Petroleum Edition

You are Subject 108, a.k.a. Whirlpool. You are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies from a reclusive civilization that has mastered spatial distortion. You tend to suffer occasional lapses in memory, emotion and judgement from shifting hormonal imbalances due to a congenital anomaly. You have been sent to the feral planet known as Cymbio IV for a simple task: fetching water, but you are sidetracked by an adventure of your own making. From surprisingly-intellectual tribespeople, to a humongous resort-like establishment, up to an assault on an unseen stronghold. Before tomorrow's done, you hope it will all come through.

>Recap: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Whirlpool%20Quest

With Stoddard's arrival and Aramid showing up with reinforcements, the siege on Petroleum and the Management District has begun. Five separate teams faced different challenges in various locations. Betelgeuse and the other exiles confronted Susan, a no-nonsense martial artist that went down quickly due to automatic weapons that fired nonlethal rounds. Her team then encounters the policemen being pursued by Karina, a veteran wielding a rocket launcher. The situation was resolved in a manner that defies expectations when Aramid's helmet comes off and her identity is revealed. Meanwhile, Halon's group of misfits used a fire exit as an entrance and recruited an eccentric aspirant clinging to old ambitions of fame. Later on they encountered Wheelseeker Hestan, a cone-headed individual that holds mutual opposition to Havelyn. The wheel-wielding warrior was defeated at the cost of Halon's Cryofield Emitter and Saccharin's consciousness. In the maintenance underworks, Stoddard and his technicians encountered Felix Engelbart, a facetious engineer. He deploys the Megalodon, an autonomous combat mech that was apparently stolen from the Etesians. The team fails in defeating the rampaging war machine but manages to escape with a kidnapped Felix and a seriously-wounded Epoxy. Whirlpool and her companions breached an empty dormitory room, and are now in the process of looting it.

With a little tinkering and help from Vector, you blow a much larger whole that leads you into normal living space again.

Ah, open space at last, you say out loud. Examining your surroundings you see a bunch of various, slightly-personalized lockers and even a treasure chest. There's also various beds nearby, a bulletin board on the wall, a large wall closet and a weapons display rack. This must be some kind of dorm room where some of Petroleum's lackeys turn in for the night. Errai ponders why no one is around and says some of her thoughts about the room.

>"I presume all of the residents are currently engaging our allies in different locations. This room is strange though, is it probable that Cassie and the others would agree to these conditions? From their varied individualism, there will be those who prefer sleeping in more customized conditions. Perhaps this is for personnel placed lower on the hierarchy."

>Snoop around.
You, Errai and Nicotine start tearing the place apart, figuratively.

There's nothing behind the bulletin board, for one thing you can't take it off ever. The notes on the bulletin don't really display anything unusual. Mostly just reminders for daily routines and to-do lists. Although there is a warning that the District Heads are converging on suspicious activity.

The beds are largely plain and empty, nothing suspicious there. The same goes for the large closet, which is filled with clothes sorted by person. Never the less you take the time to ruffle through the and find...nothing of note. Fancy hats and lacy underwear can always be bought at the Consumer District's stores.

The meat of your search lies in the lockers. Predictably, they're locked but it's not too difficult to break open. There are five lockers in total, counting the weird treasure chest in the corner.

The first one contains a worn-out external hard drive and a small drawing of a flag. There's also a couple boxes of hollowpoint shotgun slugs, a diary filled with bad handwriting and a faded ID that's expired since several decades ago.

The next one contains vintage issues of cartoon comic books, a small poster taped to the wall, a few boxes of pistol bullets, and a draft for a novel named "Woeful Wanderings".

Inside the third locker lies various military paraphernalia, some maps of unfamiliar geography and

The remaining lockers are surprisingly empty, maybe the residents already moved out to a different room.

The treasure chest is filled with a few cracked orbs and...crossbow bolts? This seems to be Havelyn's "locker". Whatever else is inside, a black crystal isn't one of them.

Some of the weapons on display are merely imitations or rendered non-functional. There are also empty slots, indicating that someone has already taken those items. Nicotine finds one firearm that, after a brief moment of verification, is actually functional.

