You feel everything shake, and the darkness break around you. Light floods in, near blinding you at first until your eyes adjust. With a blink, you shake off the darkness and bounce out into grass, finding yourself rolling out of control. “Wahhh!” You yell aloud as you try to stop yourself.

“Ah, another one's hatched, huh?” You hear a deep voice growl from above you. Something in you causes you to shiver in fear as you try to wiggle your way into the grass to hide. You feel a soft maw wrap around you and the ground part from underneath you.

“Please don't eat me.” You mumble, peering out a single eye out to see the red beast holding you.

“Eat you? I'm the daycare supervisor.” The thing grumbles with you in its maw before it sets you down right-side up.

You feel... fuzzy and... armless? Legless? Bouncy? The thing in front of you sits down with a feathered tail splayed high and proud as it lifts a paw to pet you.

“You're a late one aren'tchya? Don't worry, you'll do just fine...” The red thing stops for a moment, suddenly growing sullen, “You're gonna be fine here for now, though it's a mon eat mon world out there, you should start training as soon as possible.”

“That's your name, I think. Don't see too many of you kids.”

“I'm Dodomon. Hummm.” You bounce a little and roll side to side as you adjust to your new form of locomotion. You feel your body fold in as you flex and spring as you release. As you bounce around, you find yourself laughing despite yourself. “This is so weird! Hey, hey, Elecmon I'm hungry!”

The red monster laughs and pulls out a chunk of meat on a bone. “Here's some meat for ya, fresh out of the garden!”

“Garden?” You say, already munching down the meat bone and all. Surprisingly, your jaws feel as hard as iron. So strong!

“If you'd like to go train, there's a gym not far from here for babies such as yourself. If anyone bullies you, blow bubbles into the air and I'll be right there.”

You see other little bouncing things not unlike yourself play around the kindergarten.

Dorimon and Wanyamon.

Bouncing around the fields, Elecmon watches after you for a while as you roll around, trying to figure out how to move better. Soon enough you position yourself solidly enough to try to spit... something.

Taking a deep breath, you feel something manifest in your body right up until you spit out a series of little metal beads that spray all over the place before rolling through the grass and evaporating with an electronic flicker. “Elecmon! How do I shoot bubbles?”

Elecmon trots on over on all fours before sitting on his haunches. “Try again? Let me see?”

You repeat the attack, spraying metal beads all over.

“Hm. Looks like I'll have to watch for beads too!” Elecmon pats your head and runs over.


Satisfied with that, you head over to the gym post-haste with Elecmon's direction.

The gym that you come up to is actually an open area with a waterfall, a punching bag, a track, a board where a beetle thing is teaching strange symbols, a boulder a team of little balls like yourself are pushing, and finally a giant boxing glove.

Other baby monsters are dashing around the track, with a tailed blue on in the lead. At the Punching bag a pink monster with antennae is beating it up with some smashing attacks, the lead at the board seems to be between two little cat-like monsters with ears not unlike your own, and no one's really at the boxing glove or the waterfall... The team pushing the boulder seems to be a clique of their own.

Using extended variations of evolutions too. You guys are going to get a tree of unlocked evolutions once you hit champion for the first time. Likely going to run this in a Digimon World 3 fashion where you have multiple digivolutions stocked up and use your rookie base form for most things unless you get a condensed champ like gatomon or something.

You bounce from place to place trying to figure out where you should go when you finally decide to test out how hard your head is. Springing besides the others moving the boulder, you roll to the side a bit, still lacking fine control as one of the pushers breaks off to laugh at you.

“Oh, hey look at this newbie! First time back at daycare?” One with a black body jiggles at it chuckles.

“Comin to help us out? Someday we're gonna push this boulder straight to the top of this hill!” A little jellyfish calls back with a stupid little smile. You kinda wanna snap him up.

“Yeah, I'm gonna help out!” Hopping over, you bash your head against the rock, smashing your head hard against it. Surprisingly, your fur is so hard that you don't feel the roughness at all.

As you work with the others you feel healthier and stronger. By the end of the hour, everyone is rolled out while the next round of pushers get at it. The boulder got up a bit, but with the switch it's right back down where it was.

