>Name Changed Edition

You were not but a humble maid for a fanciful estate in Almace, but alas you were cast out!

Escaping a fate most terrible, you found help along the way, starting out with barely rags on your back, to now a tenuous member of the (very) lower middle class. By the grace of God, fate, or perhaps just luck, your life has changed dramatically in the last year and may yet change still. Something which brings fear as much as anticipation.

I'm somewhat surprised OP took that name.
Also since this school has books on alchemy we can study it.
We're gonna be here for 6 years anyways
>>
>Last 'twas left off

Alicia (you!) had tracked down the half-dragon through various means to Alri, in the Almese middenlands. You approached her reasonably and fairly, explaining to her that you wanted her help and the benefit of alchemical ingredients gotten from her.

Unfortunately, she reacted in an unfair and hostile manner and with the assistance of her minotaur bodyguard, severely injured you and caused you to transform into your werewolf state in order to survive. Against whatever odds however, she had a cruel change of heart and more or less forced you into her service.

>Currently you've traveled with her to the capitol, where she plans to continue living her life. She's allowed you to live in her house though which she barely uses, and is supplying you with the sorts of ingredients you need. As of yet though, you haven't gotten an important factor to yours and others' safety, a containment suit. What do you want to do?

I felt it was more representative than Cast Out, as much as I (and I imagine others) may have liked. And indeed, if the quest takes on a particular change of tone or pace, the title can change again.

I think for safeties sake though, for archiving purposes it can continue to, and always go under, the name of Cast Out! Quest.

To what salt are you referring? That of the half-dragon who fled like a spanked child? Of her foreign alchemist who you trashed in a duel? Or of her cheap-shotting minotaur who'd do better at a dairy farm than in a city, and you could probably beat in a fair fight anyway?

At any rate a containment suit seems to be the most obvious issue for now, though you might not see Mags for awhile since she went back to school at the academy. Maybe at the week's end hiatus.

>>703229
>Ask Avor to go buy one if he's in the house if not wait for her to come back

Avor might have trouble getting around the city unopposed. Well, it's not like it would be a cakewalk for you, but you can pass by better than him. At the same time, you also are fairly familiar with the capitol even if you haven't been here in some years. You wonder if your old hideout is still available, for example?
>>
>>703258
>Fled like a spanked child
Better that then standing and fighting us.
Don't really want to be on the receiving end of any magic she might have. We don't know how powerful she is. The magic of dragons is no joke.

Let's check out our old hideout.
At nightfall obviously.
>>
>>703258
We're not risking going outside and getting caught, we'll wait for her to come back if there's a courier service in the Capitol send her a letter telling her we need her to buy us that suit and deliver it to us
Write that as kind as possible
>>
>>703274
>>703272
Conflict!

Do you want to risk going out or not? Certainly there is a danger, but then the capitol is a big place and you're not unfamiliar with it, and you're used to/have the skills to avoid being caught.
>>
>>703284
Voting to not risk it
>>
>>703284
I guess we can stay until we get the contamination suit.
We'll have to leave eventually though.
>>
>>703292
>>703287
That's fair that you'd not want to go out, simply not worth the risk. However how are you to get the suit? You know places that could make something to your specification to keep you from possibly infecting people, but if you can't go out you can't go to have them made.

You suppose you could send one of Maggy's servants, but do any of them know the capitol well? The fellow named Julien seems like the best bet, since the young street urchin boy ___? doesn't seem the sort to be able to properly find and obtain a special item like this for you. Either way the choice is yours.
>>

Just this session. And of course while playing as Mags you can switch to Alicia if you want or need to for short periods at a time, but that's always by choice.

>>703320
So the next day when you manage to grab his attention, you ask Julien if he can obtain for you an outfit matching the specifications you wrote down for him. You give him a recommendation or two based on your past experience, but he thinks he knows a place that would work and have it done quick.

So he goes off to take care of that, you've got a full day ahead of you in the house you imagine, if you aren't going out. The little lizard, Avor is there with you since he can't well leave, and the goblin lad Rafe is there from time to time though he likes to go out now and seems quite amazed and curious about the city.

And of course the urchin boy, who you learn works for a duke in his household, as part of some sort of long running scam to steal from him.

>What do you want to do?

>>
>>703343
You don't have *everything* you would like, and you lost everything you'd had, when you transformed in Alri to escape. Maybe you can get some of the missing things you'd like later, but currently you have enough to work with at least.

So what would you like to experiment with then, alchemically? The ingredients of the half-dragon amaze you in their potential, and from what you understand she'll only become more powerful. Turning lead into gold seems like something that would pale in comparison, if you could get a scale of hers were she to become more a dragon.
>>
>>703355
Maybe we should start looking into a cure for our lycanthropy?
If we don't have something for recording stuff we should have someone fetch us a journal.
>>
>>703355
Make sure the equipment we have works as intended and make some test potions like the cushion one from the inn
>>
>>703363
A cure is the thing you've always wanted most, but it's always eluded you. It's such a complex matter though, maybe it best that you get used to working with these dragonic ingredients first?

You can find a journal in the house no problem though, Mags isn't one for decorating, nor does she have taste, but she at least gets useful things for the place.

>>703368
You figure you can start to test out potions and droughts you're familiar with, but using ingredients from Mags in addition.

>Feel free to roll, and maybe if there was a specific type of potion effect you had in mind? Similar to magic weaving for Mags, Alicia is a skilled enough alchemist that she can brew wildly creative or outlandish potions and elixirs.

In the meantime you converse with Avor who's taken to running and climbing all around the house, but when you start to work he takes interest. He wants to know what you're doing obviously, and wants to know why you don't go outside? You ask about his tail, he says by now the scar is all that remains from where it was cut off by the foreigners for his involvement in Maggy's silk business, but he looks forward to you making a potion for him which could regrow it.

Flight might be a bit much, unless you're really willing to devote a long period of time to it, but something like a lower pull towards the earth so you could say, jump over a house, is quite possible.

That's your main benefit that puts you above most other alchemists, you learned through very hard experiences the skills needed to brew potions on the fly and in a very short amount of time.

>>703418
>91

Regrowing a tail? With a dragon ingredient, a hair belonging to Mags? Easy peasy, you have it brewed in some tens of minutes. You give it to Avor to drink as a surge runs up his body and he goes stiff as a board, before falling over unconcious. He'll be out for awhile, but once he wakes up he's going to have the beginnings of a tail, to eventually grow to its original length.

As for decorating, what did you have in mind? Anything is better than Mags, but is your taste any good? The house is three stories, not including the attic and the lower level/boat dock to the river. Generally though she hasn't furnished the place beyond her room, and it's pretty sparse. You get the feeling she probably came from a humble background, not used to

>>703491
Well it's pretty ostentatious, and expensive, but it seems like it would look good to you. Next time you see Mags you can suggest she spruce up the place. At least it would make living here easier for you.

Which reminds you, what's your living arrangement? There's only three bedrooms in the house, one of them being Maggy's, so you're going to have to share a room with someone. Maybe best for it to be Avor, since you can't infect him so the risk of living closely is reduced, but then sharing a room with Julien would keep it split, humans and non-humans.
>>
>>703517
Avor seems like the safest choice, let's stay with him

we could make one and test it out of town later, and store the explosive one in water down in the basement just in case.

>>703517
Maggy might not like it if we accidentally infect someone. better be safe than make trouble.
>>
>>703561
>90

You've got enough ingredients from her to make another good batch of potions. You also understand that she had an agreement with Aea to show up each day and give spit for this purpose, you'll probably want to get something like that going for your use now.

But you make a smoke bomb you feel could be immensely powerful, and a pretty good flaming chemical bomb though not as much. You'd love to see what they're capable of though, compared to your normal creations of them.

>As for Alicia, for her alchemy skill the main determinant will be how much time she spends making potions. She's uniquely able to brew things on the fly, though it can go wrong for her, as evidenced by the many burns and scars across her body. As such, when making potions with her from now on, go ahead and specify how fast you want to create each potion or drought, and this will affect the chance that things could go well, or badly in their creation. A potion which might take Aea a week at least, Alicia can make in under a minute, but her rushed methods and the volatility of the potion, will make for a greater chance of mishap than if she took longer.

>>703531
For the purposes of safety, you decide to room with Avor, since both Rafe and Julien could possibly become infected by accident from you.

That evening Julien is going out to purchase various foodstuffs to stock the pantry with, something which is long overdue. Is there anything you're keen on?

>Personally you like meat, the more raw the better, but that's not exactly something you can keep from spoiling easily. Unless maybe you get creative?
>>
>>703604
Can we make some food conservatives? And I feel like we should start getting used to cooked meat if our food starts to spoil before we can eat it

Also, later op, gotta sleep
>>
>>703604
then I suggest that we should take as MUCH time as possible with MAXIMUM precaution.
at least, while we're in the capital. don't want to blow up maggy's house or anything.
unless we're outside, even then it should be slowed down a bit more than our previous standard. we have a good source of ingredients now and unless situation calls for it, we don't have to rush it. rushing won't help in leaving us time to learn everything coming from our experiments!

>Is there anything you're keen on?
Cured meat&bread sounds good. Salty, sure. But lasts long enough and doesn't stand out much than raw meat. also some variety of veggies along with oranges for all of us. Let's at least fill this place up with decent foodstuff.
Julien is going to stock up with a decent amount of everything right?

Also, from now on, we need to be extra careful in everything that might be seen as odd. Only sticking to average stuff. Nothing fancy. we should only stick to those, or maybe something above-average, something that may be considered a luxury rather that very weird thing to buy.
I'm sure raw meat is sold and is being used widely but I just don't want to take chances.
Being careful saved us before, continue doing that.
>>
>>703630
There's the usual methods like salting stuff and keeping it sealed or in honey. But Alicia is capable of some pretty impressive feats of alchemy, if you wanted to do something creative like creating ice and whatnot.

>>703639
You can take it slow then, just that the possibility is, she can make potions at blinding speed if she needs to. Taking it safe, would take her anywhere from a few hours to a day depending on the potion, and some top tier advanced ones a week. Alicia is a quick learner though so there's never a risk of her learning something improperly due to haste.

As for food, Julien was going to get the basics, if you want things more exotic like fruits it would need to be up to Alicia to do that buying herself. You keep a note though to be careful, but sometimes it might be hard, particularly as your instincts rise and the beast within stirs. Something also you need to keep track of, the lunar cycle. Unlike a cursed werewolf, you aren't forced to change by the moonlight, but clear nights like it get your instincts going and the urge to hunt and run through the woods rises. That, and of course rising activity of normal wolves, their presence can get you going. Normally in town that's not an issue, but if you start to hear their howling, it can drive you to transform.
>>
>>703673
Can we make a noise blocking potion to coat the walls in to prevent any howling from getting in?

Also, is there a way to control our transformation and stop it while already transforming?
>>
>>703673
>But Alicia is capable of some pretty impressive feats of alchemy, if you wanted to do something creative like creating ice and whatnot.
>Taking it safe, would take her anywhere from a few hours to a day depending on the potion, and some top tier advanced ones a week.
this gives me an idea. we begin researching for a chemical and/or procedure that can be used to supercool objects for preservation.

on the top of my head, a portable, appliable version would be supercompressing a liquid(which is safe to eat or not depending on what it's going to be used on) that traps heat rapidly and evaporates, and making a container that can apply these in. these could be useful for preserving things on field for a short time.

a more permanent version could utilize the same procedure, but the reactions would be contained inside a container. that way we would be able to create a supercooled storage to store foodstuffs in. way more preservative than just storing things in a cooled place. tightly sealed containment using some kind of material made by alchemy could be a bonus.

and the final step would be to figure out a way to make these products with more mundane and commonly found materials, a loss of efficiency might be needed but if it cuts down the costs then it can be used as surplus equipment and would be more popular if it's performance is still in working parameters.

the best part is that we would be supplying the fuel for these things, providing us a steady stream of income(but would require the previous step of using mundane chemical/materials to produce cooling fuel to manage the demand). also we can store fresh meat for our needs!

another potion that could be useful is invisibility. not meant for mass production. using the newly accessible high quality material, this might be very much possible. take as long as possible, with exceptional care, and memo down anything interesting, like always, but with new enthusiasm. these might really help in a pinch when used with smokebombs if successful!

>That, and of course rising activity of normal wolves, their presence can get you going. Normally in town that's not an issue, but if you start to hear their howling, it can drive you to transform.

we should start modifying the basement with more sealants. a closeable door in the basement docks, and a soundtight trapdoor using whatever material we can make that we know that absorbs sounds well.
>>
>>703708
>and making a container that can apply these in.
*that can contain these in and apply whenever needed
I fumbled.

also should I roll for the ideas, or should I wait until we get ready to start off properly?
>>
>>703673
Also, we should talk to Maggie about welding some shackles into the wall in the basement to strap ourselves in in case we start to turn, we cant be running around the Capitol as a werewolf that would just bring in trouble for everyone
>>
>>703719
yup. we don't want to make problems for maggie.
this is our second chance we may never have again. we need every measure to keep it. by getting out of trouble and not showing.
>>
>>703688
Yeah you could probably whip something up like that, to keep the sound out. Maybe easier just to have enchanted earmuffs or something though if you need them.

As per the disease, you can transform whenever you want to, if you rile yourself up or get emotional enough. Once it starts though you can't stop it, at least not safely, you'd end up like partially transformed and possibly kill yourself as a result. As for transforming against your will, as long as you keep your instincts and feelings in check it shouldn't be a problem, and of course keeping removed of certain triggers, the most obvious being wolves. There's other things like feeling in danger, or feeling fear, which can be sharp and sudden reasons for your body to transform against your will, but with careful management and self control you can repress this (though it may not work if the fear is legitimate and can't be pushed down).

The only time you can't stop it no matter what, is if you get seriously injured to the point where you would only survive if you transformed. Like when Tora butted you through the building, a normal person would have died, so to survive your body transformed on it's own.

>>703708
Yeah that's definitely something you can do, and not even needing ingredients from Mags to do it. Right now you could easily make ice, but some sort of alchemical cooling agent, with time and experimentation you could come up with something useful for that purpose.

As for invisibility, that would be a top tier potion, and could be dangerous. Like with magic, potions which change your appearance can either function badly, or even be permanent. You know of a case where an unfortunate alchemist was rendered permanently invisible from trying to cover up scarring.

