Adorkable Dragon II: Electric Boogaloo

Previous Thread: >>62839750

The gist: Young Dragon flies down to a village, but is very new at being a dragon and has no idea what to do.
Turns out to be utterly harmless and, over time, becomes a town staple obsessed with Human Culture.

Thread topic starters:
>How would she interact with the townsfolk in day to day life?
>How would other dragons react if they found out? Would they ignore the small town, or see it as an affront to dragonkind?
>Given that she enjoys humanoids, would she ever be able to harm other humanoids who may attack her village, given that she was taught hurting others is wrong?

Pic related is from last thread's Drawfag

I see no such thing drawn here.

Did not expect a new thread. felt like we tapped out on a majority of good ideas and plot hooks last time. Then again it's late at night, maybe in the morning I might even feel up to doing a new picture. Unlikely though.

>>62924090
Darn.
If this one dies, we can wait a week or so and try again, but I figured I'd open the door since the original attempt at a thread 2 was pruned immediately.

Well, either way I've enjoyed your art so far and will be hoping you make more sooner or later

TQ3: Getting the draco-dork to hurt folks would be a character arc in and of itself. would probably have to be introduced early. maybe accidentally scares off a scouting band of bandits the first time, but then has to watch the town fortify itself, the villagers absolutely terrified because they know the bandits will be back in larger numbers.

the villagers, from the impression I'm getting, have no reason to think the dragon would really be capable of violence, though it could be a potential source of conflict with the dragon just wanting everyone to get along, lotta ways this could play out

Thoughts?

"Nope"

>Que a Disney-esque musical number where, in the first half, she is singing happily about lessons learned with Humans and Dragons.
>Midpoint of song has the dragons telling her she should rule over/enslave/eat her villagers to be a true dragon
>She is now torn in a twofold song by the dragons and the villagers.
>Song ends with her broken down and struggling to choose between her human friends or her dragon family.

I had the same feeling last night, and am not sure how much I may be able to contribute, but I’ll see what I’ve got.

>>62924932
The idea of violence in this setting and of our dorkgon having to commit acts of violence is interesting. With her being so dopey and optimistic, and with how well she’s been treated and how much she idolizes the mortals she’s taken to living with, I almost think that she considers violence and evil to be solely draconic or monstrous shortcomings that the civilized races lack. Having her realize that they too are capable of nastiness would be an unhappy revelation that would require the support and wisdom of her friends.

I think do think that, given the light-hearted aim of this setting and character, she wouldn’t be forced to do any grievous harm to her town’s enemies, and could frighten them off or scare them straight.

Slitfucking though

>>62928484
I figure that the first time she encounters dragonslayers, they call her things like foul beast, monster, etc, and after she's carefully knocked them unconscious, she takes them in her claws and/or jaws and flies to the town about what to do with them and were they correct about her being evil. Just absolutely distraught.

>>62924977
"The town is kind and helpful, to hurt them would be rude"
>What you're not understanding, Dork, is humans all are food!
>We dragons claim dominion over all that we can see.
>No reason for their living, when they could be feeding me!
>Imagine how it feels, Dork, with them under your claw,
>Their pitiful struggles against you, staring in fearful awe.
>If you were a Real Dragon, they'd cower before your voice!
"If that is what a dragon does..."
"I guess... I have no choice..."
>>
>>62924938
>>62924977
This would be a good mid-campaign story arc. A bunch of “proper” dragons her own age swoop in and she’s excited to show off her town and all she’s learned, but they’re rowdy and brutish and want to get our girl to act more like them. She would have to do some soul-searching and decide what and who she really cares about, and what she wants being a dragon to mean to her.

There was also talk last thread of having our dragon’s ancient, huge mother the “final boss” of the campaign, and making her and her friends defend the worth of everything she’s learned while living in the village.
>>
>>62928556
I can definitely see this setting worked out as a heart-felt Disney style musical.

You’ve got to have the musical number where she’s dancing her way through town singing about all the wonders of the human world as she clumsily breaks things and misinterprets half of what she sees.
>>
>>62929907
I’ll try to come up with some lyrics of my own if I can get some time.

She would likely have a love/hate relationship with the farmers of the area until the animals get used to her presence. I can easily see her trying to understand why she isn’t supposed to eat the chickens straight out of he hen house.

She definitely starts off the story/campaign as a big nuisance, but as things progress she... well she doesn’t necessarily get much smarter but she learns what she should and shouldn’t do, and that doing things the mortal way is generally a lot more productive and sustainable than doing things the standard dragon way.
>>
>>62930961
I can see that. Going off of the last thread, it seems she is spectacularly ignorant of the behaviors of the hominids and only really knowing what a dragon is “supposed” to do.
I get the feeling she is smarter than most people think and is quick to learn whatever she’s facinated with.

Right. She CAN learn, and although she is a bit of a clumsy dope she doesn’t make the same mistakes ALL the time. It’s more like the lives of mortals is so much more complex and interesting than the lives of dragons that she exists in a constant state of amazed and excited bewilderment.

>>Given that she enjoys humanoids, would she ever be able to harm other humanoids who may attack her village, given that she was taught hurting others is wrong?
Sterotype: An evil order paladin (you know the type) intends to slay her at all costs.

