‘Come on, Commander.’ She giggles; your goosebumps get goosebumps as she gives you a light squeeze. You feel the drag of her nails. ‘It’s so squishy.’

‘Takao…’ You grow red, by some sense still keeping a level head on things; surprising, given the sheer absurdity of your situation.

‘All right.’ Takao lets out a wet smile, nodding slowly at you. ‘But you are calm, sir?’

‘As I can be, yeah.’

Then she gives you a squeeze… and you do, too. Takao giggles, her smile morphing into a smirk as she bumps her forehead into yours. If there is a Heaven out there, you believe that it needed some drastic remodeling; preferably one that involved better showers. Nonetheless, you keep your stoic demeanor, feeling Takao’s skin under your fingers, it’s soft… plump, you’d say, responding to your touch in a manner most… welcoming.

You give her another squeeze to assert yourself.

Whatever the Hell that hoped to accomplish.

‘Commander, you can get martialed, you know.’ She grins slyly, tracing a finger.

You stop squeezing, I stop squeezing.’

‘Yes, sir.’

Takao’s touch leaves your posterior… but not before one last pinch. You send her a soft glare, giving one of your own, making her giggle as the both of you release yourselves from each other and resume the shower. You reach for the shampoo, only to find Takao already applying it on her head. You roll your eyes in annoyance – figures she would.

‘You girls are kinda forward with me, aren’t you?’ You cross your arms, raising an eyebrow as Takao lathers herself. ‘Dick jokes, playing with my butt…’

‘Soap.’ She suddenly says.

‘Excuse me?’

‘I have some soap if you want to borrow some.’ She indicates a bottle of – woman’s shower gel, right, rolled over by the wall. ‘You scratch my back I scratch yours.’

As you move to pick it up, however, you feel a sharp pain in your behind, and the maniacal grin on Takao’s face and her free hand is all the evidence you find you need.

‘Shower rules: never bend over!’ She looks at you with a smug look you wouldn’t have pegged her to possess… or you would, but not in the same context, shaking your head and applying the aforementioned liquid to your own body.

You grumble.

‘Hm? What are you talking about?’ She looks at you, confused, still lathering her black locks.

This.’ you say in exasperation, tasting a little of the shampoo, flung off from Takao, ‘I’m not sure if you’re aware, but you are naked. In the shower. With a fat dude you just met, Takao.’

‘Really? Where is he?’ She looks around. ‘Does he have a girlfriend?’

Goose. Bumps.

‘Commander, re-lax.’

You sigh, rolling your eyes.

‘So, what did you get up to in your spare time?’ You finally manage, rubbing your non-prosthetic down roughly, occasionally throwing a glance over to your subordinate. ‘Your spare time spent not harassing me, of course.’

Takao laughs loudly.

‘Commander, I’m surprised at you.’ You turn to face her; only to see that she’d done that the same as you. She throws a mischievous look at you over her shoulder, promising nothing but trouble. ‘Hm… your hands.’

‘What about them?’ Your eyes narrow slightly, washing the soap over your own body.

‘Are they free?’

‘No.’ You say with a finality, turning away from her again.

‘How cold of you, Commander.’ She teases.

‘You and Kaga would get along great.’ You manage; the water may have been warm, but it did no favors for your constitution – you feel more stressed than ever with Takao right next to you; with Takao washing herself over next to you, anyway.

You feel a familiar contour press against your back, and an arm slinging over shoulder. Once again, you were skin-to-skin with Takao, and her face was resting on your right shoulder. You could feel her, all of her, wrapped over you like a blanket, her weight comfortably resting against your spine. She gives you a sly wink, your cheeks barely a touch apart from one another.

‘Oh, we do.’

You don't rise to it. Either way.

‘I was calibrating my gear with the fairies for most of the day.’ She explains with a blissful hum, her raven locks tickling your chin. ‘Can’t do much with what we have, but at least I got a little more comfortable firing them. I can’t say for the other girls, but Kaga worked late last night. She’s still part of the Sky Force, even if she’s under your direct command.’

That was a surprising piece of information.

‘I caught up with the Admiral after – I used to serve under him a few years ago. Imagine my surprise that I was requested to transfer to this base of all places in the re-shuffling.’

She runs a hand on your thigh. You determinedly decide not to fall for it.

So what did you like about me?’

‘You really are incorrigible.’ You try your hardest to glare at her, but some of the shampoo getting in your eyes renders it slightly less than effective.

‘You’re the first man in my life to look at me that way, what can I say?’

‘In what way?’

‘Like I’m worth bending over a kitchen counter.’

She kisses your ear.

Gah!’ You grab her hand before it went anywhere East, turning her around and grabbing both her hands, the water raining over the both of you, washing the foam away from her hair. ‘Can you not?!’

‘Commander.’ She smiles… and you see that this one is a little more honest. ‘It’s nice, really.’

‘How’s…’ you look away from her, ‘How’s everyone else?’

‘Can’t say, sir.’ She winks at you, ‘But if you ask me...’

That smirk should be considered a sin.

‘Takao,’ you manage, so close to this devil of a woman, who you’d only talked to minutes before, ‘you know I won’t.’

‘But you want to.’

She leans in to you, every wet, warm curve of her front presses against you, her nose tickling your ear and her breasts pressing against your chest. You feel her belly slide as her considerable strength and experience makes your knees and form buckle like it’s under siege by a typhoon. She’s toying with you, pushing you, and…

She doesn’t realize that you’ve learned to push back.

Her own strength becomes a momentary weakness, as releasing yourself into a fall, so does she. She straddles herself on your belly; you don’t allow her to stay and pin her to a seat right off you, your arms pushing on her shoulder and using her to get to your full height. You reach for something with your other hand, your prosthetic tugging over her wet lips with a gentle twitch. There is a hotness that emanates, and you move in for the kill… running a hand up her breast as an eternity ticks down.

You grin widely...

C – Commander?’

And hold up the soap.

Takao laughs, throwing her head back and supporting herself on her arms. Your flesh and metal meet and rub together, as you bow to her whims and start rubbing her chest down with the resulting foam. She laughs, even with your hands firmly running over her chest, smiling honestly at you.

‘All right, Commander, all right,’ she throws her head back in bliss as you start to work, ‘you got me. Do your thing.’

You find the fire dying down as you work your way, lathering all along Takao’s front. She doesn’t mind, not at all, as you work your way all along her body; she hums, and rather than aflame, you find yourself determined to do a job well done, even if it is just this minor thing. The shower falls along the both of you like a rapid massage, but you find yourself annoyed at a few of the places you can’t get to.

You’re both on your feet now.

‘Turn around.’

‘E – Excuse me?’ She stutters. It’s a nice change.

‘You scratch my back I scratch yours.’ You say neutrally, motioning with your prosthetic.

She does, and you run your hands up and down her sides, starting again; she looks over her shoulder, smiling appreciatively.

‘Thank you, this is nice.’

And with your foe defenseless, you strike.

Hey!’ She gasps, collapsing onto her knees – or she would have, if you didn’t catch her.

She rests against your chest, giggling. She’s as heavy as she looks.

‘All right, sir.’ She touches your cheek, smirking. ‘We’ll call it a draw.’

She shivers contently in your arms, ‘But I meant it, you know.’

‘Sorry?’

She kisses your jawline.

‘That it’s nice that someone can make you feel like a woman once in a while.’

You're speechless.

samidare is it really necesary to bring a entire branch to the shower?
>>
Samidare, naked and enthusiastic, steps from behind the partition and into the shower at the end. She swipes the oak branch left and right, very much eager to start. You look to Takao, then back to her, rubbing the back of your neck. After that particular adventure with the KanMusu resting against you, you weren’t quite sure if you were ready for a round with a spirited Destroyer and an organic riding crop.

You shake your head. No, you did not – !

Even with the building steam and the hot rain, you see her upset features. Against your better judgment, you relent, nodding over to Samidare to proceed. Takao, not particularly caring that there was a witness now, pecks your jaw quickly, sliding against you to full height. You know she’s not forgiven you quite yet, if the shaking of her glistening, wet cheeks in your face is anything to go by.

‘You know what?’ You begin to get up, running your hair back as the warm water finally eases your tensions. ‘I’ll go a round if you can make it quick.’

The blue-haired KanMusu practically skips towards you with her weapon, her eyes brighter than a lightbulb. You turn around, bracing yourself for the beating, but nothing happens for a bit. Then, she pops her head at your side, looking at you with bright eyes.

‘Can you bend over, Commander?’

‘No.’ Your mood darkens slightly.

‘Aw, but I’m too short to – !’

Fine.’ You raise your hands in defeat, kneeling, then sitting on the now-warm floor. ‘I’ll sit down; you can reach now, can’t you?’

Samidare lets out a cheer as you do so, patting you on the shoulder like it’s a job well done. You relax your muscles, preparing to receive the… sting?

It feels like you’re being scratched by a talon.

‘Ow!’

Now it feels like you’re being tenderized.

‘Hey!’

‘Samidare, dear, I don’t think that’s how you use it…’

I’ll say.’

Commander!’ She cries out tearfully. It echoes through the washroom; you’d hurt her feelings.

‘Samidare.’ Takao says, a soothing quality to her voice amidst the rushing water. ‘Hit him harder.’

You move to protest, but before you can react, Samidare had raised the oak branch, cutting through the rain with it, making a mark just under your shoulders.

It felt good.

‘Wow, that’s not bad.’ You notice you sound chirpier yourself; Samidare giggles, hitting you again with it. Again, you feel a little better. The knots feel like they’d taken off.

The shower ceases, and Takao appears before you again, still nude, still smug… and drops herself onto you, using you as a makeshift seat, humming in content as she fastens your arms beneath her ample chest. She hums as she rubs against you, content and smelling of jasmine.

‘You women are crazy.’

You feel her warm, wet breath upon your lips as she turns to meet you.

‘Both are five letter words, my dear Commander.’

Commander?’ She says softly, like a tickling wind on your chin.

