You are the son of a small manor lord near the small town of Reddington, located in the Kingdom of Castern. This story will follow through the life experiences that you readers will dictate. Let's begin.

What is your first name?

>Robert
>Willard

What is your last name?

Is your family a relatively new noble family or an old, impoverished line?

>Robert Fletcher
>Old impoverished line

Adding to thing:

>>
>>103738
You are Robert Fletcher. The Fletcher family is an old line, dating back to before the current monarchs on the throne. Throughout the decades, however, the Fletchers slowly declined in power and trade as the numerous kings and queens pandered towards those closer to the Northern Castern families, as well as those in the south. The final nail was struck in the coffin after your great-grandfather Edwin Fletcher was struck down in a rebellion. With his lands seized, your family was granted a small manor and your line disgraced. Your father has attempted to make amends for this, serving your liege Duke Edwyle loyally and with distinction.

Your early years were spent playing around the town with the peasants. During this time, who did you develop attraction towards?

You developed a particular liking towards girls, and at your maturing age, you spent your time seeking them out. That is, until you got caught by your father. Displeased, he sent you to squire with the aforementioned Duke Edwyle. At first you felt afraid, but then you grew accustomed to the daily schedule.

You trained with swords, armor, and horses for many hours during the day, and studying books about the court during the night. The local clergy wasn't too happy, but a few coin from winning a few combat oriented events quickly silenced their protests.

You had grown quickly over the last few years, gaining the moniker "Robert the Bull" due to your increasing size and prowess. Now, you had a chance to prove yourself. The Duke had been invited to the annual tournament in the capital. He can only bring two squires, however, so you have to draw straws. What do you choose?

You draw the first straw on the left. With a smile, you realize you're going to the tournament accompanied by your friend Arthur. Arthur was a squire, a bit older than you, but smaller in size and more focused towards the books.
The tournament would be divided into three parts. There would be a squire melee, then a joust between the knights and lords of the realm, followed by another melee. Sometimes a special squire or two would be allowed to participate in the regular events, and you were sure that you would be able to. You have a week until you depart. What do you do?

The week is spent training alone. You decided that the best way to ensure total victory was to train harder, better, and faster. You pushed yourself to the limit every day, and even began to notice a small difference. You had become better and controlling your horse, and even the armor seemed lighter. You spotted Arthur from time to time, hitting straw dummies with his sword over and over again. He was good, but certainly not the best. You slowly built up a preference towards a certain weapon. What is it?

You developed a proficiency for the sword and shield. Your great-grandfather was a notably fond user of the longsword. That ended when his wrist was chopped off. However, your brand was slightly different than usual. Due to your size, you were able to commission a much larger shield, providing cover for the majority of your body, plus the armor. Your sword was also modified, it was slightly longer and heavier than a regular sword, though not quite the weapon your grandfather had used.
You began the travel at dawn. After a few hours of watching the sun rise, you realized the need to converse with someone.

(CHARM FUCKING WINS)

"Aye m'lady, a beautiful day, but not as beautiful as you." You reply with as much charm as you can muster.

Rosanne looks over at you with a smile. Or maybe something more?
"I appreciate the compliment, Squire Fletcher." She pulls a kerchief from her bosom and hands it to you. "I wish you luck in the tournament."
You wrap the kerchief around the pommel of your sword, with a quick glance to make sure the Duke didn't see. It wouldn't be a good idea to anger him now. You have time to talk to another person.

You glance at behind you and Arthur meets your gaze. He winks, and then you know he heard the whole exchange. He probably won't be able to shut up about it later.

You saunter your horse towards Duke Edwyle. Edwyle was of the line of Ferraus, an old line like yours. Traditionally the Fletcher and Ferraus lines had been close allies, with many marriages in between them. That stopped for the most part after the loss of the majority of your lands. The Ferraus family has been generous as your liege lord, paying off your debts and securing your only manor after the defeat of your great-grandfather.

"My lord." You bow your head respectfully.
Edwyle nods back, signalling for you to sit up in your saddle. "I have full confidence in your ability to perform well in the tournament." He stated.
"Thank you my lord." His confidence means a lot to you, he has been your only major father figure for the last few years.
Duke Edwyle stays silent for a minute. "I do believe you will avenge many wrongs in the next few days." Before you can respond, the gates of the King's city appear in front of you.
A few hours later, you find yourself in a tent on the training grounds, as is tradition with first-time squires.

