Welcome back, to the third installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest!

Your name is Roarke S. Starwind, nicknamed Dude McCool by your Captain, and you are the First Mate of the Iron Kestrels space pirate crew. You are 26 years old, and it is Galactic Year 327.

Thread 1: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/46489044/
Thread 2: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/46548855/
Last time, you arrived on California Station aboard a scavenger ship in your new but ramshackle mech, which doesn't have a name yet. You had a healthy, filling breakfist before proving your skills as an unarmed brawler by knocking out one of a pair of thugs mugging an older man in a single blow. Although the gentleman proved to be Colonel Ziemowit Stern of the UJCIDF, and although you think he suspected that you are a pirate, the two of you shared a six-pack of beer and played several rounds of checkers with you emerging as the ultimate victory. After that, you went to the Winking Sun bar, where you finally ran into your two surviving squadmates, Miles Longshadow and Richard Thorslund. After a happy and faintly tearful reunion, you agreed to meet up back at the Rhinehawk on Colony 3.

Now, this post is going to be continued, but meanwhile...

Last time, we had some discussion on the name, eventual head shape, and paint scheme of your new mech.

Black was dominating as the primary color choice, with suggested as the secondary. If there isn't a strong vote against it, we will probably be going with that.

These are some of the more common head shapes for Jovian mecha, but any head from any mech you or I post is a valid choice. I was pretty sleepy by the end of last session, but I remember a lot of talk about a Brave head, possibly covered by a Sensor Mask, and I think at least one person had voted for a Visor head instead. Regardless, there was general consensus that it had to have a shark-like grin. Vote and discuss while plot stuff is happening.
>>
Lets have red as our secondary color. And for the head a brave head woth shark teeth with a sensor mask completely covering the face
>>
>>46574028

Are the shark teeth normally visible, or only when the mask is damaged? That's the important distinction.
>>
>>46574306
We could paint shark teeth on the sensor mask that can can retract/break away to reveal the Brave face underneath
>>
>>46574306
Only when the mask is broken

>>

There was a guy a few threads ago that suggested we make the head a Xenomorph style pile bunker.
>>
My apologies for the delays, I had some technical difficulties but am definitely back now.

Getting back to your machine is fairly easy. You have time to load up on some space-compatible snacks on your way back, which is sensible because you don't know when you might get stranded next. Takeoff, too, is simple enough, you can even tell the workers on duty that you're going to Colony 3 to meet some friends without anybody raising eyebrows at the short length of your stay. For a jaunt of this distance, you don't need a starship.

Trails of dusty white light are left in the wake of your thrusters as you power up your machine and zoom through the opened airlock from Colony 1's mech bay. You have the chance to test out your acrobatics on the way, zipping and juking back and forth avoiding imaginary enemy fire. After all, nobody's around to judge you for it. As you soar towards Colony 2, aiming to fly over it as a shortcut to Colony 3, you notice an unusual amount of business near the ship bay of Colony 2...and the reason why is obvious.

There's a massive UJCIDF battleship hovering outside the bay. Its length far outstrips its girth, giving it a slender look despite the size of its roughly coffin-shaped frame. The front end is thicker than the back, with six whisker-like fins protruding in a circle around the blunt point, which houses the launching catapults for its mecha complement. As a pirate, you recognize it as a Wels-class battleship, a Medium Heavy main battle cruiser with an impressive array of weapons and powerful engines.

Still, that's not anything you haven't seen before. It has no reason to unleash its heavy beam cannon batteries or open its missile banks on you. So long as the swarms of mecha zipping around it like a protective colony of bees leave you alone, you should be alright.

[Continued, with less delay, next post]
>>
>>46575418
With all the talk about our mecha's future upgrades how much longer till we can get to work on that? If our pirate gang's recovering from a big defeat how much cash and resources do we have to put into one unit?
>>
>>46575571

Repainting and repair jobs are cheap and easy to do. You'll be able to work on that either today or next time.
>>
The mechs appear to be mostly Bluegills. Bluegills are the standard, line Bahamutcorp Strikers (a size category up from the typical Harpy). Unlike Bucephalus Heavy Industries mecha with their starkly delineated body lines and chunky bolts, Bahamutcorp mecha are smooth with lots of flowing curves and pastel colors. Bluegills have slender, fluted limbs and long legs, with bucket-shaped heads sporting a mono-eye. Like all Bahamutcorp mechs, they have armor a size category heavier than their frame, contributing to their smooth appearance. There are a lot of variants on the Bluegill, so you can't guess their weapons loadout with any certainty. The most famous one, the Bluegill used by the protagonist of the Bluegill Joe simgame, had nothing but a sword and an improved thruster portfolio...but that was due to exceptional circumstances, and purely melee-oriented Bluegills are not one of the standard designs. Here and there you see the slower bulk of their big cousins, Warmouths, Heavy Strikers with a flat, disc-shaped head recessed almost entirely into the chest and with a slender glowing visor for an eye.

