Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
Steadhold had quieted in the days after your wedding, much of your time had been spent seeing people off with proper adornment and fanfare. Man of the Reach Lords and Ladies had been kind in their farewells, glad to finally meet the Lord that Ser Dontos Malroy had spoken so highly of in his letters. In truth you hadn’t even known Dontos was writing letters to his past comrades in arms, suppose that is what he did in those hours he spent brooding in his tower. Lord Mathis Rowan had extended an invitation for you to join him in the Tourney of Highgarden, and promised to speak well of your renewed horse stock, though little he knew of it. Either way it was a pleasant sentiment, word spreading into the Reach once more would surely do wonders for your coffers. Lord Raymun Darry and the Riverland Lords were equally courteous, their words instead giving praise to Lady Lysa Tully and her ‘victory’ in the Tourney. Lord Raymun’s tone had given away to you the displeasure in the sentiment, while others felt genuine joy. Even in the years after the Rebellion tempers flared at the most minor of trivial titles, though you could hardly blame them. Obella had become slightly distant in the days following your decision, it was not a distance born of anger you felt, but of distaste of the situation not unlike Lord Raymun’s.

Lady Mellario of Norvos was last to leave her train of Dornishmen and women following shortly after, barring Lord Quentyn Qorgyle and Ser Symon Santagar’s forces of course. This had been the first time Obella had joined you in seeing off your guests, and the entire send off had thus become a rather long and drawn out ordeal, the Dornish were more likely to speak to your wife at length before leaving and it hadn’t been until mid-afternoon that you had finally seen Lady Mellario and the Princess.
>>
You had caught your son riding astride his Redsong next to their train speaking with Princess Arianne from her carriage and had to make a point to shoo him off with a look the closer he got to the front of the castle. You had noted a blown kiss from the window of the carriage as he rode off with that goofy lopsided smile, Isis had laughed when she saw the same, commenting that he was exactly as you were in your youth. In truth you hadn’t remembered starting that early or aspiring to such lofty heights such as Princesses of Dorne, but all the same, you did see yourself in Victus. Obella was quick to wrap up her goodbyes with the Princess consort, whispering quick words to her and sending her off with a hug that entirely unlike the one she had given her mother, Lady Elsa Dayne. Your goodbyes were equally short, few words being exchanged as the Lady Mellario looked tired of the act by this point. Your Household was quick to scatter to the wind once they left the Kingsgate, yet your eyes lingered upon their train for a moment longer for half a moment envying their trip to Norvos before quickly turning on heel and going back into your castle.

Lady Lysa Tully’s departure hadn’t quite been the affair as that had been the day prior, her small entourage of Vale and Rivermen hardly taking more than a few hours to see off. You had spent more time speaking to Ser Stevron Staunton in fact than Lady Tully. He seemed a good sort all in all, for half a moment you considered tempting him away from the King’s service, though it was doubtful you could provide him with the same funding and life of luxury as he enjoyed. He spoke to you of his preference for travel, and promised he would be attending the Tourney in Highgarden, he had wished to challenge your Uncle at some point but was sadly denied the chance. Lady Tully had been brief with her word with you at least, speaking at length with a rather disingenuous Isis, though apparently not so much as to be obvious to Lysa.
>>
She had left her with a delicate hug, and kiss upon either cheek, staying a moment longer to comment how she should not hide her hair. Your heart crackled with a spark of flame, though Isis’ eyes and look had soothed you at least long enough for you to say goodbye. For the most part it had been you reaffirming she would have a proper carriage and escort return in two days to collect your sister and bring her to King’s Landing. She had left you with a rather long look, one that tinged upon want and superiority, you had spent the night attempting to strike the image from your mind and scalding your skin clean of the grimy feeling.

Mason meets you in your stride towards the grand hall, he was holding stacks of papers, charts and maps. Far less organized than Benjin typically was, and when commented upon he fixes you with a flat look, “This is Elionwy’s doing, well most of it rather. She’s taken the extra trust on your end to heart it would seem.”

“In lieu of Benjin I suppose someone must handle the House’s finances,” you remark, “What are the maps for?”

“Reports from Mors, he’s laid out all the information they’ve gathered regarding the Princewood. Dontos wished to holding a military council immediately following the monthly. He intends to ride for Chelsted tomorrow with Lady Alexes and take stock of their forces. With Ser Cyrus’ death he suspects some will be difficult, especially when news reaches them of their marriage.”

You chew on that thought for a moment, it was a rather odd thing all in all, but Dontos had done his duty as he promised. An oath kept by both sides, though your mind still wandered to Dorian and Cecilia in Maidenpool from time to time. Occasionally you caught yourself wondering if you had left any other children fatherless during your years in Essos, an unpleasant thought that you rarely confronted.
>>
The years of drunken whoring hadn’t been the height of your life in retrospect, though at least the war had been good, enough to prepare you for what would soon come to pass in the Princewood.

Holding the door open for Mason you cast an eye towards your high seat. You missed the sight of your Maester neatly handling his reports and papers, waiting patiently for your usually late arrival. In his place sat your sister, she had insisted upon ‘knowing what her brother was up to’. Elionwy, Gawen, and Dontos were all in their usual places and much to your surprise Obella was sat in her seat next to your own. It wasn’t so much that you hadn’t expected her to take an interest in your House’s finances, but rather you did not expect her to lessen her distance so soon. As you approach she smiles towards you and you feel her warmth again, at least enough to remind you she had still chosen you. Mason and you take your seats and your Knight confers with your Stewardess for a moment before the meeting can begin. Obella leans over and interlaces her arm into your own, resting her head on your shoulder, “Brynden may I make a request?”

You turn your head slightly, “Yes, of course, any.”

