You are TR-1000, a cyborg from the future, part-time professional poker player, world's greatest onii-chan, and you're not against incest.

...Wait, almost none of those things are true.

"Almost? So one of them is true?"

"...Moeka? Is that you?"

"That's right, Ryouta-kun. I'm glad you've recognized me just by the sound of my angelic voice. It's me, the Shooting Star of Popularity Polls and Shinigami Quest's main heroine, Kirino Moeka!"

"I recognized you not by the sound of your voice, but by the nonsense you're spouting."

"I'll take that as a compliment to the uniqueness of my character."

"You probably shouldn't. So where are we? Why are we standing around in this nondescript white void? Why is there nothing here?"

"We're staying faithful to the source material."

"Ah, I see. And for a minute there, I thought we somehow ended up inside your head. Because it's empty in here, you know?"

"...My, my, aren't you being more than a little snarky today, Ryouta-kun. Are emotions not a prerequisite for sarcastic quips?"

"Apparently not. But please explain what's going on here. If not for me, then for the people that were looking forward to seeing the storyline advance today."

"On April First, for one day only, the world becomes a non-canon meta void of frozen space and time. We can do and say anything we like and it won't reflect on the canon! So I'm planning to dedicate this time of near omnipotence not to understanding the mysteries of the main plotline, but on spending an entire thread making jokes and recapping everything that's happened in the Quest so far."

"This really doesn't need such an intricate explanation. It's the funniest day of the year, and it unfortunately also happens to be Friday, so here we are. Because this is non-canon, I no longer need to remain polite in public. I am free to speak my mind, so I will. Brace yourself, Kirino Moeka."

"That's right. Embrace the lawlessness and lack of restraint. Let your imagination run wild! This is even better than walking around naked! You can do anything!"

"Please keep your clothes on. But if what you're saying is true, then I should be able to turn into a Dragon. Here, let me try..."

"Wow, you actually did it! But I didn't know Dragons were tall, handsome and red haired."

"We're starting off this recap with a joke that not one new reader could possibly understand. Are you sure making you the co-host was a good idea?"

"If we casually spout inside jokes without paying any heed to something like that, they'll feel like they were here from the very beginning, Ryouta-kun."

"...Let's just get this started."

You are Tsukuda Ryouta. At the start of your story, you were a trainee at the Shin'o Academy. In a way, it all began in the Human World, when a Soul Burial practice turned into a live Hollow hunting exercise. You fared about as well as you could - following your training, you went for a blow to the back of the monster's head, and had you had enough proficiency at the time, the impromptu exercise would have been cleared; however, it was not.

In the end, you were saved. A fellow trainee named Ryuu - simply Ryuu, without a family name - stepped in to buy you some time until the Shinigami could take care of the Hollow. They didn't succeed - after dealing three casualties to the ranks of the trainees, the monster escaped. Fortunately, neither you nor your newfound red haired friend were among them.

The Shin'o Academy separates each year's students into several groups. You and Ryuu were both part of Class #2, a class that follows the standard Shinigami training curriculum, while Class #1 uses a special, accelerated program. That difference in training served as a cause for rivalry between the two classes, and it grew bitter enough to force the higher-ups to take action.

Their decision was a tournament. Settling the dispute with a series of everything-goes battles.

Just as fate would have it, you drew the worst lot - your first opponent was the golden haired, cold-eyed prodigy Takenaka Hanae. You weren't expected to win. Even so, you've asked Minami Hikari - one of the Shinigami that was present during the Soul Burial incident - to tutor you and help you improve the odds. Her expertise lied in Kido, so that's what you improved. Your efforts were fruitful, putting you near the top of your class in that particular area.

>almost none of those things are true.
Miyu/Shiori route confirmed.
>>
>>46393519
You met Takenaka Hanae before the battle started. She seemed hesitant to make friends, especially once you had named yourself. You didn't become friends, but you were by no means enemies, either.

When the match began, the difference in strength proved too much. You held on for as long as you could, but a single opening cost you the entire battle. Class #2 faced defeat, but they put up quite a fight before they were done. The relationships between the classes improved, and that was what mattered at the time.

As graduation neared, you had to decide on your future as a Shinigami. Ryuu intended to join the 11th Division, Zaraki Kenpachi's fighting crew; Minami Hikari was already part of the 13th Division, and Takenaka Hanae joined the First Division as part of the elite.

Urahara Kisuke, Captain of the 12th Division, appeared at the Academy personally in order to seek recruits. The Division had taken severe losses after a disastrous incident involving Kurotsuchi Mayuri's abominable experiments, and as such, was in dire need of new people in its ranks. Thanks to your analytically structured mind, you had not only received a recommendation, but the offer of a unique post as an investigator of abnormal occurrences. The job was highly paid but lacked in prestige, as it was an unofficial position. But fame and prestige were never of importance. So when faced with that decision, the choice was rather easy to make.

Thus began your life as Tsukuda Ryouta, a Shinigami of the 12th Division.