[Continued]
>>
Here and there you also see Pumpkinseeds. Oh yes, you know all about Pumpkinseeds, the advertising campaign for them has been so pervasive that you see commercials even out here in the Belt.

The newest and much-hyped Medium Striker from Bahamutcorp. They have heads shaped much like a frogmouth jousting helm (high sloping sides, a flattish head, and a shallow V-shaped eyeslit set above a protective ridge) wrapped around a glowing orange sensor core. They possess a boxy torso, with heavy armor that comes to a point in front over the reinforced cockpit hatch and a backup sensor core inset like a jewel on the upper chest. Their long, slender limbs have longer calves/forearms than thighs/upper arms. Their pauldron armor comes to a slight point and their legs have thrusters at the heel, middle of the calf, knee, and mounted on a swallowtail-shaped backskirt. The standard loadout for a Pumpkinseed is a small circular forearm shield that covers the back of the hand, a fold-out vibro-gladius built into the right forearm, and one of either a medium beam rifle, a rocket launcher, or rocket pod. The default and most popular shape for the vibro-gladius resembles a greatly oversized bowie knife, but there are other variations. There is also a “Cannon” variant, but in keeping with Bahamutcorp's preference for versatile, modular machines it's simply a standard Pumpkinseed without the shield or firearm, instead programmed to use a heavy mass cannon with its left arm. Standard colors are pale green with blue trim, but individual squads and aces have a tendency to repaint them. The “S” denotes that it was built for space, but due to its excellent weight/performance ratio the Space variant is by far the most common. Land models exist, and an atmospheric model is entirely possible, but due to the modular nature of Bahamutcorp machines these would likely just be reconfigured space models with a customized thruster setup or ground effect system.

[Continued]

You know about Pumpkinseeds because they've already been called "Pirate Killers". Those swords of theirs can rip through a Harpy's armor and limbs in a single blow, and they're said to represent the spirit of modern UJCIDF warfare perfectly...bullying pirates in much smaller mecha using the various Striker classes. You can't help feeling a little smug that your new ride is bigger, more heavily armored, and also faster than they are.

You decide to ignore them, shining your spotlight into one's eyeslit would be in poor taste, and continue cresting the slope of Colony 2. In a good mood, you're reaching the apex of the curve and soaring down along the other side, about to put on your music and listen to some tunes, when your proximity alarm beeps loudly in your ear.

A Pumpkinseed soars by right over your left shoulder, dangerously close, rocketing at top velocity. A male voice, deep and somewhat rough, rasps through your speakers, "'Scuze us." It doesn't deviate from its flight path at all. A second one zips by on your other side, but curves well around your position, flicking the thrusters in its knees to spin around in midair and give you a finger-waggling wave that looks rather incongruous delivered by bulky, armored hands. "Please pardon us~" The voice from the second Pumpkinseed is smooth and feminine.

Feeling faintly disgruntled, you grunt into the comm system and are about to take off again when you notice a third Pumpkinseed hovering about fifty meters above you.

"Sir?" This one has the voice of a kid, a teenage boy, with that faintly nasally sound and an almost painful earnestness to it, "Sir, there's half of a Harpy attached to this one. I think he might be a space pirate."

>What do?
>>
>>46576331
"Just passin' through kid, don't want any trouble just because I'm no designer and low on cash." Which is right on both counts and doesn't say anything about ourselves. Just that we mean no harm.

Also, I see our protag as an odd mix of Guy from Gaogaigr, and Char thanks to the hot blood, high cool, orange hair and shades.
>>
>>46576331
How confidant are we in our current fighting capacity? I know we're a big guy for these manlet machines, but we did Frankenstein this thing together in the middle of an asteroid field
>>
>>46576465

Although Roarke so far isn't turning into the colossal tool Ali was, the long orange hair and mastery of hand-to-hand combat kind of remind me of him.

>>
What the fuck did you just say to me? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in flight school with over 300 confirmed kills
>>
>>46576503

Ah, right. I'll start posting this at the beginning of threads, but here's the gist. First off, every one of your servos has a SP of 6, meaning they can shrug off attacks with 6 Kills of damage or less although that location loses a point of armor even if the attack does no damage.

Your Head has 5 Kills of structure (6 if repaired). Your arms and legs have 7 apiece. Your torso has 12.

Your Large Shield has 12 SP, and your Armored Thruster Fist does 6 Kills of damage and can attack twice per action.

