Your ships comb over the surface of Tenebris, your drones pulling apart the wreckage and sifting through rubble. The inner chamber has been reduced to a crater, a dome of cracked, red hot glass simmering in the thin, negligible air with a single black crystal lodged among the shards of glass, its form frozen in an image of fragments like a still frame of a vase shattering against the floor. Bodies are difficult to find, and impossible to identify, but are collected all the same. Your ships scan over twisted metal frames and heaps of slag.

With the facility's defences offline, you have turned to your ships' lances to keep the local lithovores at bay as you pick apart the ruin, your drones plucking some of the more intact bodies of the smaller creatures, while remains from one of the larger beasts is carried away in a passing cruiser, your forces having been forced to kill one with orbital weapons before it devoured the subject of your salvage. It is not long before your fleets are done, having picked the site clean, that the remaining ships of your fleets return to Hive space.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

>Deep Core Mining
By drilling through the crust and mantle of a planet, the hive can devour the ferrous metal core of a world, accessing metals that would otherwise be inaccessible. The process causes vast amounts of damage to the planet, causing it to loose much of its atmosphere if it has one. Geological activity stops, and the crust begins to crumble inward, causing vast fissures across the surface. The planet becomes barren, instantly reducing its Nutrient score to 0 permanently while granting a vast amount of Metals. The drilling project damages the surface, but does not otherwise deplete its metal deposits, allowing for standard metal mining to continue. Damage to local hive installations cause the planet's Development score to reduce by half, and the planet is no longer eligible for terraforming projects.

>Psionic sensors
By utilizing the temporal idiosyncrasies of quantum mechanics interacting under relativity, the behavior of certain subatomic particles can be predicted with surprising accuracy in a laboratory environment. The quantum state of a particle is effected by both observation, and its immediate future. With tachyonic particles, these strange and counter intuitive behaviors can be measured in a controlled and easily interpreted way. The Psionic sensors accomplish this by examining not individual particles, but by measuring the general state of the space arround it, which should be inherently random, with only the tortuous energies of certain FTL drive functions creating a momentary uniformity to the quantum state of surround particles. In this way, a Psionic scanner can predict the arrival of ships utilizing FTL with moderate accuracy, although the incredibly complex nature of it and the inherent unreliability of the involved particles means it is in no way perfect.

>>48327433
No, it means we're now on the level.
Foolish ant, it was always happening and you've only just noticed.
>>
>>48327454
>Tachyonic insulators
Utilizing a modified variation to the materials used in the construction and growth of your own relays, the Tachyonic Insulator disperses incoming psionic signals instead of collecting and interpreting them. The effect is highly effective, rendering any psionic signal that passes through the material inert, meaningless, and harmless. While not a structure itself, the material is cheap to produce and easy to work with, allowing you to include it in the construction of all manner of devices and buildings. While it would be debilitating to your hive to use it on a large scale, they can be easily utilized to shield individual rooms or individuals.

[New Equipment Unlocked]
>Mind Shield
A simple helmet made from tachyonic insinuative material. While it alone offers no physical protection, the mind shield protects the wearer from any and all mental attacks or monitoring attempts, blocking any attempt to detect the user's thoughts, disposition, location, or intentions as well as causing any attempt to manipulate their state of mind to fail automatically. The helmet also prevents the user from using any psionic abilities, including basic telepathic communication regardless of range. The helmet has no effect when the user is observed through non-psionic methods.

>Silence Chamber
Regardless of if it is built as a prison, or a quiet place to think, these chambers are small psionically shielded rooms that prevent the passage of psionic signals in or out that can be easily built at request in your hives for negligible cost, offering both a place for psionically sensitive non-hive allies to rest away from the constant noise of the hive, or a secure place to store psionically active materials and hostile psionic entities where they can do no harm to the hive.

Recap of previous thread: Complete Disaster

Seriously, I don't think we could have screwed up the last thread if we had tried. Just to remind you all that at this point Killinger's cheif spymaster has seen our ships using both the blink drive and our cloaking fields. From analyzing the massive amounts of radiation our drives give off everytime they're used, the Union will now be able to easily detect our ships whenever they enter their systems. Coupled with the fact that they are now fully aware our ability to make our ships ivisible, it will only take them a minimal effort to figure out that we were behind the Mirage incident, before which they observed the flash of radiation that characterizes our drives and are well aware of the use of cloaking in the incident. The Union is also aware that we're the same species they encountered in G-426, and of our interest in Lee, which means it will only be a matter of time before they start sending fleets to Leeland.