You tuck your hands underneath Takao’s armpits, to her confusion. She was heavy, both in set and in form, but you needed to be somewhere by now. It had been about twenty minutes since your shower began, and you didn’t want to delay yourself any longer. Samidare keeps hitting as you continue your efforts, before stopping with a cheerful thanks and moving to get her own hygiene sorted.

She curls an arm around your head, either very, very intoxicated by the heat and contact… or just teasing you.

You imagine the face of the Admiral, shaking his head in disappointment at you.

‘I’m trying to lift you.’ You struggle to say, as you now have an eyeful of her chest merely inches away as she shifts. ‘Which, from this position, is really hard.’

She smirks, giggling.

‘I have a button you can push for lift-off.’

You tell yourself it’s not going to happen.

Please?’ You practically beg, putting your hands under her posterior for encouragement.

She kisses you on the cheek, chuckling as she rests even more into your chest. There’s a sort of link between the both of you now, and it takes everything in you to keep this from escalating any further on your part. Takao, however, has no such qualms, uncoiling before you like a snake bored with its meal. You can tell she’s very deliberately dragging herself on you, skin-to-skin, the tinkle of her muffled laughter ripping you apart. Not to mention, giving you an intentional faceful of her behind, dripping and moist.

‘Oh, I did it!’ Takao gives one look to you, winking, and you get up yourself.

Without another word, you dash past Samidare, grab your towel and head your room; you don’t bother to wrap yourself as you dash down the corridor, pushing the door open, and…

‘I ordered a stud. Not a muffin.’

Of course Kaga would be there.

‘KAGA! Out!’

‘No.’

‘Then stop staring!’

‘No.’

‘Fine! I don’t care!’

You get pick up the formal uniform, dressing yourself up as quickly as possible. You don’t even care that Kaga’s dead stare seems to be fixed on you the entire time, her hands on her chin, elbows on her knees, legs crossed. You put your pants on first, finding it hard as the belt and buckle were part of the uniform and not separate. You struggle; even if this was the largest size, you find that it’s not built for… the larger percentile of the populace.

‘I forgot to tell you; Nagato said she’ll meet you at the District Management conference, but if you want any of us to accompany you, you’re welcome to bring one of us off duty.’ Kaga mentions. ‘Houshou has some business to attend to today along with Shigure, but Samidare, Takao and I are able to.’

‘Who’s going to be there?’

‘Suits. A lot of suits.’

You rub your temples.

It doesn’t take long for you to decide who would best accompany you, and as reluctant as you are to face her again, you find that it’s better than walking into a conference and being made a fool by the suits. You thank Kaga for the heads-up, to which, she surprisingly gives a respectful bow, leaving the room again. You put the formal wear on with more ease than you did the last time, but put to the back of your head a reminder to, once again, lose a pants size or two.

You promised to lead by example and that was what you’re going to do.

You open the door and head out to the corridor. If you remember correctly, Takao’s room was right next to the upper floor store room. You knock on the door gently, waiting for a reply.

‘Who is it?’

‘It’s me, Takao.’

‘Commander?’

‘Are you decent?’

‘Why don’t you come in and find out?’

You roll your eyes, pushing the door open; having seen pretty much all there was to quite probably the most shameless subordinate under your command, you open the door, to indeed find her… indecent; but at least she isn’t naked. Clad in a bra and fastening her garters, you adopt a serious military stance with her, pushing all incident in the shower out of your brain. However, a small part of you wonders just why the girls were so casual around you. Back in your more naive days, you wouldn’t think for a moment any of this would happen.

Now you could proudly tell people you’d broken two and a half bases with two females in the same day.

And, of course, be hung for breaking explicit regs.

‘I need you to come with me today, Takao.’

‘Oh?’ Takao adopts a look of surprise as she clips a few of her bangs back, before eyeing you curiously. ‘Whatever for, sir? I thought you had a conference with District Management today?’

‘Well, your file says you’re a good diplomat, and I don’t have much talent with my tongue.’ You elaborate, hard as it was to admit your weakness. ‘There’s going to be a – some, a lot of – bureaucracy involved, and seeing as you’re an experienced diplomat, I was wondering if you’d accompany me.’

‘Hm?’

You sigh; no wonder you never had a girl – you could never take the lead like this.

‘They’ll eat me alive if I walk in there unprepared,’ You say further. The Admiral would be there, but you knew for a fact that he wasn’t going to hold your hand; at least with Takao, you’d have a good head in your corner, ‘and with you around, I think I can at least maneuver it a little better than I would alone – or with anyone else.’

You see a small smirk slowly form on her features.

‘Why not Nagato?’

'She's already there.' You cross your arms.

'Can I ask for something from you, then?' She quickly adds, a little more jittery than you expect. 'It's not much, but...'

‘All right,’ you sigh. You suppose you owed her for pulling her from her off-duty hours, ‘let’s hear it.’

You give a chuckle, crossing your arms and leaning against the wall.

The smirk completely disappears, and instead of the sly, seductive woman you’d just grown used to, you see a controlled wreck if there ever was one. She looks a little more aged, a little more deflated, but Takao in all of this, somehow only grows more real in your eyes. Her expression darts into an unsure realm, and she looks away from you, holding her elbows as she bites her lips.

She then rushes to her rucksack in one corner, pulling out a few articles of clothing. You frown, perplexed, at just what it is she could be looking for – one of her garters hits you by accident; you drop it on the floor. She then gets up to her feet and marches towards you, full of something.

Something that, even for the blindest man, was a mix of joy and relief.

‘I’d like for you to sign this for me, please.’ She hands over a – several – folded pieces of paper. ‘Sir.’

The piece of paper was brown and had water stains all over it. The seal on it wasn’t one of the Admiralty, but a turn of the sheet saw a slightly faded ink seal at the top that signed off on their commission. The seal of the Nation’s Royal Navy was adorned at the top of the document, adorning it. For a moment, you wonder just how Takao could get ahold of something so blatantly out of her scope, when you see the date scribbled in one corner – this was from quite some time ago.

‘Takao, this is an official military document.’ You frown, reading through the slightly faded ink on the first few pages that detailed Navy procedure and all their tenets. ‘How in the world did you get this?’

‘It – It was back when they signed off base sites for the fairies and the Admiralty.’ She says nervously. If she were the type to twiddle her thumbs, you knew that she would be doing them right now; you’re not sure if you liked this Takao – this vulnerable, frightened and anxious woman who seemed to be waiting on your word. ‘I… I negotiated the approval for a fourth base to be given to the Admiralty, Kure, and I was promised a…’

‘Grave plot.’ You say, in almost a whisper. ‘This is a request for an official military grave site to be reserved and given to…’

FIRST NAME: ATAGO

‘Takao,’ you feel your heart go out for her, who’d seemed to have shrunk as you read through the form, ‘why me?’

‘I’m not human, sir.’

It strikes you.

It’s nice that someone can make you feel like a woman once in a while

‘I… I was promised a plot if the negotiations were successful, but when they were done… the Navy said that they wouldn’t allow it. I asked everyone, but none of them took it seriously… none of them thought to push it. I thought that, at least...'

As you reach a hand out, she shrinks away.

You don’t need to think, there is no struggle and there is no doubt, you embrace her with all your might, holding her close, afraid that if she might weep, she might break. Her breath slows and its edge dulls and you find yourself with nothing more than a woman that had lost the only thing she loved. You are a stranger in a room of a being that wasn’t human, by her own admission and by the laws that were in ink and bound by a stamp of authority.

Except that she is. To you, in every manner of form, she is human.

You hold her closely, steadily, warmly and with what care you could spare. She doesn’t struggle, nor does she fold herself into your arms like a lover or a desperate child, but she does not push away. Takao does not return the embrace, but you do not expect her to – now, of all times, if even you were a stranger in many senses, you held yourself to the duty to be there… and to be human with her.

‘I’m – I’m sorry, Commander, I shouldn’t have – !’

‘It’s all right.’ You sooth her, stroking her hair like you would a newborn lamb; you don’t know how to go on from this, but you understand that with Takao needed someone right now, even if you’re not sure just what you could offer. ‘It’s okay,’ you assure her, pulling away and giving an encouraging smile, ‘Takao… I think you’re a lot more human than the people stamping this piece of paper.’

You say so with truth, and you say so with conviction.

Through her tears, you see a small smile form. Damning the regs for the first time, you raise your prosthetic to wipe a tear away from her features; Takao raises her head with a trace of your metal thumb, following its movements gently. She puts her arms around you, not shaking, not trembling, but with a hum of content and relief.

Inside your head, for the first time, you believe you actually did the right thing.

‘Takao, I can’t promise you I’ll be able to do this.’ You say truthfully, finding a small weight on your shoulders as the words come out.

Takao’s shocked look is momentary, but it’s enough to give you a flip in your throat.

‘And I know that you’re probably sick of the word try by now, but…’ You let out a heavy sigh, offering her a smile you hope would be of comfort. ‘I’ll do something. You can count on that.’

The smile is small, but the gratitude, and a hint of mischief… is there.

‘Okay, Commander.’

She doesn't have to put herself on tiptoes to meet your lips.

It's short and warm and you tell yourself that you're going to wake up any moment now.

In a daze, you try to recount regulation, finding yourself dragged down the stairs and out by a recovered Takao. It isn’t until your eyes feast upon a familiar buggy that everything crashes down to reality.

As if in response, Takao wraps herself around you, eyes wide with fear.

Takao looks at you in fear, speechless. She probably remembered the old man well; not that anyone could forget him. In uniform, and with his cap on, he looked the positive figure of joy and death in that strange amalgamation of vision and expectation. In the passenger seat was the same MP that you had accompany you last time, stone-faced, looking forward… and donning a set of large prayer beads around his neck.

‘Been waiting for you for a while.’ He gives you a nod, then find Takao next to you. ‘And nice to see you again, little lady; I’m sorry about your luggage again. Did you find it?’

