Ok, so continuing with the card game idea, we have plenty of proposed cards and abilities, so we can just start designing a small amount of them to try to figure out the more finnicky aspects of the mechanics.

Ok, starting with the cards of Azan. Here are a couple of notes for each:

>Azanese Legionnaire
I wanted the Azanese legionnaire to be a bit of a template for the bog-standard soldier unit. 3/3/3 plus Solid formation (The unit gains +1 defense when paired with another card of the same name. This effect does not pile up. If the unit ends up alone, it loses this effect) ought to do the trick. But we have to check on the maintenance costs.

>Azanese Arquebusier
The arquebusier’s main use is the Gunpowder Volley (2) ability, but I didn’t want to make it completely vulnerable on actual combat. Not sure whether I should buff the skill, increase its stats or leave it as is.

>Azanese Skirmisher
Not sure what skill to give it, if any, really.

>Azanese Spy
The “infiltrator” ability looks kind of busted the way it’s written (A unit with this ability can attack a population in the opponent's area directly, regardless of the opponent's populations in No Man's Land.) Probably needs a bit of “that unit cannot take over the population even if it defeats its defenders in combat”. Regardless, I’m not sure what other fitting skill should be added, if any.

>Azanese Horse Gunner
I feel it’s too similar to Azanese Arquebusier, and everyone would pick it over the arquebusier. Any suggestions to differentiate them aside from cost?

>Azanese Cataphract
This is the elite unit for Azan, and also one of the most expensive. This is one of those units you can’t afford too many of them, otherwise you’ll go bankrupt, but with one leading the charge it makes a significant difference.

>Azanese Light Cavalry
Needs to be changed in order to not compete with the legionnaire
>>
>>93221789
>"Dragon Breath" Cannon
Considering this is an anti-infantry artillery piece design to weaken enemy units over time, maybe its attack it’s too high.
>Azanese Priest
An unit to boost others, maybe to add a skill that protect them from intimidation-style skills?

>Orontian Knight
A more glass-cannon version of the cataphract, not sure if the low-stamina tradeoff is good enough to differentiate both of them.

>Orontian Peasant Levy
Nothing in particular.

>Orontian Peasant Archer
Nothing in particular.

>Gäutlan Dwarf Legionnaire
As dwarves, a strong attack/defens but poor stamina fits.

>Gäutlan Dwarf Boar Rider
I just realized that the Rideable Boar does not have a description. Will add it once I find a moment.
>>
>>93221853
Also, not sure what skills and statline should the azanese characters have.

>Azanese Lord Captain

>Archer
What power difference should there be between handgunners and archers, if any?

Could you at least come up with something new instead of dragging out this long dead corpse of a failed "setting"?
>>
>>93227235
Thing is, I have thought of closing this for a long time, it has been completed to a considerable degree (the amount of depth of this was, ironically enough, one of the things that dragged it down) and the lack of activity shows there's not that much interest anymore. However, it frustrates me to no end to not have something close to a closure for this, something to show for all the work all anons have done over the two years this thing has been active. The wiki is nice, though like all wiki things it doesn't follow a concise throughline, and the compendium is exceedingly slow to work out when there's no feedback nor help with it. I imagined the card game would be useful for it, but it seems it hasn't gained that much traction either.

I don't know, I just feel like it'd be a shame to let just end without something at least cohesive. So much effort and discussion has been poured over this setting, at the very least I'd like some final compilation and/or cleanup to put a bow on it and move on.

Fixing the boar thing.

>Blue-Tongue Boar
The Blue-Tongue Boar is a species of warthog living in many areas of Giantstep. The species is believed to be a diminutive version of an ancient kind of boar that inhabited the land eons ago, but that now is extinct. The Blue-Tongue Boar is slightly smaller than a horse, between 1.4 and 1.5 meters of height, with the females being about 20 cm shorter. These boars have been domesticated by the dwarves for many millennia, though what drove them to their domestication is a matter of discussion, as many question why they bothered with the boar instead of trying it with other mounts like the horse or the camel. Many believe the primitive dwarves used the boars’ heightened sense of smell to find underground roots and tubers during their travels, before moving onto an underground hold. Indeed, the amount of blue-tongue boars nowadays is limited to surface dwarves, as the blue-tongue boar does not take well to an underground living, often serving either as a beast of burden or as a warmount. Generally speaking, only the males are fit for warmounts, as the females are generally more cautious and docile unless they are still weening their young. Male blue-tongue boars need to be tamed from a very early age if they want to serve as dwarven war mounts, as they are not particularly smart animals, and an untrained blue-tongue boar will never be able to be of use on the battlefield.

The blue-tongue boar is famous for the strange coloration of their tongue, having an unusual shade of aquamarine blue. It is believed that the bluer the tongue is, the healthier an individual is. It also shows smaller but tougher tusks than other species of hogs, which tend to grow quickly. Dwarves need to constantly polish and sand the tusks, otherwise they can grow so big they cannot close their mouth, making them unable to chow their food.

