>Is our modern world really so mundane? What lurks in the dark places no one cares to look? Do you feel safe? The corner of your eye is a fine place to hide, I think.

Come and post images that give you that 'feeling'. Ones that make you unsure in the dark. 'Things' that don't belong. Basically I'm dumping my creepy sit ya'll.

Call of Cthulu if you're meant to die at the end
Delta Green if you want guns and tactics
WoD if you want vampires and werewolves
Magical Burst if you want weebshit and lolis
GURPS for most anything else
In before some retard suggests DnD. Don't play DnD for anything, especially urban horror.

Another vote for Unknown Armies.
Wildcard option though, I'd like to do something with Traveller, but start mixing in this kind of stuff as foes and mysteries as time goes on. It's a fine line between cool and bait and switch though.

On the general topic of unease in TTRPGs - what methods do you use to invoke such or 'that feeling' in your players and get them to likewise roleplay it in their characters?
I've found that slipping the occasional note into handouts with a vague, unnerving, etc. phrase on it works well in generating unease in horror campaigns if you've made a habit of handing players more normal, useful ones beforehand on things like perception or social skill checks. These can be either vaguely disturbing and generally applicable or specifically relevant to a character's fears, past events or a particular location or NPC. Generally these are to be utilised more frequently as characters lose SAN or become paranoid, and have intrusive thoughts/voices in their heads as a result of such represented by these notes.

Some collated examples:

>Sometimes fear is the correct response.

>Don't feel bad. You could've done something, but we all make mistakes.

>What is the most terrible thing you've ever forgotten?

>Are you shivering? Are you cold?

>Above all else, don't forget [illegible writing]

>Someone in your party isn't human.

>Ever imagined something so beautiful, you weren't sure it existed? You have now.

>Two months. Two months after you are gone your name will fade.

>You see something move in your peripheral vision.

>The stars are watching. Don't ever look back.

I've always been fascinated by the concept of sanity as a mechanic, but I have never felt quite satisfied with how I managed to pull it off, even if my players react positively to it.

My favourite way to convey the gradual loss of sanity is to slowly become an unreliable narrator myself. If you lose a sanity point, there is a chance that any description I give to you has been slightly morphed from reality. The crazier you are, the bigger the lies that I (may) have planted get. This had the unintended consequence of bringing the characters closer, as they became the only way to keep each other grounded. It also helps fueling the paranoia, as they keep asking each other whether something actually happened, and sometimes finding out it didn't.

When sanity goes dangeously low, I sparingly use bouts of violent hallucinations. We were in the middle of a scene when I abruptly told a player that he had begun to feel the frantic crawling of a dozen tiny legs inside his throat. He tried to gasp for air but I kept pressing him, and he ended up drawing his dagger to his throat and cutting himself in order to release the "bugs". This made much more impact than if I had just described the event to him.

I think generally what makes my players uneasy is weird ambiguous wording in scenarios they usually wouldn't feel vulnerable or afraid at. Like at one point my players had their characters looking at the night sky filled with stars. And I said something along the lines of-
>You feel an uncountable number of eyes look your way as you feel the stars get closer and brighter.
Or maybe they see a face behind the blinds of their bedroom window, when they are on the third floor of an apartment with no tree's in sight. Maybe their trapped in a cave system on an expedition and feel what seems like a gust of wind coming from a potential exit. They only find out as they exit it was not wind they felt but the breathing of a large predator. It seem's like that is potentially what this whole Urban Unease actually is. You don't expect to see some horrific demons or monsters in some suburban area, some bear thing at the bottom of a staircase, a super-large alligators in the sewers or an apartment complex you can't seem to escape.

Loving the tips, the only thing I can add is that be careful when trying to describe horrible or out of place things. Make sure you follow through with what you are describing and dont always rely on it being an illusion or in their head. You dont want your players to become accustomed to chalking up all your descriptions as just in their head (or maybe you do). It can detract from the immersion if your players are thinking "oh another description of a terrible monster thats actually just a fat guy with a hot dog". Of course the one time you do really make it a terrible monster instead of a fat guy with a hot dog your players will be shocked so it can work to your benefit.
Just be careful and know that your players may also feel cheated if you do constantly describe something horrible but when the players investigate its something completely mundane and the character was seeing things.

I once got to do something similar when a character was inflicted with strange and horrible visions.

The GM told me a few works to base the visions on but never gave me exactly what the visions were, just that they started tinting every bit of reality save for Her. The DM never described rooms or other areas beyond simply telling me where I was. He described the being as I saw it.

