Mysterious and wild, with a certain low cunning. Not schemers, but maybe pawns in a villain's plans. Really, I teeter between sapient or no, and currently I'm more on the beast side than man. Pic not related, but it's a nice historical image.

I have a question of my own for this thread - do you like your werewolves to be bipedal or on all fours, essentially just large supernatural wolves? I usually go for the two-legged variety, like Lupin in the 3rd Harry Potter film.

With mine it depends how you contracted the curse, if you got it via a bit you will be a more bi-pedal werewolf, while if you are born into the curse it will be quadrupedal. Neither method effects how much control you have in the form though.

Have one of those retractable ladders into the basement. Put an extendable hook in a wall safe for when you're back to normal. Simple.

You wait out the transformation in the crawlspace/basement with no way for you to get out without accessing the safe.

Sure, it makes you look like you have a rape dungeon, but you're a werewolf. By that time you're probably not really concerned what other people think of you.

It was player's idea in an ongoing campaign. I just greenlighted it and went on with it my way. That depends on whether he met her in wolf form or not. Unless of course she went wolf form, dragged him back to her place, and then had her way with him.

Being a werewolf. I likely wasn't clear enough in my post. A sociopath might enjoy it for the freedom and power, the thrill of the hunt, etc. A strong willed person might enjoy it for similar reasons, but would likely find ways to control the instinct and just enjoy the wildness of it.

That all assumes that its possible to keep a degree of agency and sapience when you transform, and that the transformation itself isn't so horrible that it cancels out the potential for enjoyment.
>>
>>55674922
>>55675031
Ginger Snaps was good, although the 1st and 3rd were the best. I'm not sure just what they were trying to do with the 2nd one.
>>
>>55675034
>Beyond that I am alwasy torn between how much control the human side has over things and whether or not they transform only on the full moon.
I like the idea that the older a werewolf is or the longer its been a werewolf the more control it has over transformations and reasoning. That way you can get the whole crafty old wolf and still have your hot blooded killers, too.
>>
>>55675031
If it helps you, then I'm a Pole, I saw the entire trilogy years ago and not counting the shit-tier translation of the title (making it "Photos of Ginger", thus making no sense with sequel and prequel, but that's just a norm of Polish translations of titles) it was really fucking good. I've only later learned it was some sort of small budget independent affair and not just regular movie series.

tl;dr the movies had enough impact to reach another side of the globe. And Poland isn't exactly a friendly market for independent stuff, as everyone pirates. Hell, I saw the 3rd movie only because I've pirated it.
>>
>>55675209
I can agree with this compromise honestly. Though I've also enjoyed the idea of those with strong wills can control the beast while those of weaker wills are left to become relentless killers and destroyers.
>>
>>55675188
Not counting the final scene, 2nd movie was great. If it would just end with Brigitte getting trapped in the basement, it would be spot on. The final scene completely undermined the twist by overstretching it.

Yeah, being kept against your will in a hospital is bad enough, but when there's really a werewolf out to get you and no one will believe you because it's a mental hospital, well I just love the premise and setting, the whole movie feels hopeless to the main character . I doubt I'll find a trilogy I genuinely enjoy more than Ginger Snaps.

My werewolves are men biten or cursed with lycanthropy. They turn into a wolf at sunset and become a hideous man-wolf creature when the full moon rises. At this point they need to either kill a virgin and eat their heart or mate with another werewolf of the opposite sex or they will revert to a wolf after the moon sets and before dawn. They will stay a wolf forever if theye fail either task. Female werewolves bacome pregnate with their first mating and give birth in about 4.5 months and always born in animal wolf form at night.

Born werewolves are considered cursed but can revert to a wolf form anytime except new moons, and only the abomination form on full moons where they lose control of themselves and must follow the same rules as other werewolves or forever be a wolf. However, born cursed can eat the heart of animal virgins so it's easier for them than the born human werewolf.

Purebreeds=Werewolves you were born werewolves. They have 3 forms(wolf form, humanoid and beast)in humanoid they take the form of humans but still have the wolf ears and tail.

halfbreeds=People who have been bitten by purebreeds or somehow ingested their blood Halfbreeds have a normal looking humanoid form, the only difference they have is that that they have longer canine teeth than normal. They can turn into their beast form but unlike purebreeds they cant maintain it forever and must constantly seek out prey when in the form

As cursed and negative as possible.
There is no way to have self control when you transform no matter how hard you try. You also remember everything you did in beast form and worst of all, you remember enjoying rip'n'tearing your victims, in your werewolf form you become a nasty and vicious creature.
Silver is the weakness, but there are no cure at all, except death.
The transformation is also extremly painful, you feel your members and bones expanding themselfs, your skin is tore apart, leaving gruesome bit of a sort of "fleshsuit"
Appearance wise, I just go with a bipedal wolfman, but there are some variation like a wolfman without extra hair or with a head more similar to a man (though absolutly disgusting) than a wolf

And of course only during fullmoon
>>
>>55671882
There are multiple variations from differing sources, but they're otherwise rare as fuck. Most are wild animals, some can control their transformations, some can't. Some have highly specific weaknesses. One variety is immune to the ravages of time and is effectively immortal except for blessed silver penetrating their heart.

