"You are >>(you), and (you) have died.

It's terribly unfortunate that this has come to pass, but rest assured that although your life was relatively short, you have left a mark on the minds of those who loved you, of which there were more than you may think.

You sit there in this throne of the newly deceased, facing myself, the goddess Olivia. I care not for the usual pleasantries that come along with your culture, so I will pose to you now a choice: Enter another world as you are, or enter your world born anew.

Should you choose correctly, I offer you one blessing of your request that you may bring with you.

This blessing is not unlimited.

Should your request be outlandish, I will ignore it.

Should your request be worthless, you will have one chance before I send you to change it.

Begin."

Her face changes quickly as you show her a picture on your phone.
As you're explaining that you'd like it for good luck, she asks herself how you still have a phone, and network access.
"Hmm, a luck charm then? I can do that. I've never seen one that looked like that though, where did you say you were from, oh you know what it doesn't matter. Point is, I can get you one, and you'll be incredibly lucky. I do urge you to consider all possible facets though, you have a chance to change your mind."

After a long period of self-deliberation, you stand. Olivia looks at you.
"Made up your mind?" You nod. "What'll it be then, the luck charm?"
You shake your head and begin explaining your pandora's box idea.
"Oh that's... Pretty creative actually. Yeah, I can order you one of those easily enough." She snaps her fingers and a large circle appears in front of her. Glowing green runes are strewn across its surface that she appears to be using to type. You lean around and try to get a look at the other side of the circle, but she shoots you a look and you back off.
She snaps her fingers again, and the circle disappears. Within seconds, another circle appears above, and drops an ornately carved box into her hand. She gestures towards you with it, prompting you to carefully take hold of the box.
"Try it out," she says.
You nod at her, your brows piqued in excitement. You slowly open the box, wondering if you should peek inside first. Eventually, excitement grabs hold of you, and like ripping off a non-brand-loyal bandage, you throw open the lid.

At that instant, a paper snake and confetti explode in your face.

After a few very long seconds of silence, Olivia starts uncontrollably laughing. You close the box, visibly annoyed.
She starts talking between bouts of laughter, "Hey, listen," she wipes at her eyes, "I'm sorry I snapped at you earlier." You can tell she's trying to be sincere behind the raucousness.
"By the way, that paper snake belongs to the goddess next door, Jestine, I guess your box grabs from the surrounding areas."
She exhales to finish her laughter, "Alright, I think it's time I sent you down. It's been fun." She snaps her fingers, and a circle appears beneath your feet. The circle grows to about ten feet in diameter, before starting to spin, and you feel your weight being lifted by some force.
A few inches off the ground, you open the box again out of curiosity, and immediately your face contorts into a devious smile.
Olivia speaks up "Hey, best of luck down there," as you begin pulling something out of the box, held tightly in your fist. She looks at you with mild confusion as you begin opening your palm, and revealing some white panties with orange frills.
Her face immediately changes to surprise, then to embarrassment, then to anger. "You... h-hey! G-give those back!"
She rushes toward you, arming a fist, and you begin laughing hysterically.
She steps inside the circle and jumps at you, trying to retrieve her panties. She snatches them out of your hands and punches your arm, as you complain that it wasn't your fault.
"Whatever, Just go, I'm gonna go wash thes--" She interrupts her self, "oh shit."
You eye her inquisitively.
"I uh... oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!" She starts punching your arm repeatedly. "God damnit!"
You don't have time to ask what's happening before you feel yourself falling into a vortex of magic, accompanied by a drawn out "Fuck!" from Olivia.
>>
>>200699
An instant later, you stand in an unfamiliar town, surrounded by people going about their daily lives, in rustic clothing and some in armor, many carrying swords, daggers, or small wands and staffs.
Olivia stands next to you, relentlessly banging her head against a wall.
She stops, and violently turns to you.
"You mother fucker!
I don't know where you get off, pulling me down here like this! I don't know how you're gonna do it, but you're getting me out of here with your little fucking magic box!
And don't expect any help from me, either, this is your fault you dumb, arrogant, son of a cunt!"
The people of the town stare at the both of you wide eyed.
You whisper to Olivia,
>"Look, I'm sorry OK? But please, calm down."
"Calm down‽" She slaps you.
>"Ow!"
She turns to the crowd of onlookers and puts a sheepish look on her face, "Sorry everyone, relationship troubles," which she punctuates with a nervous laugh.
She leans back in to you and whispers, "Let's just go."

