Ok, so the compendium file is still underway. The wonders are mostly done, while most of the horrors have plenty of lore to be quick enough. Once done, we can go back to compiling the document. Progress feels slow these last couple of threads, but it's mostly due to the setting being pretty much complete at this point. The only thing left is adding images, finding some inconsistencies/incomplete bits and rewriting it all into a summarized version that could be used by most people.

Do not throw the towel now that we are so close, people. We have lasted more than a year and near 1k pages of lore, we can make the final push and finish this.

>Fehrum Edzulair
The Fehrum Edzulair complex is a massive magical fortification located at the top of a floating island above the Lake of Wolves that serves as the slumbering place of Dragongod Phorsiussarx and the residence of the now extinct Cult of Phorsiussarx. It is not exactly know when the structure was built, but legends tell that the early khenomeri became the first humans to discover the resting place for the dragongod, and many of them were charged with keeping the entity’s sleep undisturbed. Over the years, the Cult of Phorsiussarx build what was essentially a small city around the original structure, something that took millennia due to the sheer difficulty of bringing the materials to the top of the floating island. However, the arrival of the gnoll turned out to be the end of the cult, as after a long and grinding siege from 2.563 to 2.576 ABE, the gnolls managed to destroy every member of the Cult of Phorsiussarx. The war did not end there, as the dragongod himself then took to fight the gnoll for many decades afterwards, only finally submitting to the Gnoll Empire after the Nameless managed to infect Phorsiussarx with cursed maggotgnolls.
>>
>>91708364
The greatest mystery of Fehrum Edzulair is the fact that it has been floating in the air for many millennia, standing near a kilometer up above the lake. How it manages to do so it’s a mystery, though many astromancers argue that there is a massive core of aether within the floating island that keeps the piece of land in the air. The floating island is connected to the bottom of the lake by titanic chains, made out of indestructible metal. The island moves around in circular patterns depending on the winds and the air currents. There is no way to arrive at the top without climbing the massive chains, something that the cult used to facilitate by adding strong ropes in between the chains. Indeed, many in the world considered that the members of the Cult of Phorsiussarx were the most gifted climbers in the world to be able to go up and down, and reaching the top unaided was a test to be allowed into the order.
>>
>>91708379
The fortress itself can be divided into two sections: first, the town area where the cult lived. Over the centuries, the members of the Cult of Phorsiussarx had crafted small but delicate structures: temples, fountains, markets, libraries… all with a great attention to detail, as bringing further materials from the world below was a grueling task, so no failure was permitted. Much of this art has been lost due to the Wars of Heaven, that brought a great deal of destruction to the fortress, both as a result of the gnolls’ rampage and of Phorsiussarx’ retribution. The second area is the layer of the dragongod itself. At the highest peak of the island, there lies a massive construction, a building with a singular room, closed by titanic doors made out of trees not seen since the beginning of days. Only the dragongod himself has the strength to open and close these doors without magic, and so the highest members of the cult used to enter through a series of tunnels now considered lost. Within this place, there lies the mighty Phorsiussarx, sleeping after his defeat at the hands of the Nameless.

