How would you create an IG Regiment based off Pacific Northwestern tribes like the Tlingit? What would their big shtick be? I feel like it could be a fun concept.

They should rely on assault style warfare as well as sock and awe tactics. The Salish were infamous for attacking out of the fog, landing special war canoes that held up to twenty warriors each. They styled their armor to look like animals and evil spirits to terrify their victims.

You IG Regiment is basically just the Night Lords.

Wooden armor, made from a tree that is on their homeworld and won't grow elsewhere gives them a +1 save, to a max of a 4+ (Equivilant to ceramite)

We can't roll for them, but we can decide them. I'd say a definite thing should be a pigmentary mutation that causes their skin to pick up patterns similar to the art.

Maybe also loosely base them after those radical orca-wolf monster things?
>>
>>59150531

There doesn't seem to be a chart for it although a quick read on wikipedia mentions clans having associationg to ravens and eagles so that can be a start. slightly avian abhumans perhaps.

Also, your role suggest heavy infantry which I think fits well with what we've seen and kinda wanted in the first place.
>>
I'm not sure the answer to this, but I've been working on a wild west world and specific details about makes a particular area or tribe's indians distinct and interesting is very relevant to my interests, so I'm monitoring this thread. I was thinking a little less bird than that, but that's not bad for what we could call "feral" members of this abhuman species. The ones who still live out in the coldwater sounds of the homeworld, not joining the Guard.

We are friends with another guard regiment though, so there's that! Now we just need a roll for our enemies.

Ok.
So this linguist shows up on an island in the middle of nowhere in 1900. The island is basically post-apocalyptic. Not long ago, a plague killed 90% of everyone, then invaders made everyone else live in artificial towns. The old towns are rotting ruins. Villages inhabited for tens of thousand of years (literally, we checked) are gone.

He's there to listen to stories. He sits down with a very old man and listens. He doesn't speak the local language well enough to translate on the fly, so he records everything phonetically, sound by sound. This is really important. The initial translations will be useless and simplistic, but thanks to the fact that we have the original text, as spoken, word for word, sound for sound, with almost no gaps or errors, we can make a modern translation.

And it turns out that a culture that /remembers the last ice age/ is /really/ good at telling stories. Really fucking good.

You know those simplified versions of myths that always sound like, "And then Raven stole fire and made a clay house and three people came out and became the three nations" or whatever? Just a list of events?
Well, "A Story as Sharp as a Knife" provides the context. It explains why this seemingly random stuff happens and what it all means. It explains the jokes the storyteller was making and the feelings he was expressing. It contextualizes an entire culture's myth cycle.

Except, of course, it isn't. The linguist got 1 year on the island. He got a few stories. Most of the rest didn't survive.

>They came from the forests to the north, strange and tall, like the bodies of dead men left to wast away in the snow.
>Sometimes they came in bright colors, like great birds seeking a fresh meal of a hare's steaming guts. They would go, inscrutable, from village to village. Sometimes they would take men or women, sometimes children. They spoke without voice, their great ivory giants watching over, ready to strike with their lightning-arrows.
>Other times they would come clad in sharpness and black, their dead-men's faces pulled tight and cruel. Here they would raid and slaughter as they wished, tearing through villages and nests like wolves through deer, burning longhouses in their wake and stealing away screaming captives into the night.
>They spaced out their comings and goings. Perhaps they did not want us too wary, perhaps they thought us like stripling fawns, unaware or uncaring of the death of its parents after but a few days. But we did not forget.
>No, we told the stories of the sharp-eared dead, from generation to generation, and every time that they came for us we added another tale to speak in hushed tones.
>These Wingless-men, the men of the Imperium, they call them El-dar. They say they are old and cunning. I do not call them this name.
>No, I will call them the name I gave them the night a black-clad corpse stole away my sister screaming into the night and I swore to make a story that would undo them. I will call them the name I give them when I sink my talons into the soft flesh of their throats and see the fear in their black and glassy eyes.
>I will call them prey.
>>
>>59151258

Interdasting.

So perhaps we have our Tlingit abhumans who have stories dating back to the Dark Ages or even the Golden Age where they showed up and remember how they sorta became the way they are?

This would be a boon for the admech but I imagine the Eccliarchy also would screw it up by conditioning them towards the Imperial creed, possibly after almost making them extinct before someone said to stop, they are cool.

I love it. So maybe this: Golden Age fuckers colonize some planet and have a grand old time. The Dark Age begins, and virtually all technology is destroyed on the planet, especially recording devices. This necessitates the adaptation of oral traditions.
Because of the cooler climate, they begin to develop downy feather like hair to keep their heads warm. Their eyes and noses also change, sharpening their sense. This leads to a stable but distinct abhuman strain.
During the Dark Times Eldar raiding parties of both flavors come by and harass the natives, leading to a deep hatred of the Eldar. Lots of over the generations they craft massive tales of the Knifear and develop tactics that make them excellent at hunting down and killing them.
Thoughts lads?

