/tg/ - Traditional Games

A thread for creating stuff for Cape Games be it characters, teams, powers, universes, or plots.

All ideas are welcomed and encouraged. None are too grim. None are too wacky. The goal is to create things that GM and players can take and put in their own games, modifying elements to suit their own tastes.

Topic Starter: Creation myths and origin stories for your universe. How did the universe begin? When did heroes first appear? Was there a god-wave like in DC or was there a previous universe that died to create Galactus like in Marvel?

Our first roll for the new Outlier is 29. I'll go get the book...
>>
>>47412993
Got it.

Induced Mutant: The hero started life
as a Normal Human, "then something
happened." As a result of a freak
happenstance, the hero has been
physically and genetically altered. The
Fantastic Four are examples of this type.

>>47413022
>>
>>47413063
Self-Achievement: The hero actively sought out a means of giving himself
Power. He developed the methods, procedures, equipment, or whatever
permits him to possess Power. This could be through scientific endeavors
(Henry Pym/ Ant Man), arcane study (Dr. Strange), or physical training (iron Fist).
Anyone can gain Powers similar to the hero's by following this special training.

Next, the weakness. Roll 3d100.

Rolled 51, 14, 73 = 138 (3d100)

>>47413106
So this kid's a bit of a try hard.
>>
>>47413106
So he put himself into cosmic fantastic four rays?

Kid already sounds like he drips with issues.
>>
>>47413122
Energy Depletion: The hero has a finite energy supply that permits him to manifest Power. This energy must be periodically renewed by means of rest, food, Energy Absorption, Energy Vampirism, or simply making contact with a source of that energy. If the hero's energy level drops too low, dire Effects result.

Power Negation: The hero's Powers cease to function

Limited Duration After Contact: The Effect is continuous with Contact and also lasts for a limited time after the hero is no longer exposed to the Stimulus.

POWERS next.

Roll 1d100 for number of them.

How about super people being like anti bodies for a multiverse? They seem to save reality an awful lot. Has that ever been done before?

projectiles.

He wants to get into VS''s snakeskin panties because he's a man and a half and she's a girl and a half, causing friction between their teams because prince blitz loves her and she hates being fought over by macho meatheads?
>>
>>47413324
>>47412965
Maybe that's how the misunderstanding between the Junior Generals and Outliers start.
>both teams hear about a teenager with ghost powers and want to help him out
>Junior Generals have no idea who the the Outliers are
>Viperstrike and Trinity try to be genre savy and assume that the Outliers are a villainous group wanting to manipulate abuse Joe
>the Outliers have no idea why the qt3.14 ninja is beating their ass
>>
>>47413401
It could tie into his weakness >>47413197
If conserving energy is a big deal for him, a shield against draining would be useful.

Anyways, 2 characters generated, three to go.

So we have a guy who fundamentally changed himself after obtaining powers by his own volition. He can now throw bullets from his hands, sense danger, and is steeled against emotions. He only stops when his energy is depleted.

This guy does sound like a messed up individual and is sufficiently weird enough for The Outliers.

>>
>>47413986
>>47414097
Go full Doom Patrol. Her hair (would that count as extra part?) is a living ecosystem. It imparts more tactile information to her than her skin and hands (Hyper touch)

Her hair is resistant to energy because it was a wave of spirit-energy that created her. She's probably from Greece. Got caught up in a war between two Dryad-woods and a blast of magic got her.

Her hair can also make plants grow, imparting its supernatural vigor and growth onto it by a touch.

So her hair can connect with and control plants.

She's extremely self conscious of the magic ecosystem living on top of her scalp. She doesn't want to be a freak. The Dryads call it a blessing, she calls it a curse.

Fellow Outlier teamate "The Pro" made her cry by calling saying her name should be Chia Head.

Anyone have a kinder name for her?
>>

>>47414149
>Prehensile hair
>Plant growth
>Finite power with permanent power loss is overused

Something with plants or seeds? Prehensile plants she can control, spawning from seeds that were "planted" in her scalp? And she can somehow use up those finite supply of seeds?
>>
>>47414149
>>47414190
She could go all out and plug her forest-hair into a large group of plants and kill it by stretching her powers to the max...but although she hates it she doesn't think killing an entire magical ecosystem on her head is moral.

She's a very sweet, very kind girl. Wears a large sunhat with her hair coiled under it because shes embarrassed by it.
>>
>>47414190

No real cape name, assigned file's codename is DEMETER?
>>
>>47414190
>>47414203
>>47414233
So since we have an idea, let's move onto the fourth member.

2d100 please!
>>
>>47414235
>>47414233
She was born with the name Akantha in a village in Greece protected by a forest of Dryads. She's something of a crybaby and coward, and the protective, warrior like Dryads believed they were doing her a favor by transforming her into a formidable forest warrior by turning her hair into a living micro-forest.

