/qst/ - Quests

It takes a few moments for you to parse Cassilda's request, but when you do, you're still confused.

“I'm sorry, what?”, you ask.

“I said... How about being in charge of the monster brigade?”.

“We have a monster brigade?”.

Cassilda pauses, tightening her lips for a moment, “Well, no, not really. Not officially. We have enough members to make one, though. Unofficially. We have centaurs, we have a minotaur, we have a harpy who's already in active service... If we get an arachne and you find...”, she makes a vague gesture with her hand, “... Something...”.

You're beginning to get the gist of it, but it's still concerning that this (presumably) distinguished military officer is offering you such an important position considering your credentials. Or rather, the lack thereof. “You do realize I have zero military experience, right?”.

“That's not necessary”, she smiles brightly, pulling her ankles closer as she sits cross-legged, her fluffy tails fanning out, “Think of yourself as a community manager”.

A cold shiver runs down your spine and to the tip of your tail, and despite the heat you immediately feel goosebumps on your skin. You can't quite understand why but these two words scare you more than they have any reason to, “That's an interesting... Offer”.

“It's not an offer”, she keeps smiling, “It's what my help will cost you. You want to save your arachne friend? I can take care of that, but you'll have to do something for me. Pay back the favour. This is how”.

Bryld gives you a dubious look, her facial expression is part tense and part contorted in bewilderment. She doesn't say anything, especially not in front of Cassilda, but she is clearly sniffing something strange in all this scenario. Not that you needed any help in that, but it's still good to know that she, too, feels that something is off.

“But why a monster brigade?”, you can't help but wonder.

“Well, strictly speaking, we are not... How to put it... Fully operational”, she explains, “The colonists came way too early, it's like someone was in a hurry to re-establish a colony without the due time it would take to secure the land first. As it stands, we don't have enough personnel at hand to both protect the population and complete our conquest, and we're still too busy organizing everyone to have time to spare to coordinate adventurers and whatnot”.

She gives you a good look and smiles, “But since you have a magnetic personality and care about those... Interesting fellows, why not take advantage of it? Besides, monsters have skills that we ordinary humans don't, I'm sure they will come in handy”. She lets a few moments pass, then hops down from the table and stares up at you, hands on her hips and a confident expression. And damn, she's pretty short despite her perky ears, “So, what do you say?”.

>”I agree”.
>”I can't do that”.
>”I'll find the arachne myself”.

You give Bryld a look, not for support but to give her a nonverbal spoiler of what your choice is going to be. "I agree", you then tell her, "Bring back my arachne and you'll have your brigade leader".

"Great!", she goes, clapping her hands.

"I'm just not... The kind of person that is used to take orders", you warn her, "And I have an exploration charter and a duty to the marquise".

"That's no problem", she pats you on the hip, "As soon as you'll have your first underlings you will begin to understand what is known amongst us officers as the joy of delegation".

"The what?", Bryld asks, making a very strange face.

"Having other people work for you", Cassilda cuts short with a smile, "You can multiply your achievements and efficiency while doing less work yourself".

"That just means other people are doing it in your stead", you reason.

"Someone has to, but don't go ahead thinking this is going to be easy", she tsks a few times, shaking her head, "I know your sort, you rough country folk all come here and say 'oh look at this woman she's sitting on her soft and lean bottom all day and accomplishing nothing, I bet she's all proud of having other people work for her', well you're wrong".

You never said that out loud, but you'd be a liar if you didn't at least think about it even just once. She does give the impression of being someone who lazes about all day without accomplishing much herself, although she hasn't claimed the accomplishments of others to herself... Yet. "Coordinating people requires effort. Making very different people from very different places with very different mindset work on one task and complete it is so hard I actually envy those that just have to push a plough or chop down trees. They only have to think for themselves, but I... And soon enough you, have to think for ten people at the same time. Sometimes more".

"You do make it sound daunting", you agree.

"Well she does have a point", Bryld mumbles, but you can barely hear her yourself, "When people can't coordinate properly they just step on each other's toes and all the work goes to waste". She sounds like she's talking from personal experience.

