Welcome to Adventure Civ Medieval!

In this quest, you will help a medieval realm strive and grow as trouble arises and other nations work on their own agendas.

Last time, OP had several near-death experiences.


how to play:
1) choose a realm to play for. change your name to reflect your choice (ex: Bowtie Noble). Max 4 players per realm.
2)each turn, your realm has 2 actions. You can choose a cultural, technological, or immediate acion, plus one bonus action based on your realms' bonus action(if your realm has a bonus tech action, you can do any action one time per turn, plus a tech action).
3)discuss with your compatriots which actions you will take. Once you're done, reply to my recap anchor post with the recap of your actions.

-Blue Sunpeople, lazy, spa obsessed, worships only the sun, goofballs who are most likely not the most relevant
-Red Bowties, basically the medieval Europe faction, wears bowties to show place in society, NPC leader is immortal lich queen
-Green Treepeople, hippies and actual mysoginists, has elves, also the vikings pastiche

turn 10 end!
The elves are still trying to make the females happier while keeping the current system going. They instated a Head Maid status at the Grove, a female representative that serves the council. She mostly serves beverages.

The ratland chiefs felt a bit anxious after the initial invasion rush, when they realized they had pretty much no defense set up. They offered free housing and food to the mercenaries, so they'd move there, and they did.

The rats strike back! A large force of unusally disciplined rats marched on the unprotected, unscouted annexed ratlands. Elite cossacks and necromancers also showed up with their host of skeletons, making it clear this was no skirmish.

The mercenaries were first responders, and managed not to get taken by surprise. But the odds were still against them, and they were driven back after huge losses.

The population in the annexed ratlands either ran back to Elfland or got massacred by the rodents.

The best sun shamans organized cremation rituals like the ancient did, burning one of them alive to attain transcendence. Most shamans passed out before anything worthwhile could happen, their fire resistances spent. But after countless tries and pure devotion, They learned a new magic!

fire level 2: immolation
The caster emits a powerful flame from his entire body. Ill-advised indoors, for younger mages, and for clothes.

Local shamans sent a wagon of rice seeds to the bowties as a gift, and the knowledge of how to plant it. They were thanked, but the geography isn't optimal for rice plantations, so they have little use for it other than luxury.

There were some communications.
Shamans: "We apologize if our shaman ambassadors are a burden, we had not considered the legal implications. Should we recall him?
The Queen: "Thank you for your gift and continuous support. The presence of a wizard on Our land is not taken as an offense, do not feel concerned. However, I know your people teach magic freely. Shall the ambassador teach Our untainted people, We will not stop the Inquisition from doing what should be done."

Shamans: "Greetings, coastal lord. What is happening in the western lands?"
Warlod of the Coast: "Nothing. Times still hard. Shamans on the way. Peace."

The shamans came back from their "training" scarred, thin, and fit. They talk very little but very precisely, just like their "master". They're not going to the spas at all.

Shamans: "Greetings, Rat People. Can we learn more about you?"
Rat Contact: "Please help!! Rats attacked!! We have gold, want gold? Then help rats! please!"

The copper engineers built a short circuit of tracks going through their mines and farms. The great sea wall has been finished thanks to extra effort. Its southern portion, in the sun people's lands, is not yet finished.

The Queen's retinue has been given uniforms to be easily recognized and improve the logistics. The Guard imitated their ruler with their own emblems on their troops.

The rats have not been trying anything, but there has been reports of movement from their capital.

A few rats have been integrated into the kingdom, they make good servants and miners and seem content with their jobs, if not with their rulers.

This is the story we got so far out of Bowties in The Medieval Era.
Our Queen right off the bat laid down the law that we will not look for immortality or advanced magics that interfere with her power after we spent a few turns trying to study it, then had to spend a few more making her happy again. To the north of us is Rat Lands, those people are the age old enemies that we've faced since pretty much the dawn of time, and after we found out that they had guns we were all on board and fearful that one day we were going to get fucked in by gunpowder rat hordes.

In retaliation we built a wall, developed army formations and tactics specifically to combat guns, developed The Telescope for advanced scouting measures, developed uniforms to upgrade military organization, and finally we pressed out and conquered into Rat Territory and took our first few steps into pressing against the rat menace.

We have started to integrate the rats into our culture, and are welcoming them with wide arms as soon as they enter our fold, and from what we've managed to observe and study, they are creatures of human-like intelligence, but put a lot of their trust and obedience into things they fear rather than true loyalty and hierarchy like we do.

