Hello /tg/. Here we make a Renegade(not Chaos) chapter who now have abandoned the Imperium for their own reasons.

>Ultramarines

We are of the blood of Gulliman. His blood flows in our veins as it does our forebears. Yet still we chose our own path. Still we struck out on our own. How long it was...

When were we founded?

We are young, as far as Chapter go. Barely a Millennium went by before we left the Imperium.
It seems we were in a hurry.

However, what was this terrible event that forced us to flee? Why do we now bear the name of Renegades?

>Emperor's Light: These Marines saw the Imperium as a perversion of the Emperor's will, deemed its festering bureaucracy beyond redemption, and rebelled in order to try and stay true to the Emperor.

We were so ignorant once...we thought it was our duty to obey. So we did. We fought. We died. We lived and wept and scorned and HATED AND KILLED. But every planet we conquered. Every alien race we wiped out...
...we could not be blind forever.
This Imperium was wrong.
This was not what He had fought for. It was nothing more than a hollow shell of what the Emperor had planned.
It was built on LIES AND DECEIT.
The latest perversion...these..Primaris are a sign that surely our cause is Just.

Acute paranoia - The renegades believe that everyone is out to get them and the Imperium looks around every corner to purge them. They trust no one but themselves and are extremely cautious

Our Marines suffer from...excessive social caution. Paranoia really. But in this Galaxy of lies can we be blamed? Traitors corrupt His work and abominations spill forth as puppets of Mars. We..they won't take us.
WE ARE NOT THINGS TO BE REPLACED WE ARE ASTARTES.

Our...revolt, such as it was, was where our Forgemaster, already highly respected, at last distinguished himself. After a Millennium of seeing how rotten the Imperium had become, these...Primaris Marines were the last straw.

They came to "relieve" us of our position in the sector.
We relieved them of their lives.

Our entreaties were ignored, our warnings resolved nothing! Again and again we said we would have no part in betraying our fellow Astartes! But what did the Ultramarines do? What did...Gulliman do?

Our hands were FORCED.
We...are not...THINGS

The Forgemaster lifted his Hammer and showed us the way.

Primitive, sounds like something that would breed paranoia in those requisitioned from there, lots of superstitious beliefs infiltrated the chapter I guess, maybe a serious belief about a threat called "The Doppelganger" and that's why we had to kill the imposters?
>>
>>68965188
>Primitive Sector: The only other race in the system is a fledgling race either before or on the cusp of their own space age.

Our current location bears only a few, hostile worlds. One of these actually bears host to a native race of it's own. They haven't yet mastered Space Travel, but their presence is noted. Xenos...

We haven't really engaged these Xenos. They are aware of our...presence, but any act of wiping them out on our part is likely to signal the Imperium our location. We must be cautious brothers. Trust not your eyes or ears.

For now, we wait.

Yet when we ARE called to battle how do we engage primarily?

Hiding seems like something chapter as paranoid as ours would do
>>
>>68965328
Kind of, it seems that since we're codex compliant we're super strict about battle lines and how a marine should behave, perhaps that's why we're so paranoid and against the nu-marines, we're practically addicted to the codex
>>
These rolls are going Tzeench-level good, hoping for Rouge Military or Savior Complex (with Insurgency also acceptable) next time.
>>
>>68965328
>Codex Compliant - Even after their rebellion, they follow the Codex Astartes

While the Ultramarines and Gulliman himself may have forgotten what it means to be true Marines, WE have not. The great book that he wrote remains our guiding principle. We strictly adhere to it's principles. We may be Masters of Nothing, but we are very capable at almost any combat situation.
Well, as long as there is a Codex passage.

In this time of Trials, we have had to adapt to our unfortunate circumstances.

What then is our way of handling our Chapters actions as a whole? How do we Operate in the wider Imperium and unknown regions?

While we may be Renegades, we remain Astartes. The Lords of Terra may no longer recognize our right to do so, but our Marines are now free to fight for who we will. Those who adhere loyally to the Memories of the Emperor can expect no truer friend. Those Heretics who spread like a tumor inside his grand design no worse foe.

It is perhaps a necessary sacrifice, given our break with the Imperium. The Martians, crafters of the abominations that are the Primaris, have proven equally loathsome. Our Forgemaster has thus found himself alone as our last Techmarine. We can hardly train new ones without the proper technology and rites of Mars...his is a lonely vigil.

Obviously, this has had a negative effect on the attitude of our Machine Spirits.
They are..uh...touchy, to say the least.

Thus, with repairs so low, our shortages in one area are notable.

Our lack of Smiths has resulted in an equal lack in Artificer armor. Those few suits that we DO still possess are worn down and battle scarred. And they are the preserve of our Chapter Master and a handful of elites. Every suit matters brothers. Make them last. We actually have fewer Artificer armors then we do Terminators, if that shows the deficiency involved.