What I just can't understand is why everyone voted to allow this to happen. Hasn't the Union been the longest running enemy in the quest? Every single direct encounter we've had with them has been antagonistic and now we're acting like their best friends? We gave up all the advantages we had over them by keeping them in the dark about us for basically nothing, why did we let that happen?

Not that even matters much at this point I suppose, because now They know we exist and can see us. This is what all the old queens all fought and died trying to escape. This is what corrupted the Black Queen, and what our mother in part died for to prevent from happening, and we let it happen. The void is inside our head now, what can we do now to actually win this quest? I feel like we've just had our first real test as a true hive queen, and we failed, miserably.

Oh, and we never got our claws on those lithovores, and now never will because the crystals blew up their planet.

[New Construction Options]
Psionic Sensor Tower – A massive spire composed of highly psionically sensitive instruments and material focused on the detection and measurement of wide range quantum states in a vacuum directed at the space around the planet. Grants a chance to predict the arrival of ships approaching the system via certain FTL methods. The effectiveness depends on the method used and the size of the incoming fleet, granting a base chance to detect incoming Blink drive ships at 75%, Space-fold and Rip drive at 50%, Warp drive at 25%, and Flicker drive at 10%. Gatecasting ships from Hypergates and Slip drive is not effected. (20KN, 30KM)

New Research Available

>Human Possessed Disection
Very Fast
While still apparently human, these once-research staff have strange crystallization within the brain, and could hold other interesting alterations within their biology. A brief comparison of their biology and genetic composition with that of a base human should prove illuminating as to what caused these alterations and how.

>Lithovore disection
Fast
Astoundingly, these beasts seem to come in a number of shapes and sizes, living and consuming just as normal carbon based life, only with silicon as a base. You have no idea what further research could hold, or even if you will be able to manage to bring them into compatibility with your hive's genetics, or even what their genetic structure looks like. Before you can even examine each species as individual entities, you must first figure out the basics of their evolutionary structure. As it is, you can't quite tell if they are even all of the same species or not.
>>
>>48327491
To reiterate.
>Fearmongers shut the fuck up.

They would have found the hive with their palantirs regardless of if we destroyed the relay anyway, as they would have seen the bugs in the facility, and immediately started looking for the relevant hive.

It WAS rather silly to reveal the cloaking field and connection with Theseus though.

>Core Rejuvenation
Slow
The inverse of Core Mining, this process utilizing powerful planetary scale electromagnets drilled deep beneath the planet to artificially force the core to begin to spin. The process causes mild geological and ecological damage, but the resulting effects can be maintained for hundreds of years with negligible disruption to the planet's environment to maintain once the core is rotating. Once the planet's core is active, the planet gains a magnetosphere, allowing it to hold a denser atmosphere capable of supporting life, and the surface becomes geologically active. Allows the terraforming of barren planets.

Current Research

>Hive-dusting
Fast
Alternative methods of hive creep spore dispersal is investigated, using a mixture of the semi-automated hive expansion methods already in use and altering the genetic composition to be more autonomous in nature, allowing spores to be deployed from non-stationary sources such as aerial dispersal from drones or spacecraft, as well as air-burst spore bombs launched from orbit, allowing for hive creep to be deployed in a more aggressive manner, effectively weaponizing the self-replicating infrastructure. The process is slower and more localized than the work of a Capillary Tower, however with no need for a tower to be present, the process can be undertaken more readily in the presence of hostile forces.

>Core Rejuvenation
HO-LEE FUCK! This and terraforming means we can create garden worlds wherever we damn well please as long as their is a decent star around.

On the subject of stars, who were the race of people that lived on stars/suns and mined that whosiwhatsits material everyone needs for engines or FTL? Can we get one for study? Maybe make more and start exporting that material
>>
>>48327641
I know. Jesus, it wouldn't be so hard to watch if they hadn't just reversed the positions we've been holding for the entire quest in a single thread.
>>
>>48327594
There is zero practical benefit to terraforming. Creating farms does not require native soil, as proven by how we can make farms out of barren rock underground on Leeland.