>What do you do?

Ask Olivia about new world
>>
>>200944
You inquire as to the nature of the world you stand in.
"Why don't you ask your magic box for a pamphlet?"
>"I already said I was sorry, and plus it's not like I control the box. The box gets what the box wants. Also, you're the one who stepped into the circle; You could've asked me to throw them to you and I would've."
As you were speaking, a soft grumble from Olivia built up until it finally erupted as a shout, "Aargh, will you just shut up and let me explain the world? This world is under the tyrannical siege of the Devil King, and right now you're in the town called Axel. This is the furthest city from the Devil King's castle, and as such is the most peaceful. Recently, some dimwitted goddess named Aqua started sending people who'd died in your world into this one to try and defeat the Devil King. She got dragged down here by some NEET, and she insists that she and that weak kid are gonna beat the Devil King. I had originally planned to send down some people to beat the Devil King and his army before she got herself killed, but I guess that plan has changed slightly-- thanks for that by the way, so here we are, just as fucked as everyone else."

>"But how does that change your original plan?"

"Well, I'm not gonna fight him."

>"But--"

"No ifs ands or buts. I'm not gonna fight him. I'm gonna find some nice place, and sit in a bath till you kill the big DK, or die, or both."

You sigh.
>"Okay. Where are we walking, by the way?"

"Said 'nice place' is this way. I don't know why you're following me, the adventurer's guild is across town."

You manage to get 2 more objects out of it: A hat of decent quality and a small knife.
After that, it doesn't seem to offer anything else. You recount five uses, perhaps that is a temporary limit placed on the powers of the box.

"Alright, this is the place. You go find the adventurers' guild and start doing whatever. I'm going to have a relaxing bath."

You roll your eyes and wave to Olivia, as she points you in the direction of the guild building.

After about two minutes, you can see the guild, and you hear a familiar noise.

An elongated "Fuck!"

You stop walking and turn around. Fairly quickly, you see Olivia catching up to you, clearly upset. As you're about to ask what happened, she says "Shut up, just keep walking."
You hear her mumbling something along the lines of "god damn bullshit, can't use any magic, no money, who the hell asks a goddess to pay for anything anyway?"

You both enter the adventurer's guild to see a fairly non crowded rest area, where people are gathered in small groups, eating, drinking, and laughing.
On the other side, you see a few counters manned by well dressed employees, brought together by a centerpiece statue of a warrior.
You and Olivia take a seat at a table, and discuss.

"And again, my plans crumble before me."

>"At least this time you don't have a way to blame it on me."

"Don't test me. Anyway, You should go ahead and get a job."

"Of course! Will you be paying both the registration fees?"

>"That, uh... Depends. How much is it?"

"We've recently reduced it to fifteen eris, in lieu of a very successful cabbage harvest this year!"

>"In that case no! But, I can pay mine and work for hers. Here, this is all we had left after our trip."

"Very well. Please place your hand over this, and hold still for a moment." The attendant pulls up a gilded blue orb with some mechanical device attached to the underside, and places it on the counter. You place your hand above it, and it inscribes your name and some numbers onto a card.

"Here you are, >>(you), welcome to the guild! Now, at any time, you can accept a job posting on that board over there."

You ask Olivia about classes.

"Your class is less a restriction on your abilities, but more a reflection of your prowess with certain kinds of abilities. You'll never be required to be a certain class to learn a skill with the exception of class skills, but you may be required to have learned certain skills or mastered a certain number of skills in an area to have the opportunity to claim a class. Currently, you qualify for basic wizard, rogue, and thief classes based on your stats."

>"So what about skills?"

"Skills require you to knowingly observe a skills' performance, and to be taught it by someone else who knows it. After that, the skill will appear on your card as an available skill, and it will also show you the number of skill points it will require to finish learning it. You can spend the skill points you acquire when you level up, and once you do that, You're free to use the skill. Class skills are specific to an individual class and do not have to be learned. However, they cannot be used if you are not the class which they are specific to."

>"How about this, I'm gonna set my class to the most advanced wizard I qualify for, which looks like... 'spellcaster.' I get the class skill 'basic spark,' and I'm sure we can find some wizard who can teach some more powerful skills. Then, we can start confidently going on low level quests, and earning some money."

"How will you pay them?"

>"We could trade that knife, or do menial labor. I don't know really, anything. We could see if the box is working again, and hope it pays out a few eris."