What would be a good idea for a new setting?
>>
Actually, I just thought of something for the compendium. Is there a decent program to join together multiple PDFs? If we capture in PDF each of the wiki pages, we may be able to join them together into a single document. It's not the most subtle solution, but at this point better brute-force it than nothing.
>>
One anon suggested to use this project as an inspirational goldmine of sorts. The issue this setting suffers from is that it's all over the place, "cluttered" and internally disconnected. That being said individual parts of it are quite far developed, original and honestly pretty good. We could use these parts as starting points for new settings to develop around them.

I mean, it was a "fill the map with your ideas" kind of setting, it's honestly impressive it's as coherent as it is.

Stoked this is still going strong. Did anyone finish the list of the Seven Sacred Swords of Azan?
>>
>>93242472
The rest of the swords were mentioned and briefly described, but nothing beyond that.
>>
>>93242472
>Windwand
>Firebrand
>Luminor - Alleged to be the personal sword of Azam, used as Imperial regalia for several Azanese dynasties

>Moon's Edge - Forged by an azanese monk using the fire of ancient dragons and a piece of metal said to have fallen from a moon. It was lost during the Battle of Empires and was never recovered. Some say it's still there today, but noone has ever been able to find it.

>Mudslicer (probably not original name) - The defenses (along the troll-Changrila border) are led by Royal-General Castle Troll who wields one of the Seven Sacred Swords, Mudslicer, the least powerful but still one of the seven. Castle found the sword while on a contract in Dsrvyth.

>Ocean's Spear
A very long pike, it is said that the head was once a holy blade made by Bronzar himself, but it was damaged during a fight in the heavens. The azanese priests decided to remake it as a spear instead.

>Shadowhisper (The Lying Sword)
A dark blade that absorbs all light that touches, it is said it was done out of a piece of Althazzar that was torned up by either Bronzar or Azan himself. It is also the most dangerous to use, as it generates a growing addiction to its use, feeling as if it was whispering in the user's head to spill blood. Its whereabouts are unknown.

I remember someone mentioning the bog witch swamps as the base for a more focused setting/game system. At this point I'm not against that idea, though I still want to finish the compendium for Giantstep in general.

The thing about the Dominion of the Bog Witch is that it's incredibly isolated from the rest of the world. It is a self-contained area that's affected very little by the outside. It does influence the nearby areas around the swamps, though, so that's a thing.

>>93238525
>One anon suggested to use this project as an inspirational goldmine of sorts

I created a new map in order to try to summarize the setting with as few words as possible. The idea is that someone unfamiliar with the setting can hone in on stuff that interests them with very little effort, whether to scavenge for world-building ideas or just out of general interest. I also poke fun at the nature of how many nations' lore started and evolved, though honestly pretty much all "creative" types just mix and match stuff from other sources.

It is also kind of a final tribute to the setting since it is nearly dead. I will be unable to post for the next two weeks, so if this ends up being the final thread it has been an honor worldbuilding with you all.

Is it really, though? That would fit the Red Lotus much better.
>>
>>93260372
Red Lotus is basically just the Taiping Rebellion with slight changes

But given both Elanxa and Red Lotus are personality cults (and North Korea and Taiping), it makes sense they are somewhat similar

>>
>>93257999
As an outside observer it baffles my mind you people stuck with it for so long. Sure, there are some good parts, but the sheer volume of shit ideas is simply impossible to ignore. And it's not like you were above filtering stuff, so I don't understand why, especially after there were only like 3 and a half posters left, you didn't just take an axe to it and rewrite shit into something more coherent.
>>
>>93261954
Some bits were rewritten after a while, but in general the rule was to respect the previous written stuff as much as possible. There was a ton of completion and world development after the initial ideas were decided.
>>
>>93261954
>>93262107
Problem is no one really agrees on what is interesting in the setting. Some wanted stuff based on real history or low fantasy, some wanted it to be a fairly standard mid-to-high fantasy setting, some wanted coom, and some wanted maximum focus on homebrew races and critters
>>
>>93262541
Yes, and this was inevitable in a "fill the blank map with your ideas" kind of setting. I see the variety as a bonus, and trying to join together a long series of random ideas into a coherent whole was quite fun.

Ok, so here is the thing. I've tried to capture the wiki pages with the print PDF option from the browser, and the results are quite poor. So back to the Google Doc compendium.

Here are the two big compendium files I've been preparing. The only major thing I have left to do is to dump the individual region's lore into their appropiate place, but it's a considerable slow job. That and adding images when required. If someone could please help me with the copypasting process, it'd help immensely.

Apparently there was a dinosaur mod for IC for a while, that got me to make some more critters.

>Tricebug
Tricebugs are alchemical insects the size of a chicken’s hachling. They fly in small flocks of a dozen or so individuals, searching for ripe fruit to eat, and as such they are quite despised by farmers. They are very lousy flyers, and their weight in relation to their wings’ size makes them generate a terrible buzz when moving. They use this sound in conjunction with their horns to intimidate possible predators, darting down and swooping from the sky. However, all in Sidarí know that tricebugs are very cowardly creatures that quickly fly away if they are offered a minimum of resistence. Thus, when hearing their characteristic buzz, many sidarian farmers will pick up paddles and try to swat the flock until it goes away.