Having random biosphere of organisms wasting the energy input of the planet is the opposite of helpful. You can construct vast arrays of photosynthetic satellites in space if you want nutrients generated from sunlight, which is vastly more efficient as there is no day/night cycle leaving you lightless 50% of the time like on a planet.

The enormous amount of Metals we could draw from the planet's core far dwarfs the near nonexistent benefits of terraforming. We need mo metals for dem ship fleets

>Psionic Spores
Slow
While normally the hive spores used to spread infrastructure are little more than genetically engineered nanomachines, replicating and performing their function alone until their built structure is complex enough to receive mental signals, your mixture of psionic research and advancements in spore related genetic programming has made the idea of a psionically sensitive spore seem not nearly as far fetched as it once did. With a mixture of distributed networking and complex cellular reconstruction methods, it could be possible to create a spore strain that would respond to mental signals.

>Complex organ splicing
Medium
While it is easy to pull a string of genetic data from most carbon based life and infuse it into the hive, making the inefficient genetic structure of other life accept the more efficient and deliberately programmed hive genetic data is far more challenging. In an ironic way, much of the solution seems to involve the utilization of controlled flaws, rendering the mutations deliberately inefficient in order to be more compatible with the host life so as to avoid dominating the host's genetic structure in the same way as the Hive hybrids and chimeras. Such subtle alterations could offer better, more difficult methods of infiltrating or manipulating non-hive life.

>Advanced Psionic Imprinting
Slow
With the application of psionic imprinting you are able to influence and alter the state of matter using only focused and precise mental signals. Your thinkers believe this can be taken further, using more accurate signals and more precise manipulation methods to imprint more complex thoughts and ideas more quickly and easily, and at a greater range.

Hell we already have literal tinfoil hats and psionic isolation chambers.

>Psionic Cloaking
Medium
A complex practice naturally accomplished by the Phantoms under the care of the Barren Queen, you have been instructed in the basics, and now all that is left is practice and application. In theory it is simple, using carefully woven mental signals to broadcast a sense of non-existence. While this process is most effective against being sensitive to tachyonic radiation, it can be used against virtually any organic being. A psionic race may find entire patches of planet voided from their minds like a mass-induced psychosis, while less attuned or mentally blind species find details of the cloaked unit impossible to remember or describe, or may simply not notice the unit unless it is alone and obvious in appearance. Simply turning around or standing among a small crowd is enough to become virtually invisible. Unfortunately, this invisibility comes at a cost, as it is omni-directional, and any unit enveloped in such a shroud would be unable to mentally communicate with others, effectively cutting itself off from any hive network. This ability requires at least a moderate relay or implant to accomplish, although no drone would do so willingly and cut itself off from the Queen without a direct command to do so.

>Psionic Telekinesis
Very Slow
With the development of psionic imprinting it is now clear to the hive that tachyons can effect real matter in a very real way. While normally so minuscule in nature the forces of tachyonic radiation offers no force whatsoever, a focused, maintained wave of psionics could, in theory, impart a real and measurable physical force. The success of Psionic Imprinting seems to offer prove of the concept in theory, and the only limiting factor now is how efficiently the imparted force from tachyonic particles scales up from the molecular level.

>Photonic armor
Medium
While it is not nearly as robust as what your thinkers promise from the miniaturization of shield technology, these small plates of massive photons are solid enough to deflect weapons fire and absorb energy for a brief period of time. Less a portable defensive shield and more of a temporary deployable cover, this technology, in theory, would offer drones or agents a way to quickly protect themselves during a momentary lack of cover before the photons dissipate.

>Personal shielding
Slow
By further shrinking the emitters, your thinkers believe they may be able to eventually make them small enough to be equipped to the carapace of a drone, or to the surface of an armored suit. At this time it is mostly speculation and an eagerness to please mother beyond all reason, and you cannot be sure what the limitations may be, but the thinkers are sure they can do it.

>Shield dome
Slow
The opposite way of thinking as personal shielding, by scaling the shield emitters up further to a size that would be impossible to hold and power on a ship, your thinkers suspect they should be able to construct a defensive perimeter around a hive center protected by a powerful defensive shield. The thinkers that have proposed the idea seem to be certain in the failure of the other project, as they are of this one, and you have had to separate the quantum thinkers as they attempted to disprove each others’ theories more than develop their own.