“Your castle offers little in the comforts of my homeland. I knew to not expect the best given your family’s fortunes during the Rebellion, but as I’ve traveled your castle it does not befit the man that now rules it. The Tourney grounds and the town have gathered more of your attention than the comfort of your guests, allow me to take that burden at least. A Lady’s touch would do wonders for your- our home. The dowry my brother brought, allow me to take half, at least enough to bring Steadhold to life again and busy myself while you wage war and hold your Tourneys,” she says her voice silk and her fingers playing with your own, you feel the soft clink of the gold scorpion you had gifted to her in Dorne as it shifts to the side.
>>
You nod and take the thought into consideration, and she seems contented for now by your acknowledgement. She was right you thought casting an eye about, the comforts of home went about as far as a tent in the middle of a battlefield for you, a part of the sellsword that never left, he even felt spoiled to own a plush bed. Steadhold’s interior was pragmatic, military, it was as your family had always been. Rarely did the Lady of the House take it upon herself to spruce the place up, the castle was far too large to do it effectively most times. Mason casts you a look that breaks idle thoughts, and you nod for him to begin. He shuffles through his papers again nervously, before Elionwy stops him and plucks the few he needs and passes them to you, Mason hadn’t ever been the sort to become nervous like this, but he had taken much of the burden on when Benjin had left for the Citadel, it was a bit more than the man was use to. The Myrwoman smiles at you and indicates points of interest, your funds, your power before turning to Mason again for words she could not speak.

“So, Brynden... We’ve the Crackclaw Point Alliance to consider, the Princewood operation that will begin in a week and a half. We’re well off, and the military is ready, I outfitted the First Regiment this month as was agreed upon with the Maester, no debt this month, so the rest is yours to do with as you please,” Mason says, Elionwy patting his hand as he finishes.

What would we like to spend this month’s Wealth, Power, etc on?
Spy Network and a Trade Inn seemed important last thread.
Obella is requesting 10 Wealth to purchase the Standard of Living: Rich Holding.

Any questions, concerns, feel free to ask. If we're in consensus we'll just go ahead with things, otherwise we'll hold votes.
>>
>>46590580
>Spy Network for 7
>Trading Inn for 10
>SoL for 10

Burn all the wealth this month and make the wife happy.

Oh and spend 2 Power to upgrade the Arabelsters to Trained, sit on the rest. That's my two cents at least.
>>
>>46590580
Let Obella do her thing and then get the bridge repaired so we can actually use it for troop transport.

>Spy Network and a Trade Inn seemed important last thread.
>Obella is requesting 10 Wealth to purchase the Standard of Living: Rich Holding.

Thankfully, we can exactly afford to buy the spy network for seven wealth, the Dyre Den trading inn for ten wealth, and give Obella the ten wealth she wants. Just.

We'll have nothing left in the coffers, but we'll go some way towards bridging the gap between us and our wife that's grown because she thinks she's the dominant party in our partnership and that we should do everything she says, and also show the Crackclaw point lords that we can be trusted.
>>
>>46590580
Hiya Padre. Good to see you up and running. I'd say a Trading Inn in Dyre's Den and giving her the money for the standard of living. We can then start with the spy network next month and it will keep her busy for a month at least. And burn two power to put the Arabelsters at trained.
>>
>>46590580
Give the money to the wife, bring the network and the inn up and keep the military growing up, time to secure our powerbase

Dudeface is probably patting himself on the back so hard for getting us to put our name in writing on building that Trading Post: he had us pegged that we had every intention of doing it, but kept procrastinating
>>

Agreed
>>
A quick request if it won't take too much time.

I find it a bit difficult to read the Google Doc due to the amount of things we are building in our corner of the world. Can you reorganize the holdings and military units section to show things built in one section, and things currently being built in another section?

Repairing the Bridge will cost 5 Defense. Which you do not have. If you transferred 10 Wealth over at a 2:1 conversion you'd have enough to purchase the Bridge this month but would need to forgo one of the other things such as the Trading Inn or Standard of Living.

>>46590775
Trading Inn in Dyre Den does indeed satisfy at least one of your deals with the CPA. The other would be the Roads (if you note I actually lowered that to just 8 Lands, 18 was a bit much.)

Anyway, looks like we want to go with:

>Spy Network
>Trading Inn (Dyre Den)
>Standard of Living: Rich
Leaving us with 0 Wealth. Risky business but as expected.

There is some want to spend at least some of the Power on the Arbalesters to get them to Trained status, which only be 2 Power, leaving you with 4 to hold onto for next month or spend if you want some more Green troops.

So, we'll do a little vote for the Arbalesters:
Upgrade to Trained?
>Yay
>Neigh

And pic related is the Power holdings otherwise, if anyone is interested in suggesting something for that. My recommendation is to sit on it, but up to you guys.
>>
>>46590888
Yeah that's what I meant. We were planning on following through and all, but we were going to keep procrastinating until Judgement Day unless he got us to get it in writing and forced the issue.

I figured out how we should execute Redwood. We tie him to a ln archery target and slowly kill him by hitting no vital parts to begin untill he eventually dies

I'm also torn on whether to suggest we buy some green infantry just to have another cannon-fodder unit as we head towards the conflict over those woods.

Couldn't hurt to have more men.

We're not near our troop limit yet, are we? We might be, I forget. If we are, disregard this.

Hm... I suppose I could do an "In Progress" section. Not sure if it would help much to be honest, you have the "Build Time" box on the right to indicate what is and isn't being built right now. But I'll mess with it a bit later, probably post thread since it'll take me a bit to reorganize everything, see what I can do and get some opinions.

>>46591024
You are not, you're at 510/1000 right now. Green Infantry would cost 5 Power however, so unless you want to move around resources that's a no go this month.

>>46591105
We're going to get to that in a bit actually.

Anyway, clear winner on the bump up for the Arbalesters, I'll update their stats in a moment, all the Wealth Holdings are accounted for. Rolls in this post are for Build Times in order of Spy, SoL, and Trading Inn.

Alright, so with all that being said and done House Fortunes got a +2 bump. Close to getting that +4d6 bonus, christ.

Any other comments, wants or concerns? Or should we move on?

House Staunton doesn't have an opinion of House Malroy one way or the other and they are right along the way. Wouldn't be a terrible idea to send them a raven if you want to do some trading.

Alright I think I have everything updated and good to go. Time to write this up and we'll move onto the Military Council.
>>
>>46590721
The rift seemed more distaste for the situation and less anger toward us. Given that Lysa Tully is involved, I can understand the distaste. Even knowing that she's not a complete wingbat yet, she's still a loathsome, gross cunt and I completely understand not wanting to send my kid to her.

