Some kind of courier guild would be cool to have.

Guild Jakka: A courier guild operating near the outskirts of the City. Famed for their safe deliveries, although overdues are kind of common due to the dangers of the outskirts. Still, if you want something arrive in one piece without harm, try Guild Jakka.

Guild Carentz: Their courier network is the most extensive of other Inner City guilds, but they specialize in one thing and one thing only: information delivery. Want a message delivered safely without snoops? Here, whisper to our mini-freak agent, whose brain we augment. After the message is delivered we scrub its mind clean with amnesiac drugs, and if that still leaves residues we replace its brain completely.

Guild Rathak: This guild is known for its speed, the fastest of the Coastal Warrens. As such they're only good in delivering small cargoes or people around. But their delivery teams will make sure it gets delivered, pronto, by leaping, maneuvering, running, and passing the cargo back and forth between the Cityscape.

I like the idea of baryx nobility being closest to human form, but I would like to see one jarring thing be off that highlights like everyone else, they just dont do humanity right. Though you seem to be edging towards it.

One other thing to consider with Baryx is their focus on perfection of form. That would also lend itself well towards Austarity of perfection. Minimal ornimentation, and features, etc, with most of their stature and nobility coming from the whole form. Your background sketches catch that look well.

Ideas for a unifiying look;
-Nasal holes on their ribs for breathing, but no real nose, maybe a bump.
-digigrade toes/ ankles, or even better, the feet are just larger hands that are every bit as dexterous as the primary hands.

other thought:
VatMothers subtype, "envoys". VatMothers who are semi permanent residents with a given house or guild, operating as advisors and a point of contact with the cult. Over time the given mothers may adopt the trappings of that house to better blend in, and facilitate interaction. Aimed favorably towards the dealings of the mothers, of course.

tl/dr: Baryx inspired mother?
>>
>>52102966
Vatmother cult envoys to Noble houses and guilds is pretty good idea.
>>
>>52102966
Yeah since the vatmothers are the closest thing to a unifying force in the city I'd think they wouldn't be as distinct of a group as the others.
>>
>>52102966
The idea of the envoys sounds pretty cool, but houses have something similar for others houses? Effectively ambassadors to these other houses

The new design simply isn't better. It has more to do with lust than pride. As long as it has strong, bold lines you're good. These overlithe fuccbois simply don't fit the bill. Apply the lithe aesthetics to the females and make the males more in line with pic related. Bam, best of both worlds

I like both art styles, though I'd still like to see an inhuman aspect to Baryx, perhaps their individual abs/ pecks are a sort of floating bone, or their bodies just have harder more angular lines here and there

>suddenly everyone has robbie rotten faces, and house baryx is number one.
>>
>>52107295
I think that Baryx should run the gambit from hulking white Phyrexians and Destiny Hive Knights to picture perfect statuesque people, both males and females. Form is defined by function, beautiful and terrible though it is. A female Templar is going to look more or less like a male Templar, huge chitinous plates and powerful carmine flesh. While Inquisitors and statesmen would look statuesque and civil
>>
>>52105623
Well, pride is a case by case thing. Some people are proud of the fact that they are extremely strong, others are proud that they can beat the shit out of their foes with pure skill as opposed to with muscles the size of France.

Personally I feel like both pictures are good, but >>52099772 feels a little too inhuman. Not for the setting, but if Baryx is proud of the fact that it doesn't deviate massively from the original form of the City's inhabitants (who were probably human) then it should be a little more human, but not necessarily a huge amount.

So perhaps that is what needs to be embodied, a combination of humanity and individuality, with every member of House Baryx having a different look

The final aesthetic of Baryx, sure.

But given the fact that I drew both the colored digital drawing, and the pencil sketches, I can safely say that the pencil sketches are more up to date with the current vision I have of Baryx aesthetics.

>>52099772 is too close to white New Phyrexia.
>>52099269 and >>52102369 are too close to 40K's Eldar.