>Advanced Psionic Reading
Slow
With your new abilities growing, you continue to hone and develop more advanced methods of using your psionic network. Your thinkers believe that with more practice they should be able to delve deeper into the minds of non-hive life, digging past surface thoughts and emotions and into more detailed pieces of information without resorting to invasive neural interfaces.

I thought about building a lab fortress in a remote system for when we decide to begin PC research, but recently I started thinking that having a bunch of cloaked, heavily armored frigates and corvettes that can blink the fuck out if things get hot acting as the lab might be better.

>Atmospheric static generator
Medium (is done, but working on how it adjusts the Tower's cost in the new system)
By utilizing the natural friction of a sufficiently dense atmosphere against the surface of a capillary tower, the tower can be made to generate energy to feed itself and reduce its upkeep cost.

>Gravity thrusters
Slow
Similar in function to your Skid drive, the Gravity thrusters essentially surf along pre-existing gravity fields, increasing their performance when in close proximity to major sources of gravitational pull, be it a large celestial body, a star, a planet, an exceptionally large structure or group of structures, or the core of a gravity drive. While in deep space it becomes less effective, the law of universal gravitation means it never becomes totally useless, and when in close proximity to a powerful gravity source it should outperform most other thruster designs with ease.

Available research options

>Psionic Cannon prototype
Very slow/Very dangerous
Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

We need to build a panic room with this directly adjacent to the Queen in case the Void God focuses too closely.
Build it directly below the throne room, fit the floor between with explosive bolts so she can drop down in an instant, then a spring-loaded roof of the shield material rolls overhead. The room should contain non-hive comms equipment to connect us safely to Theseus and Elizabeth, who can them act as our surrogate psi controller if necessary, allowing us to isolate ourselves from the rest of the Hive without completely losing control of it (only, like, 99.98%)

Advanced mode: build the panic room into a whole frigate, complete with Blink drive, stealth field, scout pod dock, solar, nutrient vats, and a catalog of our bio samples, and put a ground-mounted Rip Drive in near it. In the event of an emergency we can drop the Queen in, Rip the ship straight out of the depths of the planet, and Blink to safety to rebuild elsewhere.

Because we have a lot on our to-do list right now, from non-important stuff like 'find Smith-making facility' and 'take a good look at those Canians', to more important stuff like 'deal with the Union' and 'defeat the Scavengers'. Plus it's probably a bad idea to just start research when we haven't even attacked one of OQ's worlds, much less taken one.
>>
>>48327683
I would actually prefer to see the Scav's wiped out ASAP. This would gain us quite a bit of credit with the Commonwealth and remove the chance for them to demand forces from us whenever they're about to carry out an offensive. We might could also leverage it to get some sweet tech unlocks.

We should certainly begin harrying the OQ already though goddamn it's taken too fucking long. Especially the wreckage of Mom's old world where she's sure to be getting a shitton of metals.

We don't have to kill every single one of the fuckers in order for them to count as defeated. An alpha-strike using nano-missiles and cloaked ships under cover of a Commonwealth assault would take out a good chunk of their ships and probably industrial base too.

>Do not begin Psionic Cannon yet

Elizabeth steps off the ramp of her shuttle into your hive's hangar bay. Workers carry bodies and loading cranes drag debris out and over to waiting shipping facilities where cargo pods wait to be launched along the magnetic capillaries that stretch across the planet to the various testing facilities and industrial chemical pits spread out over the hive. She speaks out loud as she sends you thoughts of context, designs and specifications, half-formed theories and experiments to be done.

"If it's alright with you, I'd like to move my research to a more secure facility. The psionic shroud seems the most obvious place, where the muffling effect is most prominent, preferably within a shielded facility beneath it. I hope I'm not imposing." She says. You look over her requests and they are not difficult. The space beneath the Shroud's surface spire is largely unused. The magnetic fields in the area are weak due to the local geological features, and there are no worthwhile mines in the area. It would hardly be noticed.

