I had a game like this.

The party was sent out after reports of demons decimating villages in Eastern Poland.

A tired and grizzled knight who was on the run after his Lord caught him in the act of courtly love with his wife. He was from Normandy.

Another player was his squire, who was still young and fairly new to the world.

A Hospitaller who had returned from the Holy Land.

A Frenchman who was too devout for his own good.

A dandy German Prince who fancied himself as the Swan Knight

And Benedictine Monk named Louis.

Later they picked up a Polish Knight, a Teutonic Knight, and a Lithuanian.

Most of the group got by through broken French or Latin, and there was plenty of shit-talking. The GM encouraged players to come up with crazy histories for weapons: The German Prince was running around with what he claimed was Siegfried's, the Hospitaller's Sword was the one used to behead John the Baptist and was possessed by a demon, and our the Pole in our party showed up with the Sword of St. Peter.

Every personality in the party clashed and half the RP was the characters bickering and trying to one-up each other as the better knight. Plus there were drunken fights with locals and all sorts of shenanigans, until the monk revealed himself as Lucifer and he was using us to spread mistrust and act as a vanguard for his armies.

The finale was everyone but the squire dying in a glorious charge against a demonic horde, which may or may not have been Mongols. Shit was great.