As for the basement, as long as you're not down there it shouldn't be a problem. Certainly it can't transmit sound past the first floor, so as long as you're not like, in the kitchen helping make dinner one night and wolves are outside howling, you shouldn't be at risk.

>>703713
This day's experimenting went by with the things you made, so you can roll but they'll be held in waiting for the next time you experiment, probably tomorrow.

>>703719
The problem with shackles down in the basement, is that the transforming process happens fast. If you start to shift and can't keep it down, you're not going to be able to make it to the basement in time and shackle yourself up. Probably a smarter thing to do you figure, is to just have the doors to each room reinforced and strong locks put on them. That way wherever you are in the house, if you start to shift, you can make that room a temporary prison. None of this of course, will make any difference if you start to shift while out in public though, or outside in general.

You have to remember though, that even as a werewolf, you've done enough experimenting on yourself and trying to stop it, that you still retain some clarity, depending on the presence of triggers.
>>
>>703751
>As per the disease, you can transform whenever you want to, if you rile yourself up or get emotional enough.
>(and more)
you know, I just realized something to prevent transformations being a problem in the capital.
sedatives. weaker and powerful ones.
now that we have a stable place to live in, we'll be safe if we stay in that place, even if we're knocked out by our own drugs. we can create a potion/injector that we can carry around in the house and pop the weaker one in whenever we feel agitated. during fool moon we can stay in the basement and experiment, and use the powerful one to knock ourselves out if we start to feel it.

>As for invisibility, that would be a top tier potion, and could be dangerous.
so, again, we should be taking our plenty time to make sure everything goes right. test it on rats. guard every procedure. set it up so that it spills away to the lake if it has a potential to go critical and volatile. whatever our life experience taught us, or whatever we know, anything that can make it safe!
oh, and we should ask maggie if she can copy a 'alchemy 101/beginner' guide book from the library. we might be missing out on something that all the rich and noble guys started with, and maybe we could find some procedure that could help.
>>
>>703775
Sedatives is actually a really good idea. Addiction could become a problem, but in theory it should work.

As for the invisibility, yes as long as you take your time then, you should be able to do it relatively safely. You wouldn't have a shortage of time or ingredients to use.

It does seem like making use of Maggy's school's library would be a great resource, but not for anything beginner level. You yourself, were trained by a professional in alchemy.
>>
>>703798
although it wouldn't have been a viable option for her in the past though. getting incapacitated outside, while having a brand is bad idea. also being a female. and a werewolf.

>you should be able to do it relatively safely
'relative'? oh well, considering it's experimental I guess that's the best we can go even with maximum precautions.

>yer a professional!
okay then, ignore my previous comment on that part, ask maggie to copy the useful ones instead.
>>
>>703805
Well the joke is if they're dumb enough to try and get frisky with you, they run the risk of getting infected since you know from experience the disease can be transmitted sexually.

You can try to be as careful as possible with the invisibility and other top tier potions when you set about making them though. And when you can, you'll ask Mags for copies of the higher tier alchemy learning books and journals.

---

So a couple days later and Julien brings you your containment suit. Useful not only for preventing you from spreading the disease by accident and hiding your identity, but also a good protection against alchemical mishaps. Also it can tend to give you a presence of authority you've found.

>What do you want to do?

Feel free to specify which potions you've been working on the past couple days. If it was a top tier potion, specify which one.
>>
>>703834
>which potions?
finding a chemical coolant that is safe for people to eat. average precaution.

preliminary planning, setup and preparations for the first part of invisibility potion down at the basement. extreme precautions. a mechanism has been prepared to dump everything into the water just in case, and can be triggered by pulling a wire that is connected to the stairs in the distance to the brewing sets.

sedatives. basement level. above average precaution with the stronger one. weaker one using conventional ingredients, and super potion using maggie ingredients.

chemical crafting to make sound ablative material. should be easy, make enough to make a sound tight trapdoor and rim for said trapdoor to prevent outer sounds from entering(or vice versa).

by the way, how spacious is the basement/dock?
>>
>>703834
>Well the joke is if they're dumb enough to try and get frisky with you, they run the risk of getting infected since you know from experience the disease can be transmitted sexually.
>from experience
i just noticed this.
please tell me it wasn't done under threat, violence or without consent
>>
>>703852
That's a lot of work for a couple days. I'll say the pick one large effort, and one small effort. Anything using ingredients from Mags can be the large effort (so invisibility or powerful sedative), and everything else can be a small effort.

As for the size of the basement dock, it's not that big. Coming immediately down the stairs there's a small area enough to to fit a table large enough to seat 8, as well as those 8 to seat it. Beneath the stairs is a grated hold that could store a few barrels or a prisoner you suppose. Then either side of the boat area is a walkway which two people could walk shoulder to shoulder, so could maybe store something like some barrels along either side. They both go as far as the archway, which opens to the river, and could be gated to stop the boats from being stolen or the house being broken into from this way.

>>703854
Oh no, nothing like that. Alicia transmitted the disease to her late husband via their love life, who was killed as a result of transforming, a guilt she bears. She's avoided that kind of physical intimacy ever since, at least while untransformed.

Nowadays as a known werewolf and with the brand of one, only a fool would try to get intimate with her, by force or no. And really, it's not like they could force her anyway, an experience as traumatic as that would cause her to transform.
>>
>>703871
start up the invisibility. this is going to be a very long project. strong sedative can wait for now. if anything we could chug multiple weak ones in a pinch.

for the basement, we should store some alchemy ingredient here that's resistant to moisture. leave the grated hold empty for now.
the watergate should be closed at all times. unless it's really hard to open?

About that. I was planning on making the trapdoor soundproof so that we can hide IN the basement during the wolves howling, or at full moon.
Is the gate to the river not bery soundproof? Because if it isn't we might need to work on that. Or someone to work on it.
>>
>>703897
Invisibility potion it is, you figure it to take a week of being careful, and experimenting.

As for the watergate, there isn't actually one. You assume there used to be, and there are fittings on the stone archway opening to the river for such a gate, but currently there is not one. Considering the house was in disrepair when Mags bought it, the previous owner might have just had the thing removed. To get a new one you'll have to see a smithy about it, have him come check out the fittings and size.

>>704148
As usual your reasons against removing the brand hold the same, that if you were to get caught for any reason, they would just brand you again to make up for the ones you branded over to cover. It's true they pose a danger, but unless you're planning on someone seeing you with your clothes off, hiding them isn't any more difficult than it ever has been for you.

>>704172
I said plague doctor suit but that's not exactly what Alicia's got on, just the closest thing I could approximately describe. Like, she's not got the beaky mask, just a basic concealing one.

>>704305
There isn't really a way you'd be able to make the watergate soundproof since it's a gate. If you're concerned about a place to hide out during times of transformation risk though, it'd probably be better to do the attic, and Alicia takes precautions like having sound-blocking headwear, stuff like that.
>>
>>705552
So while we have Alicia focusing on invisibility potions can we check up on Maggie.
I have plans.
>>
>>704185
Anyway so yeah, that's fine. You got Alicia settled in and a replacement for her suit so she can go about town better, as well as some duties to occupy her time with like potion making. You can return to her later to check progress, or see about other things she could do, like checking places she used to know in the capitol like her old hideout.

For now though, you resume play as Mags.

---

It's been about two weeks since you've been back in the capitol now, and are settled back into classes. It was quite hectic at first since there was not only a lot of hullabaloo about catching up with classes and what that would mean with having to have personal teaching to catch up what you missed. Fortunately Beatrice, your roommate, took notes for you and listed down the readings you would have to do and such.

One of the big issues you had to go through was an unofficial inspection to determine your potential risk to the school. It seems your dragon eyes were obviously noticeable, and caused quite a bit of concern and interest, so some of the staff wanted to evaluate if your new changes meant new risk.

Eventually though you managed to get back into the groove of things, and made it through a normal week of personal teaching and catch up study.

A whole range of expected question from, does it hurt having eyes like that, do you see things differently, can you set things on fire by looking at them. Mostly student gossip, the faculty are more academic in their curiosity.

A fair amount of people though, from what you've heard, are superstitious and think you can curse people with the evil eye if you look at them and wish it so. That's a pretty common superstition in general though, so it makes sense it would be worse for you when you eyes are that of a dragon.

At any rate you try asking around and on the grounds find Christopher, the curious fellow whom you're sort-of friends with and have helped one another academically. Since being back you've met before and talked, but this time you ask him about the guy you're after and he says he can go look.

---

You're left waiting at a bench where Vela, the big foreign girl, comes to sit and talk. She asks if you'd be interested in a seasonal feast they're throwing in the part of town where her people congregate, she's heard some rumors about you being taken to drinking so would love to have you along.

Eventually though a refined looking fellow accompanied by some other young men approaches. They don't go right up to you, but he sits on a bench across the way a little, and eventually speaks up, saying he heard you were looking for him. This would be Mr. Tarrasque, name of ___?

Vela speaks up and says he'd like to have it outside, so there wouldn't be any rules or anyone to make sure it doesn't go overboard. He responds firmly and tells her that's maybe how they do things in her country, which angers her.

>>
>>706447
Let's go to our house and hang out with Alicia.
She must be lonely.
>>
I updated the pastebin a bit, to show more recent archived threads, as well as the addition of many known characters.

>>706469
You figure to go to your house for awhile, and see how Alicia is doing. Rafe and Avor greet you warmly when you get there, Avor proudly showing off his regrown tail. You're also a little surprised to see the house has some more furnishings. Not much, but definite decorations, and the kitchen is fully stocked too! You'll have to thank Julien for that later.

When you find Alicia, she's down in the dock room, having set herself up a little alchemy lab. You notice she's replaced her containment suit, and is quite busy working away at something. When you ask her, she says it's an invisibility potion, which is both surprising and intriguing since you know trying to turn invisible with magic is very hard and also dangerous.

>Anything in particular in mind? Or just spend time chatting with her?

She asks how was your week at school, and what your plans are for the few days break you have?
>>
>>706652
>How our week was
Fine.
Challenging some guy to a magic duel
>Ask her how she got lycanthropy.
>>
>>706672
When you bring up a magic duel, she asks if you need any help, and tells you not to get killed. Else she have to start learning necromancy.

When you ask her about her disease, you sense she's uncomfortable and visibly stiffens. She speaks easily enough about how her father was a hunter who had some small local fame for having killed a couple dangerous monsters. One such was a female werewolf, and in revenge her mate attacked and infected Alicia while her father was out. It happened at a young age, she recalls being only seven or eight at the time, and she's been a lycanthrope ever since.

Beyond that though she doesn't seem to want to talk about her life between then and now, and you can sense a strong guilt, and regret on her.

>>
>>706786
Some small solace that her father did kill the werewolf, but he got the last laugh since she'd already contracted the disease.

>>706796
You try to change the subject to alchemy. She says she was approached during a bad time in her life by a very prominent alchemist, the best in Almace whom offered to try to help her find a cure for her disease. She learned from him over several years while he, and eventually them together worked to try to find a cure. Unfortunately in her desire and rush to find a cure, she caused an alchemical accident in which he died protecting her. She's been on run since, but always trying to improve her skills and still pursuing the cure.

You can tell it was hard for her to admit this, but she says she wanted to be honest and felt you should know if you were going to have a working relationship. She doesn't say, but you can sense she hopes you don't judge her badly for it.

You pat her on the shoulder as a friendly gesture, but it's honestly pretty awkward since this is a painful topic for her. She at least appreciates your reaction and understanding though, and you can sense she feels a little bit better about talking on the subject with you.

>>706900
She says tracking you was actually pretty easy and she assumes she wouldn't have been the first, or is surprised she was, to find you that way. Basically all she did was follow the trail of potions sold by Aea using ingredients from you. Said potions were obviously quite strong and easy to find and follow. Eventually she last tracked you to Rea, before you left westward (towards the goblin homestead and the former kobold camp, you know) and she just guessed you'd be heading back the way of Alri in returning to the capitol. If you weren't, she'd resume tracking and eventually find you again.

That, and her natural tracking ability is obviously really good.
>>
>>706998
>Let's chat a bit about nothing important until it's time for the duel.
>>
>>706863
Well that's unfortunate.
From now on though, we should reccomend to take it easy. We're not on a time limit or something. This time we so it right.
>>
>>707019
You while away the time together, eventually figuring to ask her upstairs to talk, rather than doing it in a dirty dock. At times Avor or Rafe wander in to eat something or hang around by your legs and listen in, but it's a fairly pleasant time and the duel fast approaches before you know it.

Saying your goodbyes and her wishing you luck, you make the neccessary preparations and then head out to find Aea and Tora before going to the meeting place. It's Vela after that, who is both impressed by Tora, and delighted to meet Aea who is from the same country she is. The two of them converse loudly and happily in their own language as the four of you make for the west gate. Beyond it are some outer housing and a ways past are the usual exterior encampments for folks not allowed into the city. After waiting awhile though you finally notice a carriage approach, wherein is David and his buddies, arrived for the duel. Leaning out of a carriage window, he asks where you want to do this then? Probably best not within sight of any guards or the like. His friends are rather speechless at seeing Tora.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>707140
Let's head further out.
Maybe in a forest clearing.
>>
>>707153
You figure the farther the better. You might be hard-pressed to find proper forests around here, but you can probably locate some small glen off the road a ways.

Finding a suitable location, David's chums designate the area for the duel to take place in, a rough circle in as much space as you have, while he asks if you have any requested rules, or just standard procedure?

Whatever you do, Vela says not to let him choose any terms, she doesn't trust him not to find a way to handicap you.
>>
>>707187
Ask him what's the standard procedure
>>
>>707210
You hear one of his friends try to stifle a laugh, in the sense that he can't believe you'd ask such a stupid question.

David though quite calmly explains the typical rules for a magic duel, like agreeing to use and stick to the same magic type, keeping to the designated area, no outside help beyond intervention for physical wellbeing if the risk is severe.

The biggest rule you note though, is that it would be a turn based ordeal, basically you take turns each casting one spell, alternating back and forth. Rather than say, just casting as many spells as you want as fast as you are able.
>>
>>707264
>Same magic type
That sounds like no fun
Maybe do away with that one
>Turn based
We can handle that.
But who goes first?
I'm fine with you going first.

>>
>>707275
If you don't want to stick to the same magic type, what other magic types do you know?
>>
>>707285
Do you mean like aether based magic?
Also I assume we can move freely around the arena regardless of turns.