Subversion for subversion sake: He is the comic relief.

More serious subversion: He is the serious evil, but working in the shadows and sending underlings to deal with the dragon. Since opossing the entire town (and letting the gods sort them out) is not an option because reasons, he has to use the cunning of his subordinates.

The subordinates are the comic relief.

So we can have 2 big evils opposed to each other, acting not as direct foes but sources of headaches: The dragon mother and the Lord Paladin.

>>62934370
>local beach has been completely glassed
>>
>>62933803
I don’t think that the paladin being evil would really work. Maybe have them be one who is just very stuck in their ways. Him trying to keep e good image would explain why he has to use underlings instead of going the slaying as they wish to be.
I feel the theme would be the conflict between those who wish to change and those who don’t.
The Adorkable dragon and the town are mostly happy with learning from each other while the Mother Dragon and the Paladin refuse to believe the way they were raised and live could be wrong.
>>

>>
I remember in the previous thread it was suggested she would live in a house-barn. How did they get that? Did she order it built, build it herself, or just move into the first large barn they saw?
>>
>>62936229
The town getting together for a house/barn raising in order to house their dragon friend could make for a rather touching sequence.
>>
There are nowhere near enough quests or tales that are lighthearted comedy romps. They always seem to be summed up as “go here, grab this shiny thing, kill those things, stop the horrible thing from happening, the end.”
Is it just too hard keep peoples interest unless something horrible is looming overhead?
>>
>>62936294
That would be nice. It would likely happen around the middle of the tale once the Dragon as established itself as somebody who is a helpful bumbler instead of a general nuisance.
>>
>>62935146
>Mother Dragon and the Paladin refuse to believe the way they were raised and live could be wrong.
If it was a cartoon, the last episode of the season would close out on these two chatting, having found they have common ground on the subject of Young People Today.

Maybe the Paladin's squire could swiftly become one of Dork's best friends.
>>
>>62935551
>>62935453
The relationship between glass and gold is this. You can't just dye the glass to get it stained a color, you actually need to use a metal powder of some sort in the forging process to get a color. Copper oxides for example can give you blue or blueish green, cobalt gives an even richer blue. These days a lot of colors can be developed artificially, however in the old days red was only acheivable with gold. This meant red stained glass in the medieval days was very rare, even up into the late 1800s red stained glass was a huge show of your material wealth. The more gold that was used the richer and deeper the red.

So now when you go into a really old cathedral with original stained glass windows, you can see just how much donations went into it.

So yes, if she found out the relation between gold and red stained glass, she would go nuts. She would probably dump sand into a big crevass, gold bars and then melt away. and make a lair entirely made of red glass
>>
>>62937460
Making a lair out of red stained glass sounds more an action of a greedy ambitious dragon instead of an Adorkable chubby one. Though the image of a dragon lair glittering red from the glass it’s made of is a wonderful image. Let’s have that be what her Mother’s lair looks like.
The power to have all that gold and dust delivered to her and the ability to make it into something incapable of being stolen sounds classically vain and dragonish. Perfect foil to her adorkable daughter.

>>62937406
Perfect endgame: Adorkable Dragon and Squire trick the Mother and Paladin into meeting and having them realize that the Adorkable dragon is a good soul (Paladin) and has a more loyal following than any other dragon has ever held (the Mother).

Sir Allistar and his squire tromped down the streets. The calm streets. The calm, unpanicked streets.
How could this be? Didn’t these people realize what lived just outside the edge of town? The vile creature just outside their doorstep! The thing that existed against all he stood for?
No, they understood, and that was the problem. They understood and simply didn’t care. Worse, most even approved.
He had been called here by his order to get rid of a vile beast. That was his duty. He shows up, kills whatever horrible creature needed, and then move one with the peace restored. That’s how things had and always would work.
Here, though. Here the people simply fell for the tricks the beast pulled and denied him and his squire fromfollowing through with their mission. Allistar halted on the corner. If he were to simply attack, the people of this place would loose faith in the honor of his order. They needed to find a way to kill the creature without the people blaming him as the bad guy.
“Come,” he motioned to his sqire, “we have a dragon to slay.”
Oh yes, this was going to be tricky.

Allistar and his squire quickly make their way to the bakery. The baker had complained the most about the dragon. Apparently, it had broken their storefront, eaten all his wares, and nearly destroyed his kitchen in pursuit of some mad experiment. Yes, he would be a valuable ally for... for...
For...
Allistar entered the shop. “Excuse me, hello?”
“Hail friend!” The baker raised his arm in greeting. “You are in luck. I have just opened, and have fresh loaves straight from the oven!”
“I’m sorry, thanks.” Allistar waved him off, “I came in cause I had to ask; how did you get” he shook his arm around, “that?”
The Baker and Squire looked at where Allistar was pointing. At the front of the shop, was a rather impressively decorated glass window. It’s brown and gold colors cast a comforting glow indoors. Some dark shards declared to the world the building it was attached to was a bakery.
“Amazing,” the squire commented. “That must have cost you quite and amount of gold.”
“You would think so, wouldn’t you?” The baker beamed with pride. ”Anywhere else and it would take over a years profit just for the glass. Truthfully, the dragon gave it to me in exchange for some lessons in baking. Done wonders in attracting travelers.” The baker leaned over his counter and eagerly stared at the pair. “Anyway, would you like to buy some of my Dragonfire bread? It is the best in the city!”
Sir Allistar pinched the bridge of his nose as his Squire searched their pouch for coins. Oh yes, this was going to be tricky indeed.

