>OOC: Previously, on Shipgirl Commander >>272318

‘I think I could use a work table.’ You rub your chin, thinking carefully as you fill out Shigure’s requisition form – you could definitely use one. ‘And an office chair if you’re able to spare one, sir.’

You write both down on the requisition form and the upgrade to Shigure’s current gear. He gives you a small smirk as he reads off it.

‘Straight for the luxuries, eh? Just so happens that we managed to salvage a bunch of office chairs. I’m sure we can spare you one – a table, though?’ He frowns, giving you a look. ‘You’re not asking for one of those fancy ones that I have, are you? Because that’s strictly for Admirals.’

‘No, sir,’ you chuckle, raising a hand, ‘just a table to work my things out. I don’t think the Division’ll appreciate me having paper all over.’

‘Fair enough.’ He sighs, putting the files away and raising from his seat. You follow suit. ‘I’ll put in a request for a table; you should have one by midnight tonight.. The maintenance boys’ll help out bring things over.’

‘I appreciate that, sir.’ You give him a salute; he doesn’t return it, looking to the window-doors with a thoughtful stare.

‘Commander, I have to stress to you how important it is for you to keep the information that you pertained on-base and within your Division.’ He says neutrally, turning back to you. ‘I’ll be talking to my own Guard later, but you’ll have to make sure if you decide to tell your other Division members about it, to get them to keep it down.’

‘Of course, sir.’

The both of you begin walking towards the corridor, less like military men and more like a friend showing a guest out. It’s a startlingly casual atmosphere as you move towards the door.

‘And if you’re wondering, I have that sample of whatever it is you found.’ Your ears perk and your eyes widen as you turn to him. ‘We’ll be running our tests on it, but don’t get your hopes up. With what we have, it might take weeks to even get one reading – I know we’re a little crunched for time, but I’d still like you to trust me on this. Even if it does sound stupid as all Hell.’

‘I trust your judgment, sir.’ You give a gracious bow. ‘I have my own reservations, but I trust you.’

You try to give him an encouraging nod.

‘Appreciated, Commander.’ He smiles, walking into the afternoon sun.

Well, you had a few days off.

You have a whole afternoon and evening free – you decide to might as well use it to see one of your KanMusu while off duty; you buckle yourself up proper and walk outside the door. As you do, you see the Admiral disappearing down the corner and outside the compound; dusting yourself off and wincing at the sun’s glare, you see your two attendants chatting on one side of the compound, arguing about one thing or the other. You shake your head, smiling, and head out, hands in your pockets.

The old man isn’t here; neither is any other buggy – being lunch time, it’s quite predictable for it to be so clear, but it didn’t do you any favors. Your mind briefly turns back to Tenryuu and the mission – of all the members that had taken part in that particular fiasco, successful as it was, she had gone through the worst of the lot, having lived to tell the tale against both an Oni and a Ru-Class without any weaponry of her own. You believe that she needed a little pick-me-up after what had happened.

You make your way down the street. The places around you look a little run down, but the work had already begun – and the rest of the lot was being patched up the best that it could, if at all. Some of the other buildings on the block opposite the compound were already put through the motions – by people who didn’t look like maintenance, no less – you guess that these would probably be the original building owners coming back to do a little cleaning up for themselves.

Good for them.

If memory served you right, Tenryuu was working by the beach again – she had been the Quartermaster before, so it would make sense for her to be pulling logistical duties once again – and if you couldn’t find her, you could always just ask around there or hang around to wait with the other KanMusu. You put your hands in your pockets, humming a tune as you walk down the pathway, occasionally spotting a few civilians working on town blocks.

‘Heya, Boss!’

You stumble as your eyes go over a bunch of intimidating-looking persons lifting a particularly heavy load of bricks into a wheel-barrow, giving you a thumbs-up as you walk past them. You give them a salute and a nod, to which one of them gives you a clumsy one in return. You take in the rest of the sights as you make you way to the beach, you spot a few children with an elderly woman.

She gives you a quick glance before ushering the children away from you and out of sight. You frown as you continue to make your way to your destination, puzzled by the reaction. You guess some people just didn’t like you.

It’s about half an hour and change when you reach a familiar side of the beach, where an even more familiar stripe-socked girl in a blanket stands before you, blocking your path down. She looks up at you with blank eyes, cocking her head to one side.

‘Hey.’ You smile down at her, rubbing a shoulder; she only looks up to you, that blank stare still fixed on your eyes. ‘I remember you from the last time – I…’ you try to recall her name, but find that you can’t. ‘You were helping out Tenryuu when she was Quartermaster, right?’ To this, she nods, but she still doesn’t say a word. ‘You’ve known her for long?’

‘I have,’ she begins, biting her lip and looking away, ‘are you looking for her right now? She’s gone off to see Yuubari-san for a while. She won’t be back for half-an-hour… but you can wait here, if you wish.’

‘I… I will.’ You sigh, moving to lean against the short wall separating the street and the beach below.

The KanMusu cocks her head again, observing you. You don’t notice her make a quick movement around you and end up right in front of you, looking at you like you’re some sort of toy for sale. Upon further inspection you see that the KanMusu’s face is a little thinner than most – her eyes are a lot more dull than the others you’ve met, it is as if she is perpetually bored. Her expression didn’t play into a wide spectrum, but she did look a little interested if her body language – covered in blanket as before – is any indication of it.

‘You’re that new Commander, right?’ She’s a little harsh and straightforward in tone, but you’re not quite sure if she means anything by it. She could easily just be talking normally as much as she could be imitating the best of Nachi. ‘Tenryuu talks about you.’ You cross your arms, leaning against the wall at this. ‘She says that you’re a little…’ She twirls a finger against her ear, to which you frown.

‘What do you think?’ You chuckle, despite yourself. ‘Do you think I’m…?’ You trail off, imitating her brief moment – the KanMusu blinks in surprise, cocking her head to one side again. ‘You know.’

‘I haven’t been into your Stream.’ She says factually and crisply, crossing her arms under her blanket and leaning against the wall with you. ‘I can’t give an opinion.’ She looks up at you. ‘But I trust Tenryuu – you must be a little crazy compared to other Commanders.’ She gestures to your eyepatch, as if it is evidence in some sort of bizarre trial. ‘I’ve never seen one wear that before.’

‘Lost it in a fight,’ that’s a half-truth, really – you’d gained a little too much sensitivity from the Fairy’s Tears treatment since, but telling people you’d got into a fight made it sound a lot… cooler, at least for you, ‘guy had a gun right at me and got me right here,’ you press onto the patch with a finger, smirking playfully at the girl, who it turns out actually could get a little excited by a good story, ‘I knocked him something bad, though.’

‘Cool.’ She says in a dull voice, nodding. ‘I thought…’

She bites her lip, hesitant to go on.

‘Thought what?’ You cross your arms, genuinely curious of her opinion. She continues to bite her lip, grinding at it as she takes a hesitant step back and looks away – it’s like she’s a little scared of you, and you feel a little bit hesitant to go on yourself, if this was how one question did it in for her. ‘Hey, it’s okay, I’m not gonna bite.’

She looks back right up at you with her dull eyes – they’re not quite dead, but with this KanMusu you feel like some kind of emotional matrix hadn’t connected quite properly. She flaps her gums with no sound coming out for a few moments, before letting out a worried sound and taking a step forward, as though she had come through a sort of monumental conclusion. You fight down a small laugh as she looks up at you – like a child called to the front of the class to write an answer to a blackboard.

‘I thought you wore it to match Tenryuu.’ She says briskly, looking rather proud of herself. You find yourself a little speechless – she huffs, shuffling inside the blanket and staring up at you. You blink in surprise; you had never thought of it like that before. ‘She’s cool… I thought you wanted… to be cool, too.’

‘You find Tenryuu cool?’ You frown, taking that particular thought down for analysis. You’d never thought that your CL would be admired for any of her tendencies besides her hard work and advocacy for her individuality, not to mention her assertiveness, but it would seem that she did have a little – although one wouldn’t be that much proof – fanbase of her own here. ‘What’s so cool about her?’

‘Tenryuu is cool.’ She gives you an honest smile, taking you slightly aback. ‘She takes care of everyone – she’s not strong but she helps us a lot. I like her. She’s…’ She turns a little red as she trails off, but coughs herself into a sort of adorable resolve, going on, ‘She’s always there for everyone and she knows a lot – more than what normal KanMusu would know.’ She nods, smiling as brightly as before. ‘Tenryuu will always be there for you if you need it – that’s what makes her cool.’

You honestly don’t know how to respond to that. It felt like such a strange and childish declaration, but it had been so frank that you couldn’t help but admire it.

‘She can sing really good, too.’ she then catches herself, as though she had said some sort of secret. ‘Don’t say I said – !’

‘Commander? What’re you doing here?’

Tenryuu arrives, carrying a crate about twice the size of the KanMusu before you, looking to the both of you. You turn to the KanMusu again, only to find her nodding and walking down the stairs.

‘I didn’t catch your name, Little Miss?’

Tenryuu snickers at that.

Little Miss?’ she turns a little red. ‘Shimakaze. ‘Zekamashi for short.’’ She then gives a bow, going to one of the tents on the beach.

‘Surprised to see you here, sir.’

That is in terrible taste. I can't see it making her feel better either.
>>
‘Is it that surprising to you?’ You cross your arms, giving her a once over.