Torn between practice and a desire to explore the market, you decide to try both. You practice for an hour, pushing yourself to the limit, before washing up and heading to the market. The only thing you seem to get is a load of stares, but you manage to find a silk scarf. Your eloquence in speaking and brute size make a great team when haggling prices it seems. Before you know it, it will be morning. What else do you do?

The morning came faster than expected. You groggily stumbled out of your tent, packing your equipment and waking Arthur up from his slumber. Now, standing in the middle of the melee arena, you couldn't help but feel nervous. You were larger than most of the people here, but they had numbers should they choose to turn against you. You only have a few seconds before the melee begins. What is your plan?

The melee starts. At first you open your mouth to rally a few squires- then one of them makes the mistake of hitting you with a mace. That's all it takes before you go berserk.

You backhand the squire and send him flying into the dirt, then charge right into the melee with your shield up. You slowly fall into a rhythm between the twisting bodies around you.

Stab. Bash. Swing. Bash.
It doesn't take long before the other squires pile up around you. The other ones step back in fear before getting hit in the sternum with a dropped shoulder. As your thoughts clear, you realize the damage you caused. Many squires were just beginning to pick themselves up off of the ground, while others still lay unconscious. You also notice that Arthur was the squire you backhanded into the dirt.

You are crowned the winner of the tournament, and are granted a significant amount of prize money and an invitation to the melee with the other Lords.

Rubbing the bruises that have already started to appear on your body, you dropped off your equipment at the blacksmith's for repairs. You didn't see Arthur leaving the melee, you'll have to apologize later. Still... he should've known better. You look for Duke Edwyle, it'd be great to know more about the Lord's Melee before you enter it two days from now.
You find him strolling from the melee arena to his quarters.
"My lord, if I might as-" You begin, but your liege cuts you off.
"I know what you want to ask me. Follow." He leads you into a small office area in the wing of the small home he is staying in.
"The Lord's Melee is, as you guessed it, for Lords and other nobility. The majority of those that participate are veterans of the wars of the last decade, which is why the Lord's Melee is particularly known to have a brutal ending for a percentage of those that attend." He looks at your carefully.
"Your prowess is unmatched, and this is a great opportunity to bring prestige and honor to your house and mine." He pauses to take a sip of a drink in his hand. "Tomorrow is the joust, should you choose to attend I would like to have you note the form of those riding."
You stand up and bow your head. "Of course my lord."
You head to the tent and get some rest. The joust doesn't start until later the next day, so you could choose to rest or wake up early, and as they say, "carpe diem".

You walked to the market with Arthur, buying him an amulet to give to his ailing mother.
Arthur comes from an old line like yours, similarly impoverished. You've had slightly better luck, but perhaps if you both rise in the next few years you'll have a faithful ally.

As you walk back, you hear sounds of a scuffle and muffled screaming coming from a nearby alley. You and Arthur draw your weapons; it is a disgrace to be a squire without a sword. You have two options

One of the men ran towards you with a dagger, but a quick hit to the face broke his nose, and he fell to the ground. You decide to capture them. Kicking the first man to make sure he stays down, you quickly engage yourself in combat with the other four. They're common criminals, and wouldn't be able to stand up against a regular squire, much less you.
One of them breaks down the alley way, but Arthur appears out of the other end and knocks him straight onto his ass.
"I went checking around the corner to make sure this happened!" He yelled out gleefully. You grunt in return, disarming your last opponent and knocking his head straight against the wall.
Together, you and Arthur tie the men together with the rope that previously secured the woman. The lady attempted to dart out of the alley, but your exceptional stamina helped you manage to catch her.
"Are you alright?" You ask the woman.
She nods her head, almost impatiently. "Yes, thank you. If you'll excuse me, Sir Knight."
You almost chuckle. "I am no knight, only a squire. You could certainly understand her mistake."
The woman asked for your and Arthur's names, and the name of your lord before darting off into the street.
"That was peculiar." Arthur muttered, standing beside you. "Let's go turn these scum over to the bailiff."
The bailiff thanks both of you for turning these criminals in. He promises to send word of your deed to Duke Edwyle, and sends both you and Arthur to the tavern with a small bag of coin as thanks. Those men had been terrorizing the street for months, but couldn't be found.

You plop down next to Arthur, forgetting your knightly etiquette to relax and rub your bruises.
"I heard you were invited to the Lord's Melee." Arthur comments after taking a sip of a foul smelling liquid.
You nod in confirmation. You weren't a huge braggart, and you also knew Arthur to be a bit envious. "What do you know about it?"
Arthur thought a moment before replying. "The Lord's Melee is said to be one of the hardest events save from pitched battle. Whenever a squire is chosen, they're usually protected by a small group of lords to prove their worth. At least until the end."
That was interesting. You did doubt that any lord would endeavor to protect you, your size was threatening even if they were more skilled.