>>
>>62939667
I think you misunderstood. While it’s true gold makes red glass, it isn’t said that gold was used to make it.
It was saying the glass was colored yellow and brown, like the hair and halo in your pic.
>>
>>62939667
Unrelated, but because I'm determined to get SOME fucking use out of the art history class I'm taking, halos changed from that radiant, encompassing circle of light to a floating gold disk (and eventually the ring we know today) in the Renaissance, because they were big into linear perspective and omnidirectional flat circles don't really mesh with that.

>>62938496
I'm picturing the pally pulling a Text-To-Speech's Fyodor and declaring everything HERESY!
Though, in this setting, doing that would probably swiftly make him Fall.
>>
>>62939775
ah nevermind then. I just figured Dork would go nutso on making red glass for the entire town.

>>62937991
Your right but I also don't think her mother would go for that either. I imagine she is the COMPLETE polar opposite of the chubby adorkable dummy dragon. As in she is a totally traditional dragon, traditional golden hoard, traditional love of maidens, traditional lair in a mountain peak, traditional decorative scorched knight corpses littering the entrance. She might reinvest her golden hoard upon a resolution with her daughter but before that? nah just straight up tradition.
>>
>>62939958
>halos changed from that radiant, encompassing circle of light to a floating gold disk (and eventually the ring we know today) in the Renaissance, because they were big into linear perspective and omnidirectional flat circles don't really mesh with that.

Huh, the more you know. Personally I'm more a fan of the omnidirectional circle halo precisely because it clashes so much with stuff done in the proper perspective. Really does a much better job of setting the person apart from everyone else than a dinky little hoop following them around.
>>

>>
>>62939998
I don’t know. I agree with her being a complete opposite of her daughter the Dork, but I feel that would be her being extremely successful in being a conquering force of power, so much so that they can flaunt it without worry.
I can see the mother havin a hoard, kidnapped maidens, and the armor of slain knights mounted as trophies/warnings just outside the entrance of a great mountainside red-glasses lair.
So while Dork is awkward, humble, passionately curious about human culture, and content with her barn house lair, the mother is well-spoken, greedy, certain about her natural superiority, and prone to extravagance in her lair.
>>
>>62940592
Oh sure I see extravagence too, but I don't see her taking cues about about human ingenuity herself until her daughter might 'inspire' her. To me dragons were all about the taking, not the making.they have hoards of priceless artifacts and gold coins of bygone eras, but not one did they personally make. It is all stolen.
>>
>>62940774
I see what you mean. Dork being a maker with her mother being a taker would go together as well.
So how about this: the glass around her lair is just a byproduct of how powerful her fire is when she fights.
So while Chubby Dork dragon makes glass on purpose for beauty and to give it to others, her mother glasses her lair as a boastful accident.
I mainly want the love of glass to be something the two share so that they have something to relate to together. It would also be good as a discussion about how Dork uses her glass to better the town.

I guess she tries and fails to eat them?

I think I had that book as well, or at least something similar to it.
Did it come with a puzzle like pic related but made of cardboard?
>>

>How would she interact with the townsfolk in day to day life?
When the first appears, there would the obvious panic and fear about how a freaking dragon decided to set up shop near their home. As time goes on and more people interact with her, they become more confident in their interactions. Most would likely keep their distance unless something they do captures her attention. Like the old fisherman just fishing at the pier, or a farmer speaking about a bountiful harvest.
Once she proves herself as eager, if bumbling, nice person, she would probably make most of the people quite fond of her mannerisms.
>>
>>62942324
She's not aggressive nor particular envious, and being around (presumably) humans has made her unlikely to take things that belong to someone else (though she probably will take things she believes to be unclaimed). She's pretty strong-willed, so making a move on her village will attract her ire, but she's also naive and kinda simple, so that isn't as big a roadblock as stealing from a different dragon.
If there's a nearby dragon, they'll know her from her attempts to find friends, and will either accept her friendship (could be useful) or tell her to buzz off. From there, I can see an easy pair of possible quests:
>A dragon knows himself to be stronger than Dork, and is coming to claim her village for his own... and possibly her as well, if she submits before dying. The party is asked to help her fight him, just cripple him enough that Dork can overwhelm him and send him packing.
>A dragon is coming courting, but the purity of his intentions is suspect. Party can either confront him and try to figure out what this new dragon may want from the village and its beloved Dork, or talk with Dork and try to fill in gaps in her knowledge (she's not a blank slate, remember, but tends to submit to new knowledge no matter the accuracy; he won't get her to believe that she must accept his advances, but she might believe that the dragoness gives an edible gift if she's moved by him... such as a villager).