You're right in that what's needed to complete the Baryx is an inhuman, complicated and very bizarre-looking head. And that's something that's difficult to do without copying from another source.

Try to stick with that imagery. Human-looking bodies with very, very inhuman heads. The crests were getting there, but were too close to New Phyrexia. The Eldar-looking heads, on the other hand, look a little too human.

>>52108618
Sure.
It is mostly my failure as an artist to emulate the ideal bodyshape I have envisioned for Baryx (picture related) in my sketches.

I wouldn't do some crude heavy bone armor plating though, as I find the idea of their skin simply being armor in itself far creepier.

>>52108675

Them looking like Human faces is entirely intentional though. I sought for them to have these unmoving, sculpted face masks.

>>
>>52099772
I really like these ones. I think that Baryx should be humanish, striving towards a long forgotten ideal, and the strong abbs and tall, noble features capture this I feel. Broud shoulders, narrow waists.

However as it is Gigerverse I think the should still be inhuman looking. Maybe its that they havent been coloured yet, but the sketches whilst loking nice seem very human and attractive. They remind me a lot of 40k Eldar rather than a caste of mutants aping humanity.

It is getting pretty late here, so I will continue working on it tomorrow.
This is the "general" physique I sorta imagine for the baryx. Strong, almost akin to sculpted musculature.

Dunno how much my input matters but I am the anon that recommended smooth crowns, sexy legs and all. Haven't caught up on the threads but I think this is a fantastic baseline for Baryx. The faces could easily be just war masks or completely an outcrop of thier own skulls, thus further needing to wear a mask for individuality. I think these are really great templates for the knights, the higher you go up the food chain, the more refined or expanded upon certain phenotypes will become. Its like the Dynasty Warriors games, your larger than life heroes are the Baryx knights and your serfs use the "same" equipment but are obviously unable to use it to the same degree.

I feel like Errants are your baseline, but in this depiction its a little too tall for your bottom rung knight. Going back to my DW analogy, your most basic knights should be somewhere btween human haed and Protector elbow. This helps reinforce the Baryx standing with the serfs, its not a giant fighting but a Big Guy that happens to be from a certain family. Bonds through battle will form and it secures loyalty and also fame. Enough victories or a swplendid enough battle ensures Lordship, regardless of land attached to the title. With title comes biogel rewards and responsibilities. So a Lord needs to increase his ability to hold and use Biogel, and to also survive assassinations and upgrades. The Lesser Lords are Knights that have attained land, even if its an acre at most, but they must still strive to be better. This leaves a very broad definition of bigger and better. It also helps define martial prowess and political ability, both are very much required.

To those who complain it looks too phyrexian, the house itself stemmed from the same roots. Phyrexia is Wizards visual take on Gieger, We dipped heavily into that color palette and back to the source, so ending up as not!phyrexians should be taken in stride.

While a lot of his art is populated with those Aeon Flux-type bodies there's also plenty who look physically useless, and would be a great bio-horror addition to just have atrophied, breathing things filtering the air and all that.

Gender is pretty pointless in the first iteration of the setting. Freaks were born from the "walls" of the city, and did not reproduce, but could hire the vatmothers to create elaborate creations that were perfected forms of freaks. At least an interpretation of that idea anyway.

Round two of the lore, freaks can reproduce, but its ugly and doesn't always work right, so vat mothers ensure that the progeny is as viable as there is money to pay them.

What you are looking for, the cheesecake, the breasts and the puss, to be so very blunt, would not really be so appealing. There might be teeth.

>>52119938
Everyone's a freak baby. Its part of the grit, and weirdness of the setting, that spark of insanity ala mad max. Everyone is a little nuts, just depends on how bad it is. This is a setting where flesh can be cultivated, and grafted on at some degree of will. Where people dont even know what a human really looked like in the past, but have a vague idea of what that glory of perfection was.