These creatures are mighty sad in their simple existence I must say. I'm hard pressed to imagine the common folk are any higher than slaves and oppressed masses that only follow the social order they currently live at because they've never seen anything better.

As Bowties, we are made to spread ourselves among these rat-kind and show them that value is to be held in our system rather than their own.

She's a lich now. We built a big wall along the coastline to protect in case she decides to attack one day.

The sun people have suffered and are still suffering from the plague. The spas have become contagion pits, and people mostly stay home in the evening nowadays.

A group of women learned in magic organized healthcare centers to try and save as many as possible, or at least keep them away from the rest. The classical shamans applauded their initiative and officially declared them shamans, making them the first female shamans under the Sun. They practice gentler versions of the classical shamans' meditations, but spend much more time helping the people.

A shaman was toying around in an iron tub with sails, claiming he could fly. Nobody believed him until eventually he managed to lift his balloon off!
it can only host one shaman, anyone else would be burned. Also, as the inventor demonstrated, the longer the flight, the more likely it is for the contraption's ropes to burn.

Communications:
-The ambassador was told not to teach magic. He obeyed.

The plague has hit the bowtie population the least of all, thanks to their care for their appearance and medicine progress.
However, the Queen ordered a great culling from her inquisition. The inquisition purged anyone susceptible of being a vector of illness, be it bowtie, rat, or sun person. The plague is contained for now.

The mine business has greatly expanded thanks to the rats' physical abilities, and they are prized workers for all fringe lords. Their wealth has improved and the rat population has spread.

The wall of the south was being worked on, but the inquisition called all workers back home to prevent contagion. Most of them were purged. Their wall building is on hold.

The rats have built defensive positions around the invaded territories. It seems clear that they have no intention of attacking.

changes the target's body structure at will. Must be in skin contact with the target. Blood is needed for additional body mass. Speed of process depends on magical abilities, but it is always extremely painful for the target. Can be used to treat flesh wounds.

That made them hostile to us but nothing came of it in the end because no one actually did a follow up attack. Lastly the magus told us about the sinking, the suns actually knew something about it so thats all we had to go by or do nothing when there's the threat of the island sinking. Okay so what you need to know is this.

Bowties: Lead by a lich queen that's obsessed with immortality. They like fashion and are fighting a war against Rat People. They don't like magic.

Coppers: A group of people split up into Japanese-style clans, are attacked by orcs a lot and spend most of their time discovering how to use steam power. They do magic more as a hobby so it seems.

Sun Worshipers: They worship the sun, love magic, and like to wrestle each other naked all the time. They're everyone's friend, but at the same time a lot of their population has turned very lazy out of constant peace and luxury.

Trees: A group of people that think The Forrest is sacred. They're lead by a council of elves with a public made of humans. Well I also have another potential idea for the coppers to see. We cant really into Diplomacy because theres to many warlord familys. Just putting this up as an idea for the rest of the coppers to see that we could have the biggest warlord family have him try to take over the warlord lands to get one leader since he should have allied warlords to try and instate himself as a shogun and his lesser allys as Daiymos to try to slowly invade the weaker lords and take their lands eventually getting to the stronger familys before they notice which by then they would controll a majority of the lands. So if we want to make this overthrow work and end up with a functional country, we need to:
1) rally the people to our cause and build up the resistance. It must be a popular overthrow If we want to take over the country. Civil wars are won by the populace
2) we need to build up our power. As rebels, we should use subterfuge and gorilla tactics and gather allies within and outside of our nation. We hit key targets and hide within the populace.
3) we need a figure head or martyr for our cause. A person who the people can be inspired by to join the cause. This could be a fallen saboteur, a citizen abused or wronged horribly by the current government, a charismatic leader of the resistance, or a some elf princess from a prior tribe or government that doesn't exist anymore but people still respect. hell, we could use that one female elf that was sent as a representative that was forced to act as a maid instead
4)we need to also need have a form of government to replace the current one once we remove it. There will be a power gap that could destroy us if we are not ready. We'll need to decide our government and find or train people to lead possibly with the maidens help. Also we need to take care of any resistance from the former government sympathisers

We have several things we can take advantage of. The mercenaries are not loyal to anyone's cause, so we could use them in our fight by promising favorable terms and money. Since we are a rebel faction in a civil war, we have stealth to our advantage. most other nations don't care for the current tree fucks, so they seem willing to help us.

I made an updated map with some bonus details.
While making it I noticed something pretty off.

Copper Trains are pretty useless for transport.

If we take into account that Coppers knew well how to make and operate boats, they have a massive vertical river that runs from their topmost regions almost all the way to Sun territory that they can transport goods and troops along faster than steam engines could hope to.