"Yeah, that sounds good to me."

As you both start to stand up, you're approached by an elderly couple clad in robes.

The elderly man speaks, "Please forgive our intrusion, we didn't mean to eavesdrop, but are you two that couple that was fighting in the square earlier?"

Olivia slaps on the innocent sheepish face again, and gives you a look to do the same.
"O-oh, yeah. Sorry about that, it was a long journey."

"Oh no, far be it from us to judge. Lovers will have their quarrels."
You hear a faint gasp from the attendant you spoke to earlier as she happened to be passing by, and she scurries off to a group that looks far more experienced than you.
This time the elderly woman chimes in, "Actually, we overheard you saying that you were in need of a skills teacher. I am an arch priest, and my husband an arch wizard. We'd be happy to offer you each a lesson, free of charge."

>That's so gracious, I don't know if we can accept"
Olivia elbows you
>"We accept!"
The old couple laughs.

>"I really do wish we could, but unfortunately we didn't have enough money to get us both a guild card."

"That's no problem. What was it last year, dear, two hundred? That's hardly anything at all!"

>"Well... This year it's actually... fifteen." Olivia looks down at the floor. You wonder whether she's acting, or legitimately saddened by her financial state of affairs.

"Fifteen? Well why are you so shy about it, son? Anyone here would've given you that."

"Teddy bear, it's an issue of pride. Just look at them, don't they remind you of someone?" said the woman.
"Point taken. Here, how about this. Young lady, what's your name?"

She looks up, her face is quite red from embarrassment. Or fake embarrassment. Either way it's red. "Olivia" she says.

"Olivia. I'll give you the money to pay for the registration, right here, discreetly, so you can go up and pay for that card without losing a drop of pride."
Her face lights up, and for the first time since you've met her, she looks genuinely happy without it being at your expense. You almost think you see a tear.

She nods, stands, extends her hand in firm handshake position, and in a deft motion, you see a small glint of copper and brass as the old man transfers some coins to her. They shake hands and she runs off to the counter.

"Aren't they adorable, teddy bear?"
"They really are our spitting image. Young man, never let her go."

You join in with a nervous smile, and you suddenly feel quite bad for deceiving these two. (1/2)

You hear the attendant from across the room as she removes Olivia's card from the machine.
"Wow! Your stats are so high!"
Figures, she's a goddess.
Olivia jogs happily back to the table, and proudly presents her card to you and the couple.
The two are very surprised at her high stats. You aren't. In fact, this is all feeling a little familiar and uninspired to you.
She looks at the elderly couple, reinvigorated, and says "So, what about that lesson?"

--

Outside, you can hear the bustle of wagon wheels and horse hooves, the sounds of freshly washed clothing being beaten on fences and hung to dry, children playing, people shouting, but your attention is focused on the arch wizard. He readies a spell. In a flash, a small fireball appears in his hand, and he throws it to the ground. Some stray hay strands catch fire, but the rest of the fireball disappears with a whoosh.
"That was a low level spell, Beginner Fireball. Watch my hands as I demonstrate again. I first begin by setting the intention to cast it, then I ready a stance. Then, as the mana builds in my body, I snap my fingers and think of fire. In my hand, this ball appears, and I can throw it wherever I please."
He closes his palm, and the ball emits a small puff of smoke as it is extinguished.
"Mimic the motions"
He proceeds with the spell again, and you follow him closely. When it's done, you feel a warmth from your guild card. Taking it out, you see "Beginner Fireball" in your available skills list.
"I will also teach you both a ward spell that will protect you from physical attacks. Think of casting it as raising a shield. In fact, the motion emulates that very act."
He repeats the process he used to teach you the fireball spell, and you see "Beginner P. Ward" in your available skills list.

The old woman teaches you both a lesser heal using a similar method.

You both thank the couple a great many times, and retire back to the guild hall.

It's roughly noon, when early morning quest groups come back from their journeys, so it's a bit more crowded than it was earlier. Looks like you'll have to share a table with another group.
You sit down at the edge of a table, next to a group of four: a burly man carrying an axe and thick hide armor, two twin girl rangers, and a very short and stout bespectacled man in suit pants and a vest.

Olivia is staring at her card, deliberating the advantages and disadvantages of certain skills.

"Which skills are you gonna take?"

>"I think for now I'll only take Beginner Fireball. It's important to have something offensive, but I think I should wait until I have more options before I pick a utility. How about you?"