>>62942451
>>62943280
Thirding. Closest she probably gets is back from before she's friends with the village, and tries to eat their sacrifice, but their pleas for mercy always get to her before she actually swallows.
She soon switches to asking for livestock, a tradition that continues into her friendship because she's certain that's what a dragon is supposed to do.
>>
>>62942451
>>62943280
>>62945005
Ut's so weird to have fellow vorefags working against the idea of being eaten, but for a precious muffin of a character like our Dork, I think we can make an exception to our interests, and keep her from hurting a soul.
>>
>>62945214
I think it's appropriate for her to go halfway before deciding she can't go through with it. Poor guy doesn't know what to think when the dragon spits him out and starts asking if he's okay.
>>
>>62945304
Now THAT is a cute compromise.
She's ultimately a harmless and gentle soul in the body of a ferocious dragon.

I can easily see a very intense scene where she gets very angry at someone, far more than usual, and she chomps down on them, and rather than letting them hang out of her mouth, she completely stuffs them into her maw.
As her face looks angry, she goes to swallow before her face softens, she realizes what she's about to do, and just spits him out and breaks down crying, and either runs away, or holds the would-be victim tightly in her arms, apologizing.
>>
>>62945304
>>62945366
The first time with the sacrifice she claims it’s because she thinks they taste terrible and changes the subject by asking why that person in particular was chosen to be sacrificed.

>The paladin plans to attract the dragon to the old watchtower by luring her with a maid, so he may have a reason (and a secluded place) to slay her.
>The order does not have maids on call.
>The squire really doesn't want to reveal the full plan, but he *insists* that it must be averted at all costs. And that the bakers' daughter must see nothing.

Repost from the end of the last thread:

>"So... this creature is NOT for eating...?"
>"No, of course not! What gave you that idea?"
>"I thought... I thoooooought that... ALL creatures were for eating..."
>"You thought... Okay. Okay, I understand how you might think that, but no, not all creatures are for eating."
>" Not ALL creatures...."
>"Right. Like that cat. Cats aren't for eating."
>"Then... then what ARE they for...? What are not-for-eating animals for?"
>"Well, we call them "pets." A pet is a creature you keep around because it does a job and you enjoy its company."
>"Like... this "cat"."
>"Yes, like that cat. Cats keep mice and vermin away, and many people enjoy keeping them around. Here, hold it like this, and run your claws carefully along its back."
>"Carefully...?"
>"Yes, very carefully."
>"Like this...?"
>"Yes, like that."
>"The "cat" is... RUMBLING...!"
>"That's called purring. It means it likes you now."
>"It likes me now!"

How does dork react to hearing music for the first time?

>>
>>62949038
Part of me wants to agree with you, but a larger part of me is pissing itself laughing at the thought of the normally bumbling dork picking up a minuscule violin and doing this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXDQ-QliMJI

I like the idea of her being some kind of savant.
>>
>>62948924
I think that music, dancing, and the arts in general will be something that our Dorkgon really takes to, given that dragons in general seem to have an appreciation for artistry with how often their hoards may include things like statuary and jewelry. In her experience, living with her mother or among other dragons, art has been something to be stolen and hidden away but now she's living with the races that actually MAKE all the art and shiny things her species covets and she sees the process of creation and the sharing of art, and comes to the realization that SHE can even make art herself. I think that would be HUGE for her. The idea that the act of creation is not just something that mortals can and dragons can't do.
>>
>>62949038
>>62949206
There's definitely going to be a more than a few Human activities that this Dragon is just too big, clumsy or dumb to pull off well, but there are also going to be somethings that she's surprisingly good at once she's taught the basics.
>>
>>62949206
Our chubby adorkable dummy dragon must always hilariously fail before success, due to a misunderstanding rather then inate inability.

For example she sees humans string strings across a piece of wood then draw another band of strings across those to make music. She sees a human blowing air into a wooden tube and makes music.

So the chubby adorkable dummy dragon flies off to fetch some tried and rope and crafts her own instruments that will cause untold hearing problems and make professional musicians cry in sheet terror at the atrocities being performed to the craft of music.
>>
>>62949343
>Tried
Friggin phone, meant to say trees
>>
>>62949343
Nah, I like the idea of subverting the expectation of her failing hilariously by having her be good at something right off the rip. Not only does it surprise the villagers that she's not committing a war crime with a musical instrument, imagine the look of utter joy on her face when people say that she plays well.
>>
>>62949256
That could be one of the important developments of the adorkable dragon, to figure out that she can in fact create art, and be actually good at something.

She seems pretty attached to the humans and their little village, but I think that other important development would be for her to accept that she is, in fact, a dragon.
>>
>>62949858
Taking what she's learned from the mortal folk and teaching her kin its worth.
>>
The overall theme for Dork seems to be the discovery of ones ability for creating instead of simply taking like other dragons do. The conflict then arises from those around her either accepting that ability or refusing it.
Will her mother accept her daughters version of success, or will she remain stick in their ways?
Will the Paladin succeed in slaying the dragon, or change his mind?
Does the dragon wishing to court Dork have good intentions or simply wish to take what she has?
And will Dork ever stop trying to make romantic music when she sees the squire and baker’s daughter together?
>>

I rather like that those themes, for Dorkgon and her world. Creation versus Destruction, Positivity versus Negativity, and how one doesn't necessarily have to be a one species or another to discover their capacity for goodness and heir creative talents.