There you go. Female in the middle. Dem hips, dem big soulful eyes. Doin anything for ya yet? FQ is not really short for Fap Quest, but well, /TG/ has some /d/ history, so dont let anything stop you.

old shit art from an old shit side quest, already linked in a prior thread. But see that face? It is just cultured flesh, tacked onto something that might not be so palatable. Freaks are at least somewhat honest in their appearance. The poor or at least unwealthy tend to wear who they are. Meanwhile the elite can afford to drape themselves in temporary or semi permanent trappings that parody human form, meanwhile their behavior often more than makes up for a lack of monstrous appearance with a total lack of human nature, behaving more like intelligent, speaking, thinking predators.

an idea for another one of agents of The Nameless

>Red-Cap
>all armies require weapons/armour and it is the job of the Red-Caps to "Procure" much of this equipment (that which is not worth purchasing anyhow)
>They often skulk near fresh battlefields, looting the dead for anything that might be useful, from arms, to armour, to augs and sometimes even the very blood of the dead.
> For this last purpose, their bodies are equipped with a long proboscis-like needle connected to a series of sacks on their back.
>They fill these sacks with useful blood and then return it to their cell (it is for these sanguine sacks that they are named "Red-Caps").

I'm still shilling the idea that at least some elements of their designs should be inspired by the worst nightmare-tier plastic surgery gone wrong.
The sort of people who lose sight of norms of beauty and develop a self-feeding obsession. Women who keep getting breast implants until they're veiny unhealthy looking beachballs, people who diet and puke and get fat sucked out till they're spooky skellingtons, who pump their lips so much it looks like some racist caricature, who get bone chiseled away and replaced with riveted metal and plastic so they can look like max headroom. You could also probably throw in some of the freakish proportions and faces you see in shitty porn and hentai as increasing modification makes silly things possible.

Like just imagine someone trying to construct an "ideal" beautiful human from second or third or whatever hand descriptions or myths but with no actual experience or frame of reference, "big full lips, long slender fingers and long shaped nails, hourglass thin waist, chiselled angular features, long flowing hair, wide bright eyes, full fluttering eyelashes and neat shaped eyebrows, big bright smiles full of shining white perfect teeth, long slender necks". Just think about the potential implications of all of those phrases and more but without everything you know about what they actually refer to in the context of human society.

If you do go with a more flat perfect marble-statue look I still recommend looking to the modern day for inspiration by the way of makeup. Vestigial noses and lips and such basically painted on to the smooth canvas in their best guess at "beauty" that might look more like an acid-trip fueled art piece than an actual human face.

a while ago I did a freak progression from average freak to vat mother to highlight how "reshaped" a freak can be.

Top left is a freak who is viable in society, likely birthed into this world with vat mother assistance, but only as a barely viable individual. Tiny ear holes, and a melon for echolocation instead of sight. Deformed everything, barely intelligible when speaking. A common low class freak. They are very broken, but still just functional enough.

Each fork represents what a faction may do to said freak as far as surgery or augmentation to make them fit their use.

Chot uses crude and fast acting genetic tonics, as well as grown muscle to quickly break bone, and reinforce the maw of the unfortunate freak. This individual has likely gone mad from the process and the pain, as well as the new and eternal gnawing hunger. Barely more than an animal.

a slightly improved freak may try to escape the hardship of life in the brothers and drugs, and fall into the debt of Viam. Sensory is improved and then improved again...and again...and again. Each touch, even injury is like someone toying with a person after a fresh orgasm. Again, sanity is likely gone now, and obedience to their handler is assured. Handlers cut and shape their subjects at whim and to their amusal (go ahead, search that word).

Some freaks just get motivated, improve themselves, seek work, bury themselves in the job and get calloused towards life, their body begins to reflect the utilitarian nature of that life.

Baryx would offer a simple aesthetic flesh mask of calloused skin if they found a freak worthy who sought perfection of form. enough in form of being a vassal, or serf, so as to take pity on them for their imperfection, and hide their disgusting form from sight.

Lienis may kidnap a suitable subject for industrial use, or even as a connection to this setting's version of the "internet". The internet is horrific, and its wise to use a sacrificial subject between you and it.