“Hey, you weren't too bad stranger. You a reincarnee too?” The black one asks, its yellow eyes grinning at you as sweat drips from its head.

“Reincarnee?”

“Yeah, most of us here got drained. Think of this as a respawn point. Sucks, but we need to eat meat and build ourselves back up. Luckily, everyone switched servers recently so only the Sovereigns are mega which means the rest of us have a chance to occupy the Royal nights, the devas, or build our own cities! I'm so excited!” The Black thing hops up. “I'm Botamon. Though since I'm a lot of Botamons, um, you can call me Silver!”

Silver squints his yellow eyes, “Mmm, yeah, true, but I'm not really lookin to be a nerd.” The black jelly monster bounds away, “Good luck Dodomon!”

At the chalkboard the beetle monster draws a bunch of strange symbols on the board. By some of the other symbols you figure that this is some kind of arithmetic or programming language, or both.
When everyone's asked a a question two cat monsters, one white and the other black jump up with little tails trailing after them with the answer.

As you sit listening to them talk you actually learn a lot. Okay, so you're a digimon in the digital world... Attacks are made by programming and charging digital power and unleashing it with the appropriate effect to bust hit another. Pure power is useful, but attribute and elemental affinities are also important.

You ask what attribute is and they tell you about how Vaccines bust viruses, viruses bust data, and data busts vaccine.
You recall your stat-screen from earlier:

The two cat-tailed monsters continue to try one-upping each other. You eventually find out that their names are Blanche and Noire. The Beetle monster, Tentomon constantly berates them and occasionally uses his “Super Shocker” to restore order.

After the lesson disperses Blanch and Noire bound around you, eyeing you carefully.

“This newbie's a Dodomon? That's unusual. What the heck does this turn into again?” The black one's tone is abrasive, almost making you flinch. She's mean.

“Noire, you dumb hag. He can turn into a bunch of machine type datas or dragon-types. You should go wail on that bag like Coral and the wrecking crew.”

“Ooo” Noire purrs, “Dragon-types are powerful and ferocious~” She snaps her teeth at you and you flinch. “This one seems like a loser though.” She bounds away to something else without looking back.

Blanch rolls besides you and sidles up to flick you with a tail, “Don't mind her, she's just a mean ol' virus. I was hunting her and we double Koed each other, ended up right back here, same daycare even, go figure. If you want to bask in my greatness you're free to do so. Ta!” Blanche chases after, leaving you alone with the dispersing class.

Let's show that Noire we're tough!

Bounding over to the boxing glove, the blue bolt “Macho” rushes past on the track as he slaps other monsters up to speed.

“Hiya! Hiya! You're just gonna get absorbed like that! Faster! Go!”

Sitting before the boxing glove, you stare it down resolutely. As you try to figure out how this thing works- WHAM! The glove springs out, knocking you back to the ground as a chuckling pink thing with huge teeth laughs at you.
“Weren't expecting that, were you?!” The thing chuckles from behind the apparatus operating the glove. “Get back up to bat! You're not done toughening up yet!”

Wary, but steadfast, you get back in front of the glove, closing your eyes.

Wham! You're sprawling again.

“Defend! Don't just take it you idiot!”

Eyes still spinning, you hop up. Right as you hear a click, you dig in, letting your hard fur take the brunt and glancing the glove off your squishy hide, “I did-” WHAM!

“Eyes open rookie!”

You actually lose track of time as you' get your lights knocked out over and over again.

And after eating another hunk of meat from the gardens, you feel a sudden change occur as your texture is ripped away, your framework exposed as it reconfigured itself with the addition of two little legs and a tail.

Tail wagging, you sprint forward with a newfound mobility. As you try turning, you spin out, and roll into the water of the waterfall and sinking down due to your heavy body. You blow bubbles as you sit in the water, walking on out before going to sleep on the spot.

Gonna go to sleep for the night, might continue come the morning if this is still up or later tonight otherwise.

Morning comes around and the sun wakes you by shining in your eyes. Blinking back your sleepiness, you yawn with what feels like your whole body before taking another look around.

