You’ve got a job to do here, and you don’t know how much time you have left to finish it. You don’t know if the Krauts have got some kind of surprise in store for you somewhere on the sub. And Freedom is looking to run straight into if if she’s just gonna rush straight into uncharted territory like an idiot. That Agent wasn’t kidding when he said that these Majestic people weren’t the most competent bunch. Freedom’s blonde locks flutter as she runs down the hallway to an unknown fate, you pull Diane into your arm, locking her arm into the crook of your elbow as you make a made dash for the golden haired magical girl. She struggles against your grip as you do, whimpering as you keep her from trying to slaughter whatever remains of the crew of the submarine. You leap forwards, managing to grab her by the hand just as she’s almost about to leave your reach. Jeez, she’s heavy as a pile of bricks. Maybe all it has something to do with all that metal they shoved into her. You struggle to pull her back, and she gives you a quizzical look as you do.

“Hey, what gives? We’re supposed to send this hunk a junk to the bottom, and I’m not leaving until we do.” You roll your eyes at the girl’s protests and drag her and Diane back to the makeshift fortification that they just left.

“And I’m supposed to get you outta here in one piece! You’re justing making my job harder!” She pouts, you turn away from her, in an attempt to resist her try at persuading you. The other Majestic troops are already tending to their fallen comrades. One’s even helping

“C’mon, let’s get these boys outta here!” You shout at them, they look up at you in apprehension, but are quick to follow through with your order. Freedom’s toned arms wrap around Archer’s body, hefting her over a shoulder. Your little group of soldiers and magical girls makes their weay through the labyrinth of corridors that compose the massive submarine. Things are going well, for now. Until you hear the tapping of boots on metal, but see no one.

Uh oh, not them again.

You barely have time to call out a warning before a glowing blue baton slams into your ribs, hard. You can hear the cracking of your ribs as they splinter. You wheeze as you stumble back from the invisible soldier’s strike.

[x] Ignore them, you gotta get out of here.

Is there still some other majestic girl in another part of the ship?

You clutch at your ribcage in pain, trying your damndest to find your attacker. The fact that he’s invisible is making that very, very hard. The tip-tapping of his boots against the sheet metal helps a bit more, but he could be anywhere on the ship. There are no helpful dust clouds to give you an edge here. You narrowly duck under a blow that was meant for your head, the sours scent of anti magic filling the air around you. You limp back to the group of soldiers, finding safety in numbers from your invisible assailants.

“More of those cloaked jerks! Watch out!” The troops snap to attention, taking aim in every direction possible. They look on edge and guarded, and you bet that the prospect of invisible Nazis hasn’t soothed them at all. The group walks slowly, carefully, with the wounded in the middle of the crowd of soldiers. Even Freedom takes aim with her mechanical arm cannon thing, carrying Archer in her other. You could practically hear a pin in here, until you hear a Majestic soldier grunt in pain as a baton finds it’s way into his stomach.

“There they are light ‘em up!” One of them yells as he fires wildly with his M1919, filling the corridor with lead. A few Krauts materialize into existence as the bullets tear through them. The man doesn’t stop yelling, or firing. Freedom sighs in relief as the pair of cloaked soldiers fall to the ground, dead.

“Well, that takes care of that! Now, let’s-” She’s cut off by the sound of the batons battering aside hapless Majestic soldiers, they’re making a break for Archer. Batons slam against Freedom’s normal, flesh and blood arm, causing her to yelp in pain and drop the unconscious girl to the ground. They scoop her up, and try their best to use the close quarters to get away from you all with their prisoner.

But they’ve forgotten one thing.

“Hey! Kidnapping’s against the law here!” Josie smiles as she slams her fist into the back of one Kraut’s heads, the man stiffens as if he’s been struck by lightning, and then falls face first to the ground with a loud clang.
“What exactly are you planning on doing with an unconscious girl, hmmm?” Diane asks smugly. She’s a blur in the air, slicing through the arms of the soldier carrying Archer with a quick, clean cut. The fencer catches the magical girl in her arms without missing a beat. Freedom quickly takes the Archer from Diane, hugging her like a massive teddy bear. You sigh as the adrenaline fades from your blood.

“That invisibility stuff’s cheating! These Krauts don’t play fair!” Freedom frowns deeply as she walks with the group.