Because I want us to be able to use the spells we made.
>>
>>707297
Yes that's the kind of magic you both use, the idea being you both stick to that form of magic. Like if you also knew blood magic, but in this case agreed not to use it.

And yes you can freely move around. You shouldn't be trying to kill him though, unless like, you want to.

If everything is agreed then, he'll go first since you allowed him to.

>66

With a gesture, he puts up a magic barrier first.
>>
>>707351
What happens to our clothes when we cast aether clothes?
And will anyone see us naked if we cast it?
>>
>>707351
Also what do we get for our higher innate magic power.

And the modifier doesn't make him more accurate right?
>>
>>707384
Are you so sure yours is higher than his?

At any rate, your magic power is represented in your ability to take the desired of three rolls. He gets a flat +30, you get three rolls to choose from. The modifier isn't intended to make him more accurate, just so that he isn't likely to fail hard.

>>707355
If you case aether clothes, they'll burn your clothes where they come into contact, so probably yes. Maybe not right away but if you move enough your clothes will get burned off by contact.

After that, if the aether clothes dispell or you lose them somehow, then anyone looking would see you naked.

Well it's your choice if you want it as like a protective bubble, or a barrier-type wall. The bubble is weaker but surrounds you, the wall is stronger but only blocks what incomes from that direction.

Your rolls of course determine other effects as well because of your magic power, so you can make a huge barrier or a really strong bubble sort of thing.

You could just come up with spells and I'd say if that makes sense as a spell that could be learned by people.

>99

His spirit bull broke through your barrier just enough, and knocked you over, but just barely so, like if you lost your balance and fell over on your own.

In retaliation you cast a small magic bolt at him, which zips over and obliterates his shield, hitting him hard enough to send him tumbling in a painful heap. Your magic missile flies and hits him. It's not as strong a hit as before though, but it still catches him off guard. Either way though everything about your perception starts to go dim, and you you feel the aether effect fading. First the aura will go, then the clothes.

You just dispell it, and have to beat his roll for it. You're not sure how long it will last, but probably more than long enough for this fight. It doesn't cover the entire area, he created around you.

At any rate though with a 32, his attempt at making the rock a locus doesn't work that well, he throws it in your direction but it doesn't improve the effect that much. He doesn't cast another spell though since that was his "turn" spell, waiting for you.

It's a middling place so some respectable clientele at this early in the eve, though Aea says later on when the moneyed folks wander back home the place can get pretty lively. Together you manage to attract people, once you make it clear that Tora isn't playing since no one would beat her. With a 70 you manage to draw in about 8 normal patrons, 2 wealthier ones, and 1 son of a noble.

As last time it takes some setting up, with clearing a space and drawing tables together and cleaning them up, seating for everyone and drinks. But you get it more or less ready to go, with you between Aea and Vela.

That's much better, you're not feeling better but everyone is feeling a lot worse. There's only one normal patron left and the noble's son, while Aea and Vela are pretty drunk now to the point of singing and holding onto each other, and so you too being between them. You keep getting splashed by spilled drinks but don't mind.

As well, eventually, you notice someone pinching you. You look around in a haze to recognize Fera, who must have wandered in at some point. She gives you words of encouragement and an excited smile, trying to explain that there's a lot of money and reputation in this if you win.

Of course you don't make sense of any of that, and your mind is drawn to the next round! Roll!

You actually manage to make it to the next round, and now it's just you, Aea and the noble's son, all of you barely hanging onto the table. Poor Vela, though hardy like Aea, isn't used to drinking this much in some time, and the other regular customer knocked his chin on the table on the way down.

The money is flying as the bets stack up, and even Aea tells you or tries to tell you that she can't make it past another round. You feel the same, until Fera grabs your attention again and gives you a kiss and wishes you good luck. A sharp pang of clarity if only for a brief moment when you let process what just happened.

Not like you can appreciate it much, but before they can bring another round, the noble's son slips off his chair and Aea passes out on the table. That leaves you the winner!

You're barely cognizant, and certainly not functioning, everything a very distant blurry haze despite all the cheering and shouting and singing and ruckus all around you. The main thing that you notice above all, is Fera holding your hand.

>What do you want to do?

Yeah you're really drunk. You think you slur out something like that, she offers to lead you by the hand if you go with her. Tora moves in to stop her, but a conversation happens that you can't make out, and Tora ends up picking up Aea and Vela and carrying them away from the mess, and sitting aside with them, pulling some benches for them to lay on till they at least regain consciousness, then maybe they can move to a room.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>709331
I assume we're at an Inn?

>Get a room
>Thank Fera
>Kiss cheek
>Pass out on the bed
>>
>>709331
Rest. We need to recover.
>>
>>709336
Well it's a tavern, but there's an inn attached. You try to communicate to her that you don't want to sit around in this state, so you let her lead you to the inn portion where she gets a room. It's all a haze of course and you're barely lucid, and actually stop to go to the toilet on the way up, which she helps with within propriety sake.

Eventually though she helps you to the room and the bed, giving you a pitcher of water to drink some from. You thank her and kiss her face, then sink into the bed and the welcoming black of unconsciousness.

---

You awaken an unknown amount of time later with a splitting headache, not much more lucid, and feeling like you need to puke. She's there with you though, sitting besides in bed, maybe snoozing herself but awake when you do. She has a bucket though for you to hurl, and the pitcher ready again.

>Anything you want to do, or just go back to sleep again?
>>
>>709357
Vomit, get some water with bread and cheese, ask Fera if she wants to cuddle then lazily pat the chunk of bed next to us and go back to sleep
>>
>>709363
That feels a bit better you think, as you get some food (actually decent this time since the inn is more upscale) after hurling, and feeling beholden to Fera for her encouragement and getting you a room you offer to snuggle with her. She gladly accepts the chance, though you may have disappointed her when you just fall back to sleep.

---

Once again you awaken, but much longer after, feeling a fairly bad hangover but not a debilitating one like last time. You figure to get some more water to drink from the pitcher, and notice Fera at some point must have tucked you both in, with her next to you. Both clothed this time, but she's awake you can tell and asks how you're feeling, and congratulates you on winning, saying it was quite amazing to watch.

She says it was, yes. No one thought you'd be able to make it past a couple rounds, let alone to the end and win. She was always rooting for you the moment she showed up, but watching a ton of people eventually realize what was going to happen and wanting to change their bets was crazy to watch. She thinks the tavern keeper was talking about getting a woodcut of it made to hang up on the wall of the bar even. Not to mention of course all the talk that will probably come of you winning, and the money won.

So what do you want to do now? You're still feeling under the weather, but you don't have any classes for today or tomorrow. To your guess it's probably morning, or early morning.

A few hours is nice to her, since all you'd been doing is sleeping. If you're awake you can reciprocate, and you wouldn't mind lazing in bed till the hangover wears off.
>>
>>710915
Okay then let's lazy about for a few hours then find Tora.

Also we still exercising right?
How /fit/ are we right now?
>>
>>710932
With all the recent happenings you'd not been keeping up on your fitness much, but you definitely have some definition, and when you have exercised you've noticed you're able to do so for longer and harder.
>>
>>710915
Laze in bed with her for a few hours until the hangover wears off, ask her what does she want to do while we're on the bed

Well she hesitantly admits that she'd want to make things physical between you, but she's not sure about your feelings on the matter and neither are you. Failing that though you could just talk intermittently.

She actually prefers men, though by actions of the quest, there's been a few times where she's felt some strange feelings for some ladies, mainly Astrea though Fera's been farther with Mags than Astrea has. Astrea is definitely straight though.

>>711018
Anyway, you just stay in bed together and talk occasionally as the time passes. You doze off occasionally, but are eventually woken up with a kiss each time.

With the help of the pitcher of water and some food now and then, a few hours pass and you're sufficiently feeling comfy from lazing together, and feeling better from the greatly diminished hangover. You say you need to get up and have stuff to do, as expected she's disappointed but when you offer her to come with you, she considers it for a bit. Making her way to the door, she looks outside, then says sure she'd be fine tagging along.

So you tidy up after laying in bed, use toilet and otherwise get ready to go, and since you both were dressed you can head out no problem. It's a dreadful day outside, very dark and rainy, for which you heard the thunder while in bed. You look around to see Aea up and about and having breakfast, as well as Tora outside in the courtyard underneath sort of a tarp they set up for her to sit under so she doesn't get as wet.

Yeah you can create just a basic water barrier no problem. Still need to roll, but as long as you don't crit either way it's fine.

>>711225
As a noble lady she's expected to get married and have kids. It's not impossible that you could still attract her in that way, but you can't really expect much more than secret trysts on a rare occasion when she's taken of that kind of mood.

Anyway though, you sit to breakfast with Aea and Fera, doing so outside with Tora. Assuming you don't fail the rain barrier, other people will start to filter out to also sit in the courtyard and marvel at the magic display, and the waitresses will also bring out food because of it.

Once again you get compliments all around, especially from Aea who didn't know you had it in you to beat even her.

Harpies definitely like shiny things.

You wander around for awhile then, seeing what there is to be seen with the others, and having a generally nice time. You like the exotic birds the most, and eventually come out of it somewhat familiar with the differences in the animals there by scent.

It takes about two hours, and is afternoon by the time you've seen everything. Anything else you want to do before leaving?
>>
>>712605
No not really.
But there is an elven district or place where they tend to live.
Let's go there.

You figure to part ways with everyone after that, having Julien escort them back (Vela to the academy in particular), in order to check out the elf quarter on your own.

It takes you some time to locate your way there by asking around but eventually you find it. Quite an odd place from what you can see, a walled neighborhood with distinct gates in and out. The architecture is pretty strange to you as well, very fancy looking but also very strictly organized and planned out.

As you approach the nearest gate, the closest thing you can imagine to a guard stops you fast and notably calling you dragonling, asks you what's your business here, stating that they don't like trouble in this part of town.

>>
>>713227
>More one than anyone in the city.
So that means we are automatically a fire breathing monstrosity?
Just because we're 1% more dragon than a normal person doesn't mean we're more violent.
We aren't responsible for anything we've done and why would we act anything like a dragon. We weren't even raised by one.
>>
>>713271
That's all very interesting but he doesn't much care and asks you politely to leave again.
>>
>>713281
>Rude! And I'm the monster.
>Leave
Let's head to the orc quarters.
Maybe they'll care less.
>>
>>713333
There actually isn't an orc quarter within the city. There's a small township a few miles out though, if you want to go over there.
>>
>>713350
Sure.
That should be a relatively easy trek
Damn racists.
>>
>>713371
You reach the orc township by evening, making your way along with the regular traffic. There's a sleepy guard at this entrance, so you can go right in. For as small as it is, it's pretty bustling. From what you can tell, it seems most of the orcs here are employed probably in the capitol, and they only use the small town here in the evenings for sleeping. That would explain the large number of bunkhouses, bars, and other forms of basic amenities like food and entertainment. Basically they leave in the mornings, work all day, then come back in the evenings to spend a few hours having fun then turn in for the night to repeat the next day.

There's some densely packed housing and a few simple businesses, but mostly it's commuter folk who aren't here often. But it's evening now, so many are here now with many more returning, and as said the place is bustling. You hear lots of noise from all around, ranging from shouting and laughing, to the sounds of a fight and cheering.

>What do you want to do?

While marveling at the place, you get smacked on the behind pretty firmly by a passing orc fellow with a laugh, for standing right in the middle of the street.
>>
>>713451
Motherfucker.
>Enter a tavern.
Wonder what orcs drink.
Better be some good stuff.
>>
>>713482
You enter the first tavern you can find. You definitely feel out of place since it's almost entirely orcs, but you think to check out what they have. The menu looks pretty simple, mostly meat but also appealing in a simple way. A ham leg swimming in gravy, and some raw vegetables, it actually reminds you of home more than any of the cuisine in the city you've found.

Drinks-wise, they've got pretty strong stuff, and it doesn't look that sanitary. There's a huge vat of the drink, and people are free to just take a mug to it. You get the feeling though this isn't necessarily indicative of their culture, and more of the tavern itself as a place people are just looking to get drunk over dinner fast, then stagger back to some bunkhouse and fall over on whatever cot is empty.

A young lad asks you if you're lost or need something, and you'd guess he works there.
>>
>>713582
>No just passing by.
Order some food
That ham leg sounds nice.
But do not grab a drink.
Not sure our stomach could handle the lack of sanitation.
>>
>>713643
Well it's not so much an issue of health sanitation, rather than palette sanitation. The drinks are strong so you don't expect anything dangerous to be able to survive in the vat, it's alcohol after all. It's just a gross prospect to you, to drink from it. Also, safe to drink or not, there's still the chance you could end up with something nasty in your cup.

You ask the lad for some food though, he says he can do that for you but unless you can pay extra you're going to have to find someone to share with since he can tell you won't be able to eat it all and they don't like selling at a loss. Nothing to say of seating either.
>>
>>713727
Find a young orc lad to share the meal with
>>
>>713760
You can certainly look around to find one, and tell him you want to have him share a meal with. You can't tell if he's more confused to see a human in here or that one wants to share dinner with him, but after a few moments thought he nods and tries to make room for you. You're still going to be squashed besides him, with a bigger, older guy on the other side. Once it's seen you managed to find someone to share with, the one working brings over the special.

The one you're sharing with doesn't much wait or ask how much you want, and starts digging in. He doesn't act to stop you in any way though, but it'll be a weird experience for sure, more or less leaning over the table and eating together. Careful you don't bump heads!

It is hearty for sure though, and delicious in simplicity, again reminding you of home and making you glad you made the trip out here. While eating you occasionally notice a stray hand from someone either side of you and him, trying to reach over and steal some food, but he shows you a fork jab usually gets rid of the problem. At some point the bigger guy next to you does a double take when he actually notices you sitting next to him, and puts an arm around you and offers some of his drink for the little lady.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>713866
>Nah I'm fine I'm still recovering from a hangover from last night.
>>
>>713896
You shrug off the drink and get a laugh out of him when you mention the hangover, but he doesn't take his arm off. He's not particularly grabby though, just a friendly drunk. The younger guy you sat down with though does manage to take the drink off the bigger fellow though in your stead.