Now that you really look, the sky has a bunch of streams of symbols. Still not particularly fluent and they move too fast to read, but you can at least tell that there's digicode symbology there. You take a look at your stats now that you've thought about it.

“Metal? Does that mean Koromon aren't supposed to be metal?” You zip around him with your strong little legs, sniffing keenly and indeed realizing that he's got a “metallic” smell. Upon close inspection his yellow eyes even hide a gear pattern.

“Pretty much!” Koromon smiles, his teeth grinning across his entire body. “It looks like I kept my Metal Empire Digisoul on reincarnation. Yggdrasil really put in a lot of upgrades with the system transfer and update.”

“Yggdrasil? System transfer? Update?” You blink, sitting on all of what might account for haunches with your stubby little legs.

Silver blinks, “Are. You. Serious?” He shakes his head, “You're new but I can't believe you're THIS new. Okay, look. Yggdrasil is the operating thingy that keeps everything going. It makes sure that there's a world to live on and that digimon keep getting reincarnated when a stronger one eats a weaker one. We recently had a system transfer which means that the slates wiped clean and its a new world frontier with secrets no one's discovered, no royal knights until someone is worthy of the title, and... where did you even get that?”

You're sitting on your haunches with tiny glasses and a pen with a notepad scribbling down things to remember. Now that he mentions it, you're not sure where you pulled it out from either.

As the black cat thing sees you, her lips fold into a purring smile, “Oh, the newbie and...” Her eyes fall upon Silver, “A... metalsukamon?”

Silver's jaw grows and he gnashes his teeth with a twitch in his eye, “Metalkoromon! Not sukamon!”

“Whatever.”

“Noire, I swear.” The other cat thing puts a paw on the black one's head only to be swat at.

“Bug off!” She looks to you with a seductive gleam in her eye, “Heyyy, did you know that you carry an X-Antibody little Dorimon?”

“I... Uh... Uh...” You sweat, suddenly feeling enticed to answer her questions with that flirty stare.

You divert your attention from the rookie seductress and focus instead on Blanche. With a big cheeky grin you yell, “Blanche, you're looking really cute!”

The White cat-dog thing blushes, putting up a paw as if to say “No... really?”

“What about-?” Noire starts to purr as you're already dashing away, “! Hey who do you think you're ignoring?!”

Silver's right after you, chuckling all the way. Bouncing backwards, he snaps forward again and doubles his speed, “Aw man! She's gunning for us! Cheese it man! Cheese it!”

You run as fast as your little legs will carry, actually pushing you quite a bit faster than you'd thought as you hit top speed as you race around the track. Incidentally, Noire's pursuit makes it so that the three of you are all pulling laps around the track while Blanche yawns and goes back to the blackboard to be taught by the red beetle digimon.

Turns out disregarding female... can indeed acquire gains.

In passing, you even see Blanche sit at the side during her breaktime munching on a digishroom.

“No really! You're pretty! Silver, don't even! You're the most beautfil Digimon I've ever seen! Your coat is like dark velvet and your eyes are like rubies and-” You glance back and see that she's started to trot with a significantly “Nicer” demeanor as hearts spring from her head.

“D'awww you're just saying that!” She laughs, though it sounds a lot more like some kind of cackle.

By the time you fall flat on your face, Noire paws your fur playfully for a bit while Silver bounces around blowing raspberries at the rookie digimon.

Blanche trots by and looks at Noire, “Come on, we should head out. Training here won't do us as much good anymore, and I'm still gonna keep an eye on you.”

“Right, right, whatever.” Noire prances away with Blanche, “I'll see you later you twerpy little X-body! Ta!”

Huffing and panting, you only know the void that is your stomach right now...

Palmon's garden, and make a roll for convincing her you need an extra amount of meat, after all bigger digimon have greater weight requirements for evolution

You follow Silver and the two of you end up at “Palmon's garden.” It's situated away a distance from the gym, and besides the meat field, there's also a house that it seems like all the caretakers rest in when they're not on duty.