>Etera, the Sapphire City
The city of Etera, also known as “the Sapphire in the Mountains” or the “Sapphire City” used to be the center of the nation of Etera, one of the oldest known civilizations in the history of Giantstep. The city occupies a great portion of land, massive even in comparison to some of the biggest populated centers in current year, but the study of the city itself is incredibly difficult due to the magical spell that protects Etera. Indeed, a colossal force field surrounds the entirety of the city, and because of that, nothing can come in or out. Attempts of going across by moving from above or below have resulted in failures, as the force field is a seemingly perfect sphere that goes all the way down into the earth. The force field itself only lets light go through, and that is how we know the city of Etera is still on the other side. Studies over the long millennia have proven that whatever spell that holds the city within its grasp also prevents time to have an effect on the city, as no matter how long has passed, the city seems impervious to decay or ruin, being just the way it was when the spell was supposedly first cast. The city has been abandoned from as long as anyone can remember, and not a single living thing has been detected from the outside of the force field, with many rumors, tales and legends talking about the possible fate of the ancient eterans.
>>
>>91715606
Exploration of the city of Etera has been complicated, though there have been many drawn plans of the city, with artists, wizards and other experts flying over the city with magic or other mounts. The city itself seems to be organized in a spiral plan, with the center of the city occupied by a castle of ancient design, a circular structure of beehive-like shape that is crowned by the typical shinning blue roofs that are common in the entire city. Surrounding it, a massive open area believed to be reserved for open markets or public celebrations. The city also includes multiple buildings believed to be either temples or palaces, though the lack of identifiable iconography makes categorizing them quite difficult. Strangely enough, one can also see multiple empty areas, circular in shape and multiple blocks in size, inscribed with strange spiral runes. Some wizards believe that these are just the ritual works that generate the force field, though trying to replicate the strange inscriptions is utterly forbidden in case that the unknown magic wielded end up creating another impassable bubble somewhere else.
>>
Not sure what else to write about Etera. I imagine there are more things that can be said, but I can't think of any.

>The Grand Unifying Theory

The Grand Unifying Theory is a popular theological concept among secular minded western scholars. It argues that all the world’s religions are different viewpoints of the same group of divine entities. The theory goes that there is one top tier creator god, 20-30 second and third tier gods, and countless lesser gods, demi-gods, and other divine beings, but that different religions focus on different tiers, with Monotheistic Religions focusing on the top god, Pantheon Religions focusing on one or more individuals of the middle tier, and Guardian Spirit Type Religions focusing on the lesser divine beings relevant to their geographic area.

>Monotheistic Religions

Monotheistic religions emphasize the one Creator God, seeing (nearly) all other divine entities as direct servants of this one individual (or misinterpretations and false gods). Examples of this include the one God worshipped by the followers of the Nine Saints, as well as certain interpretations of the Earthmother, the All-Father, and the god of the Joos.
>>
>>91725608

>Pantheon Religions

Pantheon religions believe that the creator god has become largely disengaged from the day to day management of reality and that emphasis should be on the next tier or two of gods who they see as having responsibility over the continued function of this world. Some Pantheon religions focus entirely on a single god (while acknowledging the existence of others), others as many as 30. There is a lot of debate over “which gods correspond to which” across different cultures as roles rarely line up well from one religion to the next, but there are certain archetypes that appear in most cultures who are seen by many as the same being viewed through different cultural lens:

- The Creator God – Most religions agree there is just one being who is responsible for the initial creation of this world. Some religions focus heavily on this god (see Monotheistic religions) but others see them as relatively disengaged and as having no more influence over the affairs of mortals than the next tier or two of gods below them. Some pantheons depict this individual as male (the All-Creator, The Celestial Father, The Great Gold Lion, Amu, etc.), some as female (the Earthmother, Marusia, The Mother of the Earth, Gaia, Ulgnah/Ignah, etc.), and some as having both male and female aspects (Treesoul, Queveron, etc.). The creator god is often associated with fertility, plants, and the earth.
>>
>>91725613

- The Three Sisters – A trio of goddesses that show up in many religions in some form or other, though their exact roles can vary.

-- The Mother Goddess – Secondary creator goddess, often seen as a daughter of the Creator God, but sometimes as a wife. She is present in most pantheons, but fills different roles in each one. Many races believe she had a direct hand in their creation and that she favors them over other races. She is often associated with crops and fertility, except in some areas where the Creator God already fills that niche (though some areas simply have two similar gods) and other areas where she is seen as more of a protector. Examples include Nathra (northwest), Meritele (west), Ashtor (southeast), Forlaitha, Freggya and Aurelia (all northeast). A more unusual example sometimes cited is The Great Mother Toad.