It takes awhile but together you manage to put away the contents of the plate, feeling very full yourself. It seems as long as you've got a drink or food as well, they don't kick you out. However a little while in and an orc lady storms up and starts yelling at the bigger guy, shoving you all the while. He tries to make excuses but she doesn't seem pleased that he's friendly with you.
>>
>>713936
>Wait hold on what's going on here? What's the problem?
They in a relationship?
We didn't do anything.
>>
>>713959
You ask what the problem is, if they're in a relationship? She tells you to keep out of it and smacks the drink in the younger fellow's hand so that it splashes on you. He gets angry at this and shoves her when he stands up, which causes the big guy to get up as he has to restrain her from trying to attack the young guy. Curses are thrown and shouting happens, all the while the big guy laughing. Pretty soon another woman in a worker outfit shows up to join in the shouting, telling them to leave.

You try to cast sleep on her, and she gets hit by it, but apart from a sudden spell of drowsiness she manages to shrug it off. That was at least enough for the bigger guy to get a better hold of her and move her to his side. He must not have expected it though because the young guy you sat down with lunges at him and a small fight occurs before they can be pulled off each other, kicking and screaming as others cheer and holler. Cursing and shaking off the people holding him back, the one you were sitting with insults the bigger guy for not putting up a better fight before grabbing your hand and storming out.

After leading you a little ways outside, he rounds a corner and pulls you close for a kiss. A weird sensation with the protruding teeth, and it caught you off guard, but for a young guy he's pretty strong. A few moments of tying his tongue with yours, he calms down some and thanks you for dinner. Still holding you close, he asks if you want to find a place to sleep together after that since he's got work tomorrow. You're a little taken aback by how forward he is and wonder where this is coming from, but can sense his heart pounding, still riding the adrenaline from the fight. Maybe it's just the culture or maybe it's just because he's a young guy in his prime, but you get the feeling he thought you buying and sharing dinner was you showing interest in him, and you sense at least that he's feeling that way and looking to unwind after the scuffle.

That probably would have had an effect, but he's pulled you close so you can't properly cast the spell. In a panic though you do tell him no, you're not interested and push against him. Steadying his breathing, he ends up letting you from his arms and apologizes again, thinking you were into the idea. You can tell he feels bad for reading things wrong in his inexperience, and says he'll be on his way then and hopes he didn't cause you too much trouble.

Wiping his mouth, he straightens himself up, and heads back into the street looking around for where he is before deciding where to go next.

You figure to head back now, getting an impression of the township. Weird experience of nostalgia mixed with some unexpected unpleasantness. Well maybe not entirely unpleasant, you can't remember the last time a guy held you like that and acted that way towards you.

But enough of that, you summon some water and wash your mouth out, before making your way out of the small town. There's much less traffic going to the capitol this time of night, but you don't get into any trouble on the way. Eventually you find yourself back in the city proper, a few hours past sundown.

You make your way back to your house, keeping to populated areas, mingling with a crowd or two as you go. Eventually you reach your house, to be greeted as happy as ever by Avor and Rafe. Julien is there too washing up after an assumed dinner, saying he saved you some if you're hungry.

Before you can answer though, Alicia storms upstairs practically choking and yells for you to get out, get out and don't come back till you took a bath or something. She looks to be in distress from something, and downs a small vial trying to calm herself down and cope with your presence.

Actually they don't. At least not for public use. The only one of such a sort you know of is back at the school, though that's a ways away. You could find some local inn though and see about a personal tub. Also of course, Aea's shop has a bath.

>>714614
Sewage and everything else drains into the river. You could imagine jumping into it to save a drowning person, or to flee from pursuers, but you wouldn't want to willing go in it. Certainly not to bathe.
>>

To Aea's shop then!
We shall bathe there and sleep in our house.

So you're saying you'll do a round trip, wash at the shop then return to the house?

Either way you head over to the shop to be let in by the urchin boy. Aea isn't around, but he's about to head out. While you're waiting for the tub to fill though, he lets you know that the whole business with him working in the Duke's household and possibly stealing from him isn't going to work out and he's probably not going to show up again.

You make him tell you on the grounds of how he could be causing trouble for you as well. He panics and affirms that it wouldn't, and finally admits that it's a personal problem he'd have to face. The head caretaker he was blackmailing for the job told him she was pregnant by him, so he's just going to stop showing up and lie low to avoid the situation. It's a problem for him being their, but nothing for you to worry about. He figured you should know at least so that you don't try to make plans relying on him having the job anymore.

Same situation as he told you last time, he found out the head caretaker was stealing food so he blackmailed her into keeping quiet. She tried to turn it back and get some dirt on him, trying various ways until trying to seduce him, which he took her up on. The affair had been going for a few months now, but unexpectedly she told him just yesterday she was pregnant. He wonders if it was her plan all along, to try and trap him so he couldn't hold anything over her anymore.

So instead he's just going to quit while he's ahead, and stop working there altogether.

Whatever the case though, her plan isn't going to work because he's not going to end up doing what she wants anyway, he's just going to disappear and she's the one stuck with a baby at the end of the day.

>>715015
When you bring up talking to her yourself, he strongly refuses and says you'll just make everything worse. He only told you so you would know, not so that you would get involved. His solution will make the problem go away, so it's the best choice obviously.

He believes he was careful enough to avoid that anyway though, none of the other servants knew much about him at all, let alone where he lived.

>>715067
He's glad you finally accept the situation and don't make things difficult for him. With that he goes back to preparing to head out for the evening while you take the bath. You're not sure what it is you're supposed to be washing for, or washing off, but you figure a decent scrub should take care of it. You get all spick and span, get dressed again, and return to your house. Julien is wearing an apron and doing the tidying up when you get in, greets you with a kiss on the cheek and tells you he put the kids to bed already. He has a newspaper and a cold beer ready for you by your favorite recliner by the fire and a casserole wrapped up on the table if you want any, and will take your dress to clean and iron it for work again on Monday. He also says if you're not too tired from a long day at work he can maybe slip into something more... comfortable later when you come to the bedroom. Also Alicia your pet dog greets you happily.

---

At any rate when you get back, Alicia isn't there immediately but must have smelled you and comes upstairs again. Not as drastic this time, she says you still smell unpleasant, but not so much that she can't handle it, like before. Whatever you did since last you met yesterday, you've got that same unpleasant smell as she picked up on when she first came into the capitol with you. She requests for her sake, that you refrain from doing whatever you did again, or at least wash before you come near her.

Avor and Rafe already went to sleep you figure, though Julien is looking over some papers, doing the usual job you hired him to and watching the markets. It seems without the silk business that effort is pointless, but he still likes doing it and always intends to keep an eye out for lucrative options when they show up. He greets you when you come in but otherwise unless you need anything from him, he'll be busy for probably awhile still after you go to bed. Alicia meanwhile stopped working this late, and is just sitting in the entrance room perhaps unintentionally acting as a guard dog, while she sews something.

You walk around the house and notice it's pretty spare, some rooms actually empty. Maybe Alicia wasn't making it up when she recommended you furnish the place better. Eventually though you head up to your bedroom and turn in for the night.

And no, you don't have classes tomorrow, this was first day off.

---

You awaken the next day bright and early to the sounds of banging and jumping, and you're pretty sure that means Avor and Rafe are awake. You look outside your window to see it's still overcast and rainy.

>What do you want to do?

>>715678
You go to investigate the sounds, it's literally Rafe and Avor messing around. Apparently Rafe obtained a number of wooden medieval figures, and the two of them are having mock kingdom battles. Avor is pretending to be a mighty dragon living in the mountain (under the bed), while Rafe is the high goblin king in his stronghold (pillow fort), and having split the toy forces in half they are battling one another, the room being a real mess.

When they see you they ask who do you think would win in a war?

She's been busy working on that invisibility potion, and with Julien's help getting an idea of the landscape of the city since she's been away. She wants a sense of it before she tries going out there and risking herself, and you as well. She does bring up some places she was familiar with including an old hideout she wishes to check out at some point, as well as some contacts. One has no response but the other you hear Fera inside saying it's open and to come in.

You open to see her place, pretty nice and comfy, much better than yours at least. She's there and looked to be washing some clothes, but when she sees you she stifles an exclaimation of happiness as she runs over and tries to hug you without getting you wet by her hands. She admits she was feeling bad about that, but feels a bit better in knowing you have some concern for her rather than it being one sided.

She says she's fine though, and asks how you were after the two of you parted ways. She wasn't expecting to see you anytime soon again, least of all here, but she gives a soft smile as she crosses her fingers of a hand with yours, and says at least you know where she lives now.

>Just because we don't want to bed her doesn't mean we don't want to talk to her.

She knows that, and she didn't mean it that way. She just meant, she thought maybe her advances soured your normal feelings about her, like similarly how you might find it hard to be platonic friends with a guy if you know he had those kinds of feelings for you. Also as well of course, it's severely punishable even by death, same-sex relationships so she knows most people would react harshly just on that basis alone. It's of course, something she always has to worry about, that kind of persecution and fear of it.

She's glad to hear though, that's not the case.

>>716082
You can help her with the laundry but she stowed it all in order to make the place more presentable to you. There's quite a lot she informs you, if you actually are keen on helping her so it could take awhile, maybe something to talk about in the meantime?

And she says sure, she'd like that, to see what your house is like now that you've seen what her house is like.
>>
>>716028
>(OP we're voices in Maggie's head right?)

Yeah you're like her inner voice. You're not literally voices in her head talking to her, because she's not insane, and she's still her own person in that her actions are her own and you can't force her to do anything (particularly if she doesn't actually want it, or wouldn't ever do it) but you're the inner voice that guides her actions, ranging from her conscience to her impulses.
>>
>>716473
>Same sex relationships are punishable by death.
So if I were to propose the idea of jumping dimensions and exploring reality would you be down for that?

(I really want to leave this dimension now. The 1600s scare me)
>>
>>716498
She doesn't understand what you mean, and actually neither do you, since although you the player know of that ability and the existence of other planes of reality, Mags doesn't.

Not that it would be impossible, I could imagine a situation where losing faith in the world or feeling dejected, she tries to imagine someplace else and imagine herself magically traveling there. And then if she rolls specifically, rather than teleporting somewhere else in the world she actually shifts to another dimension or plane.

But that's a long stretch from where you are and what you're capable of.
>>
>>716473
>Same sex relations are punishable by death.

She must really like us if she's risking herself for us

Talk about what she does for a living while we help
>>
>>716510
Well right now it's just a hypothetical.
We should look into it though.
(And can we alter where we go by desiring certain criteria?
>>
>>716517
Well she clarifies, the punishment can be as bad as death, though it usually wouldn't. More often it would be public shaming and humiliation, like being beaten publicly and put in the stocks, and for women obviously the punishment would be lighter. But as a definite possibility, and you know that it isn't that rare for it to happen either. But it makes her point nonetheless, that she has to be careful about her lifestyle choices, and she's often worried about being found out and who she can and can't love. The very real threat that after you rejected her advances, some men show up to drag her through the streets, because you went and told about her proclivity.

Anyway though, you don't mind helping with the laundry, and it's something you're *really* good at because of your background. Enough that you surprise her as you hammer out the laundry at a solid pace. You get to talking with her, and are curious about her method of income, since it's out of the ordinary for a woman like her to be able to support herself as she lives, without a husband to take care of her. You can only imagine it must be back breaking work if she can afford to live alone like this (she's quite poor from the look of things so it wouldn't seem that far fetched, but to Mags because of cultural reasons it's strange to her the thought of a woman living without a man and supporting herself), but while the work is hard she tells you, it's not manual labor. As she tells you, she works creating the binding for books, specifically the sewing work. Normally that kind of work would be handled by the press houses themselves, but for more specific or unique works, that's where someone like her would be contracted. She admits it's rather tedious work and expects to be blind in her old age and have stiff hands because of it, but it does allow her to read and practice her Almese, and the pay although unreliable is enough to afford living on her own.

>>716544
Yeah definitely. If you manage to learn about, understand, and get good at it, then it would be a standard fare of specifying what you want, like how you specify what you want spells to do when you weave them. It will never not be super dangerous of course, but you could at least get it to where, as long as you didn't crit fail, you wouldn't end up inside a sun for example.
>>
>>716580
Is that the only skill you have.
Everyone has some special skill or passion.
>>
>>716597
You just asked about her about what she does for a living, and she answered. If you want to know about what her other skills are and things she likes, that's different.

She likes *insert standard set of skills and passions typical to a low class woman of the 16th century*, many of which overlap with your own.
>>
>>716622
So now we should idle chit chat.
Let's tell her about slaying our first (and only) vampire

That reminds me that a vampire is still loose in the capital.
We should warn her about that.
>>
>>716652
While finishing up with the laundry you change topics to your tried and tested and favorite story about vampire slaying. She finds it to be a frightening tale as probably most would, and has trouble coping with the terror and suspense of it and covers her face in exasperation. You realize for her, and most people, the idea of such danger is a strange and scary thought and would drive them to panic. She thinks it amazing what you did though, and didn't think vampires were even real.

When you tell her about one at large in the capitol she stifles a cry of fear, and says you'll cause her to faint if you keep talking like this. You can sense that she's very obviously, and genuinely fearful now, and asks you what to do on the matter and says she's afraid of going out now. Eventually when she puts two and two together, she drops to her knees as you are seated, and with her arms around you buries her head in your lap and practically begs, asks if you wouldn't keep her safe if such a danger were real. She knows it's a sorry thing to plead for and thinks less of herself would that she saw herself in such a state, but you've got her fearing for her life now and she thinks you to be capable of dealing with the threat such as. You feel a little bad now for wanting to tell a story you like for amusement, realizing after that most common, good folk would find it horrifying rather than entertaining.
>>
>>716676
Guess we have to hunt vampires again.
(OP do our senses get blighted still? Or did nuking our tongue with magic clean us of the blight?)
>Don't worry I'll find and slay it.
We should get ready to leave and try to track the beast again.
>>
>>716676
Prepare some fake light grenades and tell her that's what we used to kill him, then head out
>>
>>716699
You don't know but it seems possible they'd get blighted again since the friar only cleansed them rather than putting some lasting protection on them.

You tell her you'll take care of the problem, but she says not to risk yourself just for her sake.

>>716699
>>716701
When you are set to up and leave, she's obviously alarmed and says you're not going to just abandon her after telling her something as shocking as that are you? You can tell she's a little hysterical over the whole thing, and thinks you're leaving her to her fate. Like you only stopped by today to proclaim her doom, then leave as soon as you came.
>>
>>716726
>Fine follow me. You can stay at a friend of mine for a while.