“Nobody said they had to.” Josie chimes in quickly after you

“They can cheat all they want, but they still haven’t found a solution to a good haymaker to the face!”

Yes, they have, and it’s what Hexenjagers and Hexentruppen wear.” You meander through the hallways some more, until the crisp cool air of the sea surrounds you. You wrinkle your nose as the bitter taste of saltwater assaults it. The sound of gunfire signals that your problems aren’t quite done with. Freedom stomps her foot against the ground in frustration

“What?! What don’t these dumb Nazis have?!” You’re about to ask the same question when you look up. Oh. Flying men. Good. They rake the sides of your helicopter with machine gun fire, zipping around it like a swarm of bees. The pilot struggles to fend them off, ar at least throw their aim off.

The flying troops hover in place as they keep their attention on the helicopter. Those things aren’t agile at all, and these three Krauts only need to get lucky once to send your only ticket back home into the drink. Another stream of lead going into the helicopter reminds you that you need to think of a plan, and fast. The thing looks beat up, but still functional, the pilot strains it to swerve and dodge to the best of the cumbersome aircraft's ability. And to his credit, he’s not doing a bad job, all things considered. One of flying soldiers glances downwards, and spots your group of soldiers. He swoops down at you like a bird of prey, quickly closing to gun range. One of the soldiers gets the idea rather quickly, and yells at the rest of the men

“Get down! Incoming!” The troops scramble to find something to put between themselves and the bloodthirsty soldier. You follow suit, hoping the metal protrusion that you take cover behind is strong enough to survive a barrage of high caliber bullets. The pinging and zipping of bullets fills your ears and you press yourself to the ground harder in desperation. You’re having bad memories to your time in Europe. You spent too much time doing this during your time in the war torn continent. Your ribs scream at you to stop, despite them having healed slightly.

“Wyatt! YOU’RE STICKING OUT LIKE SHIT ON A STICK! KEEP. YOUR HEAD. DOWN.” One of the soldiers yells at his comrades, who responds a bit too late, catching a bullet straight in the in the shoulder. You turn your attention away from them and give Erika a glance, she stares back at you blankly for several seconds, before she recognizes what you want, gaze shifting to a knowing one. The soldier shooting away at you speeds over your heads, and turns around for another pass. Erika squeezes an eye shut as she takes aim at the circling soldier. The thunderous roar of her gun sounds, as she sends a high explosive shell screaming through the air. The armor doesn’t help the soldier as he’s consumed by fire and shrapnel, and falls into the cool Atlantic waters. His comrades look at you, and quickly shift their attentions to you
>>
>>644692
“Hey Krauts, take this!” Freedom steps out from her shelter, taking aim with her arm cannon, squeezing her eyes shut in fear as bullets bounce around her. She whimpers as bullets ricochet into her flesh. The blue stream of energy tears into the soldier. You take the opportunity to fire with the Hush Puppy as their attentions are focused on Freedom, sending a green bolt of energy into the remaining soldier. It melts the armor of the soldier, you can practically feel the anger of the soldier focus on you, He turns his machine guns onto you, letting loose a torrent of lead at you. You’re preparing to meet your maker when you feel yourself pushed out of the way. Hot fluid soaks into your uniform, but you’re too concerned with shooting this idiot down to find out what it is. You squeeze off another shot at him, the energy burning a deeper hole into his armor, and then into the soldier. He follows his comrades into the drink. There’s something heavy pressing you down onto the deck of the submarine. You go to push it off until you realise what it is.

An unmoving, bullet ridden Erika. You count at least 5 bullet holes in her, blood pouring liberally from them. Her breathing is very slight, and if didn’t know better, you’d say that she’s dead. You say nothing as the Majestic troops urge you onto a helicopter, or when the Majestic asks you how things went. You glance over at Erika, and the poor, overworked medic working on her.

The cargo bay of the transport is much more cramped since you last remember it. Shoving around two dozen soldiers and six magical girls into it is probably the culprit. You struggle to move through the morass of people to find the the surface that the field medic is operating on Erika with. The man glares at you as you approach, and you take this as your cue to not disturb him. You lean against the wall closest to Erika, hoping that he won’t mind too much. The medic seems too preoccupied with his field surgery to care about you. You creep your hand over the table and interlock your fingers with Erika. The hand instinctively clenches into a fist as your fingers brush over it, and you let them rest against the top of her cold, clammy hand. You feel a hand clap against your shoulder, and you almost ask Josie what she wants, only to come face to face with the blonde haired American Freedom. The third American magical girl. And you aren’t too sure about that.