-- The Moon/Magic Goddess – Usually seen as a daughter of the Creator God. Said to have been created to guide the development of mortals, though she is said to have helped create some races directly as well. Associated with magic, knowledge, nighttime, creativity, art, and dreams. She is often associated with owls, but also sometimes snakes. Comes in many different forms including Irem, Eili, Miruna, Kagal, Nuit, Aoghm, Aobhunnun, Uana, etc. According to some pantheons she has several daughters who she shares her responsibilities with.

-- The Prosperity Goddess – Usually seen as another daughter of the Creator God. Associated with love, beauty, successful harvests, summer, prosperity, wealth, and luck. Examples include Zolovara, Sadva, and Solstara. The Twin Goddesses of the Drunigs may represent two aspects of her. Said to have been involved in the creation of several races.

- The Brothers – A group of gods, who along with the Three Sisters, created most of the world’s demigods, faerie lords, animal spirits, and many of its mortal races. The exact number varies by religion.

-- The Hedonist – Usually seen as a son of the Creator God. Created along with the Prosperity Goddess to ensure mortals feel joy in their lives. Associated with excess, wine, lust, indulgence, and autumn. Often seen as being a bit of a trickster. In some cultures, there is overlap between some of his roles, and those of the more benevolent aspects of the Gluttony God. Takes many different shapes in different cultures including a young male or female (Audric and Razvratnik), an older lecherous male (Oengus), or a pile of food (Onba). Many fey races and faerie lords claim to be descended from him.

-- The Beast Lord – Usually seen as a son of the Creator God, but some see him as a demon who managed to convince mortals to include him in their pantheons. In some cultures his role is merged with (or at least heavily overlaps with) that of the Dark Mother. He is often seen as the creator of many predators, both animal and sentient, including certain unseelie fey and animal spirits. Examples include Gorn and Zverukitel.

-- The Storm/Winter/Wind God – Usually seen as a son of the Creator God who was tasked with managing climates and weather patterns. Often seen as harsh and uncaring. Examples include Kartaluk and Firn. Said to have created many of the world’s flying creatures, fey, and animal and nature spirits.

-- The Forest God – Usually seen as a son of the Creator God who was tasked with protecting forests and jungles. Said to be the creator of many plant based fey and nature spirits who help him in his task. Examples include Silvin and Soshotnik.

- The Three Guardians – It is said they were created by the Creator God to protect the world from excursions by hostile foreign gods and demons. Each was assigned one third of the world to protect.

-- Bronzar – Protects the west and uses dragons as divine servants. He has a large number of followers (Azan Faith and variants) who acknowledge the existence of other gods, but feel given Bronzar’s strong emphasis on smiting evil and encouraging social stability, there is little need for worshipping other gods. Bronzar is the most hardline of the Guardians and is said to not get along with a number of other gods who he sees as more lenient towards demons and such. It didn’t help that in ancient times his divine dragon servants meddled in affairs far outside his portion of the world.

-- Vursid/Wurna – Protects the north and uses animal spirits as his divine servants, though he often empowers followers directly (usually only for a short period of time) instead of creating new servants. Unlike Bronzar, he seems to feel a certain level of violence is required to keep societies from becoming too soft, and as a result has become a war god in addition to his role as defender of his region against demons and such.

-- Tauora – Protects the east and uses lamassu and a few other such beings as her servants. According to followers of Bronzar and Wurna, she became either corrupt or complacent and stopped filling her original role and became too concerned with the opinions of her mortal followers. Mostly found in the Khenomeric and Gilgameshi Pantheons, but Lamagash of the Cowmen is thought to be somehow linked to her as well.

- The Ocean Gods – It is said there are several distinct ocean gods created to manage different oceans. Examples include Brezz (northwest), Axile (west), Argon (south), Rusalochka (east), and Legoluboy (north). In the northwest there are several other ocean gods whose lineage is unclear, such as Caijin. Some are said to be powerful faerie lords, and others are said to be outsider gods. The Ocean Gods have a range of behaviors ranging from warm and nurturing to harsh and uncaring depending on their respective ocean. Several oceanic races are said to have been created by them.