I prefer the color of polished copper. Like how a freshly minted penny looks. Goes well with the feel of a coastal farming/fishing town she lives in.
>>
>>62952828
"New Penny" works with how optimistic she is.
>>
ok
>>
>>62953299
That would actually be a good name for her, or as a translationof the name. Her Draconic name could mean “freshly minted penny” or “shiny coin” while the people of the town affectionately refer to her as “Dork” or “the Dorky dragon.”
>>
>>62952828
If anyone's eating anyone, I'd think her mother would eat someone, and Dork would fight to make her mother throw up her friend.
Battle would end with a well placed gut punch rescuing the poor villager.
>>
>>62953444
That's an interesting idea, that Draconic names are actually descriptions in their native tongue of their brutish accomplishments things or bits of loot that they value.

Even more perfect!

She is now Bright Penny, the Adorkable young dragon!

And since human cultures tent to keep their names, there’s now a reason she would still be named that even when she starts making glass, honey, and music inside her barn house lair.

Though Blood Ruby sounds like a great name for her Mother. Very traditional and dragonish.

No conflict needed there. Just have the long and mean “bright penny” and have Dork be a nickname.

no conflict intended, way things were phrased made me think it was not noticed from last thread. Just pointing out that 'dork' is part of whatever dragon name she has in the end.

but whatever the name is, it has to be super long and overly dragonly pompous. But she enjoys the nicknames people give her while her mother insists on proper titles.

The paladin finally does something to push her over the edge, and although he wouldn't admit it, he's gotten so used to her antics that he's completely caught off guard when she finally starts acting like a real dragon. He barely has time to draw his sword.
...but she still can't kill him. In the end she spits him out and hugs him tightly against her chest, all while crying and asking him why they have to fight.
>>
>>62953971
>>
>>62953971
In that case, we can have her full long name translate to “she who is the shiniest coin in the board and brightest penny in the chest”
Appropriately pompous for a dragon and also helps show how she’s putting herself on equal footing with the people of the town just by naming herself Bright Penny.
>>

But in the meantime, my proposition is that he had started up some kinda big dialogue when she's emotionally unstable.
She slowly gets teary and says "No, no I would never... That's not... (etc.)" while he lobs accusations at her, and eventually, he says one thing at the end that really hits home, (maybe comparing her to her mother?), and she just... snaps.
Her eyes harden, her teeth bare, she says some quip, and then slaps him to disarm him, and chomps down.
He panics, she prepares to swallow before... Eyes widen, spits him out, and cries.

I agree except for the quip. It's at least not a witty Spidey-type quip. She's recently been upset by something (accidentally destroying something precious, moping in her cave only to happen upon some unread books about dragons, which only serve to make things worse), and The Paladin comes in and starts accusing her of being a deceitful, calamitous beast bent on the enslavement if not destruction of the town. After asking him to go away, then stop talking, she finally snaps. Her tail swings around with surprising speed, sending his sword flying off and knocking him to the ground. With a deafening roar of "I said SHUT UP!" she pounces on him, scooping him easily into her jaws. Head flicks back once, twice, and he's inside. He's been hounding her for weeks, months even, and now she'll make him stop. Just one simple swallow, and-
She catches herself, freezing with her head tipped back. Tongue pressed up to stop The Paladin from sliding deeper, she pitches forward and lets him fall out, catching him in her forepaws and hugging his soaked, armored body close. Dork's chest shudders and heaves as she sobs over him, professing that she's not like them, she won't eat people, she's not just some heartless monster. The Paladin is unsure whether she's trying to convince him or herself, but either way he's stuck there until she lets him leave or a villager rescues him.

It's just a very intimate and comforting thing. Imagine being surrounded on all sides by a warm hug, being comforted by a creature that is powerful enough to eat you, yet means you no harm. I'm into nonfatal, you see.

Does it make sense? In a practical sense, no, but at the end of the day, it's strange but ultimately harmless.

Side stories and Quests:
>Dork’s anchor has drudged up a rather interesting artifact the last time she fished with the Old Man. She is displaying it quite proudly at her barn. Strangely, that was around the same time the weather decided start raining. And it’s still gradually getting worse. Is the artifact the cause, or is something else at hand?

>The town doesn’t mind that Bright “Dork” Penny planted all the flowers everywhere. The honeybees aren’t bothersome, the honey is useful, and the mead will soon be able to be exported. The bees the size of a mans head, however, are becoming quite a bother. They just won’t stop complaining about the misuse of “their” hard work. Where did they come from, and can they leave us alone?

>Everybody remembers the time Bright Penny glassed that stretch of beach when she first leaned glass was melted sand. It is also known that the children love to tell tales of glass birds and crabs living within that glass cove. Despite this, it is still a popular place for gatherings and merriment. Until today. A frisky young couple found a solid glass statue of a girl at the entrance to the cove. More worrisome, it has a striking resemblance to the Bakers daughter who had recently gone missing. What strange Magic’s could be at hand here?