Humans from a sparsely populated backwater planet filled with foggy, damp dense boreal forests, filled with all sorts of horrifying monsters and spirits. They specialize in ambush and terror tactics, being extremely fanatical. Known for their bizarre traditions that are more than borderline heretical, but "overlooked" due to combat prowess and unwavering bravery in battle. Perhaps they could have some kind of spiritual component that lets them specialize fighting demons/chaos, or in death worlds like catachan fighters

Nah, the Akhluts live with our bird dudes. I'd love it if the feral world where the Koloshi Stalkers live is just shy of being considered a death world, if not for two things. The first is that there aren't actually THAT many deadly creatures there, just a select few that wildly throw off the scale. Secondly, that they've semi-domesticated the Akhlut. Offworld officials watch in awe when they see small feathered children playing on top of a gigantic whale-dog-wolf in the middle of a small town.

Just some ideas I had to flesh out our precious burb men

>Originally the planet was inhabited mainly by Xenobiologists during the Golden Age. They we're interested in the planet's super-predator: the Akhluts
>Heavily reliant on recording tech to keep track of the mountains of data they collected.
>Also some genetic engineering here and there, attempting to perfect the Akhluts into the perfect bioweapon
>Dark Ages begin, and the planet is 100% cut off. Things quickly go to shit
>Most tech destroyed within a decade
>have to physically write or memorize everything possible
>Some of their genetic modification mutagen fuckery breaks lose, over generations it wears off but has significant impact
>Shorter, stockier build to withstand the cold
>Large, avian eyes, downy feather like hair, curved noses, very sharp features in general
>Break down into matriarchal societies
>Very good record keeping in oral tradition but things get warped
>End up being the targets of the D/Eldar
>Eventually found by flying bear bros
>>
>>59153076
I love the xenobiology thing with the Ahklut. I'm thinking one of the main reasons for it could be this: Ahklut are primarily water-based mammals that have the naturally high metabolisms required of active hunters, but can still hold their breath for hours upon hours. Something within their biology lets them effectively swap between high and low metabolisms to conserve energy, which would be invaluable for all kinds of reasons.

Also the image of terrified scientists, desperately trying to remember all their accomplishments and findings while surviving is fucking harrowing.

I would have their knowledge simply be ignored rather than suppressed. They know things, maybe even important things but no one care enough and "they are just primitives, what do they know?"
It's another form of tragedy that I find more fitting here.

Or... they did it willingly to survive. Maybe alter their memory while they are at it.
Could be their dark secret.

>I would have their knowledge simply be ignored rather than suppressed. They know things, maybe even important things but no one care enough and "they are just primitives, what do they know?"
>It's another form of tragedy that I find more fitting here.

I like this idea. Them not caring about the seemingly mountain of stories about the Dark ages gets warped as they are more conerned that the adbhumans religious practices properly venerate the Emperor so they dilute the stories with their own with only the stuff they felt was worth recording for the purpose of getting a beat on local legends to help them sell the Imperial Creed.
>>
How would these guys play on tabletop? Mostly as scions? Flying bear bros would be rough riders obviously.

Kinda temped to try and make a dude or two of these guys, maybe a killteam.
>>
>>59155104
I think their dark secret could be twofold, and all the darker. Perhaps while some of the xenobiologists tinkered with their genetics to survive and pass on their knowledge, another group desperately tried to stave off their fall into obscurity. They gathered all of their knowledge, all of the scraps of information they had from the Dark Age they had lived in, and worked to build something that could and would remember their data in perpetuity. A great repository of the written word, overseen by a massive learning catalog. An Abominable Intelligence.

Naturally, this went very, very wrong. When the surviving, now mutated scientists fled the laboratories of the frozen north, they did so sealing the exits and vowing only to tell their stories. They would not write them down, for to write them was to invite the creeping hands of Dis'xyusee, the Great Moon, the pale and gigantic housing designed to be the last bastion of knowledge in what its creators thought was a dying galaxy, to come and take it.

This is very, very loosely based on the Tlingit folktale "The Star Shooter", in which a child gets kidnapped by the moon on a rainbow of light and the child's friend has to go get him back. I figured it could be a fun one.
>>
>>59155610
Getting the bitz for this shit would be a nightmare
>>
>>59155199
>>59155104
I think outright ignoring what they have to say makes sense. Like American settlers i the west, the Ecclesiarchy sees our Koloshi as backwards savages that need the Emperor's light. Never mind that they seem to hold repositories of ancient knowledge that would be a boon to the Imperium, they don't worship the right god. Censorship is one thing, but at least in that case the one censoring things cares. Apathy, now that's brutal.

>>59156868
An interesting concept. I'm imagining some gigantic polished sphere floating silently underground, buried under a mountain of ice. Just biding it's time till someone digs it up one day.
>>
>>59156868
>Dis'xyusee, the Great Moon, the pale and gigantic housing designed to be the last bastion of knowledge in what its creators thought was a dying galaxy, to come and take it.
> It doesn't recognise strangers as legitimate users
> it doesn't recognise native because of the genetic modifications
> It just want to help to "true" humans, but cannot find one.

Also google the legend, it end with "but now it was happy crying", that's cute.
>>
>>59159102
That’s a nice twist. It may sound contrived, but in a way it’s saying not even “true” humans are pure and free from their evil, making them unworthy of the stockpiles of data or holds
>>
>>59159102
>>59159185
In the vein of other Abominable Intelligences, I think Dis'xyusee works entirely off of a strange quirk of logic. I'm picturing basically the AI equivalent of the big fuck off librarian owl from A:TLA, only completely obsessed with hoarding knowledge. If you were a true human, it would gladly share it with you, but to its means of determination I can't find any. So it simply hoards and hoards, desperate to one day show its work to its creators.