HOWEVER

Our adventures mean that we have acquired some curious gear along the way as well. Here and there our Arsenal is rather different from a "Loyal" Chapter.

The Emperor has truly blessed us! During our flight from the Imperium, we managed to scour several forgotten worlds on the fringe of it's space. There we discovered a vast armory of weaponry from the Dark Age and even the Horus Heresy! We may not have Artificer Armor, but we have found our new gifts vastly...useful. In addition to a collection of Pre Heresy pattern Power Armor, we have also gotten our hands on some truly terrifying weapons. Sergeant, ready my Volkite Cannon!
Although....we don't know what ALL of it actually does.

Just as the Codex Dictates! Our Formations are filled and ready for battle. After all, those Mutant Primaris Bastards hardly scratched us. We have struggled a bit implementing our new weapons into the Codex Sanctioned systems, but it DOES say flexibility is a virtue.

Our Chapter is relentlessly pursuing our goal of a pure Imperium. To that end, we have dedicated all our resources. Even if we fail, we die knowing that we died as Astartes. We died as TRUE sons of the Emperor. Some have called this chronic nostalgia. We name it Loyalty Most True.

Our planet is almost entirely covered with city surface. A true asphalt jungle with endless hives looming over thousands of miles of streets and alleys as far as the eye can see. And above it all...we See All.

We have adapted a chunk of the crippled Eldar Craftworld into a mighty Fortress Monastery of our own. It's not conventional, but it's certainly...Dramatic.

Our world is largely left to its own devices...on the surface at least. The planetary governor knows who butters his bread and thus follows what orders we give him. It works nicely. Our agents report to us the REAL news in any case.

Now then, how do we feel about the Codex?

They could even have a particular nomenclature for a common sidearm or melee weapon they refer to as Fangs, so their battle cry is both a war cry to boost morale and literally promising their enemy they're going to shank them.
>>
>>68970313
Maybe Fangs are what they call power knives? I know that they're usually only used by Custodes, but this is the Alpha Legion we're working with, who knows what they can get their hands on with some effort.
>>
>>68970384
As an addendum, I would like to say that by no means should they all have these. At most Captains and the Chapter Master might have them, the rank and file might just have very finely made combat knives by Marine Standards.
>>
So how exactly did these chapters meet? Is it possible that the Spire Snakes engineered the creation of the Azure Knights, going so far as to tamper with the Geneseed to instill their inherent paranoia? Is it possible they caught a hint of what Cawl was doing and decided to put an ace up their sleeves? Why would they do such a thing? And why Ultramarines specifically, was it just so Alpharius could keep punking Guilliman?

My thoughts are along the lines of
>AK and SS serve in adjacent or nearby regions
>When AK show up in M40, SS quickly deduce that they're a little tiny bit paranoid and play into it
>AK slowly becomes distrustful of the Imperium as a whole, start thinking of SS as the only ones they can trust
>Girlyman wakes up, primaris get revealed, both chapters lose their shit
>SS accept their primaris, but any pre-placed officers among them die to the dreaded Ork Sniper, and the rest are kept in the dark under a very close eye
>AK continually tell their primaris to fuck off from the moment their transport enters vox range, but are ignored as the ship comes in, shuttles descend, and the situation ends up in a face-to-face argument between the AK and the primaris on the landing pad
>Shit gets heated, warnings become threats, threats become shoves, and finally the AK forgemaster loses his shit and brains one of the primaris

Captain Ontaeus: It would appear that they blaspheme in their ignorance, Chapter Master, these... 'Replacement' forces, will not be stopping any time soon, in fact, they shall be arriving in less then five minutes as I stated earlier
>Bragi takes a deep breath, turns on his heel in military fashion and saunters up to his rendition of the codex, a massive series of metal-plates, each one inscribed with the words and wisdom inherent to all codexes, hand written by the Azure Knights first chapter master, Hurly, formerly the captain of the Genesis' chapter's second company, resting his hand upon the still warm metal pages, Bragi feels a sense of calm, before softly muttering
CM Bragi: We're at full strength, any more marines and we'd be in breach of this most holy missive

CM Bragi: You will take a small group of our chapter's leaders, The chief Librarian Maenarch, our master of sanctity Cole, our chief apothecary Dante, and our master of the forge, Einhjeari, if you can find the man, I'll meet you on the landing pad with as many of the captains as we can spare, a show of our elites distaste of them should be enough to shoo these unwanted marines away

