What’s your plot for a Warhammer 40000 movie?

Cyberpunk noir about an inquisitor rooting out a genestealer cult in the underbelly of a hive.

Just a movie of the book SPACE WOLF since it acts as a good intro to the universe, followed through the eyes of a viking moving up to a marine.

It's already been written.

Imperial Guard vs Orks is a great way to ease audiences unfamiliar with 40K into the setting. Guard are normal humans, Orks are vicious aliens. Cain fighting a guerrilla war whilst liberating civilians whilst trying to break through to friendly territory is a simple story with a good narrative. You've got characters like the tracker, the vet, the former cop and juvenile delinquent being forced to team up as an auto-cannon team and, most importantly, a love interest for the main character. All in all, it would make for a ripping adventure story with extremely wide appeal.

Kid growing up on an agri world watches most of his family get killed by a surprise dark eldar raid. At the last second him and his mum get saved by the imperial fists turning up.

Given that his home is destroyed and his family are dead his mum decides to take him on a pilgrimage to holy terra. He grows into a young adult whilst waiting in the immigration queue. They continually get denied entry. Eventually some khornate cultists hidden within the crowd go full ISIS, killing most of the crowd including his mum who dies in his arms. He slips away in the confusion into the underhive. A gang takes him in given his sassy give no fucks attitude and he learns all about some of the different dangers of the universe.

Plot ensues and he ends up uncovering a genestealer cult. His pals lie dying around him and at the last second he's saved by the fists again, who thank him for his service to the emperor.

Sequel hook: the same dark eldar kabal are raiding the underhive, he follows them back through an open webway portal.

Sad romance subplot: he falls in love with a girl he sees in the black market of the underhive, turns out she's a hrud thrall and when he finally finds her again she's an old lady.

Something like this would be ideal I think. Gives an insight into what normal life in the Imperium is like, touches on some of the main threats, could bring in Space Marines later on as a sort of cameo, but keeps the scale quite small. Something like the last Dredd film in the 40k universe.

I remember thinkin up a story about a shell shocked Inquisitor who survived a Chaos Ambush being tasked to investigate possible corruption in a hive city. It was going to actually be a young Psyker who had the power to transfer lifeforce, so heal the sick by drawing life from plants/animals. The Inquisitor thinks she's special and worth protecting, but his superior thinks she's an agent of Nurgle spreading decay, so the protagonist decides to try and smuggle her off world having to fight against a Culexus Assassin sent against them at one point.

Okay I've actually thought about this more and it's brilliant, it would work perfectly, and crazily enough there is enough material surrounding the Fall of Tyran and Battle for Macragge for a full trilogy.

First film, you get your production studio logos up quietly, then cold open from black onto a miserable quasi-medieval hellhole where some crazed preaching man is being hauled off to be burnt at the stake for heresy - this is Taggarth, the Seer of Corrinto, from pic related. He does his whole bit about the End Times while Ecclesiarchy enforcers bind him and shout over him at the crowd, people are uneasy, it's your first look at Imperial life and it's total mayhem and grime and then this guy is burnt alive. Scene ends with him staring up into the sky screaming about the coming darkness and the camera pans up into the black sky with ominous lowkey music starting and just stares out into the black void.

The background noise fades out and you get the narrator coming in with the classic intro to the 40k setting at the beginning of all the books "For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth" etc etc. Montage of gritty art of the Imperium, maybe just use the actual Blanche paintings and have it be as if the audience is seeing an actual hand-written tome is being turned page by page before their eyes while the major credits flash on screen as it pans around.

"But the universe is a big place and, whatever happens, you will not be missed..."

Cut to orbital view of Tyran, data-screed scrolls onto the screen telling you it's Tyran, on the Eastern Fringe, you know the usual sort of planetary overviews they do in the Codexes.

Scenes of the AdMech going about their daily lives. Dudes in robes chanting and working on machinery, servitors toiling away in pits, just all kinds of bizarre and striking AdMechy as fuck imagery, and finally introduces you to the main Tyran cast including Magos Varnak (cont)
>>
>Guardsmen vs Nids.
>Marines show up and turn tide.
>Hive Tyrant turns up and massacres marines.
>Lone marine survivor swears to avenge battle bruthas.
>Marine promoted to vet or some shit.
>Fancy marines fight tyrant in big boss battle
>Aforementioned lone marine gets the kill
>Guardsman sidekick helped but gets minor credit

That's what Hollyweird would do.

I would do Admech vs nids to showcase the eccentricities of 40k tech. Dragoons hunting down carnies with taser lances would be top tier. Kastelan's pounding tyrant guard would also be great. It wouldn't get made because there's little opportunity for muh representation.
>>
>>62481451
So you get your start of movie exposition about how there are anomalous reports of dead worlds showing up, Varnak does his thing and argues with dudes to send out research teams and find out what's going on.

Get some cold cuts to ships launching, montage of imagery of dead worlds and AdMech dudes walking around the wasteland with clicking baroque sensors and machinery breathing in bubble-head suits full of tubes, just really heavy thick claustrophobic industrial atmosphere like the early scenes of the first couple Alien films.

"We've found nothing." "Very well, send the reports." But you know, add some spice to the dialogue, make it sound AdMechy and put a little bit of tension in there between Varnak and one of his subordinates, who will be an important action guy later when the combat hits.

