For one person you'd have to be extremely skilled to pull it off and it would take at least 2 days to complete. You proceed into the tunnel and up the stairs and come into a room with a bunch of large vats. One of them is broken.

You take a closer look at the vats. They're all filled with abominations at various stages of development. They all look really messed up though. You don't think any creature is supposed to look like this. This kind of thing is really against the law. One of them is broken with fluid all over the floor in a trail so you guess one of them broke out and is wandering the halls and you'll have to confront it soon. You're not looking forward to that.

There are also some papers on the floor on organic development and spiritual possession.

Most of the books are on summoning, spirits, spiritual possession, and general knowledge on spirits and the astral plane.

There's stuff here on making pacts with spirits and what must be done to summon a major spirit. Spirits aren't your specialty so you don't know a lot of this stuff. It looks like major spirits are incredibly dangerous which you did know. It also talks about old gods. It is common knowledge amongst the magically taught that spirits come from old gods that used to roam the earth that humans banished into the astral plane when they learned magic. Minor spirits are tiny fragments of the gods, and major spirits are large portions of them with immense power.

It says to summon a major spirit, ten skilled mages are needed. Five to grab hold of one in the astral plane, and five more to make a pact with it. That's why it's nigh impossible for one person to do it. From the size of the lightning bolt outside it looks like he's gotten a hold of one but it could still fail. However a failure is still catastrophic.