"Exactly", Cassilda agrees. Her fox ears aren't just for show, it would seem, "It's harder than you think, just because it's an intellectual job doesn't mean it's easy. Quite the contrary. Your personality will make it easier though, that's for sure".

“Well, thank you for your faith in me, I guess”, you're not really sure how to react, but she does seem to be honest when she praises your personality. Assuming she's not just being sarcastic. It's hard to tell with this kind of foxfaced individual.

"Ah, before you go", Cassilda interrupts you before you actually leave, "Come find me when you leave, there's something I'd like to ask of you since you're going to be exploring".

"Is this another request for the favour?", you wonder.

"Ha ha ha, no no", she chuckles, "It's just that I have received some interesting reports but we don't have the manpower to investigate. But don't worry, it's nothing grueling".

You wonder what it is going to be about, but it seems like she won't tell you anything of use today. You and Bryld then bid farewell and leave her company.

It doesn't take a tremendously high amount of time to gather your party before going forth, and you manage to finally all sit down around the same table in the common area, under the various pavilions that shield you from the sun, even though the intensity of its light is dwindling. Even Bryld got a tan after being in the Shadow Marches for so long, although considering how pale she was when she first arrived, she still looks kind of white compared to Tahenohan, who was already dark-skinned to begin with, and even to Carrera, who is just tanned but still managed to achieve a darker complexion.

As for you, your skin didn't change. Not that you noticed, at least. It was red before and it's still red, though it's probably of a slightly darker shade? Or maybe it's just an impression because the sun is, very slowly, going down.

"I procured everything we might need. Another length of ropes, some common antidotes, a salve for insect stings and a medicine for a flu I hope none of us will get", Carrera explains as she lays the mentioned items in front of the table, "And I resupplied what little I could for my standard kit".

"What do you mean?", Bryld asks, oddly curious.

"Well, as far as general goods go, we're quite well-supplied, but antyhing past that and medicines... Eh", Carrera just shrugs.

"What did the two of you do?", you then ask Julio and Tahenohan, who are still chatting with each other.

"Lifting!", they answer in unison, and begin flexing to show the results of their work. You do have to note that Julio actually has quite a bit of lean but powerful muscle to show off; not that Tahenohan doesn't, but it just doesn't show if she doesn't take that robe of hers off. Unfortunately, you know her well enough to know she's wearing nothing underneath, so you don't even dare suggest anything.

"Alas, it seems I am a latecomer", the mellifluous voice of Parvaneh heralds her slow arrival as several people make way for her to pass, even though she's relatively small for a centaur. A flicker of orange and green flames sprout from her ever-burning eyes as she tips her hat to your group, "Pleased to make your acquaintance, my fellows".

Finally, everyone's here.

"Tomorrow we're going North, even though I said we wouldn't", you announce.

The reactions to such bold statement are less drastic than you imagined they would be. Only Bryld looks really surprised and possibly quite scared, but the rest are taking it a lot better.

"I see", Parvaneh goes, chuckling, "You are one sly leader. I like it".

"As long as you don't expect us to single-handedly assault and annihilate the entire kobold presence, I don't see any problem", Carrera shrugs, "Just let's be clear from the get go: if I see any sign of danger, you do everything I say, no question asked. That way we all get out alive".

"Fine", you nod. You don't really have any reason to disagree with her considering you hired her exactly for that purpose: keeping everyone alive. You included.

"Yay! More battles!", Julio high fives Tahenohan.

"Yay! More skeletons!", Tahenohan high fives Julio.

You kind o wish they weren't that loud about it. Especially Tahenohan. Fortunately, most people don't seem to particularly mind you. Well, yes, they do, you get plenty of looks, more than you're used to because of your striking appearance, as you not only have that but you also collected quite an interesting posse, including a centaur and two half-elves.

Wow, that's like a full elf. It's scary when you think about it.

At that point, Bryld grabs you and tries to put up a strong smile even though she's quivering inside, "What makes you think we can handle going somewhere that dangerous?".

