You are in command over the Imperial Japanese Battleship Hyuga, starting at the very beginning of December 1941. Due to the will of players and that of the dice, history may go quite differently from what we know. For all intents and purposes, this is a wargame. It is incredibly important that you check the Pastebin link to familiarize yourself with the relatively simple dice mechanics, and to check it somewhat often as I may change important details of it as time goes on.

Last time on Hyuga Quest, we tanked through 15" gunfire, torpedoes, and bombs, which caused us to lose time to repairs. However, we were retrofitted with the 38 cm/52 Type 17 Naval Gun.

Your superiors give you a simple choice, with little explantion...

You select Operation MI, and are informed that you will be going to an island code named "AF". You are instructed to depart Kure alongside several cruisers, destroyers, and the Kongo class battleships, as well as the Kido Butai. Your group will be trailed by a larger surface force, containing even the might of the Yamato.

The force departs on May 28th, and the larger force trailing closely behind. A smaller force was sent on Operation AL to be a distraction of sorts.

You arrive not far from the island on June 4th, the carriers launching aircraft to attack the atoll, and all is quiet.

The previous day the Occupation Force was spotted by American PBY flying boats, giving the Americans a general idea of where the fleet is, and you now know that they will be as well.

You have a floatplane ready, and prepare to launch.

The battle has begun.

The floatplane spots a Lexington class carrier, and two Yorktown class carriers before being shot down by American fighters.

Now the American's are certain that the Japanese are here.

However, the Kido Butai's aircraft change course from attacking the atoll to attacking the enemy carriers, and the great air battle begins.

Long range, maybe try to make sure we keep a ship or two in AA range for support.

You move forwards to get the enemy carriers at the very edge of your striking range, with Mikuma and Mogami ahead of you, leading the sort of charge you are performing.

Enemy dive and torpedo bombers notice this, and mistake the cruisers for battleships.

They land three bomb hits on Mikuma, disabling her rear batteries and setting her aflame.

The aircraft do however take an estimated loss of ten aircraft from AA fire from the cruisers.

The Lexington class is now at the very edge of your range...

if you light its deck on fire, or destory the elevator. you've crippled the carrier and an entire air-wing.

*I may have made a slight error before. I misread an OOB, it's three Yorktown class, no Lexington class were present. My mistake.
>>712774
All but a select few of your your shells splash at varying distances from the carrier, scoring several straddles and near misses.

Those select shells are six 15" shells, which tear holes in the flight deck, and one hits the bridge.

One manages to go down the elevator currently servicing an aircraft due to the extreme angle that the shells are hitting at, causing an ammunition load to explode, setting off a chain reaction of explosions within the carrier, an elevator launched skyward. Your crew, or at least those who can see it, cheer wildly.

(USS Hornet, sunk)

>To be continued

Sorry about the shorter-than-usual thread, as I have a mild fever and headache as of this moment, and have had all day today and yesterday.

I will return next week, with more Midway action.

Also, if anyone is interested, there's a kill list in the pastebin.

I'll answer questions and all tonight, and tomorrow morning.

Aircraft can and did however operate from the other carriers, which did happen during Midway. They can also land on the atoll's runways as well.
>>
>>713946
yes but that forces either a Carrier to take longer to launch planes/run out of fuel/ammo quicker, Or it shuts down the Atoll airfield for the moment when they go to land. Plus if I remember correctly not every plane on a carrier is launched at once. They go in waves.
>>
>>713946
Do we have an estimate on the number of aircraft that went down with the CV?

More airplanes can easily be built, with American industrial power

Aviators can't be trained nearly as quickly though, and that's where real blow is dealt

Just looking through the pastebin, but did we not get the acoustic torpedoes with our last refit?
>>

No. The marriage of them and the Long Lance is still in development. It should be finished by June 1943.
