I blink, the sun is in my eyes and my face is burning. My feet feel like I've been walking on glass and my eyes sting horribly. It feels like I've just woken up from a long dream. Groaning, I rub my eyes to wake up and...and realize I'm standing up.

Slowly I look down and see I'm wearing a tattered brown Kimono that's been practically torn to rags. I..don't remember wearing this. I grab it and pull on it, trying to remember when I put this on. And nearly cry out in panic and confusion as I realize, I can barely remember anything else but my name.

I look around, and see a balding man with a face ruining scar running from his lips looking at me weirdly. I back away from him, wincing in pain as it feels like someone just hammered a nail into my skull

I got not clue about Bleach myself, so I can't help you there. As for the QM.
Rolls are Best of 5, crits override. If a second 20 is rolled in one set as the sixth roll it still counts, but not for nat1s. Nat1s and Nat20s always count even if the rolling option didn't win.
Don't panic! Nat1s aren't instant suck, just a failure.
HM quests tend to be a homebase of the /u/boat fleet. Expect accordingly (except One Piece Quest, which is romance free).

If it looks like something bad is going down, keep in mind HM, for his faults, ultimately wants to have fun together with us, he will never ever do things to fuck us over. If bad things happen its for narrative tension and so better things can come later.

I'm standing in an old graveyard, the moon is shining full and bright above my head, like a pool of silver. Dull pain runs through me like a river as I lay on the ground, clutching my side as I try to keep me inside of me.

The demon that took a bite out of me stands above me, laughing loudly as it drags its knuckles over the ground as I bleed out from the hole it left in me.

Its white and horned mask splits open and...I blink and see the man, frowning as he shakes my shoulder. I growl at him and he backs away covering his face.

"Back off" I bark as I instinctively move my hand to my side for my sword "I can do a lot more than walk around you know"

"Forgive me, I was only worried about you" He says, sounding like a maiden in the hands of a bunch of thugs again "there's a lot of bad people round these parts of the rukongai, I was only worried about you"

"Yeah right" I say flatly as I slowly move my hand over to my side and turn my head over to look at how bad the wound...

I run my hand over my intact side. There's no way I could heal that...no way, and there's no way I could survive that.

"Are you blanking out again?" the bald man asks as a chill runs over me, as I realize that if that wasn't a dream I remembered than I must be dead.

"Hey" I say slowly as I swish my tongue around "Where exactly is Rukongai"

"Oh, the soul society, the land of dead souls" the man says slowly "You must've forgotten about your death and...everything else like most of us here"

Even more pain as laughter fills my ears, both of which are stinging. I can see my flesh and skin parting and tearing open before it scars unnaturally quickly. Every wound I've ever taken works its way into my body slowly like a story unraveling.

And I can't remember how I got most of them, I shake my head, groaning in frustration as I just can't remember more than this. Its like someone shoveled out everything I knew and lived.

The man says something, whining and worrying about me for no good reason. So I ignore him and close my eyes, trying to remember anything else.

All I see is a blank canvas, and my body standing there. It slowly begins to move like an old puppet, slowly practicing movements of a style of swordsmanship, My personal style that I taught myself. Grabbing the blade, using my whole body to swing, moves that are suicidal or just plain stupid.

Maybe that's why I got all scarred up, but if I lived through all of it I must've been doing something righty.

"Hey Smokey, are you alright?" the man asks as I straighten my kimono and stand as proudly as I can, tracing my fingers over the two scars on my face "Maybe you should see a doctor or something"

He backs off as I raise my fist up to smack him away, lowering his head and looking away as I glare at him angrily.

"So you don't have anything for me to eat...what a pain" I groan, shaking my head as he frowns looking all guilty even though he hasn't done anything besides annoy me"

"I imagine it is" He says smiling and cheering up instantly, like a ball of sunshine right in my face "Hey maybe you could become one? I mean, if you got to eat you have to be a shinigami right?"

"That doesn't sound like it's right at all" I drawl, rubbing my stomach as I look around for any kind of food, but all I can see is dusty streets and worn down shacks "Well can you at least tell me where I can find a sword, I need one...feel naked without a blade at my hip"

"Well, you could buy one but...we don't have any money and...honestly I think the easiest way would be to see if you could become one of them soul reapers, since they're always caring their swords around" He says smiling even wider "But I don't know much about them, besides that they protect souls and kill hollows"

I pause as I realize he said white mask, and remember the thing that tried to eat me back when I was alive, and...probably succeed now that I think about it. I mean at the very least it killed me didn't it.