>>
>But the question is...how the hell all of these have sex in the first place?

Depends on the individuals in question.
Some are truly incompatible physically with one another, while others make things work with what they have.

The Vatmother cult does far more than keep tabs on the offspring of the city's denizens. They actively facilitate the reproduction of the freaks providing all sorts of reproductive services, most prominently the vats themselves, into which an embryo taken from the womb of a freak can be deposited, and safely grown.

the city is alive, and so is the internet. At its perifery, freaks that have the appropriate augmentations, or brutal surgery, can take a neural strand and interface with one of the various options available. Rare things like an actual terminal, a splice into a city nerve bundle, etc.

Here is where it gets fucked up, you can die from the network, its organic, and its not just you, its everyone, and everything, and the city. There is knowledge hidden there, but there is also insanity there. Corrupted knowledge, lies, echoes of freaks that died, etc, etc, etc. The value of the truly ancient knowledge though, even just a small sliver, has potential enough to send countless freaks to their death at the behest of the noble houses, guilds, and even bold individuals.

The best way to protect yourself is to use a slave node, which is another freak. Nueral tendrils would be used on that freak, and then the node would be connected to the internet, and whatever suffering happens, happens first to the node. So if the node dies, well, usually the guy behind him doesn't.

Body is limp while online, and vulnerable. Many freaks whore themselves out as nodes, and in viam territory that unconscious node tends to pull double duty. Its a brutal world.

A node who is with a freak who finds something valuable would also know of it, so they are frequently killed and are highly expendable, not that the nodes would know that.

the mindscape of the internet is up to interpretation from the OP of the setting. I am just regurgitating some stuff we talked about a while ago.

and a bump for fun. Freaks take many shapes and sizes. The line between human and animal is so heavily blurred that "cannabalism" is not uncommon. If they are smaller than you, dumber than you, and weaker than you, some freaks will eat a smaller unfit member of society in a fashion no different than some people would eat a monkey or ape.

Vault mother "vat". This one is a lot different than others in that it is really a knock off of a true vat, made by a minor guild attempting to make a name for themselves.
>>
>>52139220
How do guilds make a name for themselves? Game of Thrones style political shenanigans? Inventions? Just being generally dependable and trustworthy?
>>
>>52140118
There are all kinds of guilds, ranging from artisans to traders and transport focused guilds.

Basically, a guild is the closest thing to a corporation within the city. They generally form the industrial base of the city, and provide various services to it's denizens.

The guilds gain name for themselves by various ways, both political shenanigans as well as economic success. Generally, the guilds maneuver themselves into alliances with the Noble houses, whereas the Houses tend to treat the guilds as pawns in their schemes.

expanding on that, the only real constant powers are the 7 houses, and the vat mothers. Guilds can get quite old, but they have come and gone. Not to say there are not ancient guilds, but none have the power to come close to rivaling a house as far as we know.

In general, a guild can be a tiny operation of a few individuals trying to make it, or a massive sprawling conglomerate that can have immense political, military, and economic power.

The same could be said of gangs, but due to their disruptive and often parasitic nature, they will either get crushed by another gang, grow large enough to conquer a territory and usurp the local government, splinter, or go "legit" and moonlight as mercenaries to the guilds, houses, or even other gangs.

A good example is Ultros. Ultros has made a gang so large and powerful that he has a vision for "the people" maybe everyone under him does not share it, but things are in motion.

its all biotech, how it works doesn't need to be defined due to the somewhat eldritch setting of the nature, but TL/DR: super science that is not understood and treated as esoteric lore/ ritual/ magic by the masses. Everything is humid, moist/ damp, warm, and often squishy. Or calloused, etc. The city itself, the setting of the setting, is quite alive and people are traipsing about its biology.

thanks man. When I did side story, my take on the city is that each region covers different biological activities. The city climbs high, goes low, and then lower still. Side story was deliberately removed from the main setting to avoid any contamination of the main FQ story and lore going on, using minor powers that were not really note worthy, but still alluded to the setting well enough.

