Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, welcome to yet another session of Eagle Rising.
In this story, we take on the role of Anlec Falconcrest, third son of the noble Falconcrest line of Alterac who leaves home and seeks the life of a knight abroad.
After fighting in the first and second wars, he returns home to find his land in ruins and the name of Alterac a curse upon the lips of men, elves and dwarves.

Can you help Anlec come into his own as a lord?
Can you make the Eagle rise once more?

These are the lands of alterac, fairest of all the kingdoms. Your inheritance is the town of Strahnbrad, located at the center of the royal road that passes through alterac and is the lifeblood that sustains your people. The lands to the north are your domain, and encircled on the map. It includes bountiful farmland and groves that are in good demand for building ships.

A long time has passed since you led your small cavalry force out to help the mages and secure your dominion by destroying the threat of the syndicate and their dark masters of the argus wake

The fortress of Eagle's Perch now belongs to the rightful king of Alterac, Isiden Perenolde, who is known to be just, wise and calm ruler under whose stewardship the land is flowering again.

You hold your court in the spartan but imposing fortress of Falcon's Rest, much like your father, and longfathers before you.

The land had been at peace for nearly half a generation when a new threat to the kingdoms has emerged. The orcs seem to be gathering once more and have broken out of their internment camps and even now ravage the countryside. You ride forth to war, after burying your subordinate, Benedict who you ennobled with the wardenship of the Alterac Valley internment camp.

You are galloping against a tide of orcs with your eagle cavalry, intent on completely smashing them with shot, spear and saber.
>>
The roar of the battle fills your ears as your cavalry charges into the rear of the embattled orcs. Your pikemen have held up well, row upon row of thick pikes have skewered the orcs and have driven them back, blunting the beast's furious charge. As your cavalry crashes into their backs with a thunderous roar, your horse moves ahead of the others. The lust for battle is upon you and you want to spill orc blood

There is no need to rush in pell mell into the melee now. You are now 40 years old. You will probably pull a muscle or worse. Fight with precision, not with animal bloodlust. This is what separates you from the greenskins. you must use it to your advantage.

Luckily you don't have to wait long. The momentum of your charge has driven your cavalry deep into the greenskin lines and split their line open in a wedge. Two tactical options now open up before you.

>widen the wedge, fighting in melee and allow the infantry to pin the orcs down in place.

>withdraw and organize another charge to break the enemy in another location.
>>
>>46972471
>>widen the wedge, fighting in melee and allow the infantry to pin the orcs down in place.

Hey man, you might wanna leave the vote open a bit longer so someone besides me can vote. I'm not comfortable controlling the whole thread.
>>

>>
If you withdraw and try to organize another charge, the orcs might regroup. They need to be kept occupied. Your pikemen will keep them in place if they advance enough.

You get to town hacking down the fleeing orcs. The beasts had been stymied by your men and the pikewall blunting the impetus of their charge. The charge of your eagle cavalry has all but shattered them. The biggest brutes try and stop your riders but they are quickly put down. This breaks them and you are at the vanguard, stabbing, slashing and thrusting into the orcs.

A particularly big one catches your eye. Unlike the others, it is a mottled red and has runes cut on it's skin that hurt your eyes. It must be a leader of some sort. Killing it will break the orcs and free your infantry to engage the orcs on your terms.

There is no need for honorable combat with them, there will be no parley. You made that mistake, and better men than you have done the same.

"Pistols out!" you yell, and whip out the gift you received from Lord Godfrey on your last visit to Tower Pointe. A gilnean pistol, elegantly crafted and perfectly balanced. A pleasure to aim with.

The orcs stare stupidly at you while your riders follow suit. You aim for the leader, with the foul tattoos on his skin, and open fire

The weapon is a finely balanced thing. It is more suited to hunting game and birds than an actual weapon of war. Your shot lands true and catches the orc right in it's left eye. With a roar that is deafening, the thing claps a hand to it's ruined eye and falls, the banner on it's back disappearing from view.

The orcs might have stood there surrounding their leader but the volley from your eagle cavalry breaks them utterly. They begin to run away, some of them even running into alteraci pikes in their rush to escape. The way to your infantrymen is clear.

"YOU THERE, ADVANCE!" The voice is from a gruff sergeant who looks like he has been in combat for some time today. He is not wearing a helmet and his head is bandaged.

His unit of pikemen begins to advance up the road you have cleared, lowered and breaks through. The man is clever. He saw a breach and he took it.

The man seems to have it under control for the most part. Good for him, and good for you. If he doesn't die, he might even rise up the ranks some day. You nod at the sergeant and he nods back.
You turn your horse around and trot back towards your cavalry. Now that your charge has been truly spent, you need to withdraw an regroup. Another charge will destroy the orcs, of that there is no doubt.

As your men withdraw, for a moment you are left all alone on the battlefield. You see your regular horsemen chasing down the orcs or smashing into them like a hammer on a piece of metal. This is going splendidly so far.

You look around and see that there are three places the orcs have gathered for a final stand. One is by the forest, which is being fusilladed by your gunners, one group by the river to protect their flank as the men of lordaeron close in on them.

And the last is a large cadre of wolfriders who seem unharmed for the most part. They are charging towards a group of mounted lordaeronian knights who are carrying the royal banner of lordaeron.

To your alarm, you notice that your gunners are actively skirmishing with the broken orcs far away from the nearest unit of pikes. It is extremely risky. If the orcs decide to lash out and charge at them, they will be butchered in close combat.