Tenryuu sets down her things, revealing that she had once again chose to, rather than have her regular wear on, she’d chosen to once again don the familiar white bikini you’d seen her in before. She definitely was stronger than she looked – those boxes didn’t look the least bit light, and she’d probably carried them all the way here with no problem.

‘A little, yeah,’ Tenryuu grunts, rolling her shoulder as she put down the offending items, nodding over to you, cocking her head from one side to the other in emphasis, ‘you know, after all you went through the last… several hours. I guess.’

‘I’m fit as a fiddle, Tenryuu, you don’t have to worry about that.’ You chuckle, to which she snorts.

Tenryuu doesn’t look alleviate of it at all.

‘I ain’t worried about that.’ You wish to retort, but the good-natured poke to your chest gets rid of a little of the rising tension. ‘A… a, you know, a Princess in the stream? That’s kind of a lot to work with me.’ She looks apologetic, biting the inside of her cheeks as she regards you. ‘Forgive me I’m a little bit on edge with you right now.’

You feel a little deflated; so much for earning the trust and belief of your subordinates.

‘But,’ she snaps towards you, her visible eye exuding an aura of suspicion, ‘I’m also kinda curious.’ She places her hands on her hips, leaning forward as if examining you like an exhibit in a court house. ‘How’d Kaga and Nagato drag your ass out of there?’

‘Who told you about all that, anyway?’ You frown; you hadn’t offered to explain any of those things just yet.

‘Nagato called a meeting this morning.’ Tenryuu crosses her arms, looking straight at you. ‘She went about how you were tired and all that after… you know, and told us whatever we felt last night wasn’t something we needed to worry about.’ She lets out a sigh, notching her cheeks. ‘Worried the Hell out of Samidare and Murakumo, though.’

‘And you?’ You raise an eyebrow.

‘You’re a tough pole, I think you can take a little more than a little attack on your stream to get you invalid.’ She grins, giving you a friendly pat on the chest. ‘Speaking of which, you should really regale Nachi on that adventure of yours.’

‘Adventure?’ You’re a little lost now; Tenryuu seemed to like jumping from topic to topic. ‘Don’t know if I follow.’

‘You know… I heard from your boys,’ you let out a sigh – she’d talked to your indoctrinated gang members – of course she would, ‘how you took out a whole bunch’a goons with a friggin’ ta – !’

‘Tenryuu!’ An unfamiliar voice calls out. ‘Line’s getting bigger!’

Tenryuu lifts her load again, giving you a wink.

‘Maybe I can help around.’ You move to grab some of the offending items off her hands – almost dropping one – they’re just so heavy‘That is, if you’re all right with me being on your back the whole day.’

Tenryuu gives you a smirk, rolling her shoulders again as she hoists her load, taking her first steps onto the stairs.

‘I don’t know what you’re playing at, sir, but I think any help’ll be good.’ She gestures with her head to follow, and you both step onto the sandy heat of the beach – the day is clear, and there is a line of people; there’s a feeling of deja vu that rushes over you as you walk alongside Tenryuu towards that familiar tent.

‘So you’re still pulling Quartermaster duty on off-days, huh?’ You strike up something.

‘Not exactly.’ She slumps her shoulders as you keep walking past the crowd, who’re a lot more quiet that they had been before. ‘Yuubari’s got most of the work on her lap right now, thanks to my transfer.’ She gives you a prod with an elbow as you make it to the tent. ‘Thanks, by the way, for that – I would’be been swamped otherwise.’

You set your things down, feeling your arm a little more sore than it had been before.

‘Tenryuu, over here!’ the same voice from before calls out; you turn to its source, to see a girl who looked like an atypical – albeit slightly prettier than usual fair – teenager upon first glance.

She’s a KanMusu – you can tell as much by the gear and rigging that she had. Completely clad in white with features rounder and yet more energetic than you could fathom. There was an energy to her, but also a control; she reminded you of a more mature Samidare, looks aside, with a hint of brightness for good measure crowned by her brown hair. You cock your head to one side, realizing that this was one of those two KanMusu you’d seen out at sea when you’d been sent to see Tenryuu in the first place.

‘Hang on, Teruzuki – hang on.’ Tenryuu drops the last of her things, before springing up and looking around, confused. ‘Hey, where’d Shimakaze get to?’

‘She’s on the water.’

‘Right.’ Tenryuu sighs. ‘The food guys gone yet?’

‘Yup. All we have are the other logistics – !’

She turns to see you, embarrassingly dropping into a bow before you could say anything.

‘Oh, Commander. It’s nice to finally meet you, sir!’

‘Teruzuki, where’s your sister?’ Tenryuu looks around again, puzzled by something.

‘She was with Shimakaze a moment ago, I can’t say where she’s gone to now.’ Teruzuki shrugs apologetically.

‘Well, looks like you’re my assistant for today, Commander.’

‘Huh?’ You blink.

You practically volunteered five seconds ago.’

She slaps your bottom for good measure, smirking.

‘You’re helping.’

Also, will let us know if swimgear is required to be her assistant.

‘What’s up with the bikini?’ You frown, leaning against the table.

Tenryuu gives you a flat look, as if you’d asked one of the most obvious things in the world.

‘You’d rather I work naked?’

That wasn’t the point.

‘No, I’m just wondering – !’ You begin, but find that you’re cut off from asking anymore by her shoving a clipboard under your nose, which you hesitantly take. ‘What’s this about?’

‘Can you check these out for me?’ She doesn’t hear you, gesturing with the people waiting under the sun with jab of her thumb, leaning over while still looking back at you. ‘I’ll deal with the line. There’re boxes with red labels and yellow labels – tick out the ones that are red and – oh, hang on – there are purple labels too. They’re on the red labels – that means that they’re supposed to go to personnel only, so just put a P next to the ticks with the red labels so they can be classified.’

‘Ten – !’ You try to ask for an explanation, but find that your Light Cruiser had already turned away – but not before throwing a red pen in your direction, which you catch with a frown; she definitely was in charge here, if her change in demeanor had been anything to go by.

‘Thanks.’ She waves you off, before turning right back to you, raising a finger for emphasis. ‘Oh, but before that, bring out about two with the yellow labels out. I’m supposed to give them away here.’

You want to say something back, but Tenryuu waves you off and turns to the first person in line behind the large crates that made up the makeshift counter she was behind. You try to get a word in edge-wise, but Tenryuu was already acting the part of the company receptionist, talking with the middle-aged, sour woman who was to be the first of many. You go to the back, behind the canvas and bring out two yellow crates, setting them next to her with a little difficulty.

‘What are these?’

‘Supplies.’ Tenryuu grins as she crouches with you to open the cover. ‘I don’t have to deal with anymore transportation issues but I still have a job to do here.’ She points a finger at the canvas opening. ‘And now, so do you, Mr Volunteer!’

You roll your eyes, Commanding Officer or no, Tenryuu had the reins here. Grabbing the clipboard you begin classifying the items as she’d requested – for a sandy beach it was quite dusty in here. It isn’t long – or too long, anyway – until someone taps you on the shoulder, to which you turn around to see Tenryuu, her hands behind her head as she observes you with her one lone eye.

‘So you’re wondering about the bikini, right?’ She smirks…

And unstraps her top.

‘Touch ‘em.’

You feel a need to get out into less stuffier quarters, but can’t move – she presents herself to you, emphasizing herself with a close movement to your personal space, still smirking.

Considering that it's implied they fixed up Kaga's stomach and vagina back to working order, fixing up Tenryuu's breasts as actual breasts wouldn't be out of the question

This. Plus if I remember correctly, Tenryuu's file states that she hasn't seen much actual combat prior to joining up with our division.
>>
>>294287
Not much frontline experience, lots of experience in officer and support roles. Also, she's been around for 10 years, which IIRC means she's been around since the beginning of the shipgirl entry into the war.

Although, going back and reading her file more thoroughly, I did notice that she had been shortlisted for "psychiatric trauma", which could mean a whole host of things.

‘Tenryuu, I am not groping your – !’

Tenryuu doesn’t look deterred, however, and she only presses on further. You raise your hand, wondering if this could be filed as harassment of some sort, but it doesn’t seem that Tenryuu would care one bit – you try to call upon your considerable experience as a Commander and try to cite protocol, but find that you really can’t get the words together for some reason.

Then you look down at her bare chest and that horrible grin of hers and you know exactly why.

‘What? You weren’t shy when it was Takao or Kaga.’ Tenryuu’s teeth bare almost maliciously, and you find yourself a nervous wreck as she closes in on you, her lone eye glinting with mischief. ‘You gonna go soft on me, Commander?’ That grin grows wider than you think possible and that eye of hers only narrows with every passing second. ‘I ain’t gonna bite – so if you wanna cop a feel, now’s the time.’

You reluctantly – or not quite so reluctantly – raise your hands as the hunter in you gives in and with a sigh, they hover an inch away from her considerable flesh; to see her smirk the only thing that seemed to be the thing that cut you down before you could get anything particular in and you pray that your condition wasn’t going to humiliate you further.

You put your hands on her chest, to which she looks away, suddenly and shockingly demure. Tenryuu is considerable – of that there can be no doubt of any kind. You find yourself embarrassingly comparing her to Takao, kicking yourself at the back of your head as you do so but can’t exactly shake off the attempt. You remind yourself in the 20-odd years of life you hadn’t been this close to a woman – let alone women – but in the last two to three weeks had joined the realm of the other weaselly and rascally hunters of feminine wiles with but your considerable bulk and your horrible decision-making choices. Truly, there was something right there around the corner for you that was ugly.