Cut to Holy Terra. Meet Inquisitor Kryptman, receiving commendations from the Inquisitorial Conclave for his recent successes in dealing with the Macharian Heresies. He has a private conversation with some other Inquisitor that fleshes out his character a little bit, and uses a line in the vague area of "something about the edge of the galaxy drives men mad" referring to the way the Macharian Crusades fell apart upon Macharius reaching the galactic rim, and so forth, the other Inquisitor tips Kryptman off that he's received strange reports from the Eastern Fringe about dead worlds.

Introduce Kryptman's supporting cast, his acolytes and so forth, you get to be creative and colourful here because Inquisitorial retinues can be pretty much absolutely anything and Kryptman's has never been described in canon. Give a sexy female lead a role here as his second-in-command or something, some gruff badass hunter guy like the dude from Jurassic Park as one of his bodyguards. Just show them doing some sort of business in the solar system that establishes their character and their competence, nothing too involved but a short scene with a bit of danger (cont)
>>
>>62481535
End scene with them getting the call back from Kryptman to meet him.

Cut to him in some gothic library poring over dusty reports surrounded by scribes and underlings, tracing the pattern of dead worlds on the Eastern Fringe, and realizing something is happening. He meets up with his crew, has a short bit of exposition, they go to requisition a ship from the conclave and head off towards Tyran.

Ominous mostly oblique angle shots of organic ships moving through the blackness of space, not fully shown in view.

Cut back to Tyran, emergency report interrupts Magos Varnak who was in the middle of something, they found a missing Explorator ship that had been hulked and destroyed outside the system. As he's in the command & control room dealing with the reports they get the alert that something has appeared on the edge of the system, the Hive Fleet has arrived. The Magos has them prepare his ship. The tension starts amping up, the pace gets a little faster and more frantic from here on out, the musical score is still brooding but it increases tempo and intensity a bit.

Lots of technical shots of ship launch prep, servitors clicking at dataslates, tread-haulers moving giant pipes and cables around, enginseers praying to plasma engines, very atmospheric once again.

You have the seen in space where Varnak's ship approaches the cloud at the edge of the system, does some scans and whatnot, there's the first real shots of the Tyranid ships but they still haven't quite shown off their full nature yet, keep them mostly lowkey with threatening mouthparts and tentacles and such still retracted inside the shells.

Varnak's ship gets hit by the spore mine, have a whole crisis scene of stuff blowing up, damage control, people getting injured, killed, sucked out of breaches in the hull, lots of terror and flashing red lights.

Cut to the Tyran control center again, static garbled reports that the unidentified entities are hostile, prepare defenses. (cont)

gay space marines mourning the loss of their butt-buddies

lots of crying and necrophilia until they turn to slaanesh and get buttfucked for all eternity

>>62481603
Montage of Guardsmen setting up the barricades, Skitarii marching into positions in lock step, giant orbital defense lasers being angled up at the sky, electro-priests chanting, robots being armed as data-priests perform their rites of awakening, all as a storm starts brewing in the distance with thunder and lightning.

Cut back to Varnak's ship, things have quieted down a bit, some underling tells him it's been X number of hours and they are back in orbit, medicae teams meet them at the shuttle to transport him down. As their dropping into atmosphere, the Tyranid craft on their tail reach the three defense ships and you get your first real space combat, but it's mostly shown in jump cuts between other things happening with Varnak barking orders and chaos and confusion. By the time he gets back groundside the orbital defense lasers are firing and everyone is looking up at the sky as the storm breaks and starts pouring rain. You see the first mycetic spores drop into the ocean and get a "they are coming" type of line, then the screen goes black.

1 YEAR LATER

Warp dream sequence of Kryptman aboard his vessel, explains the basics of warp travel and the immaterium and how the dreams affect people. He gets woken up by his sexy aide when she announces they'll soon be translating back to realspace.

Get the whole crew on the bridge when they arrive. The initial confusion and foreboding when they find a completely dead, dry system with no ocean planet. Investigations of the dead frozen ships in orbit. Kryptman's team setting down on the giant glass crater where the research station was. They finally dig out the Codex from the boreshaft and take it to a datascreen to watch.

Start the initial minute with grainy choppy footage and cutting to the reactions of the Inquisitors team, then it transitions from the Codex footage back into the Fall of Tyran in real time. (cont)
>>
>>62481672
Helm's Deep tier total war battle scene takes up the next 20 minutes of the film at least, this is where the movie blows its fucking load. Pouring rain, flashing thunder and lightning, giant screeching Tyranid monsters rampaging up out of the ocean smashing through the electric fences and breaching the gunlines, Skitarii fighting hormagaunts, Guardsmen manning the bastions shouting orders and fighting off Gargoyles, spore mines hitting dudes and melting them into acid goop, Kataphrons blowing off Carnifexes heads with fuck-off huge plasma culverin blasts.

The second-in-command Magos inside the halls, readying his war cohort, raising their voices in psalms to the Omnissiah as he opens the gates and charges out into the battle, recreate that whole scene from the AdMech Codex where a bunch of electro-priests fight a Trygon.