Takao mumbles something, not relinquishing her hold on you. You make out some words that you know would have your elders shoving bars of soap down your throat, though.

Despite everything… you find yourself smiling, putting a strong grip on Takao’s shoulder, and taking step by step towards the surplus buggy. She struggles, but you have none of it, casting your eyes down to her like an executioner dragging a reluctant prisoner to their final destination. The look of betrayal that she gives you does nothing to warm your now-dead heart, and with a small cry, you lift and deposit her into the back seat before getting in with her.

You buckle yourself in, giving her a smile as dead as you are inside.

‘I guess this is what they call a Lover’s Suicide.’

The engine roars like a dragon in heat, and the world is a blur. The ringing bell of the buggy’s meter is the only sound that you hear now, and the rush of wind is the only touch you feel upon your body, like a thousand needles of death. Takao lets out a silent scream, crying out for mercy as corner turns to straightaway and concrete and pavement turns to sky. In front of you, the MP is hunched over in a prayer, reciting a mantra to banish the evils that plague the buggy ride.

It doesn’t work, of course. Evil was in the driver’s seat, raving about how street racers today didn’t have the balls to drive off cliffs to get to the finish line first.

You plummet to earth as a fantastic explosion of grey and blue swirls around you, finally realizing that the old man had brought the buggy to a halt in front of your destination: the refurbished mayor’s office; or what passed as refurbished, anyway. You cock your head, seeing some premium reconstruction work going along, and new trees obviously planted along the office, which was twice as large as the barracks.

You feel a blow to your chest, and the tearful eyes of your companion upon you.

Takao glares at you; you offer an apologetic smile, but she’s out of the buggy in a huff before anything can be said, crawling over you and staggering onto the pavement.

As you get out yourself, you suddenly find yourself in Nagato’s arms, catching you before you took a tumble.

‘Gee, son? Two girls? Hah!’

Takao and Nagato share a look.

You give the old man a flat look, unamused.

‘I’m a Commander, old man.’

‘And they’re two able and ready women, son. That doesn’t change a thing.’

You wish to retort, but the old man cackles, revving the engine far louder, far stronger than any other surplus buggy should or could, zooming off without a care in the world. Part of you wonders whether he was part demon or abomination, as the buggy seemed to be a sort of astral chariot rather than a surplus issue buggy. You dust yourself off, hold the files and head towards the office…

Only to have Nagato cross-armed and eyes closed in contemplation, blocking your way and Takao doing the same, an eyebrow raised at you.

W – What?’ You clutch the folder in your arms as if it is a security blanket, a talisman and promise of protection.

‘Commander, is there any one of us whose company you specifically enjoy?’ Nagato inquires, her expression one of the utmost seriousness. ‘Or anyone that you have a particular reliance on?’

You wish that old man was here so you could beat him up for even throwing that question out.

I am not answering that question.’ You walk past them, adjusting your collar as they follow you from behind; you buckle yourself as you take step by step up the cracked stairs, focusing on the doors and drowning out any words from Takao and Nagato.

You push them open, and the both of them follow you from behind. The inside of the office is relatively intact, save for several shattered windows; a few workers are present, fixing up the walls of the building. You approach an important-looking figure, clad in shades and a uniform not unlike your own fatigues, who automatically points his hand in a direction down a corridor to your right.

‘Come on, Commander, everyone has one.’ Takao says mischievously, very much enjoying the prodding of your person. ‘You have a favorite, don’t you?’ She snickers, and you do your damn best not to retort – you wouldn’t give her the satisfaction. ‘Is it Nagato? You like Nagato the most, don’t you?’

‘Takao! Don’t prod the Commander!’

‘It’s just a simple question. Then we’ll know just

You sigh, giving in. Might as well give her something to chew on.

‘Yeah, it’s Nagato.’ You answer quickly. ‘She’s the most reliable woman I know and I would be lost without her. End of.’

You see a room at the end of the corridor, short as it is, with two MPs outside. You rationalize that it must be where the meeting would be held. You turn back to see Takao, who’d stopped in her tracks, rubbing her forearm as though she’d been given a particularly strong jab. Nagato had stopped too, looking around the corridor at anywhere but you.

You honestly didn’t like this. Not one bit.

‘Oh.’ Takao says quietly, giving you a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. ‘I mean, it’s so obvious, isn’t it?’

Oh, no.

He's just being dismissive of Takao, and it's whoever you have the current highest value with. Currently, due to choices, it's Nagato. She already had a head start and the beach scene has put her at least 2 notches higher than the last. Remember, Nagato was an OPTION for your team, too, not MANDATORY. You used up the special request form to bring her in.

‘Takao, look, my priority right now is to my duty. That means taking care of all of my Division.’ You emphasize this. ‘There is no favorite; if you’re going to believe me of one thing, then believe that. Nagato’s been a crutch for me, and she’s pulled me out of a few fires in the last 48 hours, but that doesn’t mean I’m not reliant on every single one of you giving it all to this team.’

The both of them look at you, eyes wide.

‘There are no egos here,’ You insist seriously, before giving Nagato a smile, ‘except for mine, of course.’

Nagato actually laughs, holding her sides.

‘All right, Commander.’ She replies, the amusement clear in her voice.

‘How cliché of you; all of you are important to me…’ She emphasizes the latter half of her sentence, making a pose that wouldn’t look out of place on an overly-dramatic television actor.

‘Well, in this case, I’m not some two-bit protag. I actually need my Division working together or we’re never going to get things done,’ You insist, and that is the truth; you then add with a sigh, ‘let alone with this war.’

Nagato crosses her arms, a smile of… pride on her features? Whatever it is, you feel a little lighter and more confident. Takao herself smirks at you, but it’s not condescending at all; you realize a sort of understanding and determination from it, giving you a steel that you feel you can make do the rest of the day.

‘Ever the realist, sir.’ Nagato says with a half-laugh.

‘Definitely one to watch, whether we like it or not.’ She winks at Nagato, and you feel yourself swell.

But you really need to lose some weight.’ They both chime in stereo.

You roll your eyes and head for the door, the two MPs giving you a quick salute as they open it for you.

‘They’re kinda right, sir.’ One of them mouths.

You don’t bother to retort, entering the conference room to see five gentlemen, one of them the Admiral, and the other another a man in uniform. He’s much younger than the Admiral, probably less than a decade older than you, and was built in a frame that reminded you of a lesser version of the Grand Lieutenant’s frame. His face is grizzled and tough with a distinct stubble, frame stocky, his hair brown and short, barely kept in place. Like the Grand Lieutenant, he has a distinct height advantage over you. The man and the Admiral seem to be engaged in a soft conversation.

The other three were similarly dressed middle-aged men of the same body type – yours, save for one who looked like he would blow over from a light wind. You walk up to the Admiral and the man.

‘Good morning, Commander.’

‘Good morning, Admiral.’ You salute.

‘Commander, this is Yokosuka’s new Vice-Admiral.’ He introduces you to the man, who gives you a crooked, but honest smile.

‘A pleasure to meet you, sir.’

You give him a salute, surprising him. He pulls back his hand, but before he can retreat fully, you snap and give it a good shake, keeping eye contact, offering your own smile. He’s your superior, but from his manner of stance, his features and his rough palm, you can tell that this is a man that’s been in the muck with the worst of them and kept the best of him alive.

‘I don’t leave a man hanging.’ You give a friendly smirk.

‘Likewise.’ He says in a rough voice. ‘Don’t let these suits scare you. I’ve seen uglier ones in the field.’

The Admiral nods to both of you, before turning specifically to you.

‘Commander, you don’t mind if I borrow my lady back for a while, do you?’ The Admiral walks up to you; so that’s why Nagato was here in the first place – you almost forgot that she was part of the Advance Guard for Yokosuka. ‘I know you’ve come to rely on her, but most of my personal Squadron are busy this morning and Nagato says that she wasn’t up to much today.’

‘Of course not, sir.’

The Admiral frowns at you, and you wonder if it’s something you didn’t say. He pats you on the shoulder, beckoning you to tilt your head a bit more so he could say something personal to you.

‘Show a little resistance next time, kid.’ He whispers.

‘Y – Yes, sir.’ You tilt your head the other way, very much puzzled by whatever implication he was trying to convey.

‘Admiral.’ One of the suits coughs loudly, catching everyone’s attention. He looks cold and analytical, smart and to-the-point; you know from the get-go this man wasn’t someone you wanted to cross, Admiralty or not.

‘Mr Deputy Mayor.’

‘Mr Acting Mayor, if that’s all the same to you.’

‘It isn’t, but titles aren’t what we’re here for, are we?’

‘Of course not. We’re here for the people.’

‘Then let us begin.’

Nagato goes with the Admiral, giving you a smile for good luck. You move with Takao to your own seat. The conference table is circular; the gentlemen sat on one side of the circle, all next to each other. The doors open, and a lady – very leggy one, at that – walks in with several stacks of paper, handing them over to each of you. When she got to the Vice-Admiral, he stopped her in her tracks, hand on her forearm.

Dinner?’

She turns red, stuttering, when once again, the Deputy Mayor coughs to catch all of your attention.

‘Vice-Admiral, please release my Secretary. It’s only her first day.’

‘All right.’ He smiles to the man across the table, before turning to the woman once more. ‘Maybe some other time.’

‘I’d – I’d like that.’

She leaves quickly, heels clicking.

‘Now, to business.’ He begins, opening the folder. ‘The Admiralty’s proposal for the jurisdiction of the plaza to be passed over to your authority from our perspective, is absurd.’

‘I understand your concerns with the transfer of jurisdiction for the plazas, Deputy Mayor – !’ The Admiral begins, pushing a piece of paper aside.

Acting Mayor.’ He snarls.

‘Acting Mayor, but we are acting in your best interest in order to restore order as best we can to Yokosuka.’

‘In our best interest?’ The man scoffs, with his two colleagues nodding and crossing their arms. ‘Our best interest would have been for you to do you job and keep those things away from our shores, not to let them drop a blitzkrieg on us when we were returning home from a long day’s work.’