“Wow! You did really great out there! Looks like you Bureau girls aren’t as useless as the Colonel says you are!” You don’t know if you should take that as a compliment or not. It definitely sounds like she did. The warm sounding, drawl of an accent that her voice has makes it hard to interpret anything she says as an insult.

“Uh, yeah, thanks. Just another day on the job for me.” Her smile doesn’t leave her face, if anything, it only gets brighter.

“You’re so cool! How can you stay so calm under that! I was on the verge of crying!” Her eyes light up, and she talks as if you’re some kind of celebrity instead of a co-worker. This is also the first time someone’s called you ‘cool’. Ever.

“Experience, I guess. You learn to not sweat things like getting shot at. Y’know, since being a magical girl’ll fix that right up in a while. Unless they’re anti magic rounds, those are bad for you.” You think you spot her frown, but she’s smiling again before you can question her about it.

“I was meaning to ask you, about that.” You make a vague gesture at her, and she looks down at the arm cannon attached to her forearm. She shuffles in place, but her happy expression hasn’t changed at all.

“Well, I’m not the most magically capable gal, so they decided to give me this stuff! After they tried other ways, they really wanted me and Archer to have superpowers.” So she’s not really a magical girl, huh. Maybe some kind of a half-gifted girl? Like Major Adamska? And what did Majestic do to her to let her use that arm gun?

“And how exactly does that thing work? Do you know?” She shrugs, before sweeping it up to examine it for herself.

“Something about sucking the magic out of me and using it through this? I can do all sorts of cool stuff with it!” You have first hand experience with exactly what she can do with that contraption, and you don’t want to be on the business end of it. You stroke Erika’s hand as you keep questioning the girl.

“Huh. And it doesn’t hurt or anything?” She shakes her head energetically

“Nope! Just makes me real hungry when we’re back on base, but Archer says I have a bottomless pit for a stomach anyways, so it doesn’t matter much!”

“Speaking of her, did you ever go on any other missions with her? Or is this your first one, maybe?” She strokes her chin in thought before she replies.

“Erh, this is my first rodeo, eheh. I know, I do some dumb stuff, but I’m trying to stay disciplined.” Yeah, that does need some work.

“Figured as much.” She frowns and stomps her foot against the helicopter.

“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?!” You don’t answer her as the helicopter approaches HQ.

“Seeya later!” Freedom waves as you file off the aircraft together, Erika being carted off on a stretcher.

Majestic troops and agents intermingle with each other as well as Bureau personnel, speaking to each other as quickly as possible, The severely wounded are quickly taken inside, probably for Asclepius to take care of. Erika’s among them, but her wounds are practically closed. You can’t even tell that she’s been shot, much less by machine gun rounds. You get out of the way as the medical personnel rush into the building, while Freedom is escorted by what few Majestic agents are still here. Josie yawns and stretches, reaching for the sky, and you can almost hear the sound of her back cracking.

“Huh, wonder if they’re gonna let us talk about this kinda stuff. I deserve some kinda reward for working on vacation. Do you think we’ll get overtime pay?” You shrug, the Bureau usually doesn’t like talking about their operations, and you doubt that this’ll be any different if they weren’t willing to release information about your actions in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Diane scoffs lightly as Josies speaks

“They’ll never admit that they let Nazis into New York. Can you believe the outrage if they did? There’d be an angry mob here everyday.”

“Hum, that’s not fair. Covert stuff’s boring.” You have to agree, you’d much rather fight a straight fight. Speaking of not fighting a fair fight, you need to have a pointed conversation with the Krauts that you found in Purgatory Alley. Das Herz or something, and that creep who tried to tentacle Enrico. You walk down into the building, keeping going downwards until you find yourself in the cold, dark hallways of the brig. You shiver slightly as you makes your way to the cells that contain your Kraut prisoners. Most of the other cells are empty, and you don’t know if you should be happy about that or not. You stop in front of one of a cell, covered by a massive plate of sheet metal, you slide the eye slit open and stare into the room.