Magos Varnak in the control room getting reports of the orbital laser batteries going down, blast doors getting breached and bypassed, invaders running amok through the installation, the terrible death scene montage of everyone getting overrun, the second-in-command magos has some badass death scene where he takes a huge beast out with him, genestealers tearing through the door to the control room.

Perspective finally cuts back to Kryptman and co. watching the grainy footage as Varnak says his famous last words about the Tyranids covering the planet and "Death! By the Machine God, Death is here!"

Cut back to him in real time one last time as the background noise fades out and is replaced by the music peaking as he fights off genestealers but is quickly torn apart after slaying one or two of them, slamming his bionic fist down on the self-destruct button as he falls. There's no sound as you zoom out to the nuclear detonation, just sad choir music and light obliterating everything.

Kryptman again, realizes they need to warn the Imperium, has a frantic scene with the astropath where the Shadow in the Warp is discovered/explained (cont)

They chart a course for Thandros.

Kryptman's ship arrives only to find out the Tyranids beat them here first. Unlike in the canon, though, when they board the installation on the desperate mission to patch in to the telepathic matrix and send a message, this time there were genestealers and beasts left behind.

You get a final crazy tense ending scene with Kryptman's crew fighting their way through the tunnels of the Thandros installation escorting the Astropath and the tech-guy to patch them in as his retinue of acolyte badasses get to show off and/or die horribly, sealing doors behind them as they go in a Space Hulk-esque, Aliens-esque chase/fight into the comms center. Finally cools down and ends with them trapping a bunch of Tyranids in a hallway and incinerating them with meltabombs.

Kryptman gets his message out as the camera pans out.

End movie with Chief Librarian Tigurius meditating in the Fortress of Hera, waking up and calling for a serf. "Fetch me Lord Calgar."
>>
>>62481830
That was Fall of Tyran.

Movie #2 is just called Behemoth.

Opens with some horrific dark chaotic scene of miners in the tunnels of Thandros III getting butchered as some teenage kid carrying his little siblings is escaping to the refugee shuttles, he parents get slaughtered in front of him as the ramp closes and leaves them behind. He wakes up, it was a nightmare/memory, he's now in the PDF barracks on Macragge. His CO wakes up his unit and informs them that he has received orders from Lord Macragge to transfer their unit to the spaceport and start preparing for relocation to another outpost in the system.

Cut to the Imperial Navy HQ at Bakka, war room with high ranking admirals and such going over the report from Kryptman, organizing the fleet to reinforce Ultramar.

Scenes of Ultramarines, Kryptman arriving, meeting Marneus Calgar, they move into a war room, the initial explanations/exposition, recap of last movies events, some of the same grainy footage from the Varnak Codex is shown.

"The enemy fleet has been dubbed 'Behemoth' by the High Lords."

Kryptman requests that his team is placed on the advance vessels which will be first to intercept the Hive Fleet so he can gather more data. His crew thinks he's fucking crazy but they agree.

Meet an Ultramarines Captain prepping his Strike Cruisers for war. Lots of atmospheric shots. The Captain explains that he was recently in a skirmish with Ork pirates outside the system and maybe the Tyranids would run into them and save everyone a lot of trouble before they get here.

If the movie can fit it, totally have the fucking battle scene of the Hive Fleet and Ork ships meeting in deep space. It ends with the Orks getting overrun and the Hive Fleet drifting ominously onward through the dark, of course, but let the Orks kick some ass.

Cut to Calth, a Commissar preparing his men in the frozen wastes, preaching a sermon about slaying the xenos. Teen boys regiment from the first scene is present. (cont)
>>
A bunch of guardsmen doing guardsmen things
>>
>>62481966
First space engagement between the Tyranids and the Ultramarines as the begin the long hit-and-run fall back from the system's edge. Tension between Kryptman and the Captain as he tries to suggest alternate courses of action based on his observations of the Tyranids so far vs what the Codex Astartes dictates, so on, so forth.

At some point they probably get hit with boarding craft and nids are running amok on the ship, a Lictor maybe, give Kryptman's crew something to do.

They're slowly forced back, you see Prandium invaded, Kryptman watches from the observation port sadly as they see the world transformed and devoured over a series of days cut down into short montage cuts as the action lulls in the middle of the film and you get all the slow talking moments and emotional development handled.

Things pick up again when the Calth tendril arrives. You get a scene from the perspective of the young boy and his regiment fighting as the nids land, they're initially triumphant after a hard battle but then a brutally intimidating Carnifex arrives and roars as the second wave hits.

Cut back to space battles again as the main Ultramarine fleet meets up with the Strike Cruiser and they fall back fighting to Macragge, Kryptman has finally identified the way certain ships seem to disrupt the cohesion when they're destroyed as the whole concept of Synapse creatures is uncovered, alerts Calgar of this and they hatch a plan to change the tides as they are horrendously outnumbered and still haven't heard from the Fleet from Bakka. (cont)

3 part franchise akin to LOTR covering a stripped down plot of the Horus heresy.
Whether to include an unreliable narrator is up in the air. I think it would just be better to only includes portions that probably/definitely happened.
Plus that right there will make it easier to leave things on the cutting room floor.
>>

>>62482045
Fuck no. The Tyranid invasion can be taken as an attack on immigration.

