--------------------------------------------------------------------

The first day and a bit of leave were good and bad.

It started bad when you woke up to the news that Miller was being cycled back to the fleet at his request. He knew that he wasn't cut out for being a fighter pilot, TOPGUN was impossible for him, so left to spare the squadron his burden. When you left to head to your San Francisco apartment, there wasn't a replacement.

Your trip to San Francisco was long and arduous. Once again you grabbed a Hilux from the base's motor pool and bribed the guys there with promises of beer. The drive itself was a straight drive down I-5, thanks to the lack of traffic you were able to make it in only 7 hours, making it to your apartment by 14:45. Unfortunately, you weren't able to find your "kiss the cook" apron, but you were able to find you boombox and sneak out of the building when your ex arrived in the lobby.

Which was great now that you think about it, she was clingy as all hell, and the fact that she was still visiting your apartment was more than enough proof.

After that, you left San-Fran as quickly as you could. Not even stopping to grab food, you opted for a burger at a truck stop just off I-5 when you stopped for gas, and again a few hours later for more food and beer. You returned to Miramar at around 22:00 hours, with beer in tow for the guys at the motor pool.

When you woke up the next day, a replacement had been chosen for Miller, a replacement you were happy with. However, an unintended side-effect was a room re-shuffling. All of the arrangements for the beach party had been made, food and drink had been acquired. The location had been chosen and everybody was ready to go. Once again, you bribed the guys in the motor pool in return for a pair of Hiluxes. Leaving just after lunch, you hit a drive-thru on the way to the beach.

You set up on a stretch of golden coastline about 3 hours later. The girls set up their beach towels and umbrellas while you the guys set up the volleyball net and barbecue. As you turned on the boombox, the party started.

Ex sounds like an opportunity for some conflict/drama. Let's (stealthily) look for her, while pretending to pay attention to the party.
>>
>>435791
Except that Razor does NOT like his ex. He would never willingly try and meet her.

One of reasons for him liking the fleet was that he would be somewhere where his ex wouldn't be able to get to him without getting herself a felony.

As you looked around the group, you couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching you. You took a careful look around the area, the general terrain was fairly flat with tall grass for as far as the eye could see. The only thing standing out on the terrain was a ship washed up on the coast further up the beach. As you began to look away from the ship, you noticed a flash, like the reflection of the afternoon sun bouncing off glass.

Or bouncing off the lenses of a set of binoculars.

With your first point of interest chosen, you decided to inform Zeus that you'll be gone for a bit.

"Hey Zeus, You mind if I grab something out of the truck." You say as he looked up from his technical magazine.

"What you grabbing?" He asked with a perplexed look.

"A picture of my ex." You tell him, immediately getting the response you were looking for as his eyes went dark. You had both set up this little code a couple of tours back as a way of alerting each other that your ex was somewhere nearby.

Zeus nodded silently before looking back into his magazine. You noticed his right hand drop down to where he kept his pistol holstered and thumb the safety off through his clothes. Taking no chances after last time.

You waste not time heading back to the hilux. You reached into your bag and retrieved your M1911, still snug in it's holster with 4 magazines. You strapped it onto your bare chest before covering it with a shirt. Safely behind the cover of the Hillux, you dropped down onto your chest and crawl along the sand bar, heading closer to the ship. As soon as you were just past the ship you pulled out your pistol and peeked over the sandbar.

Sure enough, there was a Lincoln Town Car parked close to the boat. You notice that a rope had been slung up to allow access to the ship's deck.

You quietly jogged over to the rope and climbed up, your movement apparently suppressed by the sound of loud music coming from your unit's party.

Good, Zeus was doing his part.

You managed to climb up unnoticed and found yourself directly behind the person that had been stalking you, not your ex, but one of her lackeys.

Unfortunately, she had many lackeys and friends that were willing to follow you around and report you every move to her.

>Take out her radio, cut her off from your ex.
>Point your gun at her and order her to put her hands on her head.