Thought, at least for now, you can at least be content that your hands are full of female flesh of the most delectable kind, heavy and plump, soft and unmarred.

‘So, why the bikini?’ You barely let out a grunt, to which she chuckles casually, looking away from you. ‘Tenryuu?’

‘Well? Whatcha think?’ She gives you that smirk, hands on her breasts and rolling over her nipples with your rough thumbs almost unconsciously. ‘Not bad, right?’

‘Failing to see the point.’ You answer honestly.

‘My clothes are too tight.’ Tenryuu answers simply. ‘Simple as that.’

‘Couldn’t have just told me that?’ You don’t cease cupping her chest, however – strange.

‘Eh… showing’s better than telling... and an exchange is better than a freebie.’ She laughs darkly. 'And as a man... you're not backing down after this, are you?'

She wanted something. Of course.

‘You know, I always forget you’re the smartest KanMusu on record.’ You meet her smirk with a neutral gaze, only to see Tenryuu back away, hands behind her back, grasping onto the top of her bikini. ‘Guess this goes to show me why.’

‘I can read people’s patterns just fine. Comes with being genius-tier intelligence.’ She says smugly, bending over – her breasts hang sensually, but you don’t fall for it this time – and presenting herself as she did before; she goes on, chortling. ‘You’re a bit weird, though – is it because you’re a virgin?’

‘It’s because I’m insecure.’ You correct her, grimacing as you adjust the straps of your eye patch.

Tenryuu looks taken aback by the reply – you don’t know how she took it, but you know what you meant by it was far from what she perceived of it, contrary to her earlier statements of herself. She actually looks sorry, reeling back and rubbing her arm, dropping her top to the sandy beach.

‘Hey, look, I was just playing – I didn’t want to…’ She trails off – she kind of reminded you of yourself with that expression, that insecurity and apologetic attempt, and you can’t help but cow yourself and to listen for once, ‘look, I didn’t mean to put you on the spot – it’s just, you know…’

‘All right, fine.’ You try to alleviate the mood, giving her a smile.

‘Excuse me?’

Fine.’ You shrug. ‘Like you said, you know? An exchange works better than a freebie – you know I wouldn’t back down, and…’

‘Hey, come on, Commander.’ She picks up her top, giving you an accusatory glance.

‘It’s fine, really.’ You cross your arms. ‘So what do you – you know, want that I can do for you?’

‘We just talked about it.’ She puts a finger on a nipple, comically bringing it to your attention. ‘I want some new clothes, if that’s all right with you?’

‘Couldn’t you just requisition the Admiral for – ?’

‘Yeah, I could.’ She says crisply. ‘It’d look great on a form, too – Tenryuu wants some jeans and a sundress – that’d look really good on paper.’

‘So how do you expect me to do this for you?’ You sigh, giving in.

‘I want a trip in-land.’ She nods seriously. ‘We could salvage things from around here, but… hey, I wanna be spoiled once in a while – especially after the guy’s running his hands over my hooters.’

‘They’re a nice pair.’ You raise a hand casually, running a thumb over her areolae – you’re impressed she’s so smooth. ‘Might wanna get a better size for them, though – they’re kinda big for whatever you’re – !’

Tenryuu gives you a look, hands on her hips.

‘Right.’ You sigh, pulling back your hand.

'You know,' she chuckles, 'your hands; they're not bad.'

‘Who usually helps you out?’ You frown as Tenryuu dons her top again, wondering just why, despite all those people outside, there seemed to be a lack of help for her and her lot – even if there were those two girls.

‘Shimakaze, when she can be bothered to come to work.’ Tenryuu grunts, stringing on her bikini.

‘She doesn’t?’

Tenryuu runs a hand through her hair, biting her lip and looking – all of a sudden – very much apologetic. She hesitates for a moment to go on, looking to the gap in the canvas, to the crates then back to you, letting out a huge sigh; her lone eye loses its energy. There is a reservation to her now.

‘Sorry, that’s… that’s not fair of me.’ Tenryuu breathes, hands on her hips and looking out to the clear sea. ‘Shimakaze helps out, but she… she’s been busy.’ She chuckles – mirthlessly or not you can’t tell – and runs a hand through her hair again. She looks troubled, really. ‘I’m usually a little short-handed, but it’s really fine – I know we are on all fronts and I’m okay with that.’

She gives you a smile. One that doesn’t quite reach her eyes.

‘It’s just the usual workplace rant. Don’t bother with it.’

‘Okay.’ You decide not to push it – it didn’t seem Tenryuu wanted to pursue whatever it was she and Shimakaze had between each other, so you try to change the topic on your own. ‘So what do you usually – !’

‘Can I get some service here?!’ A woman yells out, crying from the front.

‘Come on, you’re my assistant today, so you better come out there with me.’ Tenryuu gives you a pat on the prosthetic, making her way to the front.

‘What about the labels?’ You point to the crates and boxes, confused. ‘I don’t think I’m – !’

‘Let’s go.’ Tenryuu grabs your hand, bringing you out to the counter, fixing a grin on her face as she does sio – this one’s not quite honest either.

‘Heya, sorry for the wait, Lady.’

There’s a heavily-pierced young woman before you, shorter than you and Tenryuu, her hair in dreadlocks – she had an odor to her you couldn’t exactly stand, but you keep quiet about it.

‘Good. I’m from the Northern Sector. We need a maintenance crew or supplies – the plumbing in the complex doesn’t work anymore and those slackers of yours aren’t doing a thing about it.’

‘You need pipes and stuff?’ Tenryuu frowns. ‘Sorry, but we can’t – !’

‘What do you mean you can’t?!’ She shrills. ‘We don’t have any filtration going on there!’

‘We can send a crew, but if we send one it’ll take – !’

‘Take what?!’ The girl slams her hands on the table. ‘All I’m asking is for a crew or to give us some pipes so we can fix something! It’s not hard!’

‘Look, lady, we’re trying – !’

‘We’ve lost much because of you and your lot! Now you’re telling us you can’t even fix a pipe so we can live?!’

‘Excuse me.’ You rumble, taking a step forward and setting your prosthetic down on the wooden surface; behind the girl, several of the others in the line step back, whispering as they watch you walk into the light.

‘Who the Hell are you?’ She snaps, looking up – she’s not much shorter than Tenryuu, but she’s young and was definitely feisty. Despite your misgivings, you don’t rise to her call, merely looking at her. She’s not fazed by you – she’s either ignorant of your stature or too bull-headed to turn back. ‘If you’re not a maintenance goon, I suggest – !’

‘1st Division Commander of Yokosuka.’ You cut her off.

Her eyes light up. You notice a shift in her demeanor immediately – there’s an enthusiasm, a civility to her now as she addresses you, putting her hands on the table with a good slam.

‘Finally, someone who I can talk to!’ She chirps, smiling and revealing another piercing. ‘Look, we have a crapload of problems in the housing complex in the Northern Sector. Nothing’s working properly and we can give a rat’s ass about blankets – but the filtration needs to be fixed!’ She looks at you earnestly. ‘We don’t have any drinkable water up there!’

‘I thought all filtration units were fixed in the aftermath?’ You look to Tenryuu, who gestures back to the girl.

‘Yeah, but it’s broken down again – we need someone to get up there; it’s been three days and that maintenance crew of yours isn’t even on the corner.’ She rolls her eyes.

‘Look, I already told you – we only got so many trained Personnel.’ Tenryuu replies, exasperated and leaning over, as if explaining to a child. ‘You’ll just have to wait – if we have you put up at the front, other sectors’ll be screwed over in the process.’ She looks pleadingly to you, then back to the girl. ‘It’ll take away from what we’re doing – we’ll get to the Northern Sector, but right now the Eastern Sector takes priority – that goes up all the sewage’s gonna pile up all ov – !’

‘I’m not talking to you, KanMusu.’ She snarls.

You look to Tenryuu, who bare her fangs, but does nothing else.

‘You – !’

She lets out a breath.

‘The base can’t spare anymore personnel; you’ll just have to wait your turn.’ Tenryuu begins calmly. ‘In the mean time, there’s a central source you can collect water from. It’s far, but you should be able to get some drinkable water until we can send a tanker truck to get you what you need. We can’t break the maintenance schedule or we’ll have chaos in the other sectors.’

‘Unbelievable!’ The girl raises her hands, the jangle of her bracelets apparent. ‘You don’t understand a single iota of what I just told you, do you?’

They lock eyes, glaring at one another.

you gotta be clever and use racism subtly. Outright racism is not bad but gets old pretty quick. If you need ideas on subtle racism go to /pol/ or /int/ and scour through some threads. Always a good racist insult in there somewhere.

>Outright racism is not bad but gets old pretty quick.

That's kinda the point of racism. It's designed to wear you down make you controllable. Being inescapable makes this vastly more effective. The only time it gets subtle is when it is either considered unacceptable by the culture, or the racists are feel secure and happy enough in their life that they can afford to be 'generous'.

>>295718
>Generally racism is much more subtle, though in a chaotic situation the "timid bigots" become much more vocal. I live in the Midwestern US, and you'd be surprised just how belligerent some people here can get at the slightest inconvenience.