40K is already seen as a lure hobby for racists. The climate is not good for that kind of story. Go with Marines vs Chaos or anything with the T'au.
>>
>>62482045
Climactic end sequence, you get the daring moves by the Ultramarine fleet against the nids in orbit over Macragge taking down the major Hive Ship, cutting back and forth to the Battle of Calth Round 2 where Old One Eye is now leading the charge and the Guard are getting absolutely massacred, protag guard kid barely survives, is saved by his Commissar from OOE bearing down on him only for the Commissar to drop his guard when he turns to help the kid up and OOE regenerates and stands back up and picks the commissar up his his claw. Commissar goes out with the heroic plasma pistol overcharge in the eye, detonation blasts half OOEs face off and gives him his name, but it doesn't take him out, as he's staggering around the protag kid unloads his gun into the smoking eye socket and causes OOE to stagger onto thin ice and fall through.

Meanwhile a bunch of boarding action fights aboard space ships are happening, Calgar's bold breakthrough tactic works and they down the Hive Ship, celebrations erupt as it convulses falling through the atmosphere onto Macragge to die on the polar ice fields. Ultramarines start winning in space against the uncoordinated swarm, and the bridge reports that the fleet from Bakka has arrived on the system's edge.

Movie ends with the panicked report from the ground that the nids aboard the Hive Ship didn't die on impact and an impossibly huge ground swarm is emerging from the carcass and flooding across the polar fields towards the power stations for the orbital defense lasers.

Then the more panicked report that the report for the Bakka fleet was a mistake, and it was actually the second tendril of Behemoth arriving.

Calgar "prepare drop pods".

>>
>>62482117
Movie 3 is Battle For Macragge, it all pretty much writes itself from here. You start big with the Titan Legions clashing with the ground swarms as they race to the poles, the Ultramarines constant strike-and-fade tactics as they drop behind the swarms to pull them back, fight and retreat, rinse and repeat to buy time, eventually culminating in the Battle of Cold Steel Ridge where you get Calgar vs the Swarmlord, meanwhile you've still got the fleets holding out in space completely surrounded.

After Calgar is wounded and returns to his ship, he takes over the space battle again while the Tyranids hit the installations and you get the First Company Terminators holding out until the fleet from Bakka can arrive.

This eventually happens of course, there's the emotional high when the cavalry arrives right as everything seems darkest, and then you get the Battle of Circe and the death of the Astra Dominus (I believe that's the name of the big battleship that implodes its Warp Engines and sucks most of the Hive Fleet into the Warp).

You can intersperse with the fighting at the Spaceport as needed for some more Guardsmen action. Kryptman's cast may or may not be needed in this movie beyond a few cameo scenes.

Finally you have the 4th company racing to relieve the 1st after the space battle is concluded, the fight with the Hive Tyrant in the installation, and the finding of the Terminators all dead standing back to back around the generators.

Wrap up at the end with Magos Biologis reports on the Tyranids, High Lords discussing the event and saying something like "it was an anomalous occurrence, we must have exterminated the whole species, commend the Ultramarines", Chaplain Cassius making a speech at the funeral for the fallen of the Chapter, and for the Grand Admiral of the Bakka Fleet who sacrificed himself to win the space battle, Inquisitor Kryptman's goodbye and promises to keep an eye out because he doesn't think this is over.

A Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers style war flick. Main cast are a Guard unit. Focus is on their character interactions as they infiltrate behind enemy lines to track down some McGuffin. This keeps the cast small and relatable, and keeps the budget under control. Enemies are Tyranids, as space bugs are standard fare for the scifi genre. Glorious last stand as they try to exfiltrate with the McGuffin. Space Marines come in to save them ex machina style.

The whole point would be to make a good 40K flick that a general audience can enjoy.
>>
Literally just the plot of the space marine game with no particular attention payed to the lore of the setting in any meaningful way, lots of plot holes, and shitty attempts at nods to lore that fall flat.

And at the end, strong independent womyn imperial guard officer solo kills the chaos lord and berates the ultramarines on their toxic masculinity.

I dont have it fully thought out but
>opening: in an imperial cathedral with the protagonist (probably an inquisitor) being blessed. The cathedral is beyond emmaculate
>juxtapose the cathedral by having the protagonist go down to a hive world
>the conflict should spend most of the movie being a looming threat in the background while the protagonist tries desperate to figure out what it is and how to stop it (like a gene cult, chaos cult, ork spores) but his/her efforts are futile
>action scenes are just protagonist + supporting characters running for their lives from a seemingly unstoppable enemy
>final scenes are space marines making short work of the baddies is spectacular fashion. This part should show that, while life in the imperium is oppressive and harsh, there is a reason to believe in the emperor

BoM is so great because it comes as the climatic battle against a whole new threat nobody understood or could stop. At this point the tyranids felt like the revelation of some cosmic horror of unthinkable scale and the movie could easily exploit this aspect to bring something beyond "big space bugs eating things".

Also the whole Red Thirst thing means you have to explain a lot of elements involving Chaos and the Horus Heresy, which have nothing to do with the tyranid threat itself. Tyranids aren't a great pretext to introduce the Blood Angels are, while the Battle for Macragge has been one of the cornerstones of 40k Ultramarines for litteraly decades.