"Well, we're prepared for it", you explain, "We have fellow adventurers and-".

"Weren't you in enough danger already between the harpies and the alraune?", she grunts between her teeth, then sighs to try and calm herself down, "Lillith you already ran some risks when you were surrounded by friendly creatures, I don't think going into a nest of brutal, murderous and angry specimen is going to end up well for us. These people can fight but we can't".

It's not like she's being unreasonable, and you've been surrounded by harpies once. Well, twice, but the second time it was a controlled environment and you were teaching them theology. It didn't make it much better but at least the risk of being raped was lower. Then again, this time we're talking about the risk of being killed. Possibly quite brutally, too.

"It's okay", Julio goes, patting his chest with a smile, "We'll protect you".

"Even though you're going to be outnumbered?", Bryld reasons.

Carrera sighs, "She's right, you know?", she tells Julio, then gives you another look, her purple ears flipping once, "I don't know what made you think of going North but are you really, really sure? You are not prepared".

You sigh and scratch your head, there right next to the horns. It's where it itches most frequently, especially when you're nervous or annoyed. It might just be a coincidence that it's also where it makes you feel best. You kind of need it right now.

"There's someone North that I need to save", you explain.

"Cassilda promised to help with that already", Bryld notes, "And she's much better prepared and equipped to do that than we are".

"Yes but she doesn't have what I have", you point out. Parvaneh gives you an appraising look and then nods in understanding. She knows what you mean. She probably felt it too. "I can't be sure everything will be alright if I'm not there personally".

"Seems like a trust issue to me", Carrera comments, then shakes her head, "Look Lillith, I understand it might be difficult to trust someone like Cassilda, but she wouldn't be where she is if she couldn't be relied on".

"That's right!", Tahenohan goes, and she hasn't even met her. Not that you know, at least, "Besides, there's not just these people, there's also my skeletons to guard us!".

"Yeah isn't that awesome?", Julio agrees.

"Is...", Parvaneh blinks, staring intently at Tahenohan as the licks of flame in her eyes turn purple, "Is that half-elf a necro-".

"Don't say it out loud please", you immediately interrupt her, but then you nod to confirm it. You're in a big place that is in constant threat of attack by unknown enemies despite how relaxed everyone seems to be, you don't need to go about saying there's necromancers around. Especially since there have been attacks by undead armies, contrarily to the almost nothing that actually happened farther South.

Still, it's true that you do have more assets than you first considered. Both Tahenohan and Parvaneh are magic users, and two of them in one party is quite a bit of power in one place. You just hope it's for the best.

"Then it's decided, we're going North!", Tahenohan claims.

"Yay!", Julio goes, and Carrera just facepalms.

Bryld sighs and sits down, "I-I'm not even mad", she admits. She really doesn't look mad, which is kind of surprising all considered.

"Well then, what are our plans?", Carrera asks as soon as she recovers, looking up at you as if you're her only hope, “We have an objective, which is saving this... Friend of yours, and only you can do it. I don't know how but you'll explain on the way, I'm sure there's an interesting story behind it. But what about our journey? Will we be going straight? Stealthy? I'd rather avoid direct confrontations if we can help it”.

Bryld nods energically.

>”We're taking the straightest path possible”.

"Let's circle the kobold territory, and map it if we can", you give Bryld a glance and she pales considerably, almost negating the hard work her skin has put into tanning itself, "But we'll avoid fighting".

"That's a good idea, if they don't spot us, nobody will come after us", Carrera nods, then looks at Parvaneh, "Uhm...".

"I understand", the centaur nods with a smile, "The jungle isn't my best territory but I can navigate it unless it's tremendously thick. And fear not, I am fast and agile enough to lose any pursuer before it comes close".

"I was just about to say we'll probably have to stay a little further than normal because you're... Well", Carrera scratches her head, right below the ears, "Quite big, compared to us".

"Oh I am fully aware of that", Parvaneh notes, "But I am also confident in my speed. I can also easily incinerate whoever dares follow my trail. Believe me, should anyone decide to come for us, I will make them think twice about it".