Your banner carriers begin to canter at your command, and you follow them. Even as they do so, you see your riflemen firing volleys into the orcs. A lot of them are hitting the surrounding foliage instead of the beasts themselves. You wonder why they are not charging, and then you realize why.

They are working dark magics. You spur your men on to a full gallop and order them to fire at will. They unleash a volley of lead and you see at least two of the warlocks go down in the conven of six. Good, that means you have more time.

The eagle riders begin to rush in at a full gallop, their wings rustling behind them and making an awful cacophany, they will be charging at any moment.

The warlocks are the key to this battle. The more of them that die, the easier to kill the rest of the orcs become.

You urge your horse forward and the rest of your unit follows you. The few orc grunts and spearmen are no match for the tide of steel and horseflesh that descends down upon them and they are cut down without mercy. No mercy for the orcs. Your saber goes down crashing upon the orc, cutting into it's skin and flesh and severing it's arm. Even before it has time to register the blow, a lance aimed at it's neck decapitates it. One of the warlocks summons a spell and a rider catches fire. The poor soul runs into the forest, screaming as eldritch flames consume his body and he eventually dies a painful death.

For it's crime the orc's face is smashed under the iron hooves of your charger.

However, with the warlocks gone, the orcs have charged towards your gunners. Most of them withdraw, but a few unlucky bastards are caught in the carnage and are cut to bloody ribbons. Your riders shoot at the orcs repeatedly while they go about their business, and they are joined by the gunners who are far away. The greenskins disintegrate into a pile of flesh and black blood.

You walk up to the gunners, asking them who their sergeant was.

"Milord, Alric was. He said that we was winning and he wanted to bring an orc head to his wife."

"And where is this alric?"

"Dead milord, the orcs got him and chopped him up right now."

"And who are you?"

"Marl, I told him not to go too far away, milord be he didn't listen."

"Very well marl, this is your unit. Lead them well."

The man nods and bows deeply.

As you return to your bodyguard, you see a knight of lordaeron asking for you.

You don't have time to be distracted by some rider. Not right now. You take your gnomish farseeing device and take a look around the battlefield. For the most part, the battle looks to be over. Your riders are running around and shooting at broken parties of orcs or running them down like pigs.

Your reserves are moving up to the front and your first line is moving to the rear lines. They have performed admirably. All the funds you used from the internment act to train officers seems to have paid off. Men can do impossible feats if led by good leaders. You followed Anduin Lothar across azeroth. Different races followed Turaylon beyond the dark portal. A bunch of militiamen can follow career soldiers just as well.

The only signs of battle seem to be on the lordaeronian side of the field. The wolfriders seem to have lain waste to large swathes of their infantry, and the knights of lordaeron are surrounded. This is entirely unexpected.

"You there, knight? What is going on?"

"My lord Falconcrest, The lightbringer requests your aid. Prince Arthas is hard beset by the orcish wolfriders. They are led by a beast of an orc who glows with demonic enchantments!"

You sigh. Your men are ready. Captain Franklin has your bodyguard drawn up and ready. The man is efficient, and anticipating more combat has your men sorted out into a column. Impressive.

You take your head at the front of the column, and you march from the eaves of the forest towards the far side of the field where the battle rages on. Despite the urging of the knight, your men move slowly It is a fine day, and soon it will be time for the crops to ripen. It is a good day, and as the sun goes down, the river becomes a font of molten gold, flowing down towards the sea. Perhaps you should come here sometimes during the winter. Right after you get married.

The eagle emblem is on your right, and your house colors are on your left as your riders form into a wedge behind you. Your cavalry is almost out of ammo. You will have to break the orcs with a charge.

The canter becomes a gallop as you lead your men. You know it is safer to be at the middle of your riders. You will be old and not be able to fight, but until then, you don't care about safety. You want to feel like the boy again, young and strong.

As the grass is turned to mud beneath ironshod hooves, you lead the charge into the orc remnants.

"FOR THE LIGHT" You scream at the top of your lungs as you charge into the rear of the orc lines, riding them over and making a straight beeline for the prince. Grandstanding the men of Lordaeron is one thing, but you are not going to let the heir to Lordaeron die under your watch.

As your men ride down the orcs, you see the remaining wolfriders being slaughtered. Uther Lightbringer is leading the men of Lordaeron and they are making straight for the the same location.

Uther's men are on foot, and they have been fighting non stop for a while. You are cavalrymen, and the impetus of the charge is on your side. Your men cleave the orcs apart like a sword moving through cloth, and begin to push forward towards the Prince.

Moving towards him, you see a young, powerfully built man with golden hair and piercing blue eyes fight an orc who is much bigger than him. The brute is on a horse and is wearing a mixture of orcish paraphernalia and plate stolen from armories and bodies from alliance nations.

The prince is a good fighter, but to you it seems that he has the reflexes of a swordsman, not a man fighting with a warhammer. The prince is wielding a warhammer like the paladins are wont to and he carries a prayer book. So, Terenas allowed his precious son to become a paladin?

The boy seems hard beset by the orc. No doubt, he would do better if the orc was unhorsed. He has fought long enough and could do with a break.

"To me you fatherless swine, I will end you!" That catches the orc off guard, and just in time. The prince seems ready to fall exhausted with the fighting. Typical Lordaeronian, he doesn't even have stamina.