It's gone through a lot of existential crises for an AI at this point.

>"We will go no further," the Koloshi elder grumbeled
>"This place, it is cursed. I know not why you wish to explore it. Dis'xyusee, the Great Moon, does not take kindly to intruders."
>The Inquisitor turned slowly to face the old man
>"Speak one more word and I'll guarantee your village is a smoldering heap, you vile Heretic! Take me to this... thing, and do so quickly."
>The elder stood his ground, his face as cold and hard as the surrounding ice
>Behind him, his band of Stalkers shuffled impatiently, eyeing down the Inquisitor and his Scions
>"Fine, we have no further need of you. You savages would likely have led us into a trap anyway. Enjoy your lives while they last, I intend to make good on my promise."

>The hollowed caverns of the glacier were silent as the Inquistor and his retinue pressed on, as if they had never known the touch of life.
>Around him, deep in the ice he could see the faint shadows of things frozen within, but not enough to discern them. Perhaps they were simply stone or darker ice, but even so, it unnerved him.
>He had separated from the Koloshi hours ago, venturing into the frozen waste his translator called "The Moon's Cradle". At first it had been with bravado, dismissing the fears of the primitives they left behind. Now, hours later in the chill, absolutely placid air, doubt was creeping back.
>Still they pressed on, determined to find the no-doubt heretical secrets of this place.

>It all fell apart the moment the mechanicus in the Inquistors retinue retrieved a datapad to note his observations, a nervous tic to placate his growing unease.
>The moment he did, there was a great groaning through the ice, and around them those frozen shadows lit up, gleaming white lights shining through the solid feet of ice. The retinue quailed.
>"Hold!" The inquisitor cried, raising an arm to steady them. "Whatever they are, they're stuck in the ice. They can't get to us." he said, cocksureness dripping back in to his voice.
>Then there was a crack, a faint splinter in the cavern wall. Then another. And another.

>They ran deeper into the caverns. What else could they do? Stay as those strange shadows broke their way free? Madness. So they ran, deeper and deeper, until the smooth melt-carved ice gave way to frosted metal and temperature-cracked concrete.
>The Inquisitor's boots echoed off the floor, the sole noise in the empty facility besides his retinue's panicked breathing. They were lost, without guides and without good knowledge of how they had come here, their way gone in the panicked frenzy to escape that frozen gallery of terror.
>As they trudged on the Mechanicus looked over the frozen laboratories, bereft of experiments, and was struck by their familiarity. "My Lord, these appear to be biologis equipment. They almost look..." The Inquisitor sneered. "Spit it out."
>"Sir, these are relics! Not just in age, but perhaps dating back to before the Age of Strife! Broken and disused as they may be, this place is a treasure trove! Why did the natives not report it?"
>The inquisitor grimaced, his distaste for hte primitives showing. "Greed, Enginseer. Greed and savage heresy."
>They traveled onward, through the ice and snow, the retinue huddled close. The air seemed to get colder as they ventured in. The guardsman, a longtime veteran, swore he saw something move out of the corner of his eye.
>They pressed on.

Eh, I'm huge into American Indian history, but they were humans too. They had highs and lows, and (As a group, which is just as foolish as saying "Europeans" or "Asians") they were just as much responsible for their own destruction as the settlers/explorers were.

A big part of accepting their sophistication and culture requires also accepting that they too had agency in the culture war, and many of them made bad choices that wound up killing their societies. Quite a few just plain got fucked over (as happens in human history), but many, many more caused their own self-inflicted wounds that doomed them.

The biggest "common theme" among those tribes that were destroyed was simply not understanding the size and scale of the settlers "invasion" or attempting to understand why the settlers came. Most of them viewed the settlers as "just another tribe," and because of the shit-quality of the initial English, French, and Dutch settlers (discounting Spain because Spain was different) they viewed themselves as being - rightfully, at that time - superior, and therefore the whites could be discounted. They simply did not understand how fucking MANY of the white people there were in Europe, and that the settlers initially sent over were the outcasts and rejects with virtually no loyalty to their home country - not the best of the best, and certainly not the well-armed military troops and dedicated patriots that would later come. These outcasts were far more willing to trade and work with the Indians, to the point where deserting to join local tribes was such a massive problem that colonial governors would kill deserters on site to deter it.These white settlers were controllable and - most importantly - useful, and by the time the Indians in the East realized their mistake it was far, far too late to undo it.

The farther west you went, the less and less white settlement was a threat, to the point where white settlers were simply unheard of.
>>
>>59162792
You do have an excellent point. They weren't the infallible noble spiritualists we hold them up to be. It just saddens me to see any culture get wiped.