Typical divine thinking, like something out of Ovid.

Instead of being thankful she cursed the dryads she once loved and left for America where she fell in with the Outliers. "The Pro" thinks shes a complete pussy wimp, and Tape Deck fights with him because she feels sympathy with her plight. Their fighting just makes DEMETER cry more.

She names herself DEMETER as part of a gambit. She hopes to attract the goddess of the Dryad's attention either to get her to move the micro forest out of her scalp or to tell her off to her face.

We good to roll another?
>>
Rolled 34, 49 = 83 (2d100)

>>47414326
>>
>>47414364
>Breed Mutants: The hero's parents were Mutants, as were any number of preceding generations. Breed Mutants form tribes and have close-knit families; this is a defense mechanism born from generations spent hiding their true selves from normal society.

>Technical Mishap: The hero was caught in an experiment or procedure gone awry, with the result that the hero gained Powers that were totally unexpected. Such freak conditions cannot be completely duplicated, although they can be simulated. Simulations produce slightly different results, though.

Interesting, I have to go do something. If someone else wants to pick up the generation, the next roll is how many powers, talents, and contacts. 1d100.
>>
>>47414436
I can take over. I got the book right here.

Just going through the pastebins of the characters we have stat'd out. Doc,Trinity,Blue Cobalt,Psinobi,Heartthrob,Hotshot Harpy and Viperstrike aren't 100% complete.

Harpy and Doc still have to pick Close Combat: Unarmed or Gadgets 6, Expertise: Science 10 or Ranged Combat: Gadgets 6, Technology 10, Vehicles 4
>I think Doc should get Close Combat Unarmed and Harpy gets Range Combat

Trinity
Expertise (Choose one) 7
Expertise (Choose one: Magic or Science)

Blue Cobalt
Expertise: (Choose one) 4
Resistant: Immunity 10 (choose two 5-point immunities:
Alteration effects, sensory Affliction effects, Fatigue effects, or a damage type (Bullets, Cold, Electricity,Fire, Magic, Radiation, Sonic))

Sorry to be new to this, but I'm a little confused over all the (Choose one) stuff.

I have the Mutants and Masterminds character generator, but could you explain what exactly this is asking for?
>>
>>47414541
3 powers

Lets see what our bloodline tech accident has...

ROLL 6D100!

By the way, what other systems have a character generator? MM gave us Generals and Young Generals, TSR Marvel is giving us the Outliers, what kind of a team could other generators make?
>>
>>47414528
I'd argue Viper Strike's Precise attack should be ranged Concealment.

Launching a shield throw from hiding and yanking it back on a string before starting a melee is very in flavor for some of her original Assassin programming.
>>
>>47414587
An Expertise skill is basically the same as a Knowledge skill in D&D: you have to specify what exactly you're knowledgeable about. For example, Expertise: Magic is exactly the same thing as Knowledge: Arcana.
>>
Rolled 49, 31, 61, 71, 10, 61 = 283 (6d100)

>>47414612
>>
>>47414587
So because we used random generator if it's a list of a stuff we have to pick on or the other.

For Trinity for example she can choose between having an Expertise in Magic or Science for one skill as 6. Then she has another expertise slot for anything she wants. Examples of Expertise are Cooking,Criminal,Curent Events,Dance,History,Law,Medice,Magic,Politics,Popular Culture,Science,Street wise
>>
>>47414587
>>47414721
Beyond that, the quickgen system gives you a little flexibility in defining your character by picking and choosing certain skills or advantages or resistances.

>>47414784
As mentioned earlier, Expertise checks are basically Knowledge checks in D&D.
>>
>>47414721
Oh, alright.
I've read through it again, so should we rolls for these or choose them?

We've already built a lot for these characters so for some things I'd understand why we should deliberately choose them, but for other traits we haven't really established them, or otherwise are left open.

Blue Cobalt being athletic, ex-military, having a rough upbringing or a sharp mind are all possibilities for her past. Should we roll for stuff like that?

Again, sorry if I'm just not understanding this properly.
>>
>>47414677
It's more of a flying guillotine, but yea that sounds good
>>
>>47414840
It's a foldout shield, really.

>>47414847
The age old answer to every dilemma with one of two solutions.
Why not Both?
>>
>>47414677
That sounds pretty solid. Maybe for her choose two, It should be Accurtate Attack and Defensive Attack. Sensei Serpent's fighting style is seems to be defensive and disable the enemy so those two advantages reflect that.