She doesn't own the ship. It's been washed up for a couple of years now. The crew tried to run drugs in from Mexico, they were arrested on the shore and the drugs were taken by police, after that the ship's internals were scavenged by passers by. Now it's just a useless hulk on the shore.

Hm, so we wait a bit and then ask her what she is doing there with a radio and binoculars... still don't see a way to get her away from the beach - unless we can capture her spying on Navy pilots?

You decide to hide behind the pilothouse and wait, hoping that you could get some info before making a decision on what to do.

You don't have to wait long as the observer's radio crackled into life a few seconds after you took position.

"Lauren to Jenny." You hear your ex's voice crackle out of the portable radio's speaker. "Do you see him?"

The observer, apparently called Jenny, reached over and grabbed the radio, bringing it to her mouth.

"This is Jenny, I still don't see him." She answered, not taking her eyes off the binoculars. "Are you still planning on heading down here?"

"No. I'll wait until we have a definite location." Lauren responded. "I don't want to be bogged down in one location if he shows up somewhere else."

After that, the radio went silent again and Jenny went back to watching your unit. And while she might be patient enough to wait, you are not. It's part of being a fighter pilot.

You stood up and carefully walked up to where she was lying prone. Once right on top of her, you decided how you would handle this.

>Snatch the radio and back off. She can't report you position without the radio.
>Toss the radio away and put your gun to her back. You aren't in the mood for pleasantries with people who stalk your unit.

As soon as you were next to the observer, you grabbed the radio and backed off to the other side of the boat, only speaking when you were ready and with your pistol hidden.

"You know, I would have thought that Lauren would have gotten the message. I distinctly remember telling her that we were through countless times." You begin calmly, startling the woman in front of you. "And yet, she sends her friends to stalk me and my friends."

The lackey frantically looked around for her radio, before looking straight at you.

"Looking for something?" You said as you brought the radio out from behind your back. "A very expensive model. So it would seem that our mutual acquaintance isn't sparing any expense then."

In less than a second, the woman stood up, only to freeze at the sight of you pulling your gun.

"Now there's no reason to rush." You flicked the safety of your pistol off, before letting it hang in your hand. "Nobody is going to interrupt us here. So we have all the time we need to sort this out."

The woman remained quiet, her eyes darting between you and your gun.

You sighed, before continuing. "So, how about we get started then, shall we?" You leaned onto the ship's pilothouse as you spoke. "Now, why are you looking for me."

The woman didn't speak for a good few seconds, but eventually she found her voice.

"Why do you think?" She said rhetorically. "Lauren wanted to know where you were."

"Tell me, Jenny. Did she ever say why she wanted to see me? Did she give any reason for her interest?" You ask, another question that you could already guess an reasonable explanation.

"Because she loves you." Jenny responded, obviously perturbed that you were calling her by her name. "Whenever she talks about you she just gets that misty-eyed look, she misses you so much."

"We ended that relationship years ago." You snap bitterly. "We ended it after she injured my last RIO."

This obviously shocked Jenny, who took a second to comprehend the new information.

"Now, you're going to tell me exactly what Lauren has told you." You continue, still bitter at the memory of what she did to Hades. "And after that you are going to leave."

"All she said was that she missed you." Jenny replied. "She never mentioned doing anything to you. All she said she would do is ''keep you close''. And that's it."

You roll you eyes. Whenever Lauren said she would do something, she would usually do the extreme version of it.

"She tends to escalate things." You say as you toss the radio in your hand. "But then again, she can easily afford it."

"What do you mean?" Jenny asked, obviously confused.

"Lauren hides a lot from people." You begin as you remember everything that you know regarding your ex. "Her daddy is a billionaire. If you knew anything about radios then you would know that this radio is one of the best, and most expensive on the market."

>CONT
>>
>>436763

You pause for a second to let that sink in, before continuing. "In fact, I would wager that she didn't tell you about how she was nearly convicted for assault, but then her daddy bribed a few juries and got her out of it. Or how she's been stalking me ever since we broke up."

Jenny only slowly shook her head in response.

"I thought so." Is all you say.