On the other hand, it gets turned to 11 when people are under stress or feel threatened. Especially when the threat is to their world view as it relates to themselves. That's when things get really nasty. That's when you get things like public lynchings. By the way, those were horrifyingly prevalent in the south. It wasn't uncommon for people to send out invitations to them on high quality stationary. The kind you see used today for wedding invitations. I actually got to read one of those when I helped go through the estate of my great aunt. They were widely covered by newspapers too.

My impression of this world is that only thing stopping people from doing that here is that they don't have any alternatives to fight the abyssals. That and whole: 'they are banned from ever fighting back against them.'
>>
>>296412
I agree with all this.

So far the kanmusu racism has been... light. Stuff we've really just heard about or seen drunk people doing. Here its coming from a sane, sober individual. Really gets across how prevalent or virulent it must be.

Good on the Commander for being totally oblivious to it until now.

‘The Admiralty doesn’t have the manpower to spare you.’ You raise yourself into a proper stand, calling the girl’s attention to you. You didn’t have to think much to take the next move, you’d trusted Tenryuu enough to have made a calculated decision in regards to this – she wouldn’t intentionally leave things as is without getting hands on, even if she was an abrasive excuse of a woman. ‘It’s cruel, but we have to keep the schedule as it is.’

Are you kidding me?!’ The girl shrills, looking in disbelief from you to Tenryuu; Tenryuu doesn’t look smug at all – in fact, she’s as stone-faced as ever as she leans over herself, looking at the girl dead in the eye.

‘No, I’m not.’ You tun to Tenryuu, hoping she could put something in right now to back you up just as you did her. ‘I’m just stating the facts. Right now the Northern Sector is…’

‘The Northern Sector is the least damaged of the four sectors we’ve divided – we can’t spare any manpower up your end until the Southern camp is at least in proper operating condition.’ Tenryuu crosses her arms, neutrally regarding the girl. ‘It’s cruel to you, but we have to prioriti – !’

Prioritize.’ She snarls, baring her teeth at Tenryuu, before smiling darkly, raising her arms in exasperation. ‘Of course. Of course that’s the one word you use; majority dictates, analysis concludes. You don’t know anything but number crunching! The lot of you!’

You don’t like where she’s taking this, but you don’t say a word at it.

‘We can’t spare any manpower.’ Tenryuu says honestly. ‘What we can do is give you a tanker truck for your water needs, but even that’ll take a few days to arra – !’

‘I’ve been through three weeks of this shitty Hell here, and I am not leaving until my complex and my neighbors are tended to!’ She calls out, turning to the people behind her, who give her a wide berth. ‘We’re not like you! We breathe and love and we have people we care about! Right now they can’t even get a drink and you’re using some fucked up logic matrix to decide who gets what?!’

There are claps in the line, which had devolved into a crowd. There are people cheering her and shouting above the din – the girl turns back to you and Tenryuu. Tenryuu’s lips are a thin line, but she says nothing – behind her people are breaking into an almost cartoonish chant.

You bring your prosthetic down onto the makeshift table, glaring at the lot of them with your one good eye as the loud thud catches their eyes and ears. The girl puffs her chest, taking in your stare, not the least bit intimidated by you. That didn’t matter – what mattered was that everyone had given you their undivided attention. You work a small smile onto your face, chuckling as you looked over them.

>…between 1880 and 1930, a black Southerner died at the hands of a white mob more than twice a week.

More importantly though, They were horrifying, well publicised, and supported by near every facet of the community.

http://www.english.illinois.edu/maps/poets/g_l/lynching/lynching.htm
>Statistics do not tell the entire story, however. These were recorded lynchings; others were never reported beyond the community involved. Furthermore, mobs used especially sadistic tactics when blacks were the prime targets. By the 1890s lynchers increasingly employed burning, torture, and dismemberment to prolong suffering and excite a "festive atmosphere" among the killers and onlookers. White families brought small children to watch, newspapers sometimes carried advance notices, railroad agents sold excursion tickets to announced lynching sites, and mobs cut off black victims' fingers, toes, ears, or genitalia as souvenirs. …not infrequently, the mob was encouraged or led by people prominent in the area's political and business circles. Lynching had become a ritual of interracial social control and recreation rather than simply a punishment for crime.

>>296656
>Most of them were caused by the public not agreeing with what the court had ruled on the defendant.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/till/peopleevents/e_lynch.html
>Most infractions were for petty crimes, like theft, but the biggest one of all was looking at or associating with white women. Many victims were black businessmen or black men who refused to back down from a fight. Headlines such as the following were not uncommon:
>"Five White Men Take Negro Into Woods; Kill Him: Had Been Charged with Associating with White Women" went over The Associated Press wires about a lynching in Shreveport, Louisiana.
>"Negro Is Slain By Texas Posse: Victim's Heart Removed After His Capture By Armed Men" was published in The New York World Telegram on December 8, 1933.
>"Negro and White Scuffle; Negro Is Jailed, Lynched" was published in the Atlanta Constitution on July 6, 1933.

Seriously, look around. This stuff is well documented.
>>

I live down in the South, the total amount of lynching officially if I remember never got above 3000 in all the years it took place. But I believe that a good amount were never reported or known beyond the community like you said.

Commander?’

‘It’s great that you’re so enthusiastic about helping people.’You give a smile to the girl, gesturing her to step forward. ‘Have you tried applying for personnel?’

‘No.’ She doesn’t fall for it – you don’t expect her to; with the crowd at her back she must feel like the Queen of the World.

You step out from behind the makeshift table, to Tenryuu’s warning touch, which you push off. She grows uneasy, her eyes widening with fear as your slightly-less-than-full bulk moves before her – some of the crowd move away, some of them are flanked on either side of her.

‘Yet you’re calling the people who are going around helping you… what was that? Names? Insults?’ You shake your head, looking thoroughly disappointed.

‘We just want – !’

‘No, it’s not we. It’s you.’

She opens her mouth to say something, but a step forward makes her close it again.

‘Since you’re so enthusiastic about this, I’m going to be frank with you, ma’am. I don’t have a vested interest in keeping you alive – I have a responsibility to kill Abyssals, as does she.’ You nod to Tenryuu. ‘Our mission is to bring as many of them as we can to a watery grave every day,’ you take another step forward, flexing your mechanical fingers. ‘and every time we wake up we think of ways to kill more Abyssals and rinse and repeat. That’s all we do.’

She looks up at you, lips quivering.

‘We don’t feel. We don’t care. We don’t care about your sisters gut’s on the floor being chewed by an I-Class or your mother being dragged down that beach to Heaven-knows-where with them. According to you, we don’t.’

You throw a glance at the crowd.

YET.’ You call loudly, startling some of them, ‘Tenryuu here’s willing to stand with you folks, day by day, hour by hour, to make sure you get comfortable. She shouldn’t be bearing the responsibility. She’s just a KanMusu, isn’t she? A damn construct of war – what the Hell does that make you?’

You sound of shifting sand and rolling waves are the only things at your ears now.

‘If she can will herself to get out there and protect you and not even expect a thank you?’ You loom over the girl, feeling a little guilty for making her shrink so much – a little. ‘I know a KanMusu who’s willing to be spat on by you, lose her stomach, guts and intestines and still take a bullet in the same day meant for you. For any of you.’

You growl at the crowd.

‘Now, you tell me. Does that sound like number crunching to you?’

You ease yourself, gesturing with your hand.

‘Everyone will have their turn. Everyone.’ You meet her stare. ‘Welcome to the war, ma’am.’

She opens her mouth to say something, but spits at your feet, running away. The rest of the crowd shuffles silently back into a line, mumbling.

‘Now, does anyone else think that they’re more important than the next man in line?’

No one says a word as the line reforms. The next person in line, a stout young man gives you a glance of curiosity before going to the table, asking Tenryuu for supplies. Tenryuu discusses with him for a while – a good five minutes, in fact. You look to the line to see people occasionally throwing you suspicious, curious or puzzled glances, before you move back behind the makeshift counter to a busy Tenryuu.

‘Not bad, Commander.’ She throws you an honest, kind smile. ‘You do that for all KanMusu whose pants you want to get into?’

‘Give me some credit, Tenryuu.’ You roll your eyes, smiling back as you lift up a box of vegetables and flour, handing it over to the next person, who leaves wordlessly with but a nod.

‘I am.’ Tenryuu gives your bottom a good slap – you wonder if you could pull rank on her for insubordination, but with her years, you reckon you wouldn’t make it far. ‘I just find it hard to believe that you’d be the type to be bold and loud.’ She puts her hands on her hips, smirking. ‘Most of the time I talk with you, it’s… it feels like you’re a little hesitant on the deta – !’ Tenryuu spills some contents onto the counter, cursing as she looks to the small man who is now at the head of the line. ‘Sorry!’

‘It’s okay.’ He raises a hand timidly, bowing to the both of you and leaving with his box. ‘Thank you.’

Tenryuu looks a little flabbergasted. You yourself find a smug expression creep upon your features until you frown at the assorted stacks behind you – there was quite a bit for people to manage.

‘How many of these get shipped here a day anyway?’

‘Transported.’ Tenryuu corrects, talking with the next person in line before turning back to you. ‘And about five trucks a week – which is barely enough.’

‘Anything we can do about it?’ You lean against the crate, frowning.‘Other than what we already have, I mean?’

‘Unless you’re sitting on a mountain of gold somewhere, nothing’s going to help.’ Tenryuu grunts as she pulls a box full of pipes and wrenches, handing it over to the man over the counter, who nods in return. ‘From what I heard, the attack’s been a Hell of a knock on the country’s purse.’ She sighs, grimacing as she turns to you, gesturing for the line to move along. ‘Most coastal towns and cities are being deserted – they just can’t take anymore of it.’