I gradually started talking less and less to the other players throughout the session and reacted increasingly more hostile to everything around me. I never asked for descriptions of anything and reacted with revulsion to normal descriptions given to other players while steadily becoming quieter.

This culminated in one of the other players asking me if I was alright. She touched my arm when doing so and I fell out of my chair screaming.

For the sake of the other players the GM and I immediately came clean but I'd been quietly terrifying them for the past couple of hours as they realized that something was very wrong with the character and the player was leaning into it good and hard.

>A band of average city-goers are all bonded by the one thing they have in common: Nightmarish visions that are becoming realer and realer. It started as seeing shapes in alley ways and faces in windows, but it's now extended to the point of mysterious figures tempting them into door ways, and people disappearing in black outs on the subway. Office workers, delinquent teens and even the elderly find themselves joining together to unearth the evil that lurks under the very streets they once called home

>'everyone plays themself'
Having done this a few times I have found the most interesting way to do it is with a group of friends who all know each other.
Start with a selected person and the first attribute or skill on the character sheet, that selected player makes a case for how good they are at the selected ability (which others can question or debate) and everyone at the table lists a number between 6-20 (or whatever other number range would be appropriate for the system you are using) that they think the selected player would have in that attribute. Do this for each player and each skill/attribute but by the end make sure everyone has the same number of overall skill points /attributes or it might quickly divulge into chaos or jealousy.
The last time I did it my group used Cthulhu, and it was very fun determining the skill for each player. Each player in my group has a degree so it was easy to determine who was good at Accounting, Engineering, Psychology, and the like.
>>
>>63871047
Forgot to mention that you average out the numbers given by players to determine the selected players attribute/skill, and that the selected player doesnt take part in stating a number for themselves (most people rate themselves above average in almost everything so its best to not let them rate themselves ).

Can you run a game with Basic Roleplay rules and in the middle incorporate some rules from CoC? I want to run a game where I convince the players that they're playing a regular murder mystery RPG but slowly after a couple of cases introduce unsettling spooky CoC elements. I already ran a couple modern campaigns without anything supernatural so the players won't suspect that I'll throw in eldritch horrors
>>
>>63870631
that's the real horror of the picture
>>
>>63866555
Definitely agree with this, it's necessary to blur the line between illusion and real malevolent presence to keep the players on edge. That's half the point of the 'unease' - to mask but also build to some kind of revelation hidden within the apparently unclear air of wrongness and have them realise that that one mad thought they had or impossible sight they saw was indeed real. If one instance of such is true, what other fundamental truths have to be wrong in accordance?
>>
>>63875681
I see no reason why that wouldn't work, it'd be simple to execute as nothing in CoC really contradicts the base BRP ruleset.

I got no pics, but I'll share a story about something that spooked me.

It was about my dad. He came from a poor tropical part of the world and half of my apathy for the outdoors came from him.
I say this because I lived in the cities most of my life, with a few camp outs and forest hikes sprinkled in. I saw nature as a place to put down a tent for escaping my sometimes claustrophobic room, but my dad ALWAYS loooked at a tree the same way 7-year old me looked at a playground with those monkey bars and sliding platforms you could ride on.
From what my step mom has told me, he's adjusted to the city life. She remembers a time when he cleared out a rat nest before the exterminators arrived, and another time when he saved her business meeting with a PTSD associate by fanning away smoke from a smoke detector.
With that, it tells me he is the greatest outdoorsmen I've ever known, but there was 1 time I saw him without that impression.
I'm texting about my metaphysical narratives and then I hear from him:
"Hey kid, what do you know about Slenderman?"
I stop and see him resting on the couch nearly gasping from exhaustion. He jogs to exercise, but he never comes home with eyes that large.
I've told him about Slenderman before just to show him something about the internet, but that was barely a year ago. He never talks to me about internet stuff unless I tell him what I see first, so there's a bit of a double-take on my part.
I tell him that he's only in the woods, not at the urbanized complex at 5:00 pm into the afternoon.
"He wore a black suit...and uh. Real tall."
I press him for more details. He's vivid most of the time, but apparently he only remembered where he saw the man come from, before disappearing.

I think it could be a bit of my illustrator senses filling in too many details, but I knew what grassy hill he was describing the "Slenderman" was standing on and 'looking ready for a picnic'.

Want me to continue anons?
>>
>>63882331
Sure. This is an Unease thread.
>>
>>63850619
This is /k/'s fault. I know it.
>>
>>63882331
>>63883994
Okay then I'll continue until I finish.