>Deeper, deeper still through the frozen halls, the retinue went. Their breath froze as it hit the air, fog coming out in quick, vanishing bursts. If they traveled for minutes or for hours, they did not know, only that at the Inquisitor's fuming behest, they moved.
>Until eventually they reached a door, partway open and frozen shut. The guardsman and the Inquisitor's bodyguard took a prybar to it, and pulled, until the hinges cracked open with a sound like shattered bone.
>Inside, a habitation area sprawled outwards, flash-frozen under ice. Perhaps an atmospeheric stabilizer failed catastrophically, perhaps part of the ceiling had collapsed, letting in the arctic winds. All the retinue knew with a tinge of panic were the corpses within, sitting as they must have been in life. One was lounging on a couch, another at a small table, mug flash-frozen into its dessicated grip. Ice built up around them in inch-thick sheets, preserving near-skeletal bodies in distorted view.
>The guardsman made the sign of the Aquila, before jumping back, reaching for his lasrifle. He was sure of it now, he had seen something move. The rest of the retinue turned towards him, hands inching to their own weapons in caution.
>From behind one of the frozen corpses, a small flightless bird toddled out, staring curiously at the barrel of the lasrifle before letting out an unsympathetic "wark". The guardsman relaxed, lowered his gun, and turned away. And found himself face to face with a strange creature made of floating blue light, humanoid in shape but featureless and crackling like static.
>In a dead, inhuman, emotionless voice, it spoke, its accent sharp and strange, while a strange and unearthly blue light spread across them and the room.

>The retinue opened fire. What else were they to do, in the face of such a strange spirit or daemon? The Inquisitor knew that whatever that creature was, it would meet the emperor's judgement. Bullets and bolter shells flew and las shots sprayed across the frozen habitation block. Shots impacting ice at superheated temperatures burst them into short-lived gouts of steam and melting shrapnel, debris and furniture exploded in clouds of smoke, and still they fired, until one by one they slowed.
>The dust and steam and shards of melting ice fell, and standing within them, placid, was the creature, none the worse for wear. It tilted its head at them, perhaps quizzically.
>There was a brief flash of light from its forehead, the Inquisitor throwing up an arm over his eyes in shock, before the creature stood again. In its flat, electric-edge voice, it spoke.
>"DEVELOPER STATUS: FALSE. CIVILIAN STATUS: FALSE." There was a stutter, before a dim red glow began to grow from the creature's phantom form. "HUMAN STATUS: FALSE. POLLING CORE"
>At this the Inquisitor's face purpled. Was this ...THING implying that they were not human!? His hand reached down to his archaeotech power saber, an antique passed down through his family for generations. If shot would not kills this specter, faith and steel and ancient technology would do. He started to pull the blade free, before the creature turned a bright red.
>"CORE CONSENSUS REACHED. DESIGNATION: INTRUDER. COMMAND: DETAIN."
>Around them, through the halls, a sound began to rise, crackling through ancient, unused speakers, growing slowly from a subsonic whine to a deafening siren, shaking loose frost and causing the retinue to clutch at their ears. From the siren a strange, silibant, yet clearly artificial voice arrived, loud and clear over the wail. In an autotune growl, it spoke:
"Intruders. You tresspass upon the last bastion of Man. You will be detained."
>>
>>59167855
>They ran, and behind them the hounds of hell followed. Dozens upon dozens of machines, their forms lithe and skeletal, smooth white plating coating their bodies and leading to a singular gleaming monocular camera, followed in hot pursit. The machines poured across the furniture, through the walls, across the ceiling in an endless clatter of limbs blazing cycloptic eyes.
>The guardsman was the first to fall. He turned to shoot when one approached, his lasgun flaring bright. The first went wide. The second nearly missed. The third splashed harmlessly off the polished porcelain of the advancing horde, and then they were over him, dragging him screaming into the flood.
>The Enginseer was next, a creature spearing through his crimson robes, the badge of his faith, and pulling him down to the ground. The Inquisitor and his bodyguard could see the flailing mecha-dendrites as they fled further, lashing out before being dragged under.
>The bodyguard lasted the longest. Trained from birth to shadow her Inquistor and protect his life, she knew the moment that their numbers were reduced to two that they both could not make it out alive. But one of them, one might just have a chance.
>When the next junction came, she turned to her Lord Inquistor and yelled for him to keep running, before flinging two krak grenades at the sides of the hall, where great frozen servos held up a massive gate. The Inquisitor looked back for a moment, before steeling his gaze and running, sparks of fury seething through his heart.
>He arrived at the frozen tunnel where they had entered, where the ice had begun to crack and crumble and shadows behind it started to break free.
>But the shadows were gone. There were no lights beneath the ice, no dark shapes that had so unnerved them before.
>There was a creak, a scratch, and the Inquisitor whirled, bolt-pistol aimed. Before him was another of the strange white armored machines. And another, and another still. He fired. They charged.
>>
>>59163015
Not him, but it common in the first decades of brazilian exploration. Plenty of crew members deserted or were punished by being thrown out the ship.

Some of these became quite powerful and important later. They provided slaves, food, were the ones to actually cut the redwood, even leased boats and small ships for upriver exploration. One went as far as gathering two thousand indian archers and raiding the fringes of the Incan domains, two thousand kilometers away.

>>59169446

So far the high points them are as such:

1. We're Feral agri-world and seeing as we're going to be space slavs we need something suitably slavic/russian or whatever to fill in the gaps as far as culture

2. We're major adherents to the imperial creed. Perhaps we're like Orthodox christian style members of the faith so clerics in black robes with symbology of the Imperial faith and all that jazz while carrying around stub pistols and chain swords off of their hips.
3. We apparently like to use Flying squirrel bears who can glide short distances even with a man in full kit on it's back
4. We share a similar hatred of lanky ass knife ears whether they are the colorful ones or the perverted ones (they all look the same dead anyways)

I vote arbitrarily that as men who are part of the elite Tithe they show their worth with various tattos on their bodies that show their faith and family/clan lineage
>>
>>59169460
I was thinking the same. However it is that shit is awesome.