"Get the prince off the field!" You bark at the knights surrounding him. They grab him and yank him back over the sound of his protests.

The orc turns to face you. It is much bigger than the prince and towers over you, even on horseback. It has a bloody club that it is using with a shield.

Your pistol is out of ammo. You raise your saber for a moment and salute your opponent with it. It is purely a matter of form. Saluting an orc is like casting pearls before swine. The brute doesn't even bother returning it. It roars and comes towards you, a tide of demonic rage and hate. It is a ferocious sight, and would cause a green soldier to break.

You breathe in deeply, waiting for the attack. The club will break bones if you let it. There is simply one thing to do.

You swing away from the club and hamstring the brute's horse. The beast goes down with an agonizing sound that is jarring to your ears. A poor beast, what a shame.

The orc goes down, splattering in the mud and tries to get up.

As the thing stumbles and tries to get up, you push your steed to a canter. The ground is soft and muddy, and the orc needs help to get up. None is forthcoming. Uther has broken through to the cloister and you watch him rush towards his student.

You cannot resist doing a few tricks on your horse as you build up momentum. You were not much of a jouster, but you picked up the tricks they used to wow the crowds just the same.

As the orc finally manages to get up, you rush at it with a gallop. It turns around to look at you and is rewarded with a saber thrust right through it's muscular neck, severing arteries and it's spine.

The battle is yours.

Not even worth a trophy. One of your men digs out the sword and gives it to you. Being the generous lord you are, you throw him a coinpurse. The man catches it and bows low.

"My lord, what shall we do with the bodies?"

"Burn ours, Bury the lordaeronians, let the greenskins rot."

"My lord, the carrion reek will be terrible"

"Do whatever you want with the bodies, I do not care. They are not to be buried, not when we have men of our own to tend to."

Franklin nods his assent and the men begin withdrawing for the most part, carrying their dead comrades. They will be remembered in songs and military rolls, but they will never trod the royal road again, singing songs of victory.

The battle is over. The orcs will not trouble you again.

You trot your horse over, eager to learn of the prince's fate. The little you saw of him in combat was impressive, but nothing to wow you over. You had no doubt he could defeat you now, but if you were twenty five again. Your body ached with the activity, most lords this old didn't lead armies, and fewer still led from the front. You were too old to be duelling orcish champions now.

Now here you were, an greying warrior, perhaps the last remaining member of the brotherhood of the horse, in a land where paladins ran aplenty. A living relic.

You smile sadly at that. All your comrades and brothers in arms, gone for nearly twenty years. You only that they died well and rested easy. Here you were, old and decrepit, playing at a warrior when you should be bouncing grandchildren on your lap.

"Lord Falconcrest, my thanks for your aid during this battle!"

Uther's beard might have become speckled with grey and silver, but his voice, and his arm were are strong as ever. Woe betide the foe that met the living legend that was the lightbringer.

You bow before him after you get down from your horse. He claps his hand on your shoulder, and you barely manage to stand straight.

"Be at ease Lord Uther. I am not as young as I once was."

"Neither am I lord Anlec, neither am I. How long was it since we last fought together?"

"Nearly 18 years. Truth be told, I am happy I fought near my hearth. blackrock spire is too distant for a man of my age now."

Lord Uther laughs, and you find yourself laughing along with him. The hate you had for him had long gone, as you had grown older, you had realized that you would have done the same in his place.

"How is the prince?" You ask.

"Livid that you stole his thunder. He would have me believe that he had it under his control! Can you believe it? Prince Arthas, duelling a Blackrock lord?"

"The boy carried himself well, Lord Uther. He had been fighting all day, and as far as I know, the orcs were fresher than him. Fought like a trained swordsman, too. There was nothing wrong with his stance."

"Though of course, you might be wondering why he doesn't have a sword."

"Indeed I would. lord Uther. The boy is a gifted swordsman, and fights like one who is far more experienced than him. Why is he wielding a hammer?"

"Because the boy is a paladin. Light preserve us, he wanted to become one, and Terenas thought that it would give him wisdom. I like the boy, but he is perhaps a tad too passionate. He charged into combat with our knights too early and got bogged down in combat."

"I know I would have done the same at his age Uther, besides, battles are now somewhat of a rarity now, and there are jousts aplenty. We cannot be young forever."

"No, we cannot. I love the prince as my son, but hasn't learned patience. He is quite unlike you in that."

"Patience is overrated in these times lord Uther. I feel it in my bones. Come, let us congratulate the prince on his victory."

The sky is darkening and the lights in the camp have come alive. Soldiers are moving and clearing tables for you. Uther beckons you to where the prince is and you enter a tent that is Spartan.

A goldenhaired man, powerfully built is polishing his armor and cleaning the last of the gore from his warhammer.

"Prince Arthas, Well fought."

He nods at that, before smiling grimly. "So you say, Lord falconcrest. As I recall, you had me dragged away from the fight. Did you kill the the beast?"

"I would be a poor second if I didn't. The orc is dead. If you want, you can take his head back with you as a souvenir."

The man chuckles grimly at that. "Thank you, Lord Falconcrest. You take the orc that was mine to kill, and grant me his head as a parting gift. Very kind of you."

You burst out laughing. The man has a point, although it was more likely you would be holding his funeral now if you hadn't relieved him. You look at Uther before continuing.