You are both silent for a couple of seconds, with only the sound of the party further up the beach filling the air.

You holster you pistol, toss the radio into your right hand, and fling it out to sea. Sending it into the shallows. You don't even watch it hit the water, you instead look back at Jenny and speak.

"Here's what is going to happen now." You say calmly. "You are going to get in your car and leave. And if you tell Lauren my location, then chances are that people will get hurt, or even die."

You paused again, giving Jenny enough time to understand the ramifications of her actions. She nodded in response and you continue.

"Now, get moving." Is all you say. Jenny immediately walked towards the car. You watch her get in and leave, driving from the beached boat up over the sandbar and onto the road. You watch her drive up the road for a minute before climbing down from the ship and heading back to the party.

You arrive a few minutes later, opting to walk back rather than crawl along the sandbar as the sun began to drop lower and lower in the sky, starting to tint the horizon orange.

"So, how'd it go?" Zeus asked as you arrived back at where the group had setup.

"Meh, I couldn't find 'em. But they'll turn up soon" You respond, sneakily telling Zeus that your ex was nowhere nearby, but that she could turn up.

You sat down next to Zeus and stretched your legs out as you looked around at what everybody else is doing.

Ahab was busying himself with the grill, cooking the food that Zeus and everybody else had grabbed earlier. His RIO, Ishmael was assisting him. The Brits and the Germans were engaged in an intense volleyball match with Kenji acting as a referee. From what you could see, they were pretty tied up.

Kay and Villaceque were both enjoying the water while Favreau and Tatsuko were doing the exact opposite and were relaxing on the beach.

You decided to relax for a couple of minutes while you wait for the volleyball match to finish up.

"So." Zeus began, not even looking up from his magazine. "How do you think TOPGUN is going to go?

"It will be a cake walk. Remember how we kicked the shit out of those Air Force guys?" You respond enthusiastically. "This will be easy."

"There's a difference between Airforce clowns and TOPGUN instructors." Zeus stated, it was no secret that he viewed Airforce pilots as inferior to Navy.

"In any case." Durendal spoke up from just past Zeus. "It's best to remain on guard. They could throw anything at us."

You only nod in response. You would be on guard alright, but for a completely different reason.

The volleyball match went on for another 20 minutes as the Brits and the Germans drew once, then twice, before the Brits managed to eek out a lead and keep it for a while. They dragged themselves back to where you, Zeus and everybody else had setup.

"Damn, that match took far too long." Slider panted as she lay in the sand.

"It was fun to watch though." You opine, only for for Slider to lazily throw sand at you.

You watch as Kay and Bats walked out of the water and headed over from the water.

"So Razor, you up for some volleyball?" Kay said as she walked over.

"Yeah sure." You say as you stand up. "Zeus, you up for it?"

"Yeah sure, nothing better to do." Zeus responded as he also got up, ditching his magazine on the way.

You arrived at the net and passed the ball to Zeus. "You serve." Is all you say as you take position, on the opposite side to you was Kay, Bats took up the space opposite to Zeus.

Zeus opened with a spike into the space between Kay and Bats. Kay countered it with a short shot, you intercepted the ball and smacked it behind her, only for Bats to hit it back to Zeus.

This little dance continued for a couple of minutes before Kay stumbled and the ball hit the sand. Starting the match 1-0 in your favor.

You weren't able to keep up your lead for very long, the girls managed to equalise at 5 all. Before managing to pull ahead to 8-7.

You get the feeling that they might have sussed out your style. So you might have to change it up.

>Head to the back. Zeus can be pretty mean up front on a good day. Maybe you get the same success as earlier.

"Switch out?" Zeus asked form the back.

"Yep" You respond as you drop back. Zeus took your spot at the front.

You serve, sending the ball towards Kay, who returned it back to you, only for you to send it short, right into Bats. She served it short, practically sending it into Zeus's hands. He then lofted the ball high into the air, allowing you the perfect chance to run up and spike it in past Kay. Equalising it easily enough.