To your right, the Vice-Admiral snaps a pencil underneath the table.

‘Even if that’s the case, the restoration of the plaza and everything else, after, cannot begin without you handing it over to us for the time being, now if you go over the – !’

‘And the time being… being nine months.’ The Deputy Mayor replies, deadpan and going through a sheet himself, before sending the Admiral a look of contempt. ‘I’ve seen you work, Admiral, and I doubt you have a sliver of experience with even the idea of reconstruction and restoration.’

‘We’re not trying to strong-arm you, Deputy Mayor.’ The Vice-Admiral speaks up, rolling the broken pencil on the table. ‘The logistics department of the Admiralty and ours can’t operate out of legal jurisdiction with regards to public and general property. If we step on line once, it’ll be more than two strings of red tape for everyone involved.’ You find yourself mildly impressed by the manner of his wording. ‘What we’re proposing is for a temporary shift to let us do our job and get things up and running again.’

The Deputy Mayor looks neutral, before intertwining his fingers and sending the Admiral a look of disdain.

‘Vice-Admiral, was it?’ He begins dismissively. ‘You arrived here this morning, so I don’t expect you to – !’

‘This place was a ghost town before the Admiralty signed off on Yokosuka a decade ago.’ The Vice-Admiral replies coolly. ‘You were a part fishing, part factory town. You were happy enough to sign off on the profits then, but now that we’re actually positively intervening on behalf of the Admiralty, you choose not to?’

The Vice-Admiral takes out a cigarette, lighting it up. You see the Admiral rub his temples as the action, and the Deputy Mayor looking as though he’d just had a sour berry popped in his mouth.

‘Sounds like crap to me.’

‘What you’re asking us it to give is more than just a building or district. It is our livelihood!’ He gets up from his seat. ‘Need I remind you of how this town operates now?’

‘I doubt if it operates at all.’

Vice-Admiral.’ The Admiral looks to him, his eyes flashing dangerously.

‘Deputy Mayor,’ You interject, looking across the conference table to the pasty-faced man. ‘that is your official title, isn’t it, sir?’

Acting.’ He growls.

‘Deputy Mayor, I’m the Commander that the Admiralty – the Admiral elected to assign the restoration and management of the commercial district.’

All three of the men on the other side look at you in disbelief; the Admiral puts his hand to his face and the Vice-Admiral himself lets out a heavy sigh, grimacing. You wonder if you’d said the wrong thing at the wrong time.

‘You?’ He practically shrills, turning to the Admiral. ‘Him?’

‘Him, and us.’ The Admiral affirms, although you think the addition was more to keep the damage to a minimum.

‘Do you have the slightest idea how to run a district, young man?’ He practically snaps. ‘The paperwork, the responsibilities, the headaches?’

‘No, but it’s been two weeks, and I don’t see that you or any of the other suits doing anything but press your ties.’

The Vice-Admiral barks, banging the table.

‘You impetuous – !’

You stand nothing for it, waving your hand to cut him off, lifting the paper and getting right to the point. You feel Takao’s hand on your shoulder in support – which means, for you, whatever it is, you’d said the right thing.

‘What’s the issue of signing off on the supplies and reconstruction?’ You get right to it; cutting the fat out.

‘There is no issue!’ He gets to his feet, pushing his chair back waving the document as though it was some sort of gospel, as if exasperated and tired; it wasn’t even ten minutes yet. ‘If you’d just hand over the materials for the town to get started, in good faith, of course, we will! We’ve already had preliminary arrangements for this in any case of an attack – which was inevitable, in any case! We couldn’t expect any of you to keep up that charade you had – !’

The Vice-Admiral lets out a noise of displeasure, knocking his knuckles on the table. The Deputy Mayor glares at him, and he glares right back. The Admiral looks to say something, but before he does, you keep the meeting on point – if that’s the only thing that you could do.

‘So you do have a plan to get the town back up?’

He smiles in relief, as if you’d caught onto a point.

‘Of course we do!’ He says, taking a friendly turn, ‘You can look at the contractor’s outline in the document. All there and done.’

All of you do, and you do find that it’s very much thorough as said.

Right.’

‘Why didn’t I hear of this before?’ The Admiral questions, Nagato looking over his shoulder, confused herself.

‘Because it was an emergency proposal signed off by the late Mayor.’

You give it a flip. It did look all right.

A gut feeling tells you something is off.

‘Takao, would you mind going through this?’ You tilt your head towards her, whispering and handing over the document.

‘Sir?’ Takao goes a little wide-eyed as she takes the file; leafing through it with a frown.

‘Sir, would you mind if I have a seat?’ Takao asks you.

‘Not at all.’ You shake, gesturing to the chair next to you.

There is a sudden lurch as your chair is pulled back, away from the conference table; you meet the eyes of all five males in confused, only to find it blocked by a familiar blue fabric and a sudden weight on your lap. An elbow grazes your chest as you realize, with wide eyes that Takao had just claimed you as her own personal seat at the conference; you look up at her, to see the Heavy Cruiser and the harbinger of your embarrassment, already flipping through the file with a look of the utmost concentration.

You look to the three suits, who are mouthing confusion, to the Admiral, who again, is rubbing his temples with his hat off, to the Vice-Admiral, who smirks and nods, leaning in his chair at the spectacle.

Then you finally see Nagato. And you can't describe just what she sends your way.

‘T – Takao.’ You hiss.

‘Oh, hush.’

A loud grunt gets your attention, and you see the Deputy Mayor looking at you, purple-faced and annoyed by the display. Takao shifts in her seat – on you – meets the man eye-to-eye.

‘Madam, I hope there is no farce to this.’

Takao twitches a business-woman’s smile.

‘Mr Mayor,’ she says, with a tone not unlike the man’s own and tracing the side of your face with a gloved hand, ‘I was brought here by my Commander’s request for this specific reason. There is no farce; he’s just a little lost when it comes to paperwork. He is such a young dear, after all, aren’t you, sir?’

He actually glows at this, to your surprise.

‘And the best hands for these sort of things are old, seasoned ones, aren’t they?’ She laughs, but you realize that if there ever was deceit rolled into one, you would bet it would be Takao’s.

The Deputy Mayor laughs, and so do his otherwise silent compatriots. You find yourself stunned, and not at the touch she had on your chubby face.

‘Indeed.’ He give a flick of his hand to you and Takao, his expression one of triumph and joy, before turning to the Admiral. ‘Very wise; experience trumps all, does it not, Admiral?’

The Admiral doesn’t bother to look, his eyes are on the table, and his hands are up.

Whatever.’

‘Gentlemen, I’ll only be a moment.’ Takao wiggles her bottom on you. ‘Commander.’

Takao goes through the document silently and carefully, she goes back and forth between a few pages for a while, falling into a cycle where she burns to the end, flips back a page and mumbles as she looks at the ceiling. It takes her about fifteen minutes, but she sets down the paper after.

‘There’s no problem, sir.’

‘There. You see? Everything’s sorted and done.’ He laughs, patting the table. ‘We have it all under control.’

‘Of course, Mr Mayor.’ Takao gets up, sashaying her way towards the space between you and the suits, still holding the piece of paper.

‘You have a smart woman here, Commander. Wouldn’t want to let her go.’

Takao winks at you. Perfect; she’s encouraged.

‘Although, sir, one question.’ Takao begins good-naturedly, ‘Who is the contractor?’

She flips to a certain page – as she does, your two superiors do too.

‘Oh, dear, you know who they are, they’re right there, Madam.’

‘Mr Deputy Mayor,’ Takao says condescendingly, and the atmosphere drops visibly. ‘these contractors for the restoration aren’t officially contracted to duty; they’re a sign-off of development and for commercial and private usage.’

‘It’s a commercial district. Of course we’ll hire privately; we need to pretty the place up, after all.’ One of the other suits says, smiling. The Deputy Mayor is not.

‘Not when it’s public property, you’re not.’ Takao says with a wry smile. ‘Mr Deputy Mayor, I’ve been through this before. I’ve negotiated between the Navy and the Admiralty for jurisdiction on the development and transfer of power over a lot’s status from public to private.’ She drops the files onto the table, ‘In this case, you’re the Admiralty and the Navy… are the people of this town.’

‘You – !’

‘You’re selling the town off to a murder of crows, brick by brick.’

The other suit raises himself in anger.

‘How dare you accuse the Deputy Mayor of such deception! We are done!’

ACTING!’ He yells at the man.

Takao is unfazed, sitting on the table and coldly regarding them.

‘I know these contractors. I know which firms they answer to. I’ve worked with them before. The sub-contract you took is a sell-out clause, illegal and punishable with pretty lengthy jail term in your courts, sir. I’m pretty sure whatever you signed off on, you have a pretty hefty bonus to key in.’

‘There is no such thing.’ He grits his teeth.

‘A contract handing over development and investment would have been our only option. What do you suppose we could have done? There was no way we could have predicted it could have happened in such a way. How are you going to pin this on us?’

‘That’s right. This could have been legal; it could have been allowed. There’s nothing to say a firm couldn’t wholly take the properties, but…’

She flips to the second page, her eyes cold and her smirk dripping with triumph

‘You would have told the Lord. I don’t see his signature or seal anywhere here.’

The Vice-Admiral laughs in his seat, taking out a cigarette.

‘Damn, Lady. If you were mine...’

Takao winks at him.

The legal stuff Takao talked about has flown straight over my head. What is it exactly that the Deputy Mayor wanted to do with the non-public contractor, and why was it illegal?
>>
>>180915
You can have a pre-determined agreement with a private entity to work on a public (bus stops, pavements) item. Most of the world does and leave the contract exclusively to them. As the DM, he has every right to push it through because it's his town and he's the government's rep. However, once the exclusive private contract reaches a certain scale or size, you are legally obliged to tell the Senate/House/Whatever Body that you are doing that shit.