>"Hey Wis, check out my typewriter."

That's nice, you say in response while you look at a strange firearm that was mounted on a small display. The plaque reads "This stainless steel Thompson G2 Contender is property of Gertude Stampian. DO NOT STEAL OR I WILL GET SAD AND CRY FOR A LONG TIME."

Ignoring the request, you pilfer it anyway and take the slugs that go with it.

>Have Vector take a peek outside the door while he is invisible while everyone else searches the room.
Meanwhile, Vector was asked to stand guard outside the room. Errai added that it would arouse less suspicion if he looked like he was simply idle.

--

You are now Vector, a paramilitary operative, and your secondary objective is to keep anyone from entering the room. Unfortunately someone's already approaching you, a rather shady individual.

>"Vector? What're you doin' here? Don't you sleep some other place? Or are ya intrudin' on our privacy again?"

You better come up with an excuse, Whirlpool's operation can't get compromised just yet.

Strangely enough, she doesn't have anything on her. Her bandolier's empty, her holsters only hold air and her pocket's bone dry. Maybe she was coming here to arm herself, in which case you were at the right place at the right time.

While Nicotine restrains her with handcuffs and a ball gag, you grope the captive for her chest size, which confirms her gender. You suspect that Petroleum's building a harem out of amusement. Sadly there are no felt-tip pens or something that can write a taunt on her.

She is tossed into the locker and the four of you leave the room. It's unlikely that she's going to escape before you come back for her.

A brief while later, you arrive at the somewhat-desolate arms locker. Vector notes that the place is almost empty.

Despite having a pocket dimension for a backpack, it too has its limits and you can carry the remaining items with you. Errai has picked up a collapsible, laser-edged sword and a leftover set of protective gear. Vector tells you that it's supposed to be Nikki's, the armor that is.

>"I remember Cassie-D got very worried one day, she requisitioned a set of emergency armor for her little dear. Too bad it was too big for the child."

Nicotine's too satisfied with her tommygun, she changes her mind after your recommendation and picks up a silenced pistol with matching thigh holster.

>>497042
You request Vector if he can guard outside again, but this time, make sure he's not seen exiting the room beforehand. You also ask him if he wants anything from the storage.

>"I haven't used any of my ammo yet. Get me another first aid spray, there's -always- another first aid spray in the last locker you look."

Alright, you tell him. As he moves to his post, you withdraw Hayley's phone from your Inventory and try to contact the others. After a few minutes of fiddling and figuring out the right contacts, you manage to arrange a group meeting with the other teams. You tell them to come here by the arms locker, Vector will be outside to greet you. Through a proxy, Hayley tells you to give back her phone ASAP while Aramid sounds like he's struggling with someone clinging to him. Stoddard is the bearer of bad news, reporting Epoxy's injuries while warning of the rampant Megalodon.

You all agree to catch up further once you actually meet in person. After the call conference ends, there's still some time before the others arrive. While they're en route, is there anything you want to personally ponder or discuss with Errai and Nicotine?

>"Heya, when the dust settles, how about a little party just the three of us? Or if you want, we can roll in the hay right now. Whaddya say?"

You ponder on the idea of a threesome briefly but the mental image makes your cheeks go volcanic again. Then again, you've come into terms with the fact that you're literally a living fetish fulfillment so maybe this shouldn't be so strange. Errai looks confused, and slightly embarrassed, at the notion.

>"That sounds...amorous, yet can it be achieved? A̶̷r̶̷e̶̷ ̶̷t̶̷h̶̷e̶̷r̶̷e̶̷ ̶̷n̶̷o̶̷t̶̷ ̶̷o̶̷n̶̷l̶̷y̶̷ ̶̷t̶̷w̶̷o̶̷ ̶̷p̶̷a̶̷r̶̷t̶̷i̶̷c̶̷i̶̷p̶̷a̶̷n̶̷t̶̷s̶̷ ̶̷i̶̷n̶̷ ̶̷a̶̷ ̶̷m̶̷a̶̷t̶̷i̶̷n̶̷g̶̷ ̶̷s̶̷e̶̷s̶̷s̶̷i̶̷o̶̷n̶̷?̶̷"

You trust your instincts and her understanding before telling her that sex isn't always a ritual of devoted love or a means of reproduction. Oh yeah, the water! The one thing that got you here in the first place. Deep inside, you feel very grateful for your adventure. You decide that once this concludes, you're going to retire and live happily ever after, or at least never come back "home. Of course, you're still going to send water as thanks and insurance that you won't have to deal with assassins or something.