>A row of finely armoured demi-gods marches in a spread out file, with chapter-master in the center, flanked on either side by the third captain Judeon, and the eighth captain Maxwell, all men, while helmeted, share a similar expression, one of immense displeasure at the coming meeting
>Waiting for them upon the Pad is a similar group of ornate individuals, the master of sanctity seems to be reciting a litany of purity joined in by the Chief Librarian, the head-apothecary is in deep talks with the captain of the fourth, discussing matters of "Altered gene-stock" that these new primaris could endanger the chapter with, and finally the Master of the forge, a towering man who has chosen to not wear his helmet, showing a barely restrained snarl
>They cease their activities as they turn to the chapter master, offering a short bow to him as dictated in the codex astartes before spreading out to form a semi-circle in order to wait for the descending visitors
CM Bragi: I understand there is no small amount of apprehension among you
>The assorted group of marines offer no reply save the Master of the forge, who let's out a small mechanical rumble through a cybernetic lower jaw

MoS Cole: If such is the case, perhaps we should fire a warning shot, the codex is compliant with this action, if what Maenarch has said is true, we do hold the right to ward off a potential enemy
>At this notion the Master of the Forge immediately perks up
MotF Einhjeari: I shall prepare the anti-air turrets at once, we shall see these fakers running home with their tails between their legs with but a swift motion, praise the omnissiah that we are finally able to test out this world's archeaotech, these Volkite cannons shall sear the sky in a glorious salute to the might of human science!
CM Bragi: Enough! We shall not talk of such matters now, even if they are a threat to our way of life, and an... aberrant existence to us, they still hold the title of astartes, we shall offer them words first, and I pray to the throne they listen this time
>The collected marines offer a slight sigh, maintaining their posture as the sounds of retro-thrusters carry an ultramarine blue ship down towards the landing pad, all gathered marine's attention upon it, except for the Master of the forge, who looks downward with gritted teeth, the power hammer in his hands only remaining inactive due to a superhuman act of will
>>

>The master of sanctity along with the third, fourth, and eighth captain left out a small gasp upon the visage of the primaris, a group of fifteen marines, standing at a full head taller then those gathered around them, wearing armor painted in the same style as the Azure Knights, it is at this that the master of the forge looks up to gaze upon these Primaris, and a look of being winded crosses his face
Primaris Marine 1: Greetings fellow servants of the Imperium, we have been sent from Lord Guilliman himself to reinforce this chapter with the genetic evolution and advanced technology of the Primaris
>The Primaris marine in question proceeds to take a cylindrical jar off his belt and offer it forward towards the chapter master
Primaris Marine 1: Consider this a token of our joining, it a sample of the new progenoids we bring with us
>The chapter master looks upon the proffered vial with a helmeted gaze, one that luckily enough covers up his look of shock, thinking to himself, 'This is how we end, isn't it" beginning to move his hand towards the vial before he is interrupted by the master of the forge
MotF Einhjeari: Friend, who did the colour of your armour?

MotF Einhjeari: Your armour boy, the symbol, the colours, they're ours, you aren't us, so why are you wearing them

Primaris Marine 1: Well, we are to be joining your chapter, as such we were done up to look the part
HA Dante: But you are not us, now are you?
4th Captain Ontaeus: Indeed they aren't, as has been relayed to them on numerous transmissions
>The primaris do not break form, barely moving their heads to acknowledge the dissenting voices
Primaris marine 2: We were ordered here by the Primarch himself, ordered by him to reinforce your ranks, would you have us disobey the primarch?
MoS Cole: If the primarch knew we were at full strength he would not have sent you, it goes against the codex itself, if we were to accept all of you we would be over-strength by two marines, if indeed you can call yourselves that!
>It is at this that the Primaris break their regimented stances, turning to fully acknowledge the Master of Sanctity
Primaris Marine 2: How dare you!
Primaris Marine 1: Brother, hold yourself, they know not what they say

> The surrounding marines all lessen their stances, believing that their Chapter Master has just defused the situation, until the Primaris begins to shove the Gene-vial into his chest-plate
Primaris Marine 1: You, do not, make, that choice!

Even as the Emperors Executioners I have no doubt the Wolves would hunt the AK to the ends of the Galaxy just for a chance to drink with them and have the story recorded for the laughs of generations to come.

Having batshit chapters is one thing. Them going together like hand in powerfist is nothing short of the Emperors divine humour.

They deem it tech heresy, besides, they don't have any tech-marines left, at least, not any ones that know how to work with any new-tech

Considering that the Admech has as many sects as planets and that Caul is indeed the basterd he is, there should be more than a few Magi who would work with the AK if given the opportunity.

Remember the Knights are also paranoid an in hiding.