They also turn those down at a very high rate because it's too much to give hold of one thing to one firm. Exceptions are electrical and water companies, mostly. DM thought he could make a quick buck by not telling the Lord (The nation's equivalent of a Governor) and giving the firms full control of the financial matters of the commercial district once it was done up.

Which would give the firms a clause to own that district PRIVATELY and not have to answer to anyone but the DM and the DM could go to the Lord and say whatever excuse was justified because "look how pretty they did up the place".

Takao gives you an amused glance, and you nod at her to continue. No sense messing with a woman when she got the motor running, after all. Even Nagato looked calmed down somewhat, intently listening to her case.

‘You’re a KanMusu, aren’t you?’ the thin and frail man stands up. ‘What would you know about authority? You’re pretty much doing the same thing; handing over the district to you for nine months? Not to mention these!’ He picks up a particular sheet. ‘You’re playing the same dirty game we are, so what are you doing taking the high road like we’re the – the only bunch of crooks?’

‘I never said we weren’t playing dirty.’ Takao says slyly, leaning herself over the table. ‘I said we had approval. More than I can say for you.’

‘This is outrageous.’

‘Not as much as it will be for you if you don’t sign off.’ Takao says, a dangerous smile on her featres. ‘Or don’t sign off; either way, this file… Admiral?’

‘The file you have given us will be used as evidence in the case against you and your plans.’ The Admiral says, Takao’s smirk catching onto his. ‘I think the Lord would very much like to see this.’

‘It’ll never hold!’ The Deputy Mayor practically stutters. ‘Your tactical SNAFU – the Admiralty’s tactical SNAFU – has made every Lord weary! None of them will believe you.’ He finishes with the utmost confidence.

‘No, but the firms will.’ Takao replies in a sing-song voice, deadlier than any Princess.

You make a mental note to yourself never to get on her bad side.

What?’

‘They’re going to deny any involvement. Believe me, I know all about how they operate.’ She hums brightly, stretching casually from her seat on the table. ‘They’re going to tell the Lord they had nothing to do with it – that you acted on an assumption and played it so that you’d have something to gain.’

‘Sir! We’re leaving, now.’

But you knew it was too late. Like an eager fly, Takao had drawn a man over his head into her deadly web.

She’s just adding spice now.

‘The Big Bad Deputy Mayor did it all.’ She giggles eerily, sending chills up your spine. ‘We didn’t know; please spare us.’

‘Sir!’

‘Quiet!’ He barks at his colleague, straightening himself in his chair, breaking into a smile. ‘Madam, I believe we got off on the wrong foot here. What I mean to say is that… I'd be… glad to turn the district over to the Yokosuka Admiralty; but, of course, there will be… watchdog measures? To prevent…’

He gestures with his hand. Whatever it was about, Takao only nodded happily in response.

‘Oh definitely, sir.’

She goes the long way around, surprisingly getting high-fives from the Admiral and Nagato. When she gets to the Vice-Admiral, though, he puts her in his lap.

Takao doesn’t protest.

‘Vice-Admiral.’

‘Commander.’ The man playfully smirks back; you know there’s nothing serious to it, but there is an irksome quality to it, even if he doesn’t mean anything by it.

‘Would you please release my KanMusu, sir?’ You say coolly; even if he is your superior, you reserved the right to at least be firm.

‘I don’t know, actually.’ He smirks, putting a hand on Takao’s lap. She doesn’t push it away, either.

‘Yeah.’ Takao grins teasingly, looking from you to the Vice-Admiral. ‘I don’t know either.’

You regard the both of them neutrally. You’re not sure if there’s quite anything there, but you know that they’re both teasing you to oblivion. You bite your lip, not sure how to proceed. On one hand, Takao had effectively controlled the room for the Admiralty, and on the other… The Vice-Admiral is your superior. You lean back in your chair, picking up the piece of paper.

‘If you wanted to humiliate me, Takao, mission accomplished. Congratulations to the both of you. You got me.’ You turn away from the both of them, giving your attention back to the bureaucrats.

‘Commander…’ The Vice-Admiral sighs, and Takao raises herself from her spot. Whatever they’d hoped to accomplish with you, they’d succeeded, really.

Didn’t they want to see you angry? Annoyed? Then they’d done their job.

‘It was just a joke, sir.’ Takao says, standing behind your chair.

‘Of course it was.’

‘Gentlemen, if we can continue with the agenda, I’d like to have all this done before lunch.’ The Admiral clears the air; Takao puts a hand on your shoulder, but you don’t look at her, turning to the next few pages of the document. ‘Since we’ve sorted out the matter of jurisdiction, now we’re moving on to the current situation in the district.’

‘I was there a couple of days back.’ You cross your arms, looking seriously to the Admiral, who nods in understanding. ‘There’s not much, but I think we have a scavenger issue.’

‘Not scavengers, kid. Gangs.’ The Admiral puts down his cap. ‘The whole commercial district’s been a gang zone since the attack. I don’t know how in the world they organized themselves so fast, but the place has been declared a no-go zone for this town. We can’t just send a gang inside and the authorities want nothing to do with it.’

‘Then send me in; it’s what you have me around for, isn’t it, sir?’

The Admiral sighs; the suits aren’t impressed.

‘Perfect, send He who just held His woman’s hand to sort things out.’

‘She’s his woman.’ You jab a thumb in the Vice-Admiral’s direction.

Commander.’ He growls.

‘I’ll go there tonight. Takao,’ You give her a pat on the shoulder, ‘I think you know how to fill out your own damn transfer rec.’

You’re out the door and down the hall.

‘Sir!’ You turn around to see Nagato and she’s not happy. 'Mind telling me what the Hell that's about?'

OOC: He's got issues. One of the things he's really fragile about is his ego in front of an audience again, from the few choices on the bus. He feels a little betrayed (Unnecessarily, because he should have been a good sport about the joke), but he also wants to keep up the appearance that he's a competent officer. It's a little of that "I am macho" shit. It was hinted at with the Nagato "date" when Nagato pointed out he cares more about his ego than he would admit.

The best option would have been for him to just ignore it: "Anything else on the agenda". But because of his own ego (Again, he can't see it) he doesn't see the humor and can't take it easy in front of an audience. He's not a "brat", right now he wants to assert himself as the main man because he feels that, as a Commander, he HAS to and is too stubborn to do anything else. Nagato warned him not to do that shit, but it's got to be addressed.

There are things he's comfortable with, but if there's one thing he can't do it's be himself on the outside as well as in. You can theorize that's why he values the KanMusu as a sort of... sanctuary, I guess?

Also, incoming heavy drama scene.

‘It’s nothing.’

‘Sir!’

You blitz past a few of the workers, some of the present military personnel, pushing the door from the office to get yourself anywhere but here. You don’t get far past the steps and into the battered plaza, when Nagato blocks your way with a look that could freeze Hell. Her teeth are bare and her fists are clenched; you can tell that she’s in no mood to be ignored.

She gestures to the open doors, glaring menacingly.

‘When you put on that uniform, you promise yourself to act with the dignity and integrity of those chosen to bear it. If you think that either of those are an option I strongly suggest you drop it off and – !’

‘What else do I have Nagato?!’ You yell back at her, startling her for a bit; you’re in no mood either, rounding on her, for some reason the eyes of the Vice-Admiral, Admiral and Takao blend with hers, and you feel everything just come to the surface for a turn. ‘I’m an overweight loser given a chance of a lifetime and all I’ve been doing so far is fuck it up! I almost got Tenryuu and Nachi killed! I practically harassed Kaga! Shigure probably has a voodoo doll of me after what I said to her and you! I don’t even know how you feel, down-grading yourself to me from someone like the Admiral!’

Nagato’s gaze softens, and you find a hand tugging on your prosthetic; you almost recoil at her touch, so attuned you are to the world around you as you let it all out. There are no tears, no weeping… but a sense of vulnerability, a sense of hopelessness and helplessness – a sense for yourself, all things considered…

‘You tell me I’m not a loser, but it sure does feel like it.’

‘And how does it feel like?’ She holds your arm… an unsure grip.

‘Like I’m inadequate. That I won’t measure up.’ You bite your lip. ‘That every time you guys look at me…’

The next part is the hardest to admit.

You feel like you could do better.’

‘Ah, shit, what am I saying?’ ‘Look, I’m – !’

‘Commander.’

The both of you are interrupted by the beret-wearing visage of the Vice-Admiral, who looks the very picture of anger. You curse under your breath, suddenly remembering just who you had thrown that particular tantrum to at full force.

‘Vice-Admiral.’ You grumble; if he has anything to say about it, he doesn’t… or not yet.

‘Care to explain what went down back there?’

You look away, rubbing the back of your neck. You feel embarrassed now for your tantrum, but you also felt a degree of annoyance at this man. He takes off his beret, and you expect that he would be demanding an explanation soon.

‘Just a little - !’

You don’t finish. You can’t finish. A straight, strong jab hits your jaw, landing you on your bottom.

The same condescending eyes regard you and the Vice-Admiral rips off his scarf.

‘You really are the bottom of the barrel, aren’t you?’

Vice-Admiral!’

Nagato moves in between you, but he pushes himself past her. You had a slight bruise, but were otherwise fine. You get yourself to your feet, rubbing your jaw. The Vice-Admiral was taller, faster and stronger than you – not to mention a whole lot more experienced. You’re out-gunned, but most importantly, you’re outranked.

‘I’m not fighting you, sir.’ You shake your head, raising a hand to protest. ‘I know the reg – !’

He grabs it, somehow elbowing you in the chest; you feel something come up and get caught in your throat, when he grabs you by the collar and flips all 200 pounds of you into the air and into a slam onto the pavement. The pain is excruciating, but you somehow retain consciousness. You grab your shoulder, feeling a heat spreading from it; you’d landed on it from the flip.