"Prince Arthas, I believe that this was the first time you were in a battle. Tell me how it feels to ride alongside the legendary Uther Lightbringer and bring justice to the kingdom you are to rule one day."

"Very good Lord Falconcrest. I have read many accounts of the battles of the first and second war, and about the brutality of the orcs, and the valor of heroes long dead and gone. But to experience it my self was something else."

"What do you think of your chronicles and books now? Were they accurate? Were they fanciful?"

"If anything they downplayed the brutality of the orcs. The beasts I have seen with my eyes at the internment camps, but I never imagined them to be so brutal and bloodthirsty. They worship demons and sacrifice the innocent."

Uther smiles at that. " We defeated their demons a long time ago lad. Come, we will soon be heading home."

The night passes with as much feasting as you can do. You do not drink much anymore. It sometimes gives you nightmares. Before your forces part way with the forces of lordaeron and return, you think it suitable to give the prince a gift.

You could gift him the pistol Gamil built with his apprentices, but you liked the way it was perfectly balanced. Many knights and warriors were disdainful of gunpowder weapons, preferring to charge into glorious melee, but you know both have their place. This is what makes your horsemen so good. They know when to skirmish, and when to draw steel and charge.
Flexibility wins battles, not charging in with your blood hot. It was the most important lesson in your life.

This pistol represented that, and you would not be giving it to a hotblooded princeling who wouldn't understand it's value.
Instead you give him a pendant, wrought in truesilver and made in the shape of an eagle in flight. It held in it's talons a banner, that has the unofficial motto of Alterac.

You part with the alliance host outside Andorhal, promising to fight uther in a tourney when the fall comes. Andorhal has two harvests in a year, and the summer harvest will be in a few weeks.

The march back towards alterac is short, and you are glad of that.

You come in at the head of the army, with the banner bearers behind you, carrying the banners of the eagle and the falcon, and then the banners the orcs had made. They are being carried by the simple townsfolk and villagers that your men had rescued before setting fire to the tent. While you approved of the sentiment, they had doubtless destroyed a lot of valuable information.

Not for the last time, your thoughts slink back towards the future of your house and your name. In all these years you have not married. You are not growing younger anymore. The nights are always a little colder as there is no one to share them with. Isiden is right. You need to get married soon. You are proud of your king now. Although he has married a gilnean noblewoman, he is now as alteraci as you are.

I want to hear more of how our King grew up in the last 15 years.
>>
>>46977545

You are surprised at how quickly he turned away from Gilneas after the internment act passed. When Genn greymane built the wall to protect his nation, Isiden was cut off from his patron. However, his old mentor, Lord Godfrey guided the young man to seek an alliance with the dispossessed Darius Crowley. He married his daughter, Lorna Crowley, and strengthened the nobleman's claims. As genn was too far away, Isiden broke free from his schemes and became far more friendlier with Kul Tiras, with the aid of a certain trusted war hero.

He became the beloved of the masses when he lifted the siege of tower pointe and saved his blushing bride and father in law from the Syndicate and killed his brother. In a matter of three years, he had gone from a gilnean patsy to a warrior king of old who led from the front, much to your fear.

Yes, the fortune of Alterac has risen immensely. You are thankful for the day you nominated him as king. However, you have no one to share it with. No wife to take care of, no children to tell your tales to.

You never pursued Rathaella. As far as you know, she is still running errands for Krasus. You had so much to do that you never realized that you let Anna go. She found happiness in another man's arms, and you let it be. And here you were, all alone as your army marched out of Eagle's Perch, their banners held high. Soon you would be at Falcon's rest, and be in your bedchamber, dreaming of wives and children.

A sad life, but it was your's nonetheless.

Maybe you could court Lieutenant Thorn. She was the commander of the few household troops that Lorna's father could spare her. Appearances had to be kept up, and you often times had to fluff up their numbers with your household troops. She was attractive in an unconventional sort of way. Long raven locks, covered her head, and her brown eyes glittered intelligently. She was a surprisingly good tactician and an excellent soldier. She rode as hard as a knight, and could hold her own in a fight. What she lacked in muscle and raw strength, she made up for in agility and cunning.

But then why would she bother with an old man like yourself. She had a good life ahead of her, and you would not be able to keep up with her.

Such a shame. You let a girl go by, and by the time another one pops up that you grow attracted to, you are now too old. You would drink, but hangovers felt more terrible every day.

As the militia disbands, you decide to visit Strahnbrad. You haven't seen that town in quite a while, and Anna will want her children to grow up in better surroundings than a castle. She is now an alteraci noble, and you are going to give her an escort to her home.

The march back into Strahnbrad shows you how much has changed. Gone are the crude stone walls made to keep away bandits. Now impressive crenellations guard the roads, and many of the guards you see that salute you are gnomes.
They were perhaps the last people you expect to see in Strahnbrad. What next, dragons masquerading as people?

A bunch of gnomish buildings seem to have come up alongside the walls of the town. The structures are curious, and shaped like hemispherical eggs. Your men look on in wide eyed wonder as the gnomes walk in the streets of Strahnbrad, some of them saluting you as they see the banners.

They have established several workshops and for the most part you see your people trading with them for their mechanical gizmos. This is entirely unexpected. You needed an explanation from Garth about this. You liked gnomes as much as the next person. They were sickeningly optimistic and incredibly friendly.

A slight tug at your side and a voice says. "Mr Lord Falconcrest, are they children?"
One of the twin sisters is staring at them wide eyed. She has never seen gnomes before.