"Ah, don't burn them too hard", Tahenohan points out, "If you incinerate too many bones I can't-".

"Regardless", you interrupt her, "What do we know about kobold territory? Do we have any useful information? Carrera?".

"We just know they're North", she shrugs, "I hear we got some reports from aerial scouting at night saying that, judging from the fires and the rising smoke spotted from above, there are multiple tribes and that they are covering only a part of the jungle, which extends much further North than we first imagined". She pauses to consider a few moments, "How do we know where this friend of yours is?".

"The area will be littered in cobwebs large enough to trap a horse", you explain, then give Parvaneh a look, "Be careful, okay?".

"I don't see myself being trapped in cobwebs as long as I live. I will make sure I will never know such embarrassment", flickers of red flame spark from her eyes as she smiles.

“Tahenohan”, you then give her a look, a stern, firm look that means you want her to answer without saying more than absolutely necessary, “Will your helpers be ready for tomorrow, if we set off at dawn?”.

“Yes”, she grins maniacally, quivering in excitement, “Oh I wish I could have procured better armour and weapons for them... Maybe we can loot some?”.

“Kobold craftsmanship is shoddy at best”, Carrera insipidly comments.

“Once we sell our loot we'll be able to buy them whatever we need”, Julio instead adds, greatly widening Tahenohan's already manic smile. You're surprised she isn't jumping around all over the place.

Bryld gives you a look, then shrugs, “Is that all?”.

You think it is, but then again, since you do have a bit of time before going to bed...

You kind of envy those adventuring blokes. They look amazingly confident in the face of imminent danger and are wholly unconcerned over the affair of skirting close to enemy territory, all because you asked them to save a friend of yours whom you never met and you're not even sure she's still alive.

But you have to try. You wish you could help too in case something goes wrong, go there like in those stories, where the peasant hero grabs a sword and turns the tide of battle. Unfortunately, you know this isn't a peasant hero story, and that you know which part of the sword you should grab and which you should use to stab, but you have no idea how anything works past that.

Besides, if you're close enough to hit someone, then so can a kobold, and you have no armour to shield you from harm, other than being unarmed and untrained.

But, if it came to magic...

"Say, Parvaneh", you take her aside for a moment as the others begin the odd and disorganized process of getting something to eat for dinner. Part of this relies on getting Pam to give you vegetables and polenta, which she gladly does, but with cow-like slowness and a tendency to gossip just as sluggishly, "May I ask you a favour?".

"You certainly main, my brave leader", she smiles at you with an orange flicker in her flame. You have no idea why she's so courteous with you, but she's quite open and honest about it, you don't think she's being ironic at all.

"The magic you use...", you begin, "I'm interested. I actually would like to earn a bit of it myself, just so I can manage to be of help if we're in need".

"Not being of help is better than getting in the way, especially in a fight", she notes with the kindness one would use to teach children, but her warm smile and the red licks of flame from her eyes speak otherwise, of a certain interest you could say. The bends backwards a little, showing very clearly just how elongated a centaur's upper limbs are compared to that of a normal human, and reaches her single saddle bag, rummaging briefly before she pulls out a stubby oak wand. It is covered in runic etcings you are unfamiliar with, of brass colour, and there is an opal embossed in a blackened socket at the tip fashioned from wood.

"Here", she hands it over to you, "This wand helped me greatly when I learned to master the Ether. I was not born with the spark, I had to learn by trial, and believe me when I say that learning by trial is the hardest way to practice magic. But if you're determined, talented and... Let's be honest, lucky enough, you might just find a way yourself".

You look at the wand, then look up at her, and she smiles, her licks of flame turning light blue, "It's up to you whether to gamble your life on it or not, and it's up to you to find it what it's for. It may take years or even decades, or you may never learn to use it... But at least, you can try".

>>
Wow.

