You and Emma yell your attacks at the same time. Due to the hail, you can’t quite hear each other.

Raistlin teleports in preparation of his opponents attack. He’s in the perfect spot to fire off his Shadow Ball. It zooms through the air and nails Froslass right in the center of mass.

Froslass is blown back. She spins out hard. But despite Raistlin’s amazingly power Special attack, and it being Super Effective, she holds on. Just barely.

“So fast...” You hear Emma mouth. She must have expected Froslass to outspeed him.

Froslass stands up straight, determined to show why she’s on the team. She spreads her arms and yells.

Oh no. She’s using Blizzard! That crafty drunk! She knew Raistlin’s teleport gave him an edge in mobility, so instead of a ghost move, she used Blizzard while it’s hailing, ensuring she can’t miss.

A blinding wall of ice coats the arena.It obscures you view of Raistlin. “HOLD ON!” You yell into the furious and freezing winds. You become keenly aware of your partially torn closes from Explosion. So cold. So inhumanly cold.

You cover your face with one arm and wrap your shirt closed with the other. Finally, the winds die and you spot Raistlin. He’s laying on the ice that was water only seconds ago. He very slowly tries to get himself up, unable to levitate at the moment. His eyes glow, but he’s barely moving.

If that thing has Ice Shard, it’s all over. But will it? The refs start muttering to each other, consulting.

Froslass takes shelter behind a large rock on her side. She’s only partially obscured, but you can guess she won’t use a contact move next.

Froslass fires an Ice Shard. It narrowly missed Raistlin as he teleports at the last second. The spike pierces the ice he was laying one, revealing that there’s still water below.

Raistlin shimmers as he recovers precious health. His stature immediately picks up after that. He’s not fully healed, but much better

“Oh! A sudden recovery from Kat’s side.”

“Indeed, Chip. One can’t help but wonder if things would be different if that Ice Shard had landed.”

Froslass steps out from her cover and takes a fighting stance, not unlike how Aria looks. What’s she planning?

This isn’t like a regular match at all. This is grueling and exhausting.

You can also feel Raistlin’s exhilaration and how cold his is. But he’s still fast as can be. “Confusion! Fast as you can go!”

Raistlin focuses his aim on his opponent. You can almost see it from his eyes. The calculations on where to hit, the concentration, all of it.

Suddenly Froslass is in his face. He keels over from the blow. Sucker Punch! That’s why she raised her fists! She knew she couldn’t outspeed him regularly, and she must have figured you’d try to finish her off.

Raistlin falls to the ground. On his way down, though, he nails Froslass with Confusion.

Both Pokemon land hard on the ice.

Raistlin gets up. Froslass does not.

Raistlin is hanging on by a thread, though. He’s wobbly as he tries to stand up straight.

“Froslass is unable to battle!” A flag waves. You can feel how worn Raistiln is.

Emma reaches for her next Pokemon. If you’re quick, you might be able to pull something off. Without a target yet, you can’t use an offensive attack. You could use Recover, but you’ll guarantee she’ll move first on her next attack. You can swap Pokemon, but that’d also take the same amount of time. Or you could just stay in.

You think about your plan, and Raistlin concurs. He teleports to Glaceon, grabs the smaller Pokemon, and teleports as high into the sky as he can go.

Glaceon uses Barrier before it hits the ground, increasing its defense. It still hits hard

“What’s this?”

“Looks like Kat is using Teleport offensively again, Chip.

“Truly amazing. What we witnessed before with the Stealth Rock attack wasn’t a fluke. In all of my years I’ve never seen a Pokemon use Teleport to move something other than itself.”

“Well you know, Chip. Rumour has it that Kat trained with the former Champion. Vernon was known for his unorthodox style.”

“It seems Kat’s taken that legacy and pushed it forward. What a display”

Emma gives you a discerning look. “I expected you to switch to a physical attacker.” She looks excited. “You’re creative, but don’t get cocky. We still have a few tricks.”

You notice that Glaceon heals ever so slightly right before the hail ends. It’s ability is Ice body. Getting dropped hurt, but it’ll take a few more of those to knock it out. If you decide to teleport it into the sky again, you could spend time repeatedly going into the sky, or just drop it from the same height a few times.

Raistlin teleport Glaceon into the air, but instead of dropping her, he fires a Focus Blast, point blank.

Glaceon sails at an angle into the ground below, crashing hard, and unable to follow Emma’s command.

“Glaceon is unable to battle,” the referee declares as his red flag comes down. The jumbo screen once again producing a little X over her Pokemon.

Emma has one Pokemon left.

Raistlin lowers himself down carefully. You’re both feeling the strain from mega-evolution. If this were Devon, it wouldn’t strain you for a long time, but you haven’t had as much time with Raistlin. It’s not a problem yet, but if her next Pokemon stalls things out, you might have trouble concentrating.

Emma throws her last Pokemon, Abomasnow. But what really catches your attention is the way she slyly took a big, long hit from a flask when everyone’s attention was on the referee. What’s that about?

“Can you feel it, Abamasnow?” Her cool demeanor is fading. Her eyes look a bit crazy. Hail starts flying around again, thanks to Abamasnow’s ability, Snow Warning.

Abamasnow looks like it’s getting pumped. Something is going to go down here. And at over seven feet tall, you won’t be able to teleport it the way you did with Glaceon.

You get your mind back in the present. Emma screams out and Abamasnow does the same. You can see shiny beads of sweat form on her brow. Abamasnow glows and shimmers. There’s a burst of light and he mega-evolves.

“I can’t believe it! Abamasnow has mega-evolved her Pokemon.”

“Never in my time as an announcer have I witnessed two mega-evolved Pokemon fighting. This is a match for the ages!”

You’d be lying if part of you didn’t feel slightly threatened. But a much larger part of you feels thrilled beyond compare

You point at the massive Grass and Ice Pokemon, “Hidden Power!”

Raistlin attacks well, sending a burst of energy that creates a trail of steam, then sizzles on contact with Abamasnow. It howls at the unexpected Fire attack. Despite it being a mega-evolved Pokemon and clearly trained to handle fire, it’s still a very effective hit. You’re unsure if you could take it down with two of those total, or three.