She can hang around Aea while we deal with this
>>
>>716726
Wait wut, weren't we going to take her with us to our house?
>>
>>716778
So she can risk getting infected by Alicia?
Nah.
>>
>>716788
But Anon, we we're pretty close to her that time Alicia told us to leave because we stank or something, i want Alicia to test her smell on her
>>
>>716801
I'd be more willing to attribute it to the orc settlement.
Also if she's the problem then we should keep her far away.
We'll know if it's really her when we go home.
>>
So what's the consensus? You're bringing her with you sure, but where are you taking/leaving her?
>>
>>716853
Go home, i need to see if she's clean
>>
>>716853
Fine take her to our house
and see nothing happen
>>
>>716873
>>716966
You decide to take her to your house, which was a plan originally. She's thankful for it and your taking care like this, and along the way she eases up more and is in less of a panic. As you walk together, she tries to have some conversation, and remembers when last you were together you talked about going to school and magic and stuff. Seeing you put up the rain barrier was also pretty obvious, but she asks if that has something to do with your eyes. You never told her about *that* so it's understandable that she'd be curious.

Either way eventually you come to your house, her surprise becoming more apparent as you enter into the neighborhood, compared to where she lives. When you reach your house she asks which floor is yours and you tell her the whole house, to which she gasps and says you must be rich indeed, from your family perhaps? She never thought you so well off, but as you approach, she nearly falls over as you notice Rafe push past her legs nearly knocking her over, and start kicking the door. Avor throws it open with a lizardly half-hiss half-shriek, though sees it's Rafe and you as well outside and celebrates your return.

This is obviously a bad first impression, or at least a very strange and confusing one, and Fera asks if it's really alright if she stays here?
>>
>>717024
Ask her to stay outside while we *insert excuse here* and go fetch Alicia
>>
>>717024
>Oh no they're perfectly fine. Rafe is an old friend of mine and avor...semi worships me? Best way I can describe it. It's weird.

>Rich family
What I'm born to a peasant family. This was paid with treasure.

>Our eyes
We can talk about that when we get inside.
>>
>>717051
You tell her to wait outside while you go get Alicia. You look around and find her in the dock downstairs as expected, she asks if you took care of what you set out to do, but you tell her you need her help with something. On the way upstairs she remarks you still have that smell on you from yesterday, as you exit the house together. The reactions are unexpected to say the least. Fera from seeing someone emerge in a plague suit and recoiling in surprise and stifling a surprised scream, while Alicia immediately backs up hard enough to slam into the door and force it open as she retreats staggering into the house again, choking and saying the smell is on her too, and strong like when you came in last night. Struggling to take her mask off, she's trying to down the contents of some vial, and is clearly angry at you after she said not to come near her when you or your friends are smelling like that.

Fera is mortified and utterly confused, asking if the woman is alright and if a doctor should be fetched.
>>
>>717093
>No her senses are just sensitive.

>Alicia what smell are you talking about?
>>
>>717093
Ask her if she hangs out with anyone suspicious
>>
>>717102
You tell her Alicia has sensitive senses, but that doesn't do much to quiet her concern. You ask Alicia what she means by the smell, she struggles to respond and says she doesn't know what the smell is, just that it's strongly unpleasant to her and prompts her to want to transform in defense. She just knows it's the same smell you had about you last night.

>>717112
You ask Fera if she keeps any suspicious company. She says she tries to avoid associating with anyone suspicious, though when she does spend time around taverns and local events (as you know her to), she could run into or hang out with any number of people.
>>
>>717164
We need to get a bath if we're going to rest at our house tonight, go look for an inn or go to Aea's house

>>717240

>>
>>717365
Das ok, we also need to have Alicia track the smell to its source, im guessing it's either the vamp or Tarasque dude

Im leaning towards Vamp since werewolves and vamps hate each other and Alicia seemed to dislike the smell
>>
>>717490
Also we need a way to get modifiers for our magic rolls.
I dislike the thought that we can end up casting magic and having it be completely useless because of shit luck.
>>
>>717600
But how do we do that?

Keep going to school i take it?
>>
>>717637
I doubt it.
We haven't even learned any sort of stability.
Our magic is still random.
We will have to practice in our free time it seems.
>>
I'm back. So what's the plan?
>>
>>717693
I would rather if we could have an adjustable modifier. like willingly choosing between + and -. that way we can play it safe to avoid crits or go full power when needed.

>>718594
looks like going to the menagerie with Fera or training our own magic.
>>
>>718647
No OR buddy, choices choices!
>>
>>718713
Lets go to the menagerie
>>
>>718713
Let's go to the menagerie.

>>718647
adding on to the modifier suggestions, if it's possible through training, then I would rather choose the negative modifier that can be activated in case of crits.
controlled average is better than uncontrollable power. I don't want us to get knocked out after all these fainting.
>>
>>718729
You go to the menagerie with Fera who is still confused at what is going on, and of course Julien to get you in. I assume the plan is involve the dragoness? When you go around that side, Fera finds out what is inside the gutted armory and fearfully says she's not going in there, the dragon scares her.
>>
>>718745
>We need to do this Fera, i need her to check something on you
>>
>>718745
tell her not to worry, as we are friendly with the dragon inside. she's okay to hang out with.
>>
>>718782
>>718785
You're not really going to be able to convince her by your word alone that she'll be safe inside. Finally she says if the dragon, if it is even capable of doing so, will personally ask her in with a promise of safety, she'll do it. Under those grounds, if she can see that the dragon is intelligent and can make a promise like that, then she'll take your word for it.

So it's up to you to frame this request to the dragoness.
>>
>>718823
well, we can show us going inside and out unharmed.
>>
>>718844

>>718844

>>718861

Rolling to convince her
>>
>>718941
>55

She's too afraid and your attempt to convince her just increases her panic and makes her refuse harder. The dragoness might be able to persuade her though.
>>
>>718960
Well then

Poke our head in her chamber and ask her if she can convince our friend that she's cool so our friend can enter
>>
Rolled 73 (1d100)

>>718960
what >>718990 said.

>>
>>718990
You enter into the chamber to find her lounging about on all her new cushions and expecting you to join her, but you explain the problem at hand. She thinks the situation overall is strange, but finds it perfectly reasonable that Fera would be too fearful to enter without such a promise. Most people aren't even brave enough for that.

Groaning (or what you think to be a groan) she struggles to roll over like a fat dog, but eventually finds her legs and moves to the edge of the main open area. Sticking her head down she nears it to the entrance as best she can, as you ask to have the door open. Fera obviously screams in surprise and fear at the sight, but fights the impulse to run. Once the dragoness promises her safety and invites her in, convincing her she won't come to any harm, Fera hesitantly inches closer and asks for your help. The fear is still enough that she's having trouble crossing that final threshold despite her saying she would do. Taking her by the hand though you lead her inside, and all the while she clings to you for dear life and buries her face to your shoulder trying not to cry.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>719054
sit down with her? obviously we should stick with her since we would be the only thing here stopping her from freaking out.
keep holding hands or hold onto her arm. should give her a feeling that we're here.
>>
>>719054
This
>>719070
And
>Damn, you're cute when you're scared

Ask miss dragon lady if she can lick/sniff her and us, tell her there's something in the city that's been leaving it's scent on us and that we need to know what it is

Tell Fera nothing bad's gonna happen and hold her as she gets licked/sniffed
>>
>>719070
You go to sit down, figuring it to be easier on her. She clings to you shaking though, and is obviously very distraught no matter what. You can feel and hear her rapid breathing as well.

>>719085
You ask the dragoness for both, as she draws close to smell the two of you together. She says it's odd, there's a distinct smell on you but not on Fera. She thought she detected one before she entered the chamber, but figures she was sensing it on you and got mixed up. When you bring up licking, Fera hugs you harder and begs for you not to let that happen. You're resolved though, as you undo part of her dress at the back, giving the dragoness the exposure to lick her. She audibly squeaks from the sudden wet sensation of the tongue and recoils sharply from it to you, nearly knocking you over in the process. Getting her impression of the taste though, she says she can't sense anything out of the ordinary, she's just a human woman. Colder than she expected, but it's that season and she's not dressed warmly.

You tell her about the situation with something leaving a scent around the city and on you, she wonders if by your suspicions, maybe you're not the specific target, and this girl crossed paths with whatever is leaving the scent. You tell her that Fera does spend a lot of time around people and in public, the dragoness says that would make sense if she was at risk. Hopefully whatever you think is the danger of the situation, isn't or hasn't become aware of the girl, if you think it was focusing on your originally.

You think to ask Fera, but notice now that she's crying, as she has her face buried in your shoulder.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>719207
Hold Fera's head against our chest and stroke her hair, try to calm her down with this
Dragon sense what is she feeling while we're at it

Ask the dragon lady if she can associate the smell with anything she knows and tell her we're trying to find out if whatever is leaving the scent is bad or not
>>
>>719284
You try to calm Fera down and be close with her, but you sense only fear from her. That's the strongest feeling of her at least.

You speak with the dragoness about the matter, and her stance on the smell. She takes another smell of you and says it's definitely strange and present, but she has trouble identifying it to anything she's familiar with. She says it seems vaguely similar to, or at least carries undertones of the unliving, but she's never sense anything quite like it before. If she had to guess, she would imagine bad based on the information you've given her, but then that's just her guess. She asks you to think again on what things that have happened relating to it you would consider bad.

If nothing else though she finds it very interesting, since it's rare she encounters things she isn't familiar with.
>>
>>719363
Keep calming Fera down, cradle her head against our chest if she allows it

>Undead
Kek
i was thinking about it but i thought it was highly unlikely an undead/necromancer got into the Capitol

Mention those two and pay attention to what she says
>>
>>719363
say >>719405, ask if she thinks if it could be a vampire?
oh, and does she have any knowledge of things that go bump in the night that can blend in with the populace? that might be helpful if we come later. although not now due to poor fera being scared.
>>
>>719405
She'll allow it but it won't do much to reduce her distress.

You mention an undead being or a necromancer, she says it's unlikely since she's familiar with several of those types, and the scent and taste is not similar enough for her to agree. It's got more of a sickly sweet character to it, which confuses her. Maybe some sort of ghost? But then she wouldn't be much help with that to begin with.

>>719435
The dragoness doesn't know what a vampire is, and asks you to explain such a thing to her.

As for her knowledge, she does have some amount sure, from her own experiences. She talks about lycanthropes, changelings, witches, and other sorts of nasties which inhabit a populace.
>>
>>719487
>Sickly Sweet
>Alicia can't stand the smell
This is pretty odd indeed

Thank her for her help and leave, if she asks why just point at Fera
>>
>>719509
Well you thank her for her assistance and go to take your leave. Your excuse is a good one, but you can tell she's still annoyed.

Once you get outside and the door is shut behind, while Fera was crying before, now she breaks down and starts properly sobbing, and says she wants to go home. Eventually you find Julien who during that time was recognized as a regular customer and given a special showing of the mermaid. He asks what's wrong and what happened with Fera, but you signal him not to press it.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>719548
Go to Fera's home, we'll take our bath there

And comfort her while we're on our way, try to calm her down

>I need to take a bath so i can return home, can you help me with that?
>>
>>719568
You probably don't need Julien to take you there.

On the way you try to calm her down, but in her distressed state she says she's had second thoughts about her friendship with you, if upon the day of confirming it by showing up to her house, you scare her with stories of vampires in the city, involve her in some sort of distressing business possibly related to it, and take her before as well as unclothe her to be tasted by a dragon. Eventually she comes to apologize and says she didn't mean it, she was just hysterical, but you sense some truth to what she said. Her ordeal today has been very trying and difficult on her, and to some extent has damaged her feelings towards you, due to your very un-friendly treatment of her. You sense, and she speaks of, a fear that being close to you means being close to fear and danger. She tried to look past your eyes, but if on your first day you put her before a dragon, she worries what tomorrow will bring.

You bring up taking a bath, but Fera says she can't afford something like that, so to bathe you'd have to let a room. You ask her to help on the matter, she assumes your lack of feelings towards her stand, so believes you to mean washing your hair for example. The sort of assistive duties a servant might perform. She says she'll help you if you need it, taking it at face value.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>719638
uh...
fera needs to know that we aren't different from what she knew of us yesterday. she might know all this spooky stuff, but she was completely fine living without knowing them.
if she can calm down and think over this new info it would help.

dunno what else to say about the bath though, someone should take over.

Scratch that unfriendly bit, i thought she said it
>>
>>719647
Her concern here isn't knowing about the danger, she's worried that being close to you means being in danger. She admits her understanding of it all is very little, but basically everything she knows in total about such spooky things, is everything you showed and told her just today. She wants to feel like it's not a big deal but your actions scared her, even if they were for her safety, and her limited understanding hinders her ability to accept and process all of this as no big deal.

>>719651

She was doubting our friendship because of what we did so i wanted to say we did all that because she's our friend and we we're looking out for her
>>

She doesn't doubt your friendship, she just doesn't think she can handle it. Like you might as well just have told her the sky was green, snapped your fingers to make it so, and then expect her to take it in stride like nothing is wrong.

From what you know of people, her feelings aren't unique either. Even your own friends like Julien and Aea, learned over many months, the things Fera just learned in a couple hours.

---

At any rate you find and let an inn room with a tub, and they'll serve you food or drinks while it's filled and prepared. You notice Fera is still a little shaken, but is showing signs of improvement. Sitting with you in a more familiar and comfier environment, is a definite help.

>What do you want to do?

>>719691
Get that bath, ask Fera if she wants to join you

>>

Once they let you know the bath is ready, you head to the room. It's a pretty nice setup, and they including some things like washrags and even soaps.

While testing the water, you figure to ask Fera if she wants to join you, as a means of helping her relax and settle her mind. She's confused for a second and pauses, eventually asking if you want her help having a bath, or if you want to have a bath with her.

>>
>>719735
You say both more or less, and she affords you some privacy as you undress and get in the tub. For her though she doesn't care about being seen or not. You're already seen her mostly naked but now there's nothing left to the imagination as she steps into the tub opposite to you and lowers herself into the water. Whether or not you actually have feelings for her, one thing you do know is you admire her that she's comfortable enough with her body that she doesn't care about how you see her. You know if the roles were switched, you'd be red as a tomato and covering yourself up. And in fact you are, after she's properly seated in the tub with you and spreads herself out to relax, while you tuck your knees to your chest and try to keep to yourself.