I liked horror because they reflect bits of man and nature, buy you do not ever endanger your current endeavors with realistic evil or present abnormality. It set me off on an investigative mood.
I unloaded all that I knew about Slenderman, no face, spider limbs, suit and tie, consumption of souls, all the lore and aesthetics that could tell and allow my dad to run away.
My dad listened intently and was already coming out of his shell shock by sitting up on the couch.
"Must have been a park businessman. He had a shorter buddy with him."
I'm able to get from with further elaboration that the man he saw earlier did have a face. I was still concerned but he got up and started for his bath.
Stepmom then returns home, we have dinner reciting the incident, dad is hugged by stepmom. we prepare for sleep, then go to bed. We are happy enough to put away the "Slenderman".
The next few days, nothing but work-related victories or mishaps. Mostly mishaps with my inability to get laundry done.
Until I decided on a whim to run with my dad.
I walked on with him towards the door, thinking he was answering the door and I had to take a package, and he gave me a funny look, asking if I was really joining on his jog.
I didn't want to say it was for the package, as it contained unmentionables, so I said yes, smiling with my semi-usable attire.
He took the jog slow just so I could follow him. I'm managing to keep pace, but I slowly get further and further from my clearly spry dad. I then realize that we're running through a familiar park I take pictures for inspiration. Looking back, I am surprised that I felt nothing until I saw my dad had stopped his jog.
At first I was relieved that he stopped and continued to run in place, but I wondered why he wasn't looking for me to come.
Before I caught up to him, I looked through the trees for what he was looking at, where I saw the hill I remembered him so frightened about.

Because the true horror of monsters that would hit someone like you or me is the fear of the unknown, the chilling realization that we have no idea whats going on or how the world really works. If this thing is a monster, if monsters really exist, everything you thought you knew about the world is wrong. Nothing is ever going to make sense again.

Hillbillies with guns will never think about that. They start and stop at "Holy shit Ma, get the shotgun. No, MA, the BIG shotgun!"

Its not that they have exceptional willpower. Its that they never roll the sanity check at all.

Its a girl because that creates a sense of vulnerability. If it was a man, or even an adult, you would be more confident in their chances.

Its a sword because not only does that fit with the old-school tone of monsters, but its a less "safe" weapon than a gun. If you had a gun you would shoot them with it and it would either kill the monster or they would be immune to it, you can engage from a safe distance. But a sword requires you to get in close, to expose yourself to reprisal.

That said, that evil wizard man should be lucky he's only facing a girl with a sword, cause he looks like he was scheduled to fight Cardcaptor Sakura or some shit.

It was a few days until November, so there was snow and colored leaves to see in the park.
Where he was looking wasn't any snow or leaves.
Just an evergreen tree on top of a hill you see occasionally.
"Hey kid. Don't you think it's odd that there's a tree like that up here?"
I'm a little pertubed by how he's thinking about the tree rather than the hill he thought had a creepypasta on it. I'm about to call my jog a speed walk, so I just tell him it's an evergreen that has spiky pines that never fall off even in winter.
"Sure kid, but you see some black on its sides? That tree isn't going last for winter."
Even with my astigmatism, I see that the tree is still green on all sides.
I then realize how impressive this is for a photo, so I prepare to take a shot but I keep losing my focus and steadiness. I silently regret my choice of phone, so my dad uses his steadier hands to hold it for a better picture.
I see that my dad is right about odd the tree is.
It had, on closer inspection, sharp pines, cone shape, greenness, and branching like an evergreen.
It also had holes dotted through its pines that exposed the inside under.
My dad is looking somewhere and he has this look in his eye that I can translate as preparing for a confrontation.
I don't get to take the picture.
A man in a suit is walking towards us.
He's waving at us to get our attention for some reason.
I don't know if my dad is scared, but I am.
I take away my phone when the man approaches us.
He was tall. I'm taller than most of my family, but he was taller than me. And more ready to be called head of security.
"Sir. Public pictures are not allowed in the park."
I feel slightly irritated, thinking that he's clearly lying for non-specific reasons anyone should know, but my dad steps in. He addresses the man as offhandedly as I can remember.
"Oh sorry man. My son thought it was a nice thing to take a picture of. Trees like that are special.