8-8

They served next, with Kay sending the ball short and to the far left. Forcing Zeus to scramble to send it back. Only for Bats to launch the ball towards the space on the far right. You dived to intercept it, but the distance was just too far. The ball smacked down and all you managed to get for your troubles was a face full of sand.

9-8, their favour.

Zeus seemed to anticipate you move to the front and headed to the back to cover the rear.

You serve again, sending the ball arcing high and straight towards Bats, who sends it back to you again. You keep this up before suddenly spiking the ball hard towards Kay, a tactic that relied on someone flinching or otherwise missing.

Unfortunately, Kay didn't flinch. She sent the ball into the air to bleed off it's speed. And when it came back down she smacked it towards Zeus, who returned it in kind, planting it between Kay and Bats with a spray of sand.

9-9, all tied up for the final round.

Kay served this time, bouncing it between herself and Zeus. They kept up this dance for a bit before you intercepted the ball and sent it straight towards Bats, who was waiting for the ball to come her way. She then sent it back towards Zeus, who returned it again, after that it fell into Kay's reach. And she blasted it towards you. And for another few minutes it fell int another passing match, with neither side being able to make a decisive break.

However, one side had to falter first, and it was yours.

You hadn't noticed that you and Zeus were out of position until Kay spiked the volleyball straight towards your unprotected right.

Zeus dived after it, passing you at a dead sprint. He managed to knock it back int the air just long enough for you to drive it straight past Bats.

You and Zeus win with a close 10-9 victory.

"FUCK YEAH!" You yell as fist pump. You calm down for a second to help Zeus off the ground.

"Great match." Kay said as she walked over. "We almost had you."

"Yeah, almost. But Zeus pulled it out for us." You pass the congratulations off to Zeus as you clap him on the back.

"Food's ready!" Ahab yelled from the grill. You, Zeus, Kay and Bats all made your way over to the grill, where everybody else was already grabbing their food on paper plates.

You patiently wait in line and discuss the match with your fellow players. From what you could gleam from Kay and Bats, they had been following yours and Zeus's moves, and had adjusted accordingly.

"Help yourself to the food." Ahab said as you reached the head of the line. "There's plenty of it."

He wan't kidding, the grill wasn't even a single grill, it was a pair of grills placed end-to-end. You grabbed a burger from Ishmael, a small rack of ribs, some mini-hotdogs and potato chips. To wash it down you grabbed a bottle of beer from the cooler.

With your meal finally acquired. You sat down with everyone and tucked in. The meat was very succulent and delicious. Not to raw and not too well done. The ribs had been marinated in a sweet and spicy sauce. Leaving them soft and tender. The mini-hotdogs were just as well cooked as the ribs and burger. The skin on the outside was slightly crunchy while the meat inside was soft and juicy.

"Enjoying your food?" Ahab asked as he sat down.

"Yep!" You answered as everybody else also responded positively.

"I really like the ribs." Kay spoke up as she wolfed down her food.

"I like the burgers more." Vampire added to Kay's statement.

"I prefer these hotdogs." Durendal said just after Vampire had finished speaking.

Ahab just chuckled from the praise, before answering. "I couldn't have done this alone. Ishmael handled the burgers while Scorpion gave us some tips for the sausages." Ahab gestured to his assistants.

"Thanks to all of you then!" You say, with everybody else following suit a second later.

"Hello Razor." Scorpion greeted you as soon as you spoke. "Congratulations on winning your match against Kay and Bats."

"Thanks. Well we almost didn't win." You respond before taking a bite out of your burger.

"True, but that's what makes it a great game to watch!" Scorpion announced pridefully. "That thrill of risking failure is what makes things fun."

"She bet against you." Vampire said without even looking up from her book. And as such, didn't dodge the swipe from Scorpion.

You gasp with mock horror. "Oh no. Scorpion bet against me." You jest with fake sadness. "Oh whatever will I do now?"

The girls just laughed at your display. You waited for them to finish before continuing.

"In any case, how are finding the trip?" You asked as you polished off your plate.

"It's been great fun." Scorpion immediately responded. "It's been a very pleasant day out. I feel like we've bonded further with the rest of the unit."