You un-cross your arms, pressing your palms to the counter’s edge.

‘So it’s either push back the Abyssals permanently or we’re probably going to see more of…’

‘I don’t think I wanna think about it.’

You can only agree.

After some small talk with Tenryuu, you elect to leave her as soon as she let go. She tosses you some bananas and apples for your lunch, which you don’t complain as you make you wolf them down, making you way to up the steps again. You see a few of the maintenance crew taking a break, sipping some imported beer – the brief words that the old man had when you’d reunited with you had implied that while supplies were hard to come by, apparently a bottle of alcohol had been easier to sneak past the transport checkpoints and into the hands of the crew and the remaining denizens of the town.

‘Hey, it’s the Commander, eh?’ One of the crew members, a man with a handlebar mustache, raises a beer in toast to you – to whatever toast it had to do with you, anyway – he was probably halfway drunk right now. In mid-day. ‘Heard you pulled off your first mission last night! Kick ass, eh?’

The rest of them raise their bottles to you and you, embarrassed, give them a salute and a nod – to which they give their own mocking return, winking at you and giving each other bumps on the shoulder. You spy a buggy zooming on the tarmac – you notice there’s a small stretch now applied, amazing how fast things were getting done here – and raise a thumb to hail it down. The buggy driver isn’t the old man, and he has a mix of characters in the back.

‘Mind if I grab a ride to the Commercial District?’ You lean on the buggy door. ‘I got some business there.’

‘Sure, Commander – mind if I drop these guys off at the MASH mess first, though?’

‘Not at all.’ You give the men in the back seat a nod of acknowledgment and climb in the back with them, apologizing for the space you took.

The buggy driver isn’t fast – in fact, he’s a little hesitant on the wheel. You reason that he must be a newbie or someone just put on the shift. The men in the seats next to you are a quiet bunch – either they were intimidated by you or were just too caught up not to strike a conversation with you or each other. You wave them off once you reach the infirmary – and they give their own salutes to you as you drop yourself into the passenger seat.

It’s about fifteen minutes later when you finally reach the Commercial District.

The first thing you notice is the fairies twirling about, the blissfully unaware workers and crew members chatting and working, clearing the rubble and working with the paint. They’re helping, somehow, restoring the blocks brick by brick with their magic as the men – the former gang laugh and shove each other jokingly, calling each other out as you zoom past them into the plaza.

You drop out onto the plaza to see a dozen men raise their arms to your arrival.

‘Hey, Boss!’ The men greet.

Fingers waves to you, dropping onto the pavement from a floor up impressively.

‘Hey, Boss.’ Fingers waltzes up to you, grinning like a loon. His good mood is infectious, and before long you’re smiling too, holding out a hand for him to shake. He chuckles, pufing his chest and putting his hands on his hips. ‘What’re ya doin’ here?’

‘Just checking with the men.’ You reply, giving the place a once-over. It looked like a lot of work was definitely starting out. ‘Mind if I have a look around?’

‘Eh, be my guest.’ He gestures to the gang members – former gang members – littered around and working their shifts, lifting bricks and mortar, oblivious to the fairies working around them in tandem. ‘If there’s anything ya need, I’ll be aroun – ! Hey, what the Hell, you guys?! That one goes there – that one goes there! GOT IT?!’

Fingers runs off to the building he’d leapt off from, howling commands at several men in torn and dirty uniforms – they’d taken their own steps at customizing their issued gear, some of them even having their favorite bands and singers stitched on the back. None of them obstructed the symbol of the Admiralty on their chest, though – and ragged as it was, that made you feel like you’d accomplished a little thing in making them at least respect the symbol.

You wander around, occasionally giving a wave and a salute to a few of the more eager crew members. As you make your way past them, you see that there’s quite a bit for you to work with – and on.

‘Man, this is tough work.’ A particularly large gang member calls out, hauling a big slab of concrete.

‘Haulin’ this place all pretty – didn’t think it’d come ta this, eh?’ One of his comrades cackles loudly, gesturing to his back.

‘Can it.’Another one of them brings out a sack, dumping it onto a refuse pile. ‘At least we’re gettin’ some a’ the good stuff now.’ He sighs roughly. ‘Beats goin’ fer scraps.’

‘What the Hell do I do with this, man?!’ One cries out.

‘It’s called a broom, yuckster!’ His friend rolls his eyes.

‘Yeah, but what am I supposed ta do with it?’ He looks indignant, dropping the item to the floor.‘I ain’t no maid!’

‘Hey, ya either work or ya don’t eat, lardy!’

‘Who ya callin’ lardy?!’ He shakes his fist at his comrade, crossing his arms petulantly. ‘I thought we were doin’ military stuff! Not this high school Saturday bull!’

You give a small chuckle, approaching them. It doesn’t take long for you

‘Just pick up those rocks if you’re not gonna sw – BOSS!’

They immediately and impressively fall into rank, stiffening and saluting.

‘How’re you guys doing?’

‘Uh, um… we’re good. Hey, sorry about yer…’ One of them points to his eye.

‘No problem.’ You give them a smile.

‘I give up. I ain’t any good with this, man.’ He blinks. ‘Boss?’

You observe the broom on the floor to the debris by the pavement.

‘Hey, Boss, whatcha doin’?’ The fattest of them scratches the top of his head, watching you take the broom up. ‘Checkin’ them brooms?’

‘Sweeping.’ You answer swiftly, looking around – there was no particular refuse pile for the smaller, more fine pebbles you looked to sweep away. You turn to one of the skinnier crew members, frowning. ‘Which way?’

‘What way?’ He looks around, confused by your question.

‘Which way am I sweeping?’ You say stiffly – it was a simple enough ask on your part, you consider – and he points to a broken lamp post – randomly, you decided on his part… but it’s good enough.

It’s about three minutes when the burliest of them starts guffawing. It’s five minutes when he starts letting out a huge chuckle, and about thirty seconds after trying to hold in his full laughter that he finally lets it out, much to your confusion. You wonder just what he was laughing at.

‘Hey, what’re ya laughing at, chummy?’ The fat one smacks the back of his friend, glaring.

‘Nothin’! But Boss!’ He points at you. ‘Look at ‘im!’

You cross your arms, raising an eyebrow at him. He looks apologetic immediately.

‘Isn’t that kinda… ladies work?’ He offers – the others snicker a little, too, at this.‘I mean… grandma work.’

You’re too used to the laughter to care, you find. You didn’t care much for it.

‘I used to be a chef – a cook, you know.’ You clear a throat, pointing to some of the other men in the other sections, working their jobs. ‘What I learned on my shifts is that you can’t start work without a clean kitchen; I didn’t like my job or did I like the people I worked with.’ You smile, nodding confidently at them. ‘But a principle you gotta live by,’ you toss a rock into the refuse pile. ‘is that no job’s too low for me to work if it’ll help with the cause. Right now I’ve got some free time.’

‘And it’d be incredibly shitty of me as your boss to leave the dirty work to you guys.’ You say seriously. ‘I’m not sure if I’m what you guys are looking for or what you wanna follow – maybe Fingers’ll be a better roll for you.’ ‘But what this is is… a broom that doesn’t have an owner in a work yard.’

You go on, bringing them to attention, holding them up for your so-called underlings to see.

‘So a broom that doesn’t have an owner means that there’s work to be done.’ You finish, turning away. ‘It’s not much, but if I can help a little, it should free you guys up for those man jobs, am I right?’

They laugh nervously, with you gesturing to the cement blocks that need removal.

‘Appreciated, Boss.’ One of them salutes.

It isn't long before a cry goes out.

‘COME ON, MAN, IT AIN’T THAT BIG!’

They gesture to a particularly large cement block.

‘Um, Boss, think you can help here?’

So I think we should get a good idea of what we're going to do for the remaining two time slots. Personally I think we should go find Nachi to try and remedy some of the hostility between her and the Commander, as well as maybe do some bragging about how we took over the gang. Things we need to do:
-Thank Kaga for coming to our rescue and appologize for forcing her to go though her terrifying trauma so we could use it as a weapon against the princess.
-Meet with Samidare and Murakumo and address their concerns. Tenryuu told us they were extremely worried about what happened to us. As we'd be seeing both for the same reason we could probably combine the two by asking our attendants set up a meeting with them.
-Check on Houshou to see how she's doing after that hellish first mission back. Make sure she doesn't blame herself for not noticing a princess slipping such a powerful imprint into the stream. Inform her of our new culinary pursuit, ask if she'd be willing to help, and see if there is anything besides the salt she recommends we procure in preparation.
-Drag [insert girl here] to the gym with us.

Huh, you know I think putting her in the role of 'motivational non-com' is an excellent idea. Everyone else just prods us to workout. Nachi might actually be able to force us to do so.

She'd probably also be thrilled with the opportunity to manhandle her superior officer and be able to legitimately claim that its for our own good.

You curiously regard the slab, walking over to it and flexing your prosthetic’s fingers as you regard it. It’s a broken piece of a wall from one of the buildings you notice, the metal bars and the like sticking out from its edges. You run your hand smoothly over it, mentally counting down, looking to your right arm with a hum, wondering if you could possibly answer a few questions in this one moment.

You cock your arm back… and smash it into the slab.