>>47414826
I'm not sure how we should roll for them. Blue Cobalt's Expertise I can see it being Space or Cosmic since Earth is her adopted home.
>>
I need some ideas for escalation after (or while) my party deals with the gangs in their city that isn't gangs+more capes. I'm using WeaverDice in the Wormverse, so all things told, fairly low-key.
>>
>>47414840

How's this for an idea? He's the youngest son of an African family that specialize in being telepathic diplomats. He was born with a very low psychic potential, so they used an experimental device to crank him up to speed with is siblings...but it worked too well. Far too well.

He doesn't read minds. When he reaches out he causes pain to the target. That's just him attempting basic telepathy. When he actually tries to put a thought in a person's mind they disintegrate because he pumps them so full of psychic power. This works on objects as well. Passively he radiates energy across the Mental and Physical Earths that works as a passive sonar.

His family is a family of non-violent telepaths. They are healers that repair broken minds and repair political relationships. He's a weapon that can only destroy people and things.

Out of fear that surrounding nation-states with their own super protector families would suspect them of turning their families into weapons they sent him to America.

His family love him, and they keep in touch, but he lives alone as a self-sufficient teenager. He's the team dad of the Outliers, and deep down he feels abandoned by his family for being different.

His name is something cool in Swahili...what's Swahili for echo?

IS THIS GOOD?

Google Translate just gives Echo for Echo...

How about Kivuli Sauti for "Shadow Sound" as in how he describes his sonar.

I think its good. His a "noble born" like Prince Blitz but he's very humble and low-key while Blitz is proud and flamboyant.

Prince Blitz was fighting Kivuli during the Junior Generals first encounter maybe?
>>
>>47415211

Kivuli being what his mother named him because his psychic profile was as faint and gentle as a shadow when he was born.
>>
>>47412930
>Was there a god-wave like in DC
that's a pretty good way to describe how the new wave of heroes was born in my setting.
the short version is a god of magic was going around the multiverse "colleting" various magical styles, from paladin powers to harry potter wand magic. he was doing this to become a over god, basically a god other gods worship.
he put all these styles into a ball near a seemingly ordinary earth so he could "eat" it and gain all of it's power. what he didn't figure was all those styles would conflict with each other and explode, shotguning earth with magic and awakening the magical ability of everyone on earth.
a few people got a style pre-set into them giving them a "instinct" toward their magic.
this was the birth of the new wave of superheroes and supervillains.

>So every hero is in some way magical?
that's the idea. sort of a inverse of marvel where most of the heroes are magic based and only a few are science based.

>Could they develop their powers by studying magic?
yep, though while they do have a instinct towards their styles a lot of it's pure guess work and they can turn their style into something radically different by simply not knowing what to do or not having the magical materials for it.
for example one guy managed to turn what was basically BDSM magic into a way of enforcing fighting game logic onto people. and one sociopath used simple beauty magic to turn himself into something out of a dead space game

Oh boy. Here we go. ROLL 18D100 FOR SUPER TORGO

Maybe he's something like the son of Pan? His divine powers only awakened when he got caught in some kind of super-science thing. Daddy Pan was hoping to hide his bastard son from everyone by blocking his powers but the mishap caused them to spring forth and now the secrets out.

The kid has serious daddy issues. He doesn't like that his human dad lied to him all his life and he doesn't like that Pan is a dead beat that won't talk to him or acknowledge him. He's hoping that by joining the Outliers he can show both his old men up.

He's sympathetic to Demeter because she got screwed over by the gods as well, and even has a crush on her but she turned him down when he asked her out.

Now he's trying to ask out Trinity.

Let's say she's a military weapon. She's an army brat, the teenage daughter of a captain of a squad of dimension hopping cyborg spies for Uncle Sam, keeping tabs on the Mental and Spiritual Earths.

When she was 18 she volunteered to become a cyborg spy like daddy. She trained her whole life to follow her old man. Its what she wanted to do for her rest of her life with all her heart and soul.

Uncle Sam gave her a secondary computerized-brain that communicates across the Mental Earth (telepathy) allowing covert communication with her squad as long as wherever they are isn't blocked from Mental Earth.

She's equipped with a colony of extremely expensive restorative nanobots keyed to her DNA. Its light years beyond anything that can be bought from consumer hospitals.

Her spine contains a Dimensional Coupler system that allows travel through the 3 Earths. The device's effectiveness depends on location. It's most effective in Australia and weakest in Africa.

Her arms contain electro-magnetic generators that allow her to control magnetism with simple hand motions.

She was put through as the youngest ever squad leader because of who her father was. She was ready to make everyone proud.

And he first assignment got everyone killed in a swarm of Echidna Spawn. If the Rainbow Serpent and the Rainbow Legion didn't show up she would have died with her squad.

She was discharged from the military with honors after her failure, but was allowed to keep the cyborg stuff if she agreed to be the Outlier's military contact and supervisor. Uncle Sam is very interested in keeping tabs on this group of "trouble capes".