"I'll take Lesser Heal. With my natural 20 in dexterity, I think it's smart to go with Ranger or Rogue, but we don't have a bow, and I doubt that little knife is sufficient for killing any large creatures. So, until we can get those, support may be the only thing I can do.

>"Hmm. What are the class skills?"

"Let's see..." She temporarily assigns her class to Rogue, "Rogue's is called Beginner Shadowstep, 'Your movements are fairly muffled, and you are harder to see than others in the shadows.' You touch the posting, and feel a warmth from your guild card. On the back of the card, it shows a map of the area, and a glowing point near the edge of Axel.

You call out to Olivia,
>"We got one! You ready?"

"Sure!"

You both jog out of the hall, and start running toward the dot on your map.

'Where are we headed?"

>"Near the edge of town, here"
you show her the map and point,

"What is it?"

>"Hard to talk, tell you when we get there."

--

"...A cat in a tree?"

>"Yeah, so what?"

"You made it sound so urgent."

>"It is urgent!"

The old woman who posted the job says "Oh, no, please take your time. Snuggles loves being up there, he just has trouble getting down sometimes."

"It's okay ma'am, we'll help you with your cat right away, it's just my partner made it seem like some epic quest." She smiles, and you nervously laugh.

>"Anyway, is this the tree? I don't see him up there."

"No, he's in that tree over there." She points to the tallest pine in the area.

--
Olivia begins climbing the tree, her dexterity stat nearly double that of yours. After a few seconds, she's already up within the canopy. After about a minute you hear a scream from up inside the tree followed by some intense rustling.

>"Is everything alright up there?"

"N-n-no! Can you c-come up here?"

>"Yeah I'll be right up!"
After some difficulty, you manage to reach the point where traversing branches becomes easier. When you're about halfway up the tree, you spot Olivia's vibrant pants. You come up to her level facing her.
>"Hey, what's going on?"

"T-there's a... s..."

>"S..."

"S-s... s-spider!"

As she says it, something knocks your hat off. You jump, and dash to the branch Olivia's on. Turning to face where you were, you see a spider, roughly the size of a small dog, clinging by its legs to the underside of the branch that was above you.

Thank fuck anon.
You literally do everything in gods power to NOT shoot at the spider.
You and Olivia both notice, before you even start preparing Basic Spark, a small shimmer beneath the spider's head.

"It's got a g-g-gun!"
She evidently does not like spiders.

>"No, wait... I think that's a collar!"

You move a little closer to get a better look. You make a motion that's a little too sudden, and it hisses at you.
This was no hissing spider hiss, though. It sounded like a cat. Then, you hear it meow.

>"Snuggles? Uh... Come here Snuggles, it's okay," You slowly put out your hand, and the spider inches toward you. Once it gets close enough, you can see the collar clearly, and indeed, it reads Snuggles.

>"Hey, buddy," You reach out to the spider's head. Olivia shouts at you not to touch it, but you give her a "shush" motion with your hand. When you touch it, you're surprised to find that instead of hard black carapace, you feel soft fur, and Snuggles starts purring. You even notice paws at the end of its eight legs.

You pick up Snuggles in your arm, and Olivia just stares at you in disbelief, or shock, or both.

>"Come on, this little guy's worth 22,000 eris."
Snuggles pushes his head into your chest as you and Olivia begin climbing down.
--
"Oh thank you so much, you're both dears!" says the old woman, "Oh, come here wittle snuggie wuggie."
You start to hand over Snuggles, but he jumps down, and rubs against your leg, before starting towards Olivia. She presumes the harsh battle stance of being on one leg and covering her face.

"I think he likes you! Anyway, how much do I owe you two?"

>"You put 22,000 on the posting, ma'am."

"Oh dear, did I? I must have put an extra zero. I'm terribly sorry, but I just don't have that kind of money right now."

>"That's okay ma'am, 2,200 is perfectly fine, we understand."
You look around the base of the tree for your decent hat, but it doesn't appear to be around. Maybe a gust of wind took it, or it fell in the waterway nearby.

The woman gives you the 2,200, and you start back towards the guild hall.
On the way, Olivia says "We never speak of this," and you shrug.