The suited man looks at my dad, showing that even the back of his head is shaved.
"Sir, please move to another location."
My dad apologizes 1 more time, says goodbye, and beckons me to jog again.
I want to say something to try make the suit acquiese, but I only back up slowly and start to run with him.
In that duration of slow walking before I turned around, I remember that the man looked like he could watch us disappear and not care.
I follow my dad back on the path when he slows down next to me.
I'm about to ask him if the creepypasta he mentioned in fear was really on that hill, but he he uses the same look he used to instruct me to never stomp on a frog in the forest.
"Don't turn around. Keep running with me."
We ran out of the park and I wanted him to slow down at the cross back to the streets, but he didn't waver.
He probably wanted us to keep pace until we got to the house.
As we ran, he waved instead of the 'hullo' every now and then to the people he said he would meet on his jogs.
When we made it home, he took a bath like usual. I waited until he came out, where I questioned him about his thoughts of the suited man we had to leave. I doubted if he was the "Slenderman" he was yammering about earlier, so this would lead to be a revelation of yet another city to nature interaction. But he tells me to get my phone.
I'm confused, but I take out my phone, and he asks me:
"Did you take a picture of that tree?"
With a hushed voice like that, I tell him no, even showing him the contents of my photo library.
"Why? It's only a tree, so what's the big issue I have-"
"It isn't worth taking a picture of a fake tree."
When I heard that, I rebuked his statement, citing the fact that we thought it was a dying evergreen with some odd patches of exposed branches, but then he mentions a rope.
He says it was something I wouldn't see if I was wanting to climb a tree, but it's helpful.

One book I read called dead sea had a bunch of great tricks for causing that feeling on the reader

>you are lost at sea, you try using the radio, there is only static, but you keep trying, but after a time you realize that the static on the radio does no sound like normal static, in fact it almost sounds....like the breathing of an animal, and it gets stronger every time you send an SOS message, like there is someone or something out there using your voice as a homing beacon to find where you are
>you find the diary of another lost soul, someone who came to this weird place before you, but that person died 50 years ago by what you can read on the diary, and the diary is so old some of the letters are almost completely faded, and yet every year on the same date there is a writing on the diary with a weird writing style, like someone else was writing on it.
>06/01/1951: What a lovely day!
>06/01/1952: What a lovely day!
>06/01/1953: What a lovely day!

And it keeps going until the current year, but the last message is a bit different:
>06/01/2019: What a lovely day! I'm coming, now, can you hear it?

One of my favorites was headmaster counting the number of survivors in his group, the number was 8 for two weeks, and then suddenly on the morning of the third week he counted 9 survivors, an impossibility since they watched every other person besides the 8 die, but even the people he trusted most among the group told him he was crazy, there was always 9 people, always.

Out of context they might even sound silly, but with the proper build they can be really good for causing that feeling of dread.

A knot, hidden in the shade that connected to something inside the pine branches.
I tell him that it's just probably the ropes used to align the tree to the sky when it can't be supported by itself. But then I realize what he's been trying to tell me.
There weren't any ropes connected to the ground.
"It's a damn shame."
I took it that he was unhappy it wasn't a tree that you could climb. And so we all slept on it.
The next time my dad returns from a jog, he tells me I won't be able to take pictures of the tree on top of the hill anymore.
He says it's gone.
"A tree just high enough for people to climb and see the world. A fake one, but it would have been nice to let it stay here."
I was spooked and I never ask him again about evergreens.