It's a TV show based around An Inquisitor / Rogue Trader buddy-cop as they go from world to world ala-Star Trek Style - The Rogue's Writ largely used to get access to the planet and the Inquisitor dealing with some internal heretical shit. They pick up an Agri-World peasant that joins along acting as the viewers exposition to some of the more weird things.

The main bad guy is a Mechanicus Fabricator trying to do the "Secrets of the Necrons" thing and waking up tomb worlds.

It's a bit of a horror-of-the week deal eventually feeding into a tyranid invasion (Beep Boop [I was actually the good guy all along] Beep Boop). The real show doesn't start until its spin off shows: Angels of Death: A show focused on an anti-chaos chapter and Squad 41: Band of Brothers in the Tyranid war.

Sure they are, but I'm talking about how they were perceived by the imperial authorities. Even by the standards of 40k the scale of the attack was pretty huge, everybody was shitting their pants. The Imperium discovered a new kind of horror with Tyranids and they didn't know how to stop them. When the DoB happened the Imperium already knew a lot of things about the enemy, the overall atmosphere wouldn't be the same.

The Gaunt's Ghosts series, specifically Necropolis, The Guns of Tanith and Sabbat Martyr are perfect intros to the Imperium/Chaos wars of the setting. Alternatively, I would make a movie in the style of Band of Brothers following a company in an Elysian regiment dropped in to fight a campaign against Orks. Badass guardsmen, aliens that have motives that aren't as esoteric as the Eldar and that appeal to normies because of the traditional man vs beast trope.

I was thinking of an Invasion of the Bodysnatchers-type of film with a chaos cult slowly seeping into the upper echelons of a hive city and the protag is a young Arbites recruit who is paranoid on who is or isn't corrupted by chaos and ends with a Re:Zero ep 15 type ending where he looks up at the sky seeing a lone battle barge, thinking it's going to save him but it's actually an Inquisition ship that performs an exterminatus on the planet, queue sad violins and him falling to the despair of chaos near the end

For a book maybe GSC are better to get the intrigue and characterization.

For a movie with limited screen time, Tyranids are the perfect enemy, and would look incredible fully animated on the big screen tearing ass around at 60mph and leaping 20 feet, Carnifexes smashing shit around and roaring, all the gribbly grisly detail on the high-res Tyranid artwork that you lose on the models would stand out in live-action and make them look amazing, not to mention terrifying.

Dudes with guns fighting other dudes with guns is not as cool as dudes with guns fighting ferocious screaming monsters with massive claws sprinting around at full pelt.

Story is told from the point of view of an imperial gaurdsman borrows some stuff from dawn of war and space marine in that it's orks and chaos, first gives a brief history of the imperium, rise of the emperor, the primarchs and the horus heresy and the spreading into space. Gaurdsman is on a world besieged by orks, gives brief description of orks and that there are other xenos out there, gaurdsmans legion is clearing out settlements over run by orks platoon is almost overrun but arrival of space marines stops that. Learn that the orks are being manipulated by Chaos as a distraction so the CM can get a relic on the planet that belonged to the SM Chapter and that the chapter is willing to preform exterminatus than have the relic fall into chaos hands or the planet fall to the orks. the IG and SM team up and make way to the temple we see character interaction the view points of the SM and the life of the imperial citizens while they try to recover the artifact. Chaos Gaurdsman have infiltrated the IG and try to sabotage the mission the IG narrating is promoted to lieutenant after the previous lieutenant sacrifices himself to stop the traitoirs.

Final battle is three way battle as the orks find out they have been tricked and want the shiny bitz all for themselves, the Chaos leader is killed and the ork warboss squares off and gets the upper hand on the space marine captain but the lietenant jumps on the back of the war boss and plunges a grenade into an opening in his armor losing his hand in the process it distracts the ork warboss long enough for the SM captain to finish him off. artifact is recovered planet is spared jump to 20 years later the liutenant has become a grizzled Komissar with a robotic claw hand and is leading his troops alongside space marines on a different world against Tyranids yelling " GLORY FOR THE FIRST MAN TO DIE"

>What’s your plot for a Warhammer 40000 movie?
story takes place on an ex-imperial world that have just joined The dominion
it's a horror and it mostly happens in the catacombs beneath the capital city
here we meet a group of ordinary human traitors - some from PDF some civilians who were hiding beneath the surface during the space battle
the action starts when they realise that a single space marine survived his drop pod crushing trough the planet surface - they try to run but the entrance is sealed so now they have to kill or contain the angle of death or die trying

we never hear the SM speak as his helmet is damaged (he takes his helmet off to eat the brains of his captives but we never see his face and later on it breaks open during the final fight showing his mouth but it doeas so only so the SM can spit acid) and we do not know his chapter as the outside of his armor is scorched by fire

at some point in the story a squad of Tau joins the traitors and together suffering almost 100% casualties they bring the SM down by blowing up one of the underground reactors

the movie ends with the surviving humans being sent to concentration camp as their planet is designed to be resettled by the kroot

you have to give some sort of history to the imperium otherwise most of the population who go into the movie will have no idea what you are talking about and that is your target audience. No matter how hard you aim it for the diehard fans if you alienate the rest of the public your movie is a flop cause critics will pan it for not making any sense and anyone interested will not make heads or tails of what the imperium is what it stands for and how we got here. The orks are not always a big bad they are easily manipulated by alot of races in 40k lore they can work as secondary villains. Look at lord of the rings they dont just jump into the ring they give a brief history of the ring what it was forged for and how it was lost, the orcs were not the main villains sauron was behind the scenes manipulating them.