- The Gods of Death – Although some theorize there are only one or two gods of death that take many different forms in different cultures, others feel there are several gods who are all related to one another. In many religions, it is said the original God of Death was created by the Creator God to oversee the movement of mortal souls between various dimensions. The God of Death had several children with other gods in order to create several lesser gods of death who could help him with this task. At some point there was a falling out among those who wanted to remain focused on their original task and saw the undead as an abomination, and those who wanted to interfere in the affairs of mortals by using their powers to create and control the undead. Those who wanted to stop the undead include Corvic (northwest) and Mirslava (northeast), while those who use the undead as servants include Uruc (southeast), Shamhna and Saelm (northeast), and Zanzarah (north).
>>
>>91725659

- The Dark One/The Dark Mother – Many cultures have a god or goddess (usually a goddess) associated with witchcraft and other dark magic, as well as self-reliance and trickery. It is said this individual helped create many of the darker aspects of this world including many of the unseelie fey (particularly hags) as well as dark nature spirits, poisonous plants, and patient predators. There is much debate on the true nature of this being. Some say he/she is the mortal interpretation of the darker aspects of the Creator God or the Magic God. Others think he/she is a demon or an outsider god who managed to enter this world early enough to become woven into its cultural and metaphysical fabric. Examples of this god include Murga, The Dark One, Crnya, Hekatarina, and Jesmeralda. She/he is also associated with Uun according to a few fringe religions and theories.

- The God of Action and the Goddess of Harmony – These two gods appear in several different pantheons and religions. They seem to enjoy meddling in each other’s affairs. Given their low profile in most creation myths, their high levels of direct contact with mortals, and their tendency to focus most of their energy in one geographical area at a time, it is commonly believed they are outsider gods (see below).

- Other Gods – A number of other gods show up in some pantheons but not others. Some of the more common ones include the Goddess of Greed, and the Sun Goddess.
>>
>>91725668

- Lesser Gods and Demigods – In many religions the gods had offspring with each other, who in turn had offspring, with each generation getting weaker than the last. Every religion seems to have different interpretations of who is related to who and what roles these lesser gods play. Some of them have never had dedicated followers or other indications of interacting directly with the mortal world and may just be fictional entities meant to explain certain natural phenomenon. Others entities claiming direct ancestry of the gods are extremely powerful in certain areas like the Bog-Witch or the Bright Ones of Faarowt.

- The Outsider Gods – There are a number of gods that many religions and metaphysical researchers consider to be from outside the dimensions created by this universe’s Creator God. Some are incomprehensible cosmic horrors (sometimes known as Far Outsiders), while others appear as superpowered mortals with relatable goals. Some pantheon religions shun these individuals, but others consider them to be valid entities to worship. The worst of the outsider gods are the demons (see below). Some pantheon religions, particularly in the south, make no distinction between “original” and “outsider” gods and their creation stories claim all gods, demon lords, and other such individuals were involved in the creation of the world from the beginning and that they are all offspring of the Creator God. Commonly cited examples include Uun and the God of Action, but many other gods are considered to be outsider gods by one group or another.
>>
>>91725682

>Guardian Spirit Type Religions

These religions believe all the gods have become disengaged from mortal affairs and instead focus their worship on lesser divine entities they feel look out for their particular culture/region/tribe. Alternately, they simply don’t distinguish between the gods and lesser divine entities. These lesser divine entities may be Faerie Lords (common throughout the north), animal and nature spirits (common throughout the south but some in the north and central areas as well), or a mortal they believe (correctly or not) has ascended to demigod status (Nine Saints, certain drow gods, Dihong Xinjianng, Changrilan God-Emperors, Gilgam, the Emperors of Elanxa, Avangar, etc.)