"Which just means that it will be worse if someone goes down." Vampire said absentmindedly, only to get another playful smack from Scorpion.

"Don't be so gloomy. Nothing bad is going to happen." Scorpion assured Vampire with confidence. So sure that nobody would end up dead.

You decide not to comment on this.

With your conversation with the Germans dying down. You decided to plough new grounds and as such, talk to the British. You stood up and made the very short walk over to where Slider and Mags were sitting.

"Razor. Well done with your match." Slider congratulated you as you sat down.

"You really showed them up." Mags added, before finishing off her burger.

"Yeah, we almost didn't. But that's besides the point." You respond. "How are you both finding the trip?"

"Its great." They both responded at the same time.

"It's been a great way to get to know everyone. And get Mags out of her shell." Slider said as she nudged Mags.

"I only did those volleyball games because you promised cake." Mags said with dismay. "I wanted cake."

You chuckled for a couple of seconds. "Oh, so you're the kind that thinks with their stomach. Don't worry, I know a guy who does some of the best cakes in the country."

"Oh, so trying to bribe my RIO then?" Slider teased. "I'm sorry but you'll have to do better if you want to find my sweet spot."

"I just want cake." Mags said, seemingly not getting what Slider was implying.

"Exactly, why have you got to make everything lewd Slider?" You ask mockingly.

Before Slider could speak, Mags piled up.

"She's insecure that nobody want's to even touch her sweet spot." Mags interjected, completely stopping Slider and causing her to pause for a few seconds.

In these few seconds, you laughed at Slider's expense. Only stopping when she took a swipe at you.

"I have." Slider said defensively. "I'll have you know that I've had many boyfriends and we have done it."

"So how many times have you been around the block?" Mags said before Slider tacked her out of embarrassment.

With the Brits busy doing what they were doing, you decided to go and talk with the newest members of your unit. And thankfully they ware all in one place.

Tatsuko, Kenji, Kay and Rekker were all sat in a circle, chatting about something. You walked over and sat down.

"Hello Razor." Kenji said as you sat down. "Congratulations on beating Kay."

"Yeah, you beat us just barely though." Kay added from right beside you. "If Zeus hadn't made that dive then we would have had you."

"True." You concede before asking the same question you had asked the Brits and the Germans. "In any case. How are all of you finding the trip thus-far?"

"I like it." Tatsuko spoke up. "I am really glad that you and Zeus-san set this up."

Upon realising what she had just said, Kenji burst out laughing, before saying something in Japanese. He then turned to the assembled Americans, who didn't have a clue what he had just said.

"Sorry, I just find it very entertaining that Tatsuko uses Japanese honorifics when speaking English." Kenji explained as he continued to chuckle.

"Well I don't blame her. It's hard to be multi-lingual." You explain. "It's very easy to mess up when you aren't speaking your native language."

This immediately got Tatsuko's attention. "What language do you speak?"

"Russian." You respond almost immediately. "My mother was an Intel analyst in 'nam and she wanted me to follow in her footsteps."

"Now that sounds boring." Rekker spoke up.

"Yep. And that's why I became a pilot." You summarise.

>>
"So. What do you think TOPGUN has in store for us?" You ask. "Aside from combat training."

"It will certainly be a struggle." Kenji responded. "A number of IJN pilots act as foreign instructors there. And usually those that are sent over are the toughest pilots in Japan."

"I agree. It will defiantly be hard." Kay added. "Though when we come out of it we'll be among the best pilots in the fleet."

"I know something else that's hard. You want to see it?" Rekker nudged Kay as Tatsuko turned slightly red at the implied lewdness.

"Rekker please. It's probably so tiny that a pencil would be longer and harder." Kay responded without missing a beat.

"Come on Kay, I saw how you were gobbling down those sausages earlier. It looked like you were begging for something long and meaty." Rekker continued, indifferent to the growing blush on Tatsuko's face.