There at the fields you see a a green plant monster with a fragrant flower on its head. Silver hops ahead as Palmon extends her claws(fingers?) through the soil to turn a part of the field for the next crop.

“Palmon, Palmon! I'm hungry!” Silver jumps up and down and you get caught up in jumping with him, opening your mouth wide for food.

“Oh you little guys. Silver, is that you? You've already gotten so much bigger.” She giggles at the antics of you and your first friend. Swinging out her vines, she ranks out two ripe pieces of meat that are dripping with juicy freshness. Throwing it into the air, Silver bounces high and catches it in his mouth.
Looking at you and your fast little legs, she tosses it long for you to fetch it.

Already revved up, you're gunning for the flying meat, ready to intercept when your little leg hits something and you go tumbling out of control. Eyes spinning, you get up to see a stinky looking plant monster munching on your meat, looking you in the eye as it does so.

“Veggiemon! I told you to stay...” Palmon strips her body of texture, uh oh. “Out!” Her polygon framework rapidly reform with an explosion of data. As the textures reattach themselves, she appears as a cute humanoid girl with a lily on her head an leafs for wings. Bringing her hands together she says, “Of my garden!” As they transform into a larger flower that blooms with a cannon at its core. “Flower Cannon!”

Veggiemon scrambles to get away, but it's too late as the incandescent green light explodes from the cannon, knocking him straight out of that form until he's fleeing as a smaller digimon with a flower for its head and hands.

The texture's stripped again as Palmon returns to her more basic form and throws you another hunk of meat.

You sit there, awestruck with the meat hanging out of your mouth as you realize that it'd be best to never piss her off.

“You need to be a plant-type for that at the very least hun'. Don't you worry, you'll get big and strong like in your own way.”

“I'm gonna be the STROOONGEST!” Silver smiles, his metal teeth grinning bright. Palmon pats him on the head with her claws.

“Speaking of getting strong...” You wink at palmon, blowing steam out of your nose with how hot stuff you think you are. “I'm gonna be the strongest there is to protect everyone... Especially this farm.”

The plant digimon puts a claw up to her mouth to hide her continuing giggles as well as a little blush.

“I'm gonna need more of that delicious meat to make good on that promise, but I'll protect ya babe.”

“Oh, you...” She snickers into a hand as she whips another hunk of meat out of the ground and tosses it to you, “Stop that... Just eat and stop that...” She keeps giggling, obviously rather amused.

“Stopping just isn't in my vocabulary.” You say with another wink as you swallow the meat bone and all, feeling satiated at last.

“That's right! You trip over something and just keep rolling!” Silver snarks as he bounces back to the field. “Gotta keep training bye!”

As Silver leaves, Palmon makes sure he's gone before getting a bit closer, “So, this might help you out a bit. There haven't been many Dorimon, but I've seen enough train to guess their evolutions...

Pumped about your path, you head back to training and resolve to beef up your defense more and more until you're back on track to become a dorumon. Switching to a different form out of the blue just doesn't feel right to you as it is.

Silver's off smashing the punching bag with a red dinosaur monster. Wasn't that one's name Coral or something? He actually looks kind of savage as he strikes the regenerating bag.

Returning to the giant boxing glove, the pink thing with huge teeth smiles as you return, “Back for more eh? You have what it takes noobie?”

“Give me all you-” The fist sends you flying without warning, the little pink thing laughs out loud as you trot back up to “bat.”

“Sorry, this thing is just too much fun. I'm Mike, a Tokomon by the way. Not really interested in this whole fighting business so I train scrubs like you.”

“I'm” You brace yourself for the fist's sudden impact, deflecting it with your fur and sheer grit, “Dorimon! And I can take whatever you throw!”

You spend the next twelve hours getting beat to a pulp by the glove and alternating some other training routines while keeping your atk as your highest stat. Finally, you feel sleep about to take you as you hit your next digivolution. Texture stripped away, your polygon frame reforms into something a bit more suitable for working and fighting. With a gem in the middle of your forward, you unleash a loud ro- yawn as you drift off to sleep.