>I still don't get what the bitch's plan was beyond fucking with her food.
Getting out. She flat outs points this out.
There are two different things to consider here:
>Megan's story
Most likely version was being stuck with the rest of the pack from all that stayed in the movie. She was either part of the family, or REALLY unlucky when it comes to her "behaviouristic studies", thus ending up as a werewolf by not getting mauled to death. Doesn't really matter, because the important bit is being stuck in that area and wanting to get out. Apparently that's not an option without the rest of the "pack" going after her. So naturally her role was getting rid of the pack, one way or another.

>Marshal's commentary
Going by extensive commentary on Blu-ray, Megan wasn't part of the original script. At all. She was pushed in by producers, while Marshal openly hated the idea of having her at all, doesn't matter what role in the story she would play. He still did it as much as possible his way, since the original Ryan-Megan-military high-ops subplot (script-wise) is the MAIN story, and the things you see in the finished movie were SIDE story to large military conspiracy. Marshal managed to push as much as he could (being independent director with really weird funding sources, including fucking spinach industrial farming conglomerate), so in the final movie Megan's role is gutted to the bare minimum and Ryan is reduced to extra.

Considering the entire movie cost 2.3 million pounds, was done using (now defunct) Luxemburg tax cuts and takes place almost entirely in the "house" set (aka inside building, shot on a sound stage), while the outside of the house is just two walls (pic related), there really wasn't nothing much else to spend the money on than the costumes.
Then again, I saw once a guy wearing an almost identical suit on a convention. Not a furfag, actual DS cosplayer. He didn't say a single word when nagged how he made the costume.

I like it being a curse, for the most part. It's a blood curse that makes you lose your humanity and you succumb to a lesser bestial state, but one that is an incredible danger to everyone around you since it's supernatural in origin. So you lose what makes you human (form and higher intellect) and turn into a 7-foot brick shithouse capable of ripping open cars like using a chainsaw to open a can of tuna.

Werewolves have stayed for the most part untouched in this regard, but a lot still keep some form of intellect. Where does the "curse" part come in if you keep your human form but can switch to a smart AND retardstrong beastman? It has to be 99% a bad news moment if you get infected, like a death sentence.

About mid 00s edgy design, the type marketed from kids who were too metal for being emo but not bright enough to stop being edgy.
You know, the whole mid 00s werewolf and wolf craze and one of the reasons furfaggotry had a serious spike of popularity back then.

Standard really but when werewolves get to an advanced age their body undergoes a final change, mutating into a permanent form that can either be incredibly monstrous, beneficial or both.
For example when mother sent little red out to deliver meat to grandma she found out the reason why grandma lives so deep in the woods.
>>
>>55687036
The difference is that death metal artists are really concerned with people thinking they're hardcore.

Well more stereotypical "Bestial impulses", if they actually behaved like a predator would they'd be far more skittish and less aggressive unless cornered/threatened
So I mean stuff like how predators are often portrayed in fiction, bursts of rage/aggression, desire for raw meat/thrill of the hunt, pelvis shattering sex, running wild through nature, establishing dominance, possibly eating people, stuff like that

>Norsca have werewolves in Total War?? since when??
Since the 90s when they had that Dogs of War regiment of renown with their werebear captain. Then a few years ago with 8th edition whfb saw the skin wolves introduced from FW, the table top models are more gangly than the ones in TW:W though.

Lycanthropy in general is a "kinda-sorta" deal in warhammer, it's there in the older background, kinda-sorta, but largely ignored or was not developed past its brief mentions. And now that Warhammer Fantasy is dead outside of video game licensing it doesn't matter.

On topic; I like 'em classic, people cursed to turn into bestial monsters by the light of the full moon. And that's mostly because I can never come up with something cool and imaginative when I try and make up army fluff and world settings.

>>
I like them this way :

You are prey to us. It is all you will ever be. Your cities, your technology, your numbers cannot save you. In the dark of night, in the places you fear to tread we live, we wait, and we plan.