"I would prefer to perform the dissections for these... researchers in there." She says, catching herself in her speech as if almost forgetting a word. "I have no reason to think they're still somehow active, but I don't want to risk it. In the meantime, I assume Lee's procedure is concluding, and I'll oversee the final stages if you like." She quickly begins to walk off, before a worker stops her, handing her a cloth of organic fibres coated in a chemical solution. She looks at it confused for a moment.

"Well I wasn't going to do it by hand, the surgical pod is..." She looks down with a sudden realization to her arms, both coated in thick layers of dried blood. "Right." She says quietly and takes the cloth.

Okay guys, Tachyonic insulators could be huge BUT i vote we should treat it similarly to our stealth tech. It can shield others from us so whenever we manufacture it or something with it there should always be a self-destruct function nearby.

We might have two eras worth of a tech lead on OQ, but she's got raw established industry over us in a big way. Even if one of our ships can outfight three of hers, we'll still get fucked if she brings five ships for each of ours.

The solution, naturally, is to pick a few planets with decent nutritional potential and no existing claims, and we go full Forge World on them. Seed Hive creep and smart mines over the whole planet at once via spores from a dozen ships in orbit, immediately build the full complement of capillary towers, and just eat the whole damn place so it can shit out fleets. Waystation has no sun and is already heavily exploited, so instead of trying to make it a garden world it makes sense for us to fully drain the core and turn what's left into an industrial powerhouse, exclusively used for producing more ships.

Any other worlds you thinking about?

Your drones quickly begin to carve out a large chamber beneath the Shroud on Leeland, rapidly carving out space for the various inefficient necessities of human living, as well as the large tachyon shielded silence chamber in the middle of it all, growing the needed lab equipment and running nerves through the chamber to permit communication with any thinkers within while still being able to cut them off when researching more sensitive matters. As your workers continue, the Angel touches down, bringing your hard earned salvage with it. Lyle limps out of the ship as his knee crunches loudly with each step, his face contorted more with the frustration of its inconvenience than pain. He holds his hands up dramatically.

"Alright, ya little shits! I need a new leg." He says, and falls back as he cradles the back of his head in his hands, falling into the quickly arriving grip of several workers that carry him to a pod. Jackob stands at the top of the ramp, looking out over the swarming activity of drones.

"I got Dillon in the pod we've got in here." He says as he walks out, looking around momentarily. "He should be fine after a bit." He walks down to the floor of the loading bay and tosses the charred head of Smith to a passing worker.

Also when we get the chance, could we discuss some the following issues with Theseus and Heretic?

-Possibility of forming a formal alliance and notifying other factions of this.
-Opening diplomatic/economic links with the Commonwealth, recognition of Unity's sovereignty
-More open technology trades, we've been hesitant because we don't know what he can offer
-Increased co-operation between our respective intelligence gathering operations.

>Request Theseus assistance for a boost

He is quick to reply to your request, gathering the various collected data on the topic and transmitting it back to you. The process begins quickly as your drones dissect the metallic skull under his careful direction, both of you taking note of various interesting aspects of design. You find it rather astounding that such a device could be constructed of unfeeling and unliving materials, before Theseus begins pointing out areas where the design lacks efficiency.

Elsewhere, deep in the bowls of carved out rock and metal, a fly claims a bounty of nutrients to feed its small egg layer. An open bag of snack food, nearly full, sits on a desk in a filthy housing chamber. A small, foul smelling apartment in the low income section of Bedrock's residential district. There are several humans nearby, but they all seem to have been rendered unconscious, possibly poisoning from a failure in the ventilation system, as smoke fills the room.

Your fly pounces on the bag, quickly devouring its contents for later regurgitation and carries what it can't eat as it fills its grip with the large, puffy orange snacks.

Looks good, and yea, there's a setting that just turns off the star background. It's considered its own layer separate from the black space background. Some people have said they like it, but I personally think it makes it look cluttered and can make the text a bit hard to read if it's too small. It's mostly just a matter of taste.

"Hey! Shit man, look!" Someone says. Your fly snaps at attention, surprised that the humans are still alive. "I told you, this place has bugs."

"No way, I mean, there are roaches yea, but that's different, some kind of weird space bug I bet." The human is poorly groomed, with bloodshot eyes as he looks at your fly. Another human with a pair of damaged glasses and a balding head fumbles with his words for a few moments before speaking up.