Back at the hall, you go to the counter to turn in the quest.
"Congratulations on your first successful quest! Please place your hand on this machine."
She takes out a hand-sized disc on an angled platform, and you set your hand on it.
"This collects information regarding your quests for our records that you can access at any time."
The machine flashes.
"Thank you! In a few minutes, your guild card should update with your current information, and don't worry, the machine automatically collected the eight percent tax on your quest earnings, so no need to calculate."
She takes the machine back, and returns to the counter.
"Oh, I forgot to mention earlier, we also serve as a postal service. If you ever have any mail you'd like to send, just come here. We'll also send a notice to your guild card if you receive anything. And, by the way, I'm sorry I was so flustered earlier, but you and your sister are entitled to do whatever you like, it's not my place to judge."

At the table, you and Olivia discuss what to do.

>"We could probably level up from one more quest, are you up for another?"

"So long as there's no danger of any fucking spiders," she says quietly.

(>>206364 oh, auto update fuckin works now)

You also attempt a try at the box, no luck.
It's currently 3:00 pm.

"I would wait till tomorrow on the box. It's usually a daily thing with these types."

>"Hm, sounds good. How about that watch the crops one?"

"Sounds good."

>"Don't make fun of me."
In reply, she sticks out her tongue.

You go up to the job board and check if the crop job is still available, and it is.
You touch it, and you feel a similar warmth from your guild card. You motion to Olivia and head out the door.

This time, the map is taking you to an area north of the city, by the time you get there, about half an hour has passed. The point on the map lines up with a small farmstead just ahead of you, so you go up and knock on the door.

A few minutes pass in total silence before a huge bearded man shows up at the door.
"Can I help you?"
>"Yeah, we're here to watch your crops, from the posting at the guild hall."
"Alright, come this way."
He takes you behind his house to a field of corn.
"This is it. My daughter should be back with the scarecrow by eight. You don't have to stay that long, but I will pay you by the hour. Also, feel free to have a couple ears, but no more'dn a couple. My crops are big, but I am payin' you to keep the crows from doin' just that." He turns and starts walking back around, but stops midway, "Oh, and none of that fire magic! You and Olivia find a small clearing in the field, somewhere where the fertilizer didn't set properly, and engage in idle chatter.

>"So the attendant at the guild hall thinks we're incestuous."

She practically chokes on the air as she begins coughing relentlessly, "She what? What did you tell her?"

>"You know how when we first got here, you said we were having relationship troubles, then at the guild hall when I got my card, I said we were siblings,"

"Why?"

>"It was the first thing that came to my head. Well, anyway, when the old couple were talking to us, that attendant happened to be walking by and heard them say we were having a lover's quarrel."

"This... You..."

>"Yeah, but apparently she's cool with it now though."

She's about to no doubt call you an idiot before she is interrupted by a noise.

You stand to attention,
>"What was that, more crows?"

Her face slightly reddened, she continues in calling you an idiot. "No, you dumbass. Neither of us have eaten all day. That was me."

You start laughing, and she joins you.
>"The farmer said we could have a couple ears, want me to grab you one?"

"Sure."

This casual back and forth continues uninterrupted until around eight, when the farmer calls.
"Hey, you two, m'daughter should be back pretty soon, come out here, I'll introduce you!"

The two of you get up and meet the farmer in front of his stead.
"The name's Rory by the way."

>"Nice to meet you."
"It's a pleasure, Rory."

"Thanks for stayin' out there s'long. It really shows the difference between those who care'n those who don't."

>"Don't mention it."

"I know y'all were only out there fer four 'n'a half, but I'll pay you the full 5 hours. Fifteen hundred an hour, right?"

"Thank you. Yes."

"That comes out to se'ndy five hundred, then."

You wait with Rory for a good while, no sign of his daughter.
After about half an hour, he speaks up, "Listen, I don't suppose I could trouble you to go down the road, see what's holdin'er up? She oughta be here by now'n I'm gettin' worried."

You both nod, and jog down the road.
Ten minutes in, you spot a carriage being held up by two men in black, the driver a young woman, and you can just make out the head of a scarecrow from the back. You duck into a bush.

Olivia casts shadowstep and gets in position. Once she's hidden, she comes out of shadowstep to save mana, and gives you a thumbs up.

>"Hey!"

The two figures get into a stance and brandish their weapons.

>"What's goin' on?"

"Business!"

>"Oh yeah, that scarecrow she's bringing back to her dad is definitely up for sale!"

The second figure shouts, "Speaking of business, why don't you mind your own?"