Soon after, you were able to return to your family home in the First District of the Rukongai, to visit your adoptive mother Tsukuda Shiori. It was around that time that one thing became abundantly clear about Tsukuda Ryouta - he has no tastes, no preferences, and no personal opinions. Whoever he is, whatever he is, Tsukuda Ryouta is incapable of feeling emotions.

"Well, let's take a brief break here, everyone. We're a Quest Thread, not a Text Thread, so we should give our precious readers some time to shine!"

"You forgot what happened after that, so you need some time to read up on the details, isn't that right?"

"Don't be silly. We're still yet to reach my favorite arc, and I obviously came here prepared to rush through things in order to get there."

"There were a lot of words used over the course of the threads. There's no shame in admitting it, Moeka."

"...Well, yeah, you're right. I could use a bit of a refresher..."

"So you do admit it."

"Eh?! You said you wouldn't make fun of me for that!"

"I said no such thing. Are you sure making you a co-host was a good idea?"

"This is the second time you're asking that question, you cruel bully. Do you really doubt my charisma that much, Ryouta-kun?"

"Wouldn't having the previous protagonist as the co-host be a better idea?"

"Of course not. You have no synergy at all. And besides, not everyone who's reading this quest has read the other quest. It'd be a confusing mess."

"Even more than it already is? That's a scary thought."

"But it's not like we can't call those guys in for the QA sessions, you know!"

"There are going to be QA sessions?"

"Heh heh heh. Did you really think that we'd do something like this without character QA sessions? The main appeal of quests is player interaction, Ryouta-kun. For example, here comes our first vote of the thread: who would you like to be the co-host of this special April's Fools thread?"

"Are you trying to hide a character popularity poll behind this vote?"

"Heh heh heh. What could possibly make you think that? Anyway, first character to reach 20 votes becomes the new co-host instead of me."

"That's an impossible condition. Do we even have that many readers? You're not getting away with this, Moeka."

"Rules are rules, Ryouta-kun. You can't stop me, so don't even try. Here we go!"

"'Moeka is perfect?' That seems like a completely unrelated statement. Shouldn't it be 'Moeka is fine' in order to make contextual sense?"

"I... didn't get a single point... Even the morally ambiguous, shady, middle-aged, perverted scientist got a vote..."

"There were only five votes total, Moeka. If we had a pool of like a hundred to work with, and you still didn't get any points even then, then that's when you should get depressed."

"...Are you trying to encourage me, Ryouta-kun?"

"Well, I wouldn't say that..."

"...Thanks. I feel a bit better now... You'd... you'd vote for me if you could, right?"

"No, I'd vote for Shiori."

"Damn it! Well, this doesn't change anything! That woman is still 16 votes short of replacing me! Heh heh heh!"

"Why couldn't the co-host have been my mother instead?"

"Nobody wants to see you two incestuous lovebirds going at it for a whole non-canon day. It'd tickle everyone's Platypus complex and make people uncomfortable."

"...Oedipus complex."

"I've never heard of that animal."

"There's nothing even remotely incestuous about our relationship. Don't project your sister complex on me."

"Sister complex? Don't be so naive, Ryouta-kun. Me and Minami-chan aren't blood related."

She says that while puffing her chest out with pride, as if that's a bragging point of some kind.

"...You're baiting me to say 'we aren't blood related either', aren't you? That would make it seem like I do feel strangely towards my family. It won't work. But you implicated yourself, though."

"Drats. As expected of you to turn the tables on me like this, Ryouta-kun. Now I'll be forever portrayed as performing illicit and lewd acts with my almost-sister Minami-chan. Oh no~, what will happen to my image and popularity? Think of all the doujins and ero fanworks~!"

"We don't have anything like that."

"Even so, I remain optimistic for the future. Brace yourselves, new readers! Here comes the second part of the Quest Recap!"

"I think any new readers we may have had have already left."

Moeka gets busy with the second part. Tsukuda Ryouta whispers something into the void. "By the way... No one has closed the co-host voting. It'll be open the whole thread. Please vote for your favorite character. We can fight back against her tyranny."

The second part of the Recap is coming right up.

Give it a minute or 30.

Moeka perks up again. "You can ask the hosts questions in the meantime! Any questions! We'll answer them while the second part is getting made!"

>Moeka is perfect.
Sorry, but for situations like this, a proper Boke and Tsukomi duo is essential. Otherwise we've just got varying degrees of shy, stuffy, and stoic, with I guess the exception of Ryuu, whose epitaph makes me think we should hang out more.
>>
>>46394435
>Ryouta, why did you stay in the room when Moeka was just in her underwear? Isn't being perverted an emotion?
"Sorry, you misunderstand. I didn't feel anything as I stayed in the room with Moeka in just her underwear. The only internal conflict I had at the time was whether I should humor her and react to her obvious provocativeness and respond with politeness and manners, or if I should simply ignore her antics and step into the room in order to get things done. As you recall, I chose the latter."