You groan, seeing Nagato’s worried gaze as you struggle to get up. You feel your collar get grabbed, and again, you’re dragged and pulled. This time right up to your tiptoes, finding yourself in a torturous chokehold. Your knees struggle to find bearing and balance as it feels like you’re being bent out of shape. The hold lasts shorter than you expect, and you kiss the pavement with a throw. You feel a sting on the top of your left eye.

You’d drawn blood. You try to cite regulations but find that… they just didn’t matter. Not with this man, not this time. He cricks your neck, pulling painfully on your hair.

‘Then quit.’ He whispers – no, threatens – into your ear, ‘We don’t need anyone but fighters here.’

You get to your feet, glaring daggers at him as you raise your fists – not for attack, but to protect yourself.

‘I don’t see how that’s rele – !’

You don’t see the kick coming. It clips you right by your ear. Time seems to slow as you fall to your side, your feet failing to find any flat ground and your body bouncing and rolling almost comically. A crowd begins to gather; they whisper to each other and yell out cheers.

Your left ear stings like nothing else, but you make out the mumbling of the gathered crowd, each and every one of them watching the one-sided fight. The rational part of you argues that this was more of an execution… one that you had signed up for with your insubordination, you deduce.

‘Hey, isn’t that the new Vice?’

‘He’s kickin’ the Commander’s ass.’

‘He musta messed with the Vice’s girl or something.’

The irony of that statement is palpable.

‘Come on.’ He taunts. ‘Get up if you want it.’

You don’t move. He does; almost as fast as a KanMusu, you feel too blows on your chest, one on your jaw… and a kick that hooks and slams you into the pavement again.

‘Vice-Admiral, stop!’

He grabs your hair, smirking at you.

‘No wonder she sat on my lap. She needed an upgrade. You? You’re a lazy chair.’

You glare at him.

Whatever.’

You roll along the ground. Again, and again, and again. You don’t fight back. You don’t bother. You tell yourself that it will be over soon. That after he gets bored, he’ll spit on you, move on and go away and you’ll never be bothered again. You taste the ground, your lips are cut and your shoulders and back are bruised. Your uniform, once pristine, is a mess.

You muse that, right now… you must have really looked the part of the loser.

So why did you keep getting back up?

A blow to the head.

A kick to the gut.

You’d lost so much. So many times it had come on to you. Everything had come to a head, you’d lost and lost and lost, so why did you keep getting back up? After being spat on, why did you tell yourself that you could move on?

It’s because…

‘I want to win.’

He kicks you in the chest.

This time it was his mistake.

‘Wha – ?’

You’re pretty sure that you just twisted his ankle, after having your arm catch it. He yells, almost comically, as both your arms catch his right foot and give it a sickening crunch, sending him into a spin and tossing him onto the floor. You retreat slightly, and the crowd roars from your reversal. That’s right. You’d told yourself the wrong thing all this time.’

Nagato was right. This was never about your team. Never about your word.

He’s still faster than you, but this time you brace yourself. Your fat ass absorbs the kick, and you raise your arms with a smirk. He smirks right back at you. His ankle is twisted, but he’s still faster than you; it didn’t matter, you’re built for punishment, not for speed. He punches you in the chest.

It’s not as painful as the days before you got on that bus.

You were not okay with it.

He slaps you from both sides in an excruciating chop that rattles your teeth. You power on through.

Takao’s condescending giggles hurt more.

‘You’re starting to fight?’

‘No.’ You grab him by the throat… and his eyes go as wide with fear as the man in Mamiya’s. You don’t revel in it. Fear isn’t the objective.

Getting your point across is.

Your prosthetic slaps him across the cheek as he tries to get free, but try as he might, he can’t let go. You won’t let him let go. You won’t allow him an inch away from you. Not anymore. Not for anyone. One slap, two slaps, three… you draw blood and bruise his nose, clipping his eye with your metal gear.

He knees you in the gut. You backhand him as he finally gets away. You raise your arms in an orthodox stands, and the Vice-Admiral falls to one knee, his one good eye looking at you in disbelief.

‘What’s wrong? It’s only Round One.’

The sneers. The laughter. The jeers. The humiliation. You were having NONE OF IT.

And you were going to beat it into this Vice-Admiral’s head just how the fuck you rolled.

‘Finally got off your high horse, huh?’

He limps slightly, bringing his cruel form into another boxing stance. You have your arms up – making a small target didn’t matter because you can’t outpace him, no matter what. The Vice-Admiral is superhuman, you’d say – and you are already in worse shape than he is. There’s no cruelty in his voice. No threat. He even looks… dare you say it? Relieved.

‘I figured it wasn’t worth being pushed around if I kept riding.’ You finally say.

He laughs, genuinely amused.

‘Attaboy.’ He nods at you.

You let your guard down for a moment, and he’s right in your face again, swinging and hooking with all the precision of a seasoned veteran. There’s no chance for you to get something in, fast and accurate as he is. It takes all of your concentration to swing shoulder-to-shoulder to meet his blows. You don’t throw anything out.

‘You gonna keep being my punching bag all day or what?’

He raises his good foot again, catching you on your clavicle. It hurts like Hell, and gives you a good ringing in your left shoulder. He tries to pull away for a follow-up but your prosthetic has his leg by now, and he finally realizes just what you’re up to.

‘No. I’m just looking for an aikido dummy.’

‘Shi – !’

You do the same thing with this leg. With a grip, you flip him diagonally, making him kiss dirt harder than anyone ever did. The crowd gathered breaks into a roar as you step yourself back, again laying in weight.

You may not get many chances, but you sure as Hell are going to make them count.

‘Not bad.’

The Vice-Admiral looks genuinely proud of you. Confused, you let your guard down again. And again… he’s back in your face. He gets a good punch in, rattling your senses. Again, you swing shoulder-to-shoulder to meet whatever blows he has.

‘Ain’t over ‘till it’s over, Commander!’ He yells over the crowd. One punch. Two punch. Three punch. Four. ‘Focus! There’s me and I’m still up; do something about it!’

You start swinging back. He doesn’t dodge your blows. Every hit, he takes. Every move, he mimics until you’re both just mirror images of each other, going back and forth.

‘Take it and dish it back!’

You nod.

‘Don’t stand still! Don’t look inwards!’

You promise you never will.

‘Focus!’ One punch. ‘Deduce!’ Two punch. ‘Win!’

You grab his fist with your prosthetic and meet his fiery eyes with your own steely gaze.

‘Remember: You’re their God-damned COMMANDER.’ He whispers.

You put the man in a choke-hold from the back easily after a spin. He makes a show of struggling; he crowd around you roars again, and you hear over the din…

‘Get ‘em, man! Get ‘im!’

‘That’s the Vice, innit?!’

‘Shit, he’s getting humiliated by that fatty?!’

‘Man, he’s pathetic!’

And with a look at the Vice-Admiral, you realize just what’s going on.

The Vice-Admiral certainly made a show of struggling. The crowd is cheering you on, Nagato is actually looking… impressed by you, for once and you’re the center of attention, but you realize that it isn’t worth a boost of your pride just to – !

‘You’re… pretty good…’

All right, now you’re just annoyed by the bad acting.

The proverbial lightbulb clicks over your head, foggy as it is. You quickly release your grip on the man, who does a roll into a three-point stance – you see the confused look in his eyes… and give a good nod to him. The confusion is thick in the air, as his bruised face morphs into a bewildered sort of disbelief.

You put your hands to your throat, gasping for air.

‘Vice-Admiral!’ You ham it up through the soreness. ‘I concede our duel! You are the better of the two of us! Your Strikes of the Calm Viper have restricted my throat and my ability to continue combat! I concede that your School of the Coiled Serpent is the better to my Temple of the Hungry Dog!’ You hold your throat, dramatically reaching out. ‘Please, I beg you to release me from an odorous doom such as this!’

The crowd begins to mumble.

‘Witness, my fellow soldiers and workmen, your superior and my better, who I concede authority and – and – oh please, Sir Vice-Admiral, release me from this!’

The Vice-Admiral, to your annoyance, enjoys it a little too much. His eyes practically light up at your ham.

‘Ah, you have definitely tasted my mettle. It is fit for you to taste such a helping for I, the Vice-Admiral of Yokosuka have announced my arrival by dethroning you, Commander!’ He walks over to you, putting a hand on your shoulder, at which you take the opportunity to milk the cow, raising dramatically. ‘But I am not without mercy, Large and Capable One, for I offer you the chance to be my student and learn my ways!’

You take a knee, hands outstretched as though in blessing.

‘O Vice-Admiral, I concede! My strength is yours!’

‘What the Hell is going on here?!’

The Admiral’s furious voice cries out, his displeasure apparent.

‘Commander!’

Takao, her eyes red with worry, looks to the both of you and runs to you, putting you in a painful embrace. You feel a little guiltier for doubting her now, and the Vice-Admiral gives you a wink. Nagato walks over to you, frowning.

‘You two better have a God-damned explanation for this shit or I’m going to throw you both in the brig.’

‘It was just a disagreement, sir.’

‘Over what?’

‘Well, it all started with me saying Tsugumi was best girl and - !’

Chaos erupts.

‘Kosaki is, pleb!’

‘As if! Haru for life!’

‘Friggin’ Chitoge-fags!’

The plaza went into an all-out melee, with personnel and workers beating each other to a pulp. To your surprise, the Admiral is among them, clocking someone with a folding chair.

The screech of a familiar buggy sounds, and a toothy grin is seen.

‘Need a ride, folks?'

You honestly don’t care if it’s the Devil himself. You hail the old man, stumbling as you get up. Takao holds on to you, but you shake her off, nodding to her that you’re fine. The brawl escalates as cries escalated and battle hymns are sung; you wonder just what in the world is going on with flying bricks and chairs. You manage yourself into the back seat, the old man turning a bemused look to the all-out melee.

‘If it isn’t a bother,’ you offer a bloody smile, ‘I’d like a trip to the MASH, old man.’

‘It’s no bother.’ He says kindly, patting the wheel. ‘But you all right, son? Got caught up in a brawl?’