no sir you are bad at this you have no idea how movies work
>>
>>62488521
>you have to give some sort of history to the imperium
No, you don't. Show, don't tell. The Horus Heresy and all that shit is COMPLETELY irrelevant to telling a 40k story involving marines fighting orks, for example. You immerse your audience in the environment and let them learn about it through the current events as they happen. Starting off with a bunch of backstory exposition shit is literally like Known Pitfalls Of Shitty Amateur Writers 101. You're a fucking moron.
>>
>>62488690
This anon has good sense.
Problem is the nerdrage of the fanbase would be immense.
I personally think that the enemies should go from more "human" to less human the more the franchise goes.
Like you start with Orks, and if they are popular they can even come back as freebotas on our side. Same some Eldar cameo until the DE come out.
Then shit like the necron, then Tyranids.
You can put Chaos before tyranids but for sure after normal mariens are introduced, and not in the same fucking movie. It must be a shock.
Also, start small. As said above, a SW in the making, or maybe a tempestus scion. With the latter, you have the esxcuse to be assigned to babysit guard and inquisition so you have an excuse to see a lot in the galaxy. Also Marines should be distant, not the focus because (1) difficult to represent (2) too different in the mindset to be protagonists.

>Has one space marine on his ship hitching a ride after a warp accident
>One of the largest iron producers in the galaxy
>Either from a meteor impact or ancient weaponry, part of the world's core is exposed along the equator and is being mined directly
>Main human habitation is at a massive space elevator at the south pole
>Inquisitor docks his ship there, meets with the planetary governer
>Takes his men north to the mine where dark age tech has been discovered by cultists
>Gets in a fight with the locals
>Gets word an eldar fleet has entered the system
>Gets shot from behind by a Gravitational Beam Emitter built into the top of the space elevator
>The governer was also a cultist
>The station's machine spirit is a daemon
>Has to Mad Max that shit back halfway around the world to storm the elevator
>Slaughter everyone in their path
>Kick in the door to the gun station
>Kill the governor, blow the control system into space

Man somebody screencap this whole chain and pitch it to him, I bet that big lovable nerd is already into Warhammer.
>>
>>62480736

I was about to say this. 15 Hours would make a perfect movie as it combines the simplicity of Imperium versus Orks and can ease the normies into the culture of 40k.

With that said, I would probably pull a Marvel and set an entire series of movies just based around the Armaggedon wars following different factions and their interactions.
>>
>>62489770
15 hours doesn't quite have enough content for a movie, or at least not a movie that does enough uniquely 40k stuff to be worth making, but it would make a good introductory short, like 20-30 minutes.

Guard are not really dripping with 40k aesthetic in most senses. To really capture the universe for a completely new person, you need the crazy elements, you need AdMech, you need Titans, you need mutants, aliens, psychic powers. Just Orks vs WW2 guys with laser rifles is not enough, not even close.

An Ork invasion from the perspective of some random people living on an agriworld as they desperately try to stay alive while angels and monsters destroy everything the know. The cinematography is mostly at eye level with the protags so we can see the sheer size of the marines, the Orks, and the battle rushing past and all around them, including PDF scrambling with Las fire snapping across the screen. The end is they eventually make it to an evac ship and we see the full scale of the invasion as the the ship screams to the sky.

>A bunch of exiled Necromundan gangers, sick of the industrial deathtrap of a planet they live on, attempt to escape, knowing that somewhere, ANYWHERE has to be better than Necromunda.
>Their escape attempts catch the eye of Lord Helmawr, who is seeing the unintended amounts of destruction these radicals are causing, and sets a crack team of enforcers to crack their skulls.
>As the story goes on, allies come and go, the motives for their escape become apparent, and a Chaos Cult starts to rear it's head, eventually leading to them being so close to escape, but faced with the choice of decide between escape or killing the cult before they summon a huge army of daemons.
>They choose to kill the cult, using the allies they gained across their escape attempts to wage a bloody battle against the cult. A good few characters, both main and supporting cast, take hits, but they manage to stop the ritual by rigging the sub-sector to blow.
>However, a Keeper of Secrets emerges from the ruins, and the protags are forced to flee. At this point, the enforcers have caught up to them, but before they can beat the protags senseless, the Keeper descends on them with the frenzy of 1000 chimps.
>Using this as an opportunity, the gangers sneak into an abandoned Guilder storehouse and steal some high level ordinance, including an excavation automata, and proceed to fight the Keeper, only to get pummeled.
>Before the Keeper can find new ways to "flay them pretty", one of the gangers unleashes a powerful wave of psychic force, banishing the Keeper from reality.
>In the end, the other protags are re-entered into their houses, whilst the one who unleashed the psychic blast is brought onto a Blackship, getting the freedom they wanted, in a way.

And that is the 40k movie I would make.

