Dan lifts himself from his embedded spot in the soft ground, taking a few bits of mud and grass. He shakes it off.

“We’ve got company!” Connie yells as she throws her Snorlax towards the Golem.

You only see the one Team Imperium member in the distance through the window in the dark, but soon several more start appearing by the light of opening pokeballs.

“Plunderers.” A voice cracks over a megaphone. “A long drop from being respected community leaders.

“General Harris,” Geno mutters under his breath, recognizing the voice.

“I’ll make you a deal. Send your best to battle me. Let me crush them into dust. If you win, I’ll destroy our cameras.”

Your group looks among each other.

“Harris is scum, but he’s never broken his word.” Emma offers. “At least, the exact wording.”

There’s a root cellar that your group might be able to tunnel out of. It’ll take some time, though. There’s also the option to just fight your way out.

You look to Robin. She seems to react best to sneaking out.

Clair audibly expels air from her mouth. “Yeah. Okay. Scary.”

An Air Slash strikes the cabin wall. “I’m waiting!”

You wave out the window. “I’ll battle you! But what do you get if you win?”

He swaggers around a bit as a show to his troops before answering. “Your surrender, of course. We’ll be putting you on trial, showing the public that we are the law and order now. Make sure everyone knows to fall in line.”

You head to the door. Robin stops you. “Be careful. We’ll start tunneling, and if you’re not ready to go, I’m coming back for you, okay?”

I don't mind the overall idea, but I assume anons are ready for him to have some kind of safeguard against the possibility of Kat fleeing, right? Like setting up in an arena surrounded by pokemon-powered forcefields a la the E4 arena or whatever. I mean, he probably won't have access to that specifically, but something to stop us at least.

You kiss her on the cheek.

You’re handed a pill for the drug that blocks psychic powers. “They don’t last too long, but it should take a lot longer than any battle.” There’s another warning that it might slow your reflexes slightly. Emma seems concerned that an altered state may make mega-evolution difficult, but she’s only speculating and isn’t sure.

They might now know about it. The group has only hammered out a few helmets so far. They’re crude and heavy, but can also probably do the job.

The signal that the tunnel is ready will be a Thunder strike. Can't miss that.

You swallow the pill quickly and head out the door. Team Imperium members surround you and the cabin in huge numbers.

“Kept me waiting.” General Harris says. He’s a large, strong looking man with a military look about him. Except for his smile. There’s a smug condescension glued on his face there.

“We weren’t expecting company.”

He grins some more. “I hope nobody is going to attempt to escape. We have you surrounded on all sides. Besides, it wouldn’t look too good to see the old guard be such cowards.” He gestures around to the huge numbers of Team Imperium members.

That’s when you notice it. These are all just regular people. Probably taken from local towns. You thought it was weird they’d have such big numbers.

And that’s probably why he’s making a show of this. He wants to make an example.

“Three on three okay with you? Since you’re not even a gym leader or anything like that, I’ll let you pick whatever works best for you. It’s a shame the OLD COWARDS are hiding behind a LITTLE GIRL.” He shouts at the cabin.

Dan floats up beside you. He’s only taken a minor hit.

Charizard flaps it’s wings and lifts itself into the air. It’s on.

You shake your head. They weren’t kidding about that drug slowing you down. It’s nothing too big, but it’s a distraction.

“Raistlin, Dodge!”

Charizard uses a Fire Blast. It’s blindingly bright and deafeningly loud. Raistlin teleports out of the way as it explodes on the ground, making a burning spot and leaving little bits of burning grass here and there. The wind from it blows your hair back.

“Good job!”

Raistlin nods. It was a good job. He’s not being prideful, it’s just an objectively desirable outcome.

Something is off, though. The wind hasn’t stopped. You look up into the sky and see the flame on the Charizard’s tail vanish as it goes directly behind it’s body.

“Tailwind.” The general announces. “Hornbeam has enhanced our Pokemon beyond their normal limits. Forget what you know.” Did he use the fire to create a Tailwind? Was it just a move he can use very quickly? If it weren’t so dark you’d be able to see and have a better idea.

You can’t see it well because it’s tail is behind it’s body, but you know the Charizard is coming in fast.

Certainly can't complain about their popularity, and in the grand spectrum of MC make-up they gotta be up there. Probably a bit more common than straight FeMCs I'd say though I don't pay as much attention to quests as I used to. Straight male MCs are still the one kind that vaaaaastly outnumber them though (and are just as cookie-cutter).

Personally I have no qualms identifying myself as a completely biased lez MC fan.

Charizard comes flying in. The speed and weight behind his attack will be brutal.

But you have a plan. “Raistlin! Focus Blast. Hard and wide, right in his path!”