‘Something like that.’ You get up into the passenger’s seat, feeling a little sore as you lean back.

‘Mind if I hitch?’ The Vice-Admiral suddenly appears, his hand on the side of the buggy, standing on the buggy’s step; he’s addressing the old man, who nods.

‘Heading the same way?’ He grimaces, gesturing to his badly cut lip.

‘You know it.’ The Vice-Admiral grunts, and you frown as he climbs up fully into the buggy, giving you a flat look. ‘Commander, to the back seat.’

‘I was here first.’ You say, not in the mood to move at all.

‘Yeah, but I don’t want you wailing on me during the ride.’ He gestures with his head to the back seat.

You look to the back to see Takao and Nagato hauling themselves in; you look back to the Vice-Admiral, who gestures again the middle back seat. You sigh, deciding he did have a point. You grit your teeth and your belly as you squeeze to the back seat, where Takao and Nagato catch you. You try to sit upright, but find that because of your girth, you were shoulder-to-shoulder with both KanMusu.

Nagato grabs onto your leg, lifting it rather painfully, and turning you without a word. You find yourself flat on your seat, your legs on Nagato… and your battered head on Takao’s. Takao looks at you worriedly, opening her mouth to say something before keeping it shut. Her lap is soft and her scent is welcome and familiar, but you don’t say a word yourself – you know you’re the one at fault here.

The engine’s rev is familiar – the two KanMusu you’re using as a makeshift hammock stiffen, but the old man, reading the situation, takes it into a slow drive, away from the plaza and heading straight to the MASH.

‘So, young man, you’re going to tell me what all that was about?’ You open your mouth to answer, but it becomes apparent that the old man is addressing the Vice-Admiral. ‘Gang war?’

‘No, just a civil discussion that went bad.’ The Vice-Admiral chuckles. Before grunting in pain, throwing a look to the back at you before turning back to the old man. ‘Waifu Wars.’

‘Ah. Back in my day, we had Sayla.’

‘What about Lala – !’

‘If you mention that name in here, son, you better get used to walking.’

You chuckle.

‘I’m sorry, Takao.’ You grunt, getting into a more comfortable position. Her locks sway with the wind, but she doesn’t say anything yet. ‘I should’ve been more reasonable; I overreacted. I was an ass.’

‘You can say that again.’ The Vice-Admiral sounds from the front; you turn your head to the passenger seat to see him looking at all three of you, his bruised form offering a sort of assurance. ‘Don’t you have anything else?’

‘Shouldn’t you be minding your own business?’ You say flatly.

‘After what you pulled I think I deserve this.’

You look at Takao’s expectant face, now lined with tears. Her mouth is trembling, but she doesn’t say anything, still. You sigh, hands on your waist as you take in her scent. You’d at least thought that she’d yell at you; point out how much time you’d wasted with your tantrum, but you’d never thought that Takao’s silence could give you so much more dread and that much more guilt. Takao gently strokes your hair.

She gives you a soft smile, nodding.

‘I need you, Takao.’ Now that was something you didn’t want to admit; but right now… you did. You wouldn’t have gotten anywhere with that meeting without Takao’s intervention; nor do you think you could go on without her advice in your ear if the situation ever came up again. Your harsh words for her to leave, to get a transfer and be out of your sight, you wish you can take them back. ‘I wouldn’t have gone through today without you there.’

Takao stoically regards you.

‘I can’t pretend I’m not hurt, sir.’ She says, and you understand; boy, do you understand. ‘But I should’ve known that you were the possessive type. You don’t like to share, do you?’

Wait. Hold up.

‘I never said that.’ You never said that.

‘In so many words, I understand.’ She looks at you with love in her eyes, and you find yourself fallen into another of her well-placed traps like a stupid rat. ‘Vice-Admiral, you may be debonair and dashing, but I can’t leave my dear Commander all alone without me. He can barely fend for himself; he so likes to be spoiled

‘I never said that. Takao, don’t put words in my mouth.’

‘I can’t pretend I’m not disappointed, my conference room concubine, but alas I shall have to accept your decision.’ The Vice-Admiral gives a thumbs up, wiping away a fake tear. ‘Take care of my love for me, comrade.’

‘Stop it.’

‘Oh, he’s jealous. Look at him turn red.’ She gives you a kiss on the forehead, ‘Oh, don’t worry, sir, I’ll give you a nice bath when we reach the barracks.

Bath?!’ The other three occupants of the buggy cry out; Nagato looks at you in horror, the Vice-Admiral actually looks impressed, and the old man howls.

You feel Nagato’s vice-like grip on your boot and a twisted smile that promised horrors.

‘Gee, son, two babes? Hah!’

You groan.

‘Nagato, you’re angry with me.’

You point out; she had a firm grip on your boot, and while her expression was stoic as anything, you could tell, even with the slightest twitch that she had her mind on something that wasn’t in front of her. You wait for her reply, several strands of her hair dancing with the rush of wind. Nagato finally sighs, looking at you with an emotion you can’t place proper.

‘No, I’m not angry with you, sir.’

That’s a lie, but not much of one. She’s more dismissive that argumentative, but for you, that didn’t mean that you would keep her boiling with it – a quiet Nagato… meant a Nagato that wasn’t happy at all.

‘I’m sorry.’ You breathe, shifting your feet to get her attention; she frowns. ‘You’re right; you’re right; I have an ego. It’s the size of a house and I pretend that it’s me following some self-righteous codex.’

M-hm.’ It’s a small twitch of her lips, meaning it’s something she wanted to hear.

‘I assaulted a superior officer.’ You go on – technically, you didn’t, but you never knew how that processed in Nagato’s thoughts; you think it best to cover your bases.

‘Nice tactics, by the way.’ The Vice-Admiral makes his presence known, smirking from his seat. ‘Been in a street fight or two?’

‘Been beat up a lot.’ You reply solemnly.

‘Sir, I’m not angry with you.’ Nagato finally says; she looks like she’s struggling with something, ‘I’m just… I was worried you got in over your head.’ She puts a hand on your prosthetic, her eyes red – with concern. ‘Hard as it is for me to tell you this, but in the short time that I’ve known you, you’ve been one to toss yourself headfirst without thinking.’

‘I don’t...’ You struggle, coming to terms with yet another unfortunate truth for you. ‘At least I don’t think that’s...’

‘You’re being a little unfair.’ The Vice-Admiral interjects, not turning from his seat. ‘It’s not like any of us are fully trained for the real thing. The trenches, the gunfire…’ He trails off, but both you and Nagato listen closely to him. ‘We all need to keep learning. What we have right now isn’t enough – even for you, Ms Battleship. Not after what happened.’

‘It’s no excuse for me either.’ You place your left hand over Nagato’s; you did have a lot to learn, and you had run out of excuses the a long time ago – she gives your hand a tight squeeze, grateful that you had at least admitted to that. You joke, 'Not when she's here to push me around.'

Nagato lets out a small laugh.

'So, then, pay a little more attention to me, won't you?'

You give her a nod. Mission accomplished.

‘A good shower would do that, wouldn’t it sir?’

God damn it, Takao.

Nagato’s smile grows wider and wider, giving your boots a nice, long SQUEEZE.

‘NAGATO! MY LEG! MY LEG!’

‘What’s your story?’ The Vice-Admiral’s head shifts in his seat from your view.

‘Excuse me, sir?’ You reply, puzzled by the inquiry.

‘Your story – how’d you end up in a place like this?’

‘It’s a short one.’ You grimace. ‘Saw a poster, got on the bus here, applied.’

‘Is that so?’ He chuckles, turning around to give you a good look. ‘You’re a pretty good fighter. Got history there?’

‘No.’ You say truthfully; you’re not quite willing to divulge all the humiliation that built up to that moment, though – school alleys, in the back of arcades, ‘Just got beat up a lot.’

He nods grimly.

‘Decent instincts – good endurance; never put those to work before?’ He questions you again; the buggy jolts as the old man takes another cut.

‘I tried kickboxing… didn’t work out much for me.’ You reminisce, unconsciously rubbing your shoulder as you’re reminded of that wasteful endeavor. ‘Ended up on the mat more a lot more than any of my instructors. Quit after 2 months ‘cause I couldn’t afford it anymore.’

‘What were you before you decided to sign up?’

‘I was a cook for a while. Got fired; thought I didn’t have anything to lose coming out here.’

‘No one does.’ The Vice-Admiral surprisingly agrees with you, looking seriously at you. ‘A lot of the guts and glory type don’t last long or don’t make it far in the Admiralty. Seen my fair share of the best and brightest fold on the field and get shafted from Reserve to Personnel.’

‘Then what type does?’ You can’t help the smile that creeps upon your features, and the Vice-Admiral returns it with his own.

‘The type that knows that discretion means more for tomorrow than valor.’

There’s a strange atmosphere hanging around now; not ten minutes ago you and the Vice-Admiral were trading kicks, hooks and throws to establish your short-sighted and ultimately cheap place as a big man on campus. Now, you feel almost embarrassed trading stories with him like a pathetic junior to their impressive senior. Not that’s far off from the truth, of course.

‘And you, sir?’

‘Wouldn’t you like to know?’ He gives you a grin before turning back to his seat. You don’t see his expression, but you can tell there’s a wistful emotion to his voice, ‘I used to be Air Force.’

You wait for the follow-up, but it doesn’t arrive, and you don’t pry, either. Everyone had a story to tell… and Vice-Admiral just wasn’t ready to tell you yet, it would seem. Maybe he didn’t trust you with it, or he was just uncomfortable; but he’d work it out in his own time, you supposed.

The buggy stops in front of the MASH Compound, which you see isn’t that crowded just yet.

You and the Vice-Admiral stumble comically as you both take your first steps onto Terra Firma.

‘Come on, Commander.’ Nagato hoists your arm around her. ‘Let’s get you treated.’

‘No.’ You say automatically. ‘I want to see Tenryuu and Nachi first.’