"Yeah, they do, they get paid for it depending on the bounty of the hollow" He says happily, smiling and nodding "That's why they have so much more money than us in these slums, ain't fair I say"

"Dammit" I sigh, rubbing my face scars again "Well how do I become one? I better not have to sign up to a local lord or anything"

"Well..." he says closing his eyes "You could just sign up at that Shin'ō Academy, hear they'll let anyone in if they can show a bit of Reiatsu, and if you are hungry you should be able to do that, unless your crazy which I'm not saying you are but"

"Just get to the point, where is this academy of theirs?" I ask leaning closer to him as I stand on my toes

"It's in the Seireitei, where all the nobles and soul reapers live...real fancy place" He sighs, looking a little envious as he starts to drool on his rough, unshaven beard "Wish I lived there...sounds like a wonderful place'

I smirk as I walk out of the lane of houses, if you can even call them that and nod as I see more people dressed in the same ratty looking Kimono as I am. Though a few of them are wearing some a bit more colorful, it all looks like it's rotting.

I smile as I walk down the street, looking at all the familiar sites. Now that I think about it, I think I've been to places like this before, or at least seen people living in squalor like this. It's a lively looking place, there's a lot more people living here than I thought there was when I was talking to baldy back there.

It doesn't seem to odd, even though everyone here is dead like me...but there is one thing missing. No one's cooking anything, I can't smell anything nice being roasted up. No meat, no vegetables, not even rice.

I keep walking as the street slowly grows darker and all the happy folks going about their day vanish, and the thugs and scum of the...afterlife? start to come out and play. I ignore them and keep walking, and they do the same to me, probably because they managed to find some poor man with a hat or an odd shoe to hassle rather than the ruined girl covered in scars. Maybe they're scared of me? Maybe they think I'm one of them, but I don't really want to ask one of them.

I need to get a sword, and well I have a feeling these soul reapers may know something a bit more of how I died...or at the very least get me something to eat...that'd be real nice wouldn't it?

I keep walking even as I get tired and weary, and my stomach yells at me to eat anything, even dirt. My feet ache, but I keep up my pace, a slow and steady one as I try and dredge up more of who I am from my seemingly empty head.

I watch her slowly totter out of the door into the empty, spotless streets. I sigh and frown as I look at the banner blocking me from the exam room, the circle with a cross staring me down as I stand alone in the lobby I think they called it.

qst also tends to be very slow and the general population is kinda small, qm's running quests that already have an established player base don't suffer too much running there, but new quests tend to die quickly. I grab the Zanpakutō still laying on my bed and turn it around in my hand as I grab it's saya and pull it away from the blade. It's plain, like a commonly produced sword, it has no flairs or any kind of style to it. It's hilt is braided black, it's guard is a simply square one with no signs of any kind of design on it. Its blade is also bare of any kind of special sort of markings.

I twirl it around, getting used to its weight which is simply perfect, as I hold its sheath to my side, hooking it into my sash as I try out some of my custom moves with it, spinning it around in my palm and striking with its scabbared like a club, as well as grabbing the blade so I have a better angle for stabbing.

I chuckle and go to sheath it, when aya's ramblings echo through my head.

"Didn't she say I could imprint this with my soul or something...make it unique" I say as I hold the blade up to the light and catch the glint of the sun with it "wasn't paying attention but...that does sound interesting...no idea how I'd do it anyways"

I bring the blade down and frown, focusing on it as intently as I could, trying to...I don't know connect to me or something.

But the blade just feels empty, I don't know how I feel that but...it feels like there's nothing in there right now

I bite my lip as I focus a bit harder, feeling a burning in my wrist s I look up at the blade shining in the sun light. I twist it around, maybe it needs to be a certain way around? no that doesn't work. I huff and shake my head, shaking it around a bit trying to get a reaction out of it so it'll get imprinted on me, whatever that even means.

I growl and put the blade to my left palm, maybe I need to douse it in my blood or something. I start to dip the edge of the blade into my palm, focusing on where it meets my skin as a drop of blood stains it.

And the drop bubbles away into that same smoke I saw coming up from me when I faced down that giant. I watch it coil around the blade, before it engulfs it like a black crowd.