"No dear, they are gnomes. They are steadfast allies of us along with the dwarves."

"Are they little dwarves?"

"No child, they are like friends of the dwarves. They live far away over the mountains, and under them where they work the mines to produce wondrous devices like their dwarf friends do."

You take out the pistol

"See this child, the gears inside are too small to be made with human hands, and our hands shake when we try to craft something this fine. Gnomes can do this all day and not tire, so they make things like this. I am sure they will have many toys for you and your sister to play with."

That story satisfies the child and she begins telling it to her twin, focusing mostly on the little toys. You see Anna smiling at you. It is clear that she is with child, the way her skin is porcelain and the couple of times she has thrown up is proof enough. Not for the first time, you notice how pretty she looks, even when she is so old.

"You haven't seen many gnomes have you Anlec?"

"Not many, my dear. The fact they stuck with the alliance even after the war, makes me think that they are a good people."

"Unlike the high elves?"

"Maybe, maybe not. I do not know. Now come, time to give you a noble welcome back to your old home." You say that as the carriage is opened and the children rush out, running towards their grandfather.

As the festivities draw to a close, you notice that quite a few of the merrymakers are gnomes. The diminutive creatures are adorable but you had never seen them in these numbers before. Many of them seem to be wearing tinier version of human clothes and chatting as though they have been living here all their lives. A few of them are crowding around Lady Anna and her children bowing to them and acting adorably polite. If there was a race not to get mad at, gnomes would be that race.

"My lord, perhaps you might be interested in news?"

"Yes Garth, yes I would."

"The king's orders came in my lord. He says that you are to subsume Queen Crowley's bodyguard into your own unit."

"Why? I always assumed that the queen preferred the company of her compatriots."

"She says that she wants her men to become more Alteraci, now that her father is cut off from Gilneas."

You wonder why. And with a start you realize what that means. Lieutenant Thorn will be placed directly under your command!

"Anything else Garth?

This came in this morning my lord. I was supposed to deliver it to you in person, and I have done so."

An order, written from the king and sealed with his seal. You tear it open and read it.

"Anlec

My wife trusts you enough to give her bodyguards to you.
We want you to be our emissary to Dalaran
to end the matter of the internment camps

"When is lieutenant thorn going to be here?"

"She is already here."
A feminine voice interrupts the conversation.

"Lieutenant Thorn, at your service Lord Falconcrest." A woman in a mixture of leather and cloth salutes you. her body that is tensed as though it is a bow that is fully drawn.

You return the salute.

"Lieutenant Thorn, a pleasure to meet you again."
You extend your hand in a formal handshake and she takes it. You withdraw your hand a bit more quickly that you would want to, but she doesn't seem to mind.

"So Lieutenant, what exactly brings you into my service?"

"The King and Queen have decided that my services are now better utilized in offering you assistance in the speedy execution of all your lordly duties. I am to assist you in any way that I can."

A little offputting, but a nice sentiment all the same.

"Thank you lieutenant. What is your specialty if I may ask?"

"I am primarily an intelligence officer and trained as a bodyguard. I will assist you to the best of my abilities Lord Falconcrest."

"I do not understand my lady, what do you mean?"

"I cannot explain it right now. The matter requires some - privacy yes." A faint blush creeps over her as she says the last words.

"Lieutenant, you can brief me later on the particulars of your services. I intend to be on the way to Dalaran by dawn. We can discuss this on the road."

"Oh." Her voice is mildly disappointed at that. "I shall pack up then. I am staying at the in My Lord. If you shall require my presence before you start, I shall be there. I will see you on the road then." She turns around and leaves.
You are sad to see her go, but watching her leave is something that titillates you at the same time.

After Lieutenant Thorn is gone, you turn back to Garth.

"Garth. Tell me about the gnomes in my town."

"Well about that. They have been arriving steadily since the end of last year my lord. The first few came after Gamil decided he needed more hands to work his craft. Then they brought their families. They were helpful, and paid their coin, so I didn't mind them in the city.

Last spring, they began arriving in greater numbers. From what I can gather, Ironforge is full of them. A few of them came over the sea because they heard that there were a few gnomes here and their numbers expanded."

"Do they cause any trouble? Not at all my lord. They help keep the town clean and a lot of them make toys and things that make our lives easier. Some of the farmers were worrying about winter crops, so these gnomes made this here glasshouse that stays warm during winter. You can even grow crops in them."

"All the same, why wasn't I informed of this?"

"King Perenolde says that we don't chase away our brothers away and they didn't cause problems so I thought I needn't bother you my lord. They largely stay inside their homes for the most part, and come out to sell their wares or if the militia needs them."

"Garth, I care not a fig where they are coming from or who they are. They can stay in the town. However, Strahnbrad will get crowded soon enough. If the gnomes want to stay here, they are welcome to do so. I personally suggest allowing them to tunnel into the mountains to the north. Just make sure that they pay their tithes and once they join the militia, they form their own units."

You know from long experience that units that have people of different heights or builds don't mix well unless they are drilled extensively for the most part. A militia doesn't do that.

You spend the rest of the evening thrashing out an agreement with Ryson and the leader of the gnomes, a certain Gnoarn, whose hair is the most ridiculous thing you have seen. Like the wool on a sheep, it is curly and poofed up.