Here's a projected map of what the overlay of The World may be.

I mainly took into account the rivers that run through the land and tried to put reason to their bends and curves.

The arrows are of course the direction of rivers, and the dashed lines should be where hills or slopes are causing the rivers to bend.

What I found is that it makes most sense that we're in a giant valley with mountains or highlands surrounding us on all sides to feed the many rivers, causing a large basin of water to collect as a sea in the center.

This means that the landscapes for each land is as follows:

Suns: The landscape is at the lowest point of the valley where a large enough lake has enough plains and flatness to develop. This makes it some of the most farm friendly and hospitable land in the region.

Coppers: The slimness of the nation seems to reflect a closeness to mountainside along with the long stretch of river that follow along its edge, this makes it to where the lower lands become more fertile from run off and river flooding that coats the eastern portion of the land. Likely the lands west of the river are bad for farming, but lands in the north and to the river's east are great for farming.

Trees: Their whole land is covered in a pretty forested area after being cut off from the rest of the plains and hilly areas of further south by The Mountainous Rat Lands. This land probably has the most wildlife by far, but is prone to creating swampland in bends of the river.

Bowties: This seems to be the only player nation with no good river. The land likely slopes from north highlands down to southern plains. The issue is that they are certainly on the wrong side of the river, and most floodwaters go to The Suns rather than Bowties. The Bows can of course farm along the parts of their boarder that touch the southern river, but anywhere else is mighty bad for farming because of the land's sloped nature, and the fact that a lot of rain runoff likely goes to The Trees where The North River begins.

This is oddly enough important for The Plague as well, since it does seem frogs are its main cause.

The lands most least in danger of extended plague are The Bows and The Coppers, for their sloped nature and lack of slow moving water offers few places for continued frog spawning.

The nations most in danger of The plague ate The Sun and The Trees, for the body of water in the middle of Sun lands, and the presence of many hot springs offers frogs good places to spawn and reproduce, causing lands South of The South River to be prime for frog breeding.
Trees on the other hand suffer more where their river lets out into the ocean, for the likelihood of developing swamps along that shoreline, and the abundance of flourishing fauna presents good lands for frogs to spawn in as well.

That was already part of a warlords land but he got killed by the other lords which would put it into another warlords lands. But you put the orcs right ontop of the engineers borders. The warlord land hardly touches the orc land in which case it'd be the engineers constantly dealing with them since their closer.

The best we've got for an estimate is that they strike all the way to the coasts as shown by the warlord that helped train the shamans. He is also within travel distance so that could put the warlord somewhere in the center portion of our lands to even right next to the suns. Which would mean the orcs are somewhere along there unless opee says the orcs are just massive and do raids all along the western border entirely which would explain why their affecting our population growth so much.

Well it was specified that The Orcs themselves are Ten Thousand strong, but considering how thin The Copper Lands are, raiding to the coast is no major feat, but if they were able to raid the entire coastline that would mean they either brought boats, or are more center west of The Coppers. I would think if they were really at The Southern Boarder that The Suns would also be suffering raids right now.

10 thousand was the initial army that we killed most of, they either sent small raids past the western lords or he got beat when the army came and thats where his story came from or he has a shitload of land that extends to the west and he just lives on the coast. We have no idea the full strength of the orcs in their lands other than the fact they can beat the warlords in them fairly easily thanks to their combat ability. Center west is the most likely place because they destroyed so many warlord territorys in the first attack which would also explain why the suns are untouched.

Agreed, though I must wonder if The Orcs are being affected by the frog plague considering that I believe its source was The Sea, possibly an act by The Mermaid upon the land dwellers.

And if The River Valley Theory holds up that would mean The Orcs are living in a mountainous climate, possibly to the south of West River's beginning.

looks really good! also I think that the sunlands are really wet, clouds can only come from the north so when they go south they bump against the mountains south of the sun they go up against them it gets colder and then it will rain. I guess the wind will usually come from either the north or the west. since the coppers do have a river. if that makes sense...

okay made a lil map for it: so if the wind is coming from the north (red) it will rain in the south (sunlands) if the wind comes form the west (purple) it goes to the trees, bumps into the rat lands goes to the copper goes south and finally comes to the sunlands if there is any rain left.

Thought our navy was destroyed completely :/? I personally think we should kill them head on, do a "land sweep" taking village by village back until we reach their Capitol and kill them all. With archers, hog-riders and use the Ents to protect the border between us and the rebels. I am all for the creation of an embassy. I think we could start with making connections with the second most xenophobic tribe and making a pact with them.