Look, I'm a CyberAgumon now!” He turns, holding out his claws, “Electroslash!” His claws buzz with electricity and extend, floating independently of his actual cybernetic hand. Connected only by electricity, he slashes through the air before his fingers reconnect.
“This is so cool! I was an Andromon before, but I think I'm gonna like being a greymon. I'll show that stupid baka-mon that fragged me who's boss...”

“That's neat...” You try your own move, calling out your attack subconsciously, “Metal cannon!” A metal sphere larger now than your head builds power before exploding out of your mouth with a thudding impact.

“Hey! No fighting!” The Red Beetle calls over from across the field.

“S-Sorry!” You call back.

Silver's false eye glimmers, “I want to fight. Gonna need to build up data to hit my next level. Wanna delete some scrubs? We can totally take them if we gang up on them.”

To get enough, you have to fight others and absorb the data they've accumulated.

You can either absorb them in full and digitama them or you can knock them down a stage and just absorb that.

Full absorption can also yield beneficial traits or the occasional nasty one.

Waving goodbye to Elecmon, the red caretaker informs the two of you that you're always welcome so long as you abide by the clause of no fighting in the daycare.

You're told of the different places just outside of the daycare...

Far to the north, there's a community forming with a few rookie and champion digimon. Could be worth checking out, though a valley and a mountain sits between you and that start-up city.

To the south, there are many forests leading to a lake and finally the coast.

To the east, there are more plains that stretch on for a few days along the coast.

To the west, the mountain range continues on and beyond there lies a desert.

You and Silver head down south, and the two of you talk on the way as the daycare fields end, starting up the forest. You see a little display in your village inform you that you're now in Optic Woods.

Along the way, Silver recounts the time that he was an andromon, a perfect stage digimon that's just about 100% cybernetic. He was deleted by a bigger fish, literally that brought water attacks to the table. Megaseadramon did him in when he least expected it.

“I lost a lot of data, but at the very least I kept my Metal soul. I can take this specialized agumon route now. Normall, a greymon would turn into a metalgreymon, but I'm not all that sure what I'll be. Speaking of which, that X-Antibody you've got is a rare trait.” Silver's eyes gleam with an almost envious look.

“Is it? I don't know, I just kind of came with it, ya know?”

“Yeah... “

“What does it do?”

“Well, it makes you stronger. More ferocious too actually. Kind of surprised that you're so calm. Wouldn't know you had it if it weren't just part of your species code.”

As the two of you are walking through the woods, the light changes as it filters through the canopy shedding a green atmosphere upon everything. Some damaged trees have shimmering wires exposed from within, beads of light rapidly flowing inside. The grasses themselves also shimmer with multiple colors.

Truly, this forest is so far gone from what you've always known from your time as a human. It's like a perfect cross between natural and cybernetic as everything is basked in the sun's electronic glow.

You and Silver walk into a clearing and he stops suddenly, looking around at the area. “Right here's about right.”

“About right for what?”

Just as you finish speaking you notice a little message noting that Party's broken, just as Silver turns to attack with a jumping “Electroclaw!”

And to counter, you uncurl it, smashing him away as he stumbles and rolls once before repositioning.

“I won't be that easy pal!” You shout out as you ready yourself for your first real battle. You notice that Silver, while ready to fight, is smiling wide.

“Taser Breath!” He builds a charge in his mechanical jaw before releasing a crackling static bolt that you have more than enough time to run past.

Yeah, his only good attribute seems to be his Attack, which is admittedly quite high, but everything else is crap.

Keeping yourself at a distance to avoid any melee you, wait out his attacks with enough time to react to any one of them. Whenever he nears, you keenly keep up the same distance.

He starts to outright bolt for you after seeming to think for a moment, forcing you to run and evade, dipping around trees near the outskirt of the clearing and returning even if only to keep an eye on him.

If this were any good ol' rpg then... MP would stand for mana. If you waited that out... But wait... H used two attacks in succession and that “Minimissile” tech is his only other ranged move... If that's so...

He's already out of MP! Silver comes out of the bushes, tripping over an exposed treecable. He's vulnerable!