And what are they thinking of the Crackclaw Lords and of Lord Saltygar if it's not much to ask?
Would be a nice addition to this alliance since they're closer to the point, have a port and a direct view to Driftmark if the Velaryon tried something.
Though having one of their best marriage being the one that tied them to the Lannister could be...
>>
>>46591363
Sure, she's not being entirely unreasonable. But saying she knows we'll make the right decision seems to have taken a backseat to her being huffy that we didn't do exactly what she wanted.

“Lord Eustace Brune was rather clear in his want of the Caravanserai in Dyre Den, to uphold our end of the bargain,” you begin looking over the funds you had this month, “Set aside two thousand dragons for that. Tell Illiad to begin to look for a proper merchant to oversee it.”

“We could always contact… What was his bloody name. The Braavosi Merchant Prince,” Mason responds snapping his finger to find the name.

“No Braavosi,” you state firmly, not wishing to revisit that old wound again, “Though do find someone from the Free Cities if possible. Lord Eustace seems to have a love those that give him a challenge”

“As you say Brynden.”

You nod and go back to your papers, turning to your wife, “Comfortable or rich?”

Obella smiles and leans forward flicking through your papers quickly, pausing to look around the grand hall, “Your drapes haven’t been changed since the Dance of the Dragons. And you bed is a bale of hay.”

“Rich it is then but I’m keeping the bed.. Another two thousand there Mason. The castle is in as much of a state of decay as the city is. Perhaps it is time we gave it the proper treatment it deserved. Likely it will be of some use when we play host to more important guests such as the Princess Consort or the Ladywife of the Hand of the King. Elionwy, Obella will be overseeing this as I’ve the taste of a pauper Lord as it would seem.”

Elionwy tilts her head to the side as she scribbles down the few things Obella mentions to her off the top of her head. Mason rolls his eyes, before turning to you again, “Anything else?”

“Get Vargar Sorrios on the field, I want the Arbalesters to continue their training, green men don’t do us a lick of good on the field with foreign weapons.”

“Easy enough.”
>>
yes
>>
“And…” you pause drawing out the last of your thoughts on the matter. Dontos had been sitting attentively seeming fine with your orders thus far. But you knew he would not like the next, arguments a year past. You turn to Obella who had gone back to leaning into her chair again, a hand resting upon her stomach, her pools of blue drink in your wildfire, you feel calm. You would do what need be done, “Obella, how long do you need to get a proper network up?”

“For?”

“Spying. After the past few incidents I need eyes inside Redwatch Tower, the Langwards and Blounts are still issues. I know half as much as I would like to.”

“Spying Brynden?” Dontos interjects his brow furrowing, “That is not the Malroy way nephew, it is a life without honor. We have spoken of this before, you cannot.”

“Do you think me honorless Ser Dontos?” Obella responds in your stead, her voice mocking offense but underlined with that challenging tone you had come to enjoy.

“I- no my Lady. I did not mean that in regards to you. But… But those we would hire. They would not do Steadhold justice, they would dishonor us if caught. House Malroy could not withstand such a scandal my Lady. Surely you understand my need for concern,” Dontos stammers out, a bead of sweat immediately forming on his brow.

“Ser Dontos, my Ladies are not so easy to catch as that imposter that now resides in your dungeon was. And I do believe it goes without saying they are all of the finest caliber, even to your lofty standards Ser Knight, you have been introduced to them with little cause for concern as of yet, is this not true?”

Dontos looks to the side before turning his eyes to you, not filled with anger but still mistrust of your decision, before turning to Obella again, “It is not my place to disagree my Lady. I apologize if I have caused offense.”
>>
>>46592578
No
>>
Obella smiles to him, “You are a good man Ser Dontos. Lady Chelsted is lucky to have you. Brynden I can have the basics of a network in three months, but it will not be of full use to you for another year. I do not know the Crownlands and many of my contacts are abroad, I will need time to rebuild.”

You hoped it would be sooner, but at least it was something. Dontos would likely brood over the subject but not in his tower, in Chelsted, Lady Alexes’ problem for now. Though he spoke true, in the future, it could be a worry, spying was the domain of The Spider, and you held little regard for him despite his actions in aid of your House. You would need to trust in Obella to maintain her network as privately as possible, Crownland Lords and Ladies were always in the mire of political upheaval and you could feel the eyes of judgment from those around you already for daring to marry to the Dornish. You scribble the bit of figures in the margin of your papers and come to the conclusion you’d be absolutely broke for the remainder of the month, but for good cause, “See it is done Mason,” you say pushing the papers back towards him, “Be careful with our finances for the remainder of the month, Gawen if you need to sell a few of the good stock do so.”

“Yes milord,” your horsemaster responds, the rest of your table filling with nods and small discussion.

You let out a sigh and fall back into your chair, rubbing your temple as Obella curls up against your arm again, “I did not expect all this my Lord.”

“It is mostly the work of Benjin, Mason and Elionwy. They holding this place together. I don’t know what I’d do without them.”

“But you are still the one they come to for advice, to throw ideas upon, and you listen. Call you a sellsword as they might Brynden but you act a proper Lord when your House is concerned. Yet...”

You look to your hands, thumb idling playing with the new ring of gold it bore, “Yet?”
>>
>>46592612
fuck off stannis.
Go trim your wife's stache.
>>
“Yet you are still the man I fell in love with otherwise,” she says placing a quick kiss upon your check, “Thank you for setting aside the coin for me Brynden.”

Mason coughs and gathers your attention again, having rolled out a map of the Princewood with a few markers and a stack of letters, all reports from The Loyal Bows out in the field, “This is all the information Mors was able to gather Brynden.”

Gawen and Elionwy had taken their leave as Mason had set up, your captains entering in after them to assemble to the side, Lady Alexes comes along with them, taking her place beside Dontos and your sister who looks over your men with a quick and judgmental eye before nodding her approval to you.