Although, actually getting the water might be trickier. If Slalom's intel was correct, maybe you can ask Stoddard nicely for access to the water processor. If nor, or if taking away any amount of water will deal catastrophic problems, there's always the option of cooperating with Betelgeuse and establish a form of massive water filtration.

The others arrive by the end of the next update.
>>

Huh, did we ever check this room for surveillance?
Dont want anyone overhearing the plans.
>>
>>499811
But now here's a serious question: do you retrieve the water and head back to Earth where you will probably be sent to another planet, or stay with Errai and raise a family together. Maybe you can have Betelgeuse and crew find a way to automatically send the water back to Earth while you get to stay here.

>>499824
Serious? More like silly! All that water stuff will be dealt with your porthole, as long as water runs into it, the thirsty folks back home will- oh. Right. Damn, you should've seen this coming.

By your interpretation, your PORTHOLE is merely a larger, more specialized zipper that puts water into a specific pocket dimension that's supposed to hold all that water while you go somewhere else. Once it's full, you're gonna have to empty it, preferably at home base. But you're not really feeling it, you actually like it here. Still, you've always made a point to follow your heart if it's the better of the two choices. Maybe you can ask permission for retirement or something.

There has to be a compromise somewhere, perhaps you can get another Subject to take your water for you or more stabilized FTL travel.

--

The door opens and the three of you are relieved at the sight of familiar faces, some accompanied by new ones. Quick and barebones introductions out of the way...

Stoddard's team lacks two members, and he explains that Solder had bring Epoxy to the Medical District for fractured bones. He does present a captured Felix and a repeat of his earlier warnings.

Halon looks worse for wear, recounting earlier events about their group's confrontation against a wheel-wielding warrior. He complains about the loss of his Cryofield Emitter and remarks that he might have to unmask due to damaged equipment.

>"Speaking of unmasking, I have something to show you."

Aramid promptly removes his helmet and reveals herself.

>"Aaron Midas is long-retired, I'm his daughter: Ara Midas. What? I gave you guys so many clues in the past several years. I better get this out of the way now rather in the more embarrassing future. And yeah, of course I'll keep my helmet, I'm just letting you now since I'm bound to slip someday. Also, I'm tired of the stupid voice changer."

Hayley steps forward for her own announcement.

>"My turn! I have news for all of ya'll!"

She stands beside the dame, the former draping her arm over the latter.

>"I'm officially in a committed relationship with this beautiful lady over here! Yeah, we're like super-besties now, and we're going to be married very soon! Hey helmet-head, fetch me my phone so I can show some skin here..."

For the first time since you've seen her, Nicotine is absolutely blindsided. The cheerleader's announcement effectively nullifies the blackmail and turns the tables on the dame. You can't help but sarcastically congratulate her.

>"Hot damn, the girl's a smart cookie, I give her that."
>>

Let's see what we can scrounge up to either replace or fix halon's suit. Stoddard might be able to help with the latter.
If our chamber thing is recharged, we might be able to manage tossi the suit and a few extra materials in there to fix it, and even upgrade it a little. Heck, we might even be able to adjust the stats on it for him...maybe max out durability and get mobility higher. Those suits are heavy and hard to move in, right?

You consider using your Repair Module to, obviously, repair Halon's suit but unfortunately that will have the unfortunate side-effect of integrating it with YOUR suit since it's your Repair Module, not his. Of course, you can still lend equipment but that seems to only apply to equipment, what with Errai borrowing your gun-tonfas until recently.

>"We can always just kill or kidnap someone and take -their- suits."

You ask Vector who else wears full-body armor and the like.