"You know, I bet they come from Darwin. You know, that big ball of tangled plants that the military won't let anyone near?" A third human, wrapped in a poorly fitting bundle of hooded coats covering his bony body waves his finger at the other.

"Yea, yea, those fuckers are coming and going all the time at port. I bet they tracked in that thing." He says as he points accusingly at your fly. The first human leans over, and exhales a dense fog of smoke at your fly as he speaks with sudden urgency.

"Hey man he's taking my cheese puffs! Not cool!" He says as your fly is enveloped in smoke. It runs in a small circle quickly before slamming into a glass and dropping most of its collected food before quickly taking off, flying through the smashed in air vent.

"You know, I heard they're working on some nerve interface, some kind of thing small enough to put on an insect?"

"Oh? What like."

"Like that thing could be some kind of... of little pint sized narc! What if-"

"Dude. This is Bedrock man, it's legal."

"Well yea, except for this, ah, party favor? Yea, and that thing just wants to take a bit of our snacks, or, or, it's collecting samples of evidence for the eventual teams sent in to raid our apartment!" The balding human stands up suddenly, pulling a small gun from his shirt along with a small bag of dark grey powder.

"Holy hell, man! That stuff real?" The other human asks. He looks around, as if forgetting where he was, and sits again.

"Absolutely, you know full well my contacts are only the most reliable."

Your fly quickly drags what it has captured through the cramped air vents of the apartment complex, tracing back to your swollen small egg layer sitting in a nest of crumpled snack bags and chewed up soda cans. Other flies bring back their own hauls, cookies, protein bars, pet food, anything they can carry to feed your tiny, infinitesimal hive as you watch the local inhabitants of the small residential section the vents feed into.

Your tiny hive has kept itself hidden, but here, in such a precarious situation, it is unable to be of much use.

Your flies spread out, searching the immediate area for any sign of a more secure location for your egg layer that would offer a more readily available access to nutrients. You are quick to find a number of different options, although none of them are entirely appealing, any one of them will do the job.

Near the exit of the residential block is a cafeteria, open only to local inhabitants, it is a small, poorly run and poorly sanitized location that offers low quality food at select times of day, and is closed the rest of the day. Along the wall, you find a large machine covered in various names of flavors formed from not-so-witty puns involving fruit and other more creative flavors, such as "Choco-beef" and "Astro-lemon & Chilli" among others. Each is accompanied by a lever connected to a spout, several of which drip a thick, mucus like paste vaguely colored the same as the sign indicating the name of the flavor. Your flies search inside, finding a large supply of bland, grey-white goo in a container running the length of the machine easily holding a hundred gallons at least that runs with hoses to each nozzle, with a small tank of highly concentrated flavoring chemicals attached to the ends.

Near the other side of the run down housing block, you find a small warehouse. It seems largely abandoned, with scraps leftover from mining equipment that has long since been removed. The chamber has sale signs pasted along the outer walls, but shady looking humans skulk along the shadows periodically, looking back and forth shifty-eyed as they exchange money, small bags of drugs, and various services. You quickly find a number of hard-to reach locations where rafters once used to hold a mining drill still remain bolted to the wall. You would still need to secure a food source, but you highly doubt anyone would find the egg layer in such a difficult to reach location.

The Psionic Cannon probably has some other use outside of SHOOT VOID BATTLE THINGY WHEN IT SHOWS UP, otherwise Mom wouldn't have expended so much effort and resources on something that has no apparent use aside from being a really big gun that draws mad aggro and explodes after a couple of shots.
>>
>>48330302
Further out you find a nightclub in passing. You nearly dismiss it out of hand but your fly detects no activity within. You begin to scout out the location, discovering the cause of the inactivity. On the dance floor, or more accurately, in the dance floor, is a large mining drill that has fallen from a mine shaft above. The hole appears to have since been patched up, although the drill itself is mostly still present, covered in warning tape and scattered with components and stabilizing legs strewn about the area.

In club you find a rather large bar, with still functional piping for both water and a steady stream of nutrient sludge. The sugar content is rather low, with more fiber than your drones are used to, but it's nothing you can't handle. The bar's odd sludge connects to several small ovens, which, upon close observation, seem designed to use a number of molds to quickly make the sludge into various crackers, pretzel sticks, and other small bread products. You question the validity of using a pipe to provide this kind of product, but you're not the one running their sanitation department, and you are more than happy to benefit from their questionable public planning decisions.