Nudging you with a foot underwater, she tells you to relax. No point in a paid bath like this if you're going act like an ashamed little girl. If nothing else, the bath is obviously doing her good, as she leans her head back on the edge of the wooden tub with her eyes closed, just slowing her breathing.

>>719750

You figure to just take it easy for now, and spend awhile soaking in the tub together. Eventually some light conversation springs up, though it ends up being about topics other than the one you'd expect. Finally she does bring up the events of today, and confesses it's a lot to take in and she's not sure if she'll be able to, but she'll try since you care about her enough to try and keep her safe from it all.

Eventually you take to actually washing and getting clean, her helping you first, then you her. Again you find it a awkward washing her but again she tells you to relax and that it's fine, afterward offering to rub your back to ease your stress. You're surprised how good she is at at though, and it actually feels great. After working some tension out of your neck and shoulders, she brings you to lean back against her, a small use of force to get past your initial hesitation. You end up reclining in the tub together again, your back against her front. Again the initial awkwardness fades when you realize how nice it is, and something you haven't had in a long time. Even though you're not attracted to her probably, sharing that kind of physical contact with another person is rewarding, and not even in an intimate way. Just that close personal connection, being able to be with someone like this and not feel vulnerable or ashamed, able to feel comfortable with yourself. You sort of had it with Astrea but that was some time ago, and not to this extent obviously. You sense that as expected, Fera would want to take things further with you, but out of respect for your feelings doesn't. For not she just settles with resting her chin on your shoulder, as you lay your head back on hers.

Either way about an hour or so pass since getting into the tub. You'd sought to get clean and help her feel better about today, but she actually ends up helping you feel much better about the overall situation and everything that's happened since you were cast out, as well as yourself.

Modifiers aren't a thing you can get without severe stabilizing equipment, since by nature of your magic you can't really control it as long as you're part human. That's on the fly at least, which is generally how you've rolled so far.

If you want to take the time to get preparations right and make a ritual out of it, you could reduce the possibility of things going wrong or badly. Maybe not a modifier, but something like, "reroll if you don't like your first roll" or "discard undesired extreme failure or extreme success".

>>721103
Everyone was content to not do that, so none of that for you.
>>
>>721223
How dragon do we have to be to get modifiers?
Or some control basically.

Also what do you mean by rituals?
Like prepare spells in the morning for us to use throughout the day like D&D?
>>
>>721477
The amount of dragon you are doesn't effect modifiers, because of your latent magic power. Even if you were 100% dragon you wouldn't get modifiers, it would just be a case where, even if you roll low, your power is so great that it would still be an amazing result compared to a normal magic user.

The only way for you to get modifiers is with stabilizing or focusing equipment, a wand being an example of such a thing, or a focusing crystal of some sort. The downside of course is that these things can be lost, taken, or destroyed. Also you might come to rely on them.

As for rituals, I mean like an actual magic ritual, having the spell you want and then preparing the area like creating an inscribed circle and doing a chant, maybe getting some smoke going, all that. So imagine if the spell was like, "Create a stone block", then if you did the written/drawn form of the spell and prepared an area to cast it and did the whole ritual, after the time it takes (like 15 minutes) you could just straight up do the spell as it's supposed to happen with no risk. Probably change it to that, that it goes as planned, rather than something weird like "reroll", but the idea remains the same, that the spell goes the way you want it to with not bad or extremely good consequences. Just as-is written.
>>
>>721509

I explicitly mentioned before that we grab a wand before one of our journeys.

Until you do something else, you're still together there yes. You bring up your eyes, but she says that no actually, she wasn't asking about them. She assumed there was a reason, but she didn't think to pry since she didn't mind them.

So you spend awhile longer relaxing together before before figuring you have to get back to things. As much as you'd like to stay there forever, she senses it too and helps you get up out of the tub, soon to follow herself. While getting dressed together you ask her if she spends time around anyone consistently, and she though she does have a few other close friends she trusts them not secretly be malicious or evil, so you thank her for the day spent together anyway. She figures to stay in the room for some time and think more on everything that went on, but says goodbyes and when you share a hug she sneaks a kiss before shoving you on your way out the room.

With that, you head on over to Aea's shop. She remarks you look high spirited, but otherwise is occupied. If you need anything of her though, she's there.

But you can go to Alicia sure. For the coming action, do you want to change perspective to her?
>>
>>723855
Yes.
Switching to punished alchemist perspective.
>>
>>723857

You are Alicia! You've been working on the invisibility potion and think it to be coming along nicely, to be finished in a few days.

Interrupting your work though is the one holding the leash, Mags. Eugh, she smells though, you can't stand it. Not as bad as before, not enough to make you want to change, but still unpleasant. She comes in saying she's hunting some sort of beastie and wants your help because of your sense of smell. Maybe she literally should get a leash for you, if that's your purpose to her right now.

You can't really refuse her though, so get ready to leave and head outside with her. It'll be nice at least to get outside for awhile though.

>What do you want to do now?

You ask her, where she wants to start looking.
>>
>>723862
(Have Maggie take Alicia to where the Rea lady that started all this used to live where we might pick up a scent trail.)
Ask Maggie what this beastie is.
Information is important.
>>
>>723862
If the smell gets too strong while searching tell her we'll need to get back home

And grab some of those vials that help us calm down
>>
>>723870
You get some sedative to bring with you before you leave, and let her know the hunt could cause you to shift. She says she doesn't care and plans to have your pelt for a nice rug anyway.

>>723869
Mags has a place in mind to look though, and leads your through town. Along the way she explains what you're after and what she thinks it is, probably a vampire. You didn't think those actually existed and only know some vague stories, but she seems to have a decent understanding.

Eventually you reach some house and get the strong scent. This one is different though, it's very much faded and must have been here a long time now, so it's not any more offensive than say, Mags smells right now. However, the scent here on this house is different because although it's offensive to you, it's not so in a dangerous way. Rather, it's offensively pleasant, like having your face force into a bouquet and made to suddenly inhale deeply. You feel like if it were stronger and caused you to shift, in your werewolf state you'd want do linger all around the place smelling everything and taking it in, and you get the impression that when the scent was fresh, even normal people would react the same way.
>>
>>723882
>Tell Maggie about this scent. Describe it. Ask why if this is what she's looking for
>Sniff around the area. See if you can get a trail for the scent.

>Have your pelt for a nice rug.
Lies Alicia.
Maggie's a fucking wimp.
And never uses violence when she really should
fucking gypsies
>>
>>723886
Those gypsies would have treated her very nicely and she'd probably be queen by now.

At any rate you tell her about the scent and tell her how you feel about it, ask if it's right? She doesn't like the sound that the two scents are very different, but she supposes it's better than nothing, in between debilitating lesbian thoughts probably.

You're not sure if you can get a fresh trail, but you can definitely follow this scent around the area. Not so much in the streets, but along the buildings and such it still persists somewhat.

Roll to handle your tracking.

Once again you turn up nothing, and wonder of the validity of this threat. You ask Mags why she would be coming around the slums in the first place though, if that's where she picked up the scent to begin with? No luck, same as with retracing the steps from the house. You remind Mags that the scent around the house and the one you pick up on her, are two different ones, but she seems convinced anyway. After that she takes you to another part of the city, near to where that woman she brought by earlier lives. Now you do actually pick up on the foul scent though, and as you get farther into this area of neighborhoods it gets stronger. Not enough to cause you to shift, but it's definitely getting there. You let her know, but she wants to pursue it further!

You don't want to end up shifting, but Mags just keeps pushing you. Probably out of a cruel and sadistic enjoyment of seeing you suffer.

Anyway though you go through the area with her, trying to be careful to avoid large groups of people since you might get noticed. It's hard though since this region of town is pretty bustling at night.

Eventually though you eventually search around and come to track it to where you think it's the strongest. It's a tavern and the scent culminates in the storeroom of the stable, though the room itself is empty. However, after spending some time inside, you are able to notice the presence of two smells combined, where they diverge after that. The sickly sweet smell heads in one direction, while the offensive smell heads in another.

You tell Mags this, and she asks which one you think you should head after?
>>
>>724993
>Magdalena says
It's entirely possible that the sickly sweet smell is his den where they rest. It would explain the heavy concentration of the sweet smell which is blight. The offensive smell might be his normal unblighted scent. Or it's two vampires which is unlikely. Either way let's follow the offensive scent.

Anyway Mags tries to make sense of the different scents, which seems plausible enough to you. She says to go after the offensive scent then, which is going to be hard if you don't want to shift.

You agree to track the smell but only as far as you are capable of without shifting. It goes for a ways till you come to a multi-story house amid the usual rows, though in this case the bottom floor is a shop.

The scent is too strong now though, already your body is wanting to shift in order to protect you, only the sedative is keeping it at bay, and at the same time reducing your effectiveness as you get all woozy and mellow.

The only thing you do know, is that something is inside.

---

You are Mags now! Alicia did a good job and you greatly appreciate her help, and are glad to have her around when you need her, a reliable and maybe even eventually friend.

You can see she's having difficulty now though after coming this far, and tells you whatever is leaving the scent is in this building. She had to down a couple of those vials she keeps on her though, apparently to prevent herself from transforming but it reduces her effectiveness.

If she notices anything, or you get her attention, she'll come running and see what she can do, without trying to transform. She does ask your opinion though, if it came to it and she did for whatever reason, like by accident, or out of need, would you help her after she shifted? In the same way as before more or less, helping her avoid detection, and keeping her focused so she doesn't give into instinct and just run off to kill livestock, chase drunkards, or mingle with wolves.

You're able to open the door with magic, it's not that complicated of a spell as as long as you didn't fail horribly. With some spoken words and a wave of your hand, you faintly hear an unlocking, and the door is free to open as you enter in.

It's dark here, the first floor and the shop. It looks like the places sells shoes normally, though you're more of a boots girl yourself. At any rate you close the door behind, creep about for a little bit till you find a good spot, then settle down to just listen and focus your hearing.

It's faint at first, and you might have thought it for an insect or something, but all the way upstairs at the third floor you'd guess, you can hear the sounds of movement. Again it's not much, and you're having to listen through two floors, but it's there and it's small but definite.

You do these things and really well, it's actually multiple spells you're trying to cast, but with a 93 I think it's a fair trade that they all just go the way you want.

So you maneuver your way through the house, up the stairs and through the second floor where the occupants normally spend their days and nights you guess, and then up to the third floor.

You're met with three rooms, two with the doors smashed in and with your eyes, in the dark you can see what you smell to be blood all over the place, even up the walls. It looks like a wild animal got loose in the place and went on a rampage. The scene of carnage is honestly a bit much for you and you start to feel sick. Feel free to roll to try and stifle it and not puke.

At any rate, in the farthest room and probably the largest, you can still hear some commotion. The nearer one that is smashed in also has movement going on, but many more, smaller and more numerous and tiny in actions. The commotion at the end of the hall sounds more like a person.

You don't puke, but it's definitely much for you, this kind of bloodshed. You creep forward and look into the open door room, to see a worse scene yet, with viscera around and the remains of what you eventually realize to be children. It looks like there was a struggle, but obviously one sided. The many small movements you have to stare for awhile, until you actually see, and realize it's rats. Lots of them, having smelled the chance for some leftovers of the attack, scattered about and nibbling.

You recoil in horror and fail to stifle a scream, though with the silence spell it doesn't matter. Retching, you back away, and try to reconstitute yourself, as you struggle to breathe and move down the hallway. Looking in the last open room, you see much of the same, though it looks like the fight was less one-sided but still a loss. There's the ripped up body of what you guess to be a man by the door, and you can see movement behind the side of the bed towards the middle of the room. It sounds like someone eating something.

Well you manage to catch up to him as he goes down, but you could have made a better attempt as you kind of just fall down the stairs on top of him. Sword first fortunately, as you both hit the floor, but he shrieks in pain and thrashes and rolls around, causing you to lose grip of the sword, before he turns on you and grabs you with his bloody hands. Against your expectation that he might try to bite you, he instead just starts shaking you and slamming you into the ground and screaming incoherently.

Because of this, casting magic is going to be very difficult since you'll have trouble getting a word or gesture in edgewise.

You have trouble casting any magic as he tries to beat you into a mess, but you are able to fumble and get your silver knife out. In a panic, you try and get a good way to attack him, and end up just stabbing a bunch between the two. He clearly feels the effects of that though, and after the third or fourth stab recoils violently and jumps back, staggering across the room and knocking things over. Clutching at his chest, he murmurs and yelps in a frenzy, backing away and trying to find a way out, but not turning his back on you in case you try to attack again.

You figure not to leave anything to chance, and set about the brutal task of removing his head. It's a very unpleasant experience though you know it needs to be done, but once you do the deed you leave in a haze, needing fresh air and wishing you had someone to help you through the experience. At any rate you call out to Alicia magically and tell her it's done, before you seek out the nearest open church.

Along the way you get stopped and accosted by some people who think you're seriously injured, all covered in blood, and want to get you to an infirmary.

>What do you want to do?
>>

>>
>>726842
You seem lucid enough that they don't force you to anything, and a couple guys escort you the rest of the way and help out however they can, including one who goes to fetch a sheriff.

You're at a church though currently, what's the plan? The priest on duty is more than a little concerned when some men escort a blood drenched young woman in.
>>
>>726914
>Priest I have dire news. Regarding the incident of an escaped vampire a while back. I have found the beast and slain it. Sadly it seems to have killed some innocents. Children included. I believed it right to come to you regarding how the bodies should be handled. And anything else regarding this.
>>
>>726914
This
>>726928
And ask them if they have any spare clothes for us
>>
>>726928
That is dire news indeed, and the priest both commends you and blesses you for your efforts, but says a young woman shouldn't have to shoulder such a task or burden on her own and you should have contacted the proper authorities. He does lament for the slain family though and will try to bring it to the attention of the bishop as well.

About this time the sheriff arrives and shares a similar sentiment with the priest about going up against the threat on your own, however, he imagines some noble or other will want to thank you or at least let it be known of your service to the city. For now though, he and the priest will handle the matters.