We were here first. We preyed upon your ancestors and their ancestors before them and we prey upon you at our will. You are civilized because of us. You began living in groups to try and defend yourselves, seeking safety in numbers. You made weapons and tools because your hands and teeth were not enough to save your lives. You tamed wild wolves, and domesticated them as dogs to join your defense. You developed agriculture so you wouldn't have to wander into strange lands. You made cities to fortify yourselves inside walls and houses.

And still it is not enough. Though you breed like rabbits, we will kill you at will again. The time is coming when your numbers will be thinned and you will know the fear you've tried to forget. You will remember that you are prey and that this world is not meant to be your dominion.

Have you ever heard about such mysterious thing as "balance"? Or "lack of extremes"?
And by default, if you add something to setting, then it either plays a role in it, or it doesn't belong. One of the rules of thumb for worldbuilding, just so you know. So by making werewolves or some other creatures so rare you can count all the examples in history on single hand - either all the record burned, you don't understand how to integrate legends into your setting or you are a really shit world-builder.
Guess which one is the most common.

Older homes in the SW have basements. Newer middle-class and working class homes in the SW do not have basements because they're expensive. Newer upper end homes can have basements, and there are more than a few contractors that deal exclusively with basements in the greater Phoenix area.

There's a lot of different ways it could work. But basically they aren't human nor are they cursed to begin with. They can turn into the classic anthropomorphic wolf; they've mastered language; and they don't like homo sapiens.

On the other hand, perhaps they are human. But perhaps they're the originals. They are not cursed. The old tales are misremembered half dream recollections of a time before language. A time when people could turn into animals, and the world was their oyster (so to speak). And then something wrong happened. There was a split. Children were born who could not change. Some advocated the slaughter of such abominations. Others said such a thing was monstrous. Those children might be lacking in the most basic way, but they were still _human_. Killing them would just be wrong.

Or maybe it is the monologue of a madman.

There are all sorts of possibilities.

I thought the antlers and the asymmetric arm gave it a lot of character, personally. I picked the Cleric Beast because it's the the first boss in Bloodborne, and the point at which it's clear that the game is not about "normal" werewolves.

Maybe Vicar Amelia's more your thing?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAgEQwX6q6Q

I never really thought there was a lot you could do with werewolves. They maul people and/or eat them. Maybe they're smart about it, maybe not. That's about as far as it went, in my eyes. Bloodborne took werewolf-y ideas and ran in a very different direction with them, and I found myself liking it quite a bit.
>>
A human shape twisted into a more canine form. Not a wolf with a human body. Also, can only die by a silver bullet. Dismember it, burn it, bury it alive. It will not die. It will regenerate and kill.

I also prefer when it's a curse and the afflicted don't know they're cursed. They just come to in the morning exhausted and dirty.

Generally, I like were-creatures to turn into actual (albeit large, and slightly weirdly proportioned) wolves instead of the whole anthro thing. Alternatively, if I'm feeling really unimaginative, werewolves don't exactly turn INTO wolves, but they do undergo musculature engorgement and the afflicted's mentality turns lupine.

From there the idea is that, while they do act like wild animals, the are certainly much much MUCH more powerful, quicker, and tougher than any real animal should have any right to be.

Descended from musings on modern fantasy over the past few days:

>for 99% of the time, mostly human with small identifiying features such as pupils and sharp teeth

>ability to control transformation, but full moon means you have to do it

>increased senses with additional risk of sensory abuse (e.g. dog whistles hurt like a bitch to a transformed werewolf, and gas attacks are extremely effective)

>no bullshit invincibility or supernatural powers aside from regenerative factor

>regen factor is a light "oh hey my body's going to totally purge this cut within a day" instead of "lol it vanished in 3 seconds"

>pure silver burns permanent marks into werewolf flesh not unlike an acid attack, jewelry has to have warnings for silver content and it's on the same legal tier as splashing acid on someone's face if you press a chunk into a werewolf's face or something

> no particular special durability, shoot a wolf in the chest and they'll die as easily as a human, though blood loss might be a bit less due to the wound starting to heal faster

And for whatever reason I can't get the image of a WW1 German werewolf facing down a British centaur with bayonets out of my head now. I gotta draw that shit later

Design wise: a bit less wolf-like and a bit more monstrous. The underworld series, for all of its flaws, had a damned good lycanthrope design.
Gaming wise: Predators through and through. The intelligence and cunning of a man given to the body and instincts of an apex predator.

It's simple, but it gets the job done.
>>
>>55726502
A big part of why I prefer a more monstrous look is the implication it isn't a real predator that makes any natural sense but prey's nightmare of a predator that they've become.