Might as well tell it

So when I was younger, I used to be a Surf lifeguard. Pretty fun, but I remember it well because you needed to be slightly crazy to be one.
Not like special military group crazy, but a little bit unhinged to fit in properly.
At the time, I was in to the compedative side of the scene. Half of the whole Surf lifesaving thing was actually going out on patrol duties and keeping watch for emergencies. The other half was the competitive sporting side of it. This features a range of races that are all pretty intense things to do for your age in the ocean, without a wetsuit (It's cold where I swim)
The sporting side is weird though. Instead of a ranking competition kind of thing, each club has a designated day called a "Carnival", where clubs from other regions come to your beach and everyone competes.
Our club had a reputation though. Whenever and wherever we turned up at to compete, the weather was always the absolute worst possible.
I'm talking 1-2 metre swells, with small gaps between waves, thick rain, extremely low visibility, high wind, major spray, regular hypothermia. In one case, a litteral swarm of bluebottle jellyfish drifted through our area. I found my partner, who I had to tow in, by his screams.
For reference, I was 12-14 around this time period, and this is the age where races go from easy to intense. This all coupled with the poor training conditions at our own beach made these carnivals horrifically physically and mentally stressful events.
And it didn't get more stressful then when I was actually out in the water. Current and waves crashing down on you, pulling you anywhere as you try to move forward with exhausted muscles, brain nearly shut down from the strain. But you don't really know where forward is, so you need to swim up a wave and hope you catch a glimpse through the darkness and the rain of the small, football sized boey that marks out your track.
You can scream all you want, you won't be heard, I know.
>>
>>63892898 (I wasn't a very good swimmer at the time)
This was always where it happened.
You see, none of this compared to the other more scary thing that happened at these moments.
It was always when I was furtherest out around the course, no sign of shore, completely exhausted, hypothermic, nearly drowning, past terror because my young brain couldn't take the stresses and deal with them, where I saw them.
Of course, looking back it may very well have just been the product of a particularly strained mind, lacking oxygen it needed, and a trick of the light, but when I was at that apex point, I would see these...things.
They didn't have a form I could really see, likely because I was in no condition to pay attention. They just looked like inky black blurs, about the size of my open hand.
They would dart around me, just over or just under the water, always on the edges of my vision, never seen clearly.
I'd breast-stroke along, too tired for freestyle, as they would flit around me at the edges of my vision.
They'd be around a metre away, darting over wave crests, getting closer as It went on, until I eventually went around the second boey and turned back to follow the waves to the shore. Then, they would disappear from my vision quickly, and I wouldn't see them again.
But as I got older, my father started pushing me to do more and more compedative stuff, taking me on long trips to compete in ever more competitive carnivals with, as expected, even worse weather.
Litterally, the second to last one had waves so big, I was the single representative of my club who was sent out, as I was the only one who stood a chance of getting past them on a board. My dad used the example of another guy from my club who was younger then me to make me go out. He then used me as an example to him, as he was better then me, to make him go out.
Over this time, I was doing more and more carnivals. Where before, it would be once a year, at the end it was 2-3 a week.
I was not in a good state.

And during this time, the things would get closer and closer. Where before they started at a metre away, and approach maybe ten centimetres, now they would start at half a metre away, and come right up close to me flitting around excitedly less then a hands length from my face.
During those very last days, they would touch me. At least, I think they did.
They would knife over my hands, across my arms, directly in front of my eyes.
Compared against the cold of the ocean, it sorta felt...warm almost, no conventional warmth, but like an absence of the hypothermic cold I would otherwise feel.
They seemed to loose all pretence at acting like tricks of the light, and swim alongside me.
I was getting hypothermia a lot by this point. I would go in, get hypothermic, get it treated, and go right back in again for my next race. Generally this would occur about three times each day, over two days for the larger carnivals.
And then, the final event. The one it had all been building up to. By this point, I was a shell. Less then a week after the last one, that was particularly harrowing.
Fortunately, it looked to be better. A long, shallow gradient meant for warm water and small waves, and it was expected to be sunny and calm.
It wasn't.
As soon as the carnival started, (this was the regional championship mind you), the clouds cut off the sun, the wind picked up and waves began to build, plus a whole lot of other nastiness, like the bluebottle swarm I mentioned. I also mentioned I was the best one in my age group, and the physically strongest, so I had to do everything that was hard, like tow the person in.
It was so bad, the beach was near inhospitable, and after competing, as soon as I left the water and crossed the line, I would be helped back under the cover of our walled up tent, with its heater and blessed milo reserves.
I got hypothermia a lot that day, and just the same as last time, the things came back to play. Except this time, there were masses of them.

