burst, and he leaps in for an even more powerful attack. "Leaf Combo Attaaack!!"

Three kicks in a row, all creating blasts of wind from the strength. The first cracks the barrier, and the second shatters it. He hits the ground and dashes forward at a blinding speed, before thrusting his leg out again. "Dynamic Entry!!"

This time, he hits the beetle dead on. It's shell is cracked in the same spot to a devastating degree, and the beast cries out in pain oddly. it comes flying towards the place you all had been, and lands in the concrete substance. It stands and turns to face Lee.

Hotaka has the seal he drew in his hand.

You mentally tell everyone of the functions of the seals, in case they haven't noticed. You ask Mari to go and support Ollie, as you know that soon he'll be weak to a counter. You ask Katsuro to help you take out Hotaka, while Kasagi and Mataro deal with the beetle. Your group all leaps into action at your command, and when you jump forward, you suddenly find a platform of iron sand underneath your feet as you fly forward.

Looking over to Katsuro, he grins slyly while flying next to you.

You draw a large number of weapons and throw them all towards Hotaka, as well as summoning a number of poison senbon from your wrist. You remember that you have quite a variety of powerful poison, if you need it as well. Katsuro causes senbon to fire from both of your platforms, attacking the enemy from two angles in addition to your weapons. The iron sand and your steel rain down on the beetle's shell, though Hotaka leaps into the air.

Ollie Chan leaps up to finish him, preparing to use the Primary Lotus from what you can see. However, Hotaka spins around and slaps the seal in his hand against Ollie's chest, and it burns away, imprinting the kanji on his clothing. "8 Gate Seal! The Second!"

At once, Ollie loses all his momentum and begins to drop to the ground. Saitama leaps in and catches him, while Mari takes his place against the pursuing Hotaka. She weaves around his punch, and thrusts a two fingered jab just under his arm. With his other, Hotaka takes a seal from a pouch on his side, and spins forward to slap it onto Mari's right arm. The seal burns away, as he holds a handsign, and leaps away from Mari's strikes. "Paralyze!"

Her right arm goes limp, and the beetle turns and sprays that liquid at all of them as they jump away. From the other side, Mataro's skin is completely enveloped in the stone armor from the Chunin Exams. He looks over his shoulder. "Okay, Kasagi. Do it just like we practiced, alright? I don't want anything unexpected happening."

She grins, although he can't see it through her metallic visor. "Of course."

The midsection of her armor separates at the center, breaking off as she catches it. She throws the pieces towards Mataro, where they slam against his shoulders the mechanisms within begin to reshape them into metallic armor for her ally.

She kicks towards him twice, breaking away sections of her leg armor to coat his arms.

Mataro runs forwards, a mixture of bloodline technique and technology empowering him. A rocket boosted punch causes him to soar forward, and he strikes the beetle's weak spot and shatters it completely before kneeling down for an uppercut.

The rockets are pushed to their maximum limit, controlled by Kagasi. The punch sends the giant beetle into the air, about one story high.

Kagasi and Katsuro waste no time, and attack. The iron sand from the beetle's back disperses and forms a platform under it, holding it there.

Kagasi preforms the same flame technique as before, directly at the iron platform, igniting it. They both yell the name of their unison technique.

"Sand Style! Frying Pan to Fire!"

The beetle roars as it's roasted, and Hotaka watches from the ground in somewhat stunned amusement. The red hot iron sand dissipates and drops the beetle into the fire, before twisting into a pillar and slamming down, squashing it's weakened armor completely.

While Ollie retreats, the rest of your team approaches Hotaka from every angle. Katsuro decides to take the lead. "There's no chance for you to escape all of us, now that it's just you. We may just be Chunin and Genin, but when you're the absolute cream of the crop, titles become just that. Titles."

Hotaka looks around him, admittedly in a desperate situation. He draws a seal from his weapon's pouch, and looks at it. "I understand the situation I'm in, I believe. I'll have to resort to a higher level of power then I thought.."

The white haired man places the seal on his forehead, and forms a handsign. "Absolute Order: Seal of Punishment One!"

Katsuro's eyes go wild, and everyone leaps back. At once, the kanji spreads in the form of tattoo all across Hatoko's body, repeating various laws. They start to glow bright blue as they finish, and the Jounin stands confident. He looks towards the weakened Mari, and holds out a hand. He yells the name of a technique, without forming a handsign. "Bind"!

Amazingly, the law tattoos on his body extend off his hand into the air, flying a snake towards Mari until they wrap around her and begin to constrict. She tears them away with a burst of chakra, and draws a sword from her Kimono with her good arm. "Byakugan!"

She leaps forward, and with her good hand, begins to swing her sword fast enough to attack sixty four times in the space of several seconds. It's a technique that she's capable of preforming with several weapons, and this is certainly one of the most powerful.

Hakoto manages to defend, however. "Barrier! Block! Counter!"

She breaks the barrier, and her sword rebounds against the block before striking against the final wall. She feels the force of her own blow reflected against her in Counter, and you believe you now understand that Hotaka can activate the series of kanji seals on his body to attack and defend.

Mari spins around for a final sword swing, but Hotaka holds up a hand. "Repulse!"

She's blasted backwards, and the tattoo on his hand dissipates.

Saitama picks her up, and retreats with her as well. It's you, Katsuro, Kasagi, and Mataro. You could retreat and heal, of course, and Saitama will return to to support them.

You sprint forward, and draw your tanto in hand. You mentally order the others to support you and try to force an opening for you to utilize your poison, which will certainly end the fight. Katsuro fires off spears of iron sand, all of which Hotaka dodges and blocks with his seals as he moves towards Mataro, who punches with a rocket boosted fist before jumping into the air.

