You beat Cliff, the first Elite 4 member, and you beat him hard. The crowds cheer, te jumbo screen shows replays, and eventually you’re led off the arena.

A mic is shoved in your face and you give a quick interview. It’s all fluff stuff. You’re getting pretty used to this sort of thing.

Your mind is a million miles away. You’re still reeling from the rush of the match, of mega-evolving Oberon, and everything else.

You sign a few autographs on autopilot, smile, thank fans, and eventually your friends intervene to pull you away.

They all congratulate you too. Robin gives you a shy, sweet little peck on the cheek as she compliments your showing. Vance is impressed by how strong your Pokemon are. Jeanine is just impressed.

Clair mumbles a congratulations and tries to avoid eye contact. She did say you that you might be a bit out of your league before.

“Y-you were amazing,” Robin repeats as she clings to your arm. You can sense just a hint of apprehension though. No, more like...intimidation? Either way, feeling her cling to your arm as she looks up at you is pretty nice. “So... commanding.” She also puts a hand on your forehead. “You’re okay, right?”

You reassure her. You’re just tired. Mega-evolution, especially the first time, takes a bit out of you.

Clair looks at you, expecting a snarky remark. You deliver none.

You get your Pokemon back from the nurse. You always feel relieved after a Pokemon Center visit. It’s the peace of mind from knowing your Pokemon are refreshed and healthy.

“Aren’t you going to say anything?” She folds her arms awkwardly over her weighty chest. She still hasn’t gotten the hang of navigating those things.

“About what?”

She huffs in frustration. “I know you know what.” She walk along the other side of you.

You smile. “Thanks for worrying.”

She looks away. “You’re the worst. I hate you.”

When Robin runs ahead to chat with Jeanine, you lean to Clair. “Hey, what do you think about Robin’s chances?”

She thinks hard. “She’s going to crumble when she fights her dad.”

You can tell she really didn’t want to say that. You can’t get any follow-up because Robin returns, smiling and practically hopping.

Violet pauses in the hallway, then turns around. “What was that?”

There’s something about her aura that messes with you. You fight against the urge to shrink, and instead push forward. “Come back here and apologize to Robin.”

She assess you, then turns soft. “Oh. Of course, Kat. Whatever you say.” She wipes the tear from Robin, “I’m sorry, dear. You know I’m just trying to push you to do your best. I suppose I go too far sometimes. I’m glad that Kat is here and cares enough to help me with my flaws, just like I’m sure she cares enough to hurt your feelings and help you with yours.”

“I-i-it’s...o.. I mean, I..” Robin stutters.

“I’m sure you’ll get the hang of that one day, dear,” she gives Robin to soft taps on the cheek and walks away.

“I hate that woman so much,” Clair mutters.

“Don’t pay attention to her,” you tell Robin. “She’s just trying to drive a wedge between us.”

You lead her back into the room. “Come on, let’s study for your match.”

Robin doesn’t say much, except to mumble an apology to everyone for yet again causing them trouble. You ask her some questions and miscellaneous Pokemon facts until she gets into the groove doing research and starts to lighten up a bit.

Kat has a pretty powerful poison aura right?
That's how people become so "infected" with her personality. We got Robin to be stronger and Clair to open up and even had a moment with Robin's dad and Dick when we didn't start getting hostile. The only people it doesn't see to work on are Violet, a powerful aura user, Delmer and Hornbrew, although we haven't really tried with the latter two.

You let your Pokemon out and they lounge around the room. It gets a little crowded with Levi, but she’s happy to just nap in a circle and get warmth from the smaller Pokemon using her as a bed.

You’ll study with Robin for a bit, do some training, then call it a day. You know you won’t be able to relax if you let precious training time slip away.

“Watcha looking up?”

Robin looks up. It’s only time’s like this where you can actually see the difference between her real eye and her fake one. Her real one is a bit bloodshot from crying, and the colour is a bit off because of the extra moisture. She seems a lot better now though. She smiles at you.

“Sandstorm. Cliff’s sandstorm is made up of finer particles than normal.” There are also books on wind patterns and a weather forecast on the tv. “I think I have a plan for tomorrow, but it’s a secret!” She winks playfully.

“I can’t wait.”

She closes the book. “I need to take a break from this. I can’t look at another wind pattern chart. What are you looking up?”

You think she’s trying a bit too hard to be fun. You can tell that deep down she’s still pretty crushed, but you pretend not to notice.

“Okay, so I’ve seen her battle in footage before with my dad, and you battled her before too. I noticed a few things.”

You put Robin on your lap and spend some time going over everything publicly available about Emma, as well as your impressions from your battle and things Robin has noticed.

Robin twists and squirms. You’ve been slowly moving your hands to feel her up as she’s been talking.

“Kat!” She whispers, trying not to let any of the others hear. The only one in the room that noticed is Vlad. He just gives an upside-down salute from his hanging spot on the ceiling, then swoops down to check out the other rooms in this suite.

You go over her battle strategies. Emma seems to be pretty flexible, waiting for her opponent to show their hand and adjust accordingly. She likes to keep her distance when first seeing a new opponent, and avalanching on them after she learns what they’re planning.

Robin needs to go back to studying Cliff. You smack her on the butt as a thanks for her help, and head outside to train. She pretends not to like it as much as she does.

You’re exhausted. This has been a long day. But time is short, and you can’t afford to slack off now.

You decide to work on his speed. He’s by no means slow, especially when he mega-evolves, but you know that even a fraction of a second can be all it takes to turn a Pokemon battle on it’s head.

You play a game where you have him sit at a distance away from you, and you toss a treat up in the air. If he’s not fast enough, it lands in puddle.

“Come on, boy! That’s it!” He gets faster and faster on each pass. You decide to change it up a bit and have Aria and Raistlin use telekinesis to move it around, forcing Devon to not sacrifice accuracy or balance.

Whoo. You sit down and take a break. You’re beat.

But the results are worth it. Devon’s picked up a lot in a short period.

You wonder how fast he can move when mega-evolved. You’re pooped, and you know your mega-evolution is a bit rusty from your mental escapades, but you and Devon are also pretty in the zone right now.