Corporal Alice Spencer sees herself as squad leader of the Outliers. She puts on a tough outer front so that they'll respect her and listen to her but is terrified at the thought of any of them ever getting hurt. She has a particular soft spot for kind, innocent Demeter.

Okay. Two ore more users can combine to create a new power. The power can be of any nature. The book says the best example of this power in the Marvel Universe is the Beubier twins Aurora and Northstar (from Alpha Flight) who could generate light blasts when they touched.

Before time, there were tales. The legends of the earth are all true, and they predate written history, even pre-history. Thor and Zeus. Gilgamesh and Cu Chulainn. Lillith and Morgana. Jesus Christ and Siddhartha Gautama. All the legends spoken of today came in the First World, and all the forgotten of the FIrst World may never be known. The heroes and the creator deities and all the gods and heroes of myth were created by the Lovers - Destiny and Fate, for Destiny was what all were meant to become, and Fate was what all would truly become. At the end of the First World, the Lovers grew apart, and all the ends of the world came to pass. Heartbroken and driven to madness in their grief, the death of all things caused by the loss of their love, they split apart and changed completely.

Now they are the Inevitables, Time and Death. When they made the Second World, our world, it was free of the inspiration, the care, the love they planted on the First World. History was complex. Reality was free of heroes. Existence was mundane.

But legends never die, and though the First World may have died a thousand deaths, the pieces yet remain, unknown to Time and Death. Whether a physical artifact that grants power, an exceptional circumstance of birth that develops to supreme power, or simply ambition that grows into the impossible, remnants of the First World remain, and a Time of Legends grows again.

If Time and Death were to see the splendor of the new age, perhaps they would once more become the Lovers.

Perhaps.

>>
>>47417587
I think this is proof of concept on what differentiates M&M and Marvel Heroics. M&M produces something stable and easy to remember with a relatively easy amount of creativity, but more crunchy. Marvel produces a random swing of power and diversity that can leave you with something broken, good or bad, but leaves you out to dry in implementing some of these powers without really specific situations. It is theoretically possible to randomly make a cape with only RESIST: EMOTION and RESIST: VAMPIRISM, which sucks, but you also have a chance to generate a literal god.
>>
>>47417629
Thanks!

>>47417635
Yeah, my whole idea was kind of Sandman-y. I'm thinking the way that powers are conferred are referred to as Shards of Inspiration and, as mentioned, they can be physical objects (a la Thor), ambitious ideas that develop into impossibly awesome shit (a la Iron Man), genetic stuff (X-Men), etc. etc. It's much more earth-centric than most settings, but sci-fi stuff could easily be justified as the First Worlds of other planets, galaxies, etc.

This one's for one of two superhero settings I have, the other one is a horror Spawn, The Darkness, Ghost Rider, etc. setting that I don't actually have a setup for yet. I'm still working on that one.
>>

>>
The Cloud I see as a wunderkind super genius who got invited to study firsthand the imprisoned Hoosier from Gary cloud monster, and during its breakout she and several others came into contact with it. They were all disintegrated, but a white cloud remained when the dust settled with all her memories, skills, and personality.

She's not sure if she's the same person she was before the Hoosier from Gary "killed" her. But she isn't sure she isn't either. She's not much for philosophy. Mechanical science is more her bag and just like when she had a body she pours herself into studying and creating things. Her entire body is now like her mind, busy and filled with gadgets that assemble and reassemble.

She's distant from her teammates, a big brain with her head in the clouds and not just in the metaphorical sense. Corporal thinks she might be obsessing over her inventions to avoid confronting the trauma of what she's been through.

At least the clone kids on the Young Generals know that what they think and feel is actually from their person. The Cloud doesn't know that for sure.

IS THIS OKAY FOR THE CLOUD?

Continuing in whats becoming a Cape World tradition of troubled speedsters like BURNOUT and TURNPIKE comes ROLLER. He got involved with the Sprint drug trade and found out he's like Turnpike. He's a super-metabolism super. Dundo keeps him supplied on Spring in exchange for a college education and an anonymous job on his "Dundo Extra-Security Force" (DEF).

His parents don't know he's in the DEF. They just think he won a scholarship from Dundo based on merit so he keeps his ID secret when he works with them "protecting the city" and doing Dundo's bidding.

The hunted stuff comes into play with his past. He stole Sprint from a couple of gangs in the past, and Dundo knows. And Dundo has agreed to "protect him and his family" from the gangs by making sure they don't ever find out.

The code against killing comes from his good heart. Deep down he's a good man.

>>
>>47418562

...Okay, this can still work.