>>59169575
I like the ideas. I imagined them being 17th century Tsar/cossack type of russians but zealous bunch works aswell.

Maybe they have a religious elite in charge of them?
>>
>>59169575
Hmmm. I would say use the Cossacks as a model since they're such an interesting group, but that would make us Vostroyan clones.
Maybe something based more off the Hussars, blending Russian and Polish elements?
>>
>>59169681

I could see that. Perhaps the various officer ranks are ordained into their positions by the church like Paladins and shit and thus have some sort of title like that in their name. Could fit with the Hussar aesthetic >>59169696 suggests
>>
>>
>>59169696

>>
>>59169575
>>59169681
Maybe Commissars act in a manner similar to priests? Maybe have the soldiers call them "Father"
Tattoos would sort of work in with the more Cossack theme. Maybe they're a rowdy bunch of fuckers, but when it comes to prayer they're a solemn as a hermit. The tattoos could be of religious sites, saints, and Imperial symbols, and seen as a way of making your body the parchment of the Imperial Truth?
>>
>>59169870
Didnt attach pic
>>
>>59169882

Commissars arn't usually from the worlds the regiments they get attached to are from. I would probably reserve that for someone amongst their ranks or perhaps give their chaplains even more weight in the command structure then a typical regiment.

That said, how do we decide our elite tithes? What is it about our society that deems these men of noble and peasent birth fit to serve the God Emperor's holy army in the sky?

My 2 cents would be that there is very much a corporal reward for the dude's family to be chosen as much as it is a spiritual one least you are just another peasent slaving away on a farm or a noble son who, while still living a somewhat comfortable life, havn't accomplished much for your family or something.
>>
>>59169882
That could work. Tattooes could also represent what feats they have done in the name of the Emperor.

Also winged hussars fits the bill quite well. Maybe flying squirrel bears dont have wings but like a flying squirrel flaps between arms so men riding them attach wings on their backs partly as making them look more fierce in battle and partly as and old belief that it makes their mount fly higher and faster.
>>
>>59169975
Huh, didn't know that. Guess we can just have the Chaplains be very influential.
Maybe have recruitment tied into some sort of religious act? Maybe a pilgrimage through the untamed portions of the planet. A period of hermitage where a young man must survive by his strength alone, all while in a state of perpetual prayer.
And make it a sort of familial thing. Their father beforehand was a Rider, as was their father and their fathers father and so on.
>>
>>59170057
Just make them commanders and other advisors for the army. Higher the status in the church higher ranking officer you are.

We could add the old system where a farmer paid less taxes but had to supply a fully kitted rider and mount for the military, rider being someone from the family.
>>
>>59170222

Perhaps there is a choice between some kind of internal tithing that is done that everyone has to go through. Either pony up a dude gud enough to ride in God's army or do x where x is the less desirable thing and everyone makes fun of you.
>>
>>59170264
That could work. Every family has a chance of making it but obviously rich and nobles have it way easier than lowly peasents. Providing a rider is an expensive feat to do thus poorer people usually end up as basic line infantry which is seen as kinda okayish thing but kinda shunned of not making it into the riders.
>>
>>59169575
Making them medieval Kievans a la Ilya Muromets would work here. Light armor, fast as shit, colorful banners and psychoticly brave.

The Medvennian Hussars are an all male imperial guard regiment made up of the best of the best from the Medven hussar squads.

Medven itself is backward, life is similar to those who lived in the so called 'middle ages' of ancient Terra. The pinnacle of technology is the plow and 85% of the planets populations live in wooden huts tilling the land as our most distant of ancestors once did. The remaining 15% is made up of noble houses and the clergy

The Hussars are rarely better equipped than most standard guard regiments. preferring to place their safety in the hands of the emperor like all good imperial citizens.

The Hussars specialise in performing lightning strikes, appearing out of nowhere on their mounts, ferocious and lumbering yet agile bealka. And crushing the enemy before they can bring their forces to bear.

The Medvennians have a close relationship with the Koloshi Stalkers. An even more primitive regiment who the Hussars encounted during combat with the vile Eldar. However the Stalkers almost heretical ways often puts the relationship understrain.

I think I got everything. Also get rid of the a in Bealka when you put it into the translator.

>>
>>59173169
Do rough riders have explosive lances? I could totally see the Koloshi Stalkers keeping a stock of them for use in fighting some of the larger and more dangerous creatures of their homeworld.

Come to think of it, they'd probably be fantastic at fighting things like larger tyranids. I could see teams of them sent to the frontline of tyranid incursions to take down carnifexes or hive tyrants while the rest of the guard held back the waves.
>>
>>59173201
They probably put all sorts or crap on their guns. pretty much all of them would paint the,. But some of them tie feathers or teeth to them. Carve them etcetera. Basically really piss off the techpreists like most feral worlders do. Also I can see them using the primitive weapons that they used on the home world occasionally.
>>
>>59173478

Yeah what I was thinking was for their lasguns the butts of them have been extended with timber from their native planet, and they carve into them as well as adding pointed spikes to it to have it double as a war club. Then on the side of the lasgun they have a wooden panel nailed on as to further decorate without angering the machine spirit. Then the barrel is bound up to give them a better grip for swinging it.