You stare at the wand for a long time. You can't believe it's in your hands even if it clearly is. You can grasp it. It's lukewarm, the brass etching make your skin tickle if you brush your fingers against it, and you have no idea how they managed to warp the wood in such a way that it can act as the socket for an opal like you would expect stone or metal would. Besides, the opal alone would be worth... Well you have no idea how much but this whole wand might sell for a lot of money. A lot. You doubt most shopkeepers would even have enough on hand, you'd have to barter it with something.

Okay, you don't actually know how much it is worth, but considering it's likely a magic wand...

"Are you sure you want to gift something you have so much history with?", you ask Parvaneh, trying to not let your eyes pop out of your skull for the surprise. You can't say you expected this development, what with every wizard turning you down until now.

"It is indeed... Possibly the very reason I became who I am today", she agrees, giving you a kind smile and with her licks becoming a dark shade of green, "But you understand... You probably do understand, what the pain of being unique is, don't you?".

You pause. This isn't something new coming from a magic user, all considered. Except for Tahenohan but her elven ancestry likely plays a huge part in making what she is. "If this little could bring another magic user to this world, then this gift is worth much more than my nostalgic memories, and if it isn't, well, the attempt was well worth them".

You look down at the wand. It doesn't give you any strange, innate feeling. Once you get past its lukewarm feel and the slight tingling feeling if you rub your fingers on the etching, it's just a piece of wood. "Thank you", you heartfeltly say, "... But how do I use it?".

"Oh, you point at it something you want to burn and ignite it with your passion", she chuckles, tipping her hat, "At least... That is how it worked for me. Mind you, it took me a few years before I learned to do it without the wand, but from there? It was all downhill, it's like a new world opening up".

"Is that also when you got your...", and you point at your own eyes.

"My first Ether mutation? Yes", she smiles proudly, "This is a mark of power, and every magic user bears it proudly".

You wonder what Astreya would say if she saw this scene. You wonder what she would say if she found out you had a magic wand with you. She probably can sense it, magic users can sense each other after all, just like you can sense divine power in people and places.

“But if you really insist of being indebted with me”, Parvaneh continues, “I have a favour to ask in exchange... But I will tell you only after we'll make it back from our mission”.

I imagine most people had one before they started delving into magics. Not to mention her lower head might also act as a compass.

>lower head

Lillith has good friends to steer her right, such as Tahe! And a goddess to serve that will definitely keep her on the straight and narrow!
>>
"Thank you again Parvaneh, and good night. I swear I will put this to good use".

"Do not be pressured, my stalwart companion", she assures you, "It is the fate of magic to find its way to those who are worthy, and I have no intention of stopping this from happening".

With this strange statement, you bid goodnight, have a meal with the rest of your party, and predictably Carrera urges Julio to go to sleep early, for tomorrow you set off for an important and dangerous journey.

You do the same, with Tahenohan and Bryld. You manage to find an available tent in the outskirts. Apparently while your half-elf was around with Carrera's half-elf they met some interesting people who helped her find an empty tent for the three of you to use in a relatively tranquil place. When questioned further, Tahenohan simply answers with something like "Oh they were oily, muscled and praised the sun a lot".

The tent you find does not, however, have a sun with a face anywhere you can see, it seems like an ordinary tent set up so that newcomers or travellers that come without it can rest since there's still no inn in Maner. Or maybe it was left behind by someone who left in a hurry after the undead assault. Still, it was picked clean before that as you have nothing but your own clothes to sleep on.

Bryld seems to be a bit tense, but that's understandable. You are tense yourself, though the tension is somewhat alleviated by Tahenohan's radiant presence, "Hey, do you think Carrera and Julio are having wild interspecies sex right now?".

Bryld predictably turns beet red at Tahenohan's question, "Tahe!", she protests.

"Oh what? It's no secret", the half-elf shrugs. It was quite obvious, you have to admit, "Besides don't most people have sex before a dangerous trip? I hear soldiers do that all the time".

"Well I'm no soldier so I don't know", you admit.

"I-I heard it's because they don't know if they'll come back so might as well...", Bryld trails off, then recovers, "B-but! We're definitely going to come back, right? And so are they!".