After you have done, the three of you sign the agreement. The gnomes agree to raise a militia unit compromising largely of engineers and gunners to serve in the defense of Alterac and aid the militia in times of war.

After this is done, the three of you raise a toast to a new chapter of Alterac and Strahnbrad.

Feeling warm and fuzzy, you go to your quarters in the inn when you remember that the lieutenant wanted to tell you something in person.

You tell him that you are looking for a woman with dark hair and brown eyes that has recently taken residence in the inn, and that you are looking for her. Only after you slip him a gold coin does he understand what you mean.

As he goes upstairs to bring the lieutenant over, you get in and sit in a secluded corner of the inn by the door. After a few minutes, she comes over with the inkeep and you beckon her over. She sits down opposite to you, a mug of alterac stout in both of your hands. She takes a swig and you follow.

"Thank you for the drink, Lord Falconcrest, you certainly know how to treat a lady." She smiles at you as you say that. That raises your suspicions. Women don't smile at you unless they want something.

"Tell me my dear, is this a secure location for a conversation?" You smile as you say that.

She looks around before nodding. "completely exposed, and no one will be able to hear a thing unless they are actively listening to us. You surprise me my lord, you are practically a spy yourself!"

You smile despite yourself. Praise from a girl still was a weakness you had, and Lieutenant Thorn certainly was more attractive. Fifteen years ago, you would have drowned in those beautiful brown eyes or admired the shape of her body for hours. You were older now, and a little bit wiser.

"Thank you Lieutenant. It is high praise coming from yourself. I must beg your pardon, but I must ask a question."

"I am at your service my lord." She smiles slightly, the beer giving her pale face a slight blush.

Your smile fades now. "Why are you here? Real answers please, my dear."

"My lord, I told you, I am to assist you with the functioning of your house and estates because the king and queen feel that you might need some help in those matters."

You smile again.

"My lady, I have been a career soldier. I know how to depute my tasks to able taskmasters. Take Franklin for instance. He is not the sharpest tactician, but he is loyal to a fault and an excellent organizer. Or the town mayor, Garth. His daughters are good with facts and figures, and the man knows when to bribe someone, and when to break a few fingers. The only thing they cannot give me are heirs."
>>
>>46972115
Alterac is a shithole, why not arathi, at least that has a nice wall
>>
She shakes her head at that and begins to speak. Her face is becoming alarmingly red now. You raise a hand and silence her.

"Please, tell me where I am wrong if you will not tell me the truth. The king and queen observe my lands prospering, and being friends of mine see that I am not too good with women, and I have no heirs to pass on the ancient name of Falconcrest. They also see that I have been making soft glances at a certain young lieutenant in the queen's employ, who looks attractive in a efficient, and military sort of way, quite unlike the court ladies I cannot seem to court. They send you, to aid you in my lordly duties the only way a young woman devoted to her queen and country can, to warm my bed, and bear me children"

The lieutenant's face is now red enough to pass off as a berry. She is dumbstruck and seems on the verge of bursting into tears. After a few moments, you ask her.
"Well, am I right?"

"No, you are wrong."
A few stray tears fall from her face as she breathes deeply before continuing

"I asked for this assignment on my own. I had heard all about the young Anlec Falconcrest, holding the rear at Thandol Span, leading the charge at Grim batol, fighting alongside elves at Quel'thalas. The first to reach the fallen Anduin Lothar as Turaylon stood over him. A cunning warrior and a master tactician. I wanted to see the man with my own eyes. The few times I have served alongside you, I have served alongside a man who doesn't judge me ill because I am a woman."

She breathes in deep, and looks at you in the eye, her brown eyes now filling with tears.

"Do you think I wanted to come here, far away from gilneas? I loved my land, but I couldn't hold a field command or do anything else other than book keeping. I lost my father in the war, and vowed to be a smarter warrior than him. They kept me as an oddity, for the boys to laugh at. You were the only person who saw me as a soldier I was. I wanted to fight under a man like you. How wrong I was"
>>
It is your turn to feel embarrassed. Before your eyes, the lieutenant is staring at her mug, which is rapidly pooling tears.

"Thank you for the drink" She says in a small voice, before getting up and going upstairs

After staring stupidly at your mug for a few moments, you smack yourself on the head and run back after her.

"Lieutenant Thorn, please wait. Lieutenant Thorn!"

She is about to enter her room and close the door behind her when you manage to put a foot in the door and angle your way in. She hears the commotion and turns to see you, her face filled with tears. It seems that you have a gift of reducing women to tears.

"Lord falconcrest, please leave my room. This is conduct unbecoming of a lord. Even one as boorish as you" She manages to say, with a few gasps and pauses.

"My lady, please. Allow me to apologize. I have acted like a brute in throwing such an accusation upon you. >>agree to her demands. You are a knight and must make up to her.
>>
You feel like you have been here. Fools who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

"anything you say my lady."

She smiles a little behind her veil of tears and sits down on the bench.

"You used to be a knight, Lord Falconcrest?"
"Yes my lady. I still am."

"Then swear your service to me. As my right as a lady I demand it."

You know that it is something knights are supposed to do from time to time but have never done it before.

"I don't have my sword my lady."

"Come lord Falconcrest, we both know that it is not a requirement. You are a knight, YOU are the weapon."

That much was true at least. Lieutenant Thorn did her research well.

"Very well my lady."

You kneel down before her, and she looks like a child on her birthday.