No, New Zealander. Aussie waters are like bathwater.
>>63893419
Where before, I could kinda make out the ink like smudges they left as they flitted around, now it was more like seeing the bare glimmers where they weren't.
So that was the first day.
Second day, and despite all that had hollowed me out, I had a tiny kernel of spirit left.
This, I knew, was the last day I would ever have to submit myself to this, and after that year of trauma, it felt good.
I rode out to the beach, and, like last time, it was the worst possible conditions, despite all forecasts otherwise.
The last race I had, was called a Diamond race.
Basically, a triangle of boeys in the water and two flags on the beach. You run about fifty metres, swim around the closest two boeys, then run back in, around the fifty metres, grab a kneeboard, which were these huge, thick beasts of a board, and paddle around the three boeys, then sprint up to the first flag, where the finish line is.
These races were horrifying to me beyond all other races for the sheer length of time they took, and all the energy required. Literally two races in one.
So I start off, sprinting. The land stuff was where I excelled (I actually came away with a medal for the sprint), and I outpaced everyone else.
Sprint into the water, and despite all my conditioning, I slow down enough to be overtaken by the faster swimmers.
Left alone, the inky black things come back.
They swim around me, across me, tarting over hands and across my head, almost possessively in a way, like after all this time, I was their thing.
I barely drag/crawl out of the water onto land, but I pick myself up and manage a stumbling dash for my board.
I'm not last.
I drag the thing along and heave it into the water, jump on it and paddle desperately through the waves as they crash over my board, spraying my face, and making it hard to breathe comfortably.
Spray sucks.
>>
>>63893511
I'm barely even paying attention to the water, my head lifting just enough so I stay on track before it goes back down, to make paddling more comfortable, ears and other senses indicating an imminent wave strike just before it hits me.
I get around nearly two thirds of the course before I get blindsided by a wave.
For reference, a kneeboard is 2-3 metres long, thin and deep. They keep you out of the water and make for easy swimming, but they easily tip. You can pierce through a wave like a sword one way, or catch it effortlessly the other. But on your side, it needs exceptional balance to stay on it as you go over.
And in a race of such strain, that is impossible to achieve.
I go under, and my goggles are ripped away hard.
I had had these all my swimming life. They were scratched and worn, but they were mine, and they let me function effectively enough to bring me in each time.
And they were gone, and I was blind, underwater, and rattled.
I had no idea which way was up. My ears were roaring with blood, water, and something else I couldn't pin down, but eventually, I have to take a guess, and strike out in a direction.
It was the right guess.
I breech the surface, and suck in air. One of my flailing hands grabs my bard and immediately pulls me onto it as I wipe water from my eyes.
The clouds are breaking.
It's clearing up.
The shapes are nowhere to be seen on the calm, quiet water with gentle swells.
The water still pulls at me, and the finish is so very far away, but I will not be stopped this final time.
I can't muster up a grin, but I feel one as the board rides up on the sand and I roll off onto wet ground and push myself up with dead muscles, grabbing the board as I go.
With the last scrap of energy I had left I stumble across the line, literally too tired for thoughts past a quiet notation.
I was surrounded by my family, my friends, congratulating me, despite my absolute inability to process it.
The sun is shining, the breeze blows gently.

It's over.

I got a medal that day, and finally proved my worth in something to my father, whom at the time was...not really in my good books.
It still brings back a smile. That I went through all that, and survived. My father couldn't have.
And so I retired from the competitive scene, and became a proper lifeguard, who actually wears the uniform and saves people.
Mostly though, as every other weekend is horrible at my beach, it just means the whole patrol goes out to the clubhouse and spends the day inside, out of the wind and the rain, by the fireside, toasting marshmellows and openly discussing porn and sex and other illicit things, despite the 50/50 numbers of m-f. We were slightly unhinged, we gave no fucks.
Although, I spent most of the time by the window with the biloculars.
Sometimes this was my antisocial nature.
Sometimes I called it looking for interesting or funny things, like the skinnydipper, where we had to go out and put up flags, so he couldn't come out.
Sometimes I called it a duty to make sure no one snuck out and we missed them, but that was rare.
Mostly, I would just sit and watch the waves thunder and crash, through the darkness and the rain.
Sometimes, I would see these little daggers of inky shadow flit across the waves.
They look almost agitated. Angry, and a poetic side of me thinks that they may want me to go down there, to join them.
Someday, when the conditions turn like that again and I see them return, I think I just might.

That actually sounds like a great idea. Have the players explore the aboned subway sections for spooky shit and after a harriwing experience with a monster come across a vending machine selling them knives and swords with all the corporate inanity and slogans associated with softdrinks, it'd really drive home a sense of alienness to the surroundings.

Traveller has the obvious Alien potential of your dudes stumbling across either a crew who has already discovered some long-buried cyclopean cosmic horror, or stumbling across one themselves. I've been wanting to design a Blindsight-esque adventure in the same general vein.

I don't know if that's generally urban as space horror, but it certainly could take place in an urban setting, a la Dead Space 2.

We make our world so much like a living thing. We give it shape and make it grow constantly, we feed it, through lashed together lanes, carting materials across the earth's surface, but never touching it. It breathes in life and breathes out smoke. And running all across it a million wires carrying a million thoughts, the wisdom of the masses in amoungst it. "Popular consciousness" is just that, a sleeping burgeoning entity, speaking to our subconciousness not through our dreams like the gods of old, but through adverts and subliminal messaging. "Think how I think", it says.

But what happens when it wakes up?

>>
>>63921255
Objecting to site admins and twitter reps using their position as representatives of the SCP community to promote unrelated social opinions is perfectly reasonable, as is objecting to the banning of those people.