The setting took place in the warrens and "Guts" of the city, hence a lot of the "maw"/ guts theme motif, and allowed it to be a bit grittier/ ugly.

What exactly is the stuff that the guilds make?
Doesn't seem like anyone needs much beyond biogel augs and food.
>>
>>52158709
Flesh crafting into various resources. Bone harvesting from the city, etc.

The guilds extract resources from the city, and very often freaks. The resources being biological components. Those are in turn shaped with tools, surgery, and biogel. Biogel is more of a glue in that situation than something that makes augs from a pile of goo.

a lot of items are/ were freaks living in varying degrees of nightmarish existence. An artisan may find it funny to leave a freak's brain fully intact.
>>
>>52158895
Speaking of augs, are some freaks turned into living aug factories? Like we know some freaks are used singularly for food production, but could freaks of a similar vein be used to produce multiple copies of a single type of aug that could then be harvested?

Ranges widely.
Some guilds don't exactly even make anything, and instead provide some other service, like transportation or even mercenary protection.

Generally speaking, most items and devices found within the city are made by guilds, with the Noble houses only generally manoufacturing the most advanced stuff and jealously guarding the secrets of how to make them, while the Guilds make your general day to day appliances, processes food stuffs, tools, clothes and so on.

What are the clothes made from?
>>
>>52160339
Depends on the type of augment. Fully "natural" ones, like organs or limbs could be produced that way, but more "artificial" ones, that are actually chimera constructs made from numerous different organic components, would need to be assembled individually.

Generally speaking, more complex augments are chimera constructs, while simpler ones are "natural".

>>52164159
Leather, silk, fur coats, fibers woven into something akin to cloth, etc.

Of course, there are stranger types of clothes as well, ranging from living symbiotic creatures that function as both clothing as well as weaponry and armor, to fully integrated ornamental structures one has adorned oneself in.
These stranger clothes are mostly used just by the wealthy and affluent though.

On the noble houses and their weapons.

There exists a wide range of weaponry within the city, from primitive bows and spears made from bone and sinew, to advanced bioguns that seem almost eldritch in their power.

Weapons we would recognize as guns, are fairly common within the city, and the noble Houses arm their forces with such weaponry, though each house tends to posses their own types of guns.

House Lienis utilizes two main types of ranged weaponry. Shard Guns and Pod Guns. Shard Riffles propel hard crystallized shards or ammo fluid at high speeds, and are known of their rapid rate of fire, and general reliability.
Pod Gun are weapons that utilize interchangeable ammo pods that contain various different types of ammunition, which allow the same gun a great degree of versatility. These are especially favored among Lienis special forces, as well as the underworld of the city.

House Baryx milita forces that are composed of regular freaks, generally just use a singular weapon type, the Bolt Gun, which launches ferrous bone bolts at extreme velocities via magnetic propulsion. There are various variants of the Bolt Guns, but the working principles behind all of them are the same. Bolt Guns are among the best weapons found within the city, but even they pale in comparison to the borderline arcane weapons wielded by the Baryx Nobility, which range from the dreaded Seeker Launchers, that fire homing flesh rending flechettes, Thunder Rods that emit arcs of electric fury, and Staffs of Light, which project searing beams of light that can reduce a freak to pile of cooked flesh in moments.

House Viam favors venom as their main weaponry, and the guns they use to inflict their poisons into their foes, are the Stingers, which launch clouds of venomous hairs, Needlers which fire hardened venom spikes, and toxic gasses. In addition, they use Slime guns which coat their foes in viscous fluid that rapidly hardens and binds the victim.
>>
>>52172942

House Chot uses few ranged weapons, but the ones they use are gruesome and brutal. The Fang guns, as their name implies, fire massive fangs at high speed, that tear flesh and mash armor. The Maggot guns fire living, flesh eating maggots that will bore into the flesh of the victim and eat them alive, while the Bile guns fire thick, acidic bile that ensnares the foe, and makes them ripe prey for the Chot warriors.