I feel dizzy, whoozy, like I'm one the verge of death again as I grip my blade. It feels like it's drinking something out of me, but I don't know what it is...it just feels...wrong.

I bite my lip as the cloud grows thicker and darker. It wraps around the blade tightly and holds onto it as I stand back up onto my knees, feeling light headed and whoozy.

And then I scream angrily, fighting off the feeling as my room fills with smoke coming from me.

"YOU ARE MINE!" I growl as I struggle to hold the now shaking blade in my hand as it starts to...change"I am not your food, so stop trying to suck me dry already"

It stops and I sigh "Why am I talking to a sword, it's not like there's anything in you yet...right?"

There's no answer, just the smoke clearing away as my head starts to unfog and I don't feel like I'm about to vomit as I start to feel whoozy again.

I rub my forehead with my free hand, coughing as the smokes starts to vanish away in the air, like it simply got sucked up into something. I look back up at my Zanpakutō as I hear a some panicked running outside of my door, and the sounds of some girl throwing up.

I glance over my shoulder and see nothing out of the ordinary, so I shrug and turn back to my blade. And nearly drop it in surprise.

It's grown to the size of a nodachi and lost its guard in the instant I looked away. It's braid has been replaced with a bloody red cloth that hands down it like a tassle. The blade is speckled with weird stains like it's already been washed down with blood multiple times.

Reminds me of the sword I used to have, at least how thick it is with the smell of blood...besides I've always kind of like nodachi's since they have more room for cutting and longer reach than plain katanas.

I twist it around in awe, trying to stop myself from touching it as I hold it up.

"Huh, guess I fed you enough, eh boy?" I say happily as lift up the scabbard to sheath it and find that it has been shattered and pieced back together with red string "Guess this is fate eh? Oh I'm going insane, talking to a sword in hell...hope no one saw me doing that especially aya"

I stop as I put it back into its red sheath as I tilt my head trying to remember how long I've been in here with my Zanpakutō...it has to be have been around thirty minutes right?

Yeah I know, but Kimi heard aya rattle on about Zanpakutōs and Asauchi she assumes they're used interchangeably as she just sees it as a sword and nothing special at the moment.

and I'm doing it because they're more often referred to as Zanpakutōs, so its more familiar.

If you don't know, Just telling you for writing purposes but the nodachi was usually carried by hand since it would take to long to draw it if you carried it via back, Also the Kōden Enshin-ryū style had a special way of drawing it allowing for it to be carried via waist, The technique is to pull out the sheath rather than drawing the blade.

I really want to test this Zanpakutō or Asauchi or whatever its called, but I have a feeling cross road killing is a little more frowned upon here simply because everyone who isn't happy go lucky has a stick up there ass it seems. And I really don't want to set a bad impression with people I'll be fighting with for my afterlife...which does seem like a pretty good reward actually

I sigh and push my thoughts away, focusing on running as I lower myself a bit and put my hand on my new sword to keep it from jiggling and dancing around at my side as I sprint through the plain of well maintained and cut grass, towards the crowds of other students heading towards....somewhere in the academy's grounds.

I smile, maybe a bit madly as I pick up the pace, ignoring the pain in my chest as I keep on running, and running towards the sounds of gossiping and talking.

I stop to take a break as I reach the end of the pack, all of them are wearing the same uniforms I am, though the men and boys are wearing blue instead of red.

I look around and notice there's a balcony along the walls of the academy leading off...somewhere deeper into the Seireitei.

There's an energy in the air, people are excited, waiting, expecting something but...what or who rather are they so riled up over

I heft my Asuachi onto my shoulders, like I used to carry my blade around in life so I could draw it and swing it down in one smooth motion, while still having the sheath as a back up club or to block any strike that I could catch with it.

I flip the blade around as girl and boy stop and stare at me as I twirl it around my fingers...they look like they died a few years before I did. or maybe they were just born here... pretty sure that weird man said that could happen.

"what you lookin at?"I ask calmly as I grab the hilt and point my nodachi at them upside down "Just testing my sword here"

"Uh" the boy says as he runs his hand through his black hair "How long have you had that four"

"About thirty minutes" I say as he bites his lip and the girl whines, chewing on her nails as I grin happily as I hear aya again

"So when do you think we'll imprint our Asuachi's!" She asks a big, boar looking man excitedly as he clearly struggles to not hit her "do you think they'll let us on mission? what about the training, huh do you know anything about the eh?"