A dull thud is all that is heard as the slab doesn’t even budge – you pull back your arm, wincing as you feel a throbbing sensation in your elbow joint. You’re reminded that there’s still a little bit of human underneath that husk, even if it’s hard to recognize – protective and intimidating as it is. You let out a grunt as your so-called underlings look to you in confusion, wondering just why’d you done that.

Boss, what’d you do that for?’ One of them raises an eyebrow while the others look to each other.

‘Testing something.’ You chuckle, letting out a breath – it looked like you weren’t able to shatter walls like the robots from those old movies just yet; not that you’d always wanted to, but it would have been cool to have had that option with your arm.

‘Kinda stupid, don’tcha think?’ The shortest of them looks to you with an accusing look.

‘I’m aware.’ You laugh, gesturing the rest of them to come over and help with the slab. ‘Come on, maybe we can roll it over or something.’

The five of them head for the slab, making sure no one was on the other side as they pushed. No such luck, however, and it’s not long before the six of you are resting against it, waving away curious passers-by from your failure. You get up with a grunt, pinching the bridge of your nose as you decide to just do what you can – that slab wasn’t going to be moving anywhere at this rate.

‘All right, that’s not budging.’ You admit, turning to the item with an impressed look – this was one stubborn slab of concrete. You declare, ‘This is one stubborn slab of concrete.’

Your men nod at you, moving to the smaller pieces of debris and moving them aside first. You sigh, giving it a good kick for good measure and wincing once more as you feel a sharp sensation in your big toe. You hobble towards your broom and scoop, mumbling curses.

‘Let’s just clear up what we can.’ You call out, to affirmative nods. ‘I think I hurt something.’

‘How does that arm work?’ The fattest of the lot, giving it a good once-over.

‘Magic.’ You answer with a wink – he nods enthusiastically, giving a thumbs-up.

You have a decent conversation with the others as you set about working again.

You give a goodbye to your men and Fingers, making your way to the streets after your work was done. There wouldn’t be a buggy coming here, you reckon, so you start your trek back to the main road. Along the way your underlings give you salutes and well-mannered fist-pumps. Your mind wanders slightly as you see the fairies zoom past you, unknowingly assisting the former gang members and their efforts at making the plaza, at least, a working place again as it was before.

It’s a lot more chaotic here, a lot more dirty, rough and damaged compared to the rest of the city.

Oddly enough, it reminded you of Nachi. You wonder just where she could be – it’d been only a day since you’d last seen her, but you felt that you hadn’t made much of a chore in trying to talk with her. The last time you remembered having a proper one-to-one conversation with her had been almost two weeks ago, when you’d had a knock to your teeth thanks to her fisticuffs.

You bring a hand to your cheek, wincing at the memory. It hadn’t been one you’d cared to actually remember.

You frown as you realize, upon further thought, that you remembered that of all the names on the list of double duty pullers, Nachi’s name hadn’t been put up at all. Even Takao had put herself down for the calibration and attunement of her weaponry… Nachi’s task? Nachi’s duties didn’t ring a bell to you – you give your shoulders a good roll. Maybe the roster back at the barracks could give you a better look – but you don’t remember her name being on there either.

Thinking that you might as well check at the barracks – and in the event that you couldn’t find out where she could be, the attendants would, anyway – you begin the journey in the afternoon sun, walking past a particularly deserted pathway back. The streets around this part of town are deserted, with but a few seagulls and the occasional crow for company. You follow an unfamiliar path onto a familiar beat.

It’s about an hour and some change that you end up at the barracks, which you realize are as deserted as the streets from before. You reach for the door, finding it locked again. You reach for your key in the back pocket, grimacing as you realize you’d considered turning yourself into a battering ram for the second time in less than a day.

You walk through the corridor, patchy as it is to see that there is still no one.

That is, until a cry of frustration that is clearly Nachi’s comes from upstairs. You frown, and against your better judgment, walk up the stairs. Another cry goes out along with the sound of a clattering device… to the sound of more frustration. It’s coming from the bathroom.

Friggin’ Takao!’

Nachi steps out, buck naked, her teeth grit in anger.

‘Nachi?’ You frown – not quite surprised at the candidness of the nudity, but at the suddenness of her barging – so this is where she’d be on her off-days; you’d honestly expected her to be going around having a double life as a contract killer on the sly… though not quite seriously. ‘What’s up?’

You try to deduce if there’s a line you can draw at being too candid or casual, but come up empty. Nachi’s nudity doesn’t catch you at all – you’d seen too much in the last 12 hours to give her a once over and you’d merely come around to check if she needed a good talking to or just a talk in general. You had certainly not expected for her to be barging out naked with her legs dripping in… soap?’

‘Oh.’ She turns to you, hand on her hips. You notice there’s a metallic stick in her hand of some sort. ‘Finally woke up?’

‘No, I… I just got back from helping out around town, really.’ You shake your head, trying to sound as casual as you can with her. There was no sense in getting a clock to the jaw this time. ‘Don’t you have double duty to pull, Nachi?’ You frown.

‘Huh.’ She wrinkles her nose… scanning you up and down, apparently ignoring your question.

She grabs your hand.

‘Come with me for a while.’

She drags you into the bathroom.

‘Nachi, what are you – WHOA.’

You enter the bathroom to see a surprising and horrible mess of things. Everywhere you see what looks like shaving foam on the walls and on the bathroom counter, all the way to the toilet stalls on the end. The floor is littered with cans and brushes of assorting make and you even see a few books lying around, looking as thought they’d toppled from a stacked pile onto a stool. It looked chaotic, to say the least. There were soap prints everywhere, too, and you wince as you see several packs of razor blades dangerously scattered on the floor.

You wonder just what’d happened here when Nachi finally releases you. She picks up one of the books on the floor – no, two of the books on the floor – and makes her way to the counter, the squeaking sound of her raw bottom sliding across it reaching your ears. You are the picture of confusion, puzzled at the current development between you and your most volatile – or second most volatile – subordinate, but there isn’t much to build on as she grunts and props her feet up as well, raising them off the floor and looking at you with a reluctant stare.

You have half a mind to tell her to get down from there, but find yourself speechless as she shockingly spreads herself, her cheeks red, looking away.

Could you shave me, please?’

‘Shave your what?’ You blink, clumsily catching the blade – that which had been that stick she’d been holding – that she’d thrown into your hands. Far from you to assume things, you look from Nachi’s pelvic region to her face, confused at the sudden request. You really did not know where she was taking this. ‘Nachi, what in the world are you telling me to do here?’

‘Do I have to spell it out for you?’ Nachi hisses at you, but you don’t feel the least bit intimidated; especially not when she’s naked on the counter with everything the sun shone on and didn’t see was there for you to scrutinize and smirk at – even if you were a little clueless to the proceedings.

‘Generally, that is the kind of thing you do for the people whose help you ask for, right?’ You frown at her, crossing your arms, nicking your flesh with the blade – it was sharp, you’ll give that much.

Nachi doesn’t close her legs at all; it’s amazing how she resembled a trapped panther and a she-wolf in heat in that one moment, scrunching her mouth as she looks right up at you. This was the Nachi you knew – buck-naked or no, she didn’t like being put in a passive position – even if she was in the mother of all passive positions right now.

‘Why I oughta – I have my vagina spread for you and you have a razor in your hands!’ You giggle almost childishly – she’d said vagina, after all – gesturing to her core, snapping right at you. ‘What do you think I’m expecting you to do?’

You concoct an evil – and ill-advised – plan, approaching Nachi’s admittedly messy front with the blade and pressing down. She eases at the contact, and you narrow your target, letting the cool hilt of the utensil touch her folds. She visibly stiffens at the touch, a panicky look coming over her eyes.

‘Hey, that’s not – !’

You almost lazily prod her entrance, smirking up at her. She doesn’t look the least bit amused.

‘I have taken shrapnel to the face.’ She declares, hissing at you to dare to continue. ‘I can handle a stick in my crotch.’

You sigh, pulling out the handle. There was no point to this.

‘What do you want me to do, Nachi?’ You slump your shoulders, getting a little impatient.

I need you to shave me.’ She sighs herself. ‘My hair. Down there.’

‘Can’t do it yourself?’ You chuckle.

She bites her lip, looking away.

‘My sisters used to do it for me.’ She admits reluctantly. ‘I… I never caught on to the whole beauty thing and…’ She hisses out, glaring at you again. ‘look, it’s just getting a little bushy, all right? I’d really appreciate it if you can help me with this.’

‘And you trust me with this?’

Her gaze softens, albeit slightly.

‘You're my Commander.’

‘If you think it’s a good idea,’ you slump your shoulders, grabbing a can of the cream and spraying it all over your hands. Nachi looks apprehensive at the action – and the subsequent slap on her privates, spreading the cool liquid all around her area and giving her a defeated sigh and half-smile, rubbing it all around. ‘Why not?’

She hisses as your digits hook onto something.

‘Your thumbs are in my vagina.’ Nachi grunts, pouting at you in discomfort. ‘I can shout rape you know.’

‘Well, forgive me – this is my first time actually doing this for a girl.’ You roll your eyes, finally feeling the prickly pins of her hair upon your flesh. ‘You’re surprisingly okay enough – it’s not like you have a jungle down there.’

‘To you, maybe.’ She takes up one of the books, humming as she picks out a page and begins reading. ‘I may not be human, but I know enough that you let your backs turn into forests without proper tending to.’

‘Am I supposed to take offense to that?’ You frown, looking up from her messily-grazed pelvis.