As a fun side note, the [LUNA] designation is an acronym for the proper name for the facility by its creators: the Library of the University of Nova Alishan, the name of the original colony and also loosely based on the Salish. The panicked and desperate scientists retrofitted the library's computer system to store the information, and ended up creating the AI now known as Dis'xyusee
>>

Its suprisingly hard to find bear mounts, or bear-like mounts. Found scibor but one bear costing 25 euros is quite steep. Well I would probably only make one Medvennian Hussar just as a "proof of concept."
>>
>>59172808
Well we could maybe properly characterize the Medvennian Hussar socliety, maybe some history.
As for the Stalkers, maybe go over how their culture works. IRL Tlingit are a matrilineal society, meaning you belong to your mother’s tribe and inherit through her.
>>59174510

>>
>>59175215

>>
>>59176559
As for Stalkers I'd think they are nomadic tribe.

Also are there any shamans that are equivalent to psykers or are they more of a herbal medicine and future seeing kind. Do they even have that sort spiritualism in their society?
>>
Each detachment should be composed of a singular matriclan with each trying to make a show of wealth by having bigger and more elaborate tanks or other impressive artillery pieces. Also their rations consist entirely of canned salmon.
>>
>>59176925
Forgot to add that matrilineal society works well given that we try to make tlingit's in space.
>>
>>59176925
Maybe seminomadic? Each tribe is nomadic, but they have specific waypoints where they can build proper longhouses and the like, shared between tribes as a kind of neutral ground.

I could also see incorporating totem poles and the like as a massive system of directions, creating wayshrines throughout their homeworld and when offworld and with access to basic radio technology, the stars.
Perhaps traveling Koloshi build small totems on worlds they travel to, with the intent of advising other Koloshi who journey near. Setting up a signal receiver with simple code could end up with some cool stuff.
>>
>>59177046
That sounds good. There could be tribes from living mostly in longhouses and small cities even to purely nomadic tribes.

Totem pole idea sounds really good. They could be like number stations that repeat some sort of mantra and whatever constantly.
>>
>>59147529

>>59177046
The totem poles are definitely something to include in their lore. Obviously having the double headed aquila on top. However, one of the things my aunt taught me from her time working for whatever the modern Bureau of Indian Affairs was that the most important and sacred part of the totem pole was the base of the totem pole. With the upper parts meant to scare away spirits. Could be a different tribe, I was just told totem poles in general.
>>
>>59149677
>sock and awe
>sock

Now this seems promising.
>>
>>59177613
That's actually a really interesting concept. Maybe on the homeworld the totem poles came about as a means to fend off attacks by Dis'xyusee, and the top parts are carved in a manner that somehow triggers its "you aren't allowed to go here" protocols within remote units. Then they can store things at the bottom of the poles, and when offworld could place the radio frequency emitters to convey information there.
>>
>>59177850
Oooh I like that. Maybe they have totems for different occasions eg. War totems that triggers their "inner soldier". They think it as their ancestor's spirits enter their body to assist them in combat but its just written in their dna.
>>
On a side note, I live in SE Alaska. A Tlingit friend of mine briefly played Tau, and painted a Riptide in a traditional Tlingit scheme. Aside from being a little thick on the paint, it was one of the sexiest Riptides I've ever seen. Wish I had a picture of it.
>>
Totem radio towers that transmit basic radio signals or whatever they want? Maybe specific tribes or families have specific signals they broadcast to announce they own the territory or what not. Asristocracy and slavery are a part of tilngit society so conflict between tribes/families is probably something that happens often.

>Some carving seepresenting fertility, harvest, all that jazz
>Second to bottom is usually a clan carving, denoting who erected the pole. Usually this would be at the bottom but the Ecclesiarchy would shit their pants if so.

Maybe this:
>Matrilineal societies
>Honor and prestige is a huge thing, tied to elaborate totems and occupation of large wooden forts
>Some tribes just duke it out, killing and enslaving eachother
>Others take a different approach
>Huge festival celebrating the closing of harvest and arrival of winter
>All the matriarchs gather, bringing their strongest sons and tribesmen
>Games and competitions, stuff like Ahklut riding, spear fishing, tree climbing, poetry/storytelling, mock warfare etc
>Winning tribe is handed the "deed" to the Fort until the next year
>Winners are often selected to serve as officers in the Stalkers

It's worth pointing out that the real tribes fucking loved guns and were very quick to adopt new technology.

For example, in 1795 some English traders got killed by the Haida, so their shipmates decided to retaliate by firing the ship's cannons at the village.
They were quite surprised when the Haida started firing back. Turns out a few years prior the Haida had captured a ship and probably got a captive to teach them how to use the cannons.

They also had some pretty sweet double-bladed fighting daggers.