>"Saccharin? She's right here, in a bit of a doozy I might add. Hestan really did a number on her but she'll be fine soon."

>"Yeah"

Huh, good to know. Meanwhile the others are just engaging in casual chatter. Aramid in particular asking Karina why aren't there guards swarming the place.

Almost everyone is adequately armed thanks to Aramid's loan. You ask Saccharin, Karina and the beret-wearing girl to rearm themselves while recommending Halon to get some something he can use besides his fire axe. He opts to take the nearby fire extinguisher mounted on the wall, except it's less of an extinguisher and more of an ice gun of sorts.

>"What? As long as it works, right? You didn't expect this place to completely neglect fire safety, did you? I have to admit, this looks a lot nicer than the usual."

Saccharin and the other one return from their brief delve into the arms locker. The former seems to have brought a crowbar while the latter simply brandishes a combat knife.

>"I have a really stylish gun, I'm thinking of getting it back. It's not in the lockers though, rather it's back in my room. I know what you're thinking, and that's fine. I'll do what I can with this. Honestly, I could really use a chance to stow my laptop somewhere else."

>>502386
>>502390
A short while later, you arrive at the cafeteria Vector and Hayley located earlier. Out of curiosity, you ask Saccharin—who's confused about Nicotine's elbow nudges—about her regeneration powers.

>"Really? Have you ever read a comic book? Geez, it goes like this: If I lose my arm, I grow a new one, it's like that! I just really hungry whenever I do so. Also, it doesn't work on my brain-heart thing. Whatever it's supposed to be called."

Huh, strange.

Your group proceeds nonetheless inwards, keeping morale up by talking about what meals they'd like to eat or cook. Aramid notices the complete lack of expected resistance.

>"I know I shouldn't look at a gift horse in the mouth but don't you think this early dinner of ours is a trap?"

Maybe they were just expecting us to beeline towards Petroleum, you say.

>"Huh, well, that's possible. Although this could be an ambush, try scanning our surroundings just to be sure."

You use your helmet's BIOSCANNER function to check for any extra life signs. To your disappointment, you don't see any extra life signs outside of your party. Then again, it only scans what can be located within your peripheral vision.

A loud gunshot rings through the air and Vector falls onto the floor. You hope he's wearing a helmet beneath that hood but his sudden lack of consciousness has you worried. Aramid yells at everyone to scatter and/or take cover. Halon yells something about snipers while Errai ducks behind one of the nearby tables. You pick up someone speaking vindictively in the midst of chaos.

>"That's for banging my head against the doorway!"

The girl from earlier reveals herself and promptly disarms Nicotine with a well-placed shot.

You yell from the other side of the room, asking her how she escaped. Fortunately she's up for some light talking.

>"I'm no stranger to getting bound and gagged, you think I have no way out of my boot?"

The others? Not so much. They train their weapons on her with Betelgeuse ordering her to stand down.

>"Surrender immediately! You outnumbered and outgunned! Any further resistance is futile!"

>"Am I now? Outnumbered maybe..."

The nearby wall crumbles and The Megalodon charges into the scene. The ruinous arrival distracts you long enough for a bullet to bounce off the corner of your visor—messing with your HUD's functions.

>"And that is for stuffing me in my own locker, you dirty scumbag!"

Most of the others are either focusing on the mech or are about to.

THATS IT.
NO MORE MS. NICE WHIRLPOOL.
TIME TO MERGE WITH YOUR HARPOON AND ANNIHILATE THAT FUCKING MACHINE. YOU CAN TAKE IT, YOU'RE FASTER THAN IT BY A LONG SHOT. And to make the odds even better for you, vault over and steal vector's stealth unit, slap it on, and go invisible if we can manage it.

Whoever still has a gun should try to shoot at any containers of liquid that might be found around her, for whirlpool's ability. We only need one person doing that, the others should focus on that fuckin cowboy. Halon should make the floor around her iced up to limit her maneuverability options, while the rest (like havelyn) do what they do best.

Everyone else spreads out and distracts the mech by shooting at its visor, drawings its attention while Halon goes in to freeze its legs, while you rush in, shooting at her along the way while you also pull out your harpoon.