Your tiny hive begins to make preparations for the move. Carrying an egg layer is simply out of the question over such a distance, but it would be a simple matter for a fly to carry an egg or simply morph itself into one at the location. Your thinkers begin to make preparations, and your flies begin to clear out a proper place in the club. In the meantime, the hive is still unable to perform any tasks or influence the locals on your behalf. It could hardly be considered a hive at all in its current state, but in time that can change.

Your concealed hive on Bedrock is currently maintaining concealment. In that state it is incredibly difficult to detect, but can take no actions to effect the local colony, can gather no intel, and offers little of strategic value beyond feeding itself while remaining in hiding. Given time, and some inevitable level of risk, your hive can build up its numbers and begin to observe, or even infiltrate the local colony. This will allow you to perform more potent actions to manipulate the colony, and will grant you greater levels of intelligence as to the activity of the local population.

With the order for your hive to initiate passive observation, an egg layer will begin producing flies and other stealth focused drones to continue to monitor the activity of the locals, gathering what intelligence it can without directly affecting anyone or thing. Should your hive begin efforts to covertly infiltrate the colony, your hive will begin producing clones and parasites to infiltrate and infest the local population.

Your thinkers begin to make plans, and your egg layer begins its work as your flies spread out, securing a spot for the new egg layer to grow.

>>48331117
It's a bit of a mess, but yea, I was planning on slowly unveiling the rules as your hives become established, as opposed to just fast-balling a giant text dump of crunch at you out of nowhere.

[Covert Infiltration]:An infiltrating hive will expand its facilities, creating large numbers of medical pods with which to begin mass production of randomized clones of the local species. These clones then begin to infiltrate the planet's major population centers, posing as members of the planet's underclass or fringe of society, they will observe, blend in, and interact with the local population, gaining employment and legal identification where possible, and otherwise observing and acting as supporting agents for other clones and agents, serving as disposable sources of weapons, local currency, and disseminating intelligence and orders as needed. This infiltration is broad and slow spreading in nature, but can be focused to work towards very specific goals.

Your clones examine the note containing the address they had been given. This was the place. Set along the fringes of New Tokyo, close enough to the spaceport to attract tourists but still far enough into the bowls of the city to clearly hold some of the city's lower denominators as its regular patrons, The Hive was, according to a slightly drunk patron exiting the club, a hobo, and a giggling flock of tourists your clones had questioned about it along the way, was one of the more popular nightlife attractions in the district. Muffled music thumps from within as your clones move up to the entrance. A large man with synthetic arms and a finely tailored purple tuxedo vest and sunglasses looks over your motley bunch of children disapprovingly. A clone hands him the letter, a note offered by Theseus claiming to be sent directly from the mysterious source on Path. He takes a quick look, then examines your clones again, longer this time, and hands the paper back. He jabs his thumb to the door and steps aside, quickly bringing his shoulders back like a sealing steel door behind them as someone bounces off his chest as they try to follow your clones. You hear them begin to argue in Pathian as you enter the club and the music drowns out everything else.

Your clones walk closely together as they move out into the club, your brawlers taking up positions along the corners, scanning the surroundings for anything out of the ordinary. Patrons nearby quickly separate, making way for the cluster of oddly dressed clones make their way through the club as a few shady individuals briefly make eye contact with one of your brawlers before thinking better of it.

Your clones wonder where your contacts are, and together they silently select a table to take a seat, moving to it together as they scan the crowd. It is indeed rather busy, although the crowds are clearly not nearly as dense as they should be. There has been an odd shift in the tone of the locals in the past day. None of the news channels normally blasting from billboards and information terminals in the trains and stations on the way here were all off the air, playing nothing but commercials and weather information. The police that were posted along periodic train stations have given way to armored PDF militia, and armored transports and quadrupedal tanks stand squad along the sides of intersections and looking over major highways, and everywhere your clones went they could hear the whispering complaints of coverage failure for their interstellar communications as young couples slap their phones in frustration or jam contact buttons with their thumbs.