Roll me 1d10+13 (your Technical Ability plus Mecha Tech) to compare their specs with yours directly.
>>
Rolled 4 + 13 (1d10 + 13)

>>46576745
here ya go
>>
>>46576781

It's difficult to say. You know you're bigger, stronger, and faster than any one of them individually. You also know that their weapons would have a difficult time getting through your armor, as they've been optimized towards taking out smaller targets with maximum efficiency. Granted, if one of the ones with missiles fired off a full salvo it could chew up a lot of your armor and your shield, so you're not quite invincible, and the Heavy Cannon the Pumpkinseed Cannons carry could definitely penetrate your armor in a single hit.

Which is unfortunate, because the one the kid is in is definitely a Pumpkinseed Cannon, you can see the massive over-the-shoulder gun held in his left hand.
>>
>>46576781

Oh, right, I misread your dice roll.

A Pumpkinseed's head has 4 Kills of structure, its limbs each have 5, and its torso has 8. They have disproportionately strong armor, giving them 5 SP on every servo, and they move at a speed of 350 meters per ten-second turn...meaning that you're about 40% faster than them at your 500 meters per turn speed. In other words, that's 10% more than the performance difference between Char's Zaku and a standard Zaku.
>>
>>46577053
>>46576924
Hmmm, so not something to take lightly, but we have an advantage. We could likely goad the kid into melee if we mention us being unarmed and he doesn't relent, and if we can disable him, we could likely ask for going on our way. After all, he made the claims, attacked us anyways, and we simply defended ourselves non lethally.
>>
>>46577053
Seeing as they out number us, and more could show up if thing get hairy, I'd think it'd be best to try to pass as an honest junker for now.

Before you can deliver a sharp reply, the first Pumpkinseed, the one with a grown man piloting it, replies.

"NOOOO...A pirate? On California Station? Perish the thought." The (presumable) commander's voice is so thick with sarcasm that you'd need a beam saber to cut it. "Boy, I don't care what your grades at the academy were, we're on escort duty and not a bloody patrol. Move on."

"But...sir..." The one in the Pumpkinseed Cannon protests, "If we let him go, how many other people will he hurt or steal from? Didn't you say we were defenders of the peace?"

You take this opportunity to pipe up, "Just passing through, kid. I don't want any trouble because I'm no technician and I'm low on creds."

The kid jumps on this, "See, sergeant? He's not even denying it. Come on, you know we can make the arrest and be back on patrol in half an hour." His voice is as eager as a puppy's, and you bet he has a punchable face. "We would be doing our part to promote peace and justice in the galaxy!"

As a side note, you get the chance to examine these Pumpkinseeds more closely. They deviate from the standard colors somewhat. The Sergeant's is trimmed in red and has a mohawk-shaped crest on top. The quiet woman's is trimmed in blue and has a pair of long antennae. The kid's is trimmed in white, with a V-shaped crest set above the eyeslit.

To clarify, you're on the other side of Colony 2 from the Wels and the Bluegill swarm. They would be unable to show up for at least several minutes, and each turn (for both sides, turns happen at roughly the same time) takes ten seconds, meaning six turns per minute.
>>
>>46577324
GOD DAMN JESUS YAMATOOOOOOOOO.

Hatred for Seed aside, keep calm and reply clamly as well. "So what, you assume things by looks and not only choose to gang up on me 3 to one, you choose to do so against a unarmed unit? For having a white mech, your heart is pretty black kid."

The white Pumpkinseed levels its Heavy Cannon at you, tilting its head up and firing its heel jets to reach a safe distance of 300 meters away.

Suppressing your natural urge to move away from the ominous barrel of the heavy weapon, you keep your tone polite and friendly.

"I'm just a scavvie, covered in filth and hoping for my once-a-year bath on California Station. I don't want any trouble, officers." You spread your arms wide in a posture of innocence.

The blue Pumpkinseed chimes in, "No active weapons systems detected, threat level minimal."

The red pumpkinseed remains silent.

The white Pumpkinseed chimes in, "You're flying an unidentified and mostly junked Exo-Suit..." Oh God, he calls them by the formal name instead of the simpler 'mech' term most use, "...With half a Harpy on its back. Those are pirate mecha, even if you acquired it through simple theft that's still a crime that needs to be investigated."

Feeling a sudden urge to grab this kid in a headlock and tenderize his skull with your knuckles, you force your voice to stay calm, and adjust your shades. The little fucker's calling your mech junk stings more than you expected, "So what, you assume you know who I am based on my machine and how clean it is?" You let a bit of scorn drip into your voice, "And so you gang up three on one against an unarmed unit? Here I always thought the Jovian military was brave. I hope you're not from Io, we would have kicked your ass every day in my neighborhood. For having a white mech, your heart is stained pretty black, kid."