Moeka pouts. "If it's not the body of a close relative, Ryouta-kun has no interest in it."

"That's not true. Lust is a natural reproductive impulse, so while I haven't experienced it yet, I do not believe that it is impossible for me."

"That's pretty lewd... I want to answer a lewd question, too!"

"Please stop acting so desperate for popularity. You'll depress someone."

>>46394500
>I know that Yoruichi is still gone under very suspicious circumstances, but has Tessai also disappeared? And either way, has anyone noticed?
Moeka nods. "They're both gone. Obviously, the disappearance of the Kido Corps Captain and the 2nd Division Captain - and a head of a major Noble House and the head of a heck of a lot of other things, at that - has caused a huge uproar when it happened. But that was a long time ago, and Soul Society has recovered and made the appropriate replacements since then."

"I don't think Captain had said anything concrete about them even to the higher-ups, though. Perhaps the question here isn't what he's hiding, but how he's able to get away with hiding it?"

Moeka bobs her head up and down a few times in smug, sagely nods. "Truly, a mystery of the biggest proportions."

>Ryouta, does anyone besides you, Shiori, and Urahara know you have a new sister? Surely Shiori can't be THAT much of a shut in.
"Mother is quite the shut in, but I'd be surprised if nobody else knew by now. The neighbors have probably noticed. I don't believe we were told to keep Miyu secret, so I doubt mother would go through the effort of hiding her."

"I don't know anything about that canonically yet, but... don't do anything weird to her, Ryouta-kun."

"...You have a very one-track mind, Moeka. But I suppose I should appreciate the concern. No, should I be offended instead...?"

"If you're bullying someone like me so much, then how could I trust you with a girl even smaller than me?"

"...Is that what you meant? Nevermind, then."

"Huh?"

"Please get back to writing the recap."

Moeka, is Ryouta very well known? What do people say about him behind his back?
>>
>>46394690
>Moeka, I know that Shunsui is really easygoing, but how did you get away from being constantly lectured by that lieutenant of his? She seems like she runs a tight ship in her captain's stead.
"The Lieutenant may be strict, but I suspect that even she has a limited amount of patience."

"Don't answer questions meant for me, Ryouta-kun! Basically, the Lieutenant may be a hag, but I'm kind of used to her by now and I more or less know how to deal with her. Most of the time. And if I ever feel like she's being mean to me for no reason, I just talk to the Captain and it all works out. You know, if he wasn't so old, he'd be pretty dreamy... Cool guys are my type."

"That's a very loose typing, isn't it?"

"Rest assured, Ryouta-kun. You fall under that type."
>>
>>46394845
>Moeka, is Ryouta very well known? What do people say about him behind his back?
"Nobody ever hears anything cool about the 12th Division guys. I mean, they make useful stuff all the time, but they've always been the shady, nerdy 12th Division and not separately famous inventors or anything like that. Urahara Kisuke and Kurotsuchi Mayuri are both well-known, obviously, and Sarugaki Hiyori is kind of infamous for her ill temper, but nobody cares about anyone under those people. I can't - and I don't think anyone I know can - name any of the seated officers in the 12th Division. It's not that the information is hard to get, it's just that nobody cares. So, Ryouta-kun falls under that kind of 'unknown' category. Outside of whatever circle of friends he may have, Ryouta-kun isn't known at all. Ah, well, of course, I talk with Minami-chan about him sometimes."

"What do you talk about?"

Moeka shrugs, smirking mischievously. "Various girl things."

"Girl things? I'm not sure I'm following you."

"Curious, aren'tcha? Well, don't fret. I never hide what I think about you, Ryouta-kun. Have a little more confidence in yourself! And if you're curious about what Minami-chan thinks about you... You're gonna have to find that out yourself! This may be a non-canon world, but metagaming still isn't allowed."

Is there any reason why we haven't copied Urahara's release for when we really need to wreck things?
>>
>>46395697
We haven't seen it
>>
Before proceeding further into the events of the story, an important detail should be elaborated on. Urahara Kisuke, the current Captain of the 12th Division, took up his post after Kurotsuchi Mayuri was exiled from Soul Society after botching an experiment and releasing his test subjects out into the Seireitei. However, such an event required Urahara Kisuke to have lost his position in the first place. It occurred several decades prior to the accident revolving around Mayuri, during Aizen Sosuke's betrayal, the so-called Hollowification incident.

How could it be then, that Aizen Sosuke is still Captain of the 5th after his betrayal, even with Urahara Kisuke at an adjacent post?

The Hogyoku's powers were used against the traitor, teleporting both parts of the orb to places unknown. The subsequent battle between the traitors resulted in the 12th Captain's injuries which had supposedly taken him several decades to heal, after which Urahara Kisuke somehow managed to 'neutralize' Aizen without killing him. He left the details of his methods purposefully vague. Even that deep into the conspiracy, he was unwilling to let you know.