>A group of Kobolds seem to wish to be put into service under Dork. The group contains individuals who seem to be genuinely good people and some who seem to be the thieving monsters told of in tales. Uncertain how to handle this, Dork has turned to the town for help. Should they be accepted, refused, or is there some kind of compromise to be reached?

Bloodstained Ruby high upon the Mountain, or Bloody Ruby as the mortals named her, was about as successful as a dragon could become in this world. Her hoard overflowed with gold, jewels, decorated armor, various weapons, and precious artifacts and from across the lands. She feasted upon the finest cattle around and could claim ransom over any lord or maiden she chose.
Even her prowess for fighting was without compare. Many a foolhardy party of knights with glory on their minds had met their ends outside her lair. He breath was so hot in the fights that the dirt around the entrance was long since turned into a reddened layer of glass.
For all her greed and power, however, it must be known there was one being she cared for above herself. Her daughter, Siniest Coin in the Hoard, Brightest Penny in the Chest. Bloody Ruby instructed her in the proper ways of the dragon. She told her that one day she would have to set out and demand tribute in lands of her own. Bright Penny needed to know what it mens to be a dragon, and there is no better teacher than experience.

How would the mother look like, because i'm imagining that she looks like this
>>
Upon the shores of the great Crystal Lake, a port town known as Clearwater can be found. This town plays host to a variety of interesting characters.

>Dork Bright Penny: a rather unusual copper-colored young dragoness who appeared one day in a rather unusual and fumbling attempt to demand tribute. She didn’t really understand why they brought out a better woman to her. It soon became clear she had no desire to hurt anyone and was rather curious about how the people of the town lived their lives. Has since become a town staple and can be found either in her barn lair or around town learning how one trade or another works. Most of the people in town regard her with fondness with a few small yet vocal groups claiming she’s bad news.

>The Paladin: a nameless knight of one god or another. Might follow multiple goes. Showed up due to the reports of a dragon living so close to the town and intended to slay it. He was quite surprised to find how many people wished him not to. Frequently sets up secret tests to see if he can “catch her in the act” as it were and slay her justly. Can be found around the Temple seeking allies to both set up the tests and keep an eye on the dragon.

>The Squire: similarly nameless squire to the paladin. He’s more open to the idea that Bright Penny is genuinely good, though still followed his master as ordered. Can be found either with the Paladin or near the Bakery speaking to the Baker’s daughter.

>The Baker: actually has a name but damned if anybody knows what it is. Claims he has some kind of reward for anybody can figure it out. Doesn’t seem to care one way or another about the dragon living nearby so long as she keeps paying for her honey pastries and lessons like everybody else. Knows quite a lot about the goings on around town. Can be easily found at the Bakery.

Blood Ruby could have a rival dragon with pure white scales, that would attack the town since her daugter's there, thus forcing her to defend it.
You could use this as justification of the pally's paranoia against dragons, or as a way to change his view from "utterly evil beasts" to "utterly evil beasts beasts, but some of them are alright, if you work out their kinks"
>>
>>62964558
Why not? I mean Shire is another word for village, so now realize how plain the Shire is as a village name in lotr.

Could always use another word not many know means town/village. Like Thorpe.
>>
So, is Dork better as a clueless dragon, like seems to be happening a lot here, or one who knows what dragons are "supposed" to do but is really bad at doing it?
Clueless:
>when she showed up, town tried to give her an offering, which she accepted but didn't know why
>doesn't have a hoard unless pressured to make one
>doesn't understand that Paladin wants to kill her and is looking for a good excuse
Awkward:
>tried to demand an offering when she showed up, came off as more of a polite request, doesn't particularly care for the taste of maidens but it's what dragons do, right?
>tries to keep gold and gems in her hoard, but ends up filling it with cool bits of sandstone, nifty weapons and armor, and damn near anything nonperishable the town gives her
>worries the Paladin will try to kill her, tries to scare him off by loudly saying roar and awkwardly flaring her wings, leaving him confused as to whether that was an actual attempt or a double-bluff

>>62966092
That definitely exudes raw draconic power a lot better.

>>62966233

>So, is Dork better as a clueless dragon, like seems to be happening a lot here, or one who knows what dragons are "supposed" to do but is really bad at doing it?
A combination of the two I think is what charmed so many of us at first in the first thread. Gives her so much more growth potential.
>>
>>62966075
>The Baker’s daughter: just as cheeky about her name as her father. Helps buy ingredients from the merchants and harvest honey from the beehives. Quite talkative and friendly with Bright Penny. Can be found near the Bakery, shops, or walking around with the Squire.

>Farmer Henson: Owns the land and barn where Bright Penny currently lives. Is simultaneously the greatest supporter and critic of her living there. Still upset about the time she ruined his crops, but grateful for repaying for it and helping resow the fields. Can be found tending his property or instructing an apprentice on the ways of agriculture.

>The Old fisherman on the pier: just an old man who taught Dork Bright Penny how to fish. May or may not be an old god.