You brandish your ADVANCED BREACHING HARPOON and vault from cover. Once in plain sight, the cowboy (or cowgirl, whatever) keeps you from standing still with suppressing fire. At least you're keeping her busy.

>>504962
While you're distracting her, the others wail on the Megalodon. Several accurate hits break its camera, forcing it to fight defensively as its primary input is impaired. Halon moves in and freezes the mech's lower servos. He disengages early before it retaliates.

>"That should be enough! Whirlpool!"

Now's your cue. With your harpoon in one hand and a gun-tonfa in another, you make your way to the mech, returning fire all the while. She's a sly sort, however, and weaves out of the way.

>>505099
Halon can't freeze all the things, it would deplete too much from his CRYO EXTINGUISHER.

Meanwhile the eccentric aspirant complains about her situation.

>"Aww man, had I known this would happen I would've went back to fetch my gun! Welp! Might as well!"

She tries to move out of cover but Rigel drags her back and reprimands her.

Break the mech's legs, should be easy to shatter at least the frozen one.

Aramid, do you have any sort of grenade you can use to flush the cowboy out of cover for some clear shots? Nonlethal preferrably, but hey, use what you got.

The mech's tactics only allow a quick strike. Its armor plating is still too strong, but you feel like -something- is affected. Maybe you dislodged a cog or something. You back away before anything else happens.

--

For the duration of this segment, you are now Aramid. You regret not bringing your grenade launcher, and you're primarily built to take on angry crowds instead of armed assailants. Still, you remember that you have super strength for an ability and anything can be a grenade if you throw hard enough. You take one of the large cafeteria tables and toss it in the general direction of the gunslinger. She tries to interrupt you by shooting at your helmet but it's already too late: the table is in the air.

>"What in tarnation!"

She dodged the flying furniture yet the audacious display surprises her...along with almost everyone with you. (Whirlpool's exempt, obviously, she's fighting)

>"ENOUGH! You can take this, right? Just do it!!"

Aramid gives you to the FASTBALL SPECIAL by hurling you towards the Megalodon. Quickly thinking, you orient yourself in time before drilling right through the mech's central chassis, destroying whatever vital components you happened to pass through.

Before you hit the wall, you disengage your KRAKEN'S BEAK and throw your harpoon right at the cowboy. You miss by a noticable margin and she just stares blankly at the failed attack, distracting her long enough from Halon closing in.

One short cyrogenic discharge later, you have a Arctic Avenger on your hands. The eccentric aspirant asks for your next move.

>"Well, that was a thing. So, what're we gonna do with her now? She's still breathing...barely. Also, are we gonna have that early dinner? I think Saccharin's raiding the pantry already and I want me some ground beef."

You walk over to assess the fallen Megalodon. Yup, it's dead alright, or on its way there at least. There's some faint noises like whirring and sparking but it's nothing that should worry you. Damn, you're good.

Afterwards, you advise Aramid to secure the perimeter from any further infiltration. She agrees with your assessment and posts her two subordinates by one of the main entrances. Stoddard keeps watch by the huge gaping hole the downed mech created. Havelyn, Nicotine and Karina stands by the other entrance. Entrances in the kitchen and storeroom is watched by those who are planning on cooking for everyone. Halon, being a fireman, knows enough about first aid and assesses Vector with Rigel's aid.

>"Haha! Get wrecked, Sue! How does it feel to be literally cold-hearted?"

Meanwhile the eccentric aspirant is feeling elated at frigid captive. You're starting to suspect that in-fighting is a serious problem.

>"What's wrong, feeling cold? Don't worry, I got just the thing to heat you...up? Oh hey, Whirlie, got any ideas for her?"

Sure you do.

You carefully sit the cowboy upright and brush off the layer of ice that's been coating her. You strip her one article at a time, taking your time since she's frozen stiff (maybe literally). So far you've confiscated a pair of revolvers, a pocket full of ammo clips, a sheriff's star, a pocket knife, a lockpick and a small kevlar vest.

>"She's more packed than me, and I'M supposed to be the commando."

