It’s probably best that you save the nurse from your father- you cannot imagine him giving up, after all.

You open your eyes, finding yourself in a darken hospital room- though light peeks in softly from the edges of the curtain.

Pulling the sheet aside, you lower yourself from the bed- and quickly realise two things.

One, you’re still in your dress-

And two- that you’re exhausted.

It takes a minute to right yourself as you nearly collapse under your own weight, but eventually you’re able to find a rhythm, and walk slowly towards the door, using various things in the room for support.

As you do so, you recognize the room’s other occupant- Nori, who is slumbering peacefully while hooked up to all sorts of medical equipment.

You hope she’s alright- she was out for quite a while the last time that happened- and it took Ebisu-sensei Genjutsu to knock her out of it. You have no idea how your attacks affected her….
Regardless, she’s in the right place for medical care- and you have a defenseless nurse to save.

Hearing father getting ready for another round of verbal sparring, you pull the door open slowly, and poke your head outwords.

Tsuki's overriding motive isn't profit and business in everything, we've seen this in multiple characterisations and situations over this quest.

Before anyone can react, you pull the door open, launching yourself towards father. You’ve caught him off guard, and nearly bowl him over, but the larger man holds his ground and swallows you in his embrace.

“Ah- well it seems she’s up and moving around. Now if you would excuse us, nurse?” You father says smugly whilst patting your head.

The nurse clicks her tongue, but doesn’t making any further movements to shoo him away.

“Please take care not to wake the other patient, then. She’s in much worse condition than your daughter is.” She grumbles, before walking off.

Though he’s remained silent, you can see Danzo is here as well, quietly observing as always.

The three of you funnel into your darkened hospital room, where your father helps you back to your bed.

“So, how are you feeling, Tsuki? Not many can boast about fighting a transcended Jiinchuriki and come out unscathed.” Danzo muses.

The comment only serves to anger father, however.

“I’m going to have a long conversation with the Fourth, Tsuki. Surely he’s been aware such a creature living inside his daughter- and he made no move to stop her! Such a thing could’ve easily torn a lesser shinobi to shreds.” he says, his frown turning into a deep scowl.

“I doubt you’ll finds it fruitful, Yoru.” Danzo advises. “He’s likely aware of Tsuki’s abilities, and as far as we are aware, his wife Kushina is still the main host of the Demon Fox. At best, he’ll apologize, but nothing will come of it.”
Your father balls his fists, before taking a deep breath.

His fingers unfurl, and instead of angry, your father just looks sad.

“I shouldn’t be getting worked up, I know. You’re likely to face things even more dangerous than this in the future- and despite my worrying, you came away mostly unharmed, as far as Danzo could tell. How are you feeling, my dear?”

“It was an impressive showing, to be sure. I figured it might come to this, so here- take one of these. It won’t return you to full strength, but should help you recover quickly.”

He hands you a small brown pellet, which you quickly swallow.

“It’s a Soldier Pill. Usually they’re given to shinobi engaging in warfare or very dangerous missions where near constant alert or nonstop fighting may occur. In a few minutes, you should feel your chakra reserves replenishing.”

“They sound useful indeed. Why are they not used on more common missions?” you ask.

“The effects can be very addicting- if your body gets used to relying on this medicine to augment its recovery process, you might become unable to recover nearly as well without them- possibly at all. As such, we use them sparingly.” Danzo explains.

Sure enough, you already feel a little better than before, though you still won’t be at full strength for a while.

“So then, if you’re giving me this, I can only assume I haven’t missed my next fight?” You ask.

“No, though the two matches you did miss were a letdown. After they ended, they gave everyone an hour long recess. Thus, we came here.” Your father says, handing you an updated bracket.

“Fuu and Temari advance, huh? How did it play out? I’m more than a little disappointed Shikamaru lost.” You question, looking up from the brackets.

“The first one was a bit odd, and really riled up the crowd after your big blowout match. The match had barely begun before the Aburame boy just gave up. His opponent seemed confused as well.” Yoru says, leaning back in his chair.

Thinking back to Shino’s match with Kankuro, it makes sense how quickly he was able to dispatch the puppeteer- and it seems his fortunes were reversed, this time.

Danzo shakes his head.

“That one was even more odd. The young Nara seemed to have everything well in hand- and then he gave up as well. Though, knowing his father… I doubt his reasoning was anywhere near as farsighted as the Aburame boy’s was.”

Going about the wrong way with this product.

Part of the reason why the soldier pill is not widely used is due to the effects it has on eventually making the body less able to replenish its own chakra. This means that most soldier pills will run into the same problem.

Granted, that *is* exactly what our goal was with this whole ramen stunt in the first place, but that's different. We were *trying* to be as cold and evil as possible to show how good of a ninja we can be.

It's not about whether or not we could beat her. We may or may not have been able to without that stunt. It's just, we wanted to prove we had the drive to use unorthodox tactics and really psyche out our opponent in order to turn an uncertain victory into a certain one. It's a competition about how to be a dirty stinking cheater ninja, and that's what we were trying to be. In that context, we have no reason to feel bad, sure. However, what we threatened to do had consequences beyond the fight.

Replace it with actual combat: we don't have to feel bad about punching Nori or stabbing her or burning her with fire, but we can and should still feel bad that she was punched and stabbed and burned now that the battle's over. And we would have if it had actually caused her significant, permanent injury that lasted beyond the exam. Problem is, we dealt emotional damage rather than physical, so we actually need to check and make sure we didn't hit our teammate too hard. Which is also insulting in a major way, but we can't help it because we're worried and also a twelve year old girl.

It's contradictory, but it's human and we're allowed to be human.