He's anonymous. He's simply "DEF Chief". NO other name given. He does this because he has a history as an industrial spy and criminal and if anyone knew who he was the cop and super people will be after him. Dundo protects him, and holds that protection over him to get him to cooperate.

His code against killing is...odd. But hey. Just because you're a bad guys doesn't mean you don't have lines you won't cross.

So yes. He wears a mask. And if you take it off he'll be marked to die.

Speedster Tool and Big Guy with surprising moral integrity. What will we roll up next?

This martial artist fell into the wrong crowd in a run down urban neighborhood. Her father had a gambling debt, her mother was a drinker and sick little sister. Her home situation wasn't pleasant to say the least but it became her responsibility to provide for her family by any means necessary. As fate would have it, Bush Viper's dojo was looking for more fighters. Sensei Serpent took her in to train her and provide her family protection in return for an undying loyalty. She grew in strength and showed promise, Serpent showed a great interest in her, became one of his lieutenants and showed her techniques that others didn't know. Her skills grew as time went on and even began to reach a mastery chi that Serpent didn't even know. People were beginning to talk who should run the dojo.

Her days as a loyal came to a close around the time, Science Tyrant and Serpent's new prized student,Viperstrike, came into the picture. The martial artist's missions grew more dangerous. More often some hero or cops were at the location she was supposed to be at. After one too many close calls she came home to find her parents savagely decapitated and Viperstrike ready to end her sister. The two fought and were more or less equal but the martial artist decided to grab her sister and leave.

She eventually fell into Dundo's care as apart of his corporate security team. She's no where near content but her desires are simple: keep her sister safe and kill Serpent and Viperstrike.

Adding on a couple minor details to this. Martial artist under Dundo continued to train and developed her own fighting style to counter Bush Serpent Style. A fighting style that would hone her chi and use it aggressively to break through Serpent's defensive fighting style. She calls it Snake Eatgle

We've been using randomizers to really build up Cape World and examine the pros and cons of each randomizer. But I was wondering if we could make our own.

We talked about 90's grim and grity archetypes in a previous thread. Could we make a generator for 90's characters? Something like 10 Archetypes each with 3-4 subtypes?

How about one for every age of comic books?
>>
>>47419743
Needs to be a belt/pouches value for the 90s randomizer

Also a huege value
>>
>>47419799
Instead of skills you get pouches full of gizmos. A med kit replaces medical knowledge. A smart-guy tricorder device replaces science knowledge.

Huge is just a combination of strength, durability, and hit points. You can use Huge to pull off special moves.

Popularity should be a big issue in a 90's game. It was the decade of pre-packaged trading cards, infinite issue 1s, and chrome covers. The higher your popularity the more super teams you're on and the more allies you can call on. And you raise popularity by interacting with new characters (90's comics were character mills. Team were constantly created to keep creating #1s) and by killing major bad guys.

Darkness is how edgy you are. Dark characters can easily intimidate less dark characters and pull off RIP AND TEAR moves. There's no real benefit to NOT being as dark as possible. If you have a low dark score treat it like a disadvantage and lower your point total for whatever system you're usin

ARCHETYPES:

Supernatural Dark Avenger

Ninja

Muscle Monster

Big Gunner Guy

Parody Super

Feral Berserker

Cyborg (essentially you take Cyborg features first and then some of the features of another class)

Animal Mutant

Need 2 more Archetypes. Any ideas?

Also I think we should use MM for the 90's generator.

Could someone post a link to the MM pdfs?

The Cape that says fuck you to humanity and plays by his own rules. Think Mr Majestic, pre-Alan Moore Supreme, and Miracleman. Behave or else. The 90' randomizer's dark mirror of the Paragon class)

Now we just need to make Attributes and Abilities and what not.

DARK SUPERNATURAL AVENGER

ABILITIES:

1. Risen Dead: The character was murdered, but they have been granted new life by mystic powers to take revenge on their killers and people like them. (Danny Ketch Ghost Rider, Spawn, The Crow)

2. Channeler: The character gains their power through contact and communion with forces from beyond. (Azbats, Bloodwynd,)

3. Shadow Walker: The character walks the shadowy, magical corners of the world. He knows a few magical tricks but his real power comes from quick thinking and deception. Even gods fall for a good hustle. (Constantine, Vertigo Comics, The Invisibles)

ADVANTAGES:

1. The Hunger: The character has a monstrous driving desire to wreck vengeance and spill blood that must be sated. This is either a psychological imperative...or an actual monster inside them that feeds on violence.

2. The Pact: The character has made deals with the devil, and probably more than him.

3. The Initiation: The character has seen the shadows and knows them well as the latest addition to legacy, conspiracy, or organization.

SKILLS

1. Death warmed over: The character is a dark, intimidating figure that knows about scaring people and more about hurting people.