"N-no one could let something like this slide! Surrender at once and if you're innocent we'll let you go and compensate you for your machine." His gun is still pointed at you, and that word 'compensate' has an ugly sound to it. For all of their supposed virtues, it wouldn't be unlike the UJCIDF to confiscate your mech just on suspicion and melt it down for spare parts.

Eh, running and withdrawal are two things. Besides, this isn't a fight if we avoid. The kid is being a punk and is wasting time for everyone involved. If we attack them blindly, they could just call reinforcements and then get caught for real.

You decide to ignore him. He's not even in charge, if he discharges that weapon without orders the military might charge him for the shells, "Hey, Sergeant...what's wrong with him?" You ask.

The red, mohawked Pumpkinseed shrugs its shoulders, the HMIS conveying the Sarge's reaction through body language, "Newbie on ridealong. He's supposed to be getting some seasoning, but he's still plenty raw."

"I-I've never even lost a simulation batt-" "NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR BLOODY SIMS!" It has the ring of a conversation the Sarge has had more than once today, "I don't care if you're the next Floyd Beck or Rudolph Merrow, stand down before I stand you down!"

You feel a momentary thrill of triumph, perhaps that's why you press your luck a little too far, "Kids these days have no respect. Colonel Stern and I were talking about just that when I bumped into him earlier. He almost beat me in checkers, you know?"

There's a stunned silence over the comms, then the red Pumpkinseed opens up again, "What? Hold on...so you're a scavenger, a filthy one at that, and you know the Colonel. THE Colonel, Ziemowit Stern himself. You know him and you've played checkers with him."

You don't say a goddamn word, but the sergeant continues, "We'll have to take you in for questioning."

The white Pumpkinseed gushes, you can practically see the pilot's tail wagging, "Thank you, sir! I'll make the arrest, you check him out!" He starts to move closer, but as he passes the red Pumpkinseed the sergeant throws his arm out across the white one's chest.

"Didn't tell you to do that. This guy, whoever he is, is right. I'd never live it down if it got out that I needed backup to handle a broken mech with no weapons."

"I need this machine to work." You protest, trying to sound like a whiny, slimy scavenger and not a bold space pirate, "If I can't use it to disassemble scrap, I can't handle contracts, and if I can't do that I can't eat."

The sergeant HMMMMS loudly, "Alright, buddy. Open video comms, I've got a bounty computer with face recognition software here. The kid's right, I can't take the risk, but if you're innocent you're free to take your scrapheap and go."

Uh-oh, that's bad news, because you know for a fact you do have a bounty and your face is in their systems. Roarke Starwind is not an easy name to forget and your face is quite recognizable to anyone who knows what you look like.

"Sir, military regulations DICTATE I MUST remain within 200 meters and cover you with my main cannon."

"IF YOU SO MUCH AS TWITCH BOY I'LL HAVE YOU FIXING SHETLANDS IN THE MECHANICS POOL FOR THE REST OF YOUR GOD-DAMNED CAREER! STAY THERE AND DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT MOVING, BECAUSE IF ONE OF YOUR STRAY SHOTS HITS ME I'M TAKING IT OUT OF YOUR HIDE!" You wince at the sergeant's impressive roar, loud enough to make an ugly feedback noise in your comms.

"I've never missed even once, sir."

"I DON'T GIVE HALF A DAMN, STAY WHERE YOU ARE. Here, make yourself useful and hold this in case I have to pry open his hatch, I don't want to be juggling it." The sergeant shoves his rocket launcher into the white Pumpkinseed's hands, sounding as though he'd rather be shoving it through his face. Fortunately, that takes the barrel of the cannon off you.

The red Pumpkinseed zips closer.

>What do? You know for sure that you'll show up in his computer if you activate video comms, and he's angry enough that he might not accept claims of mechanical failure.

I answered this. You're on the opposite side of Colony 2 from the Wels-class battleship and its attendant mecha. They could always call in the swarm of Bluegills and Warmouths, but it would take several minutes (30+ turns) for them to arrive

The problem with fleeing, now that I think about it, is that where exactly could you flee to? Your ride is faster than theirs, but you were going to Colony 3, which isn't far away, and if you went there you'd be leading the UJCIDF to the Rhinehawk.

At the moment, the sergeant seems to be taking this matter personally and doesn't want backup.

>>
>>46579367
So, we stall/provoke him enough to get him to attack us, incapacitate him and hope that he lets us leave without calling backup for the sake of his pride?

The key is really not getting anyone else involved.
>>
>>46579461
I would rather we went for the kid since he has his weapon and the Sergeant's rocket launcher so he's the biggest threat
>>
>>46579512
The kid is green as hell boy. Weapons don't make you dangerous if you can't get a bead. All we need to do is keep our position using the sarge as a shield. If he shoots at us and hits the sarge, he will likely start going at the kid. THATS when we escape at that scenario.
>>
>>46579561
Kid claims to be skilled, so he might just be able to hit us.