But even with that problem out of the way, a loose end remained, and still does to this day - namely, the Hogyoku. The wish-granting orb must be sought out, and it was actually for this specific purpose that someone with your unique analytical ability had been employed. You were sent on several missions since you became part of the 12th, but the results were never relevant to your main goal.

Ryuu and the 12th Division's Lieutenant, Sarugaki Hiyori, both became aware of Tsukuda Ryouta's eerie condition, and they hadn't taken to it well. Your Lieutenant nearly threatened you not to face her again until you get yourself in order, and testing that threat for depth wasn't something you were eager to do.

(1/2)
>>
>>46395697
Urahara's not gonna show us his shikai because he doesn't trust us fully?

Also releasing shikai within the seireitei is frowned upon, if not outright illegal, unless there's an invasion.
>>
>>46395713
Then came your biggest mission yet. You were to track down a human capable of utilizing the Shinigami's Kido. That was when, on a snowy night in the Human World's Berlin, you met Kirino Moeka. The eccentric, dim-witted Kirino Moeka. The selfish, greedy, unhinged Kirino Moeka. The cowardly, perverted, lazy...-

"Cut that out already! Almost none of that is true!"

"Sorry, I got a bit carried away."

"Saying things like that can really hurt me, you know!"

"I'll tone down the bullying. Apologies. It's just so easy, though..."

"Shut up!"

With a new partner in tow, your investigation began. It was a tangled web of mysteries and questions, not at all simple or easy, but you eventually managed to find and slay the magician, subsequently sending his soul to Soul Society for further interrogation. To be more technical about it, it was Kirino Moeka who had send the soul off; the credit of the action was important due to the bounty attached to the man's head. Thankfully, the redheaded Shinigami was willing to split the reward.

When the magician was slain, the Hollows he kept under control through the use of his Fullbringer have gone loose. While on their own they were of no issue, a surprise ambush at the most inopportune moment resulted in an overwhelming loss.

However, desperation is known to unlock a spirit's hidden powers. At the moment of imminent death, you released your sword... and it took the shape of someone else's Shikai.

That newfound ability turned the tides. With the battle won, you returned to Soul Society, battered and hurt, but still alive.

...
>>
>>46395754
Hey Moeka, what was the aftermath of that incident with the blind girl and the old Japanese guy and all that?

I think by that point people were just sick of the mystery, also a certain shinigami.

"...And that concludes part 2 of the recap. Well, that was the gist of it, at least. Of course, a lot of the details are missing from these recaps; they are rough outlines, mainly meant so that a new player who don't want to tackle 30 threads head on could still participate in the action."

"That's right, that's right, dear new players! So if you truly wish to know just how much Ryouta-kun lied about my character, you should read those threads in the archive! Anyway, it's the moment everyone was waiting for! Let's begin our first QA session! For those who don't know, that stands for Questions and Answers! It even has 'quest' in the name. It was just fated to be."

"That's not funny."

"Pointing out that something's not funny is not funny!"

Her parry was instant. To those kinds of elementary-grader tactics, Tsukuda Ryouta had no suitable response.

"So, so, so! Let's get those characters in! Whoever gets voted in will be called to the stage and will have to answer everyone's embarrassing and personal questions! So who's up for the current draft? Who is it, who is it, Ryouta-kun?"

"I feel that your optimism is unfounded. You know, if we don't get enough votes, we'll have to return to our regularly scheduled programming."

"Have at least a little faith, Ryouta-kun! Just give us the names already!"

"Let's see..."

"Takes one to know one, you bully."

"Sorry, I couldn't tell you. I kept as far from those people as I could until it was time head back to Soul Society. To be honest, I hope they're doing well. We were pretty rough on them, but we kind of had to be. It's been a while, so maybe they're better now?"

"What happened to that ghost of a businessman?"

"The creepy one? I sent him off. He still creeps me out, but I got it done."

>I think by that point people were just sick of the mystery, also a certain shinigami.
"H-haha, uh... Y-you sure got on someone's nerves, eh, Ryouta-kun...?"

"...I guess I did."

>>46396024
>So what's going on with the 10th division?
"The current 10th Division Captain is the adorable Hitsugaya Toshiro indeed. He's like a mini-Ryouta-kun, isn't he? Anyway, Shiba Isshin went missing shortly after Kurotsuchi Mayuri's exile. I'm not sure what the details are, but there've been some rumors..."

"There was a lot of tension surrounding Kurotsuchi Mayuri's sentencing at the time. The majority believed that it was too lax, and I think Shiba Isshin was one of the most prominent protestors."

"Even the guys in the 10th don't really know what happened for sure, but everybody thinks he chased after him into the Human World. He's been absent for so long, though..."

"He's most likely dead."

"The pessimistic Ryouta-kun may be correct this time."
>>
>>46395821
>>46396169
"...Anyway, Ryouta-kun, this is bad. Almost no votes came in, and they're all splintered!"

"It's just as I've suspected."

"It's time for Plan B!"

"What is that?"