2. Conman: The character knows that words hold a magic all their own.

3. Lost Soul: The character remembers skills from a time before the darkness, before the shadows

Powers and the crunch will come later.

How does this look for Supernatural Dark Avenger?

>>
I'm slowly building up a world based on Golden Age comics and public domain heroes, set in the 1980s, and I'm trying to decide how best to handle space travel.

In my world the trickledown effects of supergenius tech is that the world has tech levels about on par with what the real world might have a decade from now, but in the 80s.

Of course, space travel is a major hurdle to handle. A few notes for my setting:

>War of the Worlds happened. In the end it wasn't a major invasion but we learned about those fucking Martians.
>There are other aliens who've arrived and a few supergenius inventors who made advanced spaceships before the end of WWII.
>WWII ran through until the mid 50s, and was followed by WWIII in the 70s, which only ended 5 years prior to the current day setting.

So I'm wondering if I should make the public efforts at space travel more progressed because advanced tech and geniuses as well as a known need to defend ourselves, or less advanced because far more drawn out warfare and strains on our nations, combined with an attitude of "the superheroes will handle it for us" blase ignorance.

Thoughts?
>>
>>47424857
Mid-50s to 70s would probably produce plenty of great rockets. They would then repurpose the tech to shoot it at enemies. But in those 15 years of peace, considering supergeniuses, there would be a lot of advances depending on the pervasiveness of superpowers. So I'd say roughly on par with RL space travel.

Big Guy with a Big Gun (aka Cable)

The character might be a powerful psychic, or a person that can redirect and control energy. But lets be hones. His power is in his arsenal of big futuristic guns.

ABILITIES

1. Cold Sniper: The character has no time or need for emotion or has been rendered emotionally numb by experiences. (The Punisher)

2. Hot Shot: The character throws out bullets with flair and a devil-may-care attitude (Grifter, Shaft, Random)

3. The Tactician: The character is well suited to leading a team with their knowledge of fire-team strategy. (Cable and his millions of Image clones)

ADVANTAGES

1. The Seer: This character has memories of a future that may or may not come to pass granting them knowledge of technology and events to come.

2:. Death Wish: The character knows its going to all end with him on the slab and he's not going to do a thing to hold back mother nature due to sins real or imagined or just plain boredom with life.

3:Mercenary: This character is a gun for hire that makes his own price and his own rules.

4. Squaddie: This character is a loyal member of a squad that he's been in the foxholes with and will sick by them through thick and thin.

5. The Crusader: The future must not come to pass. The wicked must be punished. All else, anything else, is secondary to this mission.

SKILLS

1. Survivor: The character knows how to survive the most inhospitable locations and situations.

2. Techie: The character doesn't just know how to fire the big guns, he knows how to make them.

3. Soldier: The character has the discipline and skills of a dedicated military man.
>>
>>47424857

Korea is a different country than the two they are in real life due to the Korean War nearly starting the apocalypse when capes got involved. Greece is divided up into unified in name only city states after the gods there got elected into office, ran shit into the ground, then fucked off. It's likely it was all apart of their plan to make a Greece more like its city state past with each city worshipping a patron.

Eastern Europe has a little group of countries tucked in it that are each ran by a family of supers feudal style. Africa also uses the same system because of its tribal diversity and how powers only develop slowly and with great practice. One must be supported by the community if they want to get the time and resources needed to develop their powers.

This is true, the whole war is the mother of invention thing and all.

Still, with half of Europe reduced to an irradiated wasteland in 1957, and America losing WWIII to the Mongol forces of Emperor Seng I the resources for rockets that can do more than get around the globe effectively may be thin on the ground.

>>47425220
You mean who are PCs going to be? Or the setting characters? PCs will play new heroes who are either legacy characters or just all new, but shaped drastically by heroes who came before.

The idea is that pretty much all of the Golden Age stories from the 40s and even into the early 50s happened and it was simple and good, but then shit gets fucked sideways with the extended wars and rise of atomic weaponry.

The details for the 50s to 80s come from the backstories of Iron Skull and Power Nelson, whose stories were set arbitrarily in the future era of the 1980s/90s but both featured a WWIII in the 70s and an extra-long WWII. And Iron Skull and Rex Dexter of Mars both included a "supervillain detonates atomic bombs all over Europe in the late 1950s" historical note so I thought I'd keep it.

Players will be trying to find the old heroes who've been sealed away or vanished because they didn't want to deal with all this war anymore, in order to rally the disaffected masses and fight back against Emperor Seng's forces.
>>
>>47425456
Oh and we're going to play Flashback sessions at times to break it up, with the characters playing low tier heroes from back in the 1940s with the really cheesy Golden Age feel to them, with the results of these flashback sessions affecting how things play out back in "the current time". Did your forefathers accidentally let the group of snake-headed Nazi sorcerers steal a secret formula for atomic supersoldiers and escape across the sea in their U-boat automatons fuelled by the hatred of pure Aryan souls? Well, guess which cult has managed to turn into a continent spanning para-military religion in the modern day?