“Das Herz?” You ask experimentally, half expecting him to not answer. You wonder why they need so much security for some old man. You should probably stay on your toes, you don’t know if he’s hiding some kind of secret trick up his sleeve.

“Yes American? You have questions?” He doesn’t seem distressed at all to be the prisoner of his enemies.

“I’m the one asking the questions, Kraut.” You snap angrily at him. The man lets out a smoky laugh in response.

“Indeed. Well, proceed.”

The man’s shark like eyes stare at you through the slit in the middle of the cell. They don’t move, and stare through you and into the deepest recess of your soul. You try your best to match him, to seem like you’re undeterred and unafraid of the man. He’s behind a stainless steel metal door that seems rather thick. You have nothing to worry about, right? If he had some way to escape, then there’s no way that he wouldn’t have tried to already, right? There’s absolutely nothing to worry about. You still have to wonder just what he did to warrant such tight security.

“Okay then.” You think on what question you should ask him first, maybe something that the Bureau agents haven’t thought of already? Or maybe you should start off lighter, get him to loosen his tongue before you hit him with the big questions. You idly tap your foot in thought, the sound of it echoing down the brig.

“So, I heard that you and the rest of the Krauts weren’t exactly on speaking terms. Got any clue why?” He chuckles, sounding very much like the old man he seems to be.

“Bah, it’s only because some people aren’t willing to take the extra step to ensure the Fuhrer's success. Yellow bellied cowards, the lot of them. They don’t truly love the Fatherland like I do. Some even want to dispose of the Eternal Fuhrer himself! Outrageous! Can you believe the nerve?” Yes, you kinda can.

“Hm, moving on from that. I noticed that your men had some strange rocks or something that you used to cast magic. I’m sure you know that normal men can’t do that.” He doesn’t miss a beat as he answers you, it’s as if he’s been rehearsing for this interrogation for months before hand.
“There’s lots of fascinating things you can find in the ground if you dig deep enough. Especially if they’re from Druidic and pagan cultures. I guess those untermenschen are good for something, after all.” You wince as he says that German word, but don’t let it get to you for too long. You’d have to file that away for later if you ever find yourself in Germany.

“Speaking of weird magic, what were you planning on doing with that Enrico girl? Must’ve been something important if you were willing to force her into it. Was it some kind of sacrifice maybe?” He chuckles again, smokey voice filling the cells.

“Something like that, that worm would be better off dead than whatever she is. We wanted to help her, understand our point of view a little bit better.” You don’t even know if you want to know how they planned on doing that. You rise from the stool in front of the door, and he sighs deeply as you do.

“No more questions, hmm? I was expecting you to be a bit more forceful like your other compatriots. I’m a much stronger man than I appear to be.”

“If you say so.”

You scoff as you walk up the stairs, away from the icy air of the brig and the crazy Germans you keep locked up there. Das Herz chuckles darkly as you leave, probably a final attempt at intimidating you to do something. He has to be bluffing, there’s no way that Dracula would be able to set foot here, alive at least. You might as well humor him for a little bit, if only to send a couple more clever quips his way.

“Is she now? An you really expect her to rescue a couple of idiots who thought is was a good idea to work for her?” You can sense a tinge of anger in his voice as you speak, you smile at him through the slit, making sure that he gets an eyeful of your pearly whites. You can practically hear him fume in anger, practically helpless to do anything to you.

“I expect more from her than you, you filthy American dog!” Your smile doesn’t leave your face. He really must be crazy if he’s thinking that Dracula’s going to do anything for him. If you know your Krauts, they don’t take failure very well.

“I’ll be sure to roll out the red carpet for her when she shows us. If she manages to, in the meantime, enjoy your stay here.” He growls with hate and fury, but still finds no way to attack you for your comments. You laugh all the way back up the staircase, finally coming back out to the main floor of the Bureau’s covert headquarters, most of the Majestic people are out, replaced by the Bureau’s own agents. You wonder how these people manage to stay awake at all times of the day. It’s probably why they’re all so weird. Thinking about this only reminds you of your own fatigue, which is made much worse by the lack of adrenaline and other chemicals flowing through your veins.