"We shuffle the character pool."

"How is that going to solve the problem?"

"Well, our biggest mistake was having me out on the stage from the beginning, so I couldn't be voted in. Clearly the current character pool currently consists of undeveloped and boring characters! "

"I want to deride you for overestimating yourself this much, but the majority of the questions really were aimed at you so far. And you're only here because you've hogged up a disproportionate amount of screen time."

"And besides, what's with this fourth option? Who's this single-named Kimiko-hime?"

"I don't know. Must be a bug in my algorithm."

"Well, try again! And just slap the write-in option in there!"

"I thought we didn't include that to prevent the splintering of votes, Moeka."

"It clearly didn't work! Turn it up to eleven, I'm not giving up so easily!"

The QA machine makes a loud whirring noise. When it stops, it lets out a beep, bringing the results up on the monitor.

"Just... What is this...? Is this the anonymous Modius-complex gathering?!"

"It's just as I've suspected."

"What are you, Aizen?!"

At the behest of the QA voting machine, Tsukuda Shiori makes her appearance. Her long black hair is a little messy as usual, wearing a white, long-sleeved kimono casual and meant for the indoors.

"Wow, she just popped up. Like, from behind the panel..."

"We're not in a manga."

Shiori beams a smile and performs a polite bow. "Greetings, everyone. I'm Tsukuda Shiori. Pleased to meet you."

"Are you ready to answer the public's questions, mother?"

"Of course. To be honest, I was looking forward to this."

"It'll be hard to navigate the conversation with more than two people in it, so I guess I'll stay quiet for a while and let our super-popular cash cow speak." Moeka mumbles under her own nose, blowing bitter raspberries with her tongue.

"Before we let the public ask you questions, mother..."

"Yes?"

"...Well, I suspect some questions may be about inappropriate things. Like, for a random example, incest. Should they be ignored?"

Tsukuda Shiori places a finger to her small mouth, eyes staring upwards in thought. Finally, she smiles. "No, it's fine. As I've said, I'm an open-minded individual, and I think it's an interest topic of discussion. We're all mature people here, so I'm sure that we can handle it."

Moeka grumbles. "She doesn't even acknowledge me."

Shiori flicks her messy hair. "You've acknowledged your own immaturity just now, you foolish girl. Please stay quiet and work on the third part of the recap. Thank you."

"S-so cold..."

As Moeka froze to death, Shiori smiled again. "Now, everybody, please don't be shy to ask me a n y t h i n g."

>What are your three sizes!
"I think that revealing that kind of information removes some mystery from a woman, and mystery is absolutely essential to a woman's charm. Is that old-fashioned? I suppose such a thought could be viewed as overly prudish... Haha, I suppose I can't go back on my words now. Sorry, but that's one question I must refuse to answer. How unfortunate, it was the first one, too. I must not let this precedent repeat again. I can have Ryouta give you the measurements of that freezing girl over there as compensation. Would that satisfy you?"

"We already have Moeka's measurements, actually."

"Ah, well, I suppose I should have seen that coming."

"...Hey, are those icicles? Is Moeka going to be fine...?"

>>46397132
>Why did she not take over the gang after her pops died.
"Well, the truth is, I've never enjoyed being a criminal. I took up the role against my father's wishes in the first place, simply to rebel. He always wanted the calmest, safest life for me, but some disagreements forced my spoiled character into a retaliation. I was doing well and not being a burden on anyone, so he allowed me to entertain myself for a while. When he died, I thought it would be best to respect his wishes. And conveniently, that quiet lifestyle was exactly what I've liked."

>Is she happy cause she now has a daugtheru aswell?
Shiori sets her sleeve-covered hands over her cheeks and lets out a soft glee. "Miyu-chan is the most adorable thing...! She's so oblivious and tiny and hungry and cute... Like a really small girl-Ryouta!"
>>
>>46397601
Why do you do this to us mushroom, why do you make our mom best girl.
>>
>>46397164
>How are you liking living in the Seireitei as opposed to the 1st division of the Rukongai? Have your neighbors been giving you any trouble?
"Practically all our neighbors are nobles. I can't say I'm a big fan of it. Even though I don't really have to, I keep getting this urge to keep up appearances in front of those people. The simple people of Rukongai were very pleasant and easy to talk to. I find that those fake displays of dignity and pomp, and the holier-than-thou attitude can hurt a conversation quite severely, even when the person is intelligent and has thoughts worth discussing. That has to be my least favorite part about living in the Seireitei, but having Ryouta visit me so frequently... Well, I could put up with far worse things for that."