He was going to go to college in Italy and learn how to feel electronics and cyber space.

Then his family's home was invaded by Detroit thugs looking for kicks. They beat his family to death and raped his little brother.

And suddenly he no longer had the patientce for refining his powers. He went the other way and learned how to turn his powers into weapons. The Pale isn't really one to have henchmen, you have to remember, he's only around to cause misery.

Though when I finish the File, there is an artifact unaccounted for, the book that Chase learned everything from. It's just called The Compendium. Teaches you all sorts of stuff about the supernatural, only caveat is you have to be completely human to read it. Of course The Pale doesn't have it anymore, but it is kind of a seed for new characters with his background.
>>
>>47426521

THE SCRIBE

I see the mystic guy as a guinea pig. Dundo managed to get his hands on the book but it called the last guy that read it. So he's going to use this kid that's shown moderate ability to work with stuff from Spirit Earth.

The kid's a pretty nice guy. He's a happy, well adjusted boy. Wanted to call himself Book Worm but Martin vetoed the idea. Is a fan of THE LIBRARIAN. Finds the book interesting reading, but it sometimes gives him headaches.

He doesn't believe anyone else should have a look at the book. Oh no. They wouldn't understand it. Best just to have the person that understands it most keep it close.

His parents think he's at college like Roller's. Martin has let him use he secret identity of SCRIBE for field missions.

He's hunted because other people good and bad recognize the compendium and want it.

He has a code against killing because deep down he's not a bad guy.

Learned how to make a 40's style magic gun from pages of the Compendium like what Chase might have used long ago. It shoots a variety of spiritual but non-lethal ammunition.

The kid is another one of Dudno's guinea pigs. She doesn't have a secret identity, and was a fairly normal teenage girl with low psychic potential until she volunteered to test Dundo's MENTAL EXPANDER.

The device, so long as she keeps using it, makes her a super heroine. Because Dundo Industries wants to mass produce this device and increase Earth's population of psychics (which will rely on the MIND EXPANDER and its terms of service) she's given the name MS FUTURE because she's the first in a wave of future telepaths.

She feels like she owes a great debt to Mr Dundo for his kindness and faith in her and believes she'll do whatever he needs to repay him.

Will she?

Parody Super

This character is a comedic send up of the traditions and expectations of the past either through their questionable sanity or self-awareness as a comic book character.

ABILITIES

1. Captain No-All-There: The character is...off. They see things and hear things and DO things that just don't make sense. This can range from harmless confusion about the world and reality to dangerous schizophrenia and psychopathy. (The Maxx, Miracle Man, The Mask)

2. The Comic Book character: This character believes they exist in a comic book, which is rather odd considering they exist in an RPG. The character is aware of the audience and players and know exactly where those 1s are coming from. (Ambush Bug, She-Hulk, Animal Man)

3. The Quixote: Loud, bumbling, and gets in the way, this character act like...well, a comic book super hero with all the expected mannerisms exaggerated to ridiculous degrees. (The Tick, Flaming Carrot, Big Ben from Miracle Man).

got to get some sleep. What do you guys think of the 90's randomizer so far? Any ideas for what should be included under other archetypes?

Some ideas for archetypes for a golden age randomizer.

1. Crime Fighter:Sometimes armed with nothing more than a gimmick firearm and sometimes not even that these masked men and women take back their streets from organized crime.

2. Tibetan Traveler: This character has learned the secrets of Tibet and has used them to enhance his mental and physical abilities. (The Flame, Amazing Man, Green Lama, The Shadow)

3.The Theater Magician: Is it real magic or real illusions? Is it both? A magician never reveals his secret... (Mandrake and his many clones, like Zatara)

4. The Super Soldier: Put on flag, fight for freedom

5: The Jungle Queen: Can also be a Jungle King, but those are less common than their prettier counterparts. (Sheena and her many, many clones)

6: The Marvel: The perfect man, created through a super-science regiment, a magic word, or by being a stranger from a distant planet. (Doc Savage, Superman, Captain Marvel, John Carter)

7: The Adventurer: This globe trotting hero uses their wits and skills to foil smugglers, stop wars, find lost worlds and civilizations, and generally save the day while filling in the blank spots on the map (Tintin, Terry and the Pirates, Alan Quartermain, Professor Challenger )

8: The Science Hero: Whether its a belt that lets them turn invisible or a jet pack this hero fights for good across time and space, often against an evil dictator (Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon)

9. The New Man: This character is apart of a new, more powerful version of humanity. Whether they are generally proactive in human affairs or isolate themselves from the rest of the world remains to be seen, but this member of their race at least is adventurous. (Slan, Odd John, Gladiator, basically where super beings were in pop culture outside of comic books)

Anyone got an idea for a 10th Archetype? How do these hold up?