>Demon Worship

There is no real consensus on which evil gods are demons, which are hostile outsider gods, and which are indigenous gods to this world who are simply dark by nature. Common traits associated with powerful demon lords include granting power in return for evil acts, having armies of evil beings at their disposal, and an interest in conquering parts of this world by making breaches in reality. Demon worshippers are outlawed in most nations and therefore often operate in secret, seeking out the power hungry and depraved. Entities often considered to be demons include Mg’umba, Gogotha/Gogothi/Gozer, the Spider Goddess, the Volcano God, Nuckelavee, the Glutton God, Althazzar, Raksasa, and Ulek-Mol. Some cultures also consider the darker of the gods of death and some other gods like the Dark Mother and the Beast Lord to be demons as well.

After reading this, I really like this as a summary of all the divinity and gods in the setting. Only points of contention that I have is:

>Sun Goddess as Other Gods
It is kind of weird to leave the Sun Goddess as "other gods", since suns are kind of important. There has to be a category for solar/lunar gods, especially when these stellar bodies change each year.

>The Gluttony God among demon deities?
What exactly makes the Glutton god demonic in nature? I see the others having at least one of the criteria you mentioned but the glutton god, either in its benevolent form or in its Maw form.

>Goddess of Harmony as a fairy
No way she is represented as that. In the wiki page, she is described as " The Harmony Goddess is usually represented as a young woman caring for aspects of nature, with long hair twirling in seemingly never ending curls". She is also tied with bee imagery, so that can be added as well.
>>
>>91726868
>It is kind of weird to leave the Sun Goddess as "other gods", since suns are kind of important
I was working with the existing material. So far I think there are only two sun gods/goddesses in the setting and they have almost zero lore. Also the agriculture niche is already pretty crowded, so I would have to think of something for them to do in cultures that aren't desert or heavily focused on crops. If I ever do the Khenomeric Pantheon I may link them to fire creatures and fire magic

>What exactly makes the Glutton god demonic in nature?
Association with several dangerous cannibalistic races. Also he has a demon breach associated with him that is kept open with sacrifices

>No way she is represented as that. In the wiki page, she is described as
It is a reference to a discussion a while back about which god would be the "Christmas God". She would be depicted very differently in the Harmony Goddess's Realm and by the Bombus

>She would be depicted very differently in the Harmony Goddess's Realm and by the Bombus
In her own realm, she would be described as "the young woman caring for aspects of nature, with long hair twirling in seemingly never ending curls", and the Bombus would describe her as the Mother of Honey (probably the same, but in Bombus form).

I tried to generate some versions of what the Goddess of Harmony would look like. The three first ones would be the more accurate, though probably with clothes more akin to buddhist monk robes (the ai keeps ignoring that for some reason).

I forgot that i was shit at drawing, someone else will have to take care of the flags and the coat of arms.

Currently making the COA of the azan empire, what should i put on the shield, i checked the wiki and one of the various flags contains a shield with a rose in it so i am probably going with that.
In the meanwhile i'll be working on the supporters, the mantle, the motto, the helm and probably the crest. For now i just did the shield and the collar.

I was thinking about using this flag for Gvilderstateen too, since they are still de jure part of the empire, similar to real life Australia that still has the union jack on its flag.

Essakor and Nananikor are the two cities known to have been capitals although there are probably more. I seem to recall Narses was a capital in all but name for a while as well. Not to mention all of the drow and hobbit fuckery where you have entire dynasties that ruled without a capital city and/or were a permanent campaign. Originally the lore was simply that the capital moved from Essakor to Nananikor in the 8th dynasty but a lot of anons kinda missed that so Nananikor is often referred to as capital before that point, which was kinda back-canoned in. Essakor is notable IIRC for being a much less prestigious capital as the imperial palace was more of a fortress/citadel than a Versailles type thing. If you wanted to you could write something to the effect of the capital changing pretty often until emperor Azadopolous LXIII "the bankrupter" built a giant palace in Nananikor and moving there from the at the time capital of Essakor and no emperor moving it since because the palace is so luxurious.