“We have reports as far as Branton, the little hamlet Captain Rafe spoke of. And… They are not good that far west, the town was found empty, abandoned it looked like, half of it was burnt out. The Jons reported it looked like everyone had just disappeared at once, dinners sat rotten upon their plates,” Mason begins, Rafe Roper looks devastated by the news, his sister lived there you remembered and now she was either dead or somewhere across the Narrow Sea in shackles. Lucas places a hand upon his shoulder and he nods firmly attempting to straighten himself.

“What else?” you ask stiffly fearing the worse.

Stealth: Success, two degrees.
Knowledge: Success, one degree.

“Mors managed to stay out of sight for the month, only got in a minor skirmish on the fringes, killed them all before they could send an outrider. However, the Princewood is crawling with ‘bandits’ right now. They could hardly get much of a look at the places before they had to move again,” Mason says placing a finger upon the various locations he was speaking of, “He reports three camps, one near Branton. Another on the southernmost reaches of the Princewood, and the last a checkpoint upon the Goldroad.”

Mason places three markers on the map and as you look at it it occurs to you something is off, “What of the smallfolk? Did they find anyone outside of Branton?”

“Only one pocket of resistance Brynden, down near the southern camp. Green as gooseshit peasents with sharpened farm tools. Mors met them briefly before they ran off again. We could attempt to link up with them, outfitting them properly to fight would surely help to rebuild relations and pull them to our side.”

“What about the checkpoint on the Goldroad?”

“Curtis Flowers got a look of the place in passing, it’s the one we probably know the most about. They built a wooden gate under a big wooden bridge, bunch of archers up on top. It stays open mostly, but there’s a camp in the woods where a bunch of horses are kept and a clear path is open to charge. I’m guessing highwaymen, they got archers posted in the trees and on the bridge too. Looks like hell to get through if they shut it down entirely. Some big tough named Tonio runs the place and looks after the tolls.”

“Nothing a sortie of heavily armed men couldn’t handle,” Quentyn Qorgyle says rubbing the dust upon his chin, “The light cav can deal with the archers. The heavy will cut down their mounted forces. My personal guard can clean up the rest.”
>>
>>46593968
He's being neither, he's being just as whiny as everyone else. Having good articulation doesn't make you any less of a bitch.
>>
A good thought you think to yourself, it was likely the best to keep the dornish in as open a field as you could, the dense forests of the Princewood would only slow down their horses.

“What about the camp near Branton?”

“The Jons says it’s built against a hill, halfway in it looks like, nothing like the kind of hell you’d find in the Vale but enough that it will force a single approach. Has a few watchtowers and some sort of stone and dirt wall, probably the best fortified of the three.”

“House Chelsted will deal with this camp Lord Malroy,” Lady Alexes says, “We have the infantry, engineers and siege equipment to dismantle it with ease.”

Dontos nods along and looks up to you with a slight eye of approval. He would lead the charge with House Chelsted’s army behind him. Build a rapport with their Captains in victory.

“And the south camp?”

“Less a camp and more a wide open field. Place is bandit central according to Mors, estimating about 300 there, lots of campsites, no real fortifications. No markings it looks like. Would be best for our forces Brynden. The Sons, Knights, and our cavalry would run through them like a hot knife through butter. The Infantry can be on cleanup duty.”

“Where should we place House Hayford’s troops?”

“Put them on a sweep with the First Regiment and the Bows. They’re 300 men worth of wet behind the ears boys, but they would help us cover more land at least,” Mason offers.

As good of an idea as you can come up with at least. The reports estimates the force to between 500-600 men, no more than 40 of them mounted spread out between the three camps. Hell of a bandit force that was supposedly not being bankrolled by the Red Bastard or his lackeys. Still it felt off to you, there was too much distance between the three of them. You mess your face up and look to Mason for answers who has little more than a shrug.
>>
“These are the plans I would make Brynden,” Mason says, giving the map another once over and rechecking his notes, “It’s up to you where we go from here and where you place yourself.”

What we need to consider is that there is moving reinforcements that we didnt pick up, if we split our numerically inferior force (to royce and allies) to attack all fronts then if a sizable reinforcement arrives they could sweep our combined forces from the field potentially. Whereas if we jump one force and anihilate it quick enough, we might be able to domino effect and ovewhelm each position.

Mason mostly suggests taking all three camps at once because he knows you're on a time limit and you're not entirely sure of the forces you'll be dealing with. In his mind he thinks taking the fight to them as quickly as possible with veteran forces to outmatch their lesser trained units and never allow them to regroup or come together to mount a proper counter offensive. The sweep is meant to deal with reinforcements that he can't account for.

That being said he will defer to Brynden's judgment in this case. So...

Plan of Attack
>Keep with Mason's plan, attack all three at once.
>Attack one camp at a time instead (sweep still a go)
>Attack two camps at the same time (Specify) (Sweep still a go)
>>
>>46594025
When this is over we need to look at landing Mason... He builds his own troops and upgrades his towers or land if we give him land so we would have no more expenses after the landing and continuous upgrades from him...

I'd say hit the checkpoint and the hill camp. We'd drive the bandits to the the southern camp in an disarray, wait to see if they have some reinforcements that are gonna fuck us up if we just go all out, and then CHARGE IN. I'd say we join in our new brother-in-law at the checkpoint

We should certainly have a fall back point, some kind of easy defended terrain or hastly built structure to defend from incase shit really does go tits up. At least then we have a haeven to rally at.

Alright then, looks like a firm Mason's plan with his troop deployment. For those wondering Steadhold will only have the Trained Garrison with Jonos leading the defense at home.

And also looks like Brynden will be riding along with Mason and Lucas into the South Camp.

This is the only part that worries me. I feel like they might expect us to come at them like any other lord attacking bandits, strong and fast. I'm wary of any contingencies they might have, since Redward has most likely told them we are coming at some point.

>>46595963
Hopefully we can, it all hinges on how things stand after we own the princewood.
>>
“And I trust in those plans Mason,” you respond after a moment of deliberation. Though your eyes keep tracing the known paths through the Princewood, it still felt odd. But then again the Bright Banners were foreigners as much as your Sons were. At a guess you assumed they were the ones leading the ‘bandits’ and further likely to be the ones clearing out the smallfolk in places like Branton, “Have Wesley and the Second Regiment construct a base of operations here,” you command, “Lord Qorgyle, Wesley and myself will work out of it, my cousin will build checkpoints as he progresses with his sweep. I want the Princewood entirely locked down as we sweep through it. House Chelsted’s forces being the most numerous and collected will likely have job of cleaning up those we flush out with the sweep.”