>>46397176
>What kind of guy is your type?
"If I had to choose a partner for a long-term, serious commitment, I'd go with someone like Ryouta, a cool and composed individual with a clever head on their shoulders. But I admit that I'm quite weak to the 'bad boy' type of guy. The kind of person who's bold and forceful enough to get whatever they want, whenever they want. ...I suppose that's a boring answer. It's not a very unusual taste for women, wouldn't you say? But I suppose it can't be helped. My immature fantasies were never truly fulfilled, and yet I'm old enough to know what's best for me now."
>>
>>46397684
Did you raise Ryouta in a kind of sheltered and isolated environment for a reason, or was it just coincidence that that's the kind of lifestyle you yourself enjoy?
>>
>>46397260
>What is your cutest memory of Ryouta when he was younger?
"That's a hard question. Let's see... probably when I had to explain to him what kisses were. He read a book where that word was used, and didn't really know what it meant, so I showed him. He kissed me in return! That may not sound very impressive for a mother-son interaction, but my heart was like, doki doki, or something...!"

>>46397344
>Why so cold towards Moeka? She's even less useful as a popsicle, and we need her to do the third part of the summary.
"I don't take kindly to people who act maliciously towards my son. Stupidity does not excuse them."

>>46397389
>Were you born in the seireitei or were you human once?
"I'm sorry, I cannot recall. I was adopted by my father, that much I can tell you. I don't have any memories of having lead a human life, so I suspect I was born somewhere in Soul Society. It's rare, but it isn't impossible."

>Do you feel hunger but never really had the inclination or necessity to hone your spiritual power?
"That's right, I feel hunger. I'm aware that hunger is an indicator of spiritual powers, but I was never needy for food, so I've never even considered taking up training. It isn't an inconvenience by any means, either. Food is quite delicious, and is among the most enjoyable things in life."

>>46397410
>What's your impression of Ryouta's boss?
"He was a bit hard to read at times. He hides behind aloofness a lot, but he's a cunning individual that shouldn't be underestimated. In the criminal world, those are the kinds of people who lead the most dangerous organizations. The truth is, I feel rather wary of him. I'd rather not let Ryouta associate with those kinds of people, but I suppose there isn't much of a choice. Well, no, Ryouta is always welcome to simply retire and spend the rest of his days with me, but it'd be selfish to demand that of him as a mother. He's free to make his own choices, and not even a mother can take that right from him."
>>
>>46397488
>Do you still keep in touch with your family back in the Rukongai at all?
"I do. I write letters, though they sometimes visit. Well, by 'they', I mostly mean father's right hand man. He checks up on us once in a while to make sure that everything's fine. Visits are more difficult now, but letters are still fine."

>>46397591
>I'm pretty sure that non-shinigami don't age, but I'm also pretty sure they don't linger in the soul society forever either. So do souls just kind of drop dead and reincarnate after an arbitrary period of time?
"Souls do age, and they do die of old age. It may not even take that long, depending on a person's spiritual potential. As a rule of thumb, though, the lifespans are a little longer here than in the Human World, despite the more primitive conditions."

>>46397804
>Did you raise Ryouta in a kind of sheltered and isolated environment for a reason, or was it just coincidence that that's the kind of lifestyle you yourself enjoy?
"It's a little complicated. At the time, I didn't even think that Ryouta had no preferences of his own, so I jumped to the blissful conclusion that he enjoyed the same things as I. He never even looked outside, so I simply did all I could to let him enjoy the lifestyle he seemed comfortable with. Perhaps that wasn't the best way to raise a child, but I was focused on making him happy more than anything else. I suppose I could really relate to my father during those times. I also realized just how much of an ungrateful child I was."
>>
"I think that's more questions than Moeka and I have received over the course of the thread. It's very impressive. Thank you for your time."

Shiori bows again. "No, thank you for letting me do this. It was very enjoyable. It seems that you were worried over nothing, Ryouta."

"I guess the only immature one here really is Moeka, after all."

"Au au au..."

"I'm glad you understand that now, Ryouta. Please feel free to call me in again whenever you wish. Goodbye."

"Goodbye."

Tsukuda Shiori takes her leave.

"Au au au au..."

"Keep it together, Moeka. Have you finished the recap?"

"I was frozen and dying of hyperthermos! I couldn't do it!"

"I'd feel bad for you, but I can't just get rid of the understanding that all of this is entirely self-inflicted."

"Like mother, like son..."

"Well then, shall I activate the QA machine again?"

"Please do it! And in the meantime... I'll finish part 3. Just let me warm up for a bit..."

Why do you prefer books from the living world as opposed to those published in the Soul Society?

Is literature still inexplicably (and, considering it seems to have looked the same back when Ukitake and Shunsui were young, parodoxically) locked in the Edo era? Or are things in the Rukongai so chaotic that it's really hard for anything that does get published to spread around?

Also, do you have a favorite genre?

>>
>It's an April's Fools 4th wall special episode
>>
>>46398866
Sort of but not really in the sense of losing a powerup, since more power was the last thing the MC needed. It was more the idea that a shikai is a part of the wielder's soul, and it might have furthered emotional development. Instead she got locked out even in the epilogue, and we know that the Hougyoku is responsible, but even though he keeps saying he only does what we want, he won't cop to it.

"No one read the previous quest, Ryouta-kun."