Also the Admech, their augments and the cult mechanicus probably deviates too much from the emperor’s vision for the AZ to tolerate them

>Space Wolf Rune Priest: Alright, the pict recorder is set up, tell us exactly what happened.
>Azure Knight third company Captain: Like I said, we obeyed the Codex Astartes and slaughtered the heretics to the last.
>RP: Yes, but tell us how you did this.
>AK: Well, we received word that we were to be reinforced with these "Primaris". We informed our parent chapter and the Primarch himself that we were already at the limit on Battle-Brothers permitted by the Codex, and as such could not accept them. They arrived regardless, not to supplement us, but to replace us.
>RP: *audibly restraining himself from laughing* And then what happened?
>AK: They landed at our fortress monastery and attempted to order us about. Our Master of the Forge saw through them though, and beheld the true heresy of stealing our Glorious Chapter's colors. With the Chapter Master's approval, he took the first strike against the heretics, killing the vaunted Primaris in a single blow.
>RP: It would take a strong arm indeed to do that. What happened after that?
>AK: We defended our world of course. We also received a communication from the Primarch himself, we explained to him tue whole situation. Our Brothers in the Spire snakes, a very noble Chapter indeed, recorded it for our archives. I believe I have a copy, one moment.
>>68986666
>AK: Will this be sufficient for your records?
>RP: *once more audibly resisting laughter, this time with less success* Oh, it is perfect.
And hour later...
>RP: You, Serf.
>Serf: Yes, wise one?
>RP: Inform my Brothers to prepare the good ale, I have something they must all see.
>Serf: Yes my lord.
>RP: Matter of fact, tell them to awaken Ancient Bjorn. He too must see this.

Rather than engineering it, they probably just thought that Guilliman's kids betraying their leadership to stay true to some higher principle was funny. Secretly of course, since they firmly believe that their Primarch's betrayal was done out of a higher loyalty, it warmed whatever cold hideous mass Alpha Legionnaires have instead of hearts, and they resolved to support the renegades.

Oh god, I've just made them Tsunderines haven't I? "We're just supporting you out of shadowy plotting, it's not like we like you or anything, b-baka". Never mind.

This is not related to this threads rolling but you lads might be helpful with this.
Any idea for the pipes & eye colour? Chapter name is Golden Warriors.

I'm currently running a DH2E campaign that might feature a few cameos from a certain pic related OC chapter (some plot has moved in the background for a local ancap planet lobbying for a chapter to get founded there (they want to boost their brand and not pay the tithe), and in the epilogue I'll probably mention that they did get founded (unless the players manage to virus bomb that planet or whatever).

I'm also gonna be enough of a OC donut steel to with the traitor seed meme (Iron warriors seed) but what should their offical progenitor be?
>>
>>69015783
>Iron Warriors
Easy, Fists are the natural fit for a cover.

As for colors, you kinda shot yourself in the foot with the two primaries being contrast, not sure if anything is going to fit in well with them. I'd probably go with the traditional red eyes and do the pipes in yellow.

Thanks, I wnat hte main colour to be gold but the other one (currently purple) is up for debate. First I had red and thought it was a nice scheme untill I realized I had just created mini custodes and had to change it to something else. I've also tried grey and white, but they looked meh.

An ironwarrios successor fronting as a fist successor would be hilarious. Had planned for them to start a rivalry with the nearest actual Fist successor.
>>
>>69015783
try to use a white or grey tunic to unify the two colors

That's a possiblity, reminds me of one of the other primary subcolor I considered. Put my four main ideas into one pic incase anybody has any comments on "topleft bad, bottom right good" or whatever.

Thinking of having top right be the offical scheme (I really like the "built in sunglasses" look for the helmet) and topleft be first company veteran (they were suppoused to get special colours right?

It's kinda funny how much time I've spent on this when the only tangible ingame effect so far was that one of the PC has been given a (scaled down) prototype for a shotgun the planet wants to offer the chapter scouts (got given to the inquisitor that gave it to the PC when I was handing out loot).
>>
>>69017770
The traditional mark of a veteran is a white helmet, but there's plenty of room for fudging paint schemes however you like. Also: welcome to worldbuilder's syndrome.

>>
>>69015679
When painting the sigil on the marine's shoulder pads, I'd say, it is preferable for the chapter symbol to remain simple. And usually, it is so.
For instance, the Ultramarines. You can easily see variations of their symbol with laurels, shields, iron halos, wings, etc. However, the main icon that is displayed on every ultramarine, is the Latin-Upsilon [ Ʊ ] coloured white with a blue background.
btw I've been messing a bit more with the design. It's a bit sloppy though.
>>
>>69018949
I don't know what you mean. That, is just a regular symbol. More that adequate for the Emperor's loyal angels of death.;)
>>
>>69018679
Huh I thought they had a bigger difference, thought I heard it from DoW somewhere. Never matter. wouldnt the biggest mememove considering the geneseed to give the 1st company helmets painted in IW colours?

>>69019169
It's kinda hard to see how exactly a color will look in practice from that selector thing, but I've think my latest (furtherst to the left) looks the best since there I dragged the selector a bit to the left instead of hogging the right side.

I want my ancap marines that scream "DO NOT THREAD ON MANKIND" to be pretty.