"I Sir Anlec Falconcrest, swear my heart to Lady Thorn and her own. I shall look upon no other woman with lust, and remind myself each waking moment that they can only be the second fairest in the land. I will defend her honor with my weapons and my body, and if the time comes, I shall die with her name upon my lips and a smile in my heart. For she is a lady whose favor is worth dying for. So say I, Sir Anlec Falconcrest."

You could swear she giggled as told you to close your eyes.
You do so, and after a minute or so feel her tying something on your arm. A favor then.

You open your eyes and see her naked from the waist down for a moment before she screams and you close your eyes. A few more minutes pass and she timidly lays a hand on your head.

You look at your right arm. She has tied her underwear as your favor!

She looks at you for a moment and then guides you to the door. Before pushing you out she says, "Farewell. My brave knight." Before standing on tiptoe and kissing you lightly on the cheek.

You stand outside her doors for a moment, looking at the 'favor' if it can be called that.

Then you head off to bed. It is going to be a long day tomorrow
>>
>>46980350
...Oh god we're fucked.

We're going into battle with underwear on our helmet.

...I'm surprisingly ok with this.
>>
>>46980350
Oh boy. What did poor Anlec get himself into?
>>
>>46980350
She fucking planned this, gg.
>>
>>46980381
not even married and whipped.

You wake up the next morning in the parlor of the inn, wondering if your dreamed this. A look at your right elbow makes you realize that this wasn't the feverish adolescent dream you were hoping it was.

You had actually gone ahead and pledged your service to a woman you barely knew and she had responded with giving you her underwear as her favor. Honor dictated that you would have to wear it on the field of battle and a tourney.

As the day begins to brighten, the march towards Dalaran begins. You are going as an emissary and a lord of Alterac. There will be no secret meetings in the sewers this time. You will go with your full bodyguard.
You notice that Lieutenant Thorn has edged her way to the front and is riding on your left, with Franklin on your right. The banner carriers are some distance behind with the rest of your bodyguard.

Good natured grumbling of "was there nothing else you could have given".

Still gonna wear it though.

Now you know I'm going to wear it on my head because I'm a bachelor and bachelor do this things just for the hell of it..

Tie it around our arm or neck for battle, around our lance for jousting.

>not wearing it on your face as your helmet
You knights sound like common dung shovelers.
>>
"Lieutenant thorn, I hope you had a pleasant stay in Strahnbrad."

She flashes a smile at you as she sees that you are still wearing her favor before nodding.

"Quite satisfactory Sir Falconcrest." Before angling her horse a little closer to you. You notice that her hair is pulled back in a ponytail that is bouncing just a little as she is riding her steed. How old is she you wonder.

"So tell me my lady. What can this old knight do for you." You don't know what's wrong with you, but a childish part of you has accepted what happened last night, and the young boy seems to accept it in his stride.

"Franklin, check on my men and see if there is any problem down the line."

"Aye my lord." Dutiful and efficient, franklin runs down the line, being efficient. Good old franklin.

"I am quite interested in your military exploits Lord Falconcrest. Tell me more about you."

"Does my lady command her knight to know more about him?" You ask in a playful voice

"She does"

"And how am I supposed to tell my lady that if she doesn't even grace this poor knight with her first name?"

She smiles sweetly at that. "Elise. My name is Elise."

"Well lady Elise, what do you want to talk about?"

"Tell me about the First war, sir knight. I haven't found too many primary sources, and many of those who fought are beyond the dark portal or in graves."

>Tell her about the battle of grand hamlet

"Well lady Elise, it is for a good reason. People lionize their victories, and hope that their defeats are forgotten, which is a shame. because we learn far more from the latter than the former.

Take the example of the temple of the Damned.
Over in north eastern elwynn forest you will find a small island. All that remains now is a grand memorial dedicated to those that fought during the first war and died during the war. Too many of my brothers have their names writ upon it. Many pilgrims now visit the place.

During the first war, it was one of the earliest places to fall to the horde. It was a nexus of powerful magical energies and the orcs used it to empower their necrolytes and warlocks. After the destruction of Grand hamlet, a small taskforce led by the brotherhood of the horse was tasked to destroy the foul place. We had to strike quickly, and without err, because the orcs would defend the place once they got wind of the plan. Our forces forded the river during a storm, and by tying ropes around our horses necks, we crossed the river safely.

The orcs didn't expect us to strike so quickly, and so violently. We rode them down, and cast down the temple in the dead of the night, and set fire to their foul and profane runes. For our part in this, we were chosen by Lord Anduin Lothar to accompany him into the dreaded tower of Karhazan.

The same stones that the orcs used to ruin stormwind now carry the names of the fallen during the first war. Among them are the names of the fallen knights who died at the lake, trying to destroy the stones."

As you finish your story, a sense of nostalgia overpowers you. You were so young then. It was a different man who had been there, hot blooded and fighting alongside Roboute as you two slew the rows of skeletons

A blast from tower pointe challenges your party, and Franklin rides forth to announce your coming.

We're not in a big rush. Rest the troops.
>>
Fifteen years ago, you would have pushed on, up and over the mountains and into the great blue beyond. Now your were old, and needed to rest a lot more. The troops are called to a halt and begin to bed down in the stables or in the barracks.
You take Elize and Franklin with you as you visit the Dungeon commander.