Nagato glares at you as Takao hooks your prosthetic around her… and she gives you a glare, too.

‘I swear, I’m not hurt that bad.’

Takao and Nagato only glare at you harder; you muster up a counter, staring back and them for compliance with your decision. You’re sore all over, but other than the cut on your forehead, your bruised chin and the pain on your torso – plus the headache and pain in your neck, of course, you feel perfectly healthy. In fact, you still had all your teeth. They don’t back down from the deadlock, your arms around them as they lifted you like a drunkard to his home.

‘I’m seeing Tenryuu and Nachi.’

‘Fine.’ Nagato reluctantly agrees and Takao lets out a sigh, before turning back to the Vice-Admiral. ‘How about you, sir?’

‘I could use… a little help.’

‘Takao,’ you nod at her to attend to the fallen man; she’s a bit reluctant, and you let out a grimace laced with guilt, before again motioning with your head to the Vice-Admiral, ‘it’s okay, really.’

Takao lifts him to his feet and you see him struggle to put weight on his ankles – you’d done that during your rough-housing session. A little more guilt hits you.

‘Do you know where Akashi’s tent is?’

‘Yeah, I’ll take him there and catch up with you.’ She gives you a nod of affirmation, and goes on her way with the Vice-Admiral, before stopping and turning to you and Nagato. ‘No hanky-panky, you two.’

You acknowledge her warning with a wave of your prosthetic. You feel a sense of balance coming over you as she leaves and take your burden off Nagato’s shoulders. Nagato, however, is reluctant to let go of you – but a raise of your hand and an assuring pat on her shoulder later, and you’re off. It doesn’t take long until you come upon their tent. You flash your tag to the MP and walk in, and see your two recovering KanMusu…

Nude and changing into new hospital gowns.

Typical. Just. Typical.

‘What the Hell happened to you?!’ Tenryuu cries out, looking at your battered form. ‘The heck did you two do last night?!’

‘Nothing. The Commander got into a fight,’ Nagato sighs, ‘a few fights.’

Tenryuu tosses the hospital gown over her and so does Nachi – they didn’t care about being in the buff around you either, it would seem.

‘What kinda fight?’ She inquires.

‘Oh.’ You say sarcastically – Nagato cracks a small smile. ‘For your honor, of course.’

‘Me?’

‘Of course. You’re my Tenryuu-sama, after all. Did you think they’d get away with anything less?’ Nagato snickers and Nachi rubs her temples, your joking tone more than obvious.

To everyone except Tenryuu, it would seem.

Oh.’ She blushes.

OOC: Tenryuu has never been joked upon. She's so far up the hierarchy of prank, no one's stooped to her level and lead her on. In the military, people think of her as a bit of a nuisance, but find her friendly enough to keep around and do odd jobs - she's intelligent, but not very street smart. She doesn't get sarcasm in an instant, for example. This scene is triggered from her participation in the mission and you falling for her prank back a few threads ago she genuinely does think you're trying to woo her. Be warned of soft Tsun. >real life waifu wars are canon in this world

i love this quest
>>
Even with a bruised, battered and very much bloody head on your shoulders in addition to being sore almost everywhere on your body, you can’t help but feel and evil need to go on with your little fib. Tenryuu’s naive face is just a little too much temptation.

‘What is it, Tenryuu? Surely you can comprehend just how special and valuable are to us, to the Base… to me’ You bat your eyelashes a little too dramatically.

Nagato’s suppressed guffaws reach your ears.

Tenryuu looks like she’s stuttering, at a loss of words and twiddling her thumbs, a tingle of something must be rushing through her; you hope it’s from being put on the spot – in her hospital gown, she looks very cold.

‘I… It’s quite okay… I don’t need you to fight my battles, sir…’ She looks away from you, rubbing her forearm.

‘But I want to. Tenryuu, I can’t keep my feelings inside anymore.’ You spread your arms wide, as if to embrace the whole world, adopting dramatic fervor. ‘Let’s live our days in the countryside, where no one will bother us and the yellow house of bricks will be our Haven!’

‘C – Commander!’

‘This is love!’ You round on her, your eyes crying out like one of those horrible actors.

‘It’s desertion!’ She hides her face in her hands, her ears redder than tomatoes.

‘No one here will stop us! Not even Nachi!’ You gesture with a hand to the Nachi, who gives you a flat look.

‘Leave me outta this. I’ve got another 18 hours in here and if the both of you are gone for that time, I’m all for it.’

‘18 hours?’ You stop with the act immediately.

‘Yup.’ She gestures to you. ‘What’s the real story behind that, anyway? You look like…’ She grins. ‘You look like I made good, actually.’

‘Street fight.’ You shrug.

‘Nice.’ Nachi smirks.

‘Brawling with a superior officer.’

Nachi looks at you with a blank look. She looks in shock, actually.

Are you trying to make me fall for you?’

‘No. I actually got into a fight with the Vice-Admiral. Takao’s got him in treatment.’ You roll your eyes that hurt, too.

Nachi drops a book she’d just produced.

‘You won?!’

‘No, it was… cut short. Nachi?’

Nachi looks strange. Her lips seemed to be quivering and a certain cloud had come over her eyes. She twiddles her thumbs, much like Tenryuu had done, and her attention goes back and forth between you, her sheet and her book like she was trying to confirm the reality of your truth. She shivers a little... before going back to reading.

Sir?’

Tenryuu approaches you, confused and expectant. You’d had your fun, anyway.

‘I was just playing with you, Tenryuu.’

Tenryuu’s mouth goes wide, closes, goes wide again, throws you a glare of pure hate… and dives for her bed and into the covers, where she curses up a storm, hidden from the world.

‘BASTARD! ASSHOLE! CRAWL IN A HOLE AND DIE!’

Go to college anime Convention in Malaysia. They ARE Canon. Marisa vs Remilia almost broke into a melee.

I was thinking some kind of trashy romance, but evenif it is BL, it could be funny seeing her either explain it with a straight face or extremely embarrassed when doing so

And another thing to add to the list of good things about her

>Kaga's into rap
We gotta catch her sometime

>>188540
Going by her reaction to the Commander fighting his superior officer, it seems that she likes bad boys or men with backbones of steel
>>
‘How about you, Tenryuu?’

She peeks her head out of the covers, her face red and her lips scrunched up in annoyance. You feel that you owe her something, but can’t bring yourself to say it. You wince as you clutch your side – Nagato attends to you, holding you up as you make your way to an empty bedside next to Tenryuu’s. She worriedly looks at you, and you suddenly think that seeing Akashi first would have been a better decision – Hell, even getting attended to by personnel would have left you a bit better; you conclude.

‘I’m fine.’ She grumbles, looking away from you. ‘You’re evil, sir.’

‘Ah, but I am effective.’ You give her a wink, not bothering to lie down because you didn’t feel the need to. ‘But really, how are you coming along? You going to be discharged at the same time as Nachi?’

‘Yeah, but I need a regular dosage of Fairy’s Tears for the next couple of days after I’m kicked out to get myself fighting fit.’ She looks away from you, still under the covers and poking her head out like a tortoise. ‘You checking in for treatment, too?’

‘Yeah.’ You rub away at the blood on your head, seeing it on your fingers and wiping it on your fatigues. ‘I thought I’d see my team before I put myself into the Doctor’s hands.’

‘You shouldn’t do that.’ Nachi says flatly, her lips a thin line as she raises her head to you. ‘Akashi doesn’t like it when people think they know their condition better than the medics do – or more than she does. Especially for Officers and KanMusu.’ She finishes grimly.

‘I thought Akashi only specialized in KanMusu. Why would she be treating the Officers, too?’ You cock your head, trying to remember a few of the fuzzier details. ‘I thought she wasn’t experienced at taking care of humans – at least that’s what I understood?

Tenryuu and Nachi look at you like you’d spouted some fertilizer from your nose.

‘You are our Commander, aren’t you sir?’

A cold sensation comes into the room as you prepare a reply and fail. You turn around to see Takao, the Vice-Admiral who was in crutches and bandages, and Akashi… who had quite possibly the most unnerving and horrific smile known to mortal eyes. You try to raise yourself, but find that you can’t. You can’t move at all.

‘Ah, so this is the all-knowing patient who thinks he’s more knowledgeable than the doctor who’s attending to him?’

Akashi seems to float towards you like an eerie puppet on a string, her head crooked and her teeth white.

‘A – Akashi?’

She pats you on the head. You feel sweat mingle with the blood on your brow.

‘No, no, no, it’s Attending Medic.’

Nagato-san, did you encourage this sort of behavior with your pet?’ She raises her attentions to Nagato. ‘It’s a no-no, you know, not following the Attending Medic’s word.’

Akashi turns to you. Still. Smiling.

And that's it for this thread. I'll be posting the next one up when the VI hits sage. Or when this one reaches Pages 7+. Till then, again, I'd like some feedback and thanks for following this quest even if some of the decisions haven't hit home.

It's because it seems that Nachi likes the Commander being able to fight a superior officer, and now she has confirmation.

>Nachi looks strange. Her lips seemed to be quivering and a certain cloud had come over her eyes. I haven't seen / read any other shipgirls than your threads here but I like the story you're telling. Sometimes I think you give too many OOC hints like this one>>186064
but it might be necessary for ppl like me who don't know the characters too well. OTOH the Commander pretty much only knows what's been in the files anyway...

It was silly of us not to seek treatment.
>>
>>188579
I honestly up until a few posts ago felt like the choices weren't explained anywhere near enough and the MC was pretty much a hopeless retard who always managed to fuck things up.

The last couple posts have painted him a bit more tolerable, and your posting and options were much improved in my opinion. I liked the setting you were making, but now I'm starting to like the MC as well.

Thanks for the work, looking forward to next thread.

Wait 'till we get to the Germany/USA Chapters.
>>

How far ahead is that gonna be? Is there gonna be an Arpeggio-esque 'sneak past the Abyssals' chapter before then?

If the info's too spoilery, you don't gotta answer.