"Yes. I think it's about time we took that hint."

"You're the one who keeps putting these single-named characters into the decision points! What kind of a name even is it this time?! I can't say that without breaking my tongue! I'm Japanese, for crying out loud! Isn't that just gibberish?! I mean, look: Kura...-ra...-ri...ra-sa-what the fuc...-"

"Calm down, Moeka. You're still sore from the previous QA. Here, the third Recap should calm you down."

"You're right. Big breasts... I mean breaths."

Ryouta remains silent. Somewhere in the white void, a crow flies by and lets off a nagging caw.

"Sorry. I bit my tongue."

"It somehow all manages to end up in the same place with you."

"I think healthy thoughts at all times. No, wait, I bit my tongue."

"Right. Anyway, here's the final part of the recap."
>>
>>46395754
After returning to Soul Society from your last mission, you demonstrated to Urahara Kisuke your ability to replicate Shikai. It piqued his curiosity, and he even borrowed your mute Zanpakuto for a while. While the Captain was researching, Tsukuda Ryouta had put the earned money to use - he bought a house for his mother within the walls of the Seireitei, cutting tedious, week-long travel times to something that takes mere hours.

After getting back your sword, you were sent on a new mission. Shinigami were dying in bizarre ways, so you needed to figure out what was causing them. The culprit was easy enough to find; the challenge lied in bringing him down. After a brief, losing confrontation with the culprit, you escaped. What you discovered on the next day, splayed about the floor of an inn like an eerie warning, was a corpse that looked just like you. Whoever this person may have been he was mistaken for you and killed. It wasn't just a superficial similarity. It wasn't a trick. It wasn't a coincidence.

A person that looked just like Tsukuda Ryouta existed at one point, and was then found dead by you.

You've later dealt with the culprit and secured his body, but the mystery of your doppelganger remained unresolved. Urahara Kisuke seemed to know something, but he was unwilling to reveal the truth. No, his next actions indicated that he knew what was going on better than anyone.

The Captain entrusted you with a pale haired, golden eyed little girl he called Miyu. He wanted you to become her sibling, and somehow, it was easy to accept for granted. You shared a common trait: you had no tastes, no preferences, and no personal opinions. Whatever you were, whoever you were, you appeared to be the same.

>"No one read the previous quest, Ryouta-kun."
I did... I liked it too.
Also I hope that doesn't discourage any future plans.
>>
>>46399777
Tsukuda Miyu fit quite well in her new family. Unfortunately, you had a limited amount of time to help your mother take care of her. You were called into another mission, a mission that hadn't concluded yet, and which took a highly dangerous turn.

As a Menos Grande approaches, the only thing you have to rely on is a Human Fullbringer and the golden-haired, cold-eyed prodigy Takenaka Hanae. Ryouta's and Hanae's fates are in the hands of a complete stranger.

...
>>
>>46399850
So Ryouta, since you're kind of a detective, what do YOU think your deal is?
>>
"So... this is it, isn't it?"

"Yes. It was quite enjoyable. Well, not that I feel strongly one way or another."

"Lucky you. And I had the show stolen from me, so I feel like crap! Well, no use feeling down about that!

"That was a quick change of heart."

"I'll just spend even more time with Ryouta-kun and make the difference up with quantity."

"That won't work."

"We'll see about that!"

"Takenaka-san has received two votes on the latest QA shuffle. Should we call her in?"

"Screw the rules! Just ask whoever you want whatever question you want, everyone. This is going to be your only chance, so ask the dirtiest questions you can think of!"

So said Kirino Moeka, to which there were no objections, save for the cackling of crows somewhere in the nonexistent background.
>>

>>
>>46399982
Moeka, did you know Ryouta went on a date with Hiyori? I think she plans to steal him away from you.
>>
>>46399982
Urahara, what do you think of having Ryouta watch one or more captain's practice? Think of the SCIENCE! you could do with a copy of a captain's shikai
>>
>>46399982
I guess to all the different shinigami I have to wonder how available their respective captains are? Ukitake and Shunsui seem like the type to make themselves available to their subordinates pretty much whenever, whilst Yamamoto and Zaraki... don't.
>>
>>46399982
Clarissa, have you noticed any increased scrutiny in either the World of the Living or that strange desert in your jaunts between the two? I mean hollows showing up made a ping on that ghost cell phone, so you'd think you'd be subject to the same.
>>
>>46399926
"No theories worth sharing. I don't know what warrants recognition as evidence, so I'm at a complete loss in regards to my own mystery."

>>46400099
"It's highly specialized towards helping the Shinigami maintain the balance of souls. Human technology doesn't concern itself with that and focuses on other things, such as comfort or firepower. It's difficult to compare them. The humans might have their nukes and televisions, but we have radars that can monitor the spiritual activity of the entire world from Soul Society."

>>46400153
"Really? Went on a date? Like, she actually agreed to it without slamming you into the ground or something? That's impressive, Ryouta-kun."

"She agreed, but she did throw me anyway."