Lord Vincent Godfrey is an imposing presence in his hat and his Gilnean outfit. Older than you by far, he looks as fit as a man of 30 when he greets you and bids you welcome to his command.
Not his hall. The man is a gilnean and you cannot take the gilneas out of him.

You accept his compliments and are given a bed to rest in as befits your status.

Late at night you are woken up by what seems like pacing footsteps outside your door.

>let the footsteps pass
>open the door and see who is up at this hour.
>>

>>open the door and see who is up at this hour.

>>open the door and see who is up at this hour.
What could go wrong?
>>
This is suspicious. The footfalls are too light to be those of a sentry or guards in patrol, and they are coming from inside the keep. You grab your knife and walk to the door, as you near it, you hear the footfalls stop. This is getting too suspicious for you, you open the door and take a peek.

It is Lieutenant Thorn. She has changed into a nightdress, and is barefoot. As you open the door, she slips in closes the door behind you with a soft touch.

>ask her what she is doing here
>entertain her for now.

"My lady, what are you doing here in the dead of the night?"

She walks up to you, her eyes shining and plants another gentle kiss upon your cheek. Despite yourself you smile at the her audacity. Very few people you commanded would sneak into your room at night to give you a kiss. Fewer still would be women.

"I was just seeing if you hadn't lost my favor, I hear knights can be fickle with that." You open your strongbox and show her the favor she gave you. She smiles again and produces a pair of cakes from the small satchels at her side. Walking to the bed beside you, she sits down and offers one of the cakes to you.

"From Lord Godfrey's pantry. They were quite delicious, were they not? Now sir knight, do I have so many questions about you. Do answer your lady."

>accept her cake
>don't eat it
>>
>>46981519
>>accept her cake
Time for aphrodisiacs?
>>
You thank her as you accept the cake. It is a gilnean delicacy, and tastes like honey and wildberries. You think that if you were five when you had eaten these, you would have gone to gilneas instead of Stormwind. A funny thought, and as you finish eating it, you look at her pleased that she came for a late night visit, with her cakes and kisses, as you finish doing so, you feel like wanting to fall asleep. Elize guides you to your bed, and looks at you thoughtfully.

"You are the strangest man I have met, lord falconcrest."

Then she kisses you on the lips.

You are tired of staring at people in love and imagining what it would be like to hold a body in your hands, soft and yielding to your lightest touch.
You return the kiss with some intensity, even though your tongue feels a little numb. You haven't been kissing too many people in these last few years.
She pulls back from the kiss, her face flushed as she slowly pulls back.
"Sorry, my lord. I didn't mean to. I will be leaving now."

Man I'd prefer the elf, but who is to say she hasn't already had someone for several years.
And the oath we took to Elise kind of makes having another woman in bad taste.

I'm a hopeless romantic though namefag, I like what I like.

Besides thorn gives me bad vibes for some reason.

Rolled 2 (1d2)

>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

"Maybe some day if you are willing, my dear. Now go to bed. Your own bed. We have a long journey ahead of us still."

You gently escort Elize out of the room, and for a moment she seems like a terrified little girl that is being punished by her tutor. She is still young, and young people make mistakes. If she wanted you, she wouldn't have stopped at the kiss.

Maybe some other day. Maybe some other woman. For now, you would have to sleep alone in your bed, just as you had for so many years.

You think it to be trick of the mind, but your bed seems a lot colder after the kiss and the near encounter with the young Lieutenant. As you hear the cold wind blowing from the windows and roofs, you feel a strange kinship to the wind. Like you, it too is alone, howling for someone to be with.

With that melancholy thought, you fall asleep.
>>
And that will do it for now folks.

It will be archived shortly. If you enjoyed it, don't forget to upvote this on suptg.
>>
So, do I keep it here or move it to /qst/?
>>
>>46983400
Keeping it here you run the risk of getting banned like some other QMs.
>>
>>46983400
I'd say move it to /qst/ no harm in moving now that it has an archive. You already have a quest up there. just continue it there if it's still up which should be since not to many people are posting there.
>>
>>46983468
have people been banned?
>>
Alright I will run a session on /qst/
>>
>>46983507
No one has been banned.
>>
>>46983400
I say keep it here.

No rules in effect and it keeps the achives intact together rather than split up.

No bans yet and a number of QMs are still running here.
>>
>>46983631
I still say keep it here as I missed out on this session, also why you faggots not go for Thorn?! She tied her panties to us for a favor, that's some kinky shit right there!
>>
>>46983631
Probably for the best.

>>46984065
>>46984398
>keep it here
>when /qst/ is a thing
>>
>>46984398

Shes obviously attracted to us so matter of time. Like we said, 'we have a long journey ahead of us'. Physically and metaphorically.
>>
>>46984486
/qst/ a shit.

Also going on /qst/ splits the archive. Might as well keep questing here till mod mandate it.

That janitors keep pruning the go to /qst/ reeee posts seems that quests are still allowed on /tg/
>>
>>46982944
>bad vibes
Well in the original storyline she's a bit of a bitch
>>
>>46982582
>>grab her hand, she clearly wants you

missing the kiss vote because I was doing dishes. CURSE MY BEING AN ADULT AND ALL RESPONSIBLE!
>>
>>46984578
>/qst/ a shit
/qst/ won't get better if good quests aren't posted there.
>>
>>46985413
Right now both boards are shit. Antiquest and quest people shitposting everywhere.
>>
>>46985413
In OP's defense, he did start a thread there, but nobody showed up back then.