When you ask for clothes, unfortunately the church doesn't have much in the way that you might want, however, one of the fellows who helped out says if you like, you can come to stay the night with his family, and his wife will be able to spare clothes for you. He also says he can run your bloody clothes back here to the church so they can be properly cleaned. That is of course if you don't have anyone close by you could rely on.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>726989
>A young woman shouldn't have to burden such a task on her own.
True. True. No one should. At least I had experience on my side. He wasn't the first. Hopefully he is the last.

>That is if you don't have anyone close by you can rely on.
We have a house but we'd rather not spend the night on our own.
So we shall take them up on their offer.
>>
>>727030
You figure to take the guy up on his offer, as he escorts you to his house not too far from there. He asks you to wait while he explains to his wife beforehand, then invites you in. Even though he told her what to expect, she still exclaims in fear at the sight of you, but eventually manages to calm down. It's a pretty small place so they're pretty poor, but not actual poverty. They also have a baby whom the wife is at that time taking care of. The first thing is getting clean, they don't have a proper bath but they have a small wash tub at least. The guy says he'll wait outside for his wife to give him your clothes to take back, so you're afforded some privacy. The wife offers to help you get clean and wash your hair, so while you undress she sets some water to heat and sits the baby within earshot, returning to take your clothes to her husband to run off down to the church before returning to help you wash clean.

It's not a proper bath by any stretch so you'll still have the smell about you probably, and as well the water is kind of cold on such short notice, but at least you're not covered in blood and gore. She talks while helping you clean, wondering about your ordeal and how you ever managed to accomplish such a thing, saying you must be very brave and faithful to triumph against such a danger. She supposes there will be some reward as well, if you dealt with such a threat that went unnoticed by the sin-seekers.
>>
>>727126
>How we managed to accomplish it.

>Would you believe me if I said it I did it before? This is my second time fighting one. It was actually easier this time. Less illusions.

>I wish I could have stopped it before it found that family though. At leat the monster is gone now.
>Sinseekers

>Wait what are those?

>Sin-Seekers

Holy Shit that sounds hot

Tell her we can feel things like vamp and the like with our senses and tell her we've killed another one on Rea
>>
>>727146
She is quite surprised when she hears of your past experience, and asks if you're an inquisitorial member or assistant, or a saintly order adherent? She doesn't think women to such roles, but it would be a nice surprise if that were so.

>>727150
You tell her of your ability to sense things like that, she imagines it to be a holy gift if that's the case, probably writing off your eyes as falling under the same category.

Out of curiosity you ask her what the sin-seekers are, she says that's just a local unofficial slang for them, they follow an actual order but she can't remember the full details. Basically though they're a militia that goes around hunting and driving out blights upon the faith, as led and instructed by officials. Basically it's Almace's version of the Inquisition to the south, which doesn't have a proper presence here.

In a simple explanation, she describes them as angry mobs who once a month go around looking for corruptive influences and have purgings. She's surprised you haven't encountered them if you've been in the city for some time, and tells you where they have their monthly burnings. The next one is coming up fairly soon anyway, and they usually manage to catch a few heretics, witches or monsters, usually lycanthropes.

After helping you to get better clean, she gives you some clothes of hers, and asks if you won't take care of the baby then while she prepares an early dinner for when her husband returns, and of course you're welcome to join them if you're spending the night. She imagines her husband will take the living room so you can share the bed with her and the baby.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>727204
I fear for Fera and Alicia now

Help her with the baby and with dinner if needed
>>
>>727235
You help out and hold the baby and assist where you can while she makes dinner. It's a really nice experience, and though certainly jarring from just killing a vampire, it helps to take your mind off it at least. Also gives you some small sense of envy of her, having a nice husband and family life, which to some extent will always be at least some desire to you.

But anyway, the husband gets home while dinner is almost ready, glad to see everything is working out. You sit down with them while the wife takes the baby from you after doling out the food. It's a pretty good meal, and it's another nice experience for the conversation that takes place. Between the usual you'd expect of them as a couple like her wanting to know about his day, they also are interested in you and who you are, what your story is. You can entertain and amaze them if you like.

Either way, not long after and the wife is set to turn in for the night. As expected the husband offers you to sleep in their bed in his place, he'll take the living room so will stay up awhile longer reading.

In the bedroom before sleep, the wife says her prayers and then sits in bed to nurse the baby before sleep, figuring another few minutes of conversation before turning the lights off. She happens to ask about your family and if you've got one yourself, or a man of your own, children maybe? If you had any questions for her either, now's your chance, otherwise you can just turn in for the night.
>>
>>727319

>>
>>727319
>Children
No
>A Man
No
>Family
Yes I have one.

are we gonna get approached by Inquisitors or a saintly order now? It'll be a nice Pat on the back at least.
>>
So over dinner you relate some experiences to them, and then with the wife in bed talk about your personal life a little, well to leave out any activities with other women. Given your single status, she thinks to be a religious order member, like a vampire slaying nun or something. Otherwise it's a little odd for a woman of your age to be single without relationship prospects.

---

It's an alright sleep, occasionally woken as with the wife, by the baby but that's expected. Still, a good rest and thankfully free of nightmares. The next morning by the time you wake up the couple have been up for awhile already, and waited to have breakfast till you were able to join them.

A little while later after the husband has left to work, the sheriff shows up to explain some of what they did with the clean up and proper rites, and says he's been asked by a local official that you attend the next Fire Eve where you'll be thanked and rewarded for your service to the city.

Otherwise you're free to go. You've got classes today, but you know on the matter of a vampire it would obviously be an accepted excuse. You could even ask the sheriff to go deliver that information/news to the school so they know and can make the proper adjustments to schedules, if you had anything you wanted to take care of instead of just rushing to class.

>What do you want to do?

>>727853
Inquisitors don't really operate in Almace. A saintly order perhaps though, if they become aware of your deeds.
>>
>>728238
go to Fera and lay out the good news before heading to school

>Fire Eve
Is that where they burn people?
>>
>>728401
That's right, also called a Night of Pyres, where they go around looking for undesirables to burn at the stake.

At any rate though you go to Fera's place and stop by to let her know the news and what you did. She's relieved to hear of it and prays it wasn't too much trouble, though she does hope you didn't risk life and limb just for her sake. Either way she's glad you're alright and hugs you and kisses your face in joy. She laments though they you'd not be able to stay longer to celebrate and whatnot.

So you plan to head back to school, anything else you want to do before returning?
>>
>>728426
Nah, just go back to classes

also, can we leave school when the classes are done? i want to warn Fera and Alicia not to go outside these next days
>>
>>728476
Right, you just make it for class. You miss the first one, but it's just rescheduled for later in the day. You're still doing catch-up from your time missed, so it's rigorous learning, but less-strictly adhered to than typical class schedules.

You get out later than normal, but if you want you can go to to either Alicia or Fera, you just have to wait for Julien to come get you to escort you out of the school.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>728821
Let's find Vela we still have to get all the information about the banquet or feast or whatever.
>>
>>728861
Vela is around the grounds, you're able to find her and ask her about the fest. She says it's at the end of this week, so in about 5 days time. It's pretty straightforward, just a fest they normally do back in her country, the folks from there will be holding one in their neighborhood. Lots of eating, drinking, singing and dancing. She says if you like you can bring a person or two with you, and she already knows Aea to be going.
>>
>>728931
Wait do we know when the next Night of Pyres is?
And let's wait for Julien.
>>
>>728964
It's always the first weekend of the month. So in this case it would be just under two weeks from now.

Julien eventually shows up and asks how you're doing after hearing about last night's ordeal from Alicia, and asking how classes were?

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>728977
>How classes were
Rigorous but manageable.
>How we're doing after the incident.
Doing fine I think. I'm supposed to attend some event to be thanked formally.

(We still haven't told Julien what we are right?)
>>
>>728989
He knows, he doesn't mind though, thinks it's pretty cool.
>>
>>729006
>Thinks it's pretty cool
And our daily reminder that Julien has great taste in company.

So let's head off to Alicia to tell her about the sin seekers and the pure celebration shit.
Then we should head to the menagerie to visit the dragon missus and talk.
And give Aea ingredients and shit like we always do
>>
>>729015
You go to Alicia to tell her about the possible threat to her. She says she knows about it already though, it was still going on when last she was in the capitol. She avoided it all then, she plans to avoid it all now. She does say she might need to lock herself in that night though, the dying screams and howls of fellow lycanthropes drive her to shift. This whole conversation is shouted at a distance though since you still reek of dead vampire to her.

As for ingredients, Aea doesn't take them anymore, she said don't bother.

Either way you go to see the dragoness, and after the standard wait time, you're allowed in.
>>
>>729061
>I'm back! Finally the whole fiasco is over. I've killed the vampire and we can talk.
>So you want to know more about vampires? I'm not an expert but will try to share what I know if you want me to.
>>
>>729070
She says good for you, you killed an inferior trash being! You must feel great about yourself!

She actually doesn't care that much about vampires or knowing about them. You can still talk about it and describe it to her, but her interest is strained at best.
>>
>>729091
>An inferior trash being.

>Aea doesn't take our spit and stuff anymore?

No. Remember, she said she can't in good conscience take anything from you when Alicia is objectively the better alchemist. She still makes potions and such, but not with ingredients from you.

>>729100
Well that's good then she says, always best to correct personal annoyances.

At any rate she asks if you need something of her, that seems to be your thing after all.
>>
>>729968
>She can't in good conscience.
Why the hell does she think we hired her.
Skill is a consideration yes but it's also personality.
The mutations will eventually alter our mind and make our emotions stronger and more volatile.
We need friends. Like her. At our side.
To pull us back down when we need it.

>Ask if she needs anything of her
Ask her more about her past.
She traveled around with that empire soldier.
What did she do?
Does she have any interesting stories?
>>
>>729968
>>729996
This and after we're done let's go to Fera's home, i need to ask her some questions
>>
>>729968
Oh and ask how she came to live here.
>>
>>729996
She says if you want her friendship you don't need to pay for it by giving her money or ingredients. She also reminds you that she wasn't ever planning on sticking around forever, if you ever need her she'll try to be there but she's not your servant and she's not going to structure her life around you. Not much longer and she's going to have to finally settle down anyway, when she's got a family she asks if you expect her to drop everything and come running still?

>>730629
You ask her more about her past, she talks about how she slumbered after the old Empire collapsed, and reawakened at the time of the formation of Alms when the Meresh invaders were repelled by Charles the Shield. That was a tough time because while the Alsans were friendly towards her, the Almese through their history have been very mixed towards her, the men of Alms no exception.

You stray back to the Alsan officer though, and her time with him. She remembers it fondly, and how she helped with various things from minor to major, from just basic hunting and scouting, to displays of power against enemies to incite fear. She became sort of a mascot and beloved addition to that legion, and she loved it in her youth. Some memories of interest include her presence helping to instill order in captive populations as a sign of authority, meeting alongside Alsan officials to act as sort of a threatening elephant in the room, and perhaps most famously at least to her memory, combatting a opposing native leader who himself had attracted to his side a magical beast, a bull of monstrous character.

She of course remembers other things, but her time with the officer was relatively short compared to her overall time among the old Empire, and of course the painful memories to come from her association with him, render that time as memorable but still just a footnote.
>>
>>730629
As for how she came to live her, her most recent reawakening, she found Almace in proper form, and dragons mostly gone from the world. Already getting on in years, she felt it better to just avoid any trouble and sought those in power. After proving her friendliness and assisting the crown in matters, they proclaimed a protective edict concerning her, and ended up renovating this place for her to live, that they might need her again. Though in truth it was understood that just her commitment to peaceful existence was thanks enough.

And here she's been ever since. Your talking about her past makes her reflect on Almace as it was, and thinking on it she feels some sense of time-tested devotion to the region through all its changing guises, even a sense of patriotism and contentedness in her choice. She doesn't care much for humans, but admits they made quite an accomplishment with this nation, and in that regard she admits to feeling equal in her belonging alongside them. Knowing what she knows now, she kind of wishes she took a more active role even in shaping and fostering it, helping it to be all it could be and more.

She comes to consider you, and asks how you feel in the big picture of things, of Almace? She knows her role doesn't compare with a woman's, and wonders how you feel from that perspective.
>>
>>731135
>Expecting her to come running.
No. We never expected this to last forever.
Would you mind us flying in to say hi?
That is if we don't get shot down out of the sky.
(This is morbid humor)
>If we want her friendship we don't need to pay her.
I didn't think that was what we were doing. I was just annoyed about her not using more effective things because of Alicia's presence when I thought said superior stuff could let us charge higher prices.
We try to keep our business and personal life separate. With varying degrees of success.
>>731169
>How we feel in the big picture of things.
Right now we aren't that impressive.
But we have aspirations to help people and do great things. Try to become a positive force. That's why we need to get strong and learn when we can.
>>
>>731199
She says you can drop by whenever you feel like of course. She'll just have to ask that you give rides to the kids.

As for the business side, she is selling potions at a higher cost, but those are the ones made by Alicia. Every couple of days, Alicia makes some spare potions using ingredients you give her, Julien runs them over to Aea who then sells them. If maximum profit is the goal, Alicia should be the only one handling stuff you give her.

---

The dragoness says that makes sense since it's the country of your birth. She also says though, deep down you know the way to reach those goals you want, and how you can create the most difference in the world.
>>
>>731250
>She also says though, deep down you know the way to reach those goals you want, and how you can create the most difference in the world.

That tempting.
She must've taken levels in charisma.
Anyways we can do show her that cleanse thing soon. About wintertime.
(We have a winter break iirc)

So I know you weren't always around that officer.
What about before then. What did you do?
>>
>>731268
Mentioning the cleanse thing, no better time than winter she says. Not much longer till you start breathing fire she says, what a way to keep warm.

At any rate you bring up her time from before meeting the officer. She kind of shrugs it off, she was really young before then, just a little kid basically. She lived in the forests, hunted for food and made a nest for herself and lived a simple life. Probably to your interest, her only contact with commoners alternated between fleeing from them or stealing from them, and one local boy she got to knowing and came to understand some about humans at least.
>>
>>731341
(I'm gonna be honest I'm hyped about breathing fire)
>This was nice. Thank you for telling me all this. So... see you when my winter break starts?
>Good bye hug as is the quota.
>>
>>731346
Well that's asssuming your father is a red dragon.

But you thank her for the time and hope to see her over the break. She says that may not be possible since during the proper winter months the menagerie is closed and she is moved to royal grounds. She supposes maybe she could be able to ask for you personally, if you don't mind them knowing why.