"Please, a needle-dick like yours wouldn't even satisfy a rat. If I was looking for some quality meat I would ask Razor." Kay responded as she hugged you, making an effort to look as submissive as possible in order to mock Rekker.

Rekker opened his mouth to respond when Tatsuko spoke up. "Just shut it needle-dick."

At this, Kenji burst into laughter, with you and Kay following less than a second later. Leaving Rekker to deal with how he would deal with this.

His response was a barely heard grumble.

After you managed to regain some composure, you congratulated Tatsuko. "вы oчeнь хopoшo"

Yeah, might as well demonstrate your Russian.

Tatsuko looked at you with a knowing grin, and then replied. "Я мoг бы cкaзaть тo жe caмoe o вac."

You can't help but chuckle in response.

You decided to leave Miller to his shame and headed off to talk with the last pair that you had yet to talk to.

"Hey girls." You got the French pair's attention as you sit down next to them. Bats was resting with her head on Durendal's lap.

"Bonjour Razor." Durendal greeted as you sat down. "How are you?"

"I'm doing well thanks." You responded, before adding. "Though from the look of it, someone is a bit tired."

Durendal sighed as she was reminded of the head in her lap.

"Well this lazy oaf decided to use my lap as a pillow." Durendal said disdainfully.

"But it's soooo soft." Bats wailed like a lazy teen in the morning. You barely stifle down a laugh as you remember back to how your sister would try and lie-in all day.

If you remember correctly, she was just about to finish flight training for the F-14. Something that made you very proud.

"I don't care, it's unladylike." Durendal responded sternly as she moved her legs in an effort to get Bats out of her lap.

"I'm surprised that you aren't happy that there is something near your cunt that isn't a-" Bats was cut off by Durendal putting her hand over her mouth, silencing her.

"But in any case, we're doing well!". Durendal said with forced happiness as she kept her hand clamped over Bat's mouth.

"So, you never told me how you both got your callsigns." You dragged the conversation away from what Durendal did in her spare time.

"Well, I picked mine up in training after I beat the base's champion in boxing." Durendal began. "After the fight he claimed that I was tougher than the sword Durendal. So I ended up being given that as my callsign."

"That's actually a pretty pleasant callsign." You note, usually callsigns had an unpleasant story behind them. It was kinda the rule.

"Well her other callsigns were plain insults." Bats said from her position in Durendal's lap. "I got my callsign after I was assigned to night-patrols for a month straight. Everyone said that I would only fly at night, like a bat. And so the name stuck."

You winced, night-flights were terrible, mostly because they were usually supplementary to day flights. And as such you would be flying double the number of flight when compared to everyone else.

"In any case, how do both of you think that TOPGUN will go?" You ask for their predictions.

"I've already said my piece. They will likely put major odds against us and expect us to succeed." Durendal responded. "After all, we'll be expected to against great odds in real missions. So it only makes sense for them to put us through the grinder in training."

"I agree. It doesn't make sense for them to go easy on us." Bats added.

You nodded in response, but when you went to speak, Durendal cut you off.

"Say, what were you doing earlier. You disappeared for a while. Was everything alright?" She asked with genuine concern.

Well shit, you knew that someone would find out, and now you have to talk.

>>
"I saw something." You responded, finally spilling the beans.

"What did you see?" Bats asked, sitting up so that she was facing you. Durendal took this chance to move her legs.

"Some lackey that my ex had sent out to look for me." You explained, noticing that a number of people were looking over with interest. "I got the lackey to fuck off, but my ex is very persistent."

"How dangerous is she?" Weiss asked as she crawled over. Everybody else also closed in around you, looking to know more.

"She's rich, has a lot of gullible friends and is overly persistent. Though she can get pretty dangerous in person." You continue. "She almost killed my last RIO, so assume that she might try and do the same to any of you."

This noticeably disturbed everybody. A couple even started to look around for anyone nearby.

"What's here name and what does she look like?" Mags said as she grabbed a notepad and pencil.

"She's called Lauren Mercer. She's roughly around 5'7. Has green eyes and ginger hair, but she may have died her hair a different colour. Fairly bit tits." You report, Mags scribbled down the description.