>"You see, the neat thing is, protecting people from robbery IS my business, and I'm sure you can see what this looks like."

Both figures laugh,
"Oh, Gribb, I think we've got a vigilante on our hands! Well guess what, she don't need savin'"
"You may want to reconsider your angle" said the figure named Gribb.

>"You're absolutely right! Here, I'll change my angle right now."
You begin walking forward, and you start building mana in your right hand. Olivia casts shadowstep, sensing the danger

"One more step and you won't walk another day in your life!"

>"Very original," you mutter, "Now!"

At that instant, you snap your fingers, and brandish a fireball, ready to throw. Olivia appears behind Gribb, holding the knife to his throat, and the farmers daughter pulls out a bow and knocks an arrow in one swift motion, aimed at the figure closest to you.

>"How's this for an angle?"

The unnamed figure stands still, realizing his position, and promptly runs away.

"No Fob, god damnit, don't leave me with this psycho!"

Olivia releases her hold on Gribb, and he runs off, following Fob.

The farmer's daughter, however, does not let up so easy. She fires an arrow, and you hear a voice that sounds like Fob cry out in pain.
She turns to you and her facial expression changes entirely, to that of a bubbly innocent girl, "Hop in!"

The two of you sit in the back of the wagon on your way back to the farmstead, and the farmers daughter introduces herself.
"I'm Annie. I'm guessin' you've already met my dad?"

"...Yeah" says Olivia.

"Listen, thanks muchly for savin' me back there. I didn't know what I was gonna do. Oh, hold on, we're about to hit a bump!"
The wagon bounces and rattles twice accompanied by screams of pain from the underside. Looking behind the wagon, you see Fob lying face down with an arrow lodged in his thigh, and a crease along this same leg's shin where the wagon must've just ran over him twice. He's screaming into the dirt, and Gribb is holding him, rocking back and forth while crying.
You and Olivia exchange worried glances, and you gesture toward them with your head, mouthing the word "Heal?"
She casts it, and Fob's screaming dies down a bit. Gribb must be able to tell something's changed, as he looks up to you and back at Fob repeatedly.
Olivia tosses her head in the direction of the woods, in an effort to tell Gribb to get Fob somewhere safe.

The rest of the trip goes uneventfully, and when you reach Rory's farmstead, Annie jumps out and hugs her father. "Daddy!"
"Oh, Annie, thank the goddesses, you're okay! What happened?"
"Daddy, there were bandits, tried to rob me blind, but these two saved me just in time!"

Rory begins crying and stroking the back of his daughter's head. She's clearly the most important thing in his life.

He looks at you, tears in his eyes, "I'm payin' you double, and there ain't a damn thing you can say to change my mind. Thank you so much for bringin' her home safely!"

You're both incredibly uncomfortable. You say your dues, accept your pay of 15,000, and stay no longer than you have to.

"Absolutely. If it were not such that I could not run an establishment under such conditions I would be inclined to assure you that a room would cost not but a single eris. However this world is cruel, and I fear I must charge you a fee of six hundred per night. That is of course, I assume you to be a couple, and would be sharing a single bed. If I am wrong in this assumption and you seek to occupy a larger room, you will be charged eight hundred, so I do inquire after your sleeping arrangements if it is not too rude."

>"Single bed is fine."
"Hm?" Olivia's eyes pierce into your soul, and her nostrils appear the size of clock faces. She turns her head to the innkeep, "Mm hmm!"

"Very well, then I would impose as to collect my fees for this night as I hand you the key, but feel no obligation to pay fees for additional nights at any other time than that which is at your leisure."

He hands you the key, and you place six hundred on the counter.

"Should you require any managerial assistance or services, simply ask any who happen to be manning this counter for "E. B."

You nod and thank him, and head to your room.
As soon as the door closes, you are greeted by an... inquisitive Olivia.

"Single bed is fine, hmm?"

>"Museum?"

"Yeah, that dwarf said I looked like me," she says, pointing to herself, then to the sky, "You know, goddess?" You nod. "But he said my hair was the wrong color. 'S bullshit."

This propels you into a fit of laughter,
>"Whaddaya fuckin' know, the goddess Olivia can't even cosplay her self right!"

"Shut up!" She says, and she punches your arm.

>"Anyway, do we have a bathroom?"
You take a quick look around, and spot a door near the northwest corner of the room. Opening it up, you find a familiar scene. On your left, you see a toilet, on the right there's a bathtub/shower combination. In the center, a sink and mirror cabinet.
Checking the cabinet, you see a bottled labeled "Mouth Cleaners," and under the sink you find several towels.