Thing is, he'd be going against the sergeant's orders if he fired, since he wanted some kind of honorable one-on-one fight or something, so the sarge would probably blow up at him if he tried to interfere at all.
>>
>>46579561
Yeah but even if this is his first time out, he said he was good. Could be boasting, but I don't want us to get blown up quite yet.
>>
>>46579561
But still the kid was talking about how he hasn't missed a shot and even if he was bragging (which he probably was) he still has weapons that can fuck us up
>>
Roll 1d10+5. First to roll it gets it.

In a mech, your Reflexes score is reduced by the first digit of your mech's tonnage (50.5 currently), this score is called your Mecha Reflexes. Initiative, which is what this roll is, uses a flat 1d10+MR.

Since this is a surprise attack, you automatically attack first this turn, but this roll will determine initiative for the rest of combat. The Pumpkinseed weighs exactly 39 tons, but most pilots don't have your ridiculous hand-eye coordination, good aim, or ability to make snap decisions.

Next post, I'll detail your combat options, namely what attacks you have available. Rules are slightly modified from Mekton Zeta because at least one of them makes no sense (albeit an option that isn't useful here because the Pumpkinseed's melee weapon is integrated into its frame.
>>
>>46579649
>>46579634
>>46579628
And? Just because he says he never missed a shot doesn't mean he will hit us. Sims tend to be pretty simple in general and tend to forget the important things.

Besides, a guy who says he never misses just means he likely only shot a few times. And if he is so cock sure that he risks his commanding officer, then he is likely going to get court marshalled.

All melee attacks are automatically called shots when done to major servos such as the arms, legs, torso, or head. Things like sensors and weapon mounts still require a called shot at -5.

STRIKES:
Punch: Basic attack, +0 WA, deals 6 Kills with your Armored Thruster Fist. Does AN ADDITIONAL attack per Action, unlike the others.
Sensor Jab: -5 WA, deals an additional 2 Kills plus your regular damage to the enemy's sensors. This -5 comes from it being a called shot, the +2K is a special bonus because a hand weapon is better suited for this than a melee or ranged weapon.
Chop: -2 WA, arms only. If successful, the enemy pilot must make a Stun/Shock roll as his HMIS reels from the focused impact. If he fails, he drops whatever he was carrying in that hand. The enemy Pumpkinseed currently has no handheld weapons, the shield and sword are both mounted.

KNOCKDOWN:
Throw: -1 WA for every 10 tons the enemy mech is heavier than yours, hurls opponent anywhere within 50 meters of you. It does no damage, but the victim loses 1 Action.
Slam: -2 WA for every 10 tons. Identical to Throw, except it does the same damage as a punch.
Trip/Sweep: +1 WA, knocks defender down, does no damage.

Disregard the Chop entry. It turns out it's human-only not because mecha can't disarm each other with their hands, but because there's a better option, the first one I'll show here.

GRAPPLE:
Grab: -1 WA. Take one object from opponent. This can be used to grab humans for a -5 modifier instead of the -1, mostly to avoid sqaushing them.
Pin: +0 WA. Restrains one of the enemy's limbs with one of your own. Neither can use any systems in the limbs involved so long as the pin endures.
Bearhug: -1WA. Pins both of an opponent's arms to his sides, using both of yours. The same rules apply from Pin.
Dismember: -2WA. Rip off any servo from the main torso, except for Pods. Dismembering IGNORES ARMOR COMPLETELY and deals 1K against a servo of the same weight category as your arms (Medium Weight) plus 1K for every category below that. For instance, Dismembering a Harpy's Lightweight head would do 5K.

FULL BODY ATTACKS:
Stomp: -5 WA. Used to squash people, cars, and gun emplacements. If successful, the unlucky target is no more. Against an enemy mech, this attack is just a regular kick.
Tackle: +1 WA. Knocks opponent up to 50 meters away and causes them to lose an Action if the attack is successful, but does no damage. Arms are required to tackle.
Ram: +0 WA. Attacks Torso only. You slam into your opponent's torso, dealing 5K of damage (based on your mass) to both you and them, +1K for every 100 meters you traveled that action. Can be done for FREE at the end of any Action spent on movement. The heaviest unit occupies the space of the defender afterwards, with the other unit knocked 50 meters back.
Drop: -2 WA. Attacks Torso only. A running leap that ends with both feet slamming into the opponent's chest. Identical to Ram, except for the -2 accuracy and the fact that you do NOT take damage from performing a Drop attack. Can also be done for FREE at the end of a movement Action.