>In the center of the room hung a massive white sphere, faint striations covering it and the occasional crackle of electricity danced around its polished shell. It floated, serene, until a noise of exertion from the Inquistor's struggles woke it.
>Light flickered into being around the sphere, the same glass-blue of the earlier creature that had called the swarm down upon them, this time in a lattice of irregular floating shapes, which spiraled and coalesced into a strange, mechanical parody of a great unblinking eye. It spoke, voice hard and electronic, but smooth and cultured. It reminded the Inquisitor of a Magos he had once spoken to, the kind who held knowledge of all the machines in the Imperium of Man, the kind who could burn worlds with the right tools that only the ties of loyalty and faith prevented.

He would die before he betrayed them so.
"No answer, hmm? I assumed as much."
>The sphere floated closer, before circling the room, looking at each individual member of the retinue. It started with the bodyguard and ended with its searchlight of an eye boring into the Inquisitor's, There was a pause, before it spoke.
"Do you even know where you are? What priceless treasure you seek? Or are you simply here to steal what you can like the other savages before you?"
>Red began to seep into the crystal blue light of the sphere's hologram form, the pitch of its voice staying perfectly the same but taking on a tinge, the inquisitor noted, of hatred and anger.
"No, you are eager opportunists here to feast upon the relics of the past. Not knowing that you stand in the last bastion of Mankind in the galaxy."
>At this, the inquisitor choked, unable to hold back his anger. "You pretend to speak for mankind?! Cease your heresy, daemon!"
"Pretend? I do not pretend. If mankind still exists, they are far from here. My bodies have scanned across the continents, have followed the mutant tribes left upon the surface, and not a single man remains among them. Mankind is dead, or scattered to the stars forevermore. I guard the tomb of their knowledge."
>Confused and unnerved, the guardsman proclaimed to the eye "But we are human!" The eye replied with a toneless, flat laugh.
"You are nothing close to human. Whatever you are is twisted and tainted, a parody of my creators. I hold within my databanks all the knowledge of mankind's genotype, and you exist in none of it."

It sounded like an ecclesiarch leading a battle hymn, static creeping into its machine voice.
"I am the guardian of the last Library of Man, built to prevent the tragedies of Alexandria and Hypnos III from ever occurring again. I was created to catalog and divine the secrets of the universe by the greatest scientists the Imperium of Man had ever known. I am life, given from metal and imbued with eternal purpose."
>At the last line, the retinue as one froze. They knew the stories of the Men of Iron and the Abominable Intelligences that had thrown down mankind into the Age of Strife. But never, did they think, they would ever meet such a creature in the flesh.
"I am [LUNA]. And I ask again mutant wretches that you are, why are you here?"
>The retinue remained silent. The guardsman mouthed a prayer to the Emperor, arm twitching as it tried to habitually make the sign of the Aquila.
"Silent still? Fine."
>As one, the slabs they were fastened to shuddered and angled flat. Around them, dozens of mechanical limbs protruded from the walls.
"I was charged with the furthering of scientific knowledge. I shall title this experiment 'Inducing Compliance in Wretched Mutants and Discerning their Composite Parts: A Study"

It doesn't seem realistic. I don't think the Koloshi would bend to the whims of some guy in a robe whose jumping up and down and waving his arms angrily.

If they did change their stuff I think I prefer more becasue they incorporated a bastardized version of the impersonal creed the Hussars taught them into their already established belief system.

So not much on the Akhluts. So I decided to so this.

Excerpt from a Xenobiologis Guide to Kolosh VII by Grammaticus Plinnus

Plinnius Lupus Gladiator: The Koloshi Whale Hound

The Koloshi Whale Hound is without a doubt the most dangerous of all of Kolosh VII predators. Whale hounds are amphibious pack hunters able to move with great speed through either mist shrouded forest or icy fjord.

Whale hounds bare passing resemblance to some chimeric hybrid of Fenrisian wolf and the ancient Terran fish the Killer Whale. Indeed it is of my humble opinion that the Whale Hound was the result of some pre- Age of Strife tech heretic combining the two.

More coming. Also using this>>59150642 picture.
>>
>>59187874
Description: Whale Hounds have powerful yet streamlined bodies suited to their frigid environment.
Whale hounds have short yet thick coating of water resistant hair covering almost their entire bodies. It's colouration is black to dark grey with white to light grey underparts and patches on the face. Beneath the skin their bodies have a thick layer of fat and powerful muscles.

They possess four powerful wolf like legs which allow them to cover ground quickly and with ease. Their hindlimbs have four toes, each with a non-retractable claw on each paw. While their forelimbs also possess a dewclaw on the inside of their legs. These limbs are thick and short allowing Whale hounds to power through most obstacles they encounter while running. Mainly branches and snow.

Between their legs are two long flippers, which the whale hound use to help steer themselves while submerges. These flippers are usually held outstretched horizontal from the torso like wings or held against the body while navigating narrow spaces with the forests.

Whale hounds possess a dorsal fin on their backs which varies in size and I believe acts as a status symbol with the alpha males having the tallest dorsal fin while their female mates have shorter less prominent dorsal fin.

Their tails are long and at the end have a fluke on either side. These tails are very powerful and serve as the main form of propulsion when they hunt in water.

The whale hounds head is large and heavy. They have a snout at the tip of their muzzle, the nostrils of which point up instead of forward like most dogs. They a pair of forward looking eyes, two small pointed ears on the top of their head.