>Bloody Ruby: the most famous and richest Dragon around the great Crystal Lake. Mother to Bright Penny, and grisly loves her. Believes that the way of the dragon is one of conquest, power, and riches. Can be found on Dragons Point, at the opposite end of the Great Crystal Lake.

>Lizard Wizard: A boastful magical Wyvern who ocassionally appears to offer his magic services and talk to Bright Penny. Quite friendly to others and is mostly met with amusement by the town. If he’s around, you WILL hear him.
>>
>>62966071

Dude, what book is that. Because it looks great and it's on my language to boot!
>>
>>62966387
She’s a combination of the two. She knows what dragons are “supposed” to do but doesn’t have the heart for it, and is mostly ignorant of everything else that doesn’t relate to dragons. However, she has a good heart and is willing and eager to learn.
>>
Maybe I am just autistic but we seem to be adding too much complex other character imo. To me the principal point of the previous thread when it came to the chubby adorkable dummy dragon was all the possibilities of her goofing around being able to become campaign hooks. Feels like we are developing her and other characters too much past that. But again maybe being too austitic

>>
>>62966387
>>62966437
I like the idea that she simply doesn't have any experience doing typical dragon things. She starts out, at least, *wanting* to be like her mom, inspiring fear in mortals and demanding tasty and valuable tributes to keep her mighty, fiery breath at bat, but she just can't perform under pressure. Her town first hears of her when she lands quietly on the outskirts, starts talking, stops, and starts again louder:
>"You- uh, Pitiful mortals! I am Dohrkrathscintarensra vehren Scrahchtieristoarfehln, here to ruin- er, wait, to bring ruin? To make you fear and to destroy this... village... town. Unless! Giv- Present to me an offering of one of your own, and I will spare you for a ye- month? Two months! Two months, mortals, and I will then come again!"
A passing adventuring party overhears and Richard the rogue, as we know, calls her Dork, and she seems rather excited to get a nickname.
The sacrifice comes, and she again nimbly lands without much drama, approaches the human, admits she's never done this before and asks if the sacrifice knows if she's supposed to eat her there, or take her back to her lair first, or if she even HAS to eat them because humans aren't very good food.
And then over time she adapts her studied dragony habits to fit being with humans. Has a hoard, it's mostly gifts from the village; "demands" a tribute, it's just some sweet bread; kidnaps a maiden, just for an afternoon and makes sure to give a few week's notice so the girl can clear up her schedule, etc.
Paladin comes and tries to make that stuff out to be bigger than it is, is met with the town going "oh yeah, that's Dork, she does that sometimes. Took Lily flying on her back last time she was kidnapped."
>>
So, I've thought another situation that could work on a campaign.

Completely uninspired by my players trying to exploit this to get an Ancient Dragon for themselves.

Any way, while exploring the forest outside of the village, she found some ancient ruins, and decided to explore them. Inside them, she encountered a ghost who used Hrrifyng Visage on her, aging her... to an ancient dragon.

Now she is stuck inside the ruins, scared and frightened; and is the adventurer's job to find a way to bring her back to normal.
>>
>>62966092
That looks really good as Bloody Ruby. Fierce, dominating, and noble.

>>62966541
There was only so much to be done before it becomes the repetitive “adorkable dragon misunderstands something.” Having other lighthearted characters for her to interact with and bounce off expands the amount of scenarios both she and the players can get caught up in.
It can also be set into two halves. The first when she first comes to town and is being Adorkable and misunderstanding their customs, and the second half where she’s been living there to a while and is familiar with several of the people there.
It all just depends on what interest you the most.
>>
62966706
Yes, That’s EXACTLY it! The natural transition from “conquering dragon” to “friendly dragon” who then starts actively helping out the town.
>>
>>62923734
I feel like dragon threads on /tg/ are like the mandatory fetish threads that we need to have.
>>
>62967396
You would think that, but we’ve been able to keep on topic overall.
>>
>>62923734
>Given that she enjoys humanoids, would she ever be able to harm other humanoids who may attack her village, given that she was taught hurting others is wrong?

That’s actually a very good question, and raises further questions. Like, how is the town attacked? Is it from some roving band of bandits? Pirates enticed by the wealth the dragon brought? A rival kingdom’s army wishing to take the town for strategic purposes?
If it was the first two, I can easily see her leaping at the chance to protect those she sees as friends.
If it’s the latter, however, a dragon being used to drive off an army might bring the wrong kinds of attention to the town.

>Kobolds: Where there are dragons, these short reptilian folk never seem to be far behind. They always seem quite eager to give their service to a dragon. Though for what use is only known between them and the dragons.

>The goblin pair: what? Goblins? We’re not goblins! We’re just a couple of kids! Our skin? Why is it green? We uh, swam through some moss and... got a sunburn!

>Pirates: A group of raiders uncannily skilled in looting merchant ships and hit-and-raids upon the ports of The Great Crystal Lake. The wind always seems to blow in the right direction for them.