House Rai-Khil's raiders utilize Spine Guns and Impalers, the former firing a rapid stream of acid coated quill like spines, while the later fires large bone spikes that can impale the victim in one clear shot. In addition, Rai-Khil makes heavy use of very potent acids, which they, at least according to rumors, harvest somewhere from the depths of the city.

House Zhdun's golems are rather inaccurate due to their limited intelligence and slow reaction times, which is why the ones which posses ranged weapons wield guns that do great degree of splash damage, in the form of launching clusters of spines, to just raw explosives, while the bigger constructs are equipped with self guiding weapons that often are smaller golems in themselves, that possess only a single guiding thought, seek and destroy.

Finally, the Nameless house, tends to mostly rely on mercenaries which possess a wide range of lower tier weaponry found within the city, while their own special operatives are armed with experimental weapons based on stolen technology of the other houses, often combined into new, potent tools of death.
>>
>>52168808
>>52167970
>>52168870
Silk production. That dude's a weaver.
>>
>>52172959
The Nameless house also tends to utilize some weapons of the other houses, as a method of obscuring their own operations and implicating other houses for their deeds.

The weapons found in the hands of the mercenaries of the city, range from stolen weapons of the noble houses, to simpler guild produced weapons like spike launchers, acid spitters and so on.
>>
I'm not sure if this is explained everywhere, but.

If cities are living, what does the biomass of the actual city itself feed on?
>>
>>52173167
It filters out nutrients from the red sea.
>>
>>52173144
Also, weapons of some houses, namely Viam and Lienis, are readily found in the underworld of the city, due to either their close connection with such affairs, or due to the sheer availability of such weapons.
It is not uncommon for a street thug to be carrying a stinger or a pod pistol around.

What do the other houses mounts look like?

Having mounts is not an universal trait among the Houses.
Both Baryx and Rai-Khil utilize them, but the types of mounts are vastly different. Baryx Striders etc are genetically engineered and crafted beings that lack many of the functions of actual living beings, while Rai-Khil ride atop tamed and bred beasts.

House Lienis does not have mounts, but they possess bio constructs they use to fill such roles.

Sorry anon. I discussed Baryx with OP a long, long time ago. There was a brief iteration of Baryx that was a hulking mass of muscle, but statuesque, with exposed bone plates and white flesh with somewhat featureless faces. The culture was semi necromongerish. Now those traits have been split into a more refined vision of what OP wanted, Baryx is pride, not nessesarily warrior spirit. The warriors were stripped of all pride and nobility, which became the Wrath house.

If you ask him, he might still have some of the older sketches/ art. Big thing to consider is just because you dont like a house, doesnt mean you need to change it, there is room for everyone in this freakshow. The hulking warriors you seek can exist, probably even better as a shadowy mercenary organization.

A longer time ago there was musings on the houses, and if sub houses would or would not exist, with the idea that a subhouse would embody the sins less perfectly or more open to interpretation with other elements or sins thrown in. That got scrapped, but again, the influence can be there in guilds, mercenary bands, or gangs. Style and appearance is a big thing in this universe. Not necessarily fashion, but image brand, either as a faction or an individual.

You know how Greek artists made up muscles and bones to create a more visually pleasing body for their statues?

Take that idea, and mix it with modern body builders along with the kind of typical American dream Space Marine wish-fulfilment fantasy bodytype.

Tiny fucking head. Literally tiny. A neck that's almost completely swallowed up by muscles. A chest like a tank with bulging arms. Tapers down to a relatively skinnyass wasp waist that carries two tree trunk legs.

A collection of muscle and boney spines cover the body, creating a humanoid look yet alien.

With your old art on Baryx, and the new direction you are taking it, will that particular style be of use somewhere else (guild, gang, mercenary, well off individual, etc), or be something that a freak could take the shape of, or is that a style you do not want in your setting?