I've thought about this quite a bit and am under the impression that it is impossible save for maybe one or two specific scenarios:

>a Dark Angels Deathwing Terminator team is sent to a Space Hulk to wipe out genestealers. Play it as one of those "commando team goes into spooky place, shoots baddies, but end up dying" horror-action movies we had back in early 2000s(think Resident Evil, Quarantine, DOOM, ect). Inclusion of D-Rok's Get Outta My Way is mandatory, even if it's only for the credits.

Other than that, impossible. There's too much lore and intricacies to cram into a movie or even a TV show, because you mention one thing off-hand and you have to sit the audience down for an hour to explain it and the five hundred other things connected to it. And if you dont do this, you'll get mass confusion:

>The Great Crusade? They're Christians? This is really insensitive!
>Why are the giant robot men fighting other giant robot men?(talking about chaos marines and space marines)
>Where are all the Ork women?
>So Satan is real in this movie? There's demons everywhere! I can't wait to hear the Amazing Atheist tear this movie apart for being Christian propaganda!
>Eldar and Dark Eldar are TOOOTALLY metaphors for how homos are destroying society. No man is supposed to be that scrawny and faggy looking!
>Oh my god, all of their tech sucks, why not, like, invent new stuff!?!?

And then Niel DeGrasse Tyson would come on to some talk show or podcast and talk about how unrealistic the science is in the movie and all of the comments will be like "haha Warlord In The Year Four Thousand got TORN APART by BASED Black Science Man!"

And so on.

Honestly hope no 40k movie ever happens. Even if it did, no feasible and reasonable budget would be able to do it justice.

A Band of Brothers style Guardsman story simply show from the perspective of one guardsman from recruitment at the age of 16 his training, to his first deployment where they are beset by demons traveling to their destination. Cue doom 4 levels of fuckery aboard the ship where the guardsmen fight for their lives against the onslaught of demons. After Successfully exiting the warp the demon simply disappear after entering real space with all the gore and remnants of their assault left over. The command tells the men to check the ship for any remaining enemies or possible cultists. Prologue over, into the first act. The ship lands on the planet that is being assaulted by orkz. Cue D day saving private ryan levels of fucked. Culminating in the Protagonist about to be crushed by a deff dread only to be saved by a Chimera firing a hunter killer rocket to kill the damn thing. Main Protag books it to the safety of the chimera they book it further into the warzone. Suddenly the movie turns into FURY as the guardsman becomes a defacto replacement for the driver of the chimera as the previous one was killed by a killa kan getting lucky with a grotzooka. The battle continues as the chimera and crew meet up with other mobile armor to assault the main stronghold of Orkz. They charge headlong into the front lines with a crew of more guardsman picked up along the way. Resolving in the warboss getting completely destroyed by a rogue basilisk shell that kill nearly all the guardsmen in the vicinity save for our protag who only survived due to having the chimera getting stuck head first in a large trench. He meets back up with the battalion after they send in reinforcements to make sure the orkz are finished. He's taken back to the command where he is interrogated as to how he survived under suspicion of cowardice. He is absolved due his accounts of what happened, but is then assigned to a scout squad as he has an apparent knack with survival and resourcefulness. part 1
>>
>>62499452
part 2. After being assigned to the squad it's found that Eldar have landed on the other side of the planet and his squad is being sent to observe their movements as it is a singular ship only big enough for a small team. Turns out this group is trying to reactivate a webway portal to bring in a larger force for some unknown reason. They hop inside a valkyrie and are relatively unscathed due to the obliteration of the warboss previously mentioned. The main protag reflects on this while his squad talks about the mission. The valkyrie lands and turns out one of the eldar found out they were coming. Turns out that one eldar us a Striking scorpion and his is determined to kill these guardsman so they can't find out what the eldar are up to. The movie then turns into Predator until the Scorpion is finally killed thanks to the main protag and sniper blowing his head off with a lucky longlas round to the eye. These two continue on their mission to observe the eldar and report back. They find out the plans of the eldar of getting the webway fixed and report back to the main force. A ranger overhear them reporting back and start shooting at them inside of the city the webway is hidden in. The movie suddenly becomes Enemy at The Gates as the ranger is hunting them and they attempting to kill this bastard and avoid getting caught in the inevitable shitstorm that's about to warp into the planet with no support. The main character manages to plant a a longlas blast thru the neck of the ranger at the cost of the other guardsman getting killed. The main protag only manages this as he was thought dead from a previous shot by the ranger and was under the dead body of his fellow squadmate. He watches from a distance as the entire area where the webway was located is decimated by bombardment and is picked up later. On the valkrie he is asked by one of the heavy bolter crewman how he survived and what his name is. He sits up and simply says Ollanius Pius. Cue credits.

Sort of this, sans tau. I would combine the sole SM with the genestealer cult vibe. Humans gets caught up in a conflict between SM and genestealer cult that starts to tilt, trying their best to stay out of the way of the chaos. The SM’s and more obviously nidlike cultists only are seen in brief flashes in a sort of clover field style survive-the-event as the humans scamper around. When it’s done the humans are cornered by a single terminator who hunts them like, well, the terminator, and seems to be convinced they’ve got tainted blood. The whole time they’re questioning if they actually have Xenos blood while trying and frequently failing to take down the injured termie. Ultimately they should fail, but not before somehow establishing that they aren’t infected, but knowing Hollywood the last survivors manage to kill the terminator with a sharpened pipe to the neck or something, and during the last shot they ominously imply the survivor was a genestealer all along(!)
>>
>>62499339
Eh I’m sure a cultist sorcerer would be fine in the opening stages of an incursion. Just another skull for the throne after the uprising begins.