Also, what other "team types" have yet to be rolled up for Cape World? Do we have a "loser" team like the Super Buddies?

So I just finished File 1 of The Pale Files. Any criticism is appreciated, I know there wasn't much action, but that's what the next one will fill in. I scanned a physical copy a little askew to give it that real "somebody wrote this" vibe.

We could roll a "Loser" team. I have no clue on any other random generators though.

So I have an idea for a villain. I'm wondering what people think of him.

Basically, around 20-30 year's ago this young 19-year old had a boyfriend who was a fellow superpowered person. The villain's power was to look how someone expected him to look. So if you think he is a librarian then you see a classic library, if you think he is a villain he looks like you expect a villain to look. Well, using his power he convinced his boyfriend a classic superman like hero to go out and help the city currently dealing with race riots.

In the process of trying to rescue a child caught in the middle of the riot. A shot penetrated the child but the ricochet off the hero was what killed the kid. The superhero felt like a failure and become reclusive, depressed looking for a way to kill himself. Ending in a comatose state.

The villain blames regular people, the city for this and thinks they don't deserve it and so using his power convinces superpowered people to become fellow villains and to turn regular criminal organizations into self-destructive enterprises.

Sounds like he could be interesting. How would the pcs deal with him ?
>>
>>47430489

I figure at first it will be more he is sort of the conspiracy behind different villains and criminal groups the PCs will go up against, so initially not so much. Though I will pepper some scenes with him, I will probably have some sort of tick, or some such that observant players will begin to pick on that these different people all have.

Once they figure it out, it be about dismantling his network and up to the PCs to decide how they deal with him personally. He himself doesn't control what he looks like, so once they know him as him then he can't use his power to seem like someone else.

How would you guys run a solo session of a cape game? What NPCs would be necessary ? How do you balance out secret identity and caped antics?

For example,I have a player who wants to be like batman but all of his villains are his exes.

>I have a player who wants to be like batman but all of his villains are his exes.
That sounds pretty great. Could we get some more detail?
Did he date his exes as his superhero persona or as his secret identity? Do any of them know about both his identities? What made them break up?

I'll be honest, I'm not experienced with running cape games myself, I just want to hear more about Batman vs. his exes. But if you give more info someone more helpful than me might be able to offer some advice.

He never went into too much detail. The player wanted me to base his villains off of his IRL exes. So using MnM archetypes he has a Psycho obsessed with astrology, an assassin, a master of disguise, and a mob boss.

>base his villains off of his IRL exes
That can get into some creepy territory.

Especially if it's just the two of you.
Especially if you have to do the voices.

Yeah...I was planning on intermixing other villains with his exes because I'm not sure if I roleplay women well. The most I've used them is when I'm GMing and some PC's wants to get in her pants. She gets annoyed if they roll low or fade to black if they pass the DC.

Oh, of course!

Now for the Silver Age

1. Science Guardian: This character uses the powers of super-science principals to protect not only his world but worlds beyond. This character is incredibly powerful, but his greatest power is his imagination by which he shapes his power. (Flash, The Atom. Superman)

2. Science Explorer: Similar to the Science Guardian but specializing more in the exploration of the strange and unknown than in the protecting of the world from threats. (Challengers of the Unknown, Fantastic Four)

3. Modern Marvel: The character is just a men behind the powers and costume, with an average man's failings, psychological hangups, and nobility. They never asked for these powers, but feel a a great responsibility for having them ("New" Marvel styled characters like Spider-Man, the Hulk, The Human Torch)

4. The Anti-Hero: Sometimes you work with heroes, sometimes you work against them. Your alliances swing with your emotions or agendas. (Namor, The Hulk, Black Panther. Stan and Jack "tweeners")

5. Super Stranger: The character is from a distant world, a magical place, another Earth, and because of this they might not always feel at home on Earth. But they are determined to protect it at all costs, having grown to love its inhabitants. (Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Silver Surfer)

6.Sidekick: You're a sidekick to another PC! You're probably young and inexperienced and the other PC serves as your mentor or parental figure. They might keep you under a close watch as your powers develop and you might have to prove yourself to them before they let you out in public for solo superheroing. Or they could be like a awesome uncle that takes you on fantastic adventures. (Original Teen Titans, Super girl)

New thread when? I got some more ideas for the SUPER-SUPER RANDOMIZER developing in my head.