You have two Actions you can perform per Turn. Actions can be used to perform a miscellaneous task such as changing weapons or reloading, or used to attack (remember, your Fists are Quick, giving them two attacks whenever you attack with a punch/claw/elbow), or used to move half of your total per-turn movement. For you, this is 250 meters. To move the full 500 meters allowed by your thrusters requires both Actions.

For those curious, this means that a Drop done after expending both Actions on movement would do 10K.

Turning in flight costs 50m of movement, however, so keep that in mind. The Sergeant with his Pumpkinseed is within 50 meters, what would be the adjacent hex if we were using hexes at this stage, and what is considered melee range in this game.
>>
>>46580608
Let him get within the 50m then dismember targeting his head

I'll check back in ten minutes for your decision. Do say what you plan to do specifically rather than being general, and make a 1d10+13 (your roll for both dodging and striking) roll.

Rolls will be processed in terms of first come, first serve, generally I'll do something like use the first roll for your attack roll (and the second for the second attack roll if the consensus is punching), the next for any dodge you have to make, the next after that for your parry if you flub your dodge, etc. If I need more rolls, I'll ask for them.

>BEGIN BATTLE!

Copypasting what we know for reference:
>A Pumpkinseed's head has 4 Kills of structure, its limbs each have 5, and its torso has 8. They have disproportionately strong armor, giving them 5 SP on every servo, and they move at a speed of 350 meters per ten-second turn...meaning that you're about 40% faster than them at your 500 meters per turn speed. In other words, that's 10% more than the performance difference between Char's Zaku and a standard Zaku.

"Did you hear me? Open video comms now, or I'll pry that rustbucket open." With a flick of the right wrist, the red Pumpkinseed unfolds the vibro-sword concealed within its right forearm. They come in a few different models, and this guy has the cleaver one, a thick, single-edged chopper with a spike at the top pointing in the same direction as the blade, allowing it to hook things and pry them open.

As much as you know this could be a bad idea, you feel a grin spread across your face, "Sorry, Mister Policeman, there's something wrong with my comms and stereo."

You flick a switch, and the remarkably rich voice of Freddie Mercury fills your cockpit.

'Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time~'

"TURN THAT SHIT OFF AND OPEN YOUR VID OR YOUR COCKPIT N-"

You smugly crank the volume up even higher.

'I feel alive~'

You flex the muscles of your right arm, feeling the additional weight and the power of the pistons in your clawed fingers. Patient as a snake, you wait until he's right up on you.

'And the world~ I'll turn it inside out, yeah~'

You hear the sergeant swearing over the comms, but he can't match the pipes of based Freddie.

'I'm floating around, in ecstacy, so...'

He reaches for the cockpit hatch, and in a blur, you close your fist around the back of his frogmouth shaped head and activate your thrusters on one leg, flipping the pair of you around so that his head impacts against the side of the Colony. Fortunately, it's thick and armored enough to withstand starship blasts.

'Don't. Stop. Me. Now~'

Pressing his cheek into the metal, you fire every last thruster in your frame at once at an angle...

'Don't stop me~'

...sending you racing along the side of the Colony while his head judders off the metal.

'CAUSE I'M HAVING A GOOD TIME HAVING A GOOD TIME!'

Pieces rip from his helmet to scatter through space like debris. His mohawk comes flying off, lodging harmlessly between the creases of the folded metal of your makeshift head.

You feel a bump as the top of his skull strikes a ridge from a join or conduit in the Colony hull, and with a savage crack the neck joint gives out completely. His helm-shaped head comes flying off, spinning away as it encounters the dusty white beams of your thrusters.

'I'M A SHOOTING STAR LEAPING THROUGH THE SKY LIKE A TIGER~'

You're too cool to be lip-synching to the song...much...but you are humming along. The Sergeant swings his cleaver in a blind across-the-body blow, but you catch it down by the base before it can acquire any momentum, extending his arm out as though you were dancing as some instinct warns you that your back is to the white and blue trimmed Pumpkinseeds, spinning in midair to present them with the back of their commanding officer to shoot at.

'DEFYING THE LAWS OF GRAVITY~'

The blue Pumpkinseed slaps the barrel of the white Pumpkinseed's cannon down just quickly enough to save the white pilot's career.

>Turn 2 begins. Give me more d10s and tell me what you're doing next while I work out what the penalty is for losing your main sensor but not your backup one.

For a moment, he manages almost to slip free as you swing around to try to plant your mech's boot in his armpit, but you grab him again and lodge your boot between his swordarm and torso servos. He roars loudly into the comm, "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, ROARKE STARWIND OR SOMETHING?"

'I'M A RACING CAR PASSING BY LIKE LADY GODIVA~' Freddie responds for you.