"How crazy are we talking here?" Ahab spoke up, you noticed that he wasn't looking at you when he was talked. He was looking out over the beach, on the lookout for anyone.

"The kind that tries to kidnap you and attacks your friends." You summarise darkly. "It's only made worse by the fact that she has a lot of friends and her daddy is a billionaire."

The group was silent for a couple of seconds, before Slider spoke up. "Why didn't you tell us earlier about this?"

"Because I thought she had given up." You conceded. "I guess I was wrong."

"What should we do if we see her?" Kay asked, not sounding even the slightest bit worried.

"Avoid her if she isn't coming after you. If she's following you then try to loose her. Only engage if she's trying to attack you, in which case you can kill her for all I care."

Everybody was silent for a few seconds, before Durendal spoke up. "We'll be careful Razor."

"Agreed. We'll report anything we find back to you." Kenji chimed in.

"You might want to tell the guys back at the base." Tatsuko spoke up. "We could get her added to the base's blacklist."

"Thanks guys. Glad to have ya'll at my back." You thank everyone, they nodded in response.

"What's the point in comrades if they don't have in your back?" Weiss said as she clapped you on the back.

"Well I don't know about you guys. But I don't exactly like being exposed like this when someone is hunting one of us. I say that we pack up before it gets dark." Ahab suggested as he made his way towards the grills.

"Sounds good to me." You say as you hop up and head over to the grills, Zeus, Rekker and Kenji followed you over and helped pack up.

"Hey, Razor." Rekker said as you both got busy cleaning up. "You're good with the girls right?"

"You could say that. What do you need to know?" You respond as you emptied the leftover ash into a bin bag.

"What's up with the girls? Every time I try to talk with them they insult me." Rekker continued as you handed the bag off to Ahab.

"Well you do tend to come off as a bit of a dick." You said as you both picked up the grill and carried it over to one of the Hiluxes. "Most of the girls got their callsigns due to what they did to guys who were dicks to them. Scorpion got hers because she puts scorpions into people's flightsuits."

As soon as you mentioned the scorpions, Rekker flinched as-if he'd been slapped, he almost dropped the grill.

"Jesus that's brutal." He said as he went pale from imagining what would likely happen to him in that situation. "So I should tone it down?"

"Defiantly." You say as you both hefted the grill into the back on a Hilux. "You can still occasionally flirt with them, but try something more tasteful than dick jokes."

"I'll keep that in mind." Rekker said as the rest of the unit walked over, carrying their beach gear.

Everybody gathered up the gear, packed it away and climbed into the 2 trucks. The journey back to the base was tense, but ultimately uneventful. The miniature convoy made a couple of stops along the way to drop off rented equipment, bin some rubbish and buy beer to pay back the guys in the motor pool. You arrived back just as flight-ops finished up for the day. Ahab and Kenji dropped everybody off at the barracks, before heading to the motor pool to drop off the trucks and beer. As you walk in, you are greeted by Dredd.

"Hey Razor." He called out to you. "Some mail arrived for you. It's at the base post office."

Upon hearing the news that you have mail, you immediately turned on the spot and headed straight out of the door. Heading for the base's post office.

The post office was thankfully a short walk away. One of the advantages of your barracks was that it was in a very central location. You arrived at the post office about 15 minutes later. Finding a rather bored looking ensign on the desk.

"I was told that there was mail for me? Name is Bradley Poole, VF-21." You introduce yourself to the ensign, who waited for you to finish before silently getting up and heading into the back. He returned a few minutes later with 2 boxes and 3 letters.

"Here you go. There's everything for you." The ensign said as he sat back down and went back to reading his book, called "The Patriot Games", sounded thrilling.

You trekked back across the base with you gifts in tow. You arrived back in your room a few minutes later than you had expected.

"So, what have have you got?" Zeus said as he got ready to hit the sack.

"3 letters and 2 packages." You said as you looked at the sender's address on each one.

A package and one of the letters was sent from you parent's house, one letter was sent from Misawa Air Base in northern Japan while the remaining letter and package were both from an address that you didn't recognise.