The brown ball of fighting energy whooshes through the air. It thwomps, for a lack of a better term, right into the air in front of rapidly approaching Charizard. There’s now a large vacuum that’s rapidly filling back with air

Charizard’s flight path derails in the rushing void. It’s wings fold in and the large Pokemon is jerked down and to the side. It smashes hard into the dirt. Raistlin casually floats the few inches to it’s right to avoid being hit by it as it slides. It pushes itself up, looking like it’s barely able to stop itself from ripping apart the closest Team Imperium member watching from the sidelines.

Harris is clearly upset, but he’s not worried. “It seems I’ve been too lenient. Charizard! Transform!”

Charizard rages and shakes it’s head. It starts heaving violently. The flame on it’s tail grows and shrinks with each breath. This doesn’t look like mega-evolution. It looks...terrible.

It heaves and rages. The transformation, whatever it is, looks painful. It’s hard expands and the colour of it’s skin turns a vaguely pink colour. There’s a sickening sound as it contorts and takes on a shape that looks vaguely like a Charizard mixed with a..Lugia?

“Psychic! Hit it now!”

Charizard looks to Raistlin, then teleports next to him. Shadow Claw penetrates through Raistlin, lifting him off the ground. Raistlin slumps and Charizard tosses him to your feet. He roars savagely.

“Raistlin!”

Raistlin slowly moves. Shadow claw doesn’t actually cause any physical cuts or wounds, but it’s still a very disturbing image.

Charizard turns and roars at the crowd. He keeps rushing up to people like he’s going to attack. Seemingly just to make them flinch.

“Dragon Claw!”

The colossal monstrosity comes rushing at Destiny. She twirls into the air to dodge.

But it’s no good. Charizard shifts on it’s approach and catches Destiny in the air. She cries out at the pain as she’s sent spiraling out of control.

“Whirlpool!”

Destiny gets her wits together and uses Whirlpool. A spinning vortex of water smashes into and traps Charizard, preventing it from being able to flee. It looks like that hurt a good amount, too.

But with Destiny hurt, and Charizard’s speed and power, you’re still feeling pretty worried. That is, until the wind dies down.

You look to Harris. He smirks. Charizard is still pretty fast, even without it.

“Finish it, you weakling!”

Charizard moves towards Destiny, but it’s nailed right in the face before it gets anywhere. It’s not a strong blow, but it’s strong enough. Charizard stumbles, then falls back. The whirlpool throwing it around as it struggles to get up.

Charizard passes out and the Whirlpool seeps away. Destiny lands nearby.

For some reason, Harris still smirks.

“Good job, Dest-”

A purple blistering growth on Charizard’s back rumbles and bursts, sending a slash of goo in every direction. Destiny spins out of the way. It lands on the grass, sizzling through.

“Hmmph. Well. as lucky as you are, you still have two more of my Pokemon to contend with. And they’re fresh.”

He holds out a hand and one of his grunts delivers him his other ball.

“Dodrio, go! Do not disappoint!”

The three-headed bird screams out in three distinct voices. It looks like it’s going to transform right away.

Also my take on the Avatar quest (if that's what happens)
I'd like to see a Republic City quest some time in-between Airbender and Korra.
I feel LoK really missed out on exploring the colorful industrialized Hong Kong-esque city. And you can have all sorts of shenanigans with corruption, the gangs, probending, underground bender fights and so on. As far as the PC there could be plenty of starting points like a rookie cop just starting out in a city full of warring gangs, a lower ranked Probender with dreams of the championship, a fresh new immigrant getting caught up in a life of crime, or any other number of things.

Dodrio does the same thing as Charizard before it. It heaves and jerks. It’s feathers shifts colours, except this time they become more of a spiky yellow. Electricity sparks off of it. It vomits.

“Ice Beam!”

Dodrio is hit hard. It’s super effective! It’s legs stamp as it tries to maintain balance. It shakes two of it’s heads while the third makes noises at Destiny. A fourth and fifth pop out from the sides and scream terribly.

Dodrio is badly hurt. A weak move should be able to finish it. Then again, who knows, with whatever they’ve done to it. Of course, Destiny isn’t exactly in great shape right now either.

“Destroy that Pokemon! Five Headed Fury Attack!”

Dodrio’s five heads stop biting at each other and they focus on their target with eerie unison.

Dodrio comes after Destiny with impressive speed and coordination. It’s five heads work together to try peck at her,

But Destiny is the best at dodging there is. She bubbles and weaves. Bubbles and dodges. Bubbles and bobs! Each time Dodrio strikes at her, it instead gets a Bubble to the face. It’s a lightning fast series of exchanges, but at the end of up, Destiny avoids all but the last two strikes.

Dodrio heaves and coughs as purple bloats form on it’s body. It stumbles over near a few people in Team Imperium uniforms. Most are probably regular people that were forced into it from local towns. But there are some that have to be old members too, right? You can only guess based on how they carry themselves as to who is who.

The sound of a single Thunder faintly booms from behind you in the distance. That’s the sign. The group is out.