“All the better, the Princewood opens up near Branton,” Dontos remarks looking at the map, “Nothing but fields and plains over here, nothing to hide in.”

“I will have my brother look out for stragglers along the borders Lord Malroy,” Lady Chelsted adds, “We have a number in reserve within Chelsted, if need be we will bring them in force.”

“Good to know,” you respond, again glancing down at the map, “This is it then. I’ve no speech for this, no words of wisdom. We go to war, the beginning of a war that is not likely to be the end of this conflict. You all know what must be done, get our forces mobile and deploy to the field immediately. We will begin our attack of the Princewood the first of the month. Warrior protect you all. And may the Seven bless us in our endeavour.”

“Ride unto the Sunset,” Dontos finishes and your assembled captains echo him.

You finish with a nod and dismiss your men emptying the grand hall in short order, all that remains is yourself and your wife, who looks over the map Mason had left behind.

“You did not look certain Brynden,” she says.
>>
>>46595963

>>
“I am as certain as I can be Obella,” you remark, wishing to call for a drink, “The Loyal Bows gathered all the information they could, without a proper sweep of the area I cannot be certain what lies in wait.”

Obella frowns, and clicks her tongue, “I am sorry I do not have the contacts to help you Brynden. No eyes on… the… inside. Wait,” she suddenly takes a pen and marks the spots where Mason had left the bronze markers and rolls the map up in a hurry.

“Wait, what?”

“We have eyes on the inside, resting in your dungeon as we speak. She can confirm or deny, give us names, put your worry at ease.”

You sit back and blink a few times as Obella chatters excitedly at you, “And do you think she’d give those things up willing?”

“I do not intend to give her an option,” she says her eyes turning dark.

---

“Yondril, are you always down here?” You ask of your man who is sharpening a knife next to Horace Hogg’s cell.

“Only when I need be, milord Malroy. Quiet, dark. Better than grand hall,” the man responds hardly looking up from his task, “In need of me services?”

“Not today Yondril,” Obella says walking past him in a quick determined step. Yondril gives her an odd look and you only shrug hurrying your own step to follow after her. She stops in front of the dimly lit cell that Nera Dayne’s imposter sat huddled in, she was a wreck after the beating Elionwy had given her, half the time Benjin’s apprentice could hardly tell if she was crying in pain or just crying to cry. Obella waves the torch in front of the cell and your gaoler comes over with the key, unlocking it with a solid thunk and leaving off. Your wife enters, looking the woman over who only cowers in fear in the corner, she asks, “Do you know who I am imposter?”

“No my lady,” the spy chokes out, she was still missing a number of teeth and speaking sounded more like wet slapping rather than words.
>>
“I am Lady Obella Qorgyle, Prince Doran Martell’s spy mistress, Lord Brynden Malroy’s wife,” her tone is dark, far more so than you had ever heard it before, “And Lady Nera Dayne’s cousin and dear friend.”

The imposter looks Obella with wide eyes, fear clearly etched into them, she hardly gives you a look, no doubt still remembering the thumb you dug deep into her cheek, “My lady, please, I beg mercy, I was only do as I wa-”

“SHUT YOUR MOUTH YOU LYING WRETCH,” Obella lashes out, striking the imposter across the face with the back of her hand. She cries out in a whimper, huddling further into the corner attempting to escape mumbling apologies and tears. Your wife lays out the map upon the floor, kicking it to the full length, “Is this map correct?”

The spy gives it half a look before hiding her face again, “I do not know my Lady, please, I do no-”

Again Obella lashes out, gripping her by her hair and pulling her from her corner, and pressing her face over the map, the imposter’s arms struggle nails scraping at the unforgiving stone wall hoping for purchase, the things were bloody ruin from your eyes, “LOOK AT THIS MAP. TELL ME IF IT IS CORRECT.”

“My lady I-I-I-” her stammering stops as Obella pulls a blade from her belt, a small hidden curved thing that she pressed against the underside of her ear.

“Do not thing to beg me for mercy you worthless whore,” Obella whispers into her ear pressing just hard enough to draw blood, “You killed my family. You threatened my husband’s loved ones. You will find no mercy here. I would just as soon kill you for what you did to Nera.”
>>
You watch in half horror and half astonishment, Obella hadn’t ever been this far into her own anger before you before. A part of you relished in the imposter’s suffering, she hurt your son, she hurt Mason, she murdered Nera. This was the least of what she deserved, even if the other part of you thought she may go too far.

“I do not know that muc- AHHHHH PLEASE STOP,” her voice turns shrill, though it is half lost in how hoarse she is as Obella’s blade digs deeper into her ear.

“NAMES.”

“I only know the one in the camp but the town my Lady. They call him Hawkeye, he uses a crossbow. They say he’s from the Riverlands. I don’t know anything else bought him I swear my Lady. I swear I swear. Please, please, please.”

Obella looks to you, anger written on her face, you nod allowing her to continue. This was her domain, she had anger to vent, pain to deal with. You could not disallow her vengeance when in your heart of hearts you knew Royce would suffer far worse.

“What else do you know,” Obella hisses into her ear.

“You are missing a camp.”

You perk up, and lean in closer, pointing to the map, growling, “Where?”

The imposter takes her tatter of a finger and marks the spot with fresh blood, in the middle of the map, “There is a ruin there deep in the wood. Aeror, a mercenary commands them from there.”

“How many men?” Obella asks.

“I do not know. I only saw the map once, Aeror was… He was my lover. We planned to run away from this hell to… to-”
>>
Obella tosses her roughly back to her corner of the cell, allowing the dagger to take it’s toll as she did so. By the time it came loose have the girls ear was gone. Blood gushed from her ear, as she pressed it against her face, mixing with her tears. Your wife rolls up the map, and flattens her skirts quickly cleaning and placing the blade back. She looks at the spy with disgust, “I do not care for who fucks you. You are nothing. If it would not do more harm than good I would ask you be drawn and quartered. Perhaps one day I will be so lucky. Brynden, I need a bath and a meal, the baby is getting fussy. I leave this wretch to you.”