You might as well check in on the Majestic troops, they’ve taken quite the beating when you pulled them out of the Kraut sub. Sure, they might not be the best or most experienced of soldiers, but they did do a good job when the going started getting tough. And you haven’t met with that other magical girl, Archer was it? You don’t know much about her other than her codename, and the fact that she's British. Majestic might be the Bureau’s competition, but there’s no reason you can’t be polite about it. Freedom seems to be a nice enough girl anyways. Your Dad didn’t raise you to be an inhospitable jerk. You make your way to the medical ward of the headquarters, which is practically filled to the brim with medics and doctors. It looks like this is where all the Majestic personnel ended up. Most of the wounded ones seem to be on their feet, probably thanks to Asclepius’s miraculous medical capabilities. You take care when moving through the crowd, trying your best not to bump into anyone. You spot Archer sitting on a stretcher, touching her bandages, wincing slightly as she does so. She glances over at you, giving you a pensive stare. You try your best to defuse the tension that’s clearly visible on her face.

“Freedom told me, I’m Victory. But you can call me Vicky!” You offer her a hand, and she slowly takes it, shaking it firmly.

“Archer. But you can call me Molly.” She brushes a few locks of her hair out of her face, it softens slightly as you keep your smile on her

“So you work with Freedom, right? What the hell happened to you?” She frowns deeply as she sighs.

“Freedom really is boneheaded sometimes, she never thinks before she acts. So when she dove into the sub I ran in to try to help. But a bow isn’t really all that much help in a sub.” You should have figured that she would use something like that with a codename like Archer. But you don’t see any bow on her, if she’s anything like Freedom.

“Bow?” She nods, and stick out her arm straight forwards. Metal fragments emerge from notchs in her arms, floating in place, thanks to some blue energy. Molly motions with her hand, and they all come together, fusing into something that resembles a bow.

“This thing, how I do magic.”

“Huh, so you’re pretty similar to Freedom.” She nods slowly

“I think so, but I like to think I’m just a smidge smarter than her.” Hm, you don’t know about that just yet, but you’ll take her word for it.

“Well, it was nice meeting you, Molly.” She gives you a curt nod in response.

“Likewise, Victory.” She pauses for several seconds, before tapping you on the shoulder, you turn to face her.

“Do you happen to know anyone named Josie? I think she goes by the name Uppercut nowadays.”

You raise an eyebrow at her. The metal shards that make up her bow quickly separate into their original forms, and find their way back into her arm. It’s kinda weird to see that happen, creepy even. But you’re sure that you’ll get used to it in due time. Your first thought is to wonder if she’s some kind of fan of Josie’s boxing persona, but then you recall her stint with the mob. What if she’s related to one of Josie’s victims come back for revenge. Either way, she knows Josie’s codename, meaning she might be closer to Josie than either of those two possibilities. You wonder if it’s really wise for you to give her Josie’s information. But she’s a big girl, and can take care of herself. Besides, some wannabe assassin’s going to have to try really hard if they’re gonna try to take Josie’s life. Your raise an eyebrow at the girl, who directs her eyes towards the ground as you stare at her.

“Yeah I do. Josie Jonas. She’s the one you’re looking for, right?” Any facade of cool has vanished as you say this. If she stares at the ground any harder she’s going to start an earthquake with her eyes alone. If she is an assassin, then she’s the most uncertain one you’ve met. Or maybe that’s the plan, to get your guard down before she off Josie.

“Erh, yes, well. Just tell her that Molly Lancaster was looking for her, okay?!” She practically yells this in your face as she shoots off the table and stiffly walks away from you as fast as she can, and as fast as the crowd will part for her. Molly Lancaster huh? You recall Josie being best friends with someone named Holly Lancaster, maybe they’re related? Or maybe they’re even the same person, just come back to life? Now that would be weird.

You figure that it would be better for Josie and this Archer girl to talk about it between themselves rather than have you interfere with their personal affairs. Drama in the workplace never ends well, and you do your best to avoid it. You really should let Josie know about her little admirer. Would be weird to have her appear unannounced at your apartment in the middle of the night. But you’re fairly certain that she’s not “that” kind of admirer. At least you hope not, you’ve got plenty of crazy magical girls to deal with in the Hexenkraft. You don’t want to add another one to that list. You watch as she runs as fast as her legs can carry her from the medical ward. You watch her leave, rather tickled at the whole situation. You smile as you rise from your seat, getting ready to leave for home before you’re stopped by the Handler and another man, blue outfit bearing the Majestic logo on his breast pocket. Freedom flanks the man who’s presumably her own superior. Both officials stand sternly and

“Something else you need?” That might have come off as more rude than you thought, but you’re too tired to care. If you have offended your Handler he doesn’t show it, stony face unmoving as he stares at you.

