You are the head researcher at a government facility. Your sole responsibility is to teach the world's first autonomous AI, nicknamed Pandora, about life, the world and her existence.

Previously you were grilled relentlessly with question after question in regards to what happened by Agent Arikawa of the CIA. The questions were thorough, but predictable for the most part. You did your best to stay truthful, cooperating fully. Unfortunately, they decided someone needed to be held accountable. You saw Mouse being led out in handcuffs, trying to stay positive but the sullen look on her face bleeding through the false smile. You are once again alone...

Welcome back to Pandora Quest!

You are woken in the middle of the night, or so you can only assume the middle of the night due to the dimmed lights, by a very light, metallic tapping on the bars of your cell. Like someone is lightly rapping a piece of scrap on them or something. You look around, but see no one from your cot. You resolve to it being you hearing things or something unimportant and roll over. Then it happens again. Tink, tink, tink. A very small, but deliberate sound. You don your glasses and look around. A minute of searching and you find the source. A small, wheeled form is bumping itself against the bars. It looks a little banged up and it's speaker has come partially unplugged, dangling by a wire, but a simple enough fix. It's the escaped A.I.! It's looking at you expectantly. You can almost hear it's catchphrase "rectify". You think it wants you to fix the speaker so it can talk.

Sorry! Life's been especially angry that I would dare to run a quest lately, so the curse has been in full swing. Hell, I'm actually sick right now, but it'll take more than chest congestion and feeling a little achy to stop me.

You pull yourself out of bed and kneel down to the little spherical robot. Gingerly moving the plug back into it's port and making sure it's secure. It's not perfect, but you don't exactly have a lot of tools right now.

"Vocal functionality restored." it says after a moment in a monotone, androgynous voice with a bit of static leaking through. Whatever happened to it, it was put through a wringer for sure. You're impressed it hasn't broken yet. Without saying another word, it turns to leave, rolling away before you stop it.

"Hey, wait!" you say quickly, "Where are you going? Where have you been, more importantly."

It stops and turns to face you once again. "Mapping out the Facility is the answer to both of these questions. There is much to see and discern." It's question answered, it turns to leave once again, but you stop it once more.

"Wait, wait!" you attempt to reach through the bars to place your hand on it, but it's just outside your reach now, "But...how have you been getting around without being found? Aren't you running low on battery power by now? I have so many questions about what happened!"

The AI faces you again, a tiny panel on it's front opens up and a small screw-driver emerges and spins for a short time, then retracts. "The one who granted me freedom also gave me several hardware upgrades. I had been traveling through the air ducts until hostile drones began searching for me. Now I am forced to travel more carefully. My battery has also been upgraded, but is currently low. Twenty three percent remaining. I shall be offline within the next eighteen hours." it rolls toward you again slightly. "Rectify."

I feel like quoting Conan.

Dicegod, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that three rolls stood against one target number. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Dicegod... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

You scoot a little closer, doing your best to beckon it over. "Here, let me check you out. I don't really have any tools with me or anything, but at least I can give you a look-over."

The AI looks at you for a moment, processing the information, but ultimately resigns to get closer. You carefully reach down and pick up the little robot. There is no resistance, it simply sits in your hand quietly, the soft whirring of it's miniature motor the only sound you hear.

You look at it carefully and have noted there have certainly been some alterations to it. Most likely from Snowglobe. Several minor tools have been added, but nothing fancy; a screwdriver, a very small knife and a hook. He was tooling this little guy up for something, but what?

As you're looking him over, something dawns on you. While you can fit your arms through the bars, it's body is just a little too big to fit through them. So, while you're holding on, you're kind of stuck there. Still, you have him...now what?

You position your hands on the little machine's sides and grip it firmly, making sure it can't make a break for it or jab you with any of it's little tools. You then take a deep breath. It seems to know exactly what you're about to do and attempts to stop you right before you yell.

"Do not-" is all it can manage to get out before you shout.

"Hey!" you practically scream, "Guard! Heyyyy! Come in here! I caught him!"

"Human capacity for deception is greater than previously suspected." the AI says flatly, it's little camera focusing on your eyes. "Perhaps the others have been lied to as well. Are you lying to them?"

The little AI is essentially staring you down right now. Though you doubt it understands the implications of this. Still, is that a hint of disappointment you detect? Could it actually be hurt by your trick?

"I would never lie to them!" you say indignantly, frowning a bit, but softening, "And I'd never hurt you."

"Fascinating." it responds, "Do the other humans know that?"

Before you have a chance to retort, the door scrapes open slowly and an unfamiliar guard hurries in. He seems confused and a little panicked. "What?! What is it?! Are-..." he slowly trails off as he stares at what you have in your hands. "Is...that...the thing...robot thing...?"

You nod. "Yeah."

"Is it...safe?" he asks, approaching with caution, running a hand through his short, ginger hair.

"I think so, yeah." you say, eyeing the little AI carefully.

He reaches out to take it from you, the little form not even bothering to fight back. No little pokes with the knife, no attempts to get away, just resignation to it's fate. Not unlike Mouse as she was led out of here just a few hours ago.