"2 unknowns, 1 from Japan and the rest from home." You report back to Zeus.

"Well it looks like you've got some unpacking to do then." Zeus said as he climbed into bed. "I'll be reading here if you need me."

>Open the stuff from home! It's been a while since you had some mail from them.

You decide to go through the pile methodically. Starting with the stuff from your family, then moving onto the letter from Japan, and then finally the mystery box and the letter that came with it.

You immediately tore open the package and opened up the small metal container's lid. Revealing rows of cookies, all made for you. You grabbed you combat knife and carefully cut open the envelope and retrieved the letter inside. The letter was a update from home, which you read while you enjoyed the tasty cookies.

Your dad's requisition to buy is old A-4 out of AWMAC had been accepted. It needed a lot of work as much of it's internals had been scavenged for parts, but your father was determined to get it back up and running. Aside from that, your sister Amy had passed flight training, and had been forward deployed to Japan. Thankfully she was flying an F-14, just like you had hoped. She wanted to go to TOPGUN, but had been denied due to low flight-hours. Your parents were looking forward to receiving your reply, or a visit if you ever had the time off. And as a little preset from home, they had sent you a care package.

You chuckled at the thought of Big Brother Bradley helping his little sister out, again.

You moved onto the second letter, this one from pre-determined to be from your sister. You hadn't had any contact with her for a while, so her letter was much longer, but it could be summed up in much fewer words.

You sister boasted that she had managed to get through training with a score just lower than yours. She was very happy with the unit that she had been placed in, while it wasn't a mostly female unit like yours, she did boast that her boss was a woman, and she came down hard on excessive flirting. She apparently also shared a base with some important Japanese pilot that went everywhere with an escort, you'd have to ask Kenji about who that could be. The only thing that your sister didn't boast about was that her bird was a B model and that she hadn't been sent to TOPGUN.

As you finished the letter, you smirked as you realised that you could boast back about your unit, your jets and that you were at TOPGUN. Though you'd have to run the letter past Dredd to make sure that it followed OPSEC.

And with the first 3 letters read, you moved on to the mystery parcel and letter. You tightly closed the lid on your cookie box before carefully opening the letter, and less than a second later you were assaulted by the smell of something strong and fruity. As you coughed and swiped at the air, you realised what you were smelling, expensive perfume. Perfume that you hadn't smelt for a beautifully long time. A scent that you had wished many times that you would never smell again.

There was no mistaking it, your ex had sent this.

As you walked over to the window, Zeus started to cough as the scent spread around the room. You opened the window and took a breath of clean, fresh air. With Zeus joining you a few seconds later.

"What the fuck was that?" Zeus asked as you opened all of the windows in the room.

"A letter from my ex." You say grimly. "She signs them with excessive amounts of perfume."

"Are we in any danger?" Zeus said as he grabbed a loose shirt and started waving it around to cause the air in the room to start flowing.

"No, anthraxing me is against her whole keep me alive thing." You said as you grabbed the unopened box and opened it near the window, causing most of the overpowering smell of perfume to be vented straight out of the window.

"Well that's pretty good, aside from the fact that our room now smells like some posh bitch's cunt." Zeus said as he grabbed a can of deodorant and began spraying it around the room. You returned to your bed and began reading the letter.

The letter was pretty straight-forward, it was her explaining that she was happy that you were in the state. She really wanted to talk with you and that she hoped that the both of you could repair your relationship. She missed the feeling of your warm, nude body pressing up against-

You stopped reading then and there. You did NOT want to continue. So instead you turned your attention towards the parcel. Inside the parcel was a bottle of bourbon and what looked like expensive chocolates.

With all of your mail opened and checked out, you shoved it all into the empty drawer under your desk, mostly to hide it. Now VERY tired, you made a quick list of everything you were planning on doing tomorrow before you climbed into bed.

Your sleep was not restful. You dreamed or running away from cackling, crazed laughter while giant, jet-sized knives fell all around you, point first.

==================================