“No, you’ve done quite enough. I would not want to overwork you.” You shoulders sag as he says this. Finally, a break, and hopefully one that’s longer than the ones you’ve had up to now.

“No, I wanted to inform you of our new agreement to cooperation that we have recently successfully penned between the Bureau of Special Research and Action and the Majestic Group.” Freedom steps forwards, that luminescent smile back on her face as she looks at you. The Majestic officer speaks up after the Handler.

“Yes, and you’ve already met your allies. From now own, they’ll be carrying out their own operations, but will always be in your own area of operations.” He hands you a small button, the the grates of the radio on the back side.”

“This’ll allow you to be in constant communication with each other, provided the weather is cooperative.” You examine it closely from every angle.

“How?” The Handler gives you the predictable response.

“Classified. Well, do you have anything to say, Victory?”

Those big blue eyes that Freedom is gazing at you with could practically melt your heart. As much as you’re uncertain about her skills, or her experience, or her reliability under fire, you can’t justify denying her as long as she keeps those puppy dog eyes on you. It would be nice to have some other magical girls ready to help you out. That’s not to say that the boys that usually accompany you aren’t up to snuff. It’s just that the Krauts usually have some kind of new toy that makes things really hard for them. You sigh wearily as you turn to face the Handler, a forced smile on your face.

“I’d love to work with you guys! You did some mighty fine work back on that Nazi sub, and I’m sure that you’ll do great.” This only makes Freedom’s smile double in both size and brightness, and she seems to be holding herself back from wrapping you up in a bear hug. She gives you a salute, face adopting a stern look.

“I aim to impress, ma’am! You can count on me and Archer to blow those Krauts to kingdom come no matter where they show their heads! We’ve got your back no matter what happens.” Her enthusiasm is infectious, and you give her a grin in response, a genuine one. Whatever happens, you guess you can count on Freedom to be happy to do it. You can only hope that she’ll keep her upbeat attitude throughout her service. Most Bureau girls are too bleak for their own good, it’ll be nice to have a little ray of sunshine to lift everyone’s spirits.

“Any idea when our first dance together will be, Handler?” He nods slowly, withdrawing a stack of papers from somewhere.

“It will be in Europe. After our interrogations with the Nazi prisoners, we have discovered that they’ve unearthed a cache of magical artifacts in many parts of Europe. I’m sure that you’re already encountered some of them already. We are interested in acquiring them. And any research that the Hexenkraft might have documented. Most notably, one of the sites that we are interested in nears the hometown of Dracula, in Austria. The Bureau believes that these places will assist them in understanding the nature of magic. Including the ‘magical girl’ phenomenon.” Right, as hard as it is to believe, Dracula is a human being, with a home and everything.

Wait, did he just say that this’ll help the Bureau understand magical girls? Your ears perk up, listening in rapt attention. And with that, he leaves you, dismissing both you and the Majestic personnel.

You finally make your way back home, the Josie’s head resting against yours as the cab ferries you back to the apartment. You mumble something about a girl named Molly to her, and she grunts in response. The girls stumble their way into the makeshift beds, leaving you to find your own bed in your room.

Only to find a unconscious Joan asleep in it, a half filled bottle of some kind of alcohol clutched tight in her hand. You poke her in the cheek, nothing.

You’re pretty sure how your older sister got herself in this situation. And you really should yell at her for drinking herself to sleep like this. Sure, she might be dying, and sure, she might have a stressful job, but that’s no reason for her to abuse her body with drinks. You’re job is ten times more stressful than hers and you’ve never drank until she pressured you into it! She might not be making things worse, but she’s definitely not making things any better! You poke her again, and she swats at your finger away like a fly as you do, she mumbles something angrily in her sleep, brow creasing as she does so.

“Athena...quit it, I’ll tell Dad!”