>Great Royal Palace of Nananikor
The Great Royal Palace of Nananikor is a palatial complex built around the 18th century ABE. It is one of the many palaces built within the capital over the years, and the biggest within the city by far. Its origins lay as a hunting lodge at the outskirts of the city all the way back when the city was not nearly as big as it is today. As the city grew, the forest near the hunting lodge receded to make use of its resources, allowing for a great deal of space for construction. It would be then when the emperor Azadopolous IV would begin his project of a new palatial complex. Worried about the capital moving between cities every couple of decades due to political squabbling, Azadopoulos decided to settle it in Nananikor once and for all. To that end, he decided to begin the construction of the Great Royal Palace, which would serve as both the residence for the azanese imperial family and as the final seat of government. The project quickly grew out of control, occupying such an area within Nananikor that people started to name it “the city within a city”. Indeed, despite the rule of Azadopoulos IV starting at the beginning of the 18th century, the basic buildings would not be done until the end of the century, and would get Azadopoulous IV the title of “the spendthrift” due to the enormous expenses in the construction. From then on, every couple of centuries the palace would get expanded, including a double defensive wall built during the days of the war against the witchelven.
>>
>>91760610
The Great Royal Palace of Nananikor includes over twenty different buildings, surrounded by gardens and carefully crafted roads. Many of these buildings are dedicated to administrative and diplomatic endeavors, as well as for the enjoyment of the royal family. Some of the most important include the Theatre of Valeria the Sage, the Royal Archives, the headquarters of the Archaeological Society of Azan, Princess Videlia Gallery of Art, the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Astromantic Academy of Adizhar. It also includes the Royal Stables and multiple fortresses for the garrisons watching over the complex. The main building is House of Azan, the gathering place for the Advisory Council of the Azure, in which they reunite and discuss matters of politics. The House of Azan has a circular plan design, surrounded by a set of columns holding the entablature. Above it we find a hollow second level, left only to allow light to enter into the building. Above it, a massive dome elevated by a tholobate, once again holding another entablature with a row of columns. The outer side of the dome is decorated with fine purple and white mosaics following detail geometric and vegetal patterns. The House of Azan is within a cloister that connects it with the rest of the building, a more basilical structure that holds a great room full of delicate glass ornaments and mirrors.

Anything else we could add?
>>
>>91755034
Yes it would, i imagine monarchies would have knighthood orders that give the players solid advatages inside the realm while republics would treat knighthood orders as something more symbolic and that doesn't make you above other citizens.

I apologize in advance for using the Azan Empire but it's one of the most developed nations so it's very good as a testing ground for new ideas, if someone doesn't agree with the use of Azan as a setting i'll change it.

Monastic order: The fraternal order of the faceless one's faithfuls.
"The fraternal order of the faceless one's faithfuls is a monastic order in the Azan empire that follows the Azan faith, in particular the old faith branch.
The order is the most ancient in all of the empire and it is known to be one of the main driving force in the assistance to the poors in Azan, to the point that they have been renamed by some as <<The popular saints of Azan>>.
The order is also known for its simplicity in pragmatical matters, their members wear very simple robes and distinguish their ranks only trough the use of colours: black for the ordinary members, green for the head of the local administration and white for the head of the order, we can also see how their management structure is simple as well.
Everything too complicated or excessively sophisticated must be refused and instead swapped with something simple and humble, that's the main tenet of the order, other than the assistance to the poors and the worship of Bronzar.
Aza is considered the ultimate prophet of Bronzar, the rejection of the new faith by the order has brought the figure of Hiranur under a significant shade, however that doesn't mean that she is considered a bad person by the order wich praises her message of charity and love, she is not considered a prophet by most of the order though."

What do you think? feedback is always accepted, especially if i broke some lore rules.
>>
>>91766587
>it's one of the most developed nations so it's very good as a testing ground for new ideas
Honestly, I would say it's the other way around, as the more lore a place has, the more chances you have of tripping over a bit of lore you missed. Plus, writing about the lesser talked about places will help balancing out the different places.

>On a matter of gameplay, we can make the prizes useful by making them boosters for certain stats of the players (for example a medal can give you a boost in charisma).
Considering we have been prioritizing the lore parts so much over gameplay, probably best to think of in-story uses before adding mechanics.