Seems good to me. What about the church he's affiliated with? Do we go with the classic pseudo-catholic, or should we try to come up with something original?
>>
>>62969942
I'm thinking about a "church of merit" thing.
They worship an admitedly minor god of dragonslaying, and the paladins have to raise to the ranks killing wyverns, kobolds and other draconic creatures.
The test to become an actual paladin is to bring a jug's worth of dragon's blood.
Maybe our paladin's helping his squire to do it?
>>
>>62970110
Seems legit, it also portrays dragons as a fairly widespread threat, given that there's an entire church dedicated to killing them.
>>
>>62970110
>>62969893
That actually looks and sounds really good. It would explain why he has the squire around and why they are so suspicious of Dork Bright Penny. So that would be why they’re sticking around for so long.
They definitely see themselves as one of the “good guys”. Because of that, they are trying to find evidence against the dragon so they can slay her according to their beliefs without bringing shame upon the gods they gave up their name for.
>>
how many threads will this span?
>>
>>62969893
>>62970110
>>62970330
My main fear with the Paladin is him becoming a none note character, or acting like he joined his church so they’d have an excuse to kill something.
I prefer to think of him as somebody who truely believe in their god/gods and wishes to do right by both them and the people they watch over.

A man struggling to find the correct path to righteousness is more interesting that a man trying to find a way to kill a flying lizard.

Do we subvert this by getting him killed/injured by hesitating against a powerful, less understanding dragon, making Penny question the long term effects of her time amongst the humans?
>>
>>62970955
We seem to have covered the characterization of the major players Dork Bright Penny, her mother Bloody Ruby, and the Paladin. We have also covered a fair amount of events to occur and side characters to bring in for flavor
If we did a third thread it would do best in finalizing the worldbuilding around The Great Crystal Lake. Like why are so many dragons attracted to that freshwater sea, who rules what, and what magical forces have control.
>>
>>62971244
Honestly the whole point of this campaign focus in my opinion was the feel good comfy side of it. That kinda darkens the mood a bit much in my opinion.
>>
Who's gonna make thread three for the world building of Crystal Lake? Bump limit reached.
>>
>>62971269
I'd worried about that. At what point does Penny have to start dealing with the repercussions of a dragon living amongst the humans at the macro level, or is that something we handwave away for much later world building?
>>
>>62971195
This thread will be archived, and I agree that we should all step away and grab a stiff drink and a smoke after this thread dies. If everyone is agreeable, I'll start a new thread this upcoming Saturday using this>>62955833 as the OP image.
>>
>>62971347
alright, no one make thread 3, time for a break
>>
>>62971319
If a third thread is made, it should probably be focused mostly on world building a comfy, lighthearted setting that is built up around ancient dragons and various monstrous races that might not be quite so monstrous if fgiven the chance.
>>
>>62971321
If its a feels good sort of campaign it does not neccessarily need seriousness at all. this is a perfect campaign for when a serious group of players are starting to feel burned out

think of this as less something you play in DnD and more something with a more rules light story focused system like say Ryuutama
>>
>>62971018
>>62971244
I think we can work around this by instead of him doubting his teachings he is simply reinterpreting them. He can now simply observe the dragons to see if they are worth slaying or not:
Besides which, we already had the point where almost gets killed through hesitating. Earlier in the thread Dork almost ate him in a fit of anger. He isn’t going to let his guard down like that again, even though he does trust her.

I like this. Instead of him barrelling through situations, he becomes a far more subtle and discerning hunter who can be used later in more rules-heavy campaigns with greater stakes?

This was another good thread with a lot of good feelings. Thanks everyone!

Nah, not really. I'm a little into unbirth, but that's because of the whole "used as a sex toy" angle rather than anything that Freudian. Personally, a large part of it is the dominance thing, as well as a massive dragon fetish. Which I of course keep well away from Dork worldbuilding.

Yeah. Even this thread has been a nice break from usual dragon threads, and definitely a fantastic change from "ur system a shit"
I like adorable dragons. I feel like I would have a very hard time not asking Dork if I could hug her.

Amazing Thread everybody. I love that TG can still have threads like this

That sounds good. Helps show how much he’s changed and the effect Dork has on him.
He’d make a great cameo character in a serious campaign.

Sounds good mate.
I've had a good time.

This thread was able to come to a compromise with vorefags. That alone should make it a thread of legend.

i used to have a snake for a pet, and i only fed it defrosted frozen mice, so i have weird competing desires to see something get fed, even though it's being fed something else that might normally be considered cute (as well as round bellies reminiscent of pregnancy), but i am also massively against the idea of a sentient eating another sentient, so i had a long conflict until i decided that the fascination of vore just wasn't worth the heartache of losing characters. and now i try to avoid unless there's an out, and even that is iffy.

Good.

Glad to have been part of this, and to have inspired 2 minor characters and one relationship along the way. It was nice.
>>
Now we await archive status and saving on suptg

Went in and cleaned up the wiki page a little, up to the Paladin section.
It's oddly fulfilling, like going through a roughly-translated manga an turning it into actual English instead of "Huh? But what when friend-Reiji become into a fire element?"

I was just reading the wiki entry and the bit about the two goblins who stayed got me thinking. Would the village start attracting more 'monsters' interested in a more settled existance?
Potential plot hooks as the party must vet the newcomers to determine if they truly want to live in peace or are just trying to manipulate the ever trusting dork and harm the now less cautious villagers.