>Rattlelolophus
Rattlelolophus are very strong snake-like alchemical creatures. Measuring about 15 meters of length, they are some of the biggest creatures in Sidarí. However, they are gentle giants, eating grass and other vegetable matter. They move in herd of 10 individuals, travelling around marking their ground everywhere they pass through. While they can slither at very fast speeds, they prefer to move slowly to save energy, using their position close to the ground to hide from predators. They have a great sense of smell and sight, so when one of them detects possible danger, they will rise into an upright position. Their strong muscular abdomens allow them to rise their head almost 8 meters high, serving as a very intimidating display. If that does not work, they will begin to honk to scare away their potential assailants, as well as to warn the rest of the group. If they physically have to defend themselves, they will try to confuse their opponent with as much noise as possible, between honks and the rattling of their tails. If this doesn’t work, however, they will all scatter in different directions, all taking turns to cause as much noise while the rest remain silence, to try to disorient their hunter until it loses them or gives up.

Deynoneagles are small pack hunters the size of turkeys. Hunting in groups of 10, they were some of the most dangerous creatures during the initial days of the release of all alchemical creatures in Sidarí. They were particularly vicious against sheep and slow cattle, creating gouging cuts into them and letting them bleed to death, eating as much as possible and running away before the farmers could chase after them (which was easier said than done, considering they were also quite fast). This caused the sidarians to specifically target them as one of the more threatening critters around. However, they quickly discovered that they had a strange custom that limited their numbers considerably. Every time they saw a point high enough from the ground, they would invariably try to climb to the top and jump from it, usually breaking bones and even dying from the impact. This is believed to be a mistake in the process of alchemical creation, possibly having a strong flying instinct, but without any wings whatsoever, they simply try to move their arms while they fall to their doom. Nowadays, their numbers are limited, though they are still quite dangerous to the local economy, and seasonal hunts of deynoneagles are common, driving them deeper and deeper into the mountains. Deynoneagles are also one of the critters that has managed to expand further outside of Sidarí, in particular in the chakobsian jungles, where they hunt goblins and other jungle animals.

Stegginsticks are alchemical insectoid creatures the size of chicken eggs. They feed off decomposing matter, both of plant and animal origin. Their keen senses allow them to detect rotting matter from miles, and they will congregate in considerable numbers. Once they arrive to a food source, they instinctively move alongside each other, using their back plates and tail spikes to create rows that makes taking them down individually difficult. These are also coated with a very irritating poison, at once causing extreme itch and dizzying the victim. They are also quite crunchy, making chewing them difficult and tedious, hightening the chances of hurting themselves with the poisoned plates. Outside of this, they have little in terms of defenses, so they can often die in the hundreds when they gather in enough numbers. They manage to endure due to their fast reproductive cycles, as they also use these gatherings to mate, keeping their numbers stable. Because of this, they form part of many sidarian critters’ diet.

>Towering Whale
Towering Whales are an alchemical behemoth believed to have been successfully driven away from Sidarí, though there have been sightings of these in the shores near the Sea of Fog. These creatures were the biggest alchemical entities ever sighted in Sidarí, being 1.5 times the size of mammoths. Because of this size, they were some of the biggest threats during the during the initial days of the release of all alchemical creatures in Sidarí, as their need for food and water outmatched the environment’s ability to replenish it. Despite this, they were gentle giants, eating only plants and river vegetation, though due to their massive size they simply trampled any structure near the rivers they move along. Their need for food and water also made them move towards the sea, with the sidarians having to collaborate with the ta’lunasir authorities to keep damages to a minimum. Once they arrived into the sea, they dove into the depths, as they turned out to prefer a completely underwater lifestyle over living in the surface. However, once every five years, the towering whales come to the shores to lay eggs, occupying many of the beaches of the region. Nowadays, they have been sighted in shores of Gilgemash and the Moonlight Shores, with authorities keeping an eye of them, as they can become quite aggressive if they feel their hatchlings are in danger. Due to their rarity and exotic nature, many hunters try to catch them during the year and a half they spend on the shores feeding their young, which can in turn cause stampedes that threaten the nearby coastal towns.

>Plesiofish
Pleistofishes are a species of alchemical fish living in the biggest rivers that go across Sidarí. They are the size of salmons, and are some of the faster swimmers in their local ecosystem. They generally use this speed to swim back and forth across the river, searching for insects, larvae and smaller organisms floating around. They are considered a delicacy by local sidarians, as well as the ta’lunasir, and they consider catching them a sign of good fortune. However, these creatures have a keen instinct when it comes to fishers, and if they feel threatened, they will dart as fast as possible, jumping into the air, splashing and/or squirting water to distract their pursuers while they swim away. Because of this, some sidarians put nets above the rivers to try to catch them while in the air. Their scales are also quite valuable as they make for a material very resistant to abrasion.