Your thruster fist has him by the wrist, and you grab his forearm with your other hand, putting your leg, hips, back, and both arms into it as you pull. If there was air to carry the sound, you'd be able to hear the squawking of joints popping as his shoulder pauldron buckles and comes flying off.

'I'M GONNA GO, GO, GO THERE'S NO STOPPING ME~!' Is what you hear instead.

The pilot of the white Pumpkinseed manages to be heard mostly because his voice is so much more high-pitched than Freddie's, "Stop this! If you just surrender, and more suffering can be avoided! People don't have to fight, if we just tried to understand each other maybe things would be better!"

'I'M BURNING THROUGH THE SKY, YEAH!'

You crank the volume several notches up as you tear off Red's sword arm. Short of headbutting you, there isn't much he can do to hurt you now. Then you throw your arms around his body in a bearhug to stop him from moving, keeping him between them and you.

'200 DEGREES, THAT'S WHY THEY CALL ME MISTER FAHRENHEIT'

You're aware that he probably doesn't have any further weapons. Pumpkinseeds are general-use mecha intended to shoot down Harpies and get in close enough to clumsy pirate warships to cripple them at point-blank range.

'I'M TRAVELING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT~'

You receive a sudden notification of a video comms request from the blue Pumpkinseed, which has been floating silently with its arms crossed slightly in front of the white one and off to the side, where it can keep him from potentially shooting the sergeant trying to hit you.

'I WANNA MAKE A SUPERSONIC MAN OUT OF YOU!'

Hmmm, no video coms(can't let her see our face, unless she's intending to make it one way.), but voice will be fine for this. Start talking and getting the lot to surrender. They likely want their boss back after all.

stop trying to charge the two damn it. We got them where we want them. Comms first, then we see what we do next depending on the offer. Rushing in for a surrender can leave us vulnerable if we try to withdraw since it gives them a bit more space to chase and we'd be in their range longer. Kira seems like the liar sort.
>>
>>46583000
I suspect this pilot knows how much of a clusterfuck starting a battle outside the colony will cause, especially with the very real lack of actual authority in this pirate paradise. Any shooting seems to be kicking the hornets nest, or at least they can't know for sure were not affiliated with one of the larger groups in the area. Regardless any sort of diplomatic incident, regardless of the legitimacy of the locals, is bad.
>>
You hit 'accept only'. She can hear your music still, but of course, she could do that before too. The large-eyed girl on the other end smiles into the camera. Her cockpit is among the most decorated you've ever seen, looking almost like you're peering into some Victorian girl's bedroom. Neat shelving units with possessions, a plush rabbit floating behind her head, lots of lacy trim, even the space-compatible tea thermos has been done up in white with blue print to look like an old teakettle.

She pulls off her helmet, shaking out long, black hair in a traditional princess cut and smiling surprisingly cutely for someone with black lipstick on. Taking off the helmet breaks the HMIS link, she couldn't shoot you right now even if she wanted to, so it's a sign of good faith. The orange glow dies down somewhat behind the slit of her Pumpkinseed's helm.

"Aw, that's a shame. I was hoping to see your face. From your voice, I think you must be very handsome."

You're glad you didn't accept, though, it gives you the chance to look her over. A petite frame, not much for breasts, but you know what they say about being hugged by a flat-chested girl. Although Freddie has made many fine points about fat-bottomed ones that you consider equally valid.

She stands up, puts her hands on her thighs, and makes a polite formal bow, "Thank you very much, Mister Scavenger, for helping to catch the sergeant after his unexpected equipment malfunction. It was very kind of you." She smiles, and the white pilot squawks.

"W-what are you doing? You know that's not what happened, we can't just lie!"

Rolled 9 + 15 (1d10 + 15)

Her smile goes as stiff and straight as the blade of a sword, "It isn't a lie. There's only one pirate I've even heard of...and the sergeant and I have actually seen a pirate outside of a simulator..." Her voice is as cold and sweet as strawberry ice cream, "...who was crazy enough to fight without any weapons systems against armed opponents. I heard something about him vanishing from the battlefield at a certain bar a few days ago. Such a shame, supposedly he was very dashing." She gently bites the tip of her own finger, "But it makes sense a scavenger would be skilled at dismantling, yes?"

"I...I can't believe this...you mean that you're going to submit a false report and...and you want me to go along with it?" You can hear the indignation in White's voice. "What if I don't do it?"

"Then the entire battleship will talk about how our squad's leader was defeated by a damaged suit with no functional weapons. The truth of the matter and the valiant struggle we witnessed will be lost every bit as surely, becoming a taint of mediocrity rather than a feat of skill by an honorable enemy." She pauses for a beat, waiting until the moment more noise starts to come from White's lips to cut him off with a final riposte, "And it might reflect badly on the Colonel. If it reaches the upper brass while we're still in the prototype stages it could mean the end of Project SOUL entirely."