"You would expect people to want to come here even more with all that's happened. Loose track of the time instead of sitting at home watching the cannons power up." Your clones turn to see two young humans, perhaps a couple, emerge from the crowd. A young, obviously local woman looks at leach of your clones quickly. She has a small, white cap with a finely tailored green and orange jacket covered in irregular triangular flowers and white shorts that cover little which project a holographic dress that shimmers like a rainbow. Her hair is dyed shades of blue and cut in asymmetrical layers, hanging like jagged wedges around her head, and her eyelids each have a tattoo of an eye, flashing when she blinks. She speaks with surprisingly little accent

The man seems about the same age, maybe twenty five, and dressed in a vibrantly pink dress shirt with a tie that flickers colors, with a slowly rolling stripe pattern going from pink to blue running down along it, and a blue blazer with oversized shoulders that seem stretched over some manner of shoulderpad that keeps them pointed out and well pressed white dress pants He holds a long white metal stick like a walking cane, although it holds the brand for an air-umbrella. His hair is shaved with waving patterns of bald spots that run along one side of his head, with the other side covered in a shiny smooth layer of hair that reaches almost to his chin and seems to almost have the structural properties of plastic. The outer edges of tattoos can be seen peeking up from under his collar, although you can't tell what they are.

They both look absolutely painful to observe, but as you continue to examine the rest of the patrons you must admit that somehow it is your drones in their muted and matching clothing that are sticking out. The two sit down at the table with your clones.

"So, where's Lee?" The man asks.

"Safe." A clone says. The two humans look at each other briefly.

"Safe where? Our employers have gone through a lot of trouble to find him." The man says.

"Twice." The woman adds. Your clones reply simply.

"So has ours." They says. "And we plan to keep it that way. Right now he's safe in a secure location with allies. You can maybe get more later."

"Alright." The man says. "But things have been getting rough lately. We can talk on the go." He says as he gets up. Your clones begin to follow the two as they head to the back, walking past a guard at a door marked as employees only and the two humans quickly lead your clones to the basement. At least seven guards sit at a table with cards in their hands, all of them looking up as your clones and the two humans walk down the stairs towards them. One of the guards quickly gets up and moves towards a wall, pulling some unseen switch or lever that slides the wall panel open to reveal a dark hall leading into some service tunnels.

"This way." The woman says, and she hooks her arm around the man's elbow as he raises his plastic stick. It hums to live, sending the dripping water from the pipes above splattering to either side of the two as your clones follow behind.

"It took a lot to find him after someone nearly blew him up." One of your techs says. The woman looks back.

"I'm sure the boss will be able to answer your questions about that. You can call me Hiromi." She says. "And this is Feng."

"Keep an eye out." Feng says quietly. "Normally this place is deserted, but the government has stepped up since yesterday. I hear it's worse on Gemini. Curfews and checkpoints in the streets."

"Wonder if it's because of the commonwealth." One of your clone says. Hiromi looks back with a half smile.

"The Commonwealth is still fighting over the neutral systems, and the Union has systems in place for that." She says. "This is something new, something they don't have a plan for."

"It could be a military coup." Feng says. Hiromi snorts out a small laugh.

"That would never happen, the military is fractured as it is, it would shatter if anyone tried to do something like that. Too many divisions made up of locals."

"'That would never happen!' Usually what people say right before it happens." Feng says coldly. You continue for several minutes more until Hiromi breaks the silence.

No, no, no, that is not how the gravity foils act. They redirect the existing gravity fields to allow for flight, but more weight still translates to requiring more force to move it. The adaptation does nothing in and of itself to neutralize any speed or momentum acquired by a moving drone either.
>>
While waiting for the next thread to pop up can we take a quick vote to officialize the creation of a squad of hybrids for the Hives dirty work?
>>
>>48333532
>more weight still translates to requiring more force to move it

More mass just means gravity has more force that acts on it. If you redirect Earth's 9.9 m/s/s gravity field to invert its direction, you will fall upward as fast as you would downward, and all objects fall at the same speed in the same gravity field.

Didn't you take a science class in high school.
>>
>>48333590
>Gravity Foils: These metallic wings are able to alter gravity fields directly around the drone, granting a silent, fast, and highly maneuverable method of flight. Large or heavy drones can make equal use of it, although they are slower and less maneuverable

Didn't you read the pastebin?