"Yeah", Tahe agrees, her hands slipping along your hips and rising to push up and grope your breasts, "But they still might wanna fuck".

Bryld squeezes her eyes into slits as she stare at Tahenohan, who stares back at her while demonstrating how your chest fat can be pushed and pulled gently while being far from an uncomfortable experience for you. Well, aside from this happening in front of someone else, but then again it's Tahe and Bryld, it's not like they're strangers to your own bed.

“I bet Carrera's protesting because she doesn't want the neighbours to hear her”, Tahe implies, slipping her hands beneath your clothes, “But as soon as Julio promises to be quiet... I bet she fucks like a tiger”.

"She definitely does", you smile as you imagine the scene. It may be the combination of that and Tahenohan groping you with her expert touch and her lean little fingers exerting just enough pressure to get a reaction out of you, but you find yourself not wanting to stop her, and you don't know if it's despite Bryld watching or because she is, "I mean it's clear from the way she whaps him when he says something stupid that she wants to give herself a cool and in control air but she actually likes when he's like that. A lot".

"Haha, yes, she's a serious girl all right, but serious people usually turn wild in the sack", Tahenohan confirms.

"How do you- Oh, nevermind", Bryld sighs as she peeks outside. The tent is small enough for the three of you to fit without much room left to spare, but at least the opening points outwards, to the dark, featureless plains. It's almost eerie but almost kind of peaceful a sight, even though you're aware that there are several other tents around you, even though not tremendously close. You wouldn't bump into someone or something if you pushed against any of the tent's rounded sides. But it's not like you're alone, so you too would have to keep it as quiet as possible if Tahenohan got her groping plan going ahead, because you know she's this close to toying with your nipples and then help you out of these stupid clothes that keep getting in the way of your genitals.

"Do you think she's the kind that has steely control over herself and stays quiet, or rather forgets about it and makes lots of noise anyway?".

Tahe immediately stops groping you. You both stare at Bryld long enough to make her uncomfortable.

"W-what? I was just asking!", she protests, "What if you say it it's fine but if I say it you have to stare?".

"You lewd bunny!", you let out. You couldn't stop it, you just had to say it. No amount of iron will would have made you control that.

"Okay, now I'm wet", Tahenohan announces, surprised. At Bryld, of course, you suspect she was already when she started touching you.

Bryld sighs and crosses her arms, and considering the mood you're in you can't help but stare at her breasts when she does that, "You were both thinking the same thing anyways, I know it".

You glance behind you and meet Tahenohan's eyes, her hands are frozen in place under your clothes and over your breasts, stuck in the process of squeezing them but neither contracting nor relaxing. She's still quite shocked at Bryld's lewdness, and it's not easy to surprise the half-elf, but she also looks quite happy.

And, as it often happens, everyone's waiting for you to say something.

>"I think she has steely control".
>"She definitely makes lots of noise".
>"Want to go find out?".
>"Since we're all in the mood didn't we have a threesome to take care of?".

"I think she has steely control and won't make a noise", you confidently state, much to Tahe and Bryld's surprise.

"Really?", the lewd bunny asks.

"Remember? Even when Julio brought the issue up, before she whacked him heavy on the back of the head, he never said that she refused him... Only that she wanted him to be quiet", you point out, "This means she totally wants to be ploughed, but also to remain decent, and therefore knows that if she wants his dick she has to keep herself under control, and since she does want it...".

"... She's going through whatever it takes to get it. Wow", Bryld is exaggerating a little, you wanted to say something about determination, but you chalk her reaction up to her current horny mood.

"You really are quite a good judge of character", Tahenohan compliments you as the groping modestly resumes, with her fingers sinking in to gently toy with your mammary glands, "How do you do it?".

"Sometimes it's just so painfully obvious", and you exchange glances with Tahenohan, who stops groping you and just takes your shirt off, but carefully. She once got it stuck on your horns, which is understandable, you yourself have had a few problems learning to put on and take off shirts once you grew breasts that large and horns that big. But she's quite dexterous in that, too.