The night passed in a blur. You and Arthur stumbled back to your tents early to try and beat the hangover, but it was fruitless to try. You'd better secure something to dull the headache in the morning.
(I'm off for the night, I have AP testing on Friday so any updates will be a bit slower like today was. Feel free to leave suggestions if you have any!)

Pity, we get drunk that easily despite being a giant muscle mountain. Did our "friend" Arthur plan this? Did he want us to be drunk?

Quest is looking pretty good, looking forward to joining in.

Find an apothecary and ask for a hangover cure.
>>

Yes, good idea.
"If this doesn't work, I will come back and smash your head into the next wall.", just a reminder not to try to con us.

Wait aren't we just watching the jousting? Thought that and the lords melee were going to be separate. Hanging around and socializing during the jousting will be good for expanding on our courtly abilities in any case.
>>

But then we donĀ“t get to kick ass
>>

Ah, true! Reread that part, just watching...

Rosanne! We already won one melee. Check the handkerchief is still visible.

Lord's melee a day later only
>>
The jousting began as planned. You and Arthur found a man selling a strong substance that he claimed helped against hangovers and provided an energy boost. It was bitter as hell, but you both chugged it down anyway.
Arthur split off to find other squires to talk to, leaving you alone.

We were supposed to look at the contestants from - Duke's suggestion/order. So we do that. Rosanne should be around there, as well - young lady not watching strong knights joust? Doesn't exist!

You decide to find Rosanne. After wandering through various groups of ladies, you found her. She was looking at a list of the contestants, very admiringly in fact.
She spots you and beckons you forward, handing you the form when you arrive.

and we use that as a pretext to speak with Rosanne.

We're not that obvious as we still don't really know whether our Lord approves his daughter being friendly with squires - even one with a good and noble lineage.

We ask her who she thinks will win, who's her favourite and tell her that the handkerchief brought us luck in the melee.

Does she have older siblings who will inherit more than she? Wouldn't want anything to happen to them...

I'll second this.

We can have any woman we want, including Rosanne, or one of even higher station if we're top notch badasses.

Speaking of QM, any chance we can get a rough background on some of the noble houses of the land including hierarchy, to better see where it is we sit?

Sorry for the delay everyone.

You look at the list:
>Lord Taylor Leigton
>Sir Terrance "The Rose"
>Lord Rodrik Berrant
>Sir Hayman Joyle
>Lord Gerald "Nightsword" Moran
>Your own Duke, Edwyle Ferraus
>Yoren "Beserk" Haraldson
>Sir James Fervant
There are many more names, but these were the ones you had seen before.
>Which man would you like to talk to Rosanne about?

>Yoren "Beserk" Haraldson
He sounds interesting.

You decide to talk to Rosanne about Yoran.
"Who's Yoran Haraldson?" You ask, vageuly familiar with the name.

Rosanne smiles slightly. "He's from the North, where raiders still venture. A foreigner, but he's proven his loyalty through his service in war." She grinned again. "He's also bigger than you."

"Your kerchief gave me luck, My Lady." You took it out and handed it to her.
"Oh nono, you keep it." Rosanne laughs merrily. "I like to hear that. I hope it will hope in the Lord's Melee." She places a hand on your chest and looks at you for a moment. "Follow me to find Duke Edwyle."
Perhaps you have a chance if you perform well?
You watch the joust with interest, noting each knight or lord's technique with the lance.
Your liege had performed well, defeating Lord Leighton in the first round.
Yoren and Sir Terrence were paired. Sir Terrence was a flamboyant warrior, and probably had only watched combat from the sidelines. He loved to flourish after each pass. Yoren, however, was crude, much like yourself in some ways. You could see yourself as him had you not been raised further south.
Surprisingly, the joust did not last as long as many had hoped. Yoren had bested your liege for the Champion title. Duke Edwyle would probably not be happy for the rest of the night, not matter how much he attempted to hide it.

You return to your room with Arthur in the evening. The Lord's Melee starts late in the day as well. Your actions for the night and morning will determine how well you do.
>Pick an activity for the night and one for the morning

Discuss strategies for the Melee with Arthur at night.
Get up early and train in the morning.
>>

Chat with the Duke, ask for any advice/pointers about some of the other notable lords. Get some rest.

>morning
Some light training to limber up

I'm going to change my vote for the night activity to this. The Duke might know more about what to do.