And I was thinking more like Dread or 300/ immortals.

The comic "Damnation Crusade" would make for an excellent WH40k movie.

MC lives on a boring frontier world, which is slowly being colonized. As a young militia soldier, he spends most of his days on guard duty, as there is a small ork presence that occasionally needs to be culled. One day, MC is on his first offensive mission against the orks with his mentor, a grizzled veteran of the guard. Everything goes as planned at first, but they then discover a crashed ship, and start to explore it. Just after discovering a strange artifact, orcs rapidly come in greater than expected numbers and surround them. They make their way back to the colony with heavy losses, only being saved by the appearance of a low ranking inquisitor and some mysterious forces(eldar). MC is whisked away to the closet major imperial world, a hiveworld, where he is forced to testify on the artifact that he found, and sees some space marines. MC goes back with an inquisitor and a small detachment of guardsmen to quell the ork presence. When they arrive at the colony, things have gone to shit, the orks are out of control and entire outposts keep vanishing with their occupants brutally eviscerated. MC and the troops deploy for some larger battles against the orcs, and have manage to stem the tide, but are being slowly an surely pushed back. MC tags along to help the inquisitor and his troops find the crashed ship + artifact, and encounter an orc warboss, who kills the inquisitor and would kill the MC but for eldar interruption. The warboss is dead, along with most of the heavy orc war machines, but suddenly chaos marines show up. The chaos marines wreck shit and the MC barely escapes with the aid of his old mentor, leaving the Eldar to fight it out.
>>
>>62514249

Back home, recuperating, the Eldar show up and tell the humans that they need to assault a ruined temple where the chaos marines have moved the artifact, which was a mcguffin that was shot down by the eldar. Chaos has been supporting the ork insurrection from the shadows to weaken the planet enough for a demon summoning ritual to take place, and the eldar are here to stop it., but they don't have the numbers. As teh humans consider whether or not to trust the eldar, word coems that chaos has butchered the MCs home town (+love interst?) and made ritual sacrifices out of them. The final attack starts, a joint Eldar+Guard offensive on the chaos temple, with orcs as a 3rd participant. Just when it looks like things are going to shit, Spehss Muhreens show up and even things out. The battle is a pyrrhic victory as the mcguffin is stolen by the eldar, who promptly blast off (all according to plan). In the end, the MC is betrayed by his old guardsman mentor, who was a follower of chaos all along. With civilization on the planet in ruins, the MC is recruited to join the space marine chapter that (sort of) saved the day.

40k Orks are pretty different from generic fantasy orcs though.

I think either Orks or Tyranids are the best choice. Chaos isn't different enough, it's either evil spikey humans or generic helldaemons like from doom or zombies which everyone has seen a billion times.

You know they would never, ever do Slaanesh, it would be either Khorne or Nurgle.

Anon they made 8 films (soon to be 9) off a 11,000 word short story.

I'm pretty sure "Not enough content" isn't a problem for book to movie adaptations, especially since movies need to fill dead air for 10-20 seconds instead of a single line in a book, not to mention establishing shots, and general pacing.

(The movie/short story in question was Children of the Corn, though you could apply this to any of Steven King's short stories.)

I'd say keep it small and contained, have the movie take place on a space hulk, say one comes out of the warp and a small team of adtech and elite storm troopers are sent in to investigate the hulk as it comes out if warp just above a hive world, focus on the atmosphere and mystery of what the hulk is and don't try and explain all 40k in this movie, this isn't isn't about explaining the entire universe just one nano corner of it, make it a survival horror movie as mutants, posted and demons ambush the survey team and reveal that they plan to crash the hulk into the planet and activate its warp drive to yank it into the warp, making the goal much more bigger than merely surviving, or you can just go with the get off the ship alive before it leaps back into the warp, as they explore they find out more about the hulk and how it's basically a trap for lure victims in and then leap I to the warp, think ghost ship meets aliens 2

Do the (I think 3rd?) Gaunts Ghosts book, the siege of Vervenhive. You have a good introduction to the world and scale, a lot of awesome battle set pieces, a good intro to characters, good TV delineations for next episode

From there you can prequel, sequel, do movie spinoffs with Ciaphas Cain as >>62479747 suggests

Then you can keep expanding it out like an octopus throughout the Imperium to all the different parts, using different sides to introduce new foes I.e Cain vs Nids goes to >>62480656 from there you can do both SM and Mechanicus
>>
>>62481500
You can slam every level of "muh representation" you want in there

It would follow a squad of guardsmen around on the first day of a campaign.
Mix of new and older gaurds as well as a commissar.
Movie opens with a lord of war style tracking shot of a lazgun getting fixed up and passed on to a conscript.
The movie would like end with the last surviving rookie taking a krack bomb off of the dieing commissar and changing a chaos marine captain. He'd bait the captain into impaling him only to use the opportunity to attach the hidden krack bomb to his chest. Both die and the film time skips to a new squad wandering though the wreckage of the battle, one of the new squad loots a lazgun off the body and the film ends with a tracking shot of the lazgun.