>"Are you a morning or evening shower person?" You call out.
"Morning!" She calls back.

You guess that means you're up then.

The shower is operated via pump handle, but you don't see any way to adjust temperature. There is a small disc shaped extrusion from the shower wall for seemingly no reason, but other than that all you find is the shelf for soap. Pre-supplied with some of course.
A moment later, you stand before the mysterious shower naked, prepared for the challenge it will no doubt offer.
You grip the pump handle, preparing yourself for the potential physical shock of icy waters.
Slowly, you lift it. It locks at about sixty degrees.
You summon the will, and slam it down, and water sprays from the showerhead.
Ice cold, just as you expected.
Immediately, you make a mad dash for the soap, scrubbing every which way as fast as possible.
You get about halfway down in lather before the pressure falls, and in all honesty, it's a relief.
You finish soaping up, and when you're ready for a rinse, you summon your iron will yet again, pumping the icy water onto your body.
You exit the shower and dry off, clean as Robert Falcon Scott's whistle.
That joke was more clever than it had any right to be, you think to yourself.
You take another look at the bottle of mouth cleaners. It's full of roughly textured balls, about the size of marbles, ranging in pastel colors from red to violet. You take a red one and cautiously place it on your tongue. It fizzles for a few seconds before coming to life, buzzing about the inside of your mouth, and scrubbing your teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue, before finally landing back down and dissolving with a pleasant raspberry flavor.
Neat. You put on your boxers, and exit the bathroom. You notice immediately that hanging on the wall by the window are Olivia's orange pants, and chest wrap. You start to climb into the bed already occupied by Olivia.
"You face the wall, or you no longer have a face, got it?"
>"Got it."
"You start right now."
>"Geez fine."

>>208045

You just enjoy where you are, not wanting to disturb her sleep, and you quickly fall asleep yourself.

You're awakened by the sound of a squeaky pumping and water flowing, accompanied by whistling.

It's roughly 8:00 am judging by the level of light outside. You can hear some bustling and clanking coming from the tavern downstairs.
Actually, it's exactly 8:00 am, judging by the church bells.

You lie awake for a few minutes taking in the fact that you've now lived and slept in a world you weren't meant to be in.

You lie awake for another couple minutes thinking about how badly the sound of water makes you have to pee, as you actually haven't gone since you got here. Another minute passes before finally the bladderial urge commands you to at least try for the bathroom. Standing and making your way to the bathroom door, you knock.

"Yeah?"

>"Can I come in?"

"No!"

>"I have to pee!"

"Hold it!"

>"I've been holding it since we got here!"

"That was like ten o'clock last night, grow a pair!"

>"No, I mean this world!"

"..."
"Fine. But, if you even glance at the curtain I'll suffocate you with it."

>"Whatever," you say as you open the door. You notice her panties on the counter by the sink, the same white and orange pair you pulled out of the box prior.
Which reminds you, you should check the box today.
You begin to relieve yourself, surrounded by the steamy air.
You then stop.
>"Wait, steam? How did you get the water hot?"

"You put mana in the circle thing, it heats an element somewhere. Just shut up and pee, I can't shower right if you're in here."

>"I had to take mine cold as the arctic..."

"You didn't have to do anything, except put your hand on the fuckin' circle. Now pee, or get out!"

You finish your honor bound duty and leave the bathroom, closing the door behind you. You put on your normal clothes, and sit on the bed for a few minutes.
Olivia finishes her shower soon thereafter, and walks out wrapped in a towel.
"I'd appreciate if you turned around for this part."

You turn to the wall yet again.

"Library."

>"Cool. Where's that?"

"I don't know."

You peek over your shoulder. She's got her wrap almost done up, and the towel still around her waist.
>"Well, we've got about 4 hours till then, we might be able to get away with a short quest before heading over there."

"I was thinking we could go shopping."

>"For what?"

"Since I've sort of unofficially adopted the part of Rogue, I was thinking about looking for some decent weapons and equipment. Maybe get you a stick."

>"Staff."

"Same difference. Hey, can you come tie this?" She indicates two loose ends with her hands.
>"Sure. Bow?"

"Yeah."

>"How tight?"

"As tight as you can make it with 6 strength."