You catch yourself from going any further but it seems your beret-wearing partner is getting too into it. You tell her to cut it out and mention how there are multiple law enforcement officials in the area. If anyone, not necessarily the aforementioned policemen, sees the three of you playing patsy...

>"Ahaha...ha...sorry about that. So, uh, we gonna take her away to the brig or just toss her into the closet? I figure the meat freezer's too cruel, y'know? Or we can continue this somewhere else."

You tell the eccentric aspirant to stay put and behave herself before heading off to reconcile the rather awkward moment with Rigel.

>"So, are you done with your salacious solicitations?"

Yeah, you ask him if Vector's gonna be alright.

>"According to Halon he's still alive but not in a good condition. He was wearing a thin helmet underneath his hood, emphasis on 'thin'. So the good news is that he's okay for the time being, the bad news is that he won't be fighting anytime soon and that you're gonna have to go on without him. Oh, but he did tell me to give you this."

The man hands you the wrist device that allows him to turn invisible.

>"I don't really know how it works but he says that you should return it to him when you're done with it. I don't know if it syncs to your suit or not though. Have fun."

On the corner of your sight, you see Halon and Sirius leaving the the hall

>>510429
You return to the eccentric aspirant and the captive Sue beside her. Hayley barges into the scene right after you withdraw the smartphone from your inventory.

>"Hey, that's my phone, I want it back now."

You tell her that you want to take a few more pictures before handing it to her.

>"Sure why not, as long as I'm in it."

You take a picture of the gunslinger with the two others beside her. Note to self: buy your own phone.

You notice Aramid setting the table she threw earlier. Meanwhile, Sue gets dragged away by Hayley and the aspirant while Nicotine says she'll be out for a while.

>"Hey Wis, I'm going to watch over these three hooligans."

Alright then. You walk over to Errai and invite her for your second dinner together.

>"I suppose this calls for celebration, our relationship has remained intact for one whole day. Forgive me for being unfamiliar with romantic customs."

Perfectly okay, it's the little things that count. The two of you sit down by one of the intact tables, it's a bit dented and worn but it's still serviceable.

You do kinda miss the sensation of eating and it's nice to stimulate your palette every once in a while. The policeman from yesterday approaches your table and...hands you a plate serving some fruits

>"Sorry about that, none of us really knows how to cook and it would take too much time to prepare a full meal for everyone. So you two get some fruits, the others get some toasted bread, steamed rice or other quickly-prepared foods."

Errai stares at the mundane fruits with wonder while you struggle to remove your helmet. With some struggle you manage to open up a part, allowing you to take it off.

You decide to give Errai a personal demonstration by starting off with the apple. It's simple to eat, simply just chomp on the surface and avoid eating the core. Your lover's entranced at eating something different for probably the first time in her life. She tries to return the favor by feeding you the remaining apple and ends up almost clogging your mouth like a pig. And much like a pig, you scorf down the apple because it's much tastier than her food paste.

You tell her that one of the nifty things about fruits is that you can eat them on the go, at least most of them. If ever it's time to move, you can simply pack the fruits up in your inventory but it doesn't look like anyone else is finishing soon.

Next comes the orange. You explain to Errai that unlike the apple, it must be peeled first because the skin is typically inedible. Despite the gloves you manage to avoid accidentally squirting some citrus-y juices. You press one of the fruit chunks against your teeth using your lips, squeezing the fluids out of it before spitting it out. Meanwhile your lover is simply chewing a quarter of the (thankfully-peeled) orange in her mouth, flinching from the taste. A drip of juice drools from her mouth.

It looks like you can still finish your meal on time.

Much like the oranges, you tell Errai that Bananas have to be peeled before eaten. It's soft, sweet and not as watery as the orange. You show off some of your Earth trivia by telling her that bananas are propagated differently and that the banana peel is a staple in slapstick comedy.

>"Interesting, Earth culture really is as varied as the archives would say."

Once you've finished your fruit-only meal, you wait for the others to follow suit. It's not that long, the other tables are close if they're not already done. With some more tinkering, you put on your helmet again. Afterwards you ask Aramid and Betelgeuse to gather the others.