‘Depends.’ She moves her book away, smirking down at you. ‘Do you have a back that can be classified as a wildlife habitat?’

‘I believe that is a jibe.’ You put a finger into her – coated with the cool foam, making her squirm slightly and suddenly, dropping her book into the sink.

‘Hey!’ She giggles, playfully slapping the top of your head. ‘Stop playing with my vagina!’

‘I’ll stop playing with it when you stop taking pot shots at me.’ You snicker, hooking your finger inside as she bares her fangs in a deadly smile.‘Do we have a deal?’

‘Shrapnel to the face, Command – !’

You follow through with a knuckle, to which she squirms even more.

‘All right,’ She holds out a hand for you to shake, which you do in good humor. ‘truce. Now get your fingers out. I think I’m getting a little too aroused for my own good.’ She grimaces – you can feel the warmth around your knuckle, embarrassingly complying with the command soon after. Your thumb brushes against the folds as you pull out of her winking entrance. ‘I swear if you flick my clitoris I will kick you.’

‘Can you stop talking about your genitals for one second?’ You frown, lifting our glistening finger.

‘They’re two inches away from you!’ She puts her book down again. ‘You can give it a good lick for all I care! I just want the hair gone!’

You bring the blade to its target and give her a nod. She bites her lip, bringing up her book with trembling shoulders.

‘You’ve done it for yourself, right?’ She hesitantly asks.

‘No, not really – but I have shaved before, though.’ You admit – how hard could it be?

‘Try not to kill me.’

You get to work.

‘So what brought this on?’ You bring the blade to her lower abdomen, beginning with the first of many swipes.

‘What brought what on?’ Nachi squirms slightly as you drag your blade against her skin.

‘This?’ You raise an eyebrow, pushing down on her core to get a better feel for your next angle, pressing onto something underneath the foam as you dragged the blade again. ‘Why the urge to… you know? Shave.’

Nachi doesn’t reply, still nose-deep in her book.

‘Are you spreading my vagina?’ Nachi accuses with a smirk. ‘If you wanna have a good look, just do it.’ She brings her hand to the foam-covered area of her privates, revealing her folds amidst the white substance. ‘You’re down there anyway.’

‘I’m not doing it on purpose.’ You shoot back, hooking your thumb for good measure – she jiggles slightly from the sudden intrusion, but you proved your point. ‘This is my first time actually doing this for a girl, believe it or not.’ You frown, getting back to your work. ‘And you’re unusually… giddy.’

‘Oh, I am.’ She smirks in a predatory manner, sounding a lot like a Madame on her pedestal, if there was any appropriate comparison.‘Seeing you squirm gets me off something bad.’

Not the best choice of words, Nachi.’ You’re about a third of the way with the next drag – some of the hair gets into your mouth – and you spit it out.

‘You can have a look for yourself.’ She winks at you down there, as though she was breathing. ‘I’m a friggin’ dam with cracks.’

‘You are a sick, sick woman.’ You say without looking up.

‘You in your discomfort zone is my fetish. What can I say?’ Her voice gets a little rougher. ‘I can feel the blade. I think you’re digging too deep.’ You ease yourself, shaving off a little more with another swipe. ‘Don’t go diagonal, you might cut me.’

There’s a little bit of quiet for the next two minutes, when she puts down the book and grimaces down at you.

‘Takao said she could see some hair sticking out of my panties.’ She groans, a little bit uneasy at the reveal. You don’t think it’s much to say yourself. ‘It hurt something bad for her to say that.’ She clicks her tongue, looking away. ‘Cheerleader.’

You shrug, not quite knowing how to reply to that.

‘I owe you for this.’ She looks thoughtful – it was nice for Nachi to think so, even if you didn’t consider it any more than an intimate favor. ‘Maybe I’ll just let you pee down my throat or something.’

You almost cut your own thumb off.

‘Takao told me.’ Nachi smirks menacingly.

‘She’s exaggerating.’

‘Uh-huh.’

‘So, you’re going to tell me about anything that’s bothering you?’ You shave away a few more strands, making careful movements so not to hurt her – too much, anyway.

‘I don’t think I’m comfortable enough with you to tell you what’s on my mind just yet.’ She says with a chuckle, looking down from her book.

‘Even when it concerns me?’ Your tone’s accusatory, but you don’t other to hide it; it was time for you to put things on the table, after all.

‘What’re you getting at?’ She raises an eyebrow at you – the shift of her your hands tells you that she is indeed getting agitated as well.

‘The fact that you think my Quickening is dangerous.’

You flick away the foam and hair on the knife, moving to full height. Nachi puts down her book, closing her legs with a wet squishy sound of the foam reaching your ears as she does. She doesn’t look the least bit apologetic, raising a challenging gaze to you. She's definitely recalling the MASH conversation now.

‘Mind enlightening me on that?’

‘I don’t think you understand, sir.’ Nachi shifts in her sea. ‘A Quickening is dangerous.’ She raises a finger at you. ‘It’s one of the most deadly abnormalities for a Commander to have.’ She moves her neck, sighing. ‘Do you even know how much?’

‘I know you’re afraid of my Stream.’

‘No.’ She spreads her legs again, gesturing you to get back to your task – somehow, you do, crouching down. ‘I just don’t like it.’ She emphasizes. ‘It’s a little too uncomfortable for my liking – you’re too volatile, too prone – do you know what most Commanders, Vice-Admirals and Admiral operate on? Complete and utter serenity.’

‘That’s not the basis you went on for your argument.’ You say neutrally.

‘All right – hey, you’re still shaving, watch the clit, will you?’ She breathes out. ‘You’re messier than a trainee in there. You might not feel it, but for us… and especially because you have a Quickening… we have a right to be scared, even if we don’t have a right to much else.’

You grimace at that.

‘The point of the Stream is for you to be a stable reference for us in battle – any doubt, any resonance… and especially with a Quickening, it’s a much higher risk for you to operate.’ Nachi raises tips your chin up, looking at you seriously. ‘That’s me speaking as someone who’s seen it happen before.’

‘How can a Quickening be so dangerous?’ You’re genuinely curious now; you shake off another third of her hair, feeling a little proud despite the grim topic.

‘Because it can drive KanMusu insane enough to wipe out towns, that’s why.’ She says with a finality.

Nachi goes back to her book. You keep quiet as you drag your blade across her skin, relieving her of the excess bush.

‘You’re done.’ You give her a good pat.

‘Thanks.’ Nachi sighs, closing her legs. ‘I appreciate it, really.’

‘You’re welcome.’ You reply honestly, reaching for the hand soap.

‘Wait.’ She says suddenly, frowning as she looks between her legs. ‘Is it supposed to… itch?’

‘I’m not sure.’ You really weren’t, but as far as you knew, when you had shaved before it didn’t particularly itch after. ‘Hang on.’

‘My sister usually puts something on me after she’s done.’ Nachi mentions, spreading her legs again, biting her lip. ‘It was some kind of gel. I think it’s from one of those other bottles.’

‘Aftershave?’ You offer.

‘It’s what you use, right?’ She questions you.

‘Hair’s hair, I guess.’

You rub the oil over your hands and look to apply it to Nachi…

‘You know, I still think you’re trying to finger me something bad. What’s stopping you?’

‘Professional courtesy.’ Is your reply.

When you underestimate its viscosity and find a digit embarrassingly shoved inside her.

‘You’re doing this on purpose; I swear.’ Nachi laughs, the sound echoing through the bathroom – you’re indignant as you pull out your moist finger; she’s red, but you can’t tell whether it’s from arousal or from your latest attempt.

‘I am not.’ You hiss, glaring up at her. For some reason you find a little mirth coming over you, fighting down a giggle as you try to hold your aggressive gaze with her. As with all else, it crumbles at the ‘You’re the one who’s moving all over the place.’

‘How do you confuse dabbing a little oil and shoving it into my vagina?’ Nachi howls, her shoulders shaking at the sheer audacity of the situation – here here she was, and here you were, somewhere between some kind of sick slapstick joke and arousal – fighting back laughter.

‘Can you stop saying vagina, please?!’ You regain your composure, but your smile isn’t quite put down.

Va-gi-na.’ She says in a sing-song voice – you swear that even her entrance is winking at you in a manner most teasing… and enticing, but you keep it down somewhat, somehow.

‘I will finger you for real, I swear to Heaven.’ You point a finger at her; Nachi looks at you, raising an eyebrow at your threat.

The both of you practically clutch your sides, howling mad at the absurdity of the situation. Here you both were, two immature idiots fighting a war, settled in a bathroom arguing over the usage of genital references and threat of oral stimulation while toiletries and the like littered around you like used bullet shells in a manner most chaotic. It was just so… nonsensical.

It isn’t long until the both of you get back on track, although you throw her the occasional smirk and glance, and she does the same.

With the oil applied… you are both done.

‘So, what do I owe you, Mr Barber?’ She chuckles, smiling at you.

Kaga and Houshou's fault. They can't keep their traps shut when it comes to their exploits. Also, maybe Takao's fault and Nagato's fault.

Actually, though, if you want to go by the blame game, it's:

Houshou's kink > Nagato's curiosity and Takao's willingness as per pastebin > Kaga's gossip which fuels the fire > Takao and her obliviousness

It's not the Commander's fault things get lost in translation

The fact that you're canonizing a big development in our character like that without reader guidance and based on a scene that you consider too kinky for the readership to accept is not good. You're making significant changes to our character and the perception of him off-screen and then informing us that not only can we not do anything about it, but we also shouldn't expect anything but more of the same in the future.