Obella passes by you, quick to leave the mess of a woman behind. She looks on at you in absolute fear, her face shaking and covered in fresh blood. You sigh and look over to Yondril, “Yon, boil some wine and get the needle and thread, stitch the girl up. She’s no good to me dead.”

“My name is Marceline. Marceline Sand. My father was a Yronwood. We will be wroth if you execute me. Please my Lord. Have mercy.”

You cast a glance to the girl, “No. You are no one.”

Her eyes search the floor, attempting to pull information from thin air, before they pause and widen. She looks to you, with all the confidence she once held at your court, “They are trying to sell your egg.”

You look at her, her eyes were without fear for the moment, just the piece of information you needed, enough to save her life, “To whom?”

“I will not say unless you promise my life my Lord.”

We were going to keep her alive as evidence/witness in any coming trial. So that is fair enough.

Besides, we can always phrase it like "we" promised not to kill her. But we made no mention of our wife.

You kneel down to her level, arms resting upon your knees and tsk, your voices oozes with contempt, “You are not understand Lady Marceline. I do not negotiate with prisoners. Your life was forfeit the day you threw your lot in with that bloody bastard.”

“But that egg. They… They said it was your fortune! You cannot- I… PLEASE MY LORD!”

Yondril appears behind you, the gaoler behind him with the boiled wine, looking nervously around Yondril’s arm. You stand up and exit the cell, leaning on the bars from the outside looking in at the young woman, who looks onto you with fear, “Yon. Get her stitched up proper.”

“Of course milord. Anything else?”

You pull his hooked knife from the place you kept it on your belt, the thing was light as a feather, and you always wondered how he elicited so much pain from it, well not that much at least. Yondril smiles broadly at the offered knife as you flip it over in your hand and lean forward, “Then open her back up.”

The spy’s eyes widen again as Yondril takes the knife and flicks it against his fingernail and she begins to scream, “NO PLEASE. DO NOT LET THAT MADMAN NEAR ME. I BEG OF YOU!”

“Milord?” Yondril asks having quirked an eyebrow.

“Get it out of her quick Yon. The Sons ride within the week,” you say and go to leave but pausing with a thought, “I do not offer mercy anymore than my dear wife does. Barring the mercy of a clean and painless death once this over. Think it over Lady Marceline, it is far better than what Lady Qorgyle had in mind and certainly better than what Yondril will be doing for the next few days. Goodnight, Lady Marceline.”

Her screams echo into the cold lonely dungeon going answered, though they were half the screams that Yondril would pull from her lips. You exit the dungeon with a dark look of your own. Mercy was not your forte, not when your son was involved.

“The Lady doth protest too much,” you remark as you help Isis into her carriage. She gives you a quick swat over your ear and you only smile in response.

“The Lady does not need her big brother helping her with every tiny thing. Besides you are too rough, Dontos has gentler hands than you.”

“I would certainly hope so,” Lady Alexes chimes in from her horse. Dontos coming up behind her on his Penance. Victus not too far behind with Redsong. It was a day you had feared for many years, the day when you would be away from your son, he had cried his tears the night prior. But promised to be strong, to be good in Chelsted. We all must do our duties. And he understood. As much s a youth could. You promised to visit, and swore Dontos would spend just as much time in Steadhold As Chelsted once the Princewood was clear again. Small words to calm him. Promises you hoped to keep.

The sendoff was a small affair, enough for your family at least. Isis’ carriage and escort had arrived early in the morning and you did everything you possibly could to put it off until the later afternoon. Ser Byrron Royce was stubborn, but relented eventually and you were allowed the moment longer with your family. Dontos had been ready to leave on the morrow but decided to give them escort before turning towards Chelsted with his new Ladywife. Victus stops next to you and you can see the tears welling in his eyes again, it took everything you had to to bite them back yourself. He leans over and you give him the tightest of hugs you could, “Be good my son. Dontos will keep you company and the boy Rodner. He needs a big brother.”

Your son nods, wiping away the tear that rolled away before taking his place behind your uncle who looks to you, “Warrior preserve you upon the field of battle nephew.”

“And may he do the same for you uncle.”

Isis looks to you, a final look before you were separated again, you worried for her. Felt pain that she would be gone again. But you did as you must. She would be safe. Now, now it was your turn to act. To go to war. A final hug a kiss upon the cheek. Well wishes and demands to stay alive out there. A laugh. A tear. You watch as they leave, from the steps of your castle you see them fade into the distance.

And then…

...to war.

It had been a long time since you were in a war camp. And never had you been at the head of it. Wesley and his men had gone directed to Mors’ rally point and had begun to construct a proper fallback point within the week. A small ditch was lined with sharpened trees, spears jutting out far into the sky, a single entrance point at the front with a clear view of the Princewood beyond. To your back was one of the steeper banks along the Blackwater Rush, enough to give you a wall at least. The camp teemed with life it reminded you of your time across the Narrow Sea, Knights, men-at-arms, squires, young peasant boys, all mingled together in preparation for war. Dontos had sent word he was on the march, and not soon after Quentyn and Quillon Qorgyle were on their own. All four of your parties had been equipped with field ravens, and a map of the Princewood including points of interest and the supposed fourth camp.

Of all your men it was Wesley who needed to be the most careful. He was instructed to have forward scouts at all times, and if they did manage to find the fourth camp they were to avoid at all costs and build a perimeter. When the other three were done your forces would converge onto it, and taking anyone there out with extreme prejudice. Your cousin worried for the quality of his men when compared to your own, though a worry that was qualled by knowing Mors and the Loyal Bows would be by his side, as would be the Second Regiment to help his less than trained infantry.

You were the last to ride, the field base was the closest to the south camp, and a portion of your time had been spent attempting to make contact with the resistance fighters. It hadn’t been until this morning when the sweep was to begin that you received a scout who had finally made contact and brought one of their leaders to you. Lucas, Mason and yourself had been going over your battle plans when they had entered unannounced.
>>
“Milord, I hope I’m not interrupting, I brought one of the Prince’s Resistance, as instructed milord,” you man says, bowing as well as he can and removing his cap.