Looks like the Sandman’s really gotten to her. Guess that means that waking her up is out of the question, you consider lifting her back to her own bed, but you’re not sure if you could support her weight. And she might chew you out for waking her up, not to mention the weird situation carrying her in your arms would create. You shudder slightly, that’s a can of worms that you want to stay as far away from as possible. You trudge your way to her room, collapsing into the fluffy goodness that is her mattress. Her job might be more cushy than yours but it definitely pays better. It’s like sleeping on a cloud made from the finest Egyptian cotton. You’re tired body practically melts into it, and sleep comes as easily as it ever has for you.

...

You find yourself in a green meadow. It’s beautiful, you haven’t seen plants this bright and colorful in your entire life. And the grass is greener than ever. You look down, and find yourself sitting in a chair, and wearing an uncharacteristically frilly dress, a cup of suspiciously red liquid is filling it to the brim. You look up to see...

Dracula. In a similar get up as yours She smiles at you, blatantly showing off her pearly whites, the tips of her fangs glinting in the sunlight.

“Oh Athena, would you be a dear, and lend me a drink?” You shake your head, in an attempt to clear it. This is a dream, it has to be. Her fangs gleam even bright as she asks.

You frown deeply at the girl. You’re still not sure if she’s actually Dracula or not, all you know is that she looks like the vampiric magical girl. There is a very small chance that this girl is also blonde, tall, lightly tanned, and with a pair of fangs that are more commonly found on a dog rather than. Of course, there’s a really, really small chance of that being true. The girl doesn’t seem dissuaded by your show of displeasure. She sips at the contents of her cup, still smiling warmly at you. You take a whiff of it, it smells like like iron, metallic. Just like you expected it to. But wait, this is a dream isn’t it? This is your mind, and you can choose what happens in it. You think of a teapot, filled with some nice darjeeling. It appears in your hand, with a slight pop, you dump the contents of your cup on the ground, and replace it with the tea you just conjured up, offering the drink to the magical girl. She frowns at it in displeasure, probably fuming with anger at you. She breathes in deeply as she recomposes herself. Her hand reaches for your neck, it’s cold touch making you shiver involuntarily, it strokes down it slowly, making you recoil away from her touch.

“I was thinking more of a drink from you. But I can see why you’d refuse.” She giggles darkly as she sips from her drink again.

“Are you totally nuts? No way! Why bother asking? You aren’t the kind of person to just ask for things, you know.”

“Because I’m not a monster, like you seem to think I am. Ask Angelika or Eloise” Her frown almost makes you feel bad for her. Almost.

“My experiences with you say otherwise. And even if you’re not, the girls you keep company with sure are.” She gives you a dismissive wave with her other hand as she continues drinking the blood in the porcelain cup.

“I do what I do because I love you, all of you misguided girls, even you loutish Americans.”

“Let me guess, we’re the magical ubermensch and you want my help to make it by betraying my country”

“Almost. You don’t have to betray anyone. Just give me your hand in alliance, you won’t have to harm an American ever. It’ll be our world. You can even keep the pigs in your Congress in their place. You might even be Queen.”

Next she is going to offer to save our sister right? Skipping the offer of ice cream money completely...

There’s really nothing she could say to could say to convince you that she’s anything but a crazy Nazi. Her actions speak louder than her words, and you’re sure that the people she’s killed or tortured or experimented on would agree with you wholeheartedly. She’s just a snake, and you don’t want anything to do with her. Even having her in your mind makes you feel filthy and dirty, like your mind’s been shoved into the gutter by her sheer presence. How did she even get into your dream? Did she somehow find some way to do it herself? Maybe it was thanks to Das Herz that she managed to worm her way into your brain. Either way, you want her out of here as soon as possible. You cross your arms as you glare at her. You wonder if you can shift into your magical girl form in your dreamscape, you wonder if it would be any different from the real one.

“I told you this when you found me in the Mid East. I won’t be part of your schemes, Nazi. Say what you want, but that’s that. You’ll have to try much, much, much harder if you want this gal on your side. Now get outta here before I make you.” Dracula’s facial expression doesn’t change, and she sets the cup of blood down onto its saucer.

“Very well, Athena. Since you are so opposed to diplomacy then you leave me no choice. I know a certain girl who would like very much like to rearrange your insides. As long as she leaves you in workable condition.” It’s good that she’s dropped any pretense of being anything other than the savage that she is.