>"Shove it."
You tie her wrap, and then walk back to the bed. Attempting another peek yields you a short look at her curvaceous pantied backside as she's pulling up her pants.

"Okay, I'm ready."

>>208821

The two of you head downstairs and grab a quick bite of nondescript breakfast food for 300 eris.
Afterward, you walk around until you find the shopping district.

You and Olivia split up to look at equipment that would benefit your respective classes, you for sticks, and her for bows, daggers, armors, etc. You split the money you have evenly between you.

Wandering the shopping district leads you to a somewhat small armory called "Gus's." Upon entering, you're greeted by the smell of armor polish and the sound of hammer against anvil. A man with braids in his beard and dreadlocks comes out from the back wearing a forging apron and thick leather gloves.
"Can I help you?"

>"Yeah, do you carry magic items."

"Yes sir we do, all four, wands, scrolls, staves, and vessels."

>"And uh... Can you fill me in on what those all do?"

"Wands will channel your mana directly through their length, making any spell you cast with it more accurate. As a trade off, it moves the spell farther from your soul, making it less powerful.
Staves have the opposite effect, as they beat with your heart and become an extension of your soul, making the spells more powerful, but less accurate. Scrolls just teach you spells, and vessels will hold more mana. Vessels do require that you sacrifice something close to your heart, things such as an old stuffed animal, or a locket from your lover, in order to be used, though."

>What do you look at?

--

Olivia, across the district is having a similar experience. She found a shop dedicated to Rogues and Rangers, called Rogues and Rangers. Crossbows, longbows, compound bows, daggers, shortswords, scimitars, stealth gear, climbing equipment, etc.

Fireheart (living wood hilt): +2 effects on healing spells, +2 accuracy on fire spells, +3 mana cost to all spells, 6500e

There are no staves within your price range.

There's a single vessel you can find, under the brand "Northweyr Academy"

Student vessel - 30 mana. 2000e

Compound bows

Watchful Eye: 1d8 damage close-mid range, 1d4 long range. Comes with a detachable variable zoom eyepiece. 7000e

Vengeful Wrath: 1d10 damage close-mid range, 1d6 long range. Equipping it gives +2 stamina recovery per turn. 7200e

Daggers

None of the daggers here have any special effects or accessories. Pretty standard thoroughfare. All the daggers that do d4 damage cost 3000, the daggers that do d6 5000, and d8 7000.

Arrows cost 300 for a bundle of ten.

In the alley, the figure checks around multiple times, before lowering his hood. You recognize him as Gribb, from the unpleasant encounter last night.
After seeing the state he was in last night, knowing that it's him actually gives you a bit of relief, and you relax slightly.
Evidently, Olivia feels the same, as she puts the knife she was hiding away.

"Are you the one who healed my brother?" He asks you.

"That was me."

He lunges at Olivia and it's a surprise to both her and you, but it's no attack.
He's hugging her. And crying.

"Thank you!

"We're an underground political movement seeking open discourse. The way things are right now, speaking out against the institution of the Adventurer's Guild in any way can ruin a career, place unfair limitations on your use of magic and skills, and place you under surveillance without your knowledge.
We hope one day to go public in a march, but the guild is actively fighting even the most rudimentary expression of our beliefs, and has forced a great many of us into hiding. Annie's a part of our movement, and she was a friend, an ally, or sympathizer, but after seeing what she did to Fob... I just pray our leader isn't the same kind of person."

>>210311
"To be honest, I just wanted to have the chance to thank you for saving my brother's life, but I was afraid of approaching you openly. I didn't want to make the guild suspicious of you, and to be quite honest, after last night, I don't think you deserve to have Annie's attention drawn to you either."

>>210315
"Presumably it's to maintain the sanctity of their systems. Say what you want, the guild is responsible for creating an incredible system that improves security, provides everyone access to job opportunities, and has strengthened the economy more than any system of government in the last few centuries. We just seek to ask the question, 'where must the line be drawn between individual rights, and the practise of a successful and flourishing system of governance?' and to not be ostracized for doing so."
>>
>>210325
On one hand, my American blood tells me that sounds like something I could get behind, on the other hand, I probably shouldn't get involved yet. Well, I am glad things turned out all right for your brother, maybe we will see you later.
>>
>>210330
"I haven't heard of this land 'America,' but it sounds proud. Anyway, I thank you again, and urge you to always keep one eye trained on yourself, should you come to doubting the methods of the guild."