You are able to hug her though, her big paw/hand/thing holding you close and warm. As always she reminds you it's just you and her, and bids you well.

>What do you want to do now?
>>

I don't really feel like we have much to do for now but settle into a routine for a bit(until the feast because I want to see that)

So the routine.
>Attend school obviously.
>Get back into our exercise.
>Finally get to figuring out how to play that lute.
>And let's get to studying magic with a particular focus. Let's start looking into magnification magic so we can examine things the human eye might not be able to see.

I want us to get on to making that magic microscope
>>

>If you don't mind them knowing why.
(So how are we going to decide our scale color and breath type? Rolls?)
>>
>>731360
Lets go visit Fera
>>
>>731369
For a routine, I'll see what the consensus is.

As for a magic microscope, you could get a magic lens right now, and your already advanced eyesight would allow you to see things very small.

>>731372
As for dragon type, I'd figured to just keep things as standard "dragon" but if people really wanted I could consider making it to have colors. If that was the case, then you guys would just vote or decide on what one you liked the most.
>>
>>731377
Oh and I don't think fera is in any danger.
Unless she tells someone she is a degenerate.
Or we do.
(Anyways I'm going to sleep in a bit)
>>
>>731377
Oh sure right, you go to see Fera. It's evening by the time you get there. When you meet her she's planning on going out but she's always willing to change her schedule to suit you, if you wanted to talk or do something else, or even just go out together.
>>
>>731381
>See things very small
Cellular level?
We need to at least reach that.

Also I'd like for voting for scale color and breath type.
>>
>>731382
Im afraid may not the first girl she's tried to approach, so I kinda want to ask her about it just to be sure
>>731385
Ask her if we're the first chick she's approached and ask her if we can go with her to wherever she was going
>>
>>731389
Well of she's been living here for multiple years and she did tell someone.
She'd probably be dead already.
The burning is yearly.
>>
>>731386
I think you could manage a very basic cellular level, yes. Like on the level of Leeuwenhoek spying cork cells. With enough of a proper apparatus of course.

As for colors, my main concern with it is that while this setting has some aspects of modern fantasy and even D&D, it's mostly supposed to be more based on real life legends and myths and stuff. Introducing colored dragons would stray into the fantasy I feel, and also would limit the potential of trespassing to another plane, where it's literally like D&D and colored dragons are the rule.

>>731391

She says she's approached other women, but you're the one she's gone the farthest with and has feelings for. Before you she never got beyond drinking kissing.

She asks why you want to know, and hopes it's not a problem for you, assuring you that her feelings for you are the one that matters to her. You ask her about going with her, she says sure and she'd love to have you along. She's just going out as usual to have some fun, she knows of a little saintly gathering that is going to happen, and afterward might go to a tavern and watch people compete in drinking games or gambling.

Nice
I suppose we could go but we shouldn't participate in the drinking contest since we have school tomorrow
>>
>>731410
You don't plan on a hard evening but just going out together should be nice. She takes a little longer to finally be ready, and then you head out together. She figures with you along, maybe not such PG fun though so she figures to skip the saintly gathering and go to a nightly square meet. You find it's mostly frequented by local city-resident gypsies, but there's a fair number of fellow Almese who show up to check out and participate in the merriments. Fera warns you to watch your pockets, but otherwise it's more or less harmless. First thing's first, you each get some wine, and then sit down to a wagon stage performance. It's surprisingly funny and you have a great time laughing and jeering together, after which she asks you to dance.
>>
>>731427
Why not?
If anyone asks we're just good friends
>>
>>731433
You dance together and continue to have a great time and enjoy yourself. As you find out, Fera is actually a really good dancer too. No one seems to mind you dancing together either since you aren't the only ones doing it, and it's not like you're slow dancing or having a lot of close contact together.

After awhile and you tire yourself out, while taking a breather a couple guys approach the both of you, complimenting your vibrance and style, and offer to buy some food here for the lot of you if you'll join them.
>>
>>731450

Plus if anyone that knows Charles and us sees us gossip is going to get around
>>
>>731493
You decline, they politely accept just as well and bid you good eve. After that Fera figures to head to a nearby parlor, where there's some interesting things for sure. Drinks are a given, but gambling is a plenty and some sporting. Most notably some ring fights, rat catching, and cards.

Fera asks if you have interest in any, or just hang out and spend time in the environment?

Well rat catching is, they have a ratter dog, and take bets on how many rats it can kill in a certain amount of time, in an enclosed space.

With a 78 though, after watching a couple rounds, you get a good impression and feel you can make a good bet if you want.

As for drinking, roll to resist your usual compulsion to drink more.
>>
Rolled 63 (1d100)

One last roll before sleep
And make that bet
>>
>>731510
It's tempting, and you'll definitely go for more than one drink, but you don't fall to excess.

As for the gambling, you and Fera both make a different bet. Between you, one is right and you make a small bit of money, enough to cover the drinks cost and some.

>What do you want to do now?

It's been a couple hours but it's still not late really, so you've got time to do whatever. Fera is just happy to be out with you.
>>
>>731400
Well then don't make every color available.
Maybe have a few sensible colors (green, tan yellow colored) like the kind that could occur naturally in the environment.
Or white. In which case you also get frost breath. Because dad was apparently from the north.

>>731566
Let's look for any performers. Preferably people that play the lute.
>>
>>731566
This
>>731750
And keep hanging out until it's time to go back to the school before it closes
>>
>>731750
If it does go colored though, it's worth noting that you would technically be hard limiting yourself. As a standard "dragon" it's pretty open ended. As a "red dragon" it's very clear what your strengths and weaknesses are, and what you can and cannot do.

No lute players here since it's kind of a higher brow instrument, but there is a hurdy gurdy player here and it's way cooler and more interesting anyway.

>>731884
Since it's in the week, the school won't close. They'll shut the gate at night but they'll still have a guard on duty and let you in.

More drinking? Oh dear. Well you still manage to avoid going down the path entirely, but you feel more amenable to some more drinks, and get a little tipsy.

You find a table no problem though, but this place doesn't really do food other than some small snacks. Interestingly enough a goblin lad sidles up to try and charm you, and offers to buy you dinner proper seeing you were interested in food.
>>
>>732408
Some snacks will do, turn him down but allow him to stay if he wants

Dragon sense him for good measure
>>
>>732430
Snacks it is then. They're not that appealing and you kind of wish you hadn't ordered them, but food is food. You turn down the gobbo's initial advances, but when you invite him to stay, he continues to remain charming and doesn't give up.

You sense him just because, and as expected, while he definitely wants some human P, he also does have an ulterior motive. You try to ask him what's up and he admits he was checking you out and obviously can't say for certain, but you look like a big tough lass who can handle herself, a farm girl maybe? Helping dad lift hay bales and plow the field? He says you'd be a great fit for a little sport fighting they've got going if you're interested. Not mixed either, he clarifies if you were worrying, they've got guys to fight too obviously, but it helps to spice things up and adds a bit of flair, if between all the guys fighting they can have a lady match thrown in for fun. He makes the money sound good, and if you're worried about the fight itself, the women competitors aren't supposed to actually seriously fight or hurt one another, just put on a show really. A little cat fight to amp up the betting and interest. Even better if you and Fera are friends already, and already have some rapport.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>732527
Holy Shit
No
Tell him we're not that strong and that we barely have any stamina to go around
Finish up the snacks and start heading back to school

Also drop off Fera on our way there
>>
>>732579
You decline and figure to take your leave before you wind up doing something you shouldn't. Along the way back you also accompany Fera home. She thanks you for going out with her tonight and hopes you can spend more time together, and offers you to stay if you're too tipsy to get back to the school.

Either way though unless there's anything else you want to do you can head back wherever you like.

We can use the couple we slept over with.
>>
>>735584
They're quite poorly, they wouldn't be able to support her. Maybe you could pay them, but you could just as well try to find a better off family, you suppose.

>>735213
Coffee exists but it's not a solid grip on the continent yet, it's still largely considered a heretic's drink from the near east.

At any rate though you can get breakfast with everyone, before you follow your schedule of personal study.

And our daily reminder that Almace as a population has shit taste.

You eat with those who stick around for the communal breakfast. Taking it as a chance to hone your taste sense, you get an impression of not only who made the food and how long ago, but the environment it was made in and the state of the room. Compared to all your other senses it's the hardest to understand and you're not sure you'll ever get used to it.

After breakfast though your schedule for the day is pretty straightforward.

>What's the plan?

That sounds like a shit relationship mate.
Because if we're going to do everything we need to then we'll have to travel alot.
And what if we jump dimensions?
>>
I'll be pretty busy today, but will try to continue things when I return, and see about making the next thread at some point or other.

As usual in the meantime if someone wants to take over they can.

>>737164
Most men would be willing to look past the scars to sleep with Mags, but not for considering her as a wife. Especially with the dragon traits, they're not going to want their children to inherit that.

>>737276
While most peasantry would care less about the physical traits, they would care more about just the dragon detail, and would be more superstitious and afraid of it, think it's devilry and whatnot. A higher class guy would at least have education to overlook superstition (usually).

>>737286
>>737304
It's not impossible that Fera could adjust overtime, just as you did, and all the things you had to adjust to were about you yourself rather than someone you knew. You have to remember that Mags at the start was of the same mentality and sentiment as any other peasant, and in many ways still is.

Though it may be a moot point because you wouldn't be able to actually marry Fera (or any woman for that matter) in this setting anyway. Well unless like, gender changing was involved, but that's not really a solution to the problem.
>>
>>737538
Oh and as usual I can at least answer questions or we can expand on the setting and characters or whatever in the meantime. Just for now as usual, the plot is on pause.

Unless of course someone else advances it.
>>
>>737538
Do you have time to answer questions?
Can we use Weaving to make a spell similar in effect to a Kamehameha?
We need a spell that does high damage. Collateral damage be damned.
And how risky would making a flight spell be?
Could we accidentally launch ourselves into the stratosphere if we roll too high?
>>
>>737589
I don't know about a giant laser beam shooting out of your hands, but you can make high damage or highly destructive spells. It will end up attracting attention though.

Same with flight, even more so. If you're careful about it you wouldn't shoot into space, just take a long time with the spell ritual and whatnot. The problem would be coming back down or landing safely. It seems kind of redundant though when you could be able to fly naturally with wings.
>>
>>737655
>Having wings and a flight spell is redundant.

Do you know how many redundancies and safety measures a plane has?

Flying is no joke.

How about a spell focused on explosions and not fire.
We can walk the path of explosions.
(And an I get a general Idea of how much destruction it will cause and it's AoE?)
>>
>>737682
The destruction and size would depend how much magic you put into it. Casting on the fly as you are now though, the most you can do is probably a bit better than your usual combustion spell. Maybe around quarter and half-dragon looking, it would reliably be like a hand grenade and mortar shell respectively.

If you take the time to channel the spell though, there's not much an upper limit on the potential. Like if you went fully dragon and channeled an explosion spell for a hundred years straight, you could probably destroy between a country and small continent. Assuming you could live that long, channeling for a thousand years, you could shatter an earth-like planet in size.
>>
>>737733
It's worth noting though that you're not immune to explosions, like you are fire. Or, would be.
>>
>>737733
Ok so say we want to kill alot of people in a short time what's the best thing for that.
Rain fire?
Rain frost.
Acid rain?
Make an army of golems

Oh and can we make a spell that functions like combustion but freezes people solid instead?
>>
>>737760
Flyover with fire breath?

And yeah you could do something like a temperature implosion that flash freezes everything in an area. Or an ice explosion.

As for killing a bunch of people quickly, honestly probably something like poison fumes or something like that. I'm sure there's some high level D&D spells which you could creatively make an equivalent, which would kill a ton of people.

Like summoning a school of ghost sharks or giant killer bees or something, or just vomiting lava on them, or summoning a lava spike from underground. Or a mega boulder dropped on them, or a tornado, who knows?

>Actually on second thought even simpler, just opening a hole into space beneath them, or a hole to the sun near them.
>>
>>737833
That sounds really plausible actually.
Just open a tear in space between the surface of the sun and some unsuspecting town.

And maybe we can combine a fire spell and a tornado spell.
Firenado time.
>>
>>737833
Can we make a spell to root us to the ground?
Like make our own personal gravity that is unaffected by outside forces.
So we don't get pulled in by the tornado.

We can also use it to walk on walls and ceilings.
>>
>>737844
It would obviously be a lot harder to do a space portal of course though, than like, spewing toxic vapors at them, or just walking over and crushing them beneath your feet or eating them.

And combining magic is something that is possible but you don't yet know how to do.
>>
>>737856
Wait.
>Tornados
>Ghost sharks

Ghost Sharknado?

And can we find a book to teach us how to do it in the school Library.

We need Sharknado
>>
>>737850
Affecting gravity would be quite hard, even personal gravity, but you could very easily make a spell that just sticks your feet to the ground or some surface.
>>
>>737864
If they're ghosts they wouldn't be affected by the tornado!
>>
>>737876
Obviously they swim around in the tornado and nom on anyone that gets caught inside.

>>
>>737760
Also it occurs to me now that it would probably be a lot easier and less risky to just charm or hypnotize people, and bend them to your will, rather than kill them all. The more dragonic you are, the more you can dominate others with your will/instinct.
>>
>>738274
This is shameful.
Dragons have so much fluidity in what they can do but don't because they act like teenagers.

Please tell me there is one kingdom ruled by a benevolent dragon.
>>
>>738296
If they didn't have flaws then they would dominate the whole setting of course! There's probably an alternate dimension version of this setting where the dragons aren't dumb, and rule over all.

As for this one though, you have no way of knowing if anywhere is ruled by a benevolent dragon. The only thing you do know is that in the Orient, the different dragons there live more harmoniously with people and nature, so maybe they wouldn't rule over anyone (by choice), but aren't so blind as to never do anything constructive and just be selfish and greedy.

How do we cast the same spell on multiple people at once.

The higher version of the spell.

So combustion for one person, greater combustion for several people, maximized combustion for a ton of people.
>>
>>742129
So can we Weave an upgraded version?
And can we overlay the multiple blasts on one target for increased damage?

Also what dragon color would have the highest magic power?
>>
>>742148
Well normal spells normally will have higher grades. For spells you've created though, yes you'd have to create the more powerful versions.

As for color I wouldn't imagine it to affect magic level, rather than things like say age, or size.