“Out! NOW!” You scream at her, shooting up from your sister’s bed with a start. You dab at your forehead, finding it drenched with sweat. You quickly examine your surroundings, no meadow, no tea party, no bonkers magical girl vampire. Everything’s normal, you glance outside your window, to find the sun peeking out from the horizon, the day’s just started for the people of New York City. You look back to find Alma sitting at a chair.

Wait, that’s Alma in your house. After you’re sure that you locked the door.

You’re about to scream until you remember what she’s capable of. She places a finger of her lips, making a shushing noise as she does so.

“I heard you were leaving the Big Apple soon. Just wanted to say goodbye.” She rummages through her pocket, before coming out with something, a necklace with one of the runestones that the Krauts here used.

“Dunno what it is, but figured it would see more use in your hands rather than mine.” The rune’s a simple one, it almost reminds you of a jolly roger, except the skull lacks teeth, and the bones are more like lines. The white paint of the rune rests on a black, chalky mineral.

You splutter and stammer as you find the teleporting magical girl smack dab in your bedroom, and offering you a magical trinket that used to belong to the Nazis. Questions run through your mind at a mile a minute. Your gaze goes from the runestone necklace and then back to her. You should have expected this at some point. And you should count yourself lucky that all she brought as a necklace instead of a bomb or something like that. The thing looks harmless enough, but experience has taught you that those things’ true colours show themselves when someone uses one.

“How’d ya get out of HQ, Alma? I thought you were under arrest, you’ll get in a lot of trouble if they find out about this.” She looks at you like you asked why the sky was blue.

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I can teleport. I thought I told you about this already?”

“Erh, yeah. But what about the arrested part? Staying inside your cell is a pretty big part of that.” She shrugs

“I’m only under house arrest, and I even told the guard that I was coming over! There are agents all over the place, by the way.” She whispers that last part conspiratorially. Figures.

“Well, I’m not touching this thing with a ten foot pole until the Bureau knows what it’s gonna do to me if I do.”

“Fair enough, speaking of which, you really ought to get there soon. The timetable for your deployment to Europe has been pushed up to today.” This only causes you to stammer and babble more.

“H-how did you know? And why?”

“A little birdie told me. Well, an agent who doesn’t have an inside voice did.” With that, she pats you on the head, like a child. The urge to slap her across the face is rising. But before you can she vanish from sight, leaving nothing to prove that she was ever here in the first place. What a jerk. Your problems don’t end there, however, as Joan’s voice rings throughout the apartment

“Athenaaaaa! I’m hungry, cook me somethin will ya!” You groan as your sister yells at the top of her lungs. You rub your temples as you go about cooking breakfast for everyone.

“So we’re finally gonna hit these Krauts where it hurts hm? Bout time, I say!” Josie says in between mouthfuls of eggs and bacon, not waiting for the food to cool off before forking more of it into her mouth.

“I wouldn’t get too confident, we’re being aimed at the heart of German territory. They won’t give up easily.” Josie spears another hapless piece of egg before she replies.

“Good! Don’t want things bein too easy anyways.” Joan’s face is buried in her sweater, probably suffering from the effects of her drinking binge last night. Her breakfast goes untouched, until Josie tries to steal some egg from her, resulting in Diane’s swift hand smacks it away from your sister’s defenseless plate.
>>
>>657629
“Welp! Once more into the breach then!” Josie stands from the chair, leading your group out the door. You lag behind, writing a small note for Joan.

“Deployed again, don’t know when I’ll be back. Please please please take care of yourself - Athena.” You leave it next to her

The girls are wise to keep quiet during the cab ride to HQ, speaking about something like this in public isn’t the smartest idea. The cab drops you off, and you’re quickly herded into the briefing room. Freedom and Archer sit on one side of the room, while the others are unoccupied, presumably for you. Freedom’s quaking in her seat. A map of Warsaw is pinned against a corkboard, with labels all over it. There are a lot of tunnels on it. The agent drones on about the elements of the ruined Polish city.

“You will be deployed to support the Polish resistance. They believe that the occupying Germans have been using some sort of magic to augment their troops. In addition, strange men have been seen among the SS troops fighting the resistance. Identify the nature of these individuals, and infiltrate any command center that they might be using.”