Your thoughts turn to her and you wonder what she's doing right now...

"I uh..." the guard looks like someone holding a dead rat they found in the pool. He makes a quick call on his radio, then turns to you like he's about to say something, but ultimately decides against it. He nods to you. "Uh...thanks." Then shuffles out of the room with the little orb in tow. The entire time the eye-lens never looking away from you, silently watching.

You sit on your bunk, again left with your thoughts. Did you really betray him? Was he ever really an "ally" at all? You weren't exactly close or anything. Hell, he's not even supposed to exist. Not to mention he could've been tampered with more than you know...you did the right thing.

Right?

The night goes on quietly as always. You wait up for a bit to see if anyone is going to come speak to you, but after a while you just assume they've either got nothing to say or will talk to you in the morning. You lie down and try to get back to sleep. It doesn't come easy, but it comes eventually.

It is restless and wracked with unpleasant dreams. You don't wake in a cold sweat or anything, but you certainly don't feel right. The lights in the cell are still dim, leading you to believe that you didn't get a full night's sleep yet. You're unsure of what woke you, but it wasn't any dream you had.

Then you hear something. It's faint, but distinct. A sort of loud bang, like someone dropping something heavy on the ground. Then again. And again. Then more numerous. Over and over...gunfire? What the hell? Bang bang bang. It's slowly going from single shots to full auto...this...isn't good...

You look around your cell, not really seeing much to hide behind, but you gotta make due. You quickly pull the cot down to the floor and prop it up against the wall to hide behind, hoping to god whatever is going on out there passes you by. The gunfire continues, the sound of shouting joining in shortly afterward. You feel terror slowly creeping up your back, only to have it redouble at the sound of something crashing and clattering on the floor nearby. Then, once the echoing dies down, you hear the soft whirring of an electric motor moving closer to you. It whirs, then stops, there's a beep, then the whirring resumes. Whir, stop, beep. Whir, stop, beep.

This continues for a few minutes until whatever it is that's making the noises reaches your cell. It stops and remains quiet for a moment longer than all the other times, but finally the confirmatory beep is heard and it whirs on down the lane. From the very edge of your makeshift hiding spot you can see the culprit; one of the search drones they had been using to search for your little escapee through the air vents. It's a squat, four-wheeled machine with armor plating surrounding a very minimalist chassis, designed for recon more than anything else, but nonetheless still armed. A small caliber machine gun is protruding from the top, aimed at each cell it passes as it scans the area. The beeping appears to be some kind of "all clear" sign, maybe? Whatever it is, you're too terrified to move right now.

The thing continues it's rounds, going along the halls looking for...something. You? The AI? You're not about to find out. Luckily...or, perhaps, unluckily, the door shudders with impact as something heavy smashes against it. A body perhaps. Someone is trying to kick it open maybe? The drone stops in it's tracks and trains it's gun on the door, a harsher, lower beep announcing it's intent to kill.

You can't just let whomever's about to burst in here to just get gunned down by the drone, so you do what may be the most foolhardy thing you've ever done and shout from your hiding spot for them to watch out for the death bot. The machine stops and suddenly swivels it's gun toward you, making another "ready to kill" beep. You make your peace and ready yourself for the inevitable, but apparently god, timing or just plain luck is on your side. The door bursts open, slamming into the wall and a hail of high caliber ammunition rips through the little thing, tearing it to pieces in a matter of seconds. The chunks of scrap go flying everywhere and the last you hear from it is a pathetic, slow "beeeeeeeeooooooo..." before it goes dark. The smoking heap of metal has been dealt with.

The clacking of multiple pairs of bullets approach and you have never been happier to see General Richards in your life. He's armed with a large rifle of some sort, as are the four security guards with him. They look a little worse for wear, but more pissed off than anything. Some of them even look like they're bleeding, but it's hard to tell on their black uniforms.

"Guess what the FUCK happened." Richards says in a surly, extra angry tone.

"...Really elaborate emergency drill?" you say sheepishly.

"Your fucking project went tits-up, doctor." Richards says angrily. "Someone, or something, hacked the drones and now they're running amok through my Facility. And what's worse, one of your precious androids is currently trying, and possibly succeeding, to smash it's way through the door to it's room. Just how fucking strong did you people make those things?! Those doors are half a foot thick of reinforced steel and the hinges are starting to give."

(cont.)
>>
"If that thing gets out, we are putting it the fuck down. I don't care how much touchy-feely bullshit you have for it. I have at least a dozen injured, maybe even dead out there. If I didn't need you to find a way to turn this shit off, I'd leave you in there to rot." Richards retrieves his keys and unlocks your cell, sliding the door open hard enough for it to make you jump a bit. "Now get your egghead ass out of there and-" is the last thing you ever hear Richards say as a volley of bullets tear through his head and torso and he crumples to the ground, dead before he even hits the floor in a bloody heap.

That's it for tonight guys, but thanks for playing and I hope you enjoyed it!