"Just like this", and you poke Bryld's nipples, making her wince back, though she doesn't have much room to escape, "Seems like we're all in the mood. And you know what that means".

"No", Bryld says.

Of course that was just her first reaction. It's understandable, she was a virgin until less than a week ago. She is gaining confidence quickly, but she still finds most flirting daunting... At first. That, and she has to play the part of the straight girl, with a no-nonsense attitude.

But you experienced that too, with your first time with her, and yet she was already prepared with contraceptives and whatnot. It's really no surprise that after that "No" she gave you a stern look, then continued with "Okay fine but we have to be quiet okay?".

Which didn't stop any of you from also being naked, sticky and completely depleted, you in particular. How Tahenohan manages to make you come so hard still escapes you, no one could do it with such a striking success before her.

Lewdness aside, you feel like a lot of tension was relieved from everyone. You and Bryld in particular. And when you wake up around dawn, with a bunny ear almost covering your eyes and a pair of breasts pressed against your side, along with a featherweight half-elf using your body as a bed, you find yourself restored and with enough energy to tackle what is probably the most dangerous journey you undertook so far.

Hopefully, like your previous ones, it will turn out you've been nervous for no reason and everything will be okay. But in case, just in case, something will happen, you have three brave adventurers with you.

Time to save an arachne.

And this is it for Episode 64!

Thank you for participating. This feels like a good moment to close, even though I guess I had the time for one more update, but I'd rather spend it to talk with you about something I wanted to mention.

Like I said, I've been thinking this quest over. After recovering from last thread, in which I admit I was a bit down and a bit overly dramatic, I have been reflecting on the direction I could take this quest, which I've been doing for two years by now.

Basically, this started as a light-hearted, Slice of Life fantasy quest about exploring an untamed land and meeting strange, exotic creatures. I had little or no plans for it other than that, and it showed.

However, since Slice of Life can only go so far and it's clear people love adventuring even in the more classic sense (and I can't blame them), there's an option that I've been thinking about.

Please consider THIS IS JUST AN IDEA I'm not married to and I'm just throwing around, I'll probably open a poll on Twitter too if you don't immediately shoot it down.

I was thinking: I have material to have Lillith go North to save the arachne, and then explore East and West too if you want to. After that I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could make a little bit of a change.

I could have Lillith "settle down" and manage the monster brigade and become a recurrent NPC in a second quest, that would have the same setting and everything, but a different Main Character. I was thinking an actual adventurer, someone with skills who could go about being adventurous without being told "Hey you're a level 1 commoner, remember?", which I suspect gets infuriating after a while.

Of course I could also have Lillith go from zero to hero, but that doesn't sit too well with me, for two reasons. The first being that, not to be pedantic, but it would take her time and a lot of practice to get to the level where she can confidently tackle the dangers in the Shadow Marches. The second being that it feels like a betrayal of the original Slice of Life intent of the quest.

And that's it. Remember it's JUST AN IDEA. Please feel free to offer all your thoughts about it.

Thanks for running.

I think that sounds like a fair plan for where to go from here. It'd definitely offer closure to this quest with sufficient time to not make it feel sudden, and keep the characters around in the periphery (or more, but at least that) so anons can still catch up with them. The only issue I could have with it is whether it makes sense for her to settle down like that, but give our vote on the brigade it can't be called particularly out of character.

I'm interested in seeing what you're thinking regarding the next quest once the time for that rolls around!
>>
>>261135
I'd rather not have her settle down, it's rare you have a futa protag played properly. And yes I know it's a shitty reason.
>>
Thanks for running.
>>261132
Schrodinger's noise.
>>261135
A heroine Lillith could be fun, but not without heavy amounts of time skipping or deus ex machinas, like sudden blessing or awakening a magical potential she didn't have. However, a monster brigade leader Lillith's could add politicking/brigade building/diplomancing aspects, which are also usually popular. Just my 2 cents about extending SO.