His type should know that defense and intellect usually win out against brute force methods.” A familiar voice calls out from the brush as Noire walks on in, flicking one of her floppy ears into the air as her red eyes gleam like rubies, “Silver, I told you that you were a metalsukamon, didn't I?”

“Say, Dorimon... Why don't you leave this little brat to me? I'll digitama him for you, put him back another day or so...” Noire purrs. Silver backs away, shaking against a tree.

If he's going to be any use to us we need to feed him other mon. And if we're not a party that makes it quicker for him to get back to rookie/child stage.

Start questioning his strength. What IF he'd gotten that opening attack? What could he contribute in a fight, and what can he contribute now?

Start probing for what skills he's got outside of raw stats, and encourage him to focus on those to keep up with us.

You let the notice linger as the two of you make your way further south through the woods. The path through eventually gets less traveled and you're forced to walk through brush instead as you pick the occasional mushroom out of curiosity.

You quiz silver about his skills, anything that he's particularly good at outside of combat.

“You're gonna laugh.” He says, hopping extremely slowly through the thicket, making sure to land as close to your footsteps as possible.

“No I'm not.” You say in return.

“Well... I was an andromon at one point. I'm actually supposed to be a city planner. Had trained my Int up and had above average Atk stats and all until... Well, you know. A dickhead Megaseadramon killed me.”

“Is that related to the city getting set up in the north?”

Silver's mouth goes sideways as he tries to think, “Can't quite remember. Pretty sure it was over the BLUE Ocean though. This continent has Daycare Lambda. I remember at least that the city wasn't near there. Since we're just after a server transfer, some people that just want to settle down are making towns. If you wanted to try that -and you promise to frag that megaseadramon- I'll start upping my int for ya pal. Then again, it might just be easier to join a group that's already starting up... And we'll want to get further from Daycare Lambda.”

“Why do we need to get further from the daycare? It's basically a spawn point for babies, right?”

“Right. But if we need to off someone, it'd be easy for them to sneak in with a different form and gank people or sab our network. Cities are a real investment to prosper and there's a lot of data and resources to be had by pillaging one too.”

I actually meant stuff like feints, using the environment to fight, scanning/exploiting weaknesses, and working as a team, but citybuilding is nice too.

Something occurs to you in your time and knowledge of playing MMO's. You hit cancel on the party request and imagine hitting “Enter” To bring up a chatbox. Surprisingly, it works! You type in /Pinvite Silver and imagine hitting enter again. In short order, Silver's HP and MP pop up in your peripheral vision for a moment before fading to the background.
You see what you'd kind of expected to see, a little mark that looks like a pair of goggles around an blank portrait with your name... which is just your species, “Dorumon.”

Mentally clicking it, a dropdown menu associated with spoils distribution appears. You see that you can control the slider to allocate exp and loot equally or lean it selfishly or generously. There's even an icon that indicates a “Mentor” mode. Likely for higher stages training rookies or something.

“Aw man! You're the best! You had me worried for a second, but you're the best man!” Silver starts hyping up your decision, really grateful that you've decided not to throw him off here.

“We're gonna get you a kill or something... I'd really like it to be a bul-”

“Help!” You hear a cry from the distance and a pink thing comes dashing through the grass. Upon seeing you lurking in the bushes, it grinds to a halt panting as its eyes go wide. It looks back considering its actions and then falls to its knees. Almost the size of Silver in his current state, it's not really far.
“D-Don't hurt me, please! They'sa stalk'n me man. They'sa stalk'n me... I'll do ya a favor or sumthin. Just. Tell 'em I didn't go no way I didn' go or someth'n ya know boss? Aw man...”

Giving the little mouse thing a skeptical look, especially with its broken accent, you say,” Wait, hold up. I'm not agreeing to anything unless you-”

“Chuumon~ Kitty's looking for you~” A familiar voice sings from afar.

Silver jumps on your head, using his metal tendril(ears?) to hold himself in place. “Dorumon! That's a rookie, Chuumon! He's a virus type and maybe not the best to eat, but I could go up a stage from that!”

“Cripes, you guys too?!” The Pink thing darts away, a pink flash without waiting for an answer.