"come on little bird" I say bluntly as I grab her by her shirt right as the man glares back down at her "you're straying to close to the tiger"

"Oh I was just asking him a few questions" She huffs, crossing her arms before her eyes go wide "uh...Kimi chan?"

"Yes Aya?" I ask boredly as I sit down and stab my nodachi between my legs, and lean against us.

"How'd you get that?" She asks, smiling happily as she reaches out to touch its bare blade "I mean we only got these just now"

"Oh I did what you said and imprinted my soul onto it" I say with a sneer as I rub my thumb where it's guard is supposed to be "it's pretty easy actually...also you might not wanna touch it, this boy seems rather bloodthirsty"

Aya makes a weird noise, but she's still smiling so she couldn't have cut herself....unless she's type of idiot who grins when they get smacked in the face.

I look up to see where it's coming from and see a row of soul reapers standing next to an old wither man with a long beard and scarred face standing on the balcony. Behind him is standing a man with sharp features, almost silver grey hair and a thin mustach on his tanned face.

The old man is either dead or asleep, and after a minute of silence it turns out to be the latter as he jolts awake and smiles meekly as he slowly shuffles over the edge of the balcony.

His eyes open and I feel like I just had a mountain dropped on me for a moment. I catch my breath, and see aya laying against me. She looks a little more dazed than I am, and it takes her awhile to get back up, without drooling on me

I look back at the old timer as she apologizes furiously, prostrating herself before me as the old man chuckles.

"You are the new generation of shinigami"He says in a commanding voice, his eyes growing stern as he looks down at us "erase any fantasies of glory or fame you hold, your duty from now on is to protect the soul society with your very life, slay hollows and guide souls safely here. By joining this academy, you give yourself bravely to dangers, becoming one of the many hands holding the sword of justice and law aloft in the air, even if you will be cut down"

He pauses and waits for a few mummers in the crowds..I look at aya, expecting to see her crying, but she looks like she just got front seats to a once in a life time play.

"Do not seek beauty in battle. Do not seek virtue in death. Do not make the mistake of considering only your own life. If you wish to protect that which you must protect......slice the enemy you must defeat from behind" He says like he's repeating a mantra "that is our way, as I'm sure your teachers have taught you already, but I shall be honest with you, many of you will die, be it from your own folly, the mistakes of others, or simple misfortune, death does not make an exception for us shinigami,

I shake my head and sheath it before she cuts herself, don't want to get her hurt for no reason.

"So who was that anyways?" I ask as I stand up and suddenly feel a hundred eyes on me "Uh...what all of you looking at?"

"ARE YOU SERIOUS!" A boy with hair covering his eye hisses "that was Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto, the captain commander of gotei 13, the founder of this academy and the shinigami, how do you not know who he...wait why is your Asauchi already changed"

"Because she's the numbah 1 shinigami in training" Aya says, leaping onto my back before I shift and send her back to the ground.

I look down as I realize I'm getting some attention I don't want, as more people gather around, gossiping and chattering about my blade

I look back at them as they stand their, looking either offended or sorry that I probably look like I'm half dead from lack of sleep and food...which comes before lessons I think in order of importance. Can't learn on an empty stomach can I.

"Sorry if I'm being rude, but really I'm only awake enough to listen to or fight things" I yawn "So I'm going to go take a nap and hope I don't miss anything to important"

"Hey, come on its our first day kimi chan, don't you wanna have fun and see what its like here" Aya asks, pocking my side as she follows "You might make another friend or get into a fight, doesn't that sound better than sleeping in and doing nothing at all"

"No, I'm tired as hell" I say weakly "I'll go to classes with you when I wake up"

"it took you two days to wake up last time" Aya groans shaking her head "For all I know I won't see you till I graduate"

"I'm not a bear" I say sternly, grinding my fist into her forehead "I don't hibernate"

"I know, I'm just worried you're not healthy yet" She says sadly, holding her hands behind her back "I mean I did meet you right before you passed out for two days"

"and I've only eaten one meal in an entire week" I say smacking my stomach "if it puts you at ease I'll make up for lost time and eat everything I can when I wake up"

"Oh that would...I don't have to pay for it right kimi?" She asks meekly, before she grins widely "I mean would, just...don't want to spend all my money keeping you fed"

"Eh, I'll see how the food here tastes, but...good luck with your classes" I say waving her away as I slowly step into the dormitory
