The armies of the church took the city. And under the most holy of temples, the Knights Templar discovered the secret vaults, and the demonic artifact. You may be familiar with some of the conspiracy theories around the knights templar, im sure most of them are just propaganda created by the pope at the time because he owed them money. But in this case they really did worship or offer allegiance to this mysterious artifact.

The templars were the first heretics, and the war continues to rage.

The thing is modern BDSM esthetic dates comes from 60s gay leather culture which was inspired by 30s Nazi. In other words, highly anachronistic in WW1.

This dude's stuff reminds me of that Doom .wad called Trench Warfare, which itself was based on the Siege of Vraks. I could see somebody taking Only War and house-ruling a lot of this into a working system and setting once he's done with it. I'm interested to see how America is doing in this setting, having looked through his stuff it seems like the demonic invasion is stemming from the Middle East, and over the centuries of failed containment has finally spilled into Europe, and now all the European countries have eventually banded together under the Church as the sole form of government there. It's an interesting setting, to say the least. It implies the schism was mended but I'm interested to see what happened to Protestantism, which is also why I'm looking forward to finding out what's going on in the US.

I am a protestant now BTW, but one thing I do have to respect about Catholics is the holy awe they put into their rituals. Communion is central to Catholicism because you are summoning the powerful presence of the spirit of God and you are engaging in deophagy - the literal eating of God and absorbing his divine spirit and holy attributes into yourself.

To protestants, the communion is symbolic - a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice and that we now carry the torch of the disciples. It's more rational, sure, but it is hard not to look at a Catholic mass and recognize the power of their symbols.

There may be a few approaches.

1. Once you start thinking evil thoughts or doing evil deeds, demonic posession sets in and you no longer control your own thoughts and actions. So in a heat of rage you kill someone and now are set on the path to damnation. "God could never forgive me" so you never try and instead spiral downwards. Especially with the gates of hell open, minor chacter flaws may be exploited by unseen powers to damn someone.

2. You have extremely heretical religious views. Good is bad and bad is good. God is a tyrant, Satan is the righteous rebel. God is racist sexist homophobic. Etc. Never underestimate peoples' abilities to delude themselves or to believe what they choose to believe rather than what evidence suggests is real.

3. "I wouldn't know what hell is like. I intend to live forever." - delusions of immortality and power. Perhaps demon-influenced.

And so on, I'm sure you can think of other reasons.

The Catholic Popes (all of them) have made two pronouncements ex-cathedra, and they're the only two absolutes that cannot be revoked so far, other than the Bible. Everything else has been up for debate, it's just some people prefer certain arguments over others, so many very old ideas are still around.

Yes, assault guns (or their predecessors) made their debut in WW1, but my claim isn't wrong.

The specific design that the artist used as his baseline was a mid-1940s ISU-152; very visually distinct from late 1910s vehicles like the St.Chamond.
Armored vehicles of the period tended to be far bulkier, owing to their naval heritage. The modern ~3-5 crew casemate configuration used there didn't really become widespread for a decade or two after the end of the war.

It'd be like having P-51s in place of the biplanes and triplanes of WW1. Sure, they're both piston fighters, but a lot can change within that category in 20-30 years. The difference might not be quite as dramatic as with aviation, but it's still pretty noticeable regardless.