You look up from your table and see a woman standing with her arms crossed and staring at you without half the fear most men gave you. Turning your head to the side Lucas notices her too and stands up right immediately bumping his head against one of the tent struts and blurts out, “They sent a woman?”

Fixing Mason with a flat look you press yourself off the table and stand in full, “I am Lord Brynden Malroy. I understand your people have been fighting these bandits for some time, Lady..?”

“I ain’t no Lady,” she throws back at you, “And yes. We has. Without the help of your Lordships. Now you come with your shiny sword and plates, and want to help. Only when it conveniences you.”

Rude, brash woman, “A name?”

“Cassondra. Fairbanks, the leader. He calls me Cas.”

“Well Cas,” you respond, “Your people-”

“My people need a home,” she interrupts looking you dead in the eye, “Half them ain’t fighters. Children and the old. We want your walls, you bring my people to your castle over the river and we’ll tell you all we know ‘bout Tomas down in the camp. Does are Fairbanks’ terms.”

Mason and Lucas both look to you, entirely unsure of what your response would be, it hadn’t been the first time you met a woman who fancied herself a warrior. They just tended to be less of an ass about it in front of their Lord.

“Mason, do we have space in Steadhold,” you ask not breaking your gaze with the woman.

“There’s the burnt out homes down by the ports still. They’d need to rebuild, but I’m sure we could find them accommodations until then. How many?”

“Two hundred give or take, another hundred willing to fight. Including meself, Ser Knight.”

Mason frowns, he was usually better with the smallfolk with the Flowers name, but you had to imagine the Prince’s Resistance was going to have a difficult time working with anyone that claimed to be a Lord or Knight after what Royce had been doing.

“We’ll bring your people in,” you state firmly, “You’ll understand they will need to be vetted first, I cannot risk agents of House Redward entering my city unscathed.”

She allows a half smile, and reaches over for her satchel. Lucas too quickly goes for his sword, half unsheathing it, and receiving a death glare for the effort, your hand raised to stop him. Cas’ eyes don’t move from Lucas as she unlaces her bag and allows its contents to drop out. Mason looks away and your scout looks half ready to retch as the head rolls onto the floor. That of a man, who you did not know, “He was spying on us for Tomas. We know how to take care of our own.”

“Seven above,” Lucas states slamming his sword back into its sheathe, “They might as well be mountain folk at this point Brynden.”

“Lucas, get rid of the head. Place it on a spike out front or something,” you say giving him a wisp of fire. He relents in short order, and grabs the head by the hair marching off to do as he was bade, “Apologies. Ser Lucas is…”
>>
“A knobhead,” Cas interrupts again, “My people will be grateful Lordship. Tomas is the leader of the war camp, big ugly brute of a man. Doesn’t like the forests much. Raped and killed me sister when he came through Branton with that Hawkeye. They got enough horses to ride 20 men. Mostly looks like swords and crudels for most the lot. Maybe hundred archers. Nothing your shiny plates can’t deal with Fairbanks figures. None of them are armored up neither, just Tomas and his shiny horses.”

“Do they have patrols, or scouts?” Mason asks.

“Plenty. But we kill ‘em whenever we see ‘em. They got less at night, lazy arses fall asleep on patrol.”

“A night raid would be better with the lower amount of men we have Brynden,” Mason offers to you for your consideration, “Anything else?”

“They been emptying out our villages. Penning up the pretty or strong ones, and sending them some place we can’t find. Half my people lost their family’s to those monsters.”

Mason gives you the same look you give him, confirmation that people were disappearing, now you just needed to find the trail.

“Well thank you, Cas,” you say, “Your information is invaluable. My people will see you back to your camp, and escort those able to Steadhold. You are dismis-”

“No. I said we want to fight your Lordship. We been fightin’ them for months now. Fairbanks gots us all geared up with spears, woodsmen axes, and wheat scythes but it ain’t like your shiny plates and swords. Fairbanks says we’ll fight for yous, if you give us the stuffs to do it.”

It wouldn’t hurt to have more men on the field you think and while he had been the man to suggest such before, Mason looked rather unsure of the notion now.

“Mason see to it those willing to fight are armed. Shortbows, the light armor we have in bulk, enough to protect, but not enough to be worth running off with. Cas, your people know the Princewood better than any of my men, and I find I am in need of a dedicated scout force and guides throughout the woods. Can your people do that?”

The young woman chews on the thought and uncrosses her arms placing them on her hips, “We still git to kill those bastards?”

“As many as you can shoot down.”

She smiles, a jagged croaked thing, most of them red from chewing sourleaf no doubt, “Yous got a deal your Lordship. Fairbanks ought to be happy, he’ll want to meet you when you march our way.”

“And I plan to. You’re dismissed Cas.”

She bows about as poorly as your other scout had before her and leaves off in a stomping gait that has to be as far from ladylike as you can imagine.

“Lucas is going to enjoy this,” Mason says with a laugh, “She’s like an uglier version of what’s her name in Pentos, the one with the dothrahki blade.”

“The one that tried to take my bloody head off for sleeping with her sister?”

“Aye that’s the one.”

You fix Mason with a flat look and he laughs before leaving off to find the supplies he needed to arm the Prince’s Resistance. You were not sure their worth in the long term, perhaps when it was all said and done you would do better to disband them and let them live out the rest of their lives in peace but for now you would take all the extra hands you could get.

---

You had made break for the Southern Camp at mid-afternoon, it would not be that far a ride from your field base, Wesley had cleared your way up until Fairbanks camp, one of his regiments was taking security detail on bringing them back to Steadhold, he had met you as you marched, intending to circle north and meet with Quentyn when they were done with the Checkpoint, “Warrior preserve you,” he said as he departed. Words, always words.
>>
The march took a moment longer than you had wished it to, the break in Fairbanks’ camp to get your new guerillas outfitted properly had eaten some of the afternoon, though Mason insisted it was for the better, the later into the night you could wait the easier it would be to run them down. Your Household Knights had all come in their plate of onyx, in the moonless night they would look like shades galloping through the camp, bringing death. The Sons had a more mismatched appearance, still some wore their old garments from Essos, others the proper wear you had given them recently, still all were ready however, Mason had been drilling them to death in the weeks leading up, they had gotten soft he said, though Yanno and Yondril disagreed fiercely.