An adventurer quest could be fun too, but I'd like to keep contact with Lillith and Ishtar. Could we be a monster?
>>
>>261135
I will miss Lillith a lot and still love to follow this quest, but at the same time it doesn't make sense for you to force yourself to write something you're not 100% sure about and invested in if you'd rather try something new. And I'm sure whatever you do next will be fun too.
>>
>>261148
Yeah, leader quests are also fun. A quest where we played as both Lillith (doing leadership things like diplomacy and molesting elfbutts and bunnybutts) and an adventurer character at different times would be fun too. Sadly, that idea would no doubt run into the same issue this quest has had somewhat in that 4 hours a week is NOT enough to juggle multiple stories/POVs like that even if MP wanted to, so I don't think that would be a good solution.
>>
>>261146
It's not a shitty reason, and thank you for the compliment. I myself wonder why other people don't try to play the futa angle for anything but cheap porn, I mean seriously, I expected /tg/ to be better at this sort of thing. I wonder ig /qst/ will, at this point? One can always hope.

>>261145
>>261148
>>261152
I'm sorry, I probably didn't explain myself correctly: I put "settle down" between quotes because... You know Lillith, it's not like she sits down there and becomes a housewife, she'll still be exploring and managing, and will be a recurrent NPC and hell, possibly a questgiver or your main contact or whatever else.

It's true that time skipping and deus ex machinas don't sit well with me, and that would be required of Lillith to go in true adventurer mode, which I feel would be a betrayal of her character. That's what's holding me back.

>>261162
You're right. I don't have time to run what would amount to be two quests in one. Unfortunately. It's not that I don't want to, I just can't.

Still, leader quests are fine, and this could definitely turn into one if that's what you like. I have absolutely no problem with it.

>Could we be a monster?
If we go the Adventurer Quest option, yes, that's definitely possible.

There will be some in-quest chargen, possibly split along the threads like we did in this and hopefully a lot less rushed, but since you old time followers know the setting a lot better than newbies, I was thinking of eventually letting you make at least some (not all) choices beforehand, so we wouldn't be a blank-slate. These would include, for example, race and possibly magic use or divine connection. The rest is intuitive enough even for a complete newbie to make choices for.
>>
>>261168
Hmmm, I dunno. I'm kinda split on the chargen stuff. On one hand I'm not a big fan of it at all, and on the other, new players might get frustrated and annoyed when they figure out that some people got to decide more about the main character than they did. But it might work out fine, too.
>>
>>261168
One thing I'm a little sad about is all the stuff we never got to, like really spreading ishtar or helping the mermaids out. I'll probably get over it though. There's still plenty of threads to go after all. Lots of time to work out the details of what to do as well.

I'll have to take that into account, yes. Like I said, it's just an idea, it's still getting worked on and I might not even go through with it unless I feel it's supported enough.

>>261197
Don't worry, it's not like this change will happen overnight, if at all. We still have at least a few threads to go even if we decide to switch to a more adventurous type of quest.
>>
>>261204
Anons are just naturally attached to Lillith now. A fresh start COULD definitely help in terms of getting more readers in, so in that way it's not a bad move at all. Although I haven't kept up with /qst/ for a while so I dunno how non-drawquests do these days.

I'm attached to Lillith too, but I felt like I had to at least throw an idea out there lest the quest would have died.

But, like I said, it's just an idea, I won't necessarily go through with it, and even if I do it won't be until enough treads to wrap up at least some of the ends we have loose right now, so don't worry.

It makes sense for Lillith to settle down with this brigade. The quest is Start Over for a reason; she was looking for a new life, and she found a perfect opportunity for it. If it gives her a reasonable income and stable life (for a given value of stability), her life's goal is fulfilled.

She can still please Ishtar by managing the monster brigade and helping introduce them to the military and the nobles with claim over this land. Acting as a bridge between them, like she was always meant to do. She can also go out with Bryld and charter the land when on official business. There are few reasons for her to not settle down now, if any.

That said, I want to see both this Adventurer Quest and Monster Boss Lillith ideas. If you try the later one, give it a different name to separate it from SO itself instead of robbing SO of an ending.
>>

You know, when people tell me not to worry, it just worries me more.