Hotaka points his hand upwards, and points. "Bind!"

Just as Mataro curls into a ball to attack, the sealing words wrap around him. Hotaka slings your ally down and around, nearly striking you with him as he crashes into the ground. You leap to the right, and Kasagi rushes past you with the chakra blade from before extended on the wrist of her puppet.

You use Shunshin, and dash forward. Katsuro's iron sand flies behind you, and you know that he's preparing a second attack.

Hotaka's left palm glows bright. "Summoning Jutsu!"

A longsword appears in his hand, and he holds it up to block Kagasi's chakra blade, though he's pushed back by the jets in her machine.

He yells "Repulse!" and she's blasted backwards, flipping once before asserting herself in the air. Hokata holds up both fists, and thrusts them forward. "Summoning Jutsu!"

Half a Kanji was written on both of his palms, and as they come together, they form tattoo which brings forth a single kunai with at least a dozen explosive tags on it like leaves.

Kagasi's eyes go wide, and the explosion sends her flying out of control, and she hits the ground.

You run forward, and jump into the air. Just then, Katsuro's iron sand creates a platform underneath you and attacks with a storm of Senbon. Rushing next to you on the ground, is Saitama, his own tanto drawn. Hotaka kicks, the bottoms of his feet tattood as well. Each one is a summoning jutsu, releasing a Fuuma Shuriken.

It takes only a moment to unfold your own and sling it forward. The first is blocked, and the iron sand deflects the second from Saitama. The speed Sand shinobi leaps into the air and spins rapidly, utilizing the technique that he used against Yasu in the tournament. The speedy axe kick forces Hotaka to use his Block Seal, deflecting the kick.

You leap from the iron sand, and stab at him with your Tanto, yelling. Of course, he uses the Counter Seal, and you're deflected backwards by your own weapon. However, as you're falling back, you summon the senbon coated in insect venom on your right hand. Drawing it close to your chest, you sling your one hope at the enemy in a last ditch effort.

Hotaka doesn't even see the senbon, before it sticks into his neck. Saitama was rushing at him from a distance at full speed, and when he breezes by and swings his tanto, Hotaka's head falls to the ground.

You hit the ground, looking at the blue sky.

Paralysis successful.

You stand up, and promptly begin the steps to healing everyone as you need to. Saitama goes to investigate the survivors, and he returns with them moments later, as it seems the remaining criminals have disbanded upon seeing their largest force defeated. The survivors all return safely home, save for one you could do nothing for.

Defeating Hotaka is an impressive feat as well, and your entire team will be decorated for this achievement. You gather his corpse and set off to the border, where you have a bit of time to rest before you depart with your team.

You go around, congratulating everyone, when you notice Roku relatively unharmed, chatting up a guard of the border that seems to be quite the cute girl. You step on over. "Hey, wait a second! Where were you during the fight against Hotaka!?"

Roku turns, his arms crossed. "I was escorting some wounded survivors, as well as more fully healing the ones at the border. Katsuro ordered me back here to assist. If you had retreated, me and the border guards would have backed you up. But you didn't need that, right killer?" He grins, and you can't help but sigh in resignation. At least he was slacking off for a good purpose, in a way.

Everyone else seems to be a combination of tired, and happy. You inspect Ollie and Mari, and it seems that both will need rest before you're ready to set off on a hike again, so you'll need to stay the night here at the border guards.

This particular facility is a large wall built into a rock formation, turned into a building. There are several bedrooms inside, and enough dry food for everyone to have a snack.

Katsuro and his team depart, thanking you for your cooperation. They take Hotaka's body.

You yourself rest a fair bit more before the next morning, sleeping soundly. You get your team ready for travel the next day, almost at one hundred percent.

Ollie Chan stands up and stretches, yawning loudly. Birds fly towards the forest in the distance, and you step out the door of the rocky building, to see Roku chatting up the border guard again. You look over, and see Mari staring out at the forest. You know that she could see you, even before you left the building. You walk over with a sly smile on your face, and turn to look at her though she doesn't do the same for you. "Working on the next underhanded way to say I shouldn't be a Chunin?"

She turns, and sharply furrows her brow. "Hey! I'm not that mean, you know. I think..you've proven that you're more than deserving. But, you also should know, you're a much different person than the one I met before, months ago!"

You blink. "Huh? What do you mean? I don't really feel any different."

She smiles. "Of course you wouldn't, with the attitude you have. You've got a lot to back it up now, though. So maybe I shouldn't give you so much of it, right? I mean, you did beat me, after all."

You shrug. "Maybe. But if you weren't so spunky, you wouldn't just completely be Mari I think."

She chuckles. "Jeez, what a moronic thing to say."

Roku steps over, his hands in his pockets. "That's what we're used to."

Ollie also walks over. "Is everyone ready?? I have trail mix, if anyone would like some, on the way."

You turn to him. "By the way, I want to commend you in particular, Ollie. You were an awesome team player!"

He smiles, thrilled by he praise. "T-thank you Takeshi! I'm sure that Lee sensei will be amazed at the story of this mission!"

Nearly ready, you turn to Mari before you leave. "Oh yeah, thanks for saving me with that Rotation, too. Chunin or not, I'd have been mush.

She grins, and teases you. "Well, what would we have done without our brave leader?"

I'm actually a big fan of the more compact way Mini handles dialogue. Sure it can lead to some Mass Effect moments but in general it strikes a good balance between player agency and concise storytelling.