"Did it get anywhere after that?"

"It did not."

"So you really are a lolicon? I should have seen it coming. ...Say, uh, this is completely unrelated, but what do you say about letting me and Minami-chan take care of Miyu-chan instead?"

"I vehemently refuse."

"...Well, just don't do anything weird."
>>
>>46400271
>>46399982
Also for everyone except Ryouta, how well do they get along with their zanpakuto?
>>
>>46400427
What happens when a shinigami resigns/retires? Considering the whole Maggot's Nest situation, as well as there always being a possibility of invasion/disaster, it doesn't really make sense for the process to be irreversible. Do they just confiscate the zanpakuto?
>>
>>46400427
Has any shinigami we've met possess a good social life? Hanae and Soren don't really seem like they -want- friends, I don't think anyone would really want to be friends with Moeka, Hikari seems too shy, and Ryuu is just kind of there.
>>
>>46400427
Moeka, has your desire to improve yourself (albeit in your own way) been noticed by your division yet? It's been like a year or so since then, right?
>>
"Hey, Ryouta-kun, we actually missed something in the recap."

"What is it?"

"Well, I guess it's not that important anymore. Anyway, I was thinking about investing my money somewhere. The people who scammed me said 'you need to spend money to get money', or something like that, and I think they're right."

The crows get louder.

"Shouldn't you be at least wary of taking those people's words as advice?"

"I can think for myself! I can see the sense in it!"

"What do you need the money for?"

"Heh heh heh. Why would a girl ever need a reason to get her hands on more money?"

"Please speak for yourself."

"I borrowed a book about economics from Minami-chan, but it's in English, so I can't read it."

The angry swarm approaches, cackling incessantly.

"Aren't the crows particularly loud today?"

"...Do you hear that too? It's like someone's calling me stupid."

"It's probably life."

As if on cue, the swarm of crows besets Moeka. She runs away, flailing her arms and screaming.

"It seems they realized that they'd never stop screaming as long as she's around. Good luck, Moeka. Anyway, we can begin the character-specific questions now. These will be the last ones. Captain, it's your turn first."

>>46400217
"Urahara Kisuke here. It would be truly dangerous. For Ryouta-kun especially. The majority of the strength of any given Zanpakuto comes from the wielder and rarely from the sword itself. But, well, the swords possess a sentimental value to their owners, and I don't think risking the ire of a Captain is a risk ever worth taking."
>>
>>46400780
Urahara, did you give Ryouta back zanpakuto or just a different blank asauchi? Also, without going into specifics, is there a difference between the two?

and Ryouta, have you been able to copy anything besides shikai you've witnessed? Like if you see someone doing a kido spell you don't know, or some of the more esoteric abilities you've witnessed.
>>
>>46400271
"Urahara Kisuke here. That's right. I've been busy with my research, so I couldn't spend that much time with my subordinates. Unfortunately. Some of the other Captains are better off in that regard, some worse, and some simply don't care. Well, Ukitake-san gets sick a lot, so he misses out on subordinate interaction because of that. Shunsui-san... is quite social with his subordinates, indeed. Commander Yamamoto hosts tea parties all the time. Zaraki spends his days in boredom from what I can tell. With no one around his level to fight him, he's getting quite depressed. It sets a dangerous precedent. He might start attacking Captains any time now. As for the other Captains...? Well, I'm not even sure these days. Those kinds of policies change frequently. Sorry."

>>46400419
Future Urahara Kisuke here. Karakura Town is not being paid any special attention to. I made sure of that. That girl has hardly any powers to speak of as long as she remains calm, so she's practically invisible to us these Future days."

>>46400444
"Past Urahara Kisuke here again. Well, things could certainly be better, but I'm sure it'll work out."

>>46400479
"Still Urahara Kisuke here. A Shinigami can be stripped of their powers. It's an irreversible process, performed only when deemed necessary. It's almost never actually done. It's more of a symbolic gesture than anything else these days. You'd need a solid reason for it. I can't really think of any examples right now. Sorry."

>>46400908
"Urahara Kisuke here. ...What's that, Ryouta-kun? I should stop announcing that it's still me every time? Alright, alright, sorry. Hmm, let's see... where were we? Ah, I lost my train of thought. It can't be helped. I guess we'll have to end on this clumsy note. Sorry about that."

>>46400607
"Minami Hikari here. Please rest assured that Moeka-chan is making good progress! It's just that the lost trust will take a little more time to regain..."
>>
>>46401081

So that Fourth Division guy whose house we bought didn't actually lose his powers, it was more just... illegal or frowned upon he use them whilst not being enlisted?
>>
>>46401212
No, he did lose his powers!

I'm falling asleep over here, so this is the end of the thread!

Next one's tomorrow!

>>46401479
Huh, wanting to spend more time with your family so you're no longer being placed on active duty doesn't really seem like a solid reason.

So I guess that doesn't bode well for Kimiko either? Or is it different since she's a noble?