He stops struggling against your bearhug.

Victory feels nice, but there's one thing you need to do. Something important.

"You were humming along to that song, weren't you? I thought it was comm feedback until you stopped."

She blushes slightly and looks away, "I like old things, when they're strong and enduring. I've listened to Queen before, Freddie Mercury had a lot of spirit and lived the way he wanted. I always thought that was important."

You grin behind your helmet, "I don't think I caught your name."

There's a slightly choked sound from both white and red's comms. Blue claps both hands over her mouth and turns the color of red's mohawk...correction, YOUR mohawk. Red tries to reach for it with his remaining arm and you bat his hand away.

Finally, the girl pilot looks away, twirling a lock of long, dark hair around her finger, "It's...I'm Corporal Samantha Blanchett, UJCIDF Europan Division, Special Assignment." She sneaks a peek up at the camera, "I think I deserve a name in return, yes?"

You grin, and the light of your monitors gleams off your shades even though she can't see how cool you look, "Well, judging by what your sergeant says, apparently I'm Roarke Starwind."

"I can't stand any more of these lies! People should live without being under the shadow of half-truths! I...I'll hold my tongue and let you two say what you want on the report, but this isn't what I joined the military to d-" White's voice is cut off as Corporal Blanchett reaches up and sharply twists something behind the unusual v-fin he has for a crest. There's a pop of static and the voice feed from his comms goes dead. She doesn't look away from the camera, not even for a moment.

You release Red, and he goes jetting off after his head, which is a rather comical sight because catching it with only a backup sensor core to see by and his severed arm clamped against his body is a challenging feat. Eventually he roars for the other two to help him, and Blanchett snaps out of it. She gives you an apologetic smile, blows you a clandestine kiss on her fingertips, and turns off video comm before she and white jet off to help red.

Feeling supersonic, you turn your back on them...with a glance over your shoulder in case white isn't as much of an idealist as he's pretending to be...and set off yourself towards Colony 3. Miles gave you the bay number already, so it's an easy task to make your way there. There are a pair of Harpies in Iron Kestrel black-with-silver-trim deployed outside the bay doors in humanoid form, cannons at the ready, but Miles and Richard must have told them about you since they move out of your way without challenging you.

Session is over-ish, just a few PLOT posts to wrap things up.

By the way, about the mohawk, are you keeping it as a trophy or adding it to your mech once the new head is installed?
>>
>>46584187
Trophy, I'd say. We can't add every single thing we collect onto our mech, otherwise we'd rapidly run out of space.
>>
>>46584187
Trophy. Where do we put it though? It's like 2-3 meters long isn't it?
>>
>>46584210

The Rhinehawk has both an empty mecha bay and a cargo bay, so you actually have plenty of room to store a ten-foot-long piece of metal.
>>
>>46584187
It couldn't take up that much room right?
>>
File: gekko[1].jpg (53 KB, 412x237)

The Rhinehawk looks the same as always, an elegant spear-shaped ship with a triangular head and two wide, swooping wings for atmospheric flight, each one housing one of the mecha bays. The right catapult looks like it's been temporarily destroyed, and the ship's surface is pocked with missile scars. This design isn't so popular anymore, even smaller cruisers tend to resemble flying bricks, but the Rhinehawk stands out and does a servicable job for an old troop carrier.
Inside the remaining bay, you see...one of the more bizarre sights of your life.

The Captain's Master Harpy is crouched in humanoid form on the floor, leaning against one of the stands for mecha to attach in for reloading and repairs. Generally, a Harpy is made from a stolen Lunar civilian mech called a Sparrow, but Captain Ozark's Master Harpy doesn't have a single civilian part in it. Although it's still a Harpy and can transform into a fighter like any other, it's the size of a Pumpkinseed and likely more expensive. It's a work of art, too, with fancy metalwork, and the jet's nose resembles a bishop's miter when the mech is in humanoid form rather than the pointed hoods a typical Harpy possesses. There's something different about it now, though.

Rings of candles have been placed and lit on the floor around it, and you remember vaguely that the Captain used to complain he couldn't sleep unless he could see the stars. The chest and stomach of the machine have also been crushed like a discarded beer can, with a wide gap that looks like someone carved it open. Tubes from a number of machines vanish inside the jagged gap in the Master Harpy's stomach.

[End for Tonight]
>>
>>46584210
>>46584262

It doesn't take up any Spaces if installed, and there's plenty of room for it on the ship. Or you could hang it on your cabin wall.
>>
>>46584401
Might as well slap it on then I say.
>>
>>46584401
If it doesn't take up any space, then hell yeah I'm for installing it! Only if we can mod it to turn different colours in response to our hot-bloodedness.