Fairbanks seemed an odd sort, his words were well spoken, “My Lord,” he would say with a certain distinction. Though his men were loyal, happy even to be fighting for you. Rare a pocket of resistance fighters were welcomed open handedly into a Lord’s army. Rarer still to see one that wished the same vengeance upon their attackers as they had. By the time you are mounted and ready again, dusk had begun to settle and the skies had become gray with clouds.

“Looks like rain tonight,” Lucas observes.

“Hopefully we’ll hit them before it settles in. Danse’s men ready with the torches?”

“Dripping with pitch Brynden. The… Resistance fighters, they going to be a probably? They look greener than Wesley’s lads.”

“They’ll be off in the shadows, handling runners. I trust them to know their woods Lucas. They aren’t any different than the smallfolk back home. Give it time.”

“As you command my Lord.”

Dusk turns to night, the sky becoming no more than a blanket of thick black, churning with the clouds as a storm brewed. Your men were scattered about attempting subtlety on the approach. Occasionally you would hear the snap of a bow and rushing sound of an arrow as it struck their scouts.

Your mounted men split into their three groups. Lucas leads his Knights to the clearest track, intent upon cutting down every man they could, Danse’s leaned towards their tents, his men ready to set the place into an inferno within moments, Mason and yourself lead the Sons, bows at the ready to cutt off any trying to escape from Lucas’ charges. The infantry spread out behind you, Rafe Roper leading his men as well he could, you could see the hatred in his eyes, word from the Resistance ad spread through your ranks, no word of his sister, and she was likely dead or gone by now. Fairbanks takes his men and spreads out, easing themselves into shadows and trees, watchers in the night, bows at the ready to strike them down, Cas is closest to your own group and gives you a nod as you pass by.

You can hear them. Joy in their voices, midnight revelry, drunken fun. The calls of men, the cries of women, the crackle of fire, it all reached your ears. And it lit a flame inside you, nothing more than a crackle at first that grew every step Goldsong took. Your bow flexes in your hand, a familiar motion, your eyes eat in the flame of their campfires in the otherwise lightless night. Eyes of wildfire. The boom of thunder overhead masks your movements, the crack of lightning illuminating the forest around you. For a split second you see your men, like ghosts stalking the forests. But so does another, one of their men falls over himself in terror, his cock hanging from his pants in mid piss, he screams. Others look to him. The scream echoes. You feel the ping of a raindrop upon your helmet.

You see the moment before the seven hells.
Before war.
Terror, fear, flight or fight.
You know it all. You relish in it. Your fire burns hot upon it.
The alarm is raised, men begin to wake, drunken stupors half dressed.
It is too late.
“CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!”

TIME TO RIDE!
>>
So that’s that today, lots of little things leading up to the bigger conflict, next thread, all action, all the time. We are going straight warmonger through the whole thing.

I would do this battle tonight but I lost the sim I made for it, it's somewhere in my notes but I hate to bog down the thread by having to do roll after roll on my end just to see what happens for the narrative.

But yeah, thanks for playing as always. Sorry about my super spotty schedule lately, work has given me a huge opportunity and it sort of took precedent. That being said, I will be running next Thursday, April 14 at 2PM EST.

Let me archive and I’ll be around for questions, comments, etc. As a thought, I think this is the most I’ve ever willing gave you out of hand. +3 Pop and +1 Power. Big day wooo. Haha

Thanks for running dad.

Holyshit the shitposting this thread was unreal, that's how you know you've hit the big time.
>>
>>46600432
So a success on the knowledge roll would have us remember the ruins or something?
>>
>>46600472
>Holyshit the shitposting this thread was unreal
Oh you sweet summer child, you haven't see true shitposting yet.
>>
>>46600472
It was a bit more than I'm use to, but not so much as to ruin my time running. It is really weird to see how many posters I get now. I remember barely having two or three to start a thread and I would dread having to start on a Discussion prompt.

>>46600480
Knowledge success would have given you more information about the various camps, I was really surprised how low that one turned out.

The ruins camp was something only Marceline knew about, Mors and the Bows just didn't have the ability to get that deep into the forest.

Bitch fucking please, I seen some shit. This was just a lot for this quest. It usually never gets this bad.

Everybody knows BQ is the designated shitposting quest.
>>
>>46600432
Thanks for the run dad. Any big fuck ups on our part?
>>
>>46600793
Surprisingly no. You guys hit all the right answers tonight to get the maximum knowledge possible.

And as a note, torturing Marceline will get you the same information as promising to spare her. But Obella would not have been happy to see her live.

Nice. Also a new house was being rolled up while you was busy. House Gauthier the prettiest fucks in the Riverlands.

Thanks for running Daddy.

dem 3 favors in a row at house creation.
Karban luck shone brightly that day.
>>
>>46600970
I saw that last night when I got home and read through it. Shame it never got much further than House Creation, I'd like a GoT quest to actually participate it, helps keep my creative juices flowing.
>>
>>46601085
Started to read through the second thread and looks like someone is trying to do a quest
>>
>>46601085
So disappointing the background was pretty neat...

Then the OP just left
>>
>>46601322
Pretty sure he just wanted to do a house creation thread. That was the feeling i got anyway
>>
Did we ever put in the investment to get that dragonbone bow?
>>
>>46601412
We need to go to Lys to get one, and that'll have to wait till after we've dealt with Redward.

I do give a shit about the Dragon Egg, (surprise surprise) but at the end of the day we can't do much about it if they do decide to try selling it, just have to hope they don't find a buyer before we fuck them up.

Sylvie a best. Luciana just a scheming dornish whore.

Padre, I asked elsewhere but could we send some dornish guards with our kid when we send it to Lysa? We could say that they are there to teach our kid dornish culture as their cover but would obviously be there to prevent and shenanigans