Feels railroaded. Very aggravating.

In short, I want the damn pastbin already, because I am pretty fucking sure I have seen weirder stuff on sadpanda

I'm just deliberating if I want to share it or not. I'm not railroading shit. Of course the world is going to react. If you didn't want this to happen the bunch of you should have just left when Kaga was getting all touchy-feely on you. Actions have consequences. Things you do have consequences. The world is living and breathing and has its own thing.

And fuck off on it being a big development. It's just some toilet humor that'll get tossed around. It has no bearing on the story. What the fuck is wrong with you that you think a joke about a kink being spread around is going to help you save the world or kill your team or get kicked out of the Admiralty?

It's a throwaway joke. That's all it is. Stop thinking every damn pebble is something that needs to be turned. The more you're trying to get to force me to share the pastebin and the more shit you accuse me of having it be, the less likely I'll throw it out there.

I'm less inclined to share it now and just throw references to it now and again as an unseen incident because of you guys getting on my back on it.
>>
>>301672
I think the bigger issue here is that we had absolutely zero control over the events that transpired. It's a quest, when something that defines our character happens, there should be some player-input at least.
>>
>>301663
Much more irritated by the railroading part, honestly. Doing in secret didn't help, but it's not my primary grief.

I would be completely fine with the unpublished pastebin being non-cannon (nicely sidestepping the issue) and moving on from there.

ok dont worry, just felt like we should know what happen, thats all

‘Surprise me.’ You offer with a chuckle.

‘You really shouldn’t say that you know.’ Nachi moves up to you, putting your arms around your neck and throwing you a look like a viper would the laying dead. ‘I might actually take you up on it.’

‘As long as it’s not a slug to the jaw I think I can be up for anything.’ You laugh slightly, hands at your side. ‘What do you have in mind?’

‘Cashing in already?’ She raises an eyebrow.

‘No, but I’d like to be prepared for anything you’d have a hand in.’ ‘I’ve seen your record. I believe you’re still on the roll for a few indictments; correct me if I’m wrong.’

‘Why you’re a lot more sly than I remember.’ ‘I guess what they say is true.’

She runs a hand over your eyepatch – the eye under it closes from the touch – and traces it to the bottom of your chin, softly raking a finger to the tip.

‘What?’

‘There’s a legend out there, you know, I don’t know how it is in your world, but… there was a God – a Titan named Odin, in a time long past.’ She gales, pressing her forehead to yours. ‘But in an age of Gods, what is one more – he might as well have been a man – a wanderer, aimless and desperate, such as yourself. Maybe even a little bit portly, you never could tell with the myths.’ She mischievously giggles. ‘Maybe he was once just down on his luck, a cook from a raiding party, abandoned to his own wits and the mercy of the snow and the winds – maybe a rich man’s son cast out from a frolick too far.’

But Nachi doesn’t sound any less dangerous.

‘He saw that the world held riches, secrets – and sought seek them all, and so he delved and delved, like none had come before, to seek the one thing that eluded him – to understand the secrets of the world.’ ‘To that he went to the roots of the World, where he was granted his wish for a price.’

She taps your lips with a finger.

‘So, dear Odin paid a price he was glad to pay.’ She sings. ‘And he understood the root of his Quest and stood – a little taller, a little braver… and so the wiser. With his two wolves, two ravens his spear and his steed he ruled his realm – and knew what it was to be.’

‘And that would be?’

‘That wisdom always comes with experience.’ Nachi chuckles enigmatically, bringing her face close to yours – you can feel her breath on your lips, warm and inviting. ‘In suffering, in joy, in loss. He may have lost his eye, but he learned a lesson that none would forget – and for it, became King.’

She pulls away from you, her eyes narrowed and her smile thin.

‘What was the lesson?’

‘If I tell you… you’ll never learn.’ She whispers softly into your ear. ‘So suffer, Odin.’

She leaves, and you’re not sure if you want to like her too much.

Kaga.

It's a sex scene with little to no bearing on the story besides a little fact about Nagato which will get asked later anyway. I didn't see any of you guys complaining when I wrote the Kaga/Houshou threesome out with no input from you guys at all. Where was the complaining there?

One throwaway joke about an incident involving piss and suddenly everyone's trying to accuse me of railroading it. Do you know what Bill Watterson did with Noodles? Come up with your own conclusions to what happened. All there is, because of you shitty accusations right now are going to be vague references to it.

Kindly leave if you don't like how it's gone. This quest has definitely not fit the criteria of enjoyment for you three if one throwaway joke with some references gets your panties in a bunch.
>>
>>301738
Fair enough. If it doesn't have any bearing on anything then it's no big deal. I was reading too much into it.
>>
>>301738
im not complaing i just wanna know if there is something that might be important that we might mised there, if you dont wanna post it that A-ok for me, just saing for the roleplay side of things
>>

>Look/Seek out a KanMusu (Kaga)
>>
>>301714
You don't have to. This Quest is clearly not for you. And you're not giving me critique.

You guys are just pegging me to post the sex scene.

So fuck you on that.

Real criticism would be e.g. how you notice that the characters in Thread 2 and Thread 11 have differering opinions to how they were and how inconsistent it was and I'd read through on it. Or how you point out "Why is the Admiral suddenly on our side when he was so against it on day 2" or something of that ilk.

Or how the fight scenes are just too easy and you guys want a difficulty bump or how some of the rolls/saves are too complicated and the rules aren't clearly stated.

This Quest clearly isn't for you, and I won't force you to stay. I hope you can find a Quest that you can truly enjoy. I'll be losing a Quester, which is a bad turn, but I can't please everyone. That's that.
>>
>>301708
Kinda curious, but since this vote was tied, how do you decide what to go with when that happens?
>>
>>301742
You don't have to patronize me. Just leave if you don't like things. If this Quest dies, it dies, but if you're going to interject on everything on a world that lives and breathes and doesn't just revolve around your choices alone but how the world reacts to it, I'd like to recommend you to something like Kant-O-Celle or Beleaguered Prince.

>>301744
At most it's an NC-17 scene where kinky shit happens. End of.

>>301745
Wouldn't your choices have better bearing on a place that doesn't railroad? You are clearly not enjoying yourself here. Don't for yourself to stay. I clearly am not up to the standard of writing you're expecting of me.
>>
>>301763
I do coin flips IRL as per the suggestion from several threads back after 35 minutes or a refresh at the 40 minute mark for a last second check on vote tallies.

Now you're just being hostile to your players. I didn't patronize you, I was trying to apologize for making assumptions. So I'll try again. Sorry.

See, your assertion that it was throwaway is very different to what I perceived you to be saying earlier in
>>301551
Where it looked like you were doubling down on the impact the pastebin had on our intersocial relationships in a rather broad way. You will notice that is the post I responded to so negatively in the place.

If is truly just a joke then I'm ok with it.
>>
>>301787
Apology accepted. I'm sorry for my hostility, too. But I've already explained how this world works and how the mechanics of the game work. The only time the railroading accusation had bearing to it was:

1. Briefing Lateness in Thread 3
2. I explained Commander's moving through Scene Transitions/Slides instead of having total control over the scenes. Plus, I was the one pushing you guys drop the touchy feely with Kaga because you were really not going to get out of it alive.

So I apologize if I am overtly hostile in my explanation.

If you'd like the Pastebin, all you have to do is say please and I'll type it out proper and link it here. I don't like veiled jibes and demands. If you want it, just say please and I'll have it up proper for you to do...

Whatever with it.
>>
lets just drop the drama and get on with the quest
>>
>>301802
The only REALLY important thing you find out is that you're not Nagato's first rodeo. And that'll be pursued with later anyway in a future conversation.

It has no bearing on your current relationships because save for the Carriers, no KanMusu is actually into sex proper. I've already explained the envy that the other KanMusu have for Carriers with this.

If you guys just want to see the Pastebin and do whatever with it, all you have to do is ask and say please proper and I'll write it up.

so does this mean that the first guy nagato was with didnt meet the admirals approval?

seems like there was that byplay by them when they caught us comparing "battle scars"

is this also the reason why the admiral is ok with us since he respects nagato's decision making aside from that particular incident?

To be fair, it wasn't nearly as depraved as my runaway imagination was leading me to expect.

I never thought I would be able to say that I read a tastefully-written sex scene that included pissing.

Alright, first of all, thanks for actually posting this. Talk about /whoa/. Actually not that fappable, which I found a little weird.

But to give some critique, since you mentioned that earlier, I'd say that it feels like you totally purple prose all up in here. While evocative, you could have tossed out a good third or half of the repeated metaphors and things would have flowed much better.

I really loved the dichotomy between Nagato and Takao, though. I think the contrast between their experience and eagerness was my favorite part of the whole thing. Also at some point we need to get back at that cheeky bitch for taking advantage of her Commander in such a fashion. That just will not do.

Anyway, I hoped this helped. I don't think any of us will begrudge you a break, in any case.

I appreciate the feedback. I was trying to write it off as a mixture of bestial and emotional but it must have come off wrongly. I'll try to get better at that if I have the chance.

I have a question totally unrelated to the whole pastebin situation. Will we ever learn the identities of the girls who turned into the Aquarius abominations? I was thinking back to that mission and I remembered that they had been KanMusu who were exposed to something there.