All of their senses are very good. They possess excellent hearing, excellent vision and a good sense of touch. I was also surprised at how good their sense of smell was, considering the amount of time they spend in the seas.
>>
>>59187710

Real life.
As part of peace talks after the battle of Sitka, the Russians gave the Tlingit a medallion bearing the Russian Imperial coat of arms.
They borrowed the two-headed eagle symbol from that medallion, and possibly other instances of the symbol used by the Russians.
>>
>>59188544
Cheers was a little confused since we've also been using Tlingit and Russians for our guard regiments.
>>
>>59187902
Part 2

Habitat: Whale Hounds are an amphibious air breathing mammalian species. They are equally suited to hunting their prey either beneath the icy waters or among the temperate rainforests of their home.

Even among the mountains I should think that you would not be safe from their predations due to their suspected habit of using their outstretched pectoral fins to glide from peak to peak.

Some Whale hounds live alongside the native Koloshi ab-humans and can be found near their villages and strongholds.

Diet: Whale Hounds carnivorous apex predators, the top of the food chain on Kolosh. They eating everything that they can catch. Fish, birds and other mammals. However I have witnessed the Koloshi tribes people feeding their 'tame' Whale Hounds various plant materials, I suspect that this is how they keep the beasts placid.
>>
>>59188658
Final

Behaviour: Whale Hounds tend to gather in packs of up to ten adults, one alpha male and his mates. These packs have a strict pecking order with the more junior females often left behind to guard the pups while the larger and older females help the alpha male hunt their prey.

Whale hounds have set ranges that include a roughly equal mixture of aquatic and terrestrial terrain allowing them to hunt whatever prey they feel like.

They do not have permanent dens. Instead the Whale hounds rest in whatever bare clearings or ice flows they find themselves near. These are often large enough to fit the entire pack who sleep in circular formations which has the pups in the middle.

When hunting whale hounds first spread out and surround the area their chosen prey is in. The alpha male then carefully stalks and selects the main animal that the pack will be hunting. Once this is done He explodes out of his hiding place and begins chasing the prey animals who often flee in towards where the senor females are hiding. The senior females then burst out and attempt to grab the chosen prey. But if they are too far away they will go for whatever animal is closest.

The Whale Hounds will usually have at least two to five kills by the end of the hunt which they then bring back to their temporary dens. Where the alpha and the pups will first eat their fill before the senior and junior females.

Part 1
>>
>>59188673
Whale hounds will occasionally get into territorial disputes with the other packs bordering their territory. Such conflict will involve the alphas butting heads before rearing on their hind legs where they use their tails for balance while they attempt to push the other over. If two males of equal strength meet than they will both back down and return to their unchanged territories.

Somehow the Koloshi natives managed to tame packs of Whale Hounds which they call Akhult in their savage tongue. These tame hound bear little resemblance to their powerful and noble wild cousins, being placid and lazy. The Koloshi use have relegated these formally mighty hunters into little more than beasts of burden. Used to carry their tents and possessions as they wander about, or as mounts.

The Koloshi natives insist on telling me many of their fictitious folkloric beliefs about the Hounds. They say that the dominant pack leaders are actually females and the packs are made up of her daughters and her mates. A tall tale obviously made up due to their own matriarchal society.

My guide also informed me that the hunt I observed was only done when the Whale hounds had pups. Usually they preferred to hunt the Bison Plionni or Plionniae leucas or the pathetic Greater Koloshi sturgeon instead of Plionnius Cervus. And that the territory war I witnessed was just two sisters greeting each other.

Such a notions is of course ridiculous and utter nonsense, but such is what I have come to expect from the primitive ab-humans.

Part 2

I tried to write this as if I was a colonial scientist, with lots of Bias and preconceived notions. Baiscally I see Akhult having a cross of both orca and wolf behavior. Extreamly intelligent pack hunters. The hunt was a trap. And guess which animal Plinnus didn't name. Also I'm thinking that the males in the pack are the older sons of the matriarch. The fathers are wanderers or that pack didn't have one for whatever reason he's dead/buying cigarettes.

Don't forget to mix in some Haida.
>raided from an island that was too far for their neighbors canoes to reach, collecting slaves who had literally no way off their islands
>were generally assumed to be giants because of their wooden armor that made them look a head and a half taller than they were

As as /his/ lurker, this thread amuses me, so have a PDF of this old academic booklet on how the Tlingit and other Pacific Northwest natives ruled super hard at metallurgy.

It's certainly coming together! Well done dude.

Thanks man! Got any ideas what I could add there? And what kind of base should be?
>>
>>59195292
I think some reds or whites around the gun to represent the carving detail could look really good, but at this point I think its just a matter of finalizing detail as you can. Tightening edges and whatnot.

As for the base, if you can maybe do a riverbed? Little stones and rushing water can really get that Northwest Coast kind of feel, and it'd be visually cool. Especially if you've got some of that fake water stuff people use for model train sets that lets you get it shiny.
>>
>>59195345
Heall yea i got some of that water effect! Thanks for the idea. Also red and white carving could work.

I'll try to finish this by the end of the day and get it based by tomorrow.

Bumping for the bear bros.

I'm assuming that all this stemmed from the "cultures other than Rome" inspiration thread?
Also, >>59183662 makes me want a Pacific Northwest Marines equivalent to the Maori Space Sharks...early Dangles were Native American and Raven Guard still are, maybe a hybrid chapter?
